Besides how you've written it before (unless that is your absolute favorite idea), how do you or would you headcannon Bilbo and Thorin accidentally proposing or getting engaged and how would they proceed when they find out or the other accepts the proposal?

Among hobbits, these things tend to be done quietly. Sensibly. Oh, the Tooks have their own ways, and every once in a while a Brandybuck will cause something of a to-do at a birthday party. But good manners in Hobbiton necessitate that such private affairs are, well, private.

Two young people who have been walking out together for some time reach an agreement. Parents are told. Then siblings are told. Then wedding invitations are written and good natured gossip handles the rest. In all honesty, once he reached fifty as a respectable bachelor, Bilbo Baggins felt he was quite safe from anything of the sort ever applying to him.

The point is, that if something of that sort happened to him, it ought to have been a discrete, blushing conversation with a person whom he had "gone a' courting" as it were.

Thorin was holding court. That was something very different and not at all related aside from any esoteric linguistic comparisons. Thorin was sitting on his ridiculous throne in front of hundreds of dwarves talking about taxes and zoning regulations and Balin's schedule for renovating a particularly sacred hall. Then Thorin just turns to Bilbo and says, "You and I will marry in August."

Thorin Oakenshield! How like that awful dwarf to not even make it a question. To just say such a bold thing in front of hundreds of people and expect Bilbo to agree. All of Bilbo's hobbit heart wants to wriggle and blush and despair at hearing something like that from a person he hasn't ever even kissed. Unfortunately, he was sadly used to Thorin's utter lack of manners.

And he was a Baggins.

"April 26," he corrected. "I'm terrible with anniversaries; I shan't bother remembering two."

Nodding regally, with just a hint of red coloring the cheeks above his beard, Thorin turned back to Balin. "Plenty of time to restore the masonry properly, then."

Another week gone, anyone else think time has flown by? To fast, cause I apparantly cant keep up and sometimes life is a bit of a dick! So, this week I managed 13,432 words with and finished and uploaded 2 fics. Not the best but somehow i maaged to write 77,522 words this month (im blaming it on the few days I had no internet and had read all the dowloaded fics I had lol) . I fell in love with A Passion For Mushrooms in 2020. Shortly thereafter, I started getting serious about podfic. It has always been a goal of mine to make this series accessible in audio format -- for myself and everyone else who loves it.

2023 Year Wrap Up

How to Build an Astrolabe Update

Long and busy year and this work had to take a backseat while I was focusing on life. I was hit pretty hard by the fan fiction curse. For those unfamiliar with the fan fiction curse it is a dark curse that takes hold the moment you decide to make a fan fiction where your life takes a hard and sharp and unexpected left turn. A classic example: sorry for the delay, got hit by a bus. I suppose science history fan fiction counts

Most of the writing for the rough draft is done but I had to rework one of the pages after I found essentially the only book to discuss the common error

Rather than release the guide all at once—for my sanity—I am going to be releasing it in parts. I make all the diagrams by hand and this way I can finish labeling them as I go

My goal is to have the first part up in January

The writing needs to be cleaned up, but should be on track for release

“Look, but don’t touch.”

The first time we were able to peer through the pocket dimension into another time and place, we observed a sign bearing those words in what appeared to be a shop or a museum.

There were glass jars preserving the remains of long since departed creatures. While anatomically correct, these wretched things had long since given up any of their natural splendor.

We were unable to linger for long, and didn’t yet have the algorithms well-understood to change our perspective to manipulate the direction or rate of the passing of time. This was little more than a voyeuristic tease, paired with no insubstantial validation: objectively observing events lost to time was now within our grasp.

At first we could only see a few moments from a fixed perspective. Time would move at its natural rate, and when the stream was lost it could not be recovered. There was no sound. No color. We took what we could get and we were glad for it.

We’re a little better at this now. We’re starting to piece together the stories, and I think we’re on to something. Perhaps our exploration teams can piece it together and figure out what went wrong.

Today we don’t have the means to change anything. We can only observe. Though there is hope among us that whatever terrible thing was done can be undone. There is hope among us to feel the grass between our toes, to look up at a blue sky, or to catch a bit of ozone in the air after a Summer storm. Ironically, even if we were able to peer back into a perfect day, we can only imagine what hues of blue were blanketing the skies.

I’ll tell you what I can, when I can. The program is remarkably transparent, and our leaders are encouraging us to share what we’ve learned as we go. Is it because we can’t change anything? I don’t suppose there’s anything to lose at this point.

Aziraphale’s Library Festive Countdown: Week 4

It’s the final week of the festive countdown, and the new year has finally come. To celebrate, here are some wonderful fics to read!

After Midnight by Chrononautical (G) Walking along the Seine on New Year's, Crowley and Aziraphale share a one-time-only kiss.

An excellent fic, which nails their relationship and the new years vibe. Both the descriptive writing and the dialogue is top notch, and I personally also adore the ending.

The Way to Heaven by Mizmak (G) Angel are never supposed to ask “Why” of Heaven, and Aziraphale had seen what happened to those who did. Yet the longer he came to know Crowley, the more he struggled with his duty, and the closer he came to asking the most important question of all: Why could he not choose who to love?

This incredble multichapter fic is one of my favourites. It has every element from forbidden romance, historical elements, and of course lots of festive fun to go with it. The writing is incredible, the plot is gold, and I can’t reccomend this fic enough.

Handmade Gloves with Crowns and Laurels by sylveondreams (G) It's Christmas, and the Them have a nice time in the snow. Wensley is cold.

Short but sweet, this fluffy fic features perfect characterisation for The Them, and is the perfect holiday treat.

The start of the rest of their lives by Fangirlshrewt97 (T) Crowley finally plans that picnic his angel proposed so many years ago, and hopes that everything works out according to plan. (Spoilers: It actually works even better than he expected for once).

Utterly unique in style if not idea, this fic is still memorable thanks to its detailed descriptions, engaging style, and overall sweetness. A fun fic to welcome the new year.

New Year Tradition by Witch_Nova221 (G) Crowley and Aziraphale welcome in their first new year without ties to Heaven and Hell

Short but beautifully written, this fic provides a lovely snapshot into Aziraphale and Crowley’s new years eve, and is sweet and entertaining.

The trouble with dragons by GayDemonicDisaster (scrapheapchallenge) (T) A certain time of year could be problematic for Crowley…Because the last thing he’d been expecting when he wandered into the shopping centre was to come face to face with a dragon.

Loosely based around Chinese new year, this fic is absolutely hilarious. From Aziraphale’s disbelief to the inherent ridiculousness of the situation, it is so funny and so utterly worth the read.

The Turn of the Century by HannibabestheCannibabes (T) An angel and a demon walk into a bar...It's the end of the 14th Century and Aziraphale is all set for a quiet drink and some contemplation. Until he runs into an old friend...

Unique but surprisingly enjoyable, this fic was perfectly in-character and a very interesting read. It was relaxed and enjoyable, while still able to balance several emotions, with a perfect ending.

RJ has been through a lot. He was once Emmet Brickowski, normal guy who found a piece that got stuck to his back. He was told he was The Special, a chosen one who was going to save the world... then got told that the prophecy that came from was made up and he was just a normal guy. He became the symbol of a resistance... then couldn't stop an alien invasion or save his friends from getting kidnapped by said aliens. He couldn't rally a group to rescue them and was unable to pilot through the glassteroid belt. He crashed into an uncharted desert planet and ended up breaking from years of isolation. It's not all bad, though: He managed to get out eventually, change his look and identity to that of Rex Dangervest and decided to end the universe with the power of raptors and time travel.

This also ended in failure. He vanished from the timeline, thought to never be heard from again...

Until he showed up in the Unikingdom. Turns out, he was brought into the timeline by a different timeline's Doctor Fox. He claims to have had to save the universe by going back in time again, but time travel is super confusing. Now, he lives in Action Forest and hangs out with the Unigang. For a former bad guy, he's more than willing to defend the kingdom and write it off as just "keeping his home safe". He's Puppycorn's best friend and Hawkodile's first student. He's also the co-founder and current Commander of the Royal Chrononauts of the Unikingdom... and a proud father to a baby girl who he hopes never follows his footsteps.
