It looks like Meghan may be test-driving yet another narrative to handle the criticism about her failure to royal: it's all Harry's fault.

This started last week when reporters and journalists were speculating whether the Sussexes, had they stayed in, would have been able to help KP squash all the noise about Kate's condition and help BP squash the nosie about the royal family's bench strength by stepping up royal work. Hugo Vickers more or less said "no, because the Sussexes are only in it for themselves. Meghan wouldn't step up unless she personally benefited. She would have seen nothing in it for herself and would refuse to work."

So cue Esther Krakue, who appeared on Sky News Australia today. She agrees with Vickers that the Sussexes wouldn't have stepped up, but says it's because of Harry. Not Meghan. And the way she lays the blame squarely on Harry, she plays to both sides of the royal fence:

For the squaddies, she says "it's Harry's fault Meghan was a terrible royal because he made her start working before she was ready and willing."

For the rest of us, she says "Meghan lacked the temperament to be a proper royal because she wanted to be in charge and it's Harry's fault because he should have prepared her better."

That she speaks to both sides is making it a little harder to see whether this is Meghan setting up for a divorce narrative or whether this is an olive branch PR.

A quick disclaimer. I've no idea where Krakue falls in the royal reporting spectrum (is she a Sussex mouthpiece? Is she a straight-shooting royalist? Or does she go where the paycheck is?)

For me, I come down on "well, this feels like pre-emptive divorce narrative." Mainly because Meghan has been laying groundwork since 2017 for a domestic violence-based divorce narrative and "Harry forced Meghan to work" not only plays into that, it also implies he threatened Meghan.

Anyway. Here's the story.

And by the way, did you know this is the 11th time Meghan has tried to rewrite the story of her royal career? Let's review them!

#1. While they were dating/pre-engaged (2016 - late 2017): I’ll be the bestest duchess to duchess, better than Kate.

#2. While they were engaged (late 2017 - mid-2018): I’m going to hit the ground running and everyone will be so impressed The Queen will make me her heir.

#3. While “in” for 72 days (mid-2018 - late 2019): I’m only supporting my preferred charities and best friends, how dare you *coat flick*

#4. While Megxiting (late 2019 - March 2020): I don’t need the royals to do good work. They’re old-fashioned anyway. Watch me hit the ground running and being the bestest duchess to duchess.

#5. During the pandemic (March 2020 - March 2021): I’m not bound by the code of ethics the royals are so I can volunteer and support my most passionate causes, politics and political issues.

#6. While sobbing to Oprah (March 2020 - late 2021): I can’t do anything because Waity Katie gets all the help, attention, and money. I’m just a young black mother.

Next, Meghan loses control of the narrative as everyone shows up for the BRF after the Oprah interview, and even more so after Philip passes away. This collective effort establishes the narrative of Meghan's royal career as actually scornful "I should be getting paid for this" contempt (as summed up by Bower in 2021's Revenge). Meghan tries some things to backtrack over this but she just digs herself in deeper and deeper, leading to three competing narratives over Meghan's work--

a) “No one from the palace helped us, we had to do it all on our own because William and Kate were jealous and refused to let anyone help us.” (Sussexes)

b) “It’s your own fault. Harry should have better prepared you for the realities of royal life and actually, HERE ARE THE RECEIPTS, WE DID TRY TO HELP but you wanted your LA teams to do it instead.” (BRF and Royal Rota)

c) “She never wanted to work, she just wanted the fame and fortune, come on you people, it's so [bleeping] obvious." (The public and most royal watchers)

This lasts until the end of 2021 when Sunshine Sachs/Netflix/Spotify finally dig Meghan out through a few rounds of Olive Branch PR and Jubilee and Hollywood manifestations, leading to...

#8. While finally launching her Megxit career (end of 2021 to September 2022, The Queen’s passing): I’m finally doing the work I was promised I could do by the royal family. Look at what you could've had.

#9. After The Queen’s passing (October 2022 to end of 2022): I just wanted to work but they wouldn't let me do anything because they're jealous.

#10. During the Charles era (2023): I couldn’t do anything because the royals are racist.

And now, #11. Royal Health Crisis (January 2024): I never wanted to be a working royal, Harry made me and he didn’t prepare me appropriately.

TL;DR- Milgram is testing gender biases but not in the way people would like to believe. It is unreasonable for people who seem to want Kotoko to be innocent again to tie the change in opinion around her to misogyny. I'm somewhat sympathetic to people who do enjoy Kotoko as a character because it seems like they're becoming increasingly more panicked by others not as devoted to the character as they believe themselves to be seeing past the veneer and viewing Kotoko's behavior for the outcomes it creates instead of the catharsis it gives.

Though I understand that labeling people interrogating her behavior or questioning it as misogyny can help these individuals feel better and more secure in their opinion. I think it ultimately does little to benefit the character or the fandom in the long term. Instead, I believe it gives people who enjoy the character in different ways a bad impression of what fans of her character are like. Something that will ultimately lead to more quiet parties in the fandom projecting their disdain for Kotoko's fans on the character and using her trial as a way to let out those frustrations about these bad faith interpretations.

Comparing Futa and Kotoko is reasonable to an extent but making that comparison and just checking it off as misogyny is silly and reductionist. I feel people who want Kotoko to be Innocent for whatever reason could have a genuine discussion around the two forms of radicalization that both characters discuss. Highlight how Kotoko is just as much of victim of her environment as Futa is and home in on her more personable traits to better highlight her understated good qualities.

I don't fully believe Kotoko is an irredeemable character but how her well intentioned more vocal fans discuss her really highlights how dangerous it is to follow these sorts of people without question and how easy this sort of thing is to fall into.

Other than that, let's get started.

For all intents and purposes what is about to follow this sentence is fully intended as a joke about previous events and nothing more,

"If I see one more rabid Kotoko Innocent voter comparing "actually" interrogating her actions to misogyny I may-"

In all seriousness though, people who claim to be fans of Kotoko's may want to find a better defense for her actions before her trial starts. Instead of you know doing what people claiming to be Mu's fans did- Ignoring the problem while digging their hills in deeper and deeper. Everyone literally saw how that turned out.

Plus, from what it seems Kotoko may not be able to gaslight, gatekeep, girldictate her way out of this one and ignoring the ever growing signs of that isn't helpful in the long run.

I dislike Kotoko. I have done nothing to hide this. However, crying misogyny each time a woman's behavior is brought into question is in my opinion literally the definition of white woman tears. It does nothing to interrogate the underlying issues being brought up and the only purpose of using it is to lampshade the idea that something is amiss at all under the guise of discrimination taking place.

Men can be wrong, women can be wrong, nonbinary people can be wrong, intersex people can be wrong, demigender people can be wrong, agender people can be wrong, and genderfluid individuals can be wrong. Regardless of how one self-identifies based on gender, sexuality, ethnicity, nationality, or mental health wise everyone can be wrong, and everyone's actions can objectively be harmful.

No matter what people may say none of those characteristics is an excuse or justification for people causing harm. Crying gender discrimination is incredibly odd to me especially when taking the voting trends of Milgram into consideration. Milgram has specifically been testing these biases from the beginning. Something that has proven the opposite of this claim is true.

Saying things such as if X prisoner were male presenting instead of female or if X prisoner was female presenting instead of male, they'd be given more leniency is ultimately a weird back and forth talking point to me. Especially since we have a good amount of evidence to prove which statement is true and which one is not from the voting results along with the information Milgram has provided.

Because Milgram has done everything in its power to not only play on this bias but test it. From blatantly giving each of the prisoners a presentably opposite sex presenting counterpart,

To separating the prisoners into even groups of male presenting and female presenting. Even though the series canonically recognizes that there are more genders and have had characters make statements alluding to gender being a social construct.

So, if we look at the trial one results of each prisoner who has stated that someone who presents as the opposite gender as them is the most like their selves then we can see how gender has impacted the results,

In trial one Kazui did get a higher innocent verdict than Yuno but they were both Innocent/Forgiven. In comparison we can see despite being similar as they both stated they believed themselves to be Kotoko was Innocent/Forgiven by a large margin and Futa was Guilty/Unforgiven.

Then comparing Kotoko to the male she was expressly paired with is even worse.

Because as most know Mikoto had the largest Guilty/Unforgiven verdict of trial one. He was also beat up by Kotoko during his first trial interrogation for good reason. However, this goes into another gendered bias within Milgram. The only people Es has physically hit or have been hit during their interrogations are male or explicitly never referred to as female due to their age. Since the person he most recently hit was Amane who has been labeled as child by the not only the source material but the fandom at large.

No one has gone can't little girls do anything when it comes to Amane. No one has said can't we just support little girls being feral for Amane. At least not that I have seen. In fact people don't even like that certain individuals consider Amane's abuse when voting on her trial because they believe that either reduces her to just a victim (for some odd reason this was not an issue when taking Mu being bullied into consideration but is here) or is treating her like a child something she asked us not to do but Es speculated she wanted us to do within Amane's second voice drama.

Where's the justification of Amane's actions based on her gender, age, or the treatment she had to undergo like with Mu and Kotoko now? Because I'm not seeing anyone go as hard for her.

What makes this twenty something year old woman who to her own admission has never once faced persecution so special?

Sadly, children aren't considered to be men or women but just by the genderless term child. This means people don't have to think about complicated adult constructs when it comes to their rights. This conveniently leaves Amane out of this can't women/girls do anything because her story is about children rights. Something consistent Milgram voters have done a good job at highlighting a good deal of society doesn't believe children should have. Be it the right to make their own religious and medical decisions or taking agency over how they are treated by those older than them.

Milgram has gone out of its way to split the cast evenly between the most commonly recognized presented genders for a reason. It included characters of certain age ranges and stated or implied disabilities for a reason. Because when people are a certain age or have a certain diagnosis their gender and their thoughts on it cease to matter. They are only judged by their age or diagnosis. However, instead of talking about all these things people would rather use the social construct of gender for its most historically used weaponization of protecting the over privileged from taking accountability for their abuses.

The fact that people today still believe they can cry misogyny when it's simply convenient to them and that no one will go look at the evidence collected by the voting demographic that readily proves this to not be the case is wild to me.

This is why for me seeing people say if Kotoko were a man she'd have it easier is funny. One because Kotoko openly views femininity as a tool which she uses at her discretion so she's genderfluid or agender if anything. This is something she states in response to her first written interrogation questions. So, using the label woman as an excuse for her behavior is very Kotoko behavior of her fans but again just not actually helpful. Especially if I can just look back and go um that's not how Kotoko identifies all the time though and she alluded to so here.

Being genderfluid or agender does not make her any less of a woman of course. It just makes discussing her case based solely on her womanhood odd to me. Doing so ignores an extremely specific intricacy of the character that has been made known from the beginning. An intricacy I find to be a compelling and interesting aspect of her character. I could still judge her actions based on her womanhood but that's just not going to work to persuade me that she was right because I simply do not believe it's okay for anyone to get away with something based on their gender alone.

Recognizing her gender possibly being more fluid based upon her answer to the femininity question again doesn't change how I feel about Kotoko's behavior as a person. It's literally like cool gender I respect that your actions are still trash though.

Plus using her gender to compare her current circumstances to Futa's and saying there's a gender bias going on here is weird to me. Again, Futa was guilty trial one Kotoko was innocent. Futa has long term possibly permanent impairments due to the verdict he received. Something that was caused by Kotoko. Futa is a very tit for tat person and his first song displays through his lyrics that he used to stop after someone apologized while Kotoko's displays her mindset of an apology not being enough a mindset that Futa slowly develops into having over the course of Bring It On.

As displayed through this lyric,

"You won’t be forgiven, a coward, never!"

Milgram goes out of it's way to showcase how Futa and Kotoko are at different levels of radicalization. Alluding to the very real possibility that if Futa was affirmed during trial one he would be just as bad if not worse than Kotoko. Even Kotoko's answer in regard to him being the one she believes to be the most like her points this out.

"Though he’s also the person who resembles me the least."

She even spends most of trial one observing Futa and says this before his interrogation and trial.

20/09/18 (Futa’s First Trial)

Futa: Haa…… haa…… Ok……

Kotoko: What’s up, Futa. ……your breathing seems a bit uneven?

Futa: Huh!? I’m getting ready to fight. That guard is looking down on all of us……!

Kotoko: ……hmm. Is that so…… I’m looking forward to it. To seeing what your “justice” really is.

So, more than likely if Futa was voted Innocent alongside her he would've just ended up being indoctrinated by her instead. Since they both recognized the similarities, they had with one another but just wound up on opposite sides.

Also, Futa's verdict didn't change round two simply because he's a guy. It's because he made a reasonable case for himself that caused most of the audience to reflect upon their behavior as well as Futa's. Implying that it's just because Futa is a guy is not only demeaning to his characterization and the time people put into analyzing both his songs but-

Ignores the fact that people still believe his actions are unforgivable. Along with the fact, that a good deal that believe that actively defend/support Kotoko's behavior. Oh, yeah- And it blatantly ignores that the thing he was being persecuted for to begin with (the doxing) was slowly but surely proven not to be his fault at all. Something he'd been saying from the fucking beginning of trial two.

Futa: It wasn’t me. It wasn’t my fault. Like anyone would die from that normally! The one who spread it wasn’t me anyway.

In contrast to Mu where the idea of her being in the wrong was so heavily denied that once it was shown that she was many changed their opinion not because her actions were inexcusable but simply because they felt tricked. Even though as Milgram stated all the evidence of the prisoner's crimes were there to begin with if people were willing to look and many including myself tried to lighten knee-jerk reactions by bringing the possibility to attention before It's Not My Fault even released.

So, if Kotoko's defense is simply Mu's repackaged brand of God can't women do anything? Why would that be reasonable enough justification for the tangible damage we may be about to see Kotoko's actions cause. What if just like in Mu's case where we see her bullying her victim, we see Kotoko attacking those kids?

Will that defense of can't women do anything really be able to justify that sort of behavior? Well given Amane's tanking verdict being assigned female at birth may just be something the fandom considers a valid excuse for abusing children. I've seen so many people justify Amane's mother's behavior by saying she was indoctrinated too, it's hard to raise a child by oneself the father was always away, maybe she wasn't mentally well etc. Once again showing of that if a character is an adult woman, they're actions and the tangible harm they cause can be justified in a myriad of ways.

Unless they're Mahiru trial one and too conventionally feminine then the only way their behavior can be justified is if they're beat within an inch of their fucking life-

Mahiru's first trial was a case of god can't women do anything? This Is How To Be In Love With You was literally just her going around town and having fun we didn't even see anyone die and she got voted Guilty. For what because people found her personality clingy and obnoxious. Because she was far too traditionally feminine for people's liking. Yet, people want to cry misogyny for Kotoko.

The one who jumped Mahiru on very little information because it was solely based on a judgement Es made based on multiple assumptions that while not disproven were not all completely true.

Like she clearly wasn't a fucking stalker she knew this person and they were together that was clear from the fucking first song. Even during her second trial Mahiru didn't get the whole gendered excuse of can't women do anything as much as people are trying to force it on Kotoko. The focus was literally on her being injured to shit and getting harshly and hastily judged for literally just being hyper feminine.

Then the only way people could justify her actions in I Love You without taking that into consideration wasn't through engaging with her character fully and discussing her overly sheltered homelife mixed with a clear immense fear of abandonment and inadequacy which lead to unhealthy ways of seeking validation but by infantilizing her and calling her delusional. Something that if tied to her femininity would be inherently sexist.

Then we've been given an even greater example of the gender bias within the Milgram fandom through Yuno and Kazui during round two.

A situation that speaks for itself. Yuno says the person most like her is Kazui with no hesitation or doubt. Stating this about the both of them on her birthday,

"Haha, we both lie, don't we? The difference is the reason for lying. Kazui-san, you lie to protect yourself, because you're important to yourself. For me, no one is particularly important. That includes myself as well."

Bluntly stating that she lies but unlike Kazui who has a reason for her lies she has none. As Yuno has made clear from the beginning, there is no justification for her actions. She doesn't view them as good or bad but as things she just wanted to do. Which is why she's only gotten increasingly upset by the audience attaching justifications to her choices because to her that may just remove the weight of those things being her choices.

She doesn't wish to have these labels attached to her behavior or excuses being made for what she did. She'd much rather beg to be forgiven herself if it came to that than have people that know nothing about her make assertions about her life and reasoning.

Because what's important to Yuno is being true to herself and she doesn't have to care about anyone even herself to just do what she wants to do.

Instead of interacting with that more difficult to grasp part of her character people decided to simplify her once again. Because viewing characters one enjoys as just one thing is simple, it's fun. It's not challenging or messy. Because no one has to bother with those strange technicalities or hypocrisies. They can just sit back and enjoy themselves.

If things are simple, then everyone will have fun. If things are simple, then you won't have to be bothered. If things are simple, then people can still dream. If it's simple, then an apology can just solve everything. It it's simple then it can be put in a way anyway can understand and everyone will want to listen. If it's simple, then you can tell how your life is meant to be but most importantly if it's simple it can still feel good.

Life isn't simple, judging people isn't simple, punishing people isn't simple, looking at things for what they are isn't simple. Because the truth is objective it won't always feel good. Yet, looking away from it in order to spare one's own ego does nothing but allow people's self-induced ignorance the opportunity to grow into someone else's pain.

I’m the anon who wrote that your post resonated with my observation/intuition. I thought I would send in a lengthy list of things I think may be going on behind the scenes. These things may “fit” with your reading:

1) Harry has massively betrayed William and Catherine. From the Oprah interview to the accusation of physical assault in his book to gossip/lies planted in the press, he has inflicted enormous pain on them and William has actually lost his brother. In addition to losing his mother in tragic circumstances, over the last few years he has grieved two grandparents and his brother.

2) Years ago, Charles wanted to find a solution to appease the Megxit half-in/half-out demands. William and the Queen were in agreement this was not viable and chose to preserve the monarchy over Harry’s feelings. Charles wants Harry back. He has very little to no real concern for William and Catherine. It’s only about him and what he envisioned his reign would look like. I also agree with another anon that there is a triangulation layer to this.

3) Action to neutralize the threat that is Harry was postponed while the Queen was ill and grieving. It was William’s expectation that action would be taken after her death. Instead, Charles has flipped the script and wants to reverse the Megxit decision.

4) Neutralizing Harry would involve releasing dirt from Harry’s past that would end him. Charles will not do it because he covered the dirt at the time, so his reputation would also suffer badly. William wants it all out. Charles wants to keep it all hidden. It troubles William because he doesn’t want to go along with further cover ups. He feels it threatens the monarchy and his reputation as well. This is out of his control, and it causes him stress.

5) Planning for the coronation brought many huge disagreements, with Charles using demands, guilt, and manipulation in private and in the press to try forcing William into agreement on Harry’s full involvement. There was a compromise, but Charles was not satisfied.

6) William accepts Charles making Camilla queen but he doesn’t like it. The whole situation is sordid, and he has had to go along with things he felt compromised his mother’s legacy. Don’t underestimate Camilla and her intentions.

7) Charles invited William to Birkhall to dine with him the night after the Queen’s death. He told him there he would be making him Prince of Wales immediately. This was intended as a “gift,” even though it benefitted Charles and withholding it would have been ludicrous. The gift had strings attached. He expected William to go along with him in all his plans and priorities. So whenever William resists, he can think or say “What more could you want? You’re ungrateful. I’ve given you everything!” That is not true, as he hasn’t given loyalty or support, but it’s how Charles sees things.

8) Those plans and priorities include increasing the popularity and public adoration of King Charles and Queen Camilla, and the expectation is that the Waleses will use their public image to aid in this effort. Charles wants them to join themselves to him publicly. He wants continual endorsement from William (the coronation oath wasn’t enough for him) as well as “happy family” PR. But Charles has a lot of skeletons in his closet and William is wise to keep their public images separate.

9) Aside from the expectation that William will aid Charles and Camilla’s PR, there’s also the expectation that he will support and help in bringing Harry back. What you said about Travalyst and Earthshot is unfortunately plausible. I also believe that Charles feels the Duchy of Cornwall offers enough funding for William to share with Harry. He supports his siblings with the Duchy of Lancaster and wants William to support Harry financially. William will not, for many reasons.

10) Charles is not happy about handing over the Duchy of Cornwall to William. He feels personally offended with every decision William makes that isn’t exactly as he did things.

11) There are some very messy courtiers in Charles’s household.

That’s about it. I’m sorry for the length. Charles is focused on his and Camilla’s popularity and legacy as well as his “darling boy” Harry’s return. There are currently enormous threats to the monarchy, and they concern and stress William very much, but Charles’s personal feelings, desires and ideals trump everything. “I am KING!”

Only time will tell if the monarchy survives this.

Thank you for coming back and explaining all your thoughts. I agree with a lot of them. Harry has betrayed his family, Charles was appeasing them for quite some time (I'm not sure of the current state of affairs), the BRF has been effective in greyrocking Harry but have been reluctant to release dirt on him or on Meghan, Charles does seem to be focused on increasing his and Camilla's popularity, and he does seem to expect William to not only welcome Harry back but to support Harry and his family financially, etc and so on.

I think that the monarchy will survive this, if only because the alternative is so involved and a lot of work, but I do wonder what sort of reputation it will have by the time the crown is passed on to William. I think he will have to do a lot of work on repairing things before he can start to build his legacy as King, so I expect his reign to have a slow and rocky start, simply because of how it will be left by King Charles III. I hope I am wrong, but I just can't see King Charles passing on the feelings of respect and affection for the crown that he inherited from his mother, the late Queen. I don't see him as having her sense of duty, and it was her sense of duty that enabled the crown to be held in such solid respect and affection when she passed.

As an anon said in the past, if I were Chris, I would be really concerned about someone apparently from my inner social circle leaking info to blogs about my private matters such as wedding and house. If someone is actually leaking his info, he really should reevaluate his friends and the people he lets into his life (but well, he basically allowed a racist, antisemitic into his life so he clearly isn’t very smart when it comes to that). If the house is his I still don’t feel like he would live there and the decoration doesn’t seem to be his style (or even Alba’s style but she probably doesn’t care about anything as long as she keeps getting attention and we know she molds herself to what benefits her the most). If this house has the name of his trustee, does that automatically make it his? I don’t think Chris is the only client they have. Also, I read some people saying that the Carlisle house was bought by him in 2018 according to Tara’s page? She more than anyone should protect the privacy of her friend but she’s an attention seeker too so I don’t really have much faith in her.

I also don’t know why would Chris want to have pics of his house in a magazine like AD and then hold back because of “keeping his privacy”, he knows very well what would happen if he did that feature for AD so I don’t buy that shit either. L&D lying about the location seems weird to me too, because the damage has already been done since the beginning of this shitshow, why would they try to “protect” anything now? And if they lie that clearly shows how unprofessional they are and that they only care about the attention as well.

Sorry for the long rant but like everything else in this “happy and healthy relationship” seems the opposite and with a lack of sense

For now, this is the last ask I share about the Carlisle house. Some people in my inbox are going crazy over this topic. Not even their alleged wedding caused whatever this is.

We actually talked about this with a good friend of mine yesterday and how having those addresses on that site is really unsafe. I guess it works for her as a portfolio, but still. She could have all the other details but the address. I think she should've already removed it. However, I still have a hard time believing that anybody from his circle comes to Tumblr to share information about his personal matters, such as his wedding, for example. I always say this and will continue to repeat it, that even DM said that his circle is very tight and that she never really has anything on him or gets info. If somebody from his circle wanted to leak something, they wouldn't come to Tumblr. Neither would Justin. If they decided to betray him, they would want to do that on a bigger level. If somebody comes here and shares legit information about him or his personal life, I'd rather say that's his team, or if it's even somebody closer to him, they do it to plant something; they do it for PR reasons. A lot of rumors start here, but if somebody would leak something or do something to harm him, and not to help sell a narrative, they would go somewhere else, not here.

I also don't think that house is really his style, and I also doubt he would want to move into such a big house. The other MA one isn't one he is currently living in.

My very good friends explained to me that all the houses are owned by the same company but by different trusts.

If this whole thing was about "protecting privacy," having an AD article wouldn't have even crossed his mind. So they did the whole photoshoot, the whole interview, or whatever, and then he was like "Nah, I'd rather have my privacy with this one". I don't think that's how it works. And again, saying "privacy" and "Chris" in the same sentence is, at least for now, ridiculous. Since Alba is in the picture, somehow everything involving her has lost the privilege of being private.

Interestingly, this is the first time L&D cared about the mean comments and DMs they got because of Chrisba. This was definitely not the first time I saw them receive hateful comments because of them, and they clearly didn't seem to care about it, and now suddenly they even changed the location because of that. I don't really think that the privacy and hateful comments/DM explanations are working here right now.

And I'd like to ask everybody not to go to L&D's page and leave hateful comments or send hateful DMs. It's inappropriate; it's a bad thing to do. Leave them be.

What do you think of the idea that this was PR for SNTV so that everyone would be paying attention to the Nash shows?

oof. okay, first of all, and this isn't aimed at you anon, but everyone has gotten way too comfortable using the term "PR" inappropriately, to the point where it's meaningless, because you get people online saying everything they see ever is PR when that's simply not the case and a lot of things are just...humans living life who happen to do so in the public eye. but the whole point of the concept there is some benefit. this is not an instance where there's benefit of publicity - trolling potential aside, because that would serve a different purpose - all eyes are already on her.

she knows fans pay attention to the shows every week (even the ones like me who aren't viewing the livestreams! i read along with the updates as they happen but haven't watched, others might check in the next day due to time zones or busy schedules, and so on), no matter what we all know what happens and what surprise songs she plays and what she might've said, and we know very quickly. every entertainment and music outlet is paying attention. an album announcement would make spectacular noise and immediately be reported no matter what.

furthermore, stoking romance/personal rumors, if anything, takes *away* from the announcement, it doesn't add to it - hence the internet being in a dither about matty rather than only being focused on excitement over SNTV. why on earth would she intentionally court speculation and rumor that distracts from an important project? moreover, why with someone who undeniably would be controversial and cause anger/annoyance? how does that help her? (answer: it's irrelevant to her if she likes him.) i'd be slightly inclined to think it was a silly joke for the sake of 1989 TV and a potential collab if she'd announced that album instead, but everything about the optics, especially given very recent events and history, has such overwhelming negative downsides with really no upsides as far as press and reactions go. so PR for SNTV specifically makes very little sense to me, versus her being in a do-whatever-i-want-with-whoever-i-want moment (which, let's be real, is not out of character).

it's either a (perhaps ill-timed and unclear) bit of shenanigans between chaotic friends or it's...whatever it is, and we're going to be living with that rebound reality for a bit. he took a very long trip to get to a hometown show for her...we're gonna have to face what that means, particularly after not seeing the person we thought we should have seen on opening night. i didn't want to read into that absence before, but unfortunately information is now what it is. (me @ mr. bowery: you should've been there! you should've burst through the door with that, "baby, i'm right here" smile!)

the announcement of SNTV would've happened last night no matter what, i'd lay odds she's had that planned for the first night of nashville for quite a while. the matty of it all is a wrinkle, not a boost. the only thing i hope is that it doesn't have any negative ramifications for her (not necessarily in the press, but in her personal life. having fun is fine, i just don't want her to be hurt anymore than what's already happened, you know?).

ultimately, what we all have to remember is that boundary - we don't know her directly. we have no say or influence over her decisions or personal life. that doesn't mean we have to like them, but we have zero input into her making those choices. all we can continue to do is what we already do, support her artistry, wish her the best, and cherish her music.

When Opposites Attract, part 1... maybe perhaps

The devil finds work for idle hands... and what with only having one client at the moment and finally reaching Gundam Seed’s episode 23, what is it with episode 23 being my fave in JJK and GS? well...

It’s time to brainrot about one of my favorite relational dynamics in animanga...

So.... basically don’t mind me while I ramble about asucaga... one of my og OTPs.

Also, if anybody does read this and is wondering...

Yes, I did watch episode 23 three times... and counting. I had to do research and take screencaps ok?!

Yes, I squealed internally several times... probably still am.

Yes, we’re going to ignore the extensive amounts of plot armor that is just as thick as Gundanium Alloy.

And yes, I loved every. single. fucking. minute of Athrun and Cagalli’s interaction.

This isn’t mental gymnastics... this is nit picking... obsessing about what it means for two characters to come together and how that changes them.

In the end, shipping is at its core about seeing a relational dynamic (ship) in fiction and being inspired by it. And one of my favorite things about Gundam Seed was seeing how two separate wholes came together in the way that Athrun and Cagalli came together.

Athrun as Yin--the passive principle

Athrun, is both “not just another Quiet and Aloof Deuteragonist-kun”, and at the same time “your typical expression of his trope”.

Dark hair, green eyes, introverted, kind, superior intelligence... the whole 9 yards.

Athrun is his trope to a T. And yet, there’s also something ethereal and dreamy about him.

In melodrama, characters are typically clichéd stereotypes. But I have to say that the characters in Gundam Seed are fleshed out beyond their character trope.

What makes the characters in Gundam Seed unique are the details in the way their individual personalities are expressed.

For Athrun, he looks to me like he’s very much written as an expression of water sign traits--he is a Scorpio by birth after all. He is ethereal, dreamy, mysterious, highly emotional and yet simultaneously emotionally closed off to most people or aloof.

And yet, despite his Introverted and introspective personality as defined by his water sign, Athrun navigates his world with cold logic. To me, his ease and interest in mechanical objects like the Haros and Torii speak to his mastery of logic and mechanics.

Athrun is also a kid whose mother’s death scarred him and who has let his father control his fate. From what I remember, he’s also been a soldier most of his life. So at the core of his character arc there is a need to tap into his (most irrational) emotions, and to learn to think for himself in a way that takes into consideration not just logic, but also what his heart wants.

Another aspect that defines Athrun is how his personality has also been shaped by the war because of what he has seen and the horrors he has probably lived through. Something that is hinted at in episode 23.

Finally, Athrun is an elite soldier and he knows that about himself. Up to episode 23 in Gundam Seed, he had used his genetically engineered superior abilities to fight for Zaft’s sake.

Zaft no Tameni.

But that’s only because he had not stopped to think like the opposing camp.

Cagalli as Yang--the active principle

And then there’s Cagalli.

Oh God. Where do I even start with Cagalli?

Stereotypically, Cagalli is first and foremost a tomboy. She is rough around the edges, strong-willed and edgy. Unlike the other females in the series, Cagalli is perfectly happy as someone who prefers guns over make up.

She also appears to be more outgoing, boisterous and extroverted than Athrun.

But I think that one of the things that define Cagalli even more than the “tomboy” trope is the fact that she is, literally, a Princess. However, Cagalli is not your average Disney Princess waiting to be rescued. Instead she uses her power, privilege and influence for the benefit of causes she believes in, hence earning herself the title “Goddess of Victory”.

As a Princess, however, she’s also entitled, bossy, and unaware of her privilege to a certain extent.

Like this little girl basically forced herself onto a military ship even though the captain was totally against it. Total #Gundanium Alloy moment.

One of the things I love about Cagalli is that she has this overconfidence about herself that is also very Princess-like. How to explain... I headcanon Cagalli probably lived a very sheltered life as a Princess, and so she doesn’t truly understand the despair of a war-thorn world and how that shapes people. This only makes her choice to fight for those in less privileged positions than hers all the more impressive.

But unlike Athrun and real soldiers who have seen the horrors of war, even if Cagalli has seen terrible things, Cagalli has a body guard with her at all times whose job is to risk his life to protect her. She is sheltered.

Also, as a side note, he doesn’t do a very good job of it lol. I would fire him if I was Cagalli’s dad. But I get the sense the bodyguard guy kind of gave up on trying to convince Cagalli not to get into crazy situations because Cagalli is going to do what Cagalli wants to do because she’s a fucking Princess.

Other than that, I think it’s very important to Cagalli’s character that she’s free to be herself and choose her own destiny. In the end, Cagalli chooses to fight for what she thinks is right and chooses what causes she espouses.

And I think this is where Cagalli and Athrun meet in the middle--fighting for what they believe is right.

Fighting for what is right--two opposing perspectives

One of the things that I loved about episode 23 the most is that this is when the idea “that conflict is the result of a lack of communication” gets presented--this is when the two opposing sides finally decide to sit down and talk.

These two kids met each other under #Gundam Alloy type circumstances that plot armor is thick but wtv because I love asucaga and I am glad they met and kept blaming each other until they both came to the realization that this blaming game was taking them nowhere.

Just back and forth...

Well I did this because you did that.

Well I did that because you did this.

Two opposing perspectives at war with each other.

Theirs is a conversation about opposing versions of the “truth” and how when the two opposites come together a new truth can be unveiled if both parties are able and willing to meet in the middle.

Literally. Athrun and Cagalli introduce into GS the idea that senseless war is simply the result of two opposing sides unwilling to listen to the other and meet in the middle.

Athrun and Cagalli represent the movement in this new direction for the plot where characters start to question more openly what it is they fight for.

But before Athrun and Cagalli get to this point where they get to explore their opposing perspectives, chemistry had already worked its magic. Without this chemistry, there would be no impetus that would bind two opposites together.

Let’s ship it!

Mwahaha. Ok, time to ship it.

When Athrun and Cagalli first encounter each other its under the threat of attack. Cagalli is pointing a gun at him and all he has is a knife.

The moment that changes everything is when Athrun turns the tables on her and discovers that Cagalli is a girl.

I think in this scene there is a combination of Athrun’s reluctance to get a civilian involved in a war conflict and his own humanity taking precedence over how she is physically weak compared to him, not just for being a woman, but also because she’s a Natural.

In the end, Athrun is shown to be a very kind and considerate person time and time again and this is an example of it.

Also Cagalli getting annoyed because she gets confused for a boy is so funny.

It is after this moment when the walls start come down for both of them.

On the one hand, I imagine Athrun realized just how defenseless Cagalli is despite her bravado, hardly a threat; while on the other hand, Cagalli realized this Zaft soldier is just as human as she is.

And I just adore this moment so much because despite the large amounts of Gundanium Alloy present in Gundam Seed, this moment and the way Athrun and Cagalli relate to one another is so... real?

Athrun telling Cagalli to tone it down with her Princess attitude is so... amazing? Up until now no one has really stood up to her and she typically gets what she wants--again, as an example, she boarded the Archangel against the Captain’s wishes.

And then... the crabs happen.

With crab #1 we have a moment of comic relief that invited them to relax, to lay down their defenses once and for all so that they could see the human in front of them more clearly.

It’s really lovely to be able to see how they are both more at ease around each other because of this seemingly insignificant moment.

I have to wonder what is going through Athrun’s mind as he sees Cagalli continue to do as she pleases, completely at ease with herself even though they are “enemies” and she should be weary of him.

This is one of those moments where the writers showed both Athrun’s and Cagalli’s personalities beautifully.

On the one hand you have Athrun as he looks on from a distance in typical Scorpio fashion. His introspective nature speaking a thousand words without saying a single one of them. What we do know is that he is so moved by what he sees to the point that he removes the ties around her hands and feet--a completely irrational choice.

Symbolically, Athrun gives Cagalli back her freedom because even if she’s tied down, Cagalli’s will is untamable, something Athrun notices about her.

As for Cagalli, she is just enjoying herself. She too is at ease with Athrun around and is able to be her usual carefree self. Another thing about Cagalli I didn’t mention earlier is that she’s a Taurus. So there’s a sense of her sensuality being expressed in this moment as she enjoys the feeling of rain washing over her.

Then, with crab #2 we have a glimpse at a couple more details.

For one, I think its easy to think of Athrun as Quiet and Aloof Deuteragonist-kun, but his mischievous and playful side shines through in this brief interaction when he teases Cagalli (thanks to this article for pointing out this fun detail).

As for Cagalli, it shows how care free and oblivious she is about the feminine beauty and sensuality that lies beneath the surface--which Athrun clearly very much liked.

Even though I feel like it’s more realistic for a teenager to continue to stare, I like what this scene says about Athrun being a respectful young man.

Then, when they move into the cave the issue of “ease” comes up. Cagalli taunts Athrun, telling him that she could take his gun from him and that he should be warier of her and take her more seriously.

Athrun, however, is highly aware that he’s an elite soldier with superior physical abilities and is completely unphased by her threat.

I think, if anything, Athrun is also aware that he’d be saddened if the situation escalated in such a way to where he would have to hurt her.

Athrun then falls asleep, showing once again how at ease he feels around her.

But this is Cagalli we’re talking about and if she had another middle name it would be “impulsive”. So she goes for the gun and then after an emotional exchange throws it on the ground in a bit of a temper tantrum.

And of course, because of the Gundanium Alloy, the gun fires when it hits the ground and the bullet barely hurts Athrun. The writers just really wanted a shirtless Athrun.

I love Athrun’s reaction in all of this because he’s not afraid to tell Cagalli to drop the Princess attitude. Seriously, who throws a loaded gun like that?

But... the best part in all of this is that Cagalli wants to meets him in the middle.

And despite his reluctance, for the first time the audience gets to see Athrun take his armor completely off and open up. Both in the figurative way and in the fanservicey way.

This isn’t just physical proximity, but rather Athrun allowing someone else to not only meet him in the middle in his pain, but also to tend to that pain.

And as they say their respective goodbyes and exchange names, so do they acknowledge each other’s humanity despite being in opposite camps.

The only original person (a MAN-of course) who was attached the original version of the spinoff and still has HIS job, goes against AMC and their official statement to spin amd have the audicity to speak for Melissa "wanting a break" and everyone's like, sure okay, that's cool. Nothing to see here! Just tie the scandal up in a pretty little bow and get excited for his show with Rick! Nah. I have no more shits to give about any of this.

I'm 1000% positive that literally every single word he said is coming directly from AMC. Their PR exec is unbelievable lol. Like... literally half of the shit that went down would not have happened if they had just said "the reason mmb dropped out is bc she needed a break".

My theory which seems like is shared by most of us is that Melissa understandably wanted a break, amc said lol nope we gotta ride this gravy train so hop on or get outta the way, and she "decided to step back" (lol). Idk what happened w Kang, but it's extremely suspicious and the fact that she was replaced w a white dude w no connection to twd is... not great to say the least.

As for Norman I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt tbh. If Melissa actually did "step back" then it makes sense that he would THEN ask to film where his family is. I also think ride is shooting there anyway so amc was probably like great! 2 for 1. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he was like "I don't rly wanna do this without melissa" and amc was like "lol too bad you have to since you're our dancing monkey"

Honestly I think the statement about location was an attempt to blame mmb AND Norman for going daryl-only. If they said "mmb needed a break so she's no longer on the spinoff" then we would be like (as we are now) "Uh then give her a break?! It doesn't need to happen right now?!" But they wanted the fans to turn on Melissa, Norman and Kang and ignore amcs fuckery, which is exactly what happened. Good thing we're seeing the light and the we ain't ashes collective is leading the cause 💗

Amc is responsible for this mess. Not Melissa, not Norman, not Kang, not ANYONE except the execs who like to jack off to piles of money and besides, what's a little institutionalized misogyny if it means they can squeeze every last cent out of their fans?

We gotta keep our eyes on the real target. Norman's doing what he's legally expected/supposed to do. If he says something that's not amc approved he can be held legally liable since I'm sure they have him on an NDA that's 900 pages long. It's not his fault and if he did get the location he asked for AFTER mmb "decided to step down" (lol) then honestly, good for him. Maybe that will ensure he's recharged and not in need of a break when the caryl spinoff finally happens (lol) (trying to be positive)

THE COMPANIONS OF THE PROPHET (PBUH) : Ali bin Abi Talib (r.a.)

Hz. Ali was the son of Abu Talib, the paternal uncle of the Prophet. Abu Talib brought up the Prophet and took care of him for a long time though he was poor. He would not let anyone from his family start eating before Hz. Muhammad came to the table. He knew through experience that Hz. Muhammad was a source of abundance.

After marrying Hz. Khadijah, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) brought Hz. Ali to his house and took care of him in order to pay his debt of gratitude and to relieve him of his burden. Hz. Ali was only 4 or 5 years old then. Thus, he spent his childhood under the supervision of the Prophet.

When the Prophet was assigned the duty of prophethood, Hz. Ali was 10 years old. The honor of believing him first was attained by Hz. Khadijah among women and Hz. Ali among children.

Once, Hz. Ali saw Hz. Prophet and Hz. Khadijah performing a prayer and started to watch them admiringly. When the prayer ended, he did not hide his admiration and asked the Prophet in a childish manner:

"What were you doing?" The Prophet said:

"O Ali! This is the religion that Allah likes. I invite you to believe in Allah, who is one. I ask you to avoid worshipping idols which bring no benefits or harms."

Upon this offer, Hz. Ali said:

"I need to consult my father, Abu Talib."

However, the Prophet had not been ordered to declare his cause yet. He did not want it to be heard. He said,

"O Ali! Either accept what I offer you, or do not tell anybody about it if you do not accept it."

Hz. Ali spent that night thinking about it. In the morning, he went to the Messenger of Allah and said to him in a manner that could not be expected from a child:

"Allah did not ask Abu Talib when He created me; so, why should I consult my father to worship Allah?"

With these words, Hz. Ali got the honor of becoming a believer by showing the maturity of a person brought up by the Messenger of Allah.

After that, Hz. Ali followed the Messenger of Allah like a shadow. However, his parents were worried about him lest something bad should happen to him. However, when Abu Talib listened to the Messenger of Allah, he acknowledged him to be right. Abu Talib was not a Muslim but he did not object to his son being a Muslim. As a matter of fact, when his wife became worried that the polytheists could torture him, he said to her:

"If my soul allowed me to leave the religion of Abdulmuttalib, I would accept the religion of Muhammad. For, he is lenient, trustable and pure." [ Sirah, 1: 262-264. ]

Hz. Ali had never worshipped idols. He always hated them. He never left the Prophet during the period of Makka. During the Migration, he fulfilled a very important duty by lying in the bed of the Prophet.

Before the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) left Makkah with Hz. Abu Bakr, he asked Hz. Ali to lie in his bed that night. The Prophet gave the things had been entrusted to him to Hz. Ali. He told Hz. Ali to migrate to Madinah after delivering them to their owners.

The polytheists surrounded the house of the Messenger of Allah. They started to wait for the Prophet to come out of the house from the places where they were hiding when it started to get light. For, according to the traditions of that time, it was regarded as cowardice to kill a person in his house.

The Messenger of Allah made Hz. Ali lie in his bed and left the house. He picked up a handful of soil and threw it at the polytheists and he passed before them by reading the first eight verses of the chapter of Yasin. None of the polytheists saw him.

The polytheists were still waiting. After a while, they thought that the Prophet might have left. They looked through the window of the Prophet's house. They thought the person in the bed (Hz. Ali) was the Prophet. They said, "Muhammad is there, sleeping" and kept waiting.

When it became the morning, they could not wait any longer and entered the house. They were astonished when they saw Hz. Ali in the bed. They asked him where the Prophet was but he did not answer. They did not insist on asking him very much; they did not want to lose time so they sent men around to look for him.

Hz. Ali left the house and delivered the things that had been entrusted to the Prophet to their owners. Three days later, he also set off for Madinah. After a long and tiring journey, he arrived in Madinah. The soles of his feet were torn and swollen. When the Prophet saw the sorrowful state of Hz. Ali, he could not help crying. Then, he wiped under the feet of Hz. Ali and prayed Allah for his recovery. At that moment, his feet got well and his pains ended. [ Tabaqat, 8: 18. ]

The most distinguished quality of Hz. Ali was his courage. He displayed examples of his courage in all of the battles he took part.

For instance, when the polytheists attacked with the intention of killing the Prophet during the Battle of Uhud, Hz. Ali was one of those who tried to protect him by forming a wall of flesh. At one moment, a group of polytheists started move toward the Prophet. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) ordered Hz. Ali to confront them. Hz. Ali attacked them and scattered them. He killed one of them. Soon, another group attacked. The Prophet ordered Hz. Ali to confront them again. Hz. Ali killed Shayba bin Malik among them.

Thereupon, Jibril came to the Prophet and said:

"O Messenger of Allah! What Hz. Ali did is great heroism and bravery." The Prophet said,

"He is of me and I am of him", appreciating Hz. Ali. Jibril said,

"I am of both of you." Meanwhile, the following was heard from the sky:

"There is no hero like Ali and there is no sword like Dhul-Fiqar."

Hz. Ali was knocked down a few times by the polytheists during the Battle of Uhud but he was helped by Jibril to stand up each time. [ Tabari, 3: 177. ]

The conquest of Khaybar turned out to be very difficult because Khaybar was a town consisting of strong castles built on volcanic land. Most of the Jews exiled from Madinah lived there. While the siege was going on, the Messenger of Allah once said:

"I am going to give the standard to such a person tomorrow that Allah and His Messenger love him and he loves Allah and His Messenger. Allah is going to realize the conquest through him."

Upon this statement, the mujahids started to wonder about that person. Who was going to have this honor? Most of the Companions wanted to attain this honor. One of them was Hz. Umar. He said, "I had never wanted to be the commander so much before. I waited hoping that I would be called."

Everybody was looking forward to the morning. Finally, it was the expected moment. The Prophet said,

"Bring me the standard." They brought the standard. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) asked,

"Where is Ali?" Hz. Ali came but his eyes were in pain, The Messenger of Allah wiped Hz. Ali's eyes with his blessed hand. Then, he prayed Allah as follows:

"O Allah! Eliminate the troubles of the heat and cold from Ali. Then, he said:

"Walk until Allah makes the conquest easy for you." Hz. Ali, whose pains were relieved, proceeded to his target. [ Muslim, Fadail as-Sahaba: 33-34. ]

Hz. Ali planted the white standard of the Messenger of Allah in front of the Castle of Khaybar. Meanwhile, Marhab, who was accepted as a strong and brave person, came out of the castle with his men. He was wearing double armors and had two swords. He shouted,

"I can kill even lions with my sword and spear." Hz. Ali said:

"My mother gave me the name 'Khaydar'. I am as brave as the most majestic lions in the jungle. I will not let you live; I will knock you down."

In the one on one struggle, Hz. Ali split Marhab, the strongest man of the Jews, into two with his sword. When the Messenger of Allah saw this incident, he said,

"Rejoice! The conquest of Khaybar got easier."

Thereupon, all mujahids attacked the castle and conquered it. Hz. Ali removed the gate of the castle, which was very heavy, and used it as a shield. When the battle ended, he put the gate on the ground. Eight people could not lift it. [ Insanu’l-Uyun, 2: 737-738; Tabaqat, 2: 110-112. ]

Hz. Ali took part in all battles with the Prophet except Tabuk. The reason why he did not take part in that battle was that the Prophet left him as his deputy in Madinah.

It was very difficult for Hz. Ali, who was a hero, to be away from the army of jihad. He said,

"O Messenger of Allah! Are you leaving me among women and children?"

Thereupon, the Prophet said,

"Do you not want to act as my deputy just like Aaron, who acted as the deputy of Moses? There is only one difference: there are no prophets after me."

After this statement of the Prophet's, Hz. Ali felt relieved and remained in Madinah as his deputy. [ Muslim, Fadail as-Sahaba: 31. ]

One of the most outstanding qualities of Hz. Ali was his sincerity. His aim in everything was the consent of Allah. When his soul and feelings became involved in something, he would abandon it at once

Hz. Ali based all of his deeds on taqwa. He advised other people taqwa, too. He stated the following regarding the issue:

"Pay attention to taqwa and use it as a means of acceptance for your deeds in the eye of Allah. Worship performed with taqwa is never regarded as little. Can accepted deeds be little?"

Hz. Ali believed that tawakkul and showing consent to qadar was the source of happiness and said:

"A person who does not show consent to qadar cannot feel the flavor of belief. Whether a person shows consent to his qadar or not, that thing will happen to him. If he shows consent to what Allah predestined for him, he will gain rewards; if he does not, he will be a sinner."

Hz. Ali was one of the Companions who benefited from the Prophet the most regarding every issue. The Prophet stated the following in order to express the greatness of his knowledge:

"I am the city of knowledge and Ali is the door of the city of knowledge. Those who want to learn knowledge should enter through that door." [ Tirmidhi, Manaqib: 20. ]

Hz. Ali knew the science of the Quran very well. He knew very well where, why and for whom each verse was sent down. Once he addressed a large group of people as follows:

"Ask me. I will answer each question you ask me. Ask me about the Book of Allah. I swear by Allah that there is no verse that I do not when (at night or during the day) and where (on the mountain or plain) it was sent down." [ Tabaqat, 2: 338. ]

Hz. Hasan and a year later Hz. Husayn was born out of this blessed marriage. This made the Prophet very happy. Hz Prophet loved his grandsons very much. He carried them on his shoulders. He said the following about them:

"They are my two basils that I kiss and smell in this world." [ Tirmidhi, Manaqib: 31. ]

Once Hz. Hasan and Husayn became ill. Hz. Ali and Hz. Fatima vowed to fast for three days if their beloved children got well. When Allah Almighty restored them to health, they started to perform fasting. In the evening, when it was time for iftar, they had only one piece of bread to eat. Just then, an orphan arrived. They gave the bread to the orphan and they broke their fast with only water. On the second and third days, a poor man and a slave arrived. They gave their food to them. They became very weak because of not eating anything three days on end. In the morning, they went to the presence of the Messenger of Allah with their children. Their pale faces attracted the attention of the Prophet. He said,

"O Ali! What is the matter with you?"

Hz. Ali told him what had happened. Meanwhile, Jibril arrived and revealed verses 5 to 10 of the chapter of al-Insan:

"As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur― A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan and the captive― (Saying) "We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord,"

When the Prophet informed them about the revelation, they became so happy that they forgot the fatigue of the three-day hunger. [ Usdul-Ghaba, 5: 530-531; Tafsiru’l-Kabir, 30: 244. ]

After the martyrdom of Hz. Uthman, there was a lot of disorder going around. The rebels offered a lot of people to become the caliph but nobody accepted. Nobody wanted to be the caliph at such a time. Eventually, in order to prevent the disorder from spreading, the people of Madinah agreed to offer Hz. Ali to become the caliph. Hz. Ali did not want to accept it but he had to accept this heavy responsibility in order to stop the disorder and mischief.

The problems that Hz. Ali would face were abundant. First, he sent the governors that he appointed to all of the cities. All of the governors that he appointed were able people in terms of administration. He trusted his governors. He gave them some advice before he sent them. His advice always had the same liveliness. For instance, the advice he gave to Malik, the governor of Egypt, was very instructive:

"O Malik! I am sending you to such countries that many governments ruled there justly and unjustly. You checked the activities of the governors before you; likewise, people will check your activities. People will say the same things you said for their activities for your activities. Who is good and right can be understood only through the words that Allah makes a person utter. Therefore, your most valuable property should be your right and fair deeds. Keep your feelings under control.

Nurture feelings of love and mercy, and inclinations of grace for people in your heart. Never become a monster waiting to swallow the poor and weak people; the people are divided into two: they are either your brothers in your religion or your fellow creatures. Yes, they may make mistakes; they may be faulty. Do not say, 'I have absolute power; I will order and they will obey me.‘ For, doing so means to cause mischief in the heart, to weaken the religion and to approach disasters. If the power you have makes you feel conceited, look at the majesty of realms and think that Allah is omnipotent related to the things that you cannot have control over. This thought will make your view that is high in the sky come down, eliminate its severity and make you come to your senses again.

Do not abandon justice related to Allah and people. Otherwise, you will oppress people. If you oppress people, Allah will be the prosecutor. If Allah becomes the enemy of a person, all of the things that this person can clutch will be of no good. In the world, there is nothing that will change the grace of Allah and quicken His wrath more than oppression. Allah hears the groaning of those who are oppressed and sees the oppressors.

Untie all of the knots of hatred. Cut all of the ropes that could drag you to revenge. Do not readily believe the words of the people who backbite and criticize others. For, no matter how innocent a backbiter seems, he is a mischief-maker. Do not allow those who are stingy, cowardly and ambitious to enter your presence.

Among your consultants, you should like most the one that tells you the sad truth the most. Make truthful people and those who fear Allah your confidants. Do not allow them to applaud you and to make you pleased by attributing to you things that you have not done. For, extreme applause leads man to conceitedness. Do not regard good people and bad people as the same. For, such equality will drive good people away from good deeds and encourage bad people to do bad deeds.

When you choose officials to appoint, do not find it sufficient to look at their faces and to have good views about them. For, people can win the favor of the governors who decide based on what they see. However, they have no sincerity. Therefore, choose the ones that are known by their good deeds among people before you.

Fear Allah a lot about the poor, victims and disabled people. Among them are those who tell people about their needs and those who do not. It is your duty to take care of them and to protect their rights. Do not allow your conceitedness to avoid taking care of them. Do your best and work so hard so that you will be able to say, 'I did my best' in the divine presence.’

I heard the following from the Prophet: ‘A nation in which the right of the weak cannot be taken from the strong cannot get strong.’

Do the work of a day on that day because every day has its own work.

A governor has some men who are close to him. They may be involved in nepotism, oppression and injustice in their deeds. Prevent their harm by eliminating the causes of them. Never give any land to the people around you, your relatives and friends. Do not allow any of them to collect store property in a way that will cause trouble to you. Their profits will not belong to you but their harm will belong to you in both the world and the hereafter.

Never like yourself. Never rely on the aspects of your soul that seem pleasant to you. Never want to be praised in your presence. This is the strongest tool that Satan has in order to destroy the good deeds of people. Never rub in the favors you did to your people; do not exaggerate when you mention what you have done and do not break your promises you have made to them. For, rubbing in the favors you have made eliminates the favors; exaggeration hides the truth and breaking your promises causes Allah and people to hate you.

Never start to do something before it is appropriate time for it. When it is time to do it, do not procrastinate. Do not insist on the things that have not become clear; when they become clear, do not procrastinate. Do everything properly. Do not privilege yourself related to the things about which everybody is equal. Do not act as if you are unaware of the bad deeds that your men have done.

Control your fury, wrath, hands and tongue. In order to be saved from the evil of them, delay the severity of your fury so that it will fade away and you will control your will." [ Kitabu’l-Kharaj, 448-460. ]

Hz. Ali worked very hard in order to realize justice. He proved through his own life that everybody was equal before law no matter what their posts and positions were. Although he was the Caliph of the believers, he did not mind being tried in the court with a Jew:

Hz. Ali lost his armor on the way to Siffin Expedition. When the war ended and he returned to Kufa, he saw his armor in the hands of a Jew. He said to the Jew,

"This is my armor. I did not sell it to anyone nor did I give it to anyone as a present." The Jew said,

"This is my armor and I have it now."

If Hz. Ali had wanted, he would have grabbed his armor. He was definitely right but he offered to settle the issue in the court:

"Let us go to the judge." They went to the judge together.

The judge was Qadi Shurayh, who was famous for his justice. When Hz. Ali entered the room, he sat next to the judge and explained the reason why he sat there as follows:

"If my opponent were not a Jew, I would sit next to him. I heard the Messenger of Allah say, ‘In the place where Allah disdains them, you disdain them, too.’"

Qadi Shurayh said to Hz. Ali:

"O leader of the believers! What is the problem between you?" Hz. Ali said:

"The armor the Jew has is mine. I did not sell it to anyone nor did I give it to anyone as a present."

When the judge understood the issue, he asked Hz. Ali:

"Do you have any evidence to prove your claim?" Hz. Ali said:

"Yes, I do. My servant Qambar and my son Hasan are witnesses that it belongs to me." Qadi Shurayh said,

"It is not permissible for the son to be a witness for his father." Hz. Ali said,

"How come the witnessing of a person of Paradise is not accepted? I heard the Messenger of Allah say, 'Hasan and Husayn are the lords of the youth of Paradise."

Eventually, Qadi Shurayh decreed in favor of the Jew owing to lack of evidence. When the Jew saw this magnificent justice, he could not help saying,

"The leader of the believers sued against me and the judge he appointed decreed against him. I witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger. This armor belongs to you. It fell off your camel and I took it."

Hz. Ali was pleased with what he said,

"Since you have become a Muslim, I will give this armor to you as a present." [ Tarikhu’l-Khulafa, p. 172. ]

Hz. Ali did his best to support the three caliphs before him. All of the three caliphs appreciated his values by consulting him regarding important issues.

On the other hand, Hz. Ali did his best in order to prevent the mischievous movements during the time of Hz. Uthman. Unfortunately, he could not prevent the incidents that led to the martyrdom of Hz. Uthman.

There were complete tumults during the caliphate of Hz. Uthman. Some Muslims recognized Hz. Ali as the caliph while others recognized Muawiya. Muawiya was a relative of Hz. Uthman; therefore, he wanted his killers to be caught and punished.

However, it was not known who killed Hz. Uthman. There were a few suspects. Hz. Ali asked for some time. He said he could not execute anybody owing to uncertainty. He promised that the killer would be punished as soon as he was determined. However, Muawiya hurried. Eventually, bloody wars took place due to ijtihad difference between the two Companions. Many Muslims were martyred. It became impossible to establish peace and unity among Muslims.

In the end, Hz. Ali was martyred in Kufa in the 40th year of the Migration. All of the Muslims paid allegiance to Muawiya.

Hz. Ali had a different place in the eye of the Prophet. That the Prophet married his beloved daughter off to Hz. Ali is an indication of it. The following hadiths also indicate it:

"Ali loves Allah and His Messenger; Allah and His Messenger love Ali." [ Muslim, Fadail as-Sahaba: 33. ]

"He who loves Ali is regarded to love me; he who loves me is regarded to love Allah. He who gets angry with Ali is regarded to get angry with me; he who gets angry with me is regarded to get angry with Allah." [ Tarikhu’l-Khulafa, p. 162. ]

"I am of Ali; Ali is of me." [ Tirmidhi, Manaqib: 20. ]

"He who is a munafiq does not love Ali; he who is a believer does not hate Ali." [ Tirmidhi, Manaqib: 21; Ibni Majah, Muqaddima: 11. ]

"O Ali! You are my brother in both the world and the hereafter."

"He who curses Ali is regarded to curse me." [ Fathu’r-Rabbani, 23: 121. ]

586 hadiths were reported from Hz. Ali. Some of them are as follows:

"The Messenger of Allah said, 'There are such rooms in Paradise that inside of them are seen from outside and the outside of them are seen from inside.’ Thereupon, somebody asked ‘O the Messenger of Allah! Who are these rooms for?’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘They belong to those who speak leniently, feed others, perform fasting regularly and perform prayers when people are asleep at night." [ Tirmidhi, Birr: 53. ]

"Allah will send to Paradise a person who reads the Quran, memorizes it and accepts as legitimate whatever it renders legitimate and accepts as forbidden whatever it renders forbidden; He also gives him the right to intercede for ten people." [ Tirmidhi, Fadailu’l-Qur’an: 13. ]

"O Ali! Do not delay three things: the prayer whose time is due, the dead body which is ready for the funeral and the girl or widow whose hand is asked in marriage by a suitable person…" [ Tirmidhi, Salat.13. ]

There are many sayings of Hz. Ali that have reached us. Some of them are as follows:

"He who wants Paradise should keep away from the things that his soul desires in the world."

Hz. Ali said,

"I am astonished by the person who has the opportunity for salvation but suffers destruction." Those who were listening to him asked,

"O Ali! What is the opportunity for salvation?" Hz. Ali said,

"To ask forgiveness from Allah."

"Speak little so that you will be secure. Keeping silent is a means of going to Paradise. Do not tell your secret to your friend; your friend also has a friend and he will tell your secret to him."

May Allah Almighty be pleased with him and may He enable us to attain his intercession!

You are right Sea, Harry has treated all of these women really badly and gotten away with it because they were at a disadvantage. His fan’s support has meant he has had an upper hand. They do not realise how misogynistic they are inherently. He couldn’t do the same with Taylor because she had the upper hand there and Larries hate her till this day for using him for garnering public sympathy but he does the same with people like Camille and that other young girl he used for a song. Now he has also met his match with Olivia who won’t let him get away that easily hence his fans absolutely hate her. A PR relationship is two ways, I am not sure why they expect only him to benefit from it.

Olivia will come out of this more scarred than Harry, and her career will be judged more harshly for a second. I think she will eventually recover nicely in every way except personal. She has caused damaged relationships and lost time that are difficult to make up (two years is a long time in a six-year-old’s life). Fans always say, “We don’t see everything that goes on,” but we did see publicly served custody papers, which means the fallout with Jason Sudeikis is very bitter. Children will never benefit from that.

Even if Olivia recovers, the children will always have to deal with the fact that their mother chose Harry. She chose her happiness over their father’s and theirs. She chose to chase a sordid sort of fame, a Kardashianesque notoriety, in the most public and embarrassing way possible.

It’s normal for Harry, I suppose, in his fame-obsessed circus. But for a young child who looks up to adults as role models? It’s confusing and sad.

Her 2022 comeback is definitely not going well

So you know that saying whenever can go wrong will. That’s definitely what is happening to Emma in her 2022 comeback for sure. We heard it from sources that she would try to be more active this year. She has been a bit more active but the receptions are definitely not what she expected at all. The last few months of this year have been some of the worst in her career for sure. I’m not sure if she has a PR team, but if she does they are definitely working and sweating hard. The whole issue with the Mermaids charity did not help at all. You know it’s bad when people are saying JK Rowling is right, and she’s looking like the nice person calling out the charity. Then you have the whole dating Green thing, not sure if it’s an actual relationship or what. It doesn’t look like it because they haven’t been seen together since the Italy trip. It look like it might have been a PR move, or they are just friends with benefits. Lots of sources “claiming that they are close to her” that her and green are really good friends and that’s all. It gives off more FWB vibes Instead. But the reception to that was not great at all, she was getting flamed for it so bad. The reputation of Greens father is something that he can’t run away from. He might be a nice guy, and completely different from his father but we all know the internet doesn’t care and will still judge him. And well Emma doesn’t look good at all for associating herself with him, I think people definitely judge her to harshly on this one. You can’t help who you love and maybe she does like that guy. Maybe he is very different from his father. Then thing is ever since the pictures of the Italy trip came out she hasn’t been seen with him at all. Maybe if they are dating they are keeping it more hidden now due to The Backlash, and the last thing she needs more backlash if trying to make a comeback. I think eventually more information will come out over that since she can’t stay single for a long time. So we will see her with Green or some new guy. Let’s be honest she’s had lots of boyfriends now so she doesn’t like being single. And if it was a PR move for her Prada add them it definitely didn’t get the positive reception she wanted. Then you have the whole Prada campaign she did, in which she was the actress, and director of the commercial. It seems like she’s trying to get into directing. Maybe she could be successful if give a shot, but I definitely don’t think people will watch something or support it fully is she’s only directing it. At the end of the day she is an actress and people want to see her act. Plus that Prada campaign definitely has to been a flop or have bad sales. I mean shes supposed to be this big name celebrity and the perfume is definitely not getting attention. Compare to her social media following the interaction is horrendous. No big influencers have even talked about it, not even former cast members have helped her promote it. I think only one former cast member helped her by promoting it by singing to Emma near a Prada add. If you look at her socials each time she post something anout Prada the comments are all talking about the issue in Iran, and how come she hasn’t spoken up about it. She posted today and not a single comment is about the perfume it’s all about her not supporting Iran. In sure Prada is definitely not happy with that, people not talking about the product. She did Bring it I’m herself by claiming to be this serious activist and feminist. When things like this happen people expect for you to speak up and help the cause. Maybe she can’t post anything because she’s in a contract with Prada for a bit to promote the perfume. They’re has to be things that state she can’t promote controversial things during her contract or promotion of the product. But I honestly think that if she posted something supporting the women of Iran I would crate more buzz that the whole Prada camping. It might actually help the campaign, since when they mentioned her thy would say former HP Hogwarts alumni, and they would talk about her recent add. Because I’m sure at this point she must know that no matter what she does or roles she plays she’s always going to be know as Hermione from HP. Then you have the cult thing, not sure how accurate it is since not much more has come from it. It looks more false as the days go by. Still creating more negative press for her. If she did join or even did attend a zoom meeting just to be curious it’s not a good look . Due to the cult leaders past history. So yeah sorry after this long rant, I definitely don’t think she’s making a comeback this year at all. She was spotted in Spain In a post form a post on twitter. She probably just enjoying her money and life. She might have to soon realize that she’s not that big anymore and she losing relevance. And the drama doesn’t help at all. I think if we seen anything from her it’s definitely 2023 for sure. And it’s more drama or even more stuff about the cult then I definitely think her career will definitely be over for sure. I actually want to see if she promotes Felton’s book at all during related or near it. If they are close friends as they are claiming to be. If she post printing the book it will also be a bad look. Since we know that she can post about other things and Prada is not limiting it. So people will be mad because she’s not doing anything about the dramas she’s facing. I think it will be a bad look no matter what for her. I think she’s taking the ignoring route for sure. Letting people forget about it. But if more stuff comes out about her it definitely won’t be pretty for her career.

The Questions

I dunno, felt like doing something while working up the nerve to write a thing.

Coffee or tea?

Tea - But more specifically she prefers more fruity teas with softer but sweeter flavors.

Hot or Cold?

Cold - She’s not a big fan of fire, as fire is quite destructive. And she can actually like. Feel plants die so.

Sunrise or Sunset?

Sunrise - She's only ever seen one sunset but if she could see a sunrise I think she would prefer it, emotionally speaking. She’s real heavy on metaphors and emotions and so would enjoy the concept.

Neon or Pastel?

Pastel - Neon stands out too much and she sees it all the time (living in a cyber-eque dystopia,) though she likes the look of it.

Books or Movies?

Books - She’s big on thinking, and imagining, so books are definitely more her forte. Also all of the harder parts about watching movies.

Rural living or Urban Living?

Urban Living - Because of her love for nature- rather than in spite of it- she prefers finding alternative solutions to the stone towers of urban cities as opposed to just writing them off. She’s one the people who would really rather they introduce plants to everyone.

Cats or Dogs?

Dogs - See, I wanted to say cats, because I’m not a fan of dogs, but Hadley is- if I have to choose- a dog person, because it’s something to take care of and give attention and that’s literally all she knows how to do.

Stability or Adventure?

Adventure - Hadley loves seeing new things and learning new things and isn’t afraid to pay the price. Not to mention Adventures means people she can help- she loves helping people.

Brutal truth or blissful lie?

Blissful lie - There’s a time and a place for the truth, but it should never be brutal. If she must either tell a brutal truth or a blissful lie, she’d rather lie. (Though honestly she’d rather tell blissful truths and brutal lies.)

Warm colors or cool colors?

Warm Colors - That’s the primary tone flowers average out to, though honestly she likes both equally.

Coziness or opulence?

Coziness - Wealth makes her feel unsafe, and guilty. Like she herself is taking from the poorer people. Though her parents are (mostly) honest workers, she doesn’t even really like the fact that they live in a two-story house.

Work or rest?

Work - It’s always been her belief that one should never lie still unless they’re working their mind. The only person that’s ever gotten her to take a break would be her girlfriend, and even those times were spent learning glitches in the games her girlfriend would play.

Baths or showers?

Baths - She likes the comfort of being surrounded. (When she was little and small enough, she’d close her eyes and pretend to be a lilypad in the tub. This caused many heart attacks for her poor mother.)

Late nights or early mornings?

Late nights - Nothing like staying up all night with your favourite gamer girl/detective boy and having lots of fun. Plus, she generally doesn’t get a lot of sleep so really this is just ideal.

Tradition or innovation?

Innovation - In the right circumstances, I can totally see her getting into unethical science. (Mainly malforming her current body. She has no love for it, personally, and only maintains herself for the benefit of those around her.) And she would rather see the world change than stay the same, generally speaking. (The world is pretty bad.)

Sweet or savory?

Savory - Sweetness is all well and good but she doesn’t find it filling. She would prefer to eat filling food than sweet candies. (Most of my characters will prefer savory for much the same reasons.)

Spicy or mild?

Mild - She doesn’t really care either way, but spicy food can injure the body sometimes and she would prefer to not deal with that.

Beach or forest?

Forest - She’s a botanist. Ofc she’d prefer the forest. Though she would likely enjoy water plants too, her father’s escapades into the ocean deter her.

Chaos or order?

Chaos - She believes there’s a certain kind of order to chaos that is particularly beautiful when properly founded and encouraged. If she had to endure rigid structure, she totally could, but she’s far more likely to dismantle it herself.

Leather or denim?

Denim - She likes the blue of denim. (And leather is Too Heavy.)

Peace or passion?

Passion - She doesn’t have strong feelings about anything other than plants. She finds passion to be a beautiful thing, and would generally choose a passion over peace if she had to. In many ways, she admires those with a strong zest for life.

Open space or closed space?

Closed space - She has a particular draw to the comfort of being compressed. A small part of it would call it the feeling of being buried.

Company or solitude?

Company - She doesn’t like being alone. That’s when the Thoughts might roll in. She'd much rather hang out with even unpleasant company than stay alone somewhere.

Shame or pride?

Fire or water?

Water - if only because she identifies with it in a strange way. Something about the way it moves and how it feels is just comforting to her. Not to mention the implications of it's complicated relationship with fire itself.

Pride - undoubtedly. She believes that whatever you are, you should be proud of it. Whether or not it's good or bad for others, you should be proud to be you. Not many people can boast being themselves.

Fight or flight?

Flight - Aside from most things not being worth the fight, she likes being chased. She likes outwitting her opponent as opposed to out-strengthing them. She finds the game of escape more fun than the force of a fight.

Past or future?

Past - It's harder to see the future, so she tends towards trying to use the past instead. For her, she doesn't have much of a future anyways.

Give or take?

Give - She has no reason or will to take. After all, that sort of thing just doesn't give her joy. She likes seeing people contented and she likes being around happy people. Taking will only ever subtract from that.

Risk or safety?

Loud or soft?

Soft - Being too loud can draw eyes to her and she would rather avoid that potentiality if- at all- possible. The effectiveness varies but she will always be of softer cloth.

Risk - if you can afford to take a risk, you absolutely should. Safety is never guaranteed, so you should naturally go with the rest of the world. In a risky world, one must live a risky life.

Anon, this has been sitting for so long in my ask box that you've probably forgotten about it... sorry!!! I struggled with how to reply, thinking I would pull out all the receipts, then thinking I wouldn't even answer, but here we go... I tried to keep it somewhat short (I might have failed).

I have much to say about this but I'm gonna go with one thing that I felt. There are of course many facts that helped me reach this conclusion but as I've said, I had an intuition, an uneasy feeling when I was in ~Harryland~.

So, in my brief (but intense) stay there, I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that Harry was so different through the years/eras... like how is cute fetus harry the same person as frat boy harry, who is the same person as hot and intimidating long hair harry, who is the person as proper and suited up dunkirk/hs1 harry, who is the same as grandpa fine line harry? I really had the impression these were separate Harry...(and I'm not just talking about the looks/fashion).

And then I realized it's because they are, it's the public persona du jour... it's become very clear to me that Harry is projecting so many different "personalities" so he caters to everyone... you have closeted by management, victimized, larry Harry Styles, you have rainbow-flags-waiving LGBTQ Icon Harry Styles, you have only publicly dating handsome white women Harry Styles, dating my director who broke her 10 years relationship for me Harry Styles, HS1 "rockstar" Harry Styles, pop star FL Harry Styles, singing WS in a leather suit Harry Styles...

It's everything and nothing at the same time. There's something for everyone (and this becomes more apparent as we see him catering to the GP) and so, in the end, there's nothing. It's Harry Styles™️.

It could be that the man is a chameleon! And he absolutely has the right to change over the years. However when I looked beyond those apparent changes, I couldn't find anything about who Harry really was, not even as an artist.

It's a lot of vague stuff, like "I haven't found a cause to support", "sexuality is just fun", "i don't see gender in clothing", "just making the kind of music that i like"... His inability to take a stance on anything has proven to me that either he has no opinion or, most likely, he does not want to be firm on anything, as a PR technique, so his image stays malleable and he can permanently reinvent himself to stay relevant. He's playing all sides of the coin; of being a "woke king" without putting any real work, of participating and benefiting from Holivia, but without ever confirming it so it's easier to deny it when it's over; of saying "everyone's a little bit gay" and singing about making out with boys in concert but keeping it safe when answering sexuality questions in interviews so he's seen as both woke and non-threatening for the GP, and he can always change the narrative in a few years when it's safer to do so.

It's a lot of props, industry relations and empty words/performative activism...

It's having TPWK as a slogan but shading his ex-bandmates all the time, all while saying he's proud of coming from a boyband. It's making a big deal out of Zayn and Louis smoking weed and almost "destroying" 1D and then bragging about taking mushrooms to create Fine Line. It's sending flowers and gifts to the cast and crew of DWD, as if it would be enough to make up for creating a messed up work environment because he's an actor sleeping with the director. It's literally telling Zach Lowe that the way Zayn left the band was "unprofessional" and then, one year later, having a public affair with his director ON SET...

The only thing I could figure about who he was, is that he is someone who has decided to become very famous, and I gotta give it to him for working hard and having people around him working ever harder to achieve that. The end justifies the mean, I guess.

So when I realized all that, I honestly felt like I had been duped all along. Then I found out there are literally blogs for "ex-Harries" so I gathered I must not have been the only one to realize that it's a lot of glitter and gold but nothing of substance...

Of course, to a certain extent, we don't really know any celebrity. It's all a façade so there's no surprise here. But I was really put off by what I found out about Harry and sadly I don't find his music good enough for me to brush it off and continue supporting him or enjoy his work. I did enjoy his songs for a while, but now all I can think about is Watermelon Sugar, and the fact that it's gonna be his legacy...it tells you everything you need to know.
