OK, I FINALLY HAVE AN ANSWER!! took me a hot minute to figure out sebs, but after reading all the pages and comparing, i do think entp fits him the best. also i saw this picture on pinterest about a relationship between isfj and entp and its so true, esp the "do not listen to each other's advice, still get each other out of trouble" LMFAO. also the 'protecting isfj at all costs' 🥺🥺🥺im soft. my fanfic does follow the plot of the game, but with sebastian added to every sidequest/story mission. and then from around the third (niamh's) trial, it starts to branch more into (mostly all) original stuff!^^

TS!Underswap Ruthless spoilers: (at least this time I put it under the cut)

Y'know, I fully expected Sans to be unkillable in any route, so this really came as sort of a surprise??? When the cardboard Crossbones got slashed at the end of the Ruthless fight, I was like "heh, yeah, fully expected that" until you meet Papyrus on the bridge and realize that, actually, Sans is really really gone???

And this is a shot-out to Sans' Neutral Evacuation battle where Sans gets us accounted with, ahem, "just a little guy, a little man" (translation: very ugly cardboard crossbones) an he starts talking about what would happen if that little man fell down? Since he was talking past tense, I thought Sans was exclusively talking about Crossbones: after all, in the neutral evacuation run, Crossbones is gone and only Sans remains. But isn't he actually warning us? Sans doesn't pull out the "pitch-black eyes" schtick during the neutral evacuation battle except during that line of dialogue, which is pretty good indication that he's threatening us: ("spreading words of your deeds, and making sure nobody forgets about what you did.") (((also this rhymed I found it super cool)))

Plus ugly cardboard crossbones fell over in the Evacuation run the same way pretty cardboard crossbones falls over in Ruthless. The whole Neutral Evacuation run is more of a warning than anything else: Really hit me when I first played it, because in my mind Sans was risking his life and warning us about how we planned on making the fight end... I came to the evacuation Neutral fight with the intent to betray kill Sans, but actually the WHOLE THING was SO HEARTFELT I definetly couldn't have dealt the killing blow even if that had been an option. (In contrast, Ruthless's Sans fight is just as (if not more) frustrating than its undertale counterpart. Not only because we're "Getting tired of this" (only after the 300th try, in my case!!!) but also because Crossbones is absolutely right about our questionable motives and the fact there's a thousand things we could be doing right now that would be better than this. When it's time to choose fight or spare, we're just glad the fight is ending.)

To go back to the topic of the Evacuation Neutral, I always found it weird that there was an animation that showed the fallen cardboard becoming smaller and smaller. But if fallen cardboards is Sans' euphemism for death, then he's showing us what'll happen if we go past him without changing our ways. People around us are gonna fall over and decrease in number, until there's gonna be next to none of them left.

Also, Team Switch... ARE ALL RUTHLESS BOSSES GONNA BE AS HARD AS ASGORE AND SANS???? (I fully expect them to be harder and this S C A R E S me.) I died over 1000 times during that game already, and I'm not even exaggerating. Unfortunately. I sort of refused to touch the "decrease difficulty" button 'cause that wouldn't really be fair to the characters, but that doesn't change anything to the fact I suck at gaming. Just like crossbones so nicely pointed out during that famous race...

I rambled much longer than expected. Anyway, my idea for the drawing was that maybe the reason why Crossbones doesn't fight with his gadgets is because he forgot all of them (which, seeing the context, is understandable, even if using weird gadgets seems like a good way of stalling), and Papyrus, being the good brother that he is, grabbed them in a hurry because he knew they couldn't go facing murdery humans together without being properly equipped!

Travis Hackett x Reader WIP : PART 1

I wrote the first two chapters and wasn't sure if I was going to continue. Because people have expressed such support I have found the motivation to continue. More Chapters out now!

Background info: I’ve basically inserted (Y/N) into Laura and Max’s situation but with a twist. I’ve tried to keep much of the game dialogue the same in some scenarios so you can actually hear Travis Hackett saying it.

Chapter 1: An Impromptu Meet

“Fuck. It’s gotten really dark out” you say as you survey the road. 

Maybe driving in a day early wasn’t such a good idea. Especially this late at night. You did call ahead… kind of. You left a voicemail saying you’d be in later so that should have been good enough. I mean, Mr. Hackett always talked about how welcoming the town of North Kill was to new counsellors so this shouldn’t be that… bad.

“Shit. Did I miss the exit?”

You swing your head to look behind you in case you missed any signs. Your eyes shifting from one side to the other. When you turn back around you see something in the road, and you’re approaching it - Fast. You grab the steering wheel and swerve hard to the left. You feel a slight bump and skid off the road. The car crashes through the wooden fence, veering off into the forest. Hitting a stump you lose control of the wheel. The car twists and turns through the forest jostling you in the process. Next thing you know the car has skidded to the side and come to a stop.

You sit there for a time being, processing just what the fuck has happened. Your car makes puttering sounds in the silence.

“Oh my God… Oh my fucking God.” You say in disbelief.

Slowly regaining your composure you unbuckle your seatbelt. It hits your arm slightly as it zips up back into its regular place. You’re amazed that your airbag didn’t deploy after all that. You reach for the car door and open it with a shaky hand. As you take a step outside the vehicle you realize you’re a bit dizzy. Holding onto the car you steady yourself while taking in your surroundings. Yup. You are in the woods. Fuck. You take out your phone from the car and put on the flashlight, walking to the front to check out the damage. Shining the light you see where your front bumper is bent and that the right headlight is out, glass broken around it. 

“Shit…okay…okay. Not bad.” You move your flashlight a bit more, now seeing a bit of blood on the car. “But not great”. You say exasperated.

What the fuck was that? It was low to the ground but it looked… hunched? Fuck, how badly could it be hurt? I didn’t hit it straight on…

The wind blowed, rustling the leaves of the forest. For a moment you almost forgot how far you are from the road. Staring into the darkness you feel a sense of unease, as if there was something more than you in this neck of the woods.

Yeah. I gotta get the hell out of here

You open up the hood, hoping that you don’t see any damage you can’t fix easy. Nothing seemed too out of the ordinary… or so you hoped. It was kind of hard to even examine the car in your shaken state. As you close the hood you take a step to your side and catch yourself on a tree root, falling flat on your face.

“Oh God damn it.” You say, struggling to get up.

You wipe the mud off your phone first and then attempt to wipe down part of your shirt, making the stain worse in the process. You sigh out loud and make your way to the driver’s seat. As you open the door you hear a noise. Looking back slightly you hurry into the car and immediately lock it. You relish in the safety of your car, slowly realizing the soreness in your neck. Bringing your hand up to the nape of you twinge. Seems like your little adventure caused some slight whiplash. Although you don’t feel great it’s not as bad as it could be. You sigh once more as you get the keys to start the car up. As you turn the keys the car spits out rapid clicking noises but doesn’t catch.

“No, no, no! Come on!”

A sense of dread fills your stomach. You try again but it’s just the same sound over an over. You put your head down on the steering wheel. Closing your eyes you lift your head up.

“FUCK!” You scream as you hit both hands on the steering wheel. 

You grip the steering wheel for a few seconds before opening up your eyes and tilting your head back. Out of the corner of your eye you see a man in the window.

“FUCK!”  

The man stands there calmly. You notice the police uniform and you place your hand on your chest, centring yourself.

“Jesus fucking Christ…. Oh my God you scared me”

After you finish swearing and your heart beat isn’t going a million of miles per second the officer speaks.

“Roll it down.”

“Of course officer”

Rolling down the window you can see him more clearly. He’s got short dark hair, a slender face, and piercing eyes that look black in the darkness of the forest.

“Are you injured”, he says in a serious tone.

“No”, you say immediately. “Well, my neck hurts a bit but I’m okay. Just a little shaken up.”

“Mmhmm” he says, looking at you before drifting his attention to the front of the car. 

He walks up to where the damage is and you watch him. He slowly approaches where you’ve damaged the car and bends down. After a second of scanning the front he stands back up.

“You wanna tell me what’s happened here?” He says in a very straight to the point tone. 

You gulp as he makes his way back to your window. You can’t look him straight in the eyes so you look literally anywhere else as you muster up your answer.

“Yeah, uh, I-I was driving along the road and took my eyes off for just a second a-and when I looked back there was an animal or something right in front of me so I swerved to avoid it but ended up losing control and…” you pause to compose yourself. “And now I’m here.”

You finish your rambling, shaky response by looking at the officer. His facial expression hasn’t changed at all, fully focused on only what you are saying.

“What did this animal look like?” He’s dead serious, it causes you to shiver a bit.

“I couldn’t really tell, it was so dark and it happened so fast that I don’t know what I hit.”

The cop pauses, closing his eyes for a second before speaking. He looks back at you.

“Can you get your car running?”

“No officer. I don’t know why but it won’t start up… Here I’ll try again.”

You reach for the keys, give them a turn and the same clicking sound starts up again with no sign of stopping. He visibly sighs.

“Alright ma’am please exit the car. Let’s get to the road.”

“Oh okay” you say as he takes a step back from the vehicle.

Fuck. Honestly I’m just glad there was someone out here. I did not like the idea of being here all alone.

You open the car door, placing your feet on the ground. Standing next to him felt more intimidating than when you were in the car. Maybe it’s because he’s a few inches taller than you and so the height difference is more apparent. The fact that he looks extremely serious probably doesn’t help though. Before closing your door you speak up, catching his attention.

“Um, would it be possible to grab my bag from the back? If I’m leaving my car I’d like to take my belongings with me….”

He pauses for a second before replying. “Yeah. We can do that.” He waves his hand nonchalantly towards your car then to the police vehicle. “You can put in the trunk. Let’s get a move on. ” He starts walking.

“Thank you.” You say as you turn to your seat.

You take your backpack from the passenger seat with your water bottle and sunglasses. Pressing a button you pop the trunk and close the driver’s side door. Grabbing your bigger bag from the back you shut the trunk. You pat the vehicle, hoping you’ll see your car sooner than later. You fast walk to the cop car and lug your bigger bag into the back, choosing to keep your backpack by your side. You look to the cop. He’s shuffling some things from the front to the back seat area so you can sit. He bends back up, his hand on the passenger side door waiting for you. Closing the cop car's trunk you make your way over. You can feel him staring at you so you mostly stare at the ground while you walk. Near the door you decide to look up at him.

“Thank you again for all your help”, you say giving a slight smile.

You see his facial expression change, he’s not making eye contact but focusing on the side of your face. You’re a bit perplexed but you keep the smile. He reaches to his side.

“Hold still please.”

Now you’re even more confused. Your smile starts to drop and your eyes dart to his hand. He’s taking something out of his pocket. 

“What are you doing…?” You say with apprehension.

He brings out a handkerchief, shakes it once to unfold it and brings himself closer to you, arm outstretched. You step back.

“I said, stay, still.” He says assertively.

You freeze. Closing your eyes not knowing what to expect until you feel the cloth at the side of your face. 

“Just….yeah…” he says in almost a whisper. 

He’s wiping your face. You totally forgot about the fall you had earlier. You must have had some dirt on your face.

“Mhmm…there.” He mutters as he steps back, taking away the handkerchief from your face leaving you with only the tingly sensation of the cloth.

You open your eyes again, meeting his.

“Fresh as a daisy.” He says to you in an almost friendly tone. “Now, let’s get going.”

“Oh yeah, um, okay…” You say as you sit down, still wondering why he did that for you. 

He shuts your passenger door. You put your backpack down between your legs and reach for the seatbelt. He walks to the drivers seat and closes the door once he’s in. Without even looking at you he starts up the car and puts it into reverse. He turns his body towards you, reaching his hand toward your headrest and begins to back up. You til your head slightly so you’re not right next to his arm. You try not to look at him directly but as he shuffles in his seat you can’t help but notice the profile of his face. He’s actually quite attractive. He’s got a strong yet lean face, making his other facial features quite distinct. His hooded eyes are what initially caught your attention. Every time he looks at you it’s like he can see right through you, which is a bit unnerving on your side. The police uniform collar fits his neck perfectly, making his Adam’s apple quite pronounced. You realize you’ve probably been staring for a while so your eyes wander away from his frame. He definitely fits the role of tough rural police officer with a face like that. As he reaches the road the car ride starts to smooth out. Rolling to a stop he bring his hand back and puts the car in park. With one hand on the wheel and the other on his thigh he exhaled, looking right at you.

“Now, you wanna tell me, just what in the HELL you are doing, all the way out here, this late at night?”

The tone change made you jump a bit. Now we’re back to serious cop.

“Oh, yeah, I-I was headed up to Hackett’s Quarry summer camp, I’m a new counsellor.” You say with minimal stuttering. 

Visibly raising his eyebrow he takes a second to pause, zero-ing in on your face.

“You’re one night early.”

“Yes, yes I am. I called ahead so they knew I was coming. Thought I’d get in early and scope it out”. You turn your head back to where your car ran off the road. “Of course that hasn’t worked out great.” You say with a bit of an exasperated laugh at the end.

The officer doesn’t laugh back. You stop smiling and clear your throat slightly. He looks down and presses his lips together as if he was contemplating something. He looks up at you for a second, focusing of your face and your expression before looking back down.

“You’re not going to make it to Hackett’s Quarry.” Looking up he shakes his head. “Not Tonight.” He turns, focusing on the road ahead.

He taps his fingers on the steering wheel, probably thinking about what to do with you. As he’s taking a moment to pause you look down the road too. You turn your head a bit too fast making you wince from some slight pain. The cop notices this too, looking you up and down as you put your hand to the back of your neck.

“I’ll take you to the station tonight. It’s closest and I need to be out tonight.” He’s taken his hand off his thigh and placed the car in drive before you could respond.

“Oh…okay… that should be fine…” you say hesitantly. He starts a u-turn and begins to drive down the road.

“If you’re worried about what’ll happen to your car I’ll make sure to get it out first thing tomorrow. I’ll bring it to the scrapyard to get looked at.” 

“Oh, that’s fine. Thank you.” You say a bit off-put. “I was just wondering… you said you’d be out? Will you leave me alone at the station?” 

“Yup. I have things to take care of but I’ll give you a a bed ‘till morning. I’ll take you to the camp tomorrow. Do you understand.” The way he said it was more of an order than a question.

“Yes. Absolutely. Thank you Officer.” 

“Mhmm” he replies. 

For the rest of the drive you both sat in silence, filling the car with steady breathes and racing thoughts.

Wait, I haven't played (or really thought of) TAZ: Balance in years, and I never really got into the speedrunning scene. But do all the speedruns run in the optional chronological timeline order? I get that starting with hundred year journey lets you play around with the early faerun stats that Barry, Lucretia and Lup (or really the Umbrastaff) get, but considering the long gameplay loop I'd have thought that runners would just settle for the basic stats for those three and exploit the hell out of the tres horny boi's immunity to corruption buff to free lup and then speedrun the rest of the relics, at least for any%. Is running hyj first actually worth it despite the fact that the planar order is randomised? Or do runners use a specific seed when running that category? Also, shame to see that Merle and John's Parleys isn't as present in the current meta. That cutscene where John monologues about his doctrine and Merle rejects him is just *mwah* incredible. Although I guess it's understandable considering how long those dialogues are.

PGR and the portrayal of war aka another compare and contrast to Genshin

One thing I wanna give to PGR’s story is how they handle war. Like, for the most part I think only war films capture that brutality really well, but for most fictional wars it’s treated more like just something that happened. All the dead people mean nothing to the viewer, and we only care when a major character dies. 

PGR is like that initially too, but as the story progresses and especially in recent chapters the horrors of war are highlighted. 

From the batshit crazy amount of deaths in Evernight Beat, to the look into the politics of the world government, the early construct programs and the claustrophobic shelter/bunker in Surviving Luceum. It’s all ugly, really, really ugly. There is no glory, because even skk and the Gray Raven as “the heroes” are still suffering and making lots of sacrifices. 

Can we also talk abt the NPC deaths? Bc those are the most tragic. 

Obviously, PGR will probably never kill off a playable/important character. But that doesn’t mean it can’t hurt if it’s an NPC. 

I wanna compare Teppei to the head Commandant. That old guy, Hans I think? I forgot his name. There are worst NPC deaths in PGR but I wanna compare head Commandant and Teppei bc they’re both soldiers. 

As much as everybody loved to say how sad Teppei’s death is, come on ya’ll it really was not that bad. Teppei was part of our little squad in the resistance but what the fuck do we care? Why is he fighting against Inazuma’s Shogunate? We don’t know. Seems like he’s trying to get buddy buddy with everyone given how all he does is get along with the traveler and want to get matching uniforms or whatever. 

He dies of rapid aging because of the delusions Kokomi stupidly bought from the Fatui no questions asked. Okay then. Uh, how sad? Yeah there’s that dialogue when he’s old abt oh he wants to get new uniforms but… didn’t that just feel like Hoyo was trying to be sad? Listen when they really want to be sad, they are sad. This is not bashing Hoyo’s writing, just Inazuma’s story as a whole. Come on, that arc was horrible and you know it. Hoyo’s writing is emotional, the recent Honkai chapters look like they’re gonna be tear jerkers (and I don’t even play that game) Xiao’s whole thing in the chasm, Himeko’s death, all of the we will be reunited quests with Dainsleif. I just really hated Inazuma sorry. 

Point is, it just wasn’t sad because we don’t know shit about him and Traveler doesn’t seem to hung up either. He was just a soldier, and the war against the Raiden Shogun was just one huge fucking joke. Stakes? What the fuck are those. The leader was Kokomi who we all knew Hoyo would never have the balls to kill because she’s a) a marketable waifu and b) not a mentor figure. We had Gorou who was just dogboy. I guess there was Ayaka but she isn’t actually part of Kokomi’s army (same with Ayato) there’s also Yoimiya but these are characters who the story would not benefit from killing. 

Head Commandant was different. I didn’t see his death from a million miles away (though I probably should have ngl) but then again when he was introduced he was kind of an asshole. I think PGR’s visual novel format helps its characterization a lot, not that Genshin’s format is bad, Dunyarazad is one of my favourite NPCs and she was characterized just fine. But the way they describe Head Commandant just tells you everything, same with the way he speaks. 

“Fluorescent lights form the outline an elderly man in the air. He is wearing the same standard issued commandant uniform. Every meticulous pleat is as stern and upright as his expression. The man’s eyes are slightly clouded with age, but his posture remains upright like that of an unyielding pine” (Echo Aria) 

Immediately he’s like the token “god damn it kids these days” conservative asshole who softens up to the main character. Except, we see him talking to one of the humans around his age who was left behind on Earth during the Punishing Virus’ outbreak. And then he’s not just asshole old man, he’s asshole old man who’s seen shit and wants to keep pushing forward in this horrible war without exploiting children (cough cough Nikola) That second part (not the children thing) is driven home during Evernight beat when he tells everyone to evacuate so he can finish the job. 

We don’t see it obviously, but we are given every grisly detail about his death as the Punishing virus turns him inside out. How he’s sweating blood and looses feeling in his limbs, yet still pushes forward to try and save as many people as he can.

But you don’t need to read all of that to know this man’s conviction

The only medal he needs is the blood drying on his chest to prove that he lived and died as a soldier. 

Though I wouldn’t say his death made me cry, it didn’t have to. It hit hard. He was characterized for Echo Aria, and died in Evernight beat, and from his death on, everything goes to shit and the reality of what war is dawns on the player. 

I say this having watched 1917 and Saving Private Ryan; I think PGR displays the reality of war really well. This is some heavy fucking baggage and not for “spicing up your character with some trauma’s sake.” It’s really part of the story. Welcome to PGR, the baggage is free but at what cost :’)

mipha used to like rain!! its one of the only weathers where new types of creatures come out, like tireless frogs. also its pretty she doesnt care what anyone says its always pretty. especially with how the domains lights reflect off of it!!!! also it feels really nice on her scales. she likes to direct water by moving her arm whe droplets are running across it so it looks like her hand is a small hose if its raining enough. anyways however uh. after vah ruta she probably likes to see the domain sunny again. i dont know how aware she was during the whole being trapped as a spirit thing, so she may still like the rain but’s still weary over it. so right now her favorite weather would probably be sun showers: not enough rain to break the dam and its sunny, but its still raining so critters come out And you feel nice rain on your skin/scales, and the rainbows!!! promises of a better future over all. also i forgot about thunderstorms in the past she’d go over to watch the lightning, nowadays she’ll still watch it but isnt a fan of the noise or wind

on one hand i dont think revali would have a good perception of weather in general (tabantha alone has like. a 2% chance rain and is mostly always sunny, and after doing the shrine quest for the singing chicks/the singing rocks quest rito village is just set to Always Sunny. no i dont know why . so its good chance that for revali itd either be Sunny or Snowy and no in between. ritoes still know of rain though (in game dialogue) so he at least knows of it), however once he does travel i dont think he’d like the rain honestly. makes his feathers wet and heavy and hes not even taking a shower and its Cold >:( . while rainbows would be cool to him once again the rain deters him. snowy is familiar to him but sometimes thats a bad thing. as much as he Knows it its both extremely cold, hard to see through, cold with the Wind making it feel a lot more cold than it is, and yeah. ive said that he would pride himself on being able to see through it which he would but sometimes i think itd be a struggle over all. so he likes sunny the best. thunder irritates him

daruk doesnt have too much of a preference! he likes sunny as its what his home had before death mt was active, rain is something new and surprisingly feels nice, sun showers have both the perks of sunny and rain And have the bonus of rainbows. i dont think he’d like heavy Heavy rain or thunderstorms but yeah! he also wouldnt like snow nor lava/magma weather

urbosa would love thunder storms. gerudo desert as beautiful and homey as it is is so hot. it makes you sluggish tired ready to puke and pass out from heatstroke. unless you have a circlet you will Not Have Fun. always bring water i cannot stress this enough. so having cold rain would already be fun enough, both because of the kind of child instinct of wanting to play in the rain but also Water. Cool. feels nice. minus getting your clothes wet but Still. and then Lightning Too?????? she can practice smiting people and no one would notice!! on a more serious note though she’d like to see thunder in its. Natural Habitat. though she might be a little more weary of it after naboris. also once again she just likes the rain especially if its raining really hard. she does not like snow at all, sunnys meh, sun showers are cool

zelda!!!!!!! thunder storms sun showers and surprisingly enough, snow!! she likes snow the most due to being able to play with snow, snowflakes Looking Like That, and how it feels in general. if its not windy its Perfect for her. sun showers show rainbows and thats mostly what shes a fan of, she Does like the rain but probably a lot more post cal because she can play in mud and dirt and rain with no consequence/shame. she probably Would have shame over it unless there was a goal to it . like walking through bottomless bogs just to get across she’d Do That. but i dont know if she’d actually play play in mud unfortunately </3 . thunderstorms she likes seeing how the thunder Comes In, as they appear through little clouds like the dragon clouds. also did you know that at certain mountain points if its thundering itll turn to snow but the thundering itself wont stop, so itll snow And thunder. i think thatd be her favorite. i dont think she likes the sound of thunder though. also she likes the ash flakes of magma weather but Hates the hot

wreath!!!! neutral however he hates thunderstorms and snowy weather. thunderstorms as it Targets his Weapons and he gets Fried!!!!!!!!!!!! also he cant climb walls. snowy weather he can never see anything and its always creepy… herobrine weather. he does like rain (pretty) but once again. he cannot scale anything. this led to him while scaling the skull lake eye shrine to camp out in a small caveish/a place where he could stand on solid ground when he was halfway up. i think zelda would want to do this and Do This instead of teleporting up. anyways sunnys meh to him. provides nothing of value except in snow regions. post everything it doesnt really. matter to him . well even less. he likes rain a little more now but yeah! probably rain

This shit feels off. This makes me wanna scream. What the actual fuck is the Midnight Channel? Like, images aren't supposed to be clear unless the person is in the TV. Namatame is not. And he's denying the shit the Shadow is saying.

Also like, the game is specific enough to say "Other Namatame" and not "Shadow Namatame."

Yeah, in other instances, the speaker is plainly stated to be "Shadow NAME," unlike here. But the "Other" Namatame tries to make it seem like Namatame was in his full and understanding mind as he did all this shit.

Will be interesting to see what it's like to play the game now! As yeah, besides a few collectables and such, then just the repeat quests and undiscovered rare/ultra rare dinos, I think I am done with the game now? Least I dunno if there is a quest after getting the parasaurolaphus?

I found some more rare dinos (once again more than shown here) I only took in the Galli and Allosaur. I actually saw a Shamrock T-Rex but I forgot about it before sleeping for the day :( Also, I was having an issue where my coelophysis kept going out of their pen, like, way worse than other dinos, I tried making their pen larger but suddenly it wouldn't count as a pen and it said they had no pen, even though all I did was slightly extend it and it was fully enclosed. So I moved it back to its original size, and this time it worked, issue is, it wasn't showing the pen as their pen, it was showing the entire ranch as their pen, so I think this is why they were never "in their pen" as the game just kept saying their pen isn't a pen, but the ranch was? So I then had to take down and remove their pen entirely, fully relocate them to a new area, then build a new pen there, as yeah, for some reason in this one specific location it wouldn't let me build a pen? Quite frustrating either way

But yeah, after dinner and stuff it'll be interesting to see how much longer the game grabs me, if at all, as as far as I am aware, getting the Paras was the big quest and then that's it! Oh, another weird thing, 2 actually. Firstly, when I brought the Paras back Lucky instantly got sad and wouldn't let me ride her, so I had to go see Owyn for ideas to cheer her up, but something that confuses me is an option was saying I can't find the other Paras, so that's why Lucky's sad? Even though she became sad IMMEDATELY after I put another Para in her pen? So I dunno if I was meant to get this quest earlier but it glitched in a way and it just forced me to take it at such a random point? But also, besides the Para, I also took in the Allo at the same time, this caused what I think may be two bugs? The first was Owyn and Mari came to freak out about my Allo, but for some reason all my dinos escaped their paddocks and were out in the ranch or each others paddocks when this happened? And I have no idea why? So I left then re-entered to hope this rest then all, which it did, but then my character had, what I assume was meant to be the dialogue play for when I took back my first Para, but yeah, I already placed it in a pen so he sorta was standing there talking to nothing?

this time i have a bit more thoughts on her as an actual character so ill start w that before the headcanon dump ... also, throughout this post ill be referring to her w she/her pronouns because of a personal headcanon im VERY attached to. all i ask is any rbs or further questions abt my specific vision of her use those same pronouns... in others posts i do not care obviously. also, this post is specifically abt her in the dsaf universe since shes far more substantial there.

firstly, i should say i ADORE harry. she is one of my biggest comfort characters in a series where almost everybody is one for me. so when i give any criticisms, know its out of love and a wish for some more expansive writing rather than any malice. being critical of media you love is important, etc etc.

my biggest issues with her character really boils down to the lack of acknowledgement abt her being physically disabled. she mentions having a "bad leg" during 3, but its ONLY mentioned that one time, during (i believe) missable dialogue. i understand her not using, like, mobility aids for it since it may be difficult to find suitable stock images (+ all the phonies in that game use the same photos for their bodies, and its totally possible its not something she feels she needs), but it probably shouldve been mentioned or expanded upon more.

i dont believe were given any explanation on how her leg ended up the way it is, or in what way it is. we dont know if she was born with her disability or aquired it later. we dont know if its paralyzed, we dont know if its because of a muscular dystrophy, or anything else. i just wish we were given more info, bcus as it is, it is REALLY easy to look over in favor of, say, her ptsd.

speaking of which, i have some mixed feelings on how her ptsd is portrayed. on one hand, the joke in the restaurant reviews abt her having flashbacks and a subsequent panic attack feels very distasteful, though thankfully this is (i believe) the only instance of this kind of joke at her expense. im glad elsewise it isnt some huge , controlling part of her character - however, again, it IS missable. while one can assume she has it when she discusses her past, i dont believe its explicitly stated UNTIL that review.

tldr; her disability feels poorly handled, mostly from lack of expansion and discussion.

thankfully, though, she is elsewise a very enjoyable character; shes got some really good and funny dialogue, the exposition we get from her about the original managers is really fucking good, and i really wish we heard more abt her experience working with rebecca (and presumably roger)... again, her biggest issues are just not having as much of a spotlight on her as she couldve, but considering the employees arent really the main focus of the game that may be fine actually...

My first adventure in the lands between is indeed toward its end (I'm 135h in I think) ! (I forgot to answered you last time sorry too XD) I just need to finished some catacombs and stuff at the mountain tops, the fire giant, Farum Azula, Mohg & Malenia (+ I reach the frenzied flame too! so I might do that too but I need to be sure to have the needle) and I think I did almost everything else ? I think ?? maybe I forgot 1-2 catacombs or a few optional bosses (oh yeah I need to do the bell bearing hunters...) but I think I might have done almost everything else ?? (don't don't ask me for all the items & papers lol XD )

Why I feel appmon succeeded with Yujin and Offmon whereas tamers failed with Ryo and Monodramon/Cyberdramon

 Yeah I know I’m probably not going to make any friends with this rant especially since this comparison seems pretty random at first glance so I may as well explain what the narrative similarities between the two are and why I feel one duo succeeded in terms of how they were written where the other duo failed.

The similarities in question are how both Ryo and Yujin have storylines that involve digimon partners that, while usually much more calm in their base forms have problems controlling their more violent and aggressive evolved forms and that said storylines end with said issues being resolved via said partners learning how to control themselves. But the differences in how these plot points are handled is where I feel tamers fails and appmon succeeded.

Starting off with tamers, the most obvious problem with how Ryo and Monodramon/Cyberdramon handle this kind of comparison is that while it could have been used to progress Ryo’s and/or Monodramon/Cyberdramon’s characters is that it’s resolved offscreen and that the two are just handed the ability to matrix evolve/biomerge without any explanation in the actual show, thus destroying pretty much any and all chance for said plot point to actually mean something in said season since this means we see neither Ryo or Monodramon/Cyberdramon grow as characters as a result. What makes this worse is that it doesn’t even make sense in the actual show since Ryo and Monodramon/Cyberdramon weren’t present Dobermon gave the other tamers the ability to matrix evolve/biomerge in the human world since it was established that they couldn’t do so at that point in the story. And no, bringing up a tweet made by Chiaki J. Konaka isn’t a good defence since that explanation should have been in the actual show and neither is bringing up the wonderswan games for why their characterisations are the way they are since it’s straight up bad writing for tamers to rely on a completely different medium that weren’t even released outside of Japan or given official localisations especially since tamers is supposed to be it’s own standalone season unlike 02, tri or any of the adventure movies since those are sequels that take place in the same continuity. There is also the fact that Ryo’s characterisation in tamers is... well I don’t really wanna say he feels like a gary stu since nowadays I feel like that term has lost its meaning like mary sue but I will say that his characterisation feels... overly perfect in the sense that he isn’t given any actual character flaws to work with. And while a character can still be well written even if they themselves don’t develop since they can still contributes to the growth, change and development of other characters or even the world around them, the problem is that those types of characters still need flaws in order to be interesting which is where I feel Ryo’s characterisation in tamers is lacking.

Another big problem is how tamers handles Monodramon/Cyberdramon’s characterisation or well... lack thereof since we never see what Monodramon/Cyberdramon’s personality is like outside of his violent tendencies. This is made especially clear since when he doesn’t even get to show what his character is like when he is reverted back to Monodramon who wasn’t even given any actual lines of dialogue. The lack of dialogue in question feeling more like they forgot to give Monodramon a personality rather than the lack of actual talking being a part of his character due to how little screentime he is given in this form.

Now onto appmon, that season made none of the mistakes that tamers did with Ryo and Cyberdramon/Monodramon since not only is this plot point resolved onscreen meaning we actually got to see Offmon grow from this sort of thing especially since Yujin and Offmon/Shutmon debuted in this season and not in a game that takes place in a different universe and didn’t have to rely on a tweet made the season’s screenwriter to explain a plot hole. Another big advantage the writing for Yujin and Offmon/Shutmon have is that we actually get to see what Offmon/Shutmon’s personality is like outside of said violent tendencies both during and after said plot point with Offmon’s character being very shy, friendly and not having much confidence but of course grows more confident after the plot point with his more violent evolution is resolved. And I’m pretty sure everyone knows that there is a huge difference between a character being simple like Offmon/Shutmon and being underwritten like Monodramon/Cyberdramon. Yujin also edges out over Ryo since he does have a big character flaw in being overly selfless to a fault (kinda like how Hikari/Kari is though I don’t think this comparison is the best for this sort of post) since said selflessness leads to not only him dying but also saving the world as a result. Anyways this was me saying appmon did something significantly better than tamers, I don’t know if I executed this comparison well or not so some feedback would be nice (and I mean actual feedback, not rants going x season sucks and you’re not allowed to like it) since I don’t consider myself to be someone with the best media literacy and I’m not as invested in either tamers or appmon as I am with the original adventure continuity (yeah sorry I’m basic in this situation).

Its not much but its honest work ToT

Yesterday I read:

1 chapter of hanshe (I’m extensive reading, which is artificially easier than usual since I’ve read this before so even if I ‘forgot’ words, I honestly know them somewhere in my brain so they come back easily when reading)

2 chapters of Granting You a Dreamlike Life (eirenical’s translation reminded me ToT! Honestly if it weren’t for hanshe’s author’s writing being SUPER familiar to me, I think GYADL author actually writes a bit easier to read. The difficult part is the unrecognizable words I Actually have never studied before, unlike hanshe, so I have to put in a bit more effort to figure them out)

1 chapter of Journey to the West Vernacular. Easiest version I’ve ever read of this story, it feels like a graded reader. But has a slight style to it which makes it enjoyable. Easier to read than GYADL, but again hanshe is artificially easiest since somewhere in my brain I have all the words in it stored ToT.

0.5 chapters of ‘Liu Li’. So I had a link to Liu Li, Love and Redemption’s novel. Well. That link was apparently fanfic, I read a few paragraphs and oddly sects were being called businesses...then Ling Long said she got a job... then Sifeng showed up in a western style suit with GLASSES. And I was like yep this is definitely definitely the WRONG story lol. I actually have the print version of Liu Li in my house but its in a box right now ;-;. So yeah... I’ll need to go looking for this novel again lol, somehow I’d saved a fanfic last time I bookmarked it.

Honestly yes, I still just want to extensively read Guardian. But who knows when I’ll get the bravery to try that again. I also tried reading some japanese detective novels translated into Chinese (since that was what was popular in the section of a site i was browsing through). But um... seeing hanzi that represent japanese names just fried my brain way too much and I bailed after 1 paragraph. (Truly: I saw Tokyo written in hanzi in the first sentence, and my brain pronounced it the chinese hanzi way and it just hurt my brain to think about i don’t even know why).

Yesterday and today I listened to:

Final Fantasy VII lets play in japanese, I found a new lets player I like. She cosplays sometimes for them (for IX she dressed as zidane!) I used the closed captions on youtube so I had some japanese subs. It was artificially easier since I’ve played the game in english, so I could guess what words meant what. That said - I think that makes learning from it easier. I think that means if I just relaxed and watched a lets play of a game I’ve played, I’d pick up a lot of words from context that otherwise would be too difficult to learn as quickly. I know whenever I check out Kingdom Hearts cutscenes I can figure out words easy (cause I know that game by heart lol)

Midnight Diner condensed audio (I found a lot of japanese audio lately). I could catch bits and pieces of things said, which I honestly consider a success considering how hard it was to watch IN japanese only last time I tried. I did not follow what was going on, but just catching some bits of dialogue meaning was cool!

Final Fantasy X condensed audio. This is proof that (somehow) I could learn some new words from audio-only resources in japanese, specifically if they’re media I’m already familiar with. I know the scenes and characters SO well I have figured out a few words just now listening as I work. And I can tell what scene I’m hearing fairly easily (music cues and sound effects same as in english, actors have the same ‘vibe’ even though they’re japanese VAs), which makes guessing words easier since I know the topic. And then, I find recognizing words I ALREADY know easier (since I know the scene’s context I can expect them) - which is good review for me and helps improve my listening comprehension. Also I finally really hammered in soshite - and, dakara - because, oyaji - dad/pops, sekai - world, dekimasu - can! (also its so cute Lulu uses ‘anta’ when I’ve only otherwise heard anta used by yakuza in the Yakuza games ToT). Anyway just notes for me personally: I think its really cool to see that I can pick up NEW stuff and make improvements just listening to audio. Because I would have thought that ‘too hard’ to do at my level.

Alice in Wonderland in Japanese, read-listened in DuoReader app. Well. I did 5 pages. It was hard. I read a LOT of hiragana without kanji to help me as a crutch. Japanese and English have such different sentence structure that the english text did not help with comprehending the audio much lol. So I mostly followed the japanese text with the japanese audio. I do feel I learned some stuff. It was brain frying though. Although, I suppose, Listening Reading Method often does make me feel exhausted. Its a very intensive study method. 

Can you tell I’ve been listening to a lot of japanese?? Studying japanese feels so much like I’m jumping in an ocean and going ‘LETS SEE ALRIGHTY’ and then treading water randomly to see if I’ll float or find any islands or drown. But when I use reading resources (because I did jump into trying to read Alice in Wonderland in japanese yesterday with audio), I find myself so reliant on kanji (based on my hanzi knowledge) that it really hinders my ability to pick up new hiragana words. I find this whole past year I’ve been a lot more successful doing mainly audio focus on japanese. But audio focused lessons also mean a lot more unknowns unless I’m using full on english-japanese sentence audio.

I've read so many books I've started to become them, and honestly? There are worst fates. I think I'd make a good like...wise character. Like the one the main character goes to when they have a question and I pull on information I don't explain how I got and set them on their quest or something. Or they discover a cursed magic item and they're like, well Quil probably knows something useful. And then I do.

Anyway! Congrats on the reading! I actually did so much reading, writing, and drawing the past week that I gave myself a headache three days in a row. Like I legit had to just sit for an hour yesterday doing nothing. I've been meaning to read Call Down the Hawk since it came out--I actually started it back then, but for some reason I only got to the part right after the crabs(?) in the dorm where Ronan gets kicked out, and then cries(?) in the garden(?). But I fully intend to return to it, I love the world of trc. And Ronan's my favorite. so.

and the pjo thing!! i've been blasting through them at the rate of about one a day just like oh my god I forgot how much I loved these. the writing style is just so fun. currently half-way through mark of athena, but I had to stop because I do this thing every year where the first book I read is a twilight book for shits and giggles, so I gotta finish life and death before I go back to it (i'm already about 3/4ths of the way done so not a huge detour).

Oh right the boy and the heron! I forgot I mentioned that--I saw it yesterday! I'll admit it did contribute to my headache, because big bright screen in a dark room is...not great. my laptop gives me headaches sometimes, but anyway. I don't think it's my favorite ghibli film, but it had a draw to it. it's quite beautiful, and it's thought provoking in its way. very ghibli-esque.

bg3!! I haven't played myself (doesn't seem my kind of game), but I will admit I did have a few moments of just being enraptured by astarion. which is so cliche of me, but what can I say? his dialogue was funny.

okay im going to find out how different genshin is rn. i dont have money for zelda games so the knockoff gacha version will have to do. if its not horrible still. sorry i just fucking hated kind of everything about sumeru. i mean the aranaras where cute, but their quest line was literally the only one i cared about. and the restrictiveness of it all started to piss me off. you couldnt really do shit. cant catch big animals. cant interact with like anything in the world. cant even buy cooking ingredients with the small ass stock. cant lower the rendering distance. cant do quests because "a character is busy with another one of your quests", like what even is that. just hide the models if you don't want the player to see double of a character. also I really hate the animation that happens when you go to the menu/tab thing. I hate how the counters on choosing stacked objects accelerate. i hate how every character looks the same. I hate how you cant skip dialogue efficiently. i hate the arbitrary limitations in the teapot realm build mode. I hate the pointless dialogue options. I hate how the bounty enemies spawn near other enemies. i hate how the hilichurls have been proven to have sentience but the player has to continue killing them. I hate how limited the "difficulty mode" chooser is. i hate the way you have no indication on if a surface is climable or not. i hate the way trees show no indication when you've gotten all the wood that you can from one. i hate how pyro characters get cold just as easily as others, and how fire from their abilities does not affect the cold meter at all. I hate the way boss enemies cant be hit multiple times in a row, and need a pause in between every hit for them to register. i hate the way ley line blooms have no visible count down to their dissapearance, despite there existing one. i hate how they made a single new bait for every fish in sumeru. I hate how the map doesnt show underground areas. i hate how boss enemies take forever to complete their wake up animation, making surprise plummet attacks impossible. i hate how they're getting kids addicted to gambling. "Fresh and Tasty Chop Suey!". "We'll grill your entire fish!". "Fengen's Ironmongers". "Moonpies! That's what I'll make him!"...

have they released a new nation yet? im most excited about the hydro nation probably. I don't have much faith in pyro, and cryo aka uhh i forgot the name...wtv so i feel like cryo will be too story focused that you won't really get chances to do things on your own. I mean id like some old ass, fancy ass, russian empire stuff. maybe we'll get female characters that dont wear booty shorts and thigh highs. perhaps we'll get slavic faces. although thats just wishful thinking. i doubt that they'll spend money on any more player skeletons lmao. although they really arent doing shit with the models either. actually yeah, even if they didnt want to pay someone to make new skeleton rigs, they could definetly do a lot more with the models than what theyre doing now. like genuinely it would not be hard to alter the models to make each one at least a bit unique. like please dont continue to do that smooth skinny dolls with little noses ass shit. also why are their faces so bare. most there is is when the hair covers a part of their faces. but like,, tattoos? smudges? freckles? moles? scars? birthmarks? piercings? like literally anything omg.

i dont have any faith in HoYo to have fixed any of these tbh. i just like having games that have routine things you can do every day, with no big consequences if you miss a day or a week. ill see what updates i can find on it. ill probably download it either way, even if it still sucks and feels tiring. ill delete it if I hate it so much.
