How many words have you written this year?

Just over 114k. Less than last year, but still nothing to sniff at XD

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

That's a really hard question. Today, because something reminded me of it, I reread Sun, and Moon, and Stars decay, my Space AU. It's the longest fic I've written (by fic standards it's still not very long) and I think I did the best job of plotting, putting together an actual story with an arc and I liked how I assembled it and the different persepctives I've brought in.

But I've honestly got to give an honorary mention of Try a little Tenderness (which closed out my year long post-s2 series), Babe, I'm fistfighting with fire (the one that did actually get the most kudos), and Down to the River (a look at Lila struggling with being a mum, mostly because she's being too hard on herself).

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

7 or 8, I have a very untidy system and can't properly work that out XD

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?

eh, I will admit I probably reread the smut the most, cause like, what can I say, I write what I find hot. But when I say the most, I don't think I've read any of my fics more than three times. Babe, I'm fistfighting with fire I read a couple of times, because I wrote it to go with canon, and I do really quite enjoy that one. (Please remember I got into this nonsense because there wasn't enough D/L fic, so this is less about ego and a lot more about the fact, that I have written so many of the fics that are out there)

They stay like this for a while, tightly pressed against each other, arms clinging to one another, and breathing the same air.

Diego’s the first to break the silence, but, Lila notes, he doesn’t open his eyes.

“Do you really want another baby?”

Lila loops her arms around his neck, to give herself a moment to think. And just because she wants to.

She hadn’t really meant anything by it, but now that she’s actually considering it—

“Yeah, I think so. Don’t you?”

“I’ll have as many children with you as you want.”

“Is that supposed to be a yes?”

“I have five brothers and a sister, Lila. I can’t even imagine what being an only child would be like, so yeah, I’d love to have more. With you!”

“I’m not having six more children, Diego,” Lila says indignantly. It’s easier to pretend to be annoyed with him right now than acknowledge the flutter in her chest that’s almost making her feel a bit dizzy. She’s never actively thought about deliberately getting pregnant.

She can’t fathom how strong the sudden and overwhelming feeling of want is.

Diego seems to recognise her sudden excitement and flutter of nerves. He sobers a little, gives her a soft smile, and gently strokes his hand over her hair at the side of her head, cupping her face.

“How about we start with one then, huh?”

And he doesn’t let her answer, instead leans in and kisses her apprehensions away.

How problematic is your tua ship?

0 - Entirely unproblematic. Visssy, and klave for example are neither incest nor in any way unhealthy, also gay so yay for them

1 - Perfect, if not for that one thing. Be it incest or slight toxicity, they aren't that bad and with a slight adjustment, you can write entirely Pure fanfiction about them. Prime example is Klaus/Diego. Diego/Lila also fits in here because they are half-incest, half-toxic. I'd put Five/Dolores here too, because she's.. you know...

2 - Ships that are problematic, but meh, you do you (im sure you're working through some trauma). Like Klaus/Ben - they have an ok relationship, but its incest, also a little bit mmmmmmmmean and non-consent-y. Also Leonard/Vanya, because that was some manipulation and definitely fucked.

3 - This ship will get you anon hate, and will enrage people with how messed up it is. Ex: Luther/Allison- not only do they call the same person daddy, they have some very fucked up codependency/living in the past thing going on, how can you think they could ever be happy together?

4- Straight up messed up, due to context, but would be an a-ok relationship in an AU where everything is different. You will get death threats. Most Five ships go here, Fiveya, Five/Diego, Five/Klaus - they'd be fine, honestly, if it wasn't for the incest and the 13 Again thing, they are very moral and healthy ships.

5- Unforgivable, you are going to jail and then to hell for it. Five/Handler - Bad Vibes all over, from the workplace harassment to the general harassment and murderous intent, to the kid body thing. This ship is so toxic i genuinely think incest is the more moral choice.

Nine sentence Wednesday

Thank you @yeah-klave for the tag!  This is from the main thing I’ve been picking at for months aka the stealth ratatouille recipe.  I thing everyone I know has already been tagged aha.  Also its still Wednesday for like an hour shhh

Klaus eats about half his portion, and then starts just moving things around on his plate in a distracted motion, bouncing one crossed leg over the other in a preoccupied fidget.  His shoulders are slightly hunched, and he absentmindedly stares at his food, letting his hair hide half his face.  Dave realizes the scene was perhaps not entirely for his benefit alone.  Klaus often returns from family outings somehow smaller, somehow almost meek.  Dave has no problem being bossed around to help Klaus regain some assertiveness.

He asks, “How did brunch go?”

Klaus sighs and puts down his fork, “Five found some old papers of daddy dearest’s that refer to the Commission.  They’re pushing to have me summon him.”

“Do they know how you ‘summoned’ him the first time?”

The last time Klaus saw his siblings was at Allison and Patrick's wedding. A lot had changed since then; including the not-so-accidental, irreversible loss of his sight.

11. *Numbers (series)* by @veteranklaus | this series legit made me disocciate for a few days especially since I just finished The Accident by Wiesel - the Holocaust is a trigger warning - very dark - the writing is literally award-winning, like the research done? the empathy paid to the characters? god tier!! I’ve written several research papers on post/during-holocaust times and i just want to applaud you for the work you’ve done in writing this - 2+ parts

The briefcase transports Klaus into a time to fall in love with a bookshop owner and photography enthusiast with soft amber eyes and a yellow star sewn into all of his clothes. And later, Klaus will stand next to that same man behind a fence, and he'll hold his hands up to a camera and pray to a merciless god that his siblings open a history book and find him.

12. *At the Edge of the Universe* by @veteranklaus | this is turning into a veteranklaus rec post but i don’t care - this is the life Klaus and Dave deserved!!! - the gays are really winning today y’all - cottagecore but make it the 1970s - 58k+

There is a knock at the door. With a heavy sigh, Klaus untangles himself from the mess of Dave's limbs with a mutter of 'I've got it'. They rarely get visitors out here, their closest neighbour being about three miles away, and Klaus didn't even hear a car or see any headlights outside.

He opens his door, expecting to see old Mrs Richards asking for one of the dog treats they always keep for the occasions her dog runs off. He does not, however, expect to see his siblings - all of them, standing outside his door. Well, Five is being held up by Diego, and Vanya is being carried by Luther, but they are all there, on his doorstep, on this evening in 1970.

Would you be willing to elaborate on the differences between Klaus x Dave and x FemReader fics?

I'm interested in Klave in canon but don't really read the fics. I read some x Reader fics but skip a lot of them, so I'm not aware of the overall characterization trends.

(I'd wonder how Klave, FemReader and non-FemReader compare but that last one is pretty rare)

It's mostly because Dave is this Daddy and Klaus is a baby who can't take care of himself and they forget he's got as many mental issues as physical (addiction).

The Fem!Reader ones tend to be way more on the nose with his personality. Writing his addictions and kinks and making him more dominant.

some random klaus / dave / klave smut and affection and angsty hcs (as of: 8/25/20)

Today I did something a little different for my Almost Daily Drawing Countdown to The Umbrella Academy Season Two...

As some (maybe all?) of you may know, I also write fan fiction over on AO3 (my username is TwistedIllusions) but I’ve been kind of stuck in a rut for it. Klaus’ childhood training (trauma) rears its ugly head at the strangest (and worst) moments.

He won’t admit it to himself - at least not out loud to anyone other than Ben - but it’s definitely a form of post traumatic stress disorder. He has his triggers. They all do. They’re different for each of them, of course - each sibling has their own fucked-up shit that puts into their own little unique downward spiral - but they all have them, and they all handle it differently.

(For instance, for someone who throws fucking knives, it comes as a surprise that Diego still flinches whenever someone unexpectedly raises a hand at him or throws something in his direction. Vanya has always been sensitive to loud noises and Klaus has always wondered what their father did to her when none of them were watching.)

Klaus knows intimately that his main trigger is confined spaces. It makes sense, after all of those nights locked in the mausoleum, but he never really realized it until one night at a party, he nearly had a panic attack when locked in a closet playing a rather innocent game of seven minutes in heaven.

But apparently, at thirty years old, he’s still getting to know himself, because it isn’t until he’s in Vietnam, walking the perimeter of camp on his own that he realizes that deep down, he’s still one of daddy’s little soldiers. It happens so fast, Klaus barely even registers what he’s done until he’s kneeling over none other than a terrified and surprised looking Dave, who lies beneath him on the forest floor. One moment, Klaus is by himself, trying to block out the sounds of nearby spirits (because it’s been three days since his last good hit and they’re starting to slip though) and the next, there’s a hand on his shoulder and suddenly, all those years of training are kicking in as he spins around, using the other man’s weight against him and laying him out on the damp ground before he can even think about what he’s doing.

Fifteen minutes later, as he and Dave sit underneath a nearby tree and Klaus examines his injuries - he’s sporting a pretty good shiner and swollen lip - Klaus can’t help but feel ashamed and embarrassed. And Dave - beautiful, perfect Dave - simply smiles.

“Sorry I punched you in the face,” Klaus mutters, his fingers stopping short of Dave’s chin as he reaches out to touch him, albeit gently this time. Dave doesn’t flinch when he reaches out, but that doesn’t stop Klaus from feeling guilty when he looks the other man in the eye. It’s pathetic, really, that this was his reaction to Dave trying to pay him a surprise visit when no other soldiers were nearby. Honestly, they should be spending this time enjoying each other’s company and instead, Klaus punched him in the fucking face.

“Hey,” Dave’s gentle voice shakes him out of his thoughts before he can get too lost in them, and Klaus comes back to earth when calloused fingers wrap around his wrist. “It’s fine. I shouldn’t have snuck up on you like that.”

Klaus simply shakes his head in response. “No I -” he stops himself short, the words caught in his throat and for a moment, he wonders if this is what Diego feels like when he can’t get them to come out. “I hurt you. Jesus, Dave. I have a fucking gun. What if I -”

“But you didn’t,” Dave argues gently, stopping that thought short before Klaus has a chance to vocalize it. He reaches out, slowly, carefully, and when Klaus doesn’t shy away, he places a hand softly on his face, thumb grazing his sharp cheekbone. “You didn’t, and I’m fine. I promise. I have an older brother. It’s not the first time I’ve taken a mean right hook.”

Klaus snorts, but the laugh doesn’t touch his face. “I know, but -”

“But nothing,” Dave interrupts, voice turning a little more stern. “This is what we’re trained to do, remember?”

This is what we’re trained to do.

If only Dave knew the weight that those words had. Hell, maybe he should know.

When Klaus looks back up at him, Dave is still gazing at him, as if he could read Klaus’ mind if he just looked hard enough. Hell, maybe he can, because after a beat of silence, his expression softens and his hand moves to cradle Klaus’ head as if he’s the injured one, fingers carding through his hair. 

And without any idea of the can of worms he’s about to open up with just one simple question, he asks, voice soft, “You wanna talk about it?”

And for the first time in his life, yeah, Klaus does.

He leans into the touch.

Cold. 

It was a feeling Klaus was used to. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, aka “The Monocle”, never showed them warmth. Klaus remembers being called Number Four instead of a name, treated as an experiment rather than a human being. He would get the cold shoulder when he would cry about seeing ghosts with their guts hanging out, heads cut off, limbs hanging on by a string. He couldn’t sleep because of it. None of his siblings were really any help.

Luther, Diego, and Allison never understood why he was scared. Their version of a ghost was what Hollywood believe ghosts looked like. They thought he was lying when he said that isn’t how it is, that they keep their injuries. Five was never any help, as he thought he was better than everyone else. Ben was always dealing with his own demons, crying and panicking about the power inside of him, so Klaus never bothered him. Vanya would never understand either.

When Klaus first got a hold of his first drugs—well, besides the morphine Mom gave him when Daddy Dearest broke his jaw for wearing heels—it was as if the world became colder. He no longer saw or heard the ghosts, but his family was more closed off. Angry. Disappointed.

Cold.

After Ben died, Klaus stopped caring. Ben was the only one who cared and Klaus couldn’t handle looking at his brother’s ghost on a daily basis. So he ran into the cold and never looked back. 

When he came back for Reginald’s funeral, it had somehow become colder. Vanya had shared their secrets, Allison was way above them, Five was still missing, Diego was hanging on a fake purpose, and Luther was hanging onto the past. Though it was colder, it was nothing he wasn’t used to.

When he got a hold of the briefcase, the money-less briefcase, after being tortured for over twenty-four hours, he thought it would be the same.

He was transported into the middle of the Vietnam war—the war the United States lost—with nothing but a towel and jacket. Nothing would change.

Except it did.

He found warmth int he middle of A Shau Valley, and not in the sun or the humidity. Definitely not in the bunkers. No, it was in a pair of bright blue eyes.

He found warmth in Dave.

Dave was kind to Klaus the moment he stepped on that bus. He took Klaus under his wing, teaching him the ins-and-outs of the jungle, their weapons, and routines of the soldiers. He shared his rations with him, helped him find somewhere to hide when he “got the shakes”, or was overwhelmed by everyone in the camp. He would even step outside the tent with Klaus when he woke up with a nightmare and comfort him until the sun rose above the mountains and trees.

“You’re hilarious,” he would tell Klaus as he shared light-hearted stories from his past—or future in his case. 

“You’re so strong,” he would cheer when Klaus took out a fellow soldier in hand-to-hand combat training.

“You’re okay,” he would whisper as Klaus gasped and cried from withdrawals and nightmares.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispers that night in the bar. 

That night was the first time Klaus felt warmth in a kiss, kindness in a touch, caring in a glance. That night, Dave did not leave him cold. After that night, it was nothing but warmth. The middle of battle, around the fire pit, in the tents, Klaus was never cold.

“I have nothing back home,” Dave told Klaus one night. “My family found out I was a fag and kicked me out. I enlisted just to have somewhere to live. Just for a purpose.” Klaus made sure Dave was nowhere near cold that night.

“Come home with me,” he whispered into Dave’s lips. They were in another hotel on another party weekend. 

“Once this war is over.”

“No.” Klaus was scared. This war would never be over until every young man in America was dead. “We can leave, forget this goddamn war.”

“Where to?” Dave asked, confused and scared. “We’ll be killed for abandonment.”

“Not in the future.” Dave knew about Klaus’s ghosts. He knew his past was not just fun stories, but traumatizing events. It was time he knew the future.

“How can that be?” Dave wanted proof. He trusted Klaus, but this was another level.

“June, 1969.” That was the month they were in. News carried slow. Klaus knew that. “Police raid at Stonewall In. Riots and marches are held for the next few days afterwards.”

When the news came from home that a raid had happened, that queers, faggots, and trannies were marching the streets, Dave followed Klaus. They ran into the woods with the briefcase and traveled back. Somewhere they would be safe, happy, in love. They could get married, have kids, be gay with no fear of war or death.

Klaus kissed Dave as soon as they stepped off the bus—the public bus, not a military bus. Dave held him close and Klaus wasn’t ashamed to say that he cried. He was back to the world that was so cold to him, a world where the gaze of his family was more painful than the feeling of a bullet penetrating his skin.

He was back, but this time it wasn’t cold. 

He had Dave, the warmth of his life, the flame in his soul. He was warm, safe, happy. He would help stop the apocalypse, help keep people safe, because now he had a reason. It was no longer a cold world where no one cared. It was warm—Dave was warm.

There was no way in hell Klaus was letting anyone take that away.
