getting emotional over footage of an amateur scuba diver interacting with a coelacanth. they are hunted by large deepwater predators, and here comes a large creature bearing the brightest lights it's ever seen, making strange noises, but it does not shy away. it hovers, calmly, as the diver reaches out and trails a hand down its back. im strongly against the anthropomorphizing of real life animals but the stupid emotional part of me loudly insists this is because it recognizes us, the alternating movements of its four paired limbs matching the diver's four paired limbs, & it is thinking, "hello, cousins, we missed you these 66 million years, it's so good to see you again. welcome back, welcome home."

Skipping angels for a bit, our main protagonists - Charlie Magne and Vagatha 'Vaggie' Magne. Notice something different here?
Charlie Magne was born as an act of Love, and 'The Human Way', as described by her mother, who used to 'make' demons, not bear them. As a very desired and treasured child, she was kept in the Magne Palace for the majority of her life, away from Hell's horrors and bloodshed. At 15 years old, the wildest extermination in millenia happens, and Lucifer sends Charlie all the way down to the Lust Ring to keep her safe.
Charlie since lived in Asmodeus' tower in the atmosphere of love and warmth, yet still hurt by the fact that her parents sent her down with no explanation. Ozzie is kind to Charlie as if she were his own child, but he is as busy as any other royal would be, and Charlie is often left alone to wander the Lust.
At 18 she attends the dancing group Succ Cubes performance, and meets a succubus named Vagatha, the lead dancer of the group. They become friends since then, sharing their sentiment of being alone in the world, as Vaggie isn't really fond of publicly performing suggestive dances, and Charlie is left alone by all her parental figures. They later become girlfriends despite class gap, and Vaggie gets to live with Charlie in the tower. It's the event that causes Ozzie to consider such kind of romance for the first time.
At Charlie's 25th birthday, Lucifer calls for her to finally fulfill her duty as the Heiress to the throne of Hell and try to fix what's broken. But how?.. Charlie and Vaggie go all up to Pride to find out.

Great news for monotreme lovers!!!
Tumblr media
The Sir David Attenborough's Long-Beaked Echidna (Zaglossus attenboroughi) has been sighted for the first time since 1961!
Also known as the Cyclops Long-Beaked Echidna, this nocturnal critter was first described by Western scientists in 1961 during the Dutch colonial era of what was then known as Dutch New Guinea. It was only described from a fragmentary preserved specimen (pictured below) and was of course named after the famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough. However, I do want to point out that, as is the case with many newly discovered species, it was known to the native people of this region way before this and was traditionally hunted for both food and for ceremonial peace offerings. However, according to my research since the species was classified as Critically Endangered, the native villagers were very enthusiastic about its conservation and agreed not to hunt them in order to help preserve the species.
Tumblr media
Z. attenboroughi is native to the Cyclops Mountain Chain in northern Indonesian New Guinea and feeds mostly on worms, ants, termites, and other invertebrates by using their long beaks to forage through the soil and creating distinct “nose pokes”. For a long time, these “nose pokes” were the only sign scientists had that this species hadn’t gone extinct. The last unconfirmed sighting by locals was in 2005, though some tracks and burrows that were thought to belong to the species were discovered in 2007.
Now, over 60 years after it was initially described, an expedition of scientists from Oxford University to the Cyclops Mountains has resulted in this elusive monotreme being videotaped by a game trail camera.

Attenborough’s Long-Beaked Echidna might somewhat resemble hedgehogs in appearance and behavior, however, they are one of only five species of egg-laying mammals known as monotremes! The other four species are the Short-Beaked Echidna, Western Long-Beaked Echidna, Eastern Long-Beaked Echidna, and the Platypus. The Attenborough’s Long-Beaked Echidna is the smallest species of Echidna and is apparently more closely related to the Short-Beaked Echidna than it is to the other two species of Long-Beakeds. It also possesses a more reddish coloration. All species of monotremes are known for, as I mentioned before, laying eggs instead of giving live birth like placental mammals and marsupials do. Monotremes also lack nipples and instead produce milk for their young out of modified sweat glands like how the early ancestors of all mammals did. Male Platypi/Platypuses (both terms are correct) and Echidnas also have ankle spurs which are highly venomous in the case of the Platypus, but Echidnas seem to have lost their venom and instead use them to help dig. Apparently, they also seasonally secrete a creamy substance their spurs but this, while kinda gross, is harmless.
While the rediscovery of this species is super exciting, we mustn’t forget that Attenborough’s Long-Beaked Echidna is considered Critically Endangered and is still at risk of extinction. Habitat loss and poaching seem to be the biggest threats to this species and many other unique creatures endemic to Oceania.

🦈 Daily Shark Fact: 🦈
The Daggernose Shark once occurred in the shallow tropical waters of the central western Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, from Venezuela to northern Brazil, making it one of the smallest ranges of any elasmobranch species. It no longer occurs in areas of Brazil where it was previously common, due to the threat of bycatch in unregulated artisanal gillnet fisheries operating throughout its range.

A pair of Chirpers acting out an old tale commonly told before the beginning of predator migration
Tumblr media
a big part of Chirper culture revolves around their relationship to their numerous predators, dealing not only with the grief of losing loved ones, but also with the question of why they are the subjects of predation in the first place.
Most cultures seek to demonize their predators, framing them as soulless monsters and serving some villain or one of their antagonistic gods. Other stories frame these servants more like unwilling victims or even Chirpers turned monster under one of these villains.
The actual reason why they are under such heavy predation is increased tectonic activity disrupting and destroying already withering food webs, forcing predators whose prey were now dying off to migrate in' search of food, eventually reaching the steppes the Chirpers inhabited, though Chirpers would only gain this knowledge at the start of industrilization.
The play above takes place mid industrialization, in a time when the exploitation of natural resources takes more and more living space away not only from Chirpers but also from spiritually significant plants and animals, not to mention the steadily decreasing quality of life.
The result of this discontent were plays like the one above; this one adapting one of the old predator stories of two siblings, one being cursed into a Spearer. Instead of the victim of a witches spell, the cursed sibling changes into a predator willfully, seeking to get revenge on their sibling who had tricked them into stealing a treasure for them and leaving them behind, causing havoc along the way.
Don't know what the heck a Chirper is? -> Here you can see one!

It's really hilarious to see Obitine listed as one of the "healthy" ships in Star Wars along with such glowing examples as Kanan and Hera and Bail and Breha just because Obitine happen to not have a big age gap when Obitine is honestly one of the least healthy ships in Star Wars and the only reason it's not at the bottom with Anidala is because Satine and Obi-Wan actively choose not to be in a relationship canonically.

Kinda extrapolating in a nitpicky way from a single line but with Andrias's 'One life for thousands' thing like. LA has a population in the millions. I think Andrias straight-up has no idea how hugelarge Earth is. Thousands seems reasonable for a large population center to him.
Listen okay bear with me LISTEN. Amphibia is canonically roughly the size of Australia. which is only about FIVE PERCENT of Earth's surface landmass. Like Team Imperialism was already COMEDICALLY underprepared to actually invade Earth let alone actually WIN but this is hysterical.
Like there'd be a lot of civilian casualties + it's not like anyone would just let them invade but also, despite the vast gulf in tech, on the whole between sheer size and SO Many other factors (I have a truly bloated draft laying around Somewhere talking about these factors. Somewhere), Earth would have chewed the invasion up and spit it out like particularly cheap gum.
And what about Darcy you ask? Easy, they were going off of ~1000 year old data which was. whew. iirc human population around 1000 AD was estimated as like. A fraction of a percent of our modern global population. Ole Darce was more interested in tech and military capabilities rather than raw numbers and other seemingly basic bitch intel that supposedly would be less of a factor in the case of Alien Technological Superiority (which lol. lmao. bro ur just as dead if they kill u with a pointy stick or with a scifi railgun)

something. Interesting to me is when human characters going up against a more powerful being (alien, divine, transformed human, etc) they use the phrase "we're like ants/flies/mice to them", not only to convey their comparative lack of power, but also to convey the disregard the being has for humans. Because it implies that the human norm is to disregard these creatures, or even dislike them, and doesn't really reflect on what that may imply about human cultures where that sentiment is indeed common.
It reminds me about how I was talking to someone at work and mentioned how much the bugs bother me at work because they get on my papers, and I have to smack my clipboard to get them off without squishing them. He immediately said something like "why? Squish them, they're annoying". It baffled me for a second, so I just told him I don't like to have stains on my papers, since that seemed like a reason he'd understand- but really, when I accidentally squish bugs while brushing them off, I feel bad. They aren't hurting me. They don't even comprehend that they're annoying or why.

Sumatran Elephant Elephas maximus maximus Family: Elephantidae Genus: Elephas Conservation Status: Critically Endangered
Working on this one was a real challenge. The lighting of the photo was difficult to figure out, and the shapes on the head were at an angle that I wasn't familiar with. Anyway, the outcome got me satisfied. I had no idea about this subspecies until I got to study elephants. Very interesting subspecies. Join the club to know more about this and more animals. Also, you can get access to the book in the making and the Esticker album. Click here ____________________________________________ Thank you guys for your support. 🦈 Daily Shark Fact: 🦈
The Pondicherry Shark is an extremely rare species of requiem shark. It was last seen in India in 1979, but was rediscovered in 2016 and is now only known from about 20 museum specimens. It is thought to be fairly small, reaching a maximum length 3 feet 4 inches. It is also difficult to identify due to it's physical characteristics, which are similar to other shark species.
