It quickly became a habit for the both of you. Yet, you still fall for it even if you move your head faster to the right side.

He sometimes complains about his work, not really his co-workers, but mainly the unfairness he often faces. It won't happen a lot, he doesn't like to remain on the subject for long.

Despite not talking about it much, it still helps him to talk about it. It reminds him this unfairness is not and should not be a normal thing.

He might speak more of his patients, mainly what they said to him. Jokes, stories, anecdotes… It's brief but it's daily.

He prefers to listen to what you have to say. He finds your voice soothing. He's a bit surprised when you say the same thing about his. But he's not too shocked. He might get a bit cocky about it and tease you.

He has slightly chapped lips. It's because he bites the skin off. But it's not to the point where it's bloody. He still applies chapstick on because he hates the feeling of chapped lips.

He became a lot more open after borderland. He still struggles with being selfless and open from time to time but at least he tries to be better.

He likes to hold hands with the pinky finger as it's not a full hand holding. He will grow more comfortable with time to hold your hand completely.

He is a light sleeper. Always has been. When he can sleep because there's noise outside he either reads a book or looks at your sleeping form.

When he's too bored he tries to imitate your breathing. He got a hiccup once. Didn't sleep for the whole night despite trying several methods to get rid of it.

He's a decent cook. When he follows the recipe. It's not that he's bad without it, it's that he tends to put "too much of" or "not enough of".

If you don't like cooking you can rely on him to cook for the both of you. But sometimes he will simply order a take-out. It generally happens after long shifts or when he's not in the mood to cook. He likes your compliments about his food even if he acts like he doesn't care.

He likes when you both read together, it gives him the opportunity to fall asleep on your shoulder.

Chishiya is alive.

He sure as hell didn't feel like it, but he was. The meteorite took a lot out of him, physically and mentally. Waking up in the beeping hospital room with a sudden new look on life, and he was going to do something about it. No more being a messenger for bad news, slowly tearing down people's hope one referral after another.

Dozens of people just experienced the same pain and trauma as he walked around him, some looking better than others. A girl with an amputated leg, a man in a coma as he passed by his room, and a girl and boy walking hand in hand with injuries littered over them. Humanity– always finding love in terrible suitaions.

Chishiya stood in one of the hospital common rooms, people-watching as he always does. God– it feels like a lifetime had passed since the meteorite. Chishiya was familiar with the whirring and beeping sounds of hospitals, people chatting and crying, and the strong smell of disinfectants and bleach. He was a doctor, all these things filled his life to the brim, it was familiar.

Even you.

You, who stood across the room; tucked into a corner (like chishiya), people-watching, snacking on crackers, and keeping yourself comfortably hidden. Yes, you’d caught his eyes. But something felt off deep inside his stomach, something was off about you. Almost like you were too familiar, chishiya could see a lifetime in your eyes and this is the only time he's ever seen you. Maybe, it wasn't?

Chishiya knew better than to laser focus on one person in the room, because your head perked up. Right into his direction, but chishiya’s gaze didn't falter– he couldn't even if he wanted to. The pull towards you was too intense, it made him dizzy. shock, confusion, remembrance? Flashed across your face, similar to him.

A small, sweet smile grew on your face. Fuck, what medication did they put him on? That meteorite really did a deal on him because suddenly he can’t breathe. For a moment he thought maybe his stitched came undone, half expecting to see blood soaking his scrubs when he looked down. But no– it was just you. Chishiya’s has never seen a smile so familiar, yet foreign.

Your eyes narrowed in his direction, like you were trying to read him. Something many people found difficult in the past, Chishiya didn’t put up a fight or a stone-cold face. Chishiya narrowed his eyes back, like a challenge.

So wrapped up in you that he didn't see the teenage boy wheeling a little too close to his toes in a wheelchair. “Ow!” chishiya yelped.

“Ah! I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” the boy began to spew out a plethora of apologies, frantically bowing his head to the elder.

“It's okay!” chishiya reassure, the sting in his toe had already been subdued– an easy injury compared to the bandaged and stitched-up ones he gained a few days ago. “Seriously, it’s okay.”

The boys' apologies slowed and he wheeled off, practically still bowing. Chishiya chuckled under his breath at the gesture. Looking back up to find you again, weird– what's got into him? Your spot ghosted empty and chishiya’s eyes frantically searched for you, only to find your back now turned to him and trudging down the hallways. Right as his eyes landed on you, your neck turned and you glanced back at chishiya.

A challenge indeed.

Chishiya curiously cocked his head, looking something like a cat. And then one foot in front of another, chishiya was following you down the hallway. He wasn't sure why, maybe he didn’t need a reason. I mean, he almost died, chishiya felt like he didn’t need a solid reason to do anything anymore besides what he wanted. And he wanted to follow the beautiful, mysterious, and weirdly familiar person around in a hospital. Like cat and mouse.

And that's how chishiya ended up in a quieter, more intimate area. Middle of a hallway, near a set of tables and a vending machine. Usually, where loved one would sit weary-eyed and waiting for good news. You came to a halt, chishiya stopped. You turned around slowly, that sweet smile that made chishiya’s stomach feel weird (apart from the wounds.)

“You're following me.”

Something that would so usually sound like a question, was a statement. Because it was meant to be, because you knew he was from the beginning. You intended on it. Chishiya already likes you. And hell– your voice almost gave him whiplash, so silk and sweet. Echoing distantly in his head, like he's heard it a million times before.

“And you wanted me too,” chishiya replied coyly. His voice felt so scratching and his throat burned as he spoke, being without water and unconscious for too long. Shoving his hands in his pockets, leaning back slightly. Even half dead he must keep up his cool-guy image.

You didn’t reply, only a wider grin growing on your face. And chishiya found it hard to bite back one of his own. How so uncharacteristic of him – he felt so warm.

“Maybe.” you finally said.

Chishiya hummed, beginning to close the distance – one foot in front of another – between the two of you.

You watched him intently, chishiya knew it. Normally he’d perceive this as someone sizing him up, but your eyes told a different story as they trailed up his body. Something that'd make his ears hot and red.

“Meteor?” you asked, gesturing to his wounds. Chishiya nodded. “Me too.”

It was awkward for a moment, but not uncomfortable. The silence was deafening as if it wasn't meant for the two of you. Like there were so many words only on the tip of his tongue, words unsaid, words he didn’t even know – but they were begging to be spoken.

You were the first to break the silence, stepping closer. Now only 2 or 3 feet in front of him. “Have I, sorry, this is weird– but, have we met before? Like even passed each other on the streets.”

“Not to my knowledge.”

You hummed, looking around to avoid the intense eye contact that tugged you closer, and closer and–

“Would you like to know me?” chishiya said, his eyes not leaving yours. A weird sense of home lay in your eyes, chishiya was ready to jump fully in.

You tried to cover the eagerness in you, waiting a moment. Dramatically tapping a finger to your chin as you thought. “I think that’d be nice.”

Chishiyas lip quirked up, following yours.

He may not know you the way he feels, but he will.

𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐲𝐚:

• Honestly to him it was a 50/50 feeling about you joining the game with him, the poor man was gonna have a heart attack if the game was a single winner game but luckily for him it wasn’t!!! So now he feels a lot more relief, especially since he’s got you as his partner.

• Chishiya sat you down like disobedient dog cause he knew you’d mess around in some way, he knows you to well. It was quite frightening to the other players on how quickly your attitude changed after Chishiya’s lecture. He doesn’t want to worry about you picking the wrong answer on purpose.

• Chishiya knows your super irresponsible but your also very smart so Chishiya trust you, but not with yourself. He immediately side-eyes you the moment you make a suicide joke, and tells you to take this seriously. You immediately tell him he’s a kill joy which has him staring at you strangely.

• Most of the game was just the two of you watching the other players and trying to investigate who the Jack player was, along with watching others die in the game. Though an hour into the game you already had your suspicions about who the Jack player was, which Chishiya decided to listen to since it was something he trusted you with.

• The two of you are mostly seen at the cafeteria table eating cookies together and talking with each other, while the two of you where offered to join this pretty lady’s group the both of you where quick to deny it. Why rely on others when you two have each other?

• When staying overnight in the game, you definitely had Chishiya cuddling in the same bed as you, he was quite defensive about it but after your annoying pleads he let you cuddle your face into his back while the both of you slept. It’s been a while since you two have gotten to sleep so comfortably, especially since no one could get out of their way to kill you.

• Once the game ended you two walked out hand in hand like a regular couple would, letting the last two players torment the Jack player till he died, a satisfied grin appeared on your face watching the airship explode in the sky, Chishiya definitely gave you a concerned stare before shrugging and holding your hand tighter as you two continued onto your next game. ____________

𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚:

• You and Banda were the last players to enter together, though most of the players already assumed you two were close since you walked in with each other with hands together. 

• When a random dude wanted to join the two of you, the both of you gave each other a look before allowing him to join you. Banda has to keep an eye out on the guy who so boldly tried crowding you two!

• Banda doesn’t really care how you behave in the game at all, You could be silly and goofy or just act cold and sadistic it doesn’t affect him since he’s not worried about you two dying. 

• After Banda found out that Yaba and Momoka were fucking in the prison cell he probably asked you if you wanted to do the same after naming your suit shape for that round. Yaba and Momoka weren’t the only players annoying other players and having fun that night. 

• Banda has his arm around your waist 24/7 throughout the game, He isn’t ashamed about P.D.A. but he also doesn’t want to be taken lightly by other players, he’s gotten at least three people to betray their partners.

• During the nights you two slept the most comfortably, the two of you have your arms wrapped around each other in a death grip, refusing to let the other go. You unfortunately end up falling off the bed even though you guys are gripping onto each other for dear life 

• At the end of the game, it turned out to be Enji who was the Jack in the game! While some other player left, Banda and Aki decided to have some fun trying to get information out about the boy, two bad for both of you he didn’t last very long.

𝐀𝐤𝐢:

• He found it a bit irritating how you weren’t taking the game seriously, hell you weren’t even listening to the rules at all! He probably criticizes you for it and tells you to pay better attention or you’ll end up dying if you continue to play games like that. I mean he isn’t gonna be in every game you play, so how are you gonna survive the other ones if you don't pay attention?

• Aki has a firm grip on you 24/7 throughout the entire game, like a dog on a leash. You expect your fate though because your hubby was hot as hell looking upset with you, after all your favorite hobby was to annoy the living hell out of him.

• You’ve probably made a suicidal joke in front of other players, making it sound like a goal/ dream of yours to happen. All the other players think of you as insane and avoid you at every chance they get. Aki said he was embarrassed by you, yet still followed you around the game area like a guard dog.

• The two of you are surprisingly always found together in the kitchen, mostly because of you. You tend to take a whole basket of snacks with you around the place to eat during the entire game, too bad none of the other players seemed to have a huge appetite.

• Aki does NOT welcome other players to join your group, if anyone asks they’d probably get flipped off but if any of them ask if you could read their suit Aki intentionally gives them the wrong answer. You find it a bit mean but Aki just tells you it’s for your own sake and brushes it off.

• Sleeping together at night is one of the most fun times in your opinion! You got your hubby to agree to let you sleep on top of him, which got you face first into his chest and his arms wrapping around you to keep you from falling. Before Aki could go to sleep you blurted out who you thought the Jack was before going back to sleep and Aki stayed awake the whole night figuring out why that answer made so much sense. Why are you so smart yet so fucking stupid!?!? 

• At the end of the game when it turned out that Enji was the Jack player, you had the most cheeky grin and poked Aki with a bunch of ‘I told you so’ Aki wasn’t very pleased about it but what the hell. You stayed at the game area with him until he had fun torturing Enji till he gave up and died. Aki said he was no fun, barely slipping out any information about the Borderland world which you giggled about!

𝐊𝐲𝐮𝐦𝐚:

• You and the entire band were just standing there while Kyuma was trying to set up the rules on your guy's new game, with all of you voting, bickering, and suggesting ideas till you all settled on the game rules and let the games begin.

• Since you guys were part of the game-making rules you just had to beat other players playing your game, you weren’t complaining one bit, especially when Kyuma decided to go nude during the entire game! A+ view for you to be honest, definitely made sexual comments to Kyuma which made him laugh or stare at you amused while your other teammates were gagging.

• When the first players joined you were more than thrilled to see them, honestly you had a 50/50 chance of winning and that had your blood pumping after staying in this world. The other 6 contestants were super serious about it which had you amused a bit, also seeing another ’couple’ in the game! To bad it was your team or theirs!

• After being broken into your teams, the 6 of you split your points evenly, You and Uta were assigned to guard your bases together while the other four men were going around grabbing points for your team. There wasn’t much for you and Uta to do other then say random shit to each other.

• You and Uta looked at each other worried at the fact the other team was leading in by 5000 points, that’s where all 6 of you had a small meeting where they all agreed to risk their lives to touch the base pole, While you were the first to quickly volunteer you were also the first one to be shut down by Kyuma who disagreed, saying it was yours and Uta job to protect the base.

• After the whole base situation three of your members came in with 10,000 points! So the 6 of you decide to go into pairs of 2, agreeing to go find items and other players to gain points since they probably wouldn’t have the guts to go to your base. Which was right! Good for you cause the rest of the game was you getting to hold Kyuma's hand and find items together like a lovely couple!

• The moment your team was 30,000 points ahead for the other players you all just hung out at the base, with you all standing around bored. However, after 20 minutes, you convinced Kyuma to lie down with you on the floor, just waiting for the next hour for the game to finish off.

• When 10 minutes of the game were remaining, you and Kyuma decided to go walking around the harbor until you two were met by the large ocean and the beautiful sunlight hitting it. While you sat down on the edge of the harbor, you gushed to Kyuma about how pretty the ocean was and how beautiful it would be to commit suicide here. Kyuma was quick to place his hand over your head and smack it down, telling you not to say such things before you two heard footsteps from behind you.

• The two of you watched Arius bow his head to Kyuma, thanking him for the game and his kind words earlier, that he couldn’t stop thinking about it. The boy kept on ranting till there was a minute left in the game before asking for one last handshake him Kyuma. You told Kyuma to hold your hand while he gave the opponent one last handshake, it was obvious Aruis lost five hundred points but only looked at with a smile before thanking Kyuma one last time and dying as the time ran out.

• Kyuma looked at the dead body upset, saying that guy was good opponent. You let out a small laugh at Kyuma's comment before kissing his hand and squeezing it tightly as the game officially finished

“You did a good job anyways Kyuma, I plan on living as long as you do well, alright?”

𝐍𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢:

• You and Niragi were both the very first people to enter the King of Clubs game, wrapping the device around your wrist so confidently. The both of you didn’t seem to fear death one bit! One didn’t care and was willing to risk everything, while the other was a Suicidal manic who desired death themselves.

• Arisu and his friends were not amused to see the both of you standing there waiting for the game to start, yet all unhappily joined the game to hopefully get back home. Too bad for them you guys didn’t care much about that, of course getting back home would be important, but not as fun as enjoying a game.

• Niragi scowled down at the ass-naked man named Kyuma explaining the rules to the six of you, he especially didn’t like the way he touched you to explain the rule system. He was barking like a dog at Kyuma which you gladly made fun of him for.

• Arisu said that it would be uneven to just have one person gaurd the base so he had Kodai and Usaig gaurding. You and Niragi obviously teamed up together, going through multiple creates and tagging other players through your searches. When the two of you came back to the base, you both were a bit surprised that your teammates were less hostile to you.

• After the other teams pulled the stunt with your guy's base. You groaned at the inconveniencing position the other team left you all. Niragi wasn’t happy about it either, he was quick to make fun of Kodai for failing to keep the base safe while your teammates told him to leave Kodai alone.

• After like an hour of searching and your team’s failed attempt to get all your points back to win back from the other team (or at least have the same advantage) you and Niragi wandered and mopped around for a while, it didn’t help that Niragi started coughing up blood now. You had to hand him your coat to use as a napkin which you weren’t very happy about.

• Once there was an hour left into the game and your team still wasn’t gaining any points, Niragi just said ‘Fuck it’ and started pulling on your shirt, telling you to have sex with him one last time before the both of you die didn’t in this stupid game. Niragi didn’t care if you wanted to open up a create to do it or just fuck on the floor but you better decide quickly cause this man is already trying to take his pants off along with your shirt.

• The two of you were just lying against each other after your session, quietly glancing at the timer that said 5 minutes left and your team still has no advantage. Surprisingly Niragi had his arms wrapped around you very tightly as he kissed your forehead a few times and mumbled out some ‘love you’s here and there while you wait for the timer to hit zero. Suddenly an announcement was made about your team gaining 500 more points and getting a higher score an the opponent's team.

• The two of you stared at the screen with wide eyes, and both of you said ‘Holy shit’ in unison before you two slowly looked at each other in disbelief. That was the first time in a while Niragi threw his hands around you, pulling you into a death hug, before immediately stopping. You made sure to make fun of him when you two were walking out of the game arena. He really loves hates you.

"What do you mean? I'm being careless by talking to people?", you exclaimed. Chishiya was being more and more unreasonable lately. You knew he thought you were gullible and naive, and you suspected that's why he decided to get closer to you; who'd suspect you, after all? You weren't all that wide eyed ingenue, you just believed that people could still be good in this world. Kuina shared the same belief, and he wasn't nagging on her like he did with you.

"Of course you can! But not so much to make yourself vulnerable to threats! What are you doing, cozying up to someone you don't even know during a game?", his tone raised the slightest bit, what was already a lot for Chishiya. He may have been acting unreasonably but he knew what he was saying had reason. Chishiya had feelings for you, and once he got to know you the desire to protect you only grew. He knew that you were selfless to the point of bordering stupidity, and would sacrifice yourself for someone. What made Chishiya's heart clench even more is that you'd sacrifice for him given the chance. Without even thinking. The flame of his anger was fanned at the thought that someone may have used your good will to trick you into dying in their place if he wasn't around.

"I wasn't cozying up! I was talking to a teammate! On a game of clubs! You know, one of those we depend on other people to live?", you said, exasperated. You took a calming breath and sighed. "You know what, think what you want of me. I'm tired, I don't want to fight", you started to pace around, something you often did to release anxious energy after a game.

"We're not fighting. We're having a conversation", Chishiya deadpanned, raising his eyebrows when you turned to look at him.

"A conversation of you laying it thick the implication that I'm some dumb thing with stars in my eyes? That I can let anyone trick me into sacrifice?", you said, and his eyes darted across the room, avoiding your eyes. Red-handed. "Chishiya, listen to me", you sat besides him, taking his hand in yours. "I may still be a bit too hopeful of people sometimes. Everyone copes in their own way, right?", you earned yourself a dry chuckle. "But I am hopeful because of what I've seen. Yeah, there's death and sadness and betrayal but there's good things. Friendship and love. For every bad person there's a few good ones, I truly believe that. And don't worry about me. You and Kuina drilled in my brain to be street smart", you smiled. Now it was your turn to avoid his eyes. "The only person in this entire world that can trick me is you, Chishiya. I trust you wholeheartedly", you whispered, clenching his hand in yours tight but still refusing to turn your warm face towards his. He was your lifeline but made you mortified at the same time.

"I don't think you're dumb. I'm sorry if I came across that way. I wouldn't have made an ally out of you if I didn't trust your abilities. And... I wouldn't made a friend out of you if I thought you're stupid. I just didn't want to lose you, that's all", he said. "I trust you too. Wholeheartedly", he said, giving you one of his Monalisa smiles. Sutil enough he may not even be smiling at all.

"Not in the way I trust you. Not by far", you said, finally managing to gather yourself enough to look at him. You may die at any point, Chishiya was kind enough to remind you. So what if he didn't love you back? You had the right to say it and he had the right to know. Even if he scolded you for wearing your heart on your sleeve. Even if he betrayed you.

"Why do you say that?", he asked, frowning. Did you know believe him? After all this time, he thought he was opening up to you. That you saw something more inside of him, the optimism, the sliver of hope he kept hidden for emergencies and you.

"Because I love you. And I trust you. Blindly", you said after being in silence for a while, and the atmosphere of the room shifted. One whole week. They were here one whole week, and he missed it.

You knew Chishiya was going to come soon too. You cannot just run away you have to warn him.

You started shifting towards the door as the king entered more into the room. You knew you were not going to get out of here without being injured or killed if you just bolted, you HAD to make a distraction.

Chishiya's bomb came into your mind. You were planning what should you do when the King Of Dimond Blimp blew up, it was Chishiya. King looked at it and you bolted but not before throwing Chishiya's bomb in King's feet. So before he can turn and shoot you the bomb created another distraction.

Maaaan you've never run faster than this in your entire life. You knew that you cannot run faster than the bullets so you took to a low alley and started moving in the Crossing's direction so that you can warn Chishiya once he come there.

But on the way, you met up with Arisu and Usagi. You were so happy to see both of them! Finally some familiar faces. You explained the situation and they came with you.

Usagi was a bit hurt and King of spades' blimp was nowhere to be seen so you two went into a general store to get the supplies and that is when you heard a gunshot.

You two came rushing out and on your way as you heard a couple of more rounds being shot. You were sure that it wasn't King because the sounds of all of them were different.

As you entered the crossing your eyes landed on Chishiya who was hiding behind a car. When you looked closely & he looked hurt and then you saw blood. Everything blurred out and all you managed to say silently was, "Chishiya" as you ran towards him.

Then you spotted Niragi who was intently looking at you as he pulled up his gun and said, "Oh yeah, I almost forgot about you two." and started shooting in your direction.

You made it behind the car in time but Usagi couldn't because of her injury and that is when he shot his last bullet at her.

It was all in a blur and slow motion. You were asking her to come to you but she couldn't. Then you saw Chishiya run over to her. You heard two shots.

As your eyes land on Chishiya, his white jacket had two huge blood stains. He saved her. You ran with all your will and stopped him from dropping directly on the floor as you called out his name loudly.

"Why would you do that?" Usagi said as she came along with Arisu. "I wanted to do something that was a bit out of Character," he said his eye glued on you.

More than him being hurt he was worried about you. He was trying to cheer you up. He knew that this was a bit selfish of him because he promised you that you two will get out of here. Now he did this but it was important for him. His eyes were constantly glued on yours and as you start to tear up he put a hand on yours as he said...

"I know it is thanks to people I know here. To Kyuzuryu, Arisu, and You." he looked back at you. Arisu cut in, "Hey, before what were you gonna say?" Chishiya looked at Arisu and let out a weak chuckle that sounded more like a grunt. His heavy breathing and weak voice were breaking you down slowly. You didn't know how to stop this. For the first time, you felt helpless here.

Then he looked back at you not leaving a chance to soak your face in his memories, "Oh yeah." His eyes went back to Arisu and Usagi, "Honest people always seemed stupid to me. I've always loved messing with people who try too hard at life." Then he looked back at you and continued, "I hated selflessness. It's probably because I'm jealous. They all had something I didn't. It was like they could always see what a pathetic and small-minded person I really was." He squeezed your hand, "I was always scared."

Now tears were running like a river you didn't want to stop them. You could hear Arisu and Niragi talking in the background when you pressed your forehead against Chishiya's, "I hope you're not considering this lame speech as your goodbye." as you both chuckle. You could feel Usagi's eyes on you two with curiosity but you couldn't care less.

"Don't bail on me," you said softly as you lift your forehead away from him. He was too weak to answer and before he can gather the courage, the King Of Spades' Blimp came around. You looked back at Chishiya who said, "Don't even think about it." 

"No, I'm staying. I won't leave you." You could hear shooting in the background and people started pouring from the streets. Chishiya took his hand out of his hold and ask you to go. "No! Shut up I'm not leaving!" You said now shouting at him for the fact that he is even suggesting this. "Let's hide them under the cars," Arisu said.

"Are you nuts? This is not going to work. I'm not leaving him here." you said clearly intimidating Arisu. You never raised your voice ever since they knew you.

"Go. I promise I'll be okay. We'll meet again. You have a better chance at saving me if you kill the king" you hated that he was right. So you helped Arisu in shifting them under the cars but not before giving Chishiya a lingering kiss.

You started running into an alley and reunited with Kuina and Ann. As you were running King got close, PRETTY CLOSE, and got a hand of Ann. All of you saved her with team efforts when a guy ran into the king with a car.
