My favorite little character trait so far in Castlevania Nocturne is Olrox's possessiveness.
Once he marks something as his, it's his whether he even realizes it or not.
We are told, straight up by him, that he turned his lover into a vampire without his partner's say-so. Lenore mentioned the nature of Vampires—the ever-present hunger. This burning desire to grow and consume, consequences be damned. We see this in Erzsebet's obsessive need to become the ruler of all things in existence, so much so that she has fashioned herself as the Messiah. We see this compulsive gluttony in Carmilla and her all-consuming greed; she simply must have it all, because no one else is deserving of the world.
We see it in Godbrand's animalistic, sadistic tendencies when hunting his prey. Chō's demented need to make every kill, every transformation a perverse performance of her monstrous skill.
We definitely see it in Dracula. His anger and wrath, razing kingdoms and laying waste to societies.
There is a gaping maw seemingly inherent in all those turned into Vampires. Humanity's flaws taken to their most extreme conclusions once the Vampiric venom drips through.
Olrox is possessive beyond belief. What is his is his.
He claims he doesn't love Mizrak, but risks exposing himself to Drolta and Erzsebet the second Mizrak's life is in danger.
He cannot let go, just like Vlad. He must get even. With Olrox, at least this thirst for vengeance is balanced by his adherence to what he views as justice, which means he isn't the type to initiate a war in the name of his beloved. Olrox is "An Eye for an Eye" adherent.
It's something that truly intrigues me, because every single named Vampire exhibits this endless hunger.
Even Death, who is considered a type of vampire itself.
Alucard, I think, is free (or at least more in control) because of Lisa's own human nature—the ability to feel satisfaction, as well as her nurturing light. This is only developed further because of Trevor, Sypha and Greta.
Which begs the question: what is Tera's hunger? What is that idea or feeling that'll hook its fangs into her skin and drive her into reckless abandon?
Love for Maria and Richter? The feelings of betrayal against the Abbott? Her hatred of Erzsebet for the murder of her sister?
Another fucking reason why I need SEASON 2 NOW GOD FUCK NETFLIX STOP RENEWING EMILY IN PARIS YOU WACKOS.

Book Carmilla vs Adaptations (SPOILERS)
Here are a few 'interesting' adaptations. I like some of them for their own merits, but mostly dislike them as Carmilla adaptations for the below reasons, with some notable exceptions: Vampyr: The Dream of Allan Gray (1932 film): The first Carmilla inspired movie, although it keeps almost NOTHING from the novella except 'female vampire'. In this case, a creepy old lady rather than a charming young lesbian. This is a really moody, slow, acid trip of a film though, a treat for fans of vintage vampire film. (3/10) Hammer Karnstein Trilogy: The Vampire Lovers is the gayest and most book-accurate. Carmilla still kisses/seduces men before killing them, boo. The second one her identically-named reincarnation is blonde and has sex with / falls in love with a man booooooo. She's not in the third one at all. It's all very 70's and nowhere near queer enough, but at least we got the incomparable Ingrid Pitt in the first movie. 5/10. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust: 'Carmilla' shows up as a surprise third act villain. She's an elegant and imposing vampire queen with a castle called "Cjethe" and the Vampire King offed her previously for being A Bit Too Extra. She's... Bathory. She's Elizabeth Bathory, right down to the name of her historical castle, the elaborate gowns and the blood-bathing. Bathory in Castlevania Nocturne even looks a lot like this one. Cool scary vampire lady, but Carmilla In Name Only. 4/10 Castlevania (Games): She's fine here, but mostly just kind of a big Dracula groupie like most of the other non-Dracula vampires. Often depicting as a flying skull or mask crying bloody tears, with optional succubus-like figure reclining on top of it. Cool. Rondo of Blood has her appear together with a ninja vampire Laura with bunny ears because why the hell not. 6/10 Castlevania (Netflix show): Baddass, angry Karen. She's amazing in the first season when she's scheming against Dracula, but after that she just sort of sits on her butt sipping wine and griping about men for a whole season until Isaac storms her castle. A cool character but not a great Carmilla, because Carmilla for me is defined by how much she loves women, not how much she hates men. Still amazing voice work by Jaime Murray though and her last stand was insanely baddass. 7/10
Carmilla Web Series / Movie: My favorite adaptation. It's obviously playing waaaay fast and loose with the canon and reframing her as a charming antihero in a zany urban fantasy, but there's deep current of love for the source material, especially in the movie. Natasha Negovanlis has charisma off the charts and the Hollstein romance is adorable. This Carmilla might be a black-leather-wearing snarky millenial goth with a Canadian accent, but as the show goes on it peels back layer after layer of the romantic, poetic, wistful, world-weary immortal hinted at by the novella. This show redeems LeFanu's lovelorn villain in all the best ways. 10/10. 2019 movie / Styria movie: I still haven't seen these, have heard good things about the gothic cinematography on the most recent one but not good things about the rest of it. The trailer looked moody and pretty though, I may watch it at some point.

I hope requesting something is still okay! Also, I really wanted to let you know how beautiful your writing is. Your musings with Carmilla in mind remind me a lot of the actual novella. They're my favourite to read :)
Now onto my request! I wondered if you could write about Carmilla with a reader who is staying at her castle, but they both haven't confessed to each other yet. Some good old-fashioned gothic vampire pining lol
Hope you have a wonderful day and thank you in advance :)

Your glances are noticeable. Even when your gaze turns another way, darting anywhere but her when she caught you, it was noticeable. Terribly so. Perhaps she would be revolted with such gazes, disgusted when someone like you so much as breathed around her. But no. You were different. You set off a beat in her heart that she was unfamiliar with, one that she did not know.
Her plans to discard your corpse dwindled with each passing day, and a strange fondness came in its place. She was a lonely woman. Even as a creature of the night, she got lonely. She craved your presence at night, alone in her bed she craved it. She could hear your soft heartbeats echo in the castle walls, reverberating a sound she forgot so long ago, unaccustomed to a beating heart for hers ceased.
Carmilla thought to puncture her fangs into your pretty neck, to make you eternally hers. But that would be cruel, and perhaps you would think her selfish. But love is always selfish; the more ardent the more selfish. But alas, she was so terribly whipped.
Often times she longed to feel your fingers run over her cold skin, to feel your breath amidst her lips, to feel them touch her own.
So day by day she admired you in solace, the little things that kept her mind trailing back to you. She thought you a sorcerer, a witch that entranced her undead heart; but you were not. You were a mortal, a mere human who wedged your way into her mind. So for now, she would admire from afar, watching over you in secrecy, relishing in the warmth you brought her soul. She had all the time in the world, but you did not. Years passed like seconds to her, vampirism halting her lifespan, but around you time slowed down. Time slowed down to a point where she could breathe, admire the world around even if it was utter shit.
She wanted to be yours, you hers. She wanted to spend eons at your side, to hold your hands, to kiss your supple flesh. But now, she would be patient, she would wait. But her feelings did not-would not waver. Never, for she has loved no one and never shall, unless it would be with you.

hello :)) if it alright if i request for an avoidant reader with carmilla?
like whenever there are disagreements between them reader only chooses to sort of run away because thats their way of coping? im not quite sure how explain it but feel free to ignore this ask if you dont feel like it!! :) i hope you have a great day!
I love this! This is my first Carmilla ask! Sorry everyone I haven’t been writing school has been school but thank you to everybody being patient. P.s this came out so much longer then I realized
𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤
You and your vampire lover Carmilla had a complicated relationship. The fights you had never really got resolved, she simply waited till sunrise when you had to come back and then she showered you with expensive and luxurious gifts which included jewelry and clothes made from the fine fabrics. It’s hard to bring up the fight after that. Today you decided it was going to be different, you weren’t going come running into her arms again. It didn’t really even matter what started it, only thing that mattered to you was getting out. The room felt too hot and the hallways too cold, everything around you felt suffocating. As soon as the gates to the palace opened you ran, being a vampire has its perks. You had taken with you a small map and a cloak, as you traveled through the icy woods to the nearest village. You made it just as the sun was starting to rise, the man at the hostel gave you the keys to your room and you closed the curtains as soon as you closed the door. It was day time, so Carmilla couldn’t come looking for you. Obviously you were upset with her, she never apologized sometimes you wonder if she even knows how to. As the day got long you heard a knock, for a minute you thought it might be her but as you opened the door it was the same man from the front desk asking if you wanted food. You politely took the food, thanked him and closed the door. As soon as the door closed you put the plate down on the small writing desk, as the hours passed you glanced at it. Not like you could eat it but refusing could raise suspicions. Packing all the belongings in your cloak and you returned the keys to the man thanking him as you started to make way to the next town it was sundown, so Carmilla had just left so you had a limited amount of time. As you laid your eyes on the small gates of the village, your gaze also caught something a normal human couldn’t. You hurried your steps to the gate and as you walked through them you felt an arm grab you with supernatural force. “Where have you been” she whisper yelled. You didn’t have time to respond before you saw the claw marks on your arm. Ironically Carmilla saw them first, she put her hands on your other arm to soothe you but quickly put her hand back “i’m sorry” she quickly looked you in the eyes and then back at the ground with a frown on her face “not just for your arm but for the fight too” you didn’t respond, this was a new situation and you didn’t know how to “come back to the castle with me” she spoke with confidence as she always did but heard the underlying insecurity and fear in her voice, you took her hand with a comforting squeeze and a small smile you nudged her to start walking but not in a super natural speed way. ”We can say we were on a nature walk if they ask” you finally spoke. “I don’t think that will work, i told them everything when you didn’t come back last night”
