I see what you mean and I agree with you at some level, but I think the point of him getting the cuts on his face was more for us to think about the blood thinners at all times, so they didn't think about committing to the possibility of facial scars, but I also think at some level the choice to just make them vanish was more about not forcing Oliver to forever have to sit in makeup for a few hours to give him scars every day, I think it was more of a matter of convenience. But it would be interesting, it is a bit of a pet peeve of mine the way characters never scar, like, Buck would have some of them for sure, and this could be interesting if they went for it.

#on a im definitely projecting here note tho #as someone who has a scar on their face #i admit it is not nearly as visible now as it was when i was a teenager and im good distracting people from it since i had it since i was 5 #its not a dramatic thing i just had stitches near my eye and it left a scar #i got used to people telling me to cover it up and a dermatologist once told me we could fill it up if i wanted to make 'go away'#if a project needed me to put new scars on my face every day for who knows how long i don't think i would handle that very well #and considering the way that earlier projects Oliver worked had him cover his birthmark it could be a sensitive topic for him too #but this is absolutely me projecting #maybe hes absolutely fine and it was just inconvenient #but that was actually my first thought at the idea of Buck keeping the scars so I'm sharing it #i really need a tag for asks #anon 😌

anyway I think zedaph’s like. plotline. character arc whatever is so funny to me. This man shows up to hermitcraft after being in a singleplayer world for 100 episodes and the first thing he does is turn around and build a hole in the ground and not talk to hardly anyone. And the second thing he does is trap the door. Excellent. So then he spends a season or two being a genius and inventing new mental illnesses for his viewers to have and etc etc. Dresses up for Halloween as the embodiment of death and goes up to people and asks them to die. Like. Normal things. He builds another hole in the ground and builds a complicated redstone device that can tell the time for him so he doesn’t have to go outside. And of course he traps the door again. Then in season eight he decides you know what I’m going to start regularly interacting with people other than my two (2) close friends. And you know how I’m going to do it. I’m going to put them in a box and psychologically evaluate them. Awesome. Wonderful. We love to see it. You know what that is? Growth. And so now we’re at season nine and he’s pretty regularly teaming up with the others and being silly and everything. And you know like trying to spy on them without them noticing and normal stuff like that. But at the end of the day he still lives in a hole

Simon would be the best person in your corner going through a depressive episode. He gets it, he's not going to push you to be happy, he's going to let you be abrasive and cagey. He'll leave you in your little nest and tidy around you making the space clear and clean to help a bit. He'll do laundry because he knows it's an insurmountable task to you. He'll take out all the steps of a shower that make it seem difficult, like all you need to do is stand there and he will do the rest. He'll dry you off and blow dry your hair and put it in braids so it's out of your way. He'll make sure you eat good food and let you help cook in the ways you can even if all you can manage is grating cheese.

If you are willing to speak to the doctor he handles that too, making the appointment taking you there and back. He'll offer to speak to your boss if you can't right now to get you some time off.

Like he never makes your lack of energy a problem, he just works with it and keeps you in a safe and clean environment because he knows that will help. He doesn't coo and celebrate when you walk into the bedroom to help him put on the clean bedsheets even though it is a big step because he knows it'll only make you feel babied, he just gets on with it.

You'd never feel like this is your fault with Simon. And whenever the time comes you will be there for him when he goes through the same.

most of you will not understand the agony of this outfit. but hey here's fantasy au Howdy!

rambles:

yes. i know. he looks like a gunslinger. but I think it'd be funny if Howdy shows up and he minorly tweaks the genre simply by Existing! plus, he has to make himself useful beyond being a traveling salesman - he doesn't have a scrap of magic in him! so! alchemist gunslinger!

due to much of this "final" outfit design being Miguel's (@indigopoptart <3 thanks for your help homeslice <3) influence, i have less to say than usual! i'll talk about the things i Kept from the first terrible, terrible draft!

i wanted him to have full-coverage gloves because One, gloves fuck, & Two, shooting gloves! plus, he regularly works with dangerous materials! gotta keep his hands as safe as possible! speaking of his guns, they were a Ton of fun to draw. i wanted to make them ornate... Howdy seems like he'd enjoy nice things? fancy stuff perhaps? anyway the guns have his tavern "logo" on them!

the "second safety" mentioned triggers a magic-oriented mechanism that allows him to piece the guns together! they "unfold" into a big ol clusterfuck of a powerhouse weapon! unfortunately, using this immediately breaks the guns and they have to be repaired, so it's a "break glass in case of emergency" ace up the Neighborhood's sleeve!

i like to imagine that his bandolier, while cool, stresses everyone out a little bit. each bullet is full of pressurized weaponized magic. If they break while on the bandolier, well! Howdy would probably be very much Royally Fucked! i also drew the bullets too large here, so imagine that there's a lot more than shown and they're a lot smaller. I didn't realize this mistake until right now! oopsies!

i want to keep elements of the canon outfits in these fantasy ones. hence why his vest is striped and blue, he's still got the reddish brown pants, and! why his cloak clasp is shaped like a tie! and why the inside of his cloak resembles his apron!

i like to think that Howdy got his magic pack by swindling some poor soul out of it! when the buckles are undone, it unfolds into a vendor stand that looks Much different than the tiny scribble provided! said scribble is there to ah... what's the word. Demonstrate? get the point across? it's actually quite a nice stall! he has space to sell, and a workbench to tinker on! the pockets on the bag actually do function as pockets, though.
