Thinking about the Blackthorn Siblings as one does

No but really

Just thinking about the Blackthorn sisters and how Helen is to Dru as Julian is to Tavvy.

Let me explain:

1) Same age difference (about 10 yrs between Julian+Tavvy, about 10 yrs between Helen+Dru)

2) Tavvy is Julian’s baby, just like I think Dru was Helens’. We know Helen was parentified at a young age as well. Dru was the baby of the family for almost 6 yrs till Tavvy was born. Of course for a while Eleanor was still alive, but being the oldest Helen still would’ve stepped up especially as Eleanor was getting sicker in the years before Tavvy was born and she died. (Although now that I’m thinking about it Mama Blackthorn couldn’t have been that sick if she was still able to have a full pregnancy with Tavvy right (?!)) (And who knows what Andrew was doing but not being a super present father and running the institute ig— tho his teen son was able to do both smh)

3) but anyways yes Helen and Dru. Helen was Dru’s go to for stories and comfort when she was little. Oftentimes little Dru wouldn’t be able to keep up when the twins + Jules+Emma went exploring, but she would stay back with Helen.

4) in addition Julian and Helen are both the main (or one of the main for helen’s case) parents in Tavvy + Dru’s lives during the same time in both their lives. Dru and Tavvy were both about 2-7/8 and Helen and Julian were both 12-17/18.

5) Which is what makes Helen’s exile and return and Dru’s reaction to it (though understandable) more tragic. Bc Dru was Helen’s baby, and at one point Helen was Dru’s main person. But now Helen is back, and while being Dru’s older sister/parent was such a big part of Helen’s identity for so long and she remembers it well, Dru’s memories of Helen are now more distant childhood memories :((

This parallels Julian + Tavvy’s relationship a bit as well (though they are not as extreme bc ofc Julian will check in often and come back to stay in LA a lot) but Julian will no longer be Tavvy’s main parent. And in time although being Tavvy’s parent was such a big part of Julian’s identity it will be more distant childhood memories for tavvy :((

6) the parallels!! Like how Dru is said to be the one who looks most like their mother but Dru barely knew her while Helen was the closest to their mom. (We learn most that we do about Eleanor from Helen’s pov) So Helen (+Emma) are the closest to maternal figures that Dru has ever gotten.

Similarly Julian is always compared to looking like Andrew, and he had to kill his own father (most of what we learn about Andrew as a parent is from Julian). But Tavvy doesn’t remember Andrew, and Julian is the best father figure he could have.

7. Finally, the way Julian + Helen switch off in their little siblings lives. Helen was one of Dru’s main parents till she was about 7/8, then Helen is exiled and Julian is Dru’s main parent from 8-13 (close to when Dru is ready to go to the academy). Where as Tavvy is the exact opposite since Julian was his main parent till he was about 7/8 and then Helen is taking over as Tavvy’s main parent from when Tavvy is 8 till presumably when he follows in Dru’s footsteps and goes to the Academy (15ish—till he’s sent back to LA bc of the pandemic lmao)

So Dru + Tavvy had the same parents just 6 yrs apart

Helen + Mark: Eleanor + Andrew (+nerissa when they were babies but don’t rly remember)

Julian: 10 yrs Eleanor + Andrew, 2 yrs Helen + Mark + then himself :(

Dru + Tavvy: Helen + Julian

Literally all of The Shadowhunter Chronicle romances are completely unhinged it’s not even funny (I lied, it’s very funny). Here’s just some examples:

Simon Lovelace + Isabelle Lightwood: It makes sense to have our engagement party on the day of my brother’s death, that’s when we really started bonding.

Helen “Alessa” Blackthorn + Aline Penhallow: Well, I guess we’re going to go in exile together. Yes, I said together; your exile is my exile, what’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine, that’s how relationships work.

Julian Blackthorn + Emma Carstairs: Yes, it’s a technical war crime to love each other, but the law itself is not really our main concern about it.

Kieran Hunter + Mark “Miach” Blackthorn + Cristina Rosales: We’re really living that cottage core aesthetic, and all we had to do to get here was do a small war and some amnesia. Worth it.

Gwyn ap Nudd + Diana Wrayburn: I’m going to stand by just in case something happens, but it probably won’t, she knows what she’s doing – WHY IS SHE JUMPING OUT THE TENTH STORY WINDOW OH MY GOD WAIT

Tiberius “Ty” Blackthorn + Christopher “Kit” Herondale: We take cosplaying Sherlock and Watson VERY seriously, so of course we needed to go to all the most illegal places, it’s only natural.

Ash Morgenstern + Drusilla “Dru” Blackthorn: So anyway I saw them in a sort of fever dream like state this one time and they’ve still been on my mind for years.

I saw one of your posts mentioning the parallels between Julian and Dru. Can you dive a little deeper into that or explain it more? It sounds really interesting 😎

of course! sorry this is a little all over the place 😅 it's kinda just all my thoughts plastered together

anyway the thing that began this train of thought was that Mark calls Julian "his dreamer" in TFTSA, and "the dreamer" is also the moniker that Julian gives Dru in LM. everything kinda spirals from there as more parallels occured to me as I thought about it more.

Julian is mistaken multiple times for Andrew; Dru is said to look the most like Eleanor. They're both extremely good liars. The first person they ever killed (at 12/13) was already dead but not quite. They both felt the pressure of having to grow up too fast. Julian is an artist & both Helen and Mark bring up how Dru loved bright colours when she was younger. also like. "you're the heart of the family, baby girl. I promise you. you're our heart." and Julian entire arc in TDA being remembering he has his own and that it's worth something.

another thing that struck me a lot was how Julian used to look after Tavvy after their mom died. not his physical needs, Helen covered those, but he watched over him and played in the same room as him because someone had to. Emma says that's where it all started with Julian & how he holds everything and everyone together. and when their dad dies and Helen & Mark are gone, Dru takes that over from him. Tavvy's almost always with Dru in TDA, and while that's because she's often paired off with him it comes from an underlying assumption that you can rely on Dru to always have Tavvy. and I can't see how that would happen given that Dru is the second youngest unless she, like Julian, did what someone had to. which ties into how her updated flower card is "with me you are safe"

they both need friends a little more than their siblings too imo. like Dru's arc in TDA around Jaime and how she just really badly wants a friend and Julian and his Emma (to quote Mark again lol) well before romance came into the picture. their mutual desire for someone that none of their siblings have because they have each other. Helen & Mark. Livvy & Ty. Julian and Dru are the odd men out. even when Mark & Julian and Ty & Dru do get closer it hinges out the fact Helen is exiled and Livvy is dead. it's no one fault but an impassable divide exists between them anyway.

a more vaguely I think about how Julian's bedroom walls are dedicated to a giant gloomy mural of Sleeping Beauty and Dru's is a shrine to horror and terror. like what's the difference between dreams and nightmares anyway.

I have a very particular head canon that all the blackthorns are tall, they all just give tall energy. I should also quickly note this is mostly based on like, how tall they’ll be once they stop growing 😭😭

Helen: Idk how her height is described in the books but she has always seemed tall to me, like around 5’10 AT LEAST.

Julian: IK Cassie has some bias against making any of the guys in her book above 5:11 (shout out James, Shout out Thomas u made it out of the trenches) But I imagine Julian being 6’2 6’3… something about him….

Mark: Falling back onto Cassie’s curse I can see him being a reasonable 5’10-6’. He’s meant to be around the same height as Julian IK that but idk… he gives 5’10 energy, him and Simon need to unite as 5’10 bros

Livvy: okay I don’t really imagine as THAT tall, I can see 5’7, I feel like that’s tall but not tooooo tall. She gives off 5’7 vibes.

Ty: he has to be freakishly tall like Jules, he gives off tall and lanky vibes. He’s defffff 6’ and above!!!

Dru: She has to be somewhere between 5’7-5’9. She’s always described as tall, so personally I can imagine her being tall.

Emma: I saw someone do some weird maths calculations about the respective heights of the TDA characters, and they said Emma would have been 5’6 which honestly is what I see. I can also see 5’7, I feel like she wouldn’t be short but I don’t imagine her being very tall!!!

BTW this is fun and probably doesn’t correlate with canon, but I just imagine there all tall freaks and they tower over everyone !!!

shadowhunter chronicles characters and whether i think they would be swifties, a post: (obviously i am excluding all characters who are from the past and died before taylor swift even existed because frankly i don't care to debate whether mattew fairchild would be a swiftie. he's dead <3 peace and love)

clary- not at all. she listens to freak weirdo music. also she stopped keeping tabs on pop culture in 2008 so what would she even know about taylor swift unless one of her shadowhunter friends makes her listen to her. i think it's possible that in like 2014 she heard a 1989 song and loved it but didn't find out it was taylor swift until 6 months later when simon had to inform her

simon- again, weirdo freak music. he'd be the guy who only starts liking her because of folklore but unfortunately cassanda's timeline only goes to like, 2013 rn and will only go to 2015 for twp so. we'll never see that. i think he has nothing against her music because he is a Music Appreciator but he is probably a huge asshole about her as a person becuase he has a haters soul <3

jace- well i don't think jace listens to modern music <3 however i think in his post 2008 life he has more appreciation for human world art and he would eventually come across a vinyl of red or something (he's totally the type of annoying to have a record player do not dispute me on this) and i think from there he would like her, this is how clary is introduced to her music btw

alec- i literally don't think alec listens to music. other people listen to music around him, and he does NOT have a haters soul so he is NOT an asshole about any of said music.

izzy- yeah <3 and i think her and simon have had fights about it <3 it's not that deep to her though she only fights with him about taylor swift for fun and then they have crazy sex

magnus- well yeah. of course. he would love how swifties behave like a cult he would think that's soooo funny... he would love the glamour he would love her showmanship he would go to all her tours and have the time of his life. duh.

emma- yeah why not... she's a girls girl and she has an obsession with being just like jace. she is listening to taylor swift...

jules- he is listening to taylor swift with his beautiful girlfriend...

dru- dru is crucially a weirdo freak emo girl, i just know that when she puts on music it is an assult on the ears and no one likes it and ty wants to kill her about it. and also at the same time emma is functionally her big sister she looks up to and therefore she must appreciate taylor on emma's behalf

cristina- no because she's not american she doesn't have to give a shit about taylor swift

mark- if you asked mark blackthorn what his favorite song was he'd say some bullshit like "the sound of the river flowing at sunrise when the birds are chirping" so. like yeah he'd mostly be saying that just to fuck with you but goddamn that is annoying. anyway

helen- she's a gaylor. to ME

aline- the wife of a gaylor. but she thinks shake it off is the most annoying fucking song she has ever heard in her life <3

livvy- much like dru, she has to defer to emma with this, so yes she likes taylor swift, however i know in my heart of hearts that livvy is a pop music girlie and the fact that taylor was mostly country pre-livvy dying would piss her off soooo bad. she'd have to find put about 1989 from kit it would be a whole thing she'd make ty play it for her because she's a ghost who only has two friends it's terrible...

ty- it's complex. no. but also yes. but also crucially no. but yes. don't worry about it.

tessa- tessa would love ipods i know she does... girl from the victorian era living to the invention of the ipod touch.... dude. do i think she's listening to taylor on her ipod? maybe a little. but i think magnus probably made her a playlist of all the greatest songs from the last several decades that she missed while in the spiral labyrinth and she is just trying to catch up in her free time... obviously all too well is on that playlist though.

jem- man i just think he's thrilled to be alive. i think that guy likes everything, especially if tessa likes it. guy who is constantly overcome with the beauty of life fr

kit- i think he would make fun of jace for liking red so much and then he'd go home and listen to it and cry. he pretends to have the haters soul for clout but he doesn't and he never will and it makes him look fucking pathetic <3

Okay so I'm about to be real annoying about autism and biology(specifically genetics) real quick-

So first off, just because Ty has autism doesn't necessarily mean that Livvy does. Yes they are twins but they are fraternal twins, ie two eggs and two sperm, which means they only share about 50% of their DNA like regular siblings. Because that's what they are canonically, regular siblings who just so happened to both be conceived in a roughly 2 week window of each other and born at the same time.

Same with Mark and Helen. Only they share about 25% of their DNA with the other Blackthorn siblings.

Now autism is genetic, this is scientifically proven to be true, and as of 2023 1 out of 100 children has autism. Those chances increase if a sibling or a parent has autism because they share genes, and if one person has the gene then it's likely to assume that someone else in the family does as well.

Take my family as an example: my grandfather is autistic, so was his brother, and his sister's daughters(identical twins) were both autistic(because they share 100% DNA so if one is autistic likely the other is too), and so were their kids. So even though my great aunt is NOT autistic, both her brothers are, which meant she carried the gene for it, and it passed down to her kids and grandkids. Now none of my grandfather's kids got the gene, but all of us grandkids did. Because even though our moms weren't autistic, they carried the gene.

Now, there's not too much proven scientific evidence for how autism works genetically other than it is passed down and can even skip a generation or two. But because of how society is, especially how afab people are raised in society, there could genuinely be a significant amount of people who just haven't realized that they are autistic, not to mention the over a million people who aren't able to get a diagnosis. So please take what I've said above with a grain of salt.

NOW onto my personal headcanons with the Blackthorns-

I truly believe that Lucie Herondale is autistic and I will die on this hill. Which means that the gene could carry all the way down the Blackthorn line, all the way to present day. And since we know almost nothing about Andrew and Eleanor, we don't know if either one of them had the traits or if they just carried the gene.

Let's start with the oldest(s) and work our way down, shall we:

Mark: the nature audhd, he loves everything plants earth related and spend almost too much times researching flowers and berries that can be grown in California. He much prefers a date to the botanical gardens rather than to a movie theater(too loud) or a library(too quiet). But he loves concerts(jumping up and down bass boosted music).

Helen: the coffee autistic, she loves everything in the world of coffee, and if she wasn't so debilitated by her enhanced hearing making her uneasy out in public she would open her own coffee shop just so she could make coffees all day everyday. Aline gifts her different coffee scented candles for anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays.

Julian: the art autistic, he loves the feeling of paint on his fingers, and has spent an hour rubbing a new and soft brush over his palms and face(much to Emma's amusement). His go-to stimming behavior is sketching something either on scrap paper or with his fingers on the table or on his thigh. He loves drawing over his arms and hands with pen, and he also loves drawing all over his families' hands and arms as well.

(Ty is canon, so I'll skip him)

Livvy: the theater audhd kid, she loves reading Shakespeare and obscure off-Broadway plays. Once a week she puts on a one woman show for her siblings(mostly Dru and Tavvy) entertainment. She collects playbills, cds, records, merch, and autographs from shows she sees(she goes with Jocelyn or Tessa at least once a week) and covers her room with them.

Dru: the thriller audhd, she loves everything that gives her a fright and makes her adrenaline and blood pressure skyrocket. Her favorite "dates" are amusement parks with Thaís and Jaime, she makes them go on every terrifying ride. She, Livvy, and Emma have movie nights where they binge vintage horror movies and play indie horror games. She went bungee jumping for her 18th birthday.

Tavvy: the music autistic, he loves everything in the music realm: instruments, songs on the radio, Broadway musicals, and Julian humming while he cooks. He learns to play over 16 different instruments and uses each one to stim depending on what environment he's in(if he's at Cirenworth then it's violin or piano, but if he's at the NYC Institute then it's drums or guitar, his favorite is playing the pan flute on the LA Institute rooftop with Mark and Kieran).

I also hc that Livvy is trans that her and Ty ARE actually identical but apparently it's weird to say that😒

dude. this is such a detailed ask. shaking screaming silently in excitement that i get to answer this!! all of this detail for me!! this is such a fascination of mine! anyway ANYWAY SO

I love your hc's about the blackthorns especially tavvy, idk why i see him as a musician as well but it just FITS. and hey, they are in LA right?? he def spends his teens sneaking out to see live music and he def gets SUPER into like a handful of artists and spends hours just playing around with their songs, remixing them or whatever (do i do this? am i talking from experience? do i have a sideblog dedicated to it?) and dru is absolutely that kind of adrenaline junkie. so am i! i say she gets really into lead climbing (rock climbing, but the rope is below you instead of above and when you fall it's TERRIFYING) and it helps her get really comfortable with her body esp when she goes with mundanes and downworlders and shadowhunters all mixed up. and i love theatre livvy, i really do, but her canon thing is computers and maths isn't it? maybe she's both. i can see that, different sides of her personality: she's into STEM a lot as a kid but realises she also likes to act when she's a bit older. you're dead right with julian, tbh what he was going through in the tda era makes it hard for me to see his neurodivergence clearly but yeah i can see it, and he's a cassandra clare male protagonist after all, he's gonna remind me of a bunch of people i know irl who are--slowly realising their neurodivergence, shall i say. mark and helen are dead right too. i see it. never did they come across as neurotypical to me.

and i do know, genetics of fraternal twins--if you're referring to the 'twin thing' or whatever i said i was meaning the bond between them and how they communicate so naturally! which is in part due to their proximity being together since the womb, but also because they are naturally so similar and also complimentary and actually, the fact that they both 'adopt' kit into their group is just another neurodivergents unite moment. like, it just works. so naturally.

and i 100% agree with you that yeah, sure maybe they're not ALL autistic in the family but with underdiagnosis and stuff and genetics it does make sense. Also irl i do think that 1% is a MASSIVE understatement (idk what the actual number could be, but the way i go out in public and in community with people i've known for years even when we're not brought together by things in common, and i just get the vibe of people, i'm pretty sure a lot more than 1% are autistic). now, with lucie. i never was quite sure with her, she's very much a could-never-have-been-neurotypical-herondale but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. it's really interesting to see her and james interact as siblings bc they're SO different but there's this common thread of likely being autistic, in fact a specific genre of autistic that clearly runs in their family (and i could say the same of anna and christopher, but that's for another post). anyway. just for fun. I reckon we can trace it back up both sides of their family to Linette Owens on the Herondale side and to Aloysius Starkweather on Tessa's side. and cassie invented genetics again.

but seriously, i fondly summarise tlh as 'bunch of neurodivergents adopt biracial traveller who doesn't fit in anywhere'. like SO MUCH of the cast is autistic coded, trust cassie to do that, there's also a heap of rep of adhd and cptsd and bipolar in the mix and then. there's cordelia

I also have to say I do love your trans livvy hc!! the more i think about it the more i'm like, oh, that could make sense. in the way she presents her femininity (which trans women don't have to!! I know!) and imagine her bonding with diana over it! anyway that's all i have to say. slightly differently coloured features to ty--that's just a technicality right? no, this could definitely work.

I’ve decided to add to the noise with my own content because at this point I’ve seen Froy Gutierrez and Timothee Chalamet fancast for just about every single male TSC character and I think we all deserve some variety. since there’s no sobh entry today or ever again here’s a fun little list of my fav sobh entries ever!

coming up first we have the first Magnus to Alec letter. Listen this shit changed my life and was probably one of the highlights of my fall semester last year I’m not kidding it was that bad. Magnus and Alec made it better. that photo of them and the kids on vacation is my everything. Magnus calling Alec love. it’s everything. anyway we knew that was first

second we have the other Magnus to Alec letter. this one wasn’t hitting as much but it was still Magnus to Alec hence why it’s up at the top. it was still great. highlights include Magnus calling the kids m and r bc I think it’s cute, and Magnus calling Alec my love again. Also the entire last paragraph !

next is unobjectively the best sobh entry if we are not counting my extreme tmi gang bias. which is Livvy speaking to Julian!!!! I love the inflection the actress used and I think she encapsulated Livvy so so well and I LOVE IT. Kitty angst I am here for it. this was so gearing up for what the wicked powers will be. too bad it’s a decade away. anyway this entry slayed the house down!!!! ty needs kit.

next was a super fun surprise and def one of my favs : emma and Julian visiting the tmi gang in nyc!!! even tho it freaked me out because I am so scared of Janus I got to see my BEST FRIENDS jace clary and Alec <3 Simon and Isabelle could’ve been included but I’ll take what I can get. they ordered pizza my favs for that I love my tmi gang takeout food fiends. yeah this was sm fun

Here’s a random one. TESSA TO MARYSE. this was a banger. I love it. I remember reading it and this was like over a year ago but I was so in shock but so thrilled. Like it’s just random but fun for hearing about kit and Jace and the lightwood fam is my fav obviously. and that cute pic of Jace clary kit and mina!!!

next we have the kit to ty letter that kit burned. sad but good and also just interesting with its connections to james my best friend James Herondale. it’ll be interesting (?) to see what ends up happening with the gun in both chain of thorns and the wicked powers. cool stuff

also ash to Janus. Janus scares me because he very much threatens my fav but also Janus being a threat means tmi gang content right. I mean that makes sense to me I’ll take what I can get! Also I love ash so. I’m excited to see him more

Helen to Julian. this was cute. i love Helen and i love that pic of tavvy and I love them worrying about ty aw. yay blackthorn siblings sometimes I forget that I love them

Thinking about Helen Penhallow Blackthorn as one does

Thinking about how I’m sure she wanted to be reunited with her family and would do anything to maintain that after being able to return from Wrangel Island

But also thinking about how maybe she didn’t really want to start running an institute as soon as she was free or maybe she did but she didn’t have much freedom to explore the world and what she wanted to do in between starting her travel year at 18 and then being sent to Wrangel Island later that same year

Thinking about how Helen must feel incredible guilt after finding out that her little brother she left when he was 12 and playing with wax was holding the family together and running the institute by himself

Thinking about how Helen and Mark were only two years apart and the closest to each other growing up but after what they both went through and now that they’re living on different coasts as well their relationship will never be what it was. Thinking about how now Mark is closer with Julian and Emma now.

Thinking about how when Helen finally is able to return to her family they are all splitting off in different directions— Mark to the east coast/faerie, Julian with Emma on their travel year, and Ty to the scholomance.

Thinking about how Helen was never really able to explore or her faerie heritage

Thinking about how Helen still can’t fully be Dru’s sister as she is her sister and mother

Re-reading tales from the shadowhunter academy and oh my god mark and Kieran!!! But most importantly!! Kieran!!!! My little baby boy i love him so much!!!!!

Like if i could rate all characters i think it would be (and this is a v unpopular ranking i think btw):

1- all the malec family. Including the kids. They all take the first spot.

2- KIERAN MY BABY

3- Jace and Isabelle

4- lily (i just love her shes so fun!! And yet so complex, full of longing and tragedy and yet so much live and fire and a will of iron. So brave. So gay. My beautiful girl).

5- cristina my wild baby

6- mark! (He would be so much more up if i didnt get a little annoyed every time i think on how he manipulated kieran with his love while simultaneously persuing cristina as if kieran didn’t matter. Ik he made up for it, and i adore him, but i will always be a little annoyed at him).

7- emma and julian!!!!!!!!!!!

8- clary and simon!!! (I swear i do love them, they just tend to annoy me more than the rest lmaoo)

9- the other blackthorn kids!!! Altho i feel like once the last series is out Dru and Ty (and ash + kit) will all go up in the rankings tbh.

Everyone else regardless of how i love them doesn’t really call to me. Like these are all characters i would read books based on. Everyone else i wouldn’t read a story solemnly on them so no spot number 10. Maybe Helen and Aline take spot number 10 because i could read a story about them???? But I’m genuinely not too sure i would. I tend to like really angsty characters trying their best and i just feel like Helen and Aline tend to be written as very stable people shhdhn so i’m not too sure i would jump to read a story about them immediately as is out, but i would 100% read it with time.

I might as well also rank my fave ships tho:

2- KIERARKTINA MY LOVES EVERY DAY I PRAY FOR THEIR HAPPY ENDING

3- Sizzy tbh altho half their written time has been spent with me vocally threatening simon (me talking to the books) whenever he hurts izzy bc thats my baby angel girl

5- emma and julian!!!!!!! They could honestly go up jace and clary, is just that jace and clary have nostalgia on their side

6- Helen and Aline!!!!!!!

7- Jem and Tessa. I do waver sometimes because (VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION!!!) i didnt like the love triangle with will!!! Those books fill me with anxiety more than enjoyment lmao. I do prefer jem and tessa. I like the peaceful love they have so much more. I like the idea that the one you love gives you serenity and peace over the PASSION!!! ANGST!!! Tropes. BUT I understand the love triangle is complicated, that she loves them both equally but differently (or thats what Cassandra tries to write at the very least, didnt feel like that because she disregarded Jem’s pov but whATEVER). Nonetheless i do really love the jem and tessa dynamic. A love that waited thousands of years but never weakened or hesitated.

Again, i have the suspicion ty and kit will go up a lot in rankings once the books about them are out. I also have my eye on Dru and Jaime, but with the age difference i put a stop. I know the books coming up will have a time skip and Dru will be like 18 or close to it, but i hear people say her love interest might be ash and the idea of that actually calls my attention so much???? So they could potentially go up too. Although mostly I’m excited to see how the time skip changed the kierarktina dynamics (Hopefully they still see each other like montly at the cabin and are very domestic by now. Hopefully someone has given kieran a cat by the time skip). And how the time skip and made the lightwood-bane family grow🥹 (the kids hopefully will have more scenes on their own and with malec).

Kit's Diary

Chapter 9

Dear Ty,

yesterday I met up with Hazel. Since she decided I need more friends, she took me to where the "werewolf-squad", as she called it, was meeting. Apparently I was right with my suspicion. She is in fact a werewolf. There, she introduced me to her friends and her girlfriend Louise. One of them is actually in my German class. Her name is Maria and she's apparently a Shadowhunter too, though she made it very clear that she hates her "ass of a great uncle" aka Valentine Morgenstern. Also, she's from Germany and right now she's here for a student exchange to improve her English. And Louise is also her cousin.

Why do I know that, you might wonder. Well, Louise apparently felt bad, that she "stole" my girlfriend, even though I broke up with her, and thought, she could set me up with her cousin. So she told me all about her. But I quickly told her that my attraction goes elsewhere (to you and you only). And as it turns out, Maria is asexual and has very much no interest in boys.

After talking for a bit, they found out how I discovered that I was a Shadowhunter and that I stayed with your family. Because Louise apparently had a bit of a crush on both Emma and Julian, yep both, she wanted to know all about your siblings. So I told them about Helen and Aline, who lived on exile for years and couldn't meet up with their family, about Mark, who was part of the wild hunt and is now dating the Unseelie King and Cristina of course, about Julian and Emma, the former parabatai who fell in love with eachother and always stuck together, no matter what, about Dru, who loves horror movies and always seems to be forgotten, and about Tavvy, who is the youngest. And yes, I totally tried to avoid you, but the girls really seem better informed than I thought they were and quickly figured out that I might not have the best relationship with you. (By the angel, just writing that hurts.)

But instead of understanding and avoiding the topic though, the three of them really wanted to know everything about you and Livvy. I don't know how they convinced me, but somehow I ended up telling them everything what happened. I left the necromancy part and the First Heir part out obviously. And they concluded that I need to talk to you. No shit. I've come that far too. But there's no occasion, where I would see you and I don't think I'm ready to talk to you yet. So Hazel and Louise decided I should see a therapist. But Shadowhunters don't have therapists, as Maria informed them. The werewolf girls were very distraught by that information, but then suggested that I should see a downworlder therapist instead, since werewolves apparently DO have therapists, and made me promise to make an appointment with one. They gave me the information to some of them and threatened to involve Tessa and Jem if I don't go there. Well, okay then.

After convincing me to go to a therapist, they asked me about Tessa and Jem, so I told them all about them and Mina. Yes I told them all of what I know about their history, which is a lot. As it turns out, Tessa apparently told some author her story, so now there are books about my parents, which mundanes can read, too. Though I hope they think it's all fictional. It's called "The Infernal Devices" by the way. And then I told them about Mina and how cute she is.

Afterwards the girls invited me to a sleepover and told me that Maria will bring her brother, so that I won't be the only boy. So, we went to my house to ask Tessa and meet Mina. I had to promise Tessa that I won't get anyone pregnant, hence my outing I told you about yesterday. But after Maria told her that she will bring her brother, Tessa allowed me to spend the night at Hazel's. The girls played with Mina, while I got my stuff and then we went to get Maria's brother Henry, who looks like he could be Emma and Jules' child.

In Hazel's house we were greeted by her mother who made us some food from her home country. I don't know what it was, but it was very spicy. So spicy, in fact, that the Morgenstern siblings got very teary. But they succeeded in emptying the whole plate and we all laughed at the inability of Germans to eat spicy food. After dinner we set up mattresses in Hazel's room, which is pretty big, and watched a movie. The we went to sleep.

For breakfast, Hazel's dad made us the most stereotypical English breakfast with beans, ham, sausages and more. I was so full afterwards, I felt like I would turn into a ball and had to roll home.

There, I finished my homework and trained a bit with Jem until I sounded like the grandpa with asthma again (remember him?). And Jem suggested that it might be asthma and decided to schedule a doctors appointment for me. Apparently silent brothers aren't big experts on mundane diseases.

Now, I'm pretty tired and almost fell asleep several times while writing this. So I will go to bed now.

Chapter three: These invisible walls just couldn't keep us safe.

Dru picked at the skin surrounding her nails as she sat outside Ty's room. She wanted to give him and Kit the space to talk, but being away from her brother while he was like this made her feel horribly anxious.

Deep down she knew it was pointless, worrying. There was nothing she could do to help, nothing she could do to save him. Her family was going to be torn apart again.

Her parents, Livvy, and now Ty.

Dru felt tears on her cheeks before she had even realized she was sobbing. Blood was beginning to appear around her nails. She shook her head and went for a tissue.

This place had never really been a home. Not really in the traditional sense. They had been trained for war practically since birth. Their father hadn't been the warmest man from what Dru could remember, but she had mainly been raised by Julian. He had showed them so much love. He had tried to keep them safe, to make this place a sanctuary.

Drusilla make her way down the stairs. At the top of the stairway Livvy and Ty used to lean over the stairwell and gossip and giggle about the things that were happening below. That would never happen again.

She stopped in her tracks at the base of the stairs and let out a choking sob.

"Dru?" "Sweetheart?" She turned towards the sound of the voice.

Jules was standing in front of her.

He and Emma had been in Japan when Ty started getting sick. She had held off calling them until she knew it was serious. Dru didn't want them to freak out.

Honestly she mostly just didn't want it to be real. Calling them, calling everyone would make it real. It would mean Ty was really dying.

Jules looked exhausted. He clearly hadn't slept or shaved in days.

"Are you ok?" He asked her.

Dru couldn't say anything. She just cried. Julian shook his head sadly.

"Oh Dru, by the angel I'm sorry." He pulled her into his arms, squeezing her tightly. "Of course you're not ok. None of us are."

She buried her face in his shoulder, wheezing in short choking breaths. Dru had so many memories of sobbing in Julian's arms as a child. There had been so much loss. But through it all she always had the strength of her family behind her and the comfort of knowing that Jules would always be there to hold her. To protect her.

"We're not giving up." Emma spoke up. "Mark and Cristina are in New York working on a cure, Kieran promised he would look through texts in faerie that might help, and-"

Dru pulled back from Julian. "Wait Mark's not coming home?" She glanced over to where Helen was sitting on Aline's lap on the couch. She looked equally as concerned.

Dru knew Helen was probably thinking the exactly same thing she was.

What if Mark doesn't get the chance to say goodbye?

Dru didn't want to give up. But she couldn't keep looking for a cure that didn't exist. She couldn't keep frantically pouring over books that held no answers.

She was just so tired. Tired of being afraid. Tired of always losing someone.

She took a step back and surveyed the room. Thaìs was hovering by the kitchen with Janessa by her side looking broody. Tavvy was asleep on the couch next to Helen and Aline, and-

Oh shit. Alyssa was missing.

How long had Alyssa been missing?

Dru turned frantically back towards Jules.

"Hey Jules, random question but did you see a girl with long dark hair when you came in?" She asked. "Filipina with dark brown eyes? She was wearing a white frilly shirt and jeans." Dru was met with blank looks from Jules and Emma.

So that was a no. Great.

Dru sighed and plopped down on the base of the stairs. "Whatever, it's the least of our problems right now. But if Ty asks where she is then we gotta find her."

Jules took off his jacket, hanging it bu the door. "Where is Ty? I want to see him."

Dru nodded. "He's in his room. I think he's asleep though. Kit's with him."

"Uh guys?" She heard Janessa's voice from above her. Dru spun around to see her at the stop of the stairs, leaning against the railing. She must have whooshed by her when Dru wasn't looking.

Damn vampires.

"Kit isn't there. I just checked."

Dru had never seen Janessa look even remotely scared. But now as she dug her finger nails into the railing and clenched her jaw, she looked worried. And for Janessa that was practically flat out terror.

"And that's not even our biggest problem," she continued darkly.

"I think I know where he is."

Sorry this chapter is so short but it's a filler chapter before we get to the real drama! Also I realize that Ty hasn't really had much to do in this fic besides be a plot device. But BELIEVE me that's gonna change soon... 😉

cassandra is the funniest person in the whole world remember before tlh came out and someone asked her which characters in tlh would be gay and she was like umm i'm not telling <3 because LAST time i told you who was gay in one of my little trilogies before it came out you were ANNOYING AS FUCK about it.... just read the book when it drops lmao goddamn..... and i for one think she was so real for that. because i was there before tda when she told everybody about ty and kit. and we WERE annoying as fuck. and it was her fault actually because. ok let me explain to you how this went down. ok so before tda was out two things happened that are relavent to this journey. first thing was someone asked her if any of the blackthorns were gay, and she was like. ok well first of all all faeries are bisexual so jot that down, secondly yes one more of them is but it's so so super secret and i won't tell you teehee just try and guess..... reminder. here is a list of the blackthorn siblings: helen (half faerie, bisexual, exempt), mark (half faerie, inherently bisexual, exempt), julian (lesbian but a teenage boy. in other words he's literally the male lead in a ya romance. straight as can be), livvy (is a girl, cassie is lesbophobic (joke)), ty (skinny little weirdo with a cringe sherlock holmes obsession), dru (girl), and tavvy (literal toddler). so. you know. you guess. and the second thing that happened was cassie told everybody in vague terms that ty would have a love interest and she said and i quote, (i don't quote i paraphrase who the fuck can remember the exact wording of a tumblr post they read 7 years ago. oh my god 7 years. that's not right. hold on. it is. what the fuck. anyway.) she said these characters would have her favorite ship name she's ever come up with (and can we be so for real and admit that's why she named them what she did. girl wanted to make her little jokes soooooo bad. she is such a fucking cat person it's embarassing). anyway so she said this, like months before lady midnight came out, but we didn't forget.... ty girls don't forget.... (me when i'm 14 and have NO problems whatsoever) and then it was like, three days before the release? i don't remember but it was a little bit before the book came out, she dropped one last flower card and was like oh hey btw there's this brand new guy in this book i didn't ever tell you about before just now his name's kit he's blonde ok bye. and then within, what? 30 seconds? we'd all put the pieces together and were like cassandra what the fuck. so of course everybody was annoying under those circumstances....

About Drusilla Blackthorn

Dru feels very lonely and this will definitely be developed in TWP. She was only 13 in TDA and despite having a lot of siblings and a lot of people close to her, she's not really close with anyone.

Julian has Emma.

Mark has Kieran and Cristina and has spent many years away from the family.

Helen has Aline and has spent many years away from her family as well.

Ty had (and still has) Livvy and he also has Kit.

Tavvy was practically a baby in 2012 he was so young.

Dru was a child, but the treatment given to her was very excluding her and she felt that her efforts were not even recognized. In addition to her self-esteem having already been affected because of her body.

When the secret about Julian having been the real person to run the institute since he was 12 was revealed to the brothers, Diana didn't even call Dru and Dru pretended not to care.

Dru feels loneliness and is already learning to deal with it in a very sad way. She is already learning to hide her true feelings, what she really thinks, to be more observant than someone who takes an active part in things, to pretend that everything is fine.

This is taking an unhealthy path.

And I don't blame Julian or Emma or the other siblings. They were all children there, Julian was only 12 years old when he started running an institute and taking care of the family, so of course he would be protective of his brothers and would do his best not to put them in situations that would affect their childhood, even in the slightest, after all, that's what happened to him.

But Dru is lonely and excluded, even if no one wanted that. And the consequences of this have already begun to appear in TDA.

In TWP, I hope to see a more reserved Dru, someone has a hard time opening up, getting close to people and liking the way she looks and I want to see her learn to overcome all of that.

13. what themes/motifs do you hope other people notice most about your character?

I don't actually know! lol

I feel like even though all of my characters have the common theme of either being a villain, being in a horror film, or being horror-associated (I guess that's the theme there), each one is still so different that outside of anything kind of general, it's hard to really pin a specific theme.

Like if you consider my two vampires, Drusilla from Buffy and my OC Malakai. Dru accepts what she is, she leans into it, she's okay with being a monster. Malakai never has been okay with it and despite being a vampire, he tries to follow a sort of moral code when it comes to picking his victims (like Dexter!).

Even all my serial killers have different MOs. Mallory just straight up enjoys it. Brenda did it out of revenge. And Harper snapped and had a mental breakdown.

I could probably take each muse and break them down and explain the themes/motifs more specific, but that would take a long time probably.

But the main general theme for the blog that I try to keep is that each muse either is a villain or has some sort of association with monsters (or people considered to be monsters). Like Marilyn by no means is a monster, but she is a Munster. And Helen on the surface is a very good likable person, but she was also willing to cover up what was believed to be the accidental murder of Ben Willis (and eventually became his victim, but we don't talk about that here).
