ROUND 4D, MATCH 2 OUT OF 2!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Ella:
so this is a discworld story, and in discworld stories are sort of parasitic life forms that like to happen over and over. they can be harnessed, with enough magic. this is what’s happening to ella saturday, who is playing the parts of both cinderella and the frog princess. her evil fairy godmother (you get two, an evil one and a good one, though her evil one is under the impression that she’s the good one) has taken over the city, and is forcing everyone into fairytale roles under the threat of execution if they’re not quite archetypal enough. she thinks this will make people happy. ella, on account of being the dead  barons daughter, has gotten the role of princess. so she’s being kept in a house with two snakes who have been turned into human women, and is being forced to go to the ball, where she is expected to dance with the duc, who is a frog turned into a human, and kiss him to solidify the spell. she very much does not want to do any of this, but fortunately she’s got that other fairy godmother! who is brand new, on account of the last one died, and has no idea what she’s doing. but it all turns out ok in the end, and the stories stop (for a given value) and she’s the baroness now a they all live, if not happily or ever after, then normally, and for a time
Miyo:
Her story is a classic twist on the Cinderella tale. (spoilers ahead) Miyo grows up in an abusive household. Her father neglected her. Her stepmother and half-sister constantly belittled, berated, abused, and stole from her. She was raised as a servant girl for years following the death of her mother. Everything changes when she is put into an arranged marriage with the prince-like character, Kiyoka Kudo. And slowly, over time, she grows more confident and learns who she is, what she wants, and falls in love. She has multiple fairy-godmother type confidants in Kudo's maid Yurie, a former maid from her old home Hana, and even Kudo's sister Hazuki. The opening song to the anime even includes a line about how the singer wondering if Cinderella stories even exist! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL42Vr4naOU

My Happy Marriage - By Agitogi Akumi (9/10)
Tumblr media
The anime adaptation of this is also good. Go watch it.
Redemption and trauma don't go together often. Most of the time it's easier to kill off evil characters, and rush into a happy ending. This happy ending is slow and painful, and our heroine has to fight for every single shred of happiness she gets.
Miyo is from the Saimori family. She was born for entirely political reasons. Her father had a beloved lover, who he had to abandon to marry her mother. He did his duty, but then his political bride died young.
He immediately brought his lover back into his life. He officially married her, and he gave her complete power out of guilt.
Tumblr media
Miyo loses her right to...everything. Her new mother sees her as an obstacle who almost ruined her true love. When they have a daughter that new daughter is superior in every single way.
Kaya Saimori is beautiful. Smart. She also has supernatural powers, as a daughter of the Saimori family should.
Miyo didn't manifest, so the abuse her "mother" puts her through gets worse...until finally Miyo is completely degraded.
At 19 she is a soulless husk who only apologizes.
Tumblr media
She also loses her only friend. Kaya gets to marry him instead of her. Kaya gets the family home. Kaya gets the spirit power. Kaya gets the love. Kaya gets the respect.
Miyo can't even be jealous.
She is so drained.
So tried of being ignored.
She "turns off" when her "mother" abuses her. She dreams of the mother who loved her. Of the love and future she cannot have because she is a useless...
Tumblr media
Her father marries her off to a powerful stranger. The head of the Kudo family. He has burned through a half dozen fiances. He doesn't like rude, prideful, rich women. He lives on a small estate despite his wealth, and he protects the world from supernatural monsters that rarely appear. He believes his work is important, even if said monsters only attack once or twice a generation.
He is a VERY serious man.
Miyo wins him over by being serious too.
She does not look down on him for living a quiet life.
She thinks his job is cool as hell.
She doesn't think he's a boring, stiff man.
She thinks he will abandon her when he notices she has no powers.
He could not care less.
He thinks her cooking is delicious, and when she makes a hair ornament for him he wears it right away. They are both stiff and awkward, together.
They are a great couple.
Tumblr media
When we see Kouji again he is miserable. He misses his only love. Here we see the illusion break. Miyo thinks Kaya is beautiful, irresistible and charming. She only thinks that way because of her isolated and awful upbringing. Kaya is actually an unbearable brat. Kouji isn't moved by her beauty or good breeding in the slightest.
In fact, he goes a little crazy.
He decides to pretend to like Kaya, so he can protect Miyo from her family. You see, they're all idiots. Miyo doesn't have powers, but she is her mothers daughter. Her real mother was from a family that can control dreams and minds. The most terrifying family. Her father realizes he gave away a very valuable bride for a low price, and now he wants her back.
Tumblr media
Kouji has her back though. He is her shadow ally, even during his most crazy moments.
Kaya falls in love with Kudo because she's a superficial moron. She also knew Kouji is in love with Miyo. She just took him to make Miyo miserable.
....bitch...
Kouji resists her bullcrap, because he knows she's a liar.
Tumblr media
Kaya's jealousy festers and explodes when she sees Miyo happy with her handsome husband. Her happy ending is at hand at last. Kudo storms to Saimori house. He demands an apology for Miyo before the marriage. He says she will be treated with respect from now on, or he will never use his considerable army influence to help them. He doesn't care if Miyo was given to him for political reasons. She is his now, and he has no real use for her family. He's strong enough on his own. Funnily enough he only accepted the proposal because he was tried of being nagged about marriage.
Now, he is a happy man who will protect his happy marriage.
Tumblr media
Miyo, sadly, gets kidnapped. Kaya spews toxic crap. She says she is more suitable for the handsome and powerful Kudo. Her horrible mother beats the shit out of Miyo the whole time. Miyo does not apologize. She knows happiness is within her reach.
The Saimori family isn't that great.
Turns out their power is on the decline. Kaya has excellent supernatural sight, but no combat abilities. She's middle of the pack. She was never special.
Miyo doesn't want to be special.
She wants to be happy.
She doesn't apologize. She defys her "mother". She looks down on Kaya, and she says nobody deserves Kudo except her.
Tumblr media
Kudo storms the house for real. He burns the gates with lightning. Kouji alerted him about the kidnapping. His plan to be a shadow actually worked great. He never once hesitated to be there for Miyo, even though he wasn't powerful enough to actually save her.
He stands back, and he watches Kudo crush the Saimori house. The awful house that abused his bride.
Miyo smiles.
She is proud of herself, because she didn’t even think of giving up her husband. The voices in her head didn’t win.
Tumblr media
My Happy Marriage is very...complicated.
Miyo struggles. Her mothers powers do manifest. The darkness makes her depression worse. The abuse she went through doesn't go away. She still believes she is stupid, and unworthy. Kudo has to slowly help her heal. He says he will kill anyone that gets in the way of her happiness (basically)...and the story moves on.
Kaya becomes a servant in a strict house, but she's still heir. She's still going to marry Kouji. Kouji has decided to better himself. He was thinking about killing Miyo, and then himself, so they could escape their hellish lives together. Now that she's happy he plans to move to the city. He's actually going to be with Kaya and rebuild the Saimori house into a respectable one, from the ground up. No execution. No gratuitous revenge.
Life goes on.
It's frighteningly mature.
Killing Kaya wouldn't solve a damn thing, because she's an immature idiot. Technically her mom was abusing her too. Kaya was pushed to be perfect and powerful. Her mother used to threaten her and say she would end up like Miyo if she didn't do well. So, in the end nobody in the Saimori family was happy.
Miyo still isn't completely happy, but she's trying.

Hey, first time request! Recently I watched an anime called My Happy Marriage and I was wondering if I could request Dazai, Chuuya, Kunikida, Fukuzawa, Ranpo, Akutagawa and Fyodor with the reader who has a personality and history similar to Miyo Saimori? How would the BSD characters help the reader?
Here is the information about the character and anime: https://my-happy-marriage.fandom.com/wiki/Miyo_Saimori#cite_note-novel-v1-1-1
P.S: I recommend you watch the anime before making my request so that you will understand the characters and the plot.
Thank you!
hii dear♡ unfortunately I had no time to watch the anime cuz my schedule has been packed these days. but I read Miyo's backstory in the manga and on wikifandom so I'm quite sure I got the main idea ^^
so reader is gonna have her backstory, personality and ability but she's just in a relationship with the bsd guys, not an arranged marriage. I really hope you like it♡♡

𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒆: fluff♡
Tumblr media
𝑫𝒂𝒛𝒂𝒊
Dazai is a very perceptive individual. he could tell from the second the two of you met that there was something different about you. still, he doesn't bring it up until you got closer
when you decided to tell him everything about your past; how you've never been loved by your family, how you've always tried to prove yourself to them but it was all for nothing. how you've always felt like you weren't good enough; he's surprisingly understanding
as someone who has never felt love he gets you. of course he doesn't dare compare his past to yours
Dazai is such a supportive partner. it's the little things for him like telling you you're appreciated and loved and surprising you with gifts (when he actually has money lmao)
he doesn't strike me as the type of partner who pushes all the "but how can you think so lowly of yourself? you're amazing" on you. he knows fully well that healing is a long process but he's ready to support you all the way
when you're having especially tough time, and not only with your family but also in general, he's always there for you.
best cuddle sessions when you're sad
tries his best to show you the love you never had and get you out of your shell (ofc he does, he's an extrovert)
as for your ability I don't feel like it would matter too much for him. of course, he finds it impressive but in the end, he love you for who you are, not for your ability.
you both end up healing each other; you show him kindness and he makes you see your worth. so overall it's a healthy relationship♡
𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒚𝒂
he gets so mad when you tell him about your past. he's angry because he really cannot understand how your family could ever treat you like this
he's honestly surprised that you're so kind and gentle, considering what you've been through
calls your sister a bitch for sure. but after you tell him to stop he doesn't do it anymore
showers you with love in all shapes and forms. you wanna have a nice chat over a glass of wine? sure. he saw you looking at a kimono while the two of you were out on a date? he gets it for you.
very supportive overall although he may not be able to express his feelings sometimes.
let's just pray he never meets your family💀
reassures you a lot and really tries to show you that you're appreciated. you always feel loved when you're with him
𝑲𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒌𝒊𝒅𝒂
this neon green flag of a man will listen to you talk about your past and keep a straight face. but deep inside he feels like crying
he's a man of strong morals so naturally he's mad at the injustice of your family
very reassuring and patient, he gives the best words of affirmation and always makes sure you feel appreciated
as for your ability he does think it's powerful. and if you work for the ADA he's sure to keep you as safe as possible
feels a deep need to shelter you from every bad thing in the world because honestly, you've been through enough
God forbid you ever have a fight. he'll cry himself to sleep
tries his best to always remind you that you're loved and that your past doesn't define you and that you don't need to prove yourself to him in any way
overall GREEN FLAG
𝑨𝒌𝒖𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒘𝒂
oh boy
when you tell him about your past and the things your family did he just sits there like: 😐
Akutagawa knows very well the pain of never feeling good enough and always needing to please others
you bond a lot over your traumatic childhoods althought it takes him a while to open up
he's not too god (he's downright terrible) at talking and reassuring you with words of affirmation. so he'll show you that you're cared for through little kind gestures like brewing you tea in the morning, bringing you snacks after his missions and spending time with you
at first he thinks your ability is weak cuz it's not useful in combat. but when he actually realises what you can do he holds such respect for you like hands down. somehow he also feels a but thretened by your power?? in a way?? but he gets over it
little by little you both fully open up to each other. your gentle personality really soothes his soul
so just like with Dazai, you help each other heal and have an overall healthy relationship♡
𝑹𝒂𝒏𝒑𝒐
speaking of perceptive...
he probably deduced your trooma✨️ after a simple chat. but then again you tell him everything at some point
he's really supportive and caring. sometimes he may come across as too pushy, like forcing you to get out of your shell and meet his friends and be more open about your feelings, but he means well
really sweet and gentle when you're in private. you can talk openly to him about anything he will listen
"Oh? You feel like you're not good enough for me? Nuh uh"
Ranpo may seem childish and playful most of the time but he's actually thoughtful
always shares your candy with you to show you how much he cares
I do see him asking Poe to write a novel describing the perfect date place. and then takes you on that perfect date yk. he's smooth like that
being with you makes him act more mature and serious. because he is serious about you. he truly wants to show you the love you never had and make you feel worthy of yourself
𝑭𝒖𝒌𝒖𝒛𝒂𝒘𝒂
another green flag
you can see his smile slowly fade away when you tell him everything about your past
when you're done he hugs you so tightly♡
making sure you're appreciated is one of his number one priorities now
ofc he doesn't mind that you're shy. always reassures you that you can take things slow and fully open up to each other and all. he's really sweet
if you weren't his partner and just a member of the ADA he'd be your father figure. but that's not the case
makes you feel cared for with acts of service and quality time. although he's busy at the Agency he always makes time to go on dates with you or simply spend time in the comfort of your home
🙏🙏 best words of affirmation
he feels the need to protect you. Fukuzawa is very much aware of the fact that your ability makes you a target. many people could take advantage of it. so he wants to keep you safe
he does his utmost to be reassuring and offer you support whenever you need it. and helps you heal and learn to love yourself.
𝑭𝒚𝒐𝒅𝒐𝒓
this man... when I tell you he only wanted you for your ability at first
but somehow he realises that there's more to you than just your power. little by little he grows fond of you; and curious
when you tell him about your past he's disappointed but not surprised. he knows how cruel people can be
still, after that he treats you more like a human being and when you do end up together he's surprisingly gentle
Fyodor is lowkey forced to change his attitude towards you. to be kind and good. to show you that you're loved because it really pains him to see you suffer
I see him brewing you tea, cuddling with you while you read a book together and playing the cello to cheer you up when you're sad or simply need to unwind
being with him may not be the easiest. he's cold and distant sometimes but he does his best to reassure you that you're worhty, loved and precious (and not only because of your ability)
STILL if you ever get into a fight he won't hesitate to use your past against you. but he will regret it the second he sees how your face drops. so he apologises

I watched My Happy Marriage because Netflix kept trying to make me and it was really good! It was a very interesting take on a post-saved Cinderella character.
I loved that Miyo Saimori was so broken that she can't even ask for help when Kudou is begging her to ask for help. I loved that she did need to be saved, but she still stood up to her sister and her mother on her own. It worked really well that she wanted to stay with Kudou but didn't really believe she was worthy of being there. She was a very well done childhood trauma character and she has an amazing quiet strength.
Also, Kiyoka Kudou was such a non-tropey lead male character. He is mean(ish) to Miyo exactly once, then he's shocked by how apologetic she is afterwards. He immediately thinks something is wrong, investigates her childhood, and is disgusted by it. And then when he thinks she doesn't want to be with him anymore, he's ready to just let her go (until his sister smacks him). I loved his response to Miyo because it seems like a really realistic way to deal with being sent someone like her.

My Happy Marriage Episode 2: About My Husband To Be
Tumblr media
So while I did sing praises for the first episode of this series, I did also have my reservations about the longevity of a Cinderella type story that focuses around using Miyo's trauma to elicit an emotional response from viewers. While that is still partially present in this episode, it's greatly outweighed by the fresh direction that the story follows by adding new and interesting elements within. Not a great deal to talk about per se, but more than enough for me to share my thoughts on!
To get started, or really generalize the episode as a whole, Kiyoka and Miyo's relationship gets off to an interesting start. It's what you might expect to a degree, but it doesn't rush into Kiyoka being a "surprisingly good guy". Rather, he sticks very close to being abrasive and distant, even telling Miyo that if he says to die, that she should die, which prompts this reaction.
Right from the start of the episode, it's established that Kiyoka is not at all focused on being a terrible person to his fiancées, but rather someone that rigorously tests them in regards to why it is that they've come to his home.
Tumblr media
You'll see a lot of this behavior throughout the episode, with moments like Kiyoka questioning whether or not Miyo poisoned his food, for example. It's very telling that Kiyoka's a very untrusting man, but it runs far deeper than that.
Tumblr media
Kiyoka himself puts it into words: he chases out anyone that's after his fortune or position in the world.
Tumblr media
I think it paints a very interesting picture. It's not that Kiyoka hates Miyo by any means, but that similar to her, his life has had its challenges and issues that have shaped him into the person that he stands as today. And credit to Kiyoka, he understands that, if only through the efforts of Yurie. To that extent, even if he's already finding ways to "connect" with Miyo, it's well established that these are through regretful fashion as he understands his own mistakes and seeks to correct them. He's not immediately the perfect husband, but he is a well meaning person to those that deserve it.
Tumblr media
I think a great example of Kiyoka and Miyo's relationship is that it takes a wall to obscure Kiyoka for him to be able to apologize to Miyo and give her another chance at what it is that she wants: to be useful.
Tumblr media
Let's take a look at that last little bit there with Miyo, her desire to be useful. It's well established through the first episode that she was only ever kept around to be useful in the Saimori household. She wasn't blessed with the supernatural abilities of her bloodline, nor was she born from her father's current wife, so her only position in the family was to be of use to them.
Moving to a new household, one that is sufficient and can survive independently of Miyo, it's not that she feels her position as the wife of Kiyoka is threatened, but rather her reason for existence. I think it's nearly perfectly expressed through a very simple scene that leaves Miyo in a room all on her own.
I say almost, because of one key piece. The idea of isolation does exist in the scene, with the two dolls placed upon the cabinet behind her that highlights her separation from Kiyoka, as well as leaving her in the room on her own. I just think that it's the perfect chance to play a little bit with the "truth" of the scene and have the doors to the room close on Miyo, completely isolating her due to her understanding as a person (the wording for what she says is really well done in that regard as well).
Tumblr media
Okay, one last character to cover for this episode, and that's Kouji. I really did think he was going to be a one-note character, that he'd say he wants to help Miyo but that he wouldn't do anything and then fall into plenty of character tropes. Refreshingly though, his conviction from the first episode remains through is short screen time in this second, as he reiterates his desire to help Miyo in whatever ways he's able to.
Tumblr media
And that's about it for character stuff. A lot of it is well telegraphed to viewers, but personally speaking, I feel like there's a lot of potential left on the table as an adaptation since the supernatural exists within this world. Yeah, did I not mention that earlier? Supernatural abilities, and the group of existences categorized as Grotesqueries, do exist in this world. It's a really interesting twist that fits well and provides quite a few interesting questions. Regardless, having that side of things should really open the doors to all sorts of forms of expression, so I hope that as we explore the idea more we'll move away from this more subdued style of direction.
All in all, it's a second episode that does keep me as engaged and interested as the first. Lifting the curtains on the supernatural, providing a "bombshell" for a mysterious backstory, and even tossing in a few loose plot threads to explore later down the line, it does very well to convert on the interest it garnered through its first episode and find a reason for people to believe that they should stick around for the season. So maybe a bit of a shorter review on my part, but being a character focused series that's rather to the point, there's not a great deal to comment on other than it being good, which it is.
