Ok, so I got an ask for mutual aid. Of course, it's human to want to help someone in need, even if all you can do is reblog their post. But you also don't want to be scammed, or help spread a scam. So you look for clues, or you only reblog your mutuals' aid posts because you at least know they're *real*, or you don't reblog aid posts at all.
So, what are the tells? (I'm not an expert, this is just what I've learned through osmosis.)
Do they follow/interact with you, outside of the mutual aid request?
Is their username weirdly generic?
Does the blog look like a real tumblr user, and not just someone who made a tumblr to ask for aid? How old is it? Is it involved in any fandoms? Does it seem staged?
Does their aid ask and needs description make sense? Is it overly vague, or bogged down with unneeded details?
If you quote-search the body of their aid ask, do you get any similar hits for scams on other sites or under other names?
Does the account for donations look legit?
What do you find when you reverse image search?
So, having received an ask that sounded very much like someone whose mutual aid I would want to support if they're real, but already having two red flags from the jump (not following me and not in my notifications, weird wording and grammar on ask), I endeavored to suss them out.
Screencaps of my adventure under the cut.
Like someone else has said, please don't go harrass this blog. Even if it's a scam, at some point there's a person behind that screen.
So here's the ask.
Tumblr media
Red flags: they don't follow me, I don't know them, the ask is long, the grammar and punctuation are bad, word choices are odd or misspelled. These don't mean it's automatically fake, but it looks more like a weird AI than someone using google translate to communicate in English.
So I check their blog.
Their pinned post is this (click to read, it's a longass pic):
Tumblr media
I don't take any links yet.
I take a block of their post and check it in google; all I get are snapshots of tumblr reblogs for their aid post. I click the "buy me a coffee" link, and it looks...idk, fine I guess. There's a tumblr logo, but clicking it seems to do nothing. (I'm on mobile)
A quick search of their name on tumblr gives me 2 posts mentioning them spamming this same message to people.
I read the one with the readmore linked here
Tumblr media
After reading wannursyafiqah74's post about it, I got on my laptop and went back to casualdonutfire.
Mostly random reblogs; cats and other random reblogs of mostly pics, many with comments that could've/should've been tags, and no actual tags whatsoever. Like set dressing that says, "See? I'm a real person! I'm leaving comments about my reblogs that show I'm not a bot! I interact! I know what I'm I'm reblogging!"
It gives me a creepy vibe. I try google again to see if I can find their presence elsewhere on tumblr. The returns are still all snapshots of their mutual aid post. I open their archive. Ok, their tumblr has archive on...?
There are no fandom-esque posts until the very first reblog, a comment on One Piece fanart on October 18, 2023.
Their first post about needing aid was on November 7, 2023. Nearly the same wording as their pinned post, except they don't mention having a child. Zero specifics on what amount is needed for what or a timeline or anything. Not even anything about Christmas coming up. Tagged generously for trans surgery and other visibility words.
Tumblr media
Oh. AND. The buymeacoffee is different. Adela, not Adella.
Tumblr media
Then their next post for aid is fresh on January 11, 2024; nearly the same wording, except now there's a daughter and a birthday -- no date for the birthday, though, is there?!
[reblog linked here] If you go to their January 12th reblog and click on the "video proof," it's an audio-only black screen upload to imgur, with no identifying info for what's going on other than what they describe (and it doesn't really sound like what they describe; it sounds like a kid ready for christmas but not disappointed, like idk what more you're supposed to get out of it)
Then I clicked on their buymeacoffee link and noticed something. When I hovered my mouse over the tumblr symbol under their blurb, the link embedded there showed up at the bottom of my screen. And it was NOT casualdonutfire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was deepeagletimetravel. And, of course, it's a nuked tumblr. Hence doing NOTHING for me on mobile.
So I went to google again!
And lo, what do I find in those lurking reblogs?
Tumblr media
ANOTHER MUTUAL AID POST IN EVERYONE'S REBLOGS. WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSONA AND STORY. BUT THE SAME WALL OF TEXT + BAD PUNCTUATION STYLE
Tumblr media
Using a stock photo for their initial "bio" that seems awfully misleading when you don't say it's a stock photo.
Tumblr media
And with stolen/uncredited art by thetransformistress as a thank you.
Tumblr media
And, of course, the buymeacoffee page it linked for Ameera (buymeacoffee.com/AmeeradelzC) is blank. 👀 Totallynormal, nothing to see here.
But this makes me think. I go back to that Nov 7 casualdonutfire post, with their first buymeacoffee link to "Adela" (buymeacoffee.com/adelladomil)--
Tumblr media
and what do ya know, the tumblr that opens is casualdonutfire!
Tumblr media
So did they forget they made an adela account, and change their ameera buymeacoffee account to adella for their new post, forgetting to change the deepeagletimetravel tumblr name?! 🤷‍♀️

deepeagletimetravel was a scammer. I don’t have any clear proof of it, but when someone tried to speak to them in what would be their local language they refused to talk to the person. Other signs that I had of the account being a scam:
The goal of theirs was constantly changing nearly every week with no real reason besides saying they were just testing the waters.
The blog originally was made on pride month; it is extremely common for scammers to unfortunately pretend their something for scams.
They never told where they were; The law they referenced only applies depending on where you are located. Being vague about your location is possible but never stating it means that law doesn’t work.
Spamming asks to everyone and anyone they could find such as sending asks to people who strictly say not to send those asks. This is clear ignorance. The excuse they had was someone told them to do that.
Was sending out DMs with same messages their asks had and stating at the start they were sorry for sending it since you don’t know them and their sorry for invading your personal space. If you know people don’t like it, why do it anyway?
Posted uncredited art and refused to credit it despite being told personally 3 times to do it and then said they didn’t know how to credit art. The problem is they posted a fundraising link but couldn’t post a link to the artist or the art they had used?
Refused to talk to someone who spoke to them in their language based around what was known. This means they likely was lying the entire time and wasn’t what they claimed to be.
Told me I didn’t understand their situation when I told them I didn’t think they knew what they were talking about at all.
The account is gone now but I’m sorry to anyone who gave them money. I hope you’ll get it back someday.

Hi there! Ameera, @deepeagletimetravel lovely name by the way. Fun fact from an almost linguist (Hindi, Latin, French, Sanskrit, & working on music theory and Haitian Creole) and history nerd. Ameera/Amira means "Princess" in Arabic. (source), I wasn't initially sure how to reply to this besides signal boosting and donating what I can (as a broke brown & queer college student). But it's lovely to meet more brown people who also like girls. Since you introduced yourself I'll briefly introduce myself, I am Meera, after the Hindu Bhakti Poet and saint, I use they/them pronouns, I am culturally Hindu and follow some Hindu religious thinking and I am brown, bi, genderqueer, and mostly a writer. I am 20, and I say this most affectionately, I'd be cowardly facing this entire thing. You are incredibly brave for following your girlfriend and sticking to your intentions and love for one another. I know for many it isn't easy, coming was not easy for me and I've come out four times now. Of course, you should never coerce anyone out of the closet, but, we are incredibly brave for loving who we love and not letting our parents and grandparent's generation dictate how we should live. There is a long history of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and brown sapphicism in general. I don't mind helping or encouraging you at all.
Below are some flags I think you'd appreciate. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend, have an excellent timezone.

Any one from a typical religious Muslim family can attest to how important it is to follow the rules and moral that are in the holy Quran, So we have come to a conclusion to be ready and be prepared for the worst, Cause the price we may have to pay is to lose our families and maybe friends and of course their support, so we have decided to get an apartment and move in together and start a new life where we can freely be who we really are, and here is where we need your support, though we both work and have some money saved up, but we still need help, getting and setting up an apartment is a lot so we will definitely need all the love and support we can get(donation link pinned on page), Thank you for your donations so far,but we are still 37% to the goal so please add your own bit,I know everyone have one or two things we go through, and this is not me imposing on any one to help, but if you can with how ever little, it will be so much appreciated, and if you can’t, kindly reach out to encourage us cause we also need that as much,This is the biggest and hardest decision we have ever had to make and please share to whoever you feel can help. We shall draw strength from the pride to pull through this, I’M NOT A SCAM feel free to go through my page or do whatever to confirm and my DM is open if you have questions or requests to clear your doubts, I believe pride is for all
thus also touching. I’m so porous of you for finally coming out, and I’m so sorry you have family who won’t support you, thank you so much for telling me this 🩷

Not following, spamming multiple folks with the same copy/paste msg, asking randoms on here to offer financial support..
Your account isn't brand new and you actually interact with other posts so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in saying you probably aren't a scammer but friend you are checking so many boxes as far as red flags go. You got snippy with people in your comments saying you're a scammer but you absolutely look like you could be one so it's hard to blame them.
I can't offer any support aside from wishing you the best and I hope you get what you need so you can live the life you want to live ✌🏻

@deepeagletimetravel if your going to save someone’s art AND repost it to tumblr the very least you could have done is CREDIT the artist!
In this post you posted this without saying who made it. I know your new to tumblr and all but please try to credit peoples artwork if your gonna use it on a post where your trying to raise money. Stop stealing images off the internet if you can’t be bothered to give credit where it’s needed. Please update your post crediting the original artist. Even if there’s a watermark, it’s important to credit artists for their art if you use it.
Credit has been sufficiently given now. Thanks.

Let's discuss a matter, and if a certain someone has an explanation, I'd like to hear it.
In this house, if we're going to play dodgeball it's going to be dodgebrick.
Ah, "buymeacoffee" link. Not a ko-fi, buymeacoffee.
Tumblr media
Huh, where's that go? A blank page actually BUT
Huh interesting. There's that same photo that's been proven is a stock photo, and you can see here from me, too:
Tumblr media
The other image used for the fundraiser page is here:
So yes, both of these images are STOLEN. And one of them directly picturing the victims of homophobic abuse. (That's messed up! Why are you using their picture to profit off of??) Now, you may be wondering why we need to look at a now-terminated (for scamming, mind you, but I think you've noticed that by now) tumblr blog. WELL. Turns out we get the link from...
Tumblr media
Right there. On the "buymeacoffee" page for casualdonutfire.
So this does in fact, further support this post in showing that the person behind the current blog is also the person behind the deepeagletimetravel. After all, only the owner can change a profile unless they were hacked... but why in the HELL would a hacker just change the tumblr link, and why in the hell would you not change it to your correct tumblr? Meaning this is a new url for the buymeacoffee/AmeeradelzC, only the name was changed. The same exact tumblr link is on the archived version of the previous scam's fundraiser page.
Now. If casualdonutfire has an explanation for this, that'd be very welcome, because what in the everloving fuck is going on here? I have webarchive shots showing both the terminated blog and its fundraiser page, so WHY does this "new" fundraiser link back to it? Is it just a revamp of an older, existing fundraiser page? Very possible. Just as scammers will change the names on paypal accounts, they could very well just reuse old accounts.
By looking at the waybackmachine captures of the 'Ameera' fundraiser page, it was cleared out at some point from August-September 2023. From digging through reblogs to get better timestamp nonsense, the last post was around August 8th 2023. So if someone was caught as being a scammer about that time, cleared out their buymeacoffee page, and forgot to remove the tumblr link, that would check out, as the story was yes, cleared from that page sometime between August 4th and September 26th (based on waybackmachine captures).

I'm not publishing the ask right now because I take a "innocent until proven guilty" approach but I've literally gotten 3 asks asking about the same user potentially being a scammer & their username starts with F but I will say:
I do kind of find them suspicious because:
In their story, they say they're discriminated against by "my country" for being trans but for some reason doesn't say which alleged country this is that they live in. This is suspicious because this is the same thing that the scammer (likely Laura Deramas) did at the now deleted blog @deepeagletimetravel where they claimed to be gay & Muslim & said it was "Jihaad" & "illegal" to be gay in their "country" but refused to say which country this was, because they were counting on people just assuming they lived in West Asia somewhere
^they claim that where they live, they could be imprisoned for 14 years: there are 9 countries where one could potentially be illegally imprisoned for up to 14 years for being gay or trans, and of them, about half of those countries use the "$" symbol for their currency, but their fundraisers & the sites they're using are in American USD.
Theyre using two knock off sites of "buy me a coffee" while calling it "ko-fi" (it is definitely not ko-fi) & another one which is a knock off of gofundme, called "donatefundme". We've seen this in other scams as well, and this is likely due to the scammer trying not to give any evidence or a location via a paypal or gofundme link, so that any lies they come up with don't contradict with their location
Odd wording: they use wording like "because I want to be trans" in one sentence but then say "I AM trans" in another. I know a lot of trans women also don't word it as "transwomen" specifically because that's also the way a lot of transmisogynists type it to devalue their womanhood, but this is the way this user types it.
Suspicious behavior noted: as early as 2021 people were apparently already noting this blog as Suspicious. They also had a previous blog that looks like it was deleted by staff for potentially said suspicious behavior or scamming: many scam blogs will get deleted for scamming, immediately come back under the same or a similar url, and then pretend like it wasn't due to their scamming & act like nothing happened
I have no exact concrete proof but yeah its definitely suspicious

Sorry but I’ve already seen the post before and it doesn’t really counter anything I’ve said nor prove anything otherwise. I’ve read it before and it doesn’t really clarify the missing information or supply clear details regarding the concerns I’ve stated before.
1. The images used on the blog last I checked was stock photos which are took off the internet and therefore someone is trying to make money with imagery they do not own for their knockoff kofi page. Most people running a support page aren’t using stock images they are using their own pics and their own stuff.
2. According to a source, the law mentioned varies depending where you live as certain understandings vary between locations. By not being specific about the location, and telling people to look it up, it seems like the account didn’t really research it either. However I am not the person to know it completely so please don’t trust that as an accurate explanation.
3. If the plan was so dangerous, why are they stating it publicly? They were so concerned about an ask going viral yet want their support post to go viral. Last I checked, anyone can see your posts even those you don’t want certain people to see. This means anyone you don’t want seeing your plan would see it unless you have your blog hidden from search. I am not a blog who can go viral as most of pet scam info posts barely get noticed. If they don’t want concerns raised they should consider that spamming asks is rude if you don’t care about what people think.
4. They sent an ask to someone who has a pinned post explicitly stating to not send them asks to share aid posts. They made it clear they actually don’t care what people think about them sending asks just because they were told to do it. Disregarding a post that says not to send asks comes off as being ignorant to one’s rules.

Hello Ameera! @deepeagletimetravel Though I'm currently unable to donate (I'm living in good condition but I don't have access to the money--that much i will say), I would be glad to donate when I can later on!
I'm not Muslim but I do live in a country with a majority Muslim population (though multiple other religions are present in society too). I'm not really that experienced with coming out to parents or family either (though I have dropped hints here and there). I'm obviously no expert on Islam, but I'll try my best with this.
I would say, with the different interpretations of the Quran and other religious texts, the mainstream and such translations being more homophobic than not, it gets a bit tricky. But if, for example, you take the original, non-translated texts, you might find that it's not as people make it out to be.
I believe there was an interpretation where it was, and I paraphrase, "it says homosexual acts can be lustful, not that all homosexual acts are lustful". Basically, if you have an accepting interpretation, then you would likelier have an accepting community. But I do not believe you have to be morally 100% 'good' or 'pure' to be accepted or supported, regardless.
(Side note that I feel relevant: I also recall there having been an Indonesian Muslim school for trans people (though aimed more towards trans women, I think), where they teach to read the Quran in Arab (original language without the changes lost in translation) to interpret it in a trans-friendly way, and that Islam and being trans is not mutually exclusive. So, indeed.)
As for coming out, yes it would be safer to do so after moving, but I can't be sure of your exact circumstances. If you reach out to them but they do not listen, you do not owe them the education. But if they're willing to learn, then that would be great! For the style of coming out, it depends on your preferences! Maybe you'd like to do the 'sit down and have a talk' coming out, or over text/call, right as you move out, or only after you move out for a while.
If you have other questions you'd like my thoughts on, feel free! I can't guarantee that I know how to answer, but I'll try :)
Have a good day :D

Can you just make a post with real evidences and proof that deepeagletimetravel is a scam???
Unfortunately I do not have any real proof they are a scam but people are free to come to their own conclusions if someone’s legitimate when they:
- Spam asks to hundred of users
- Doesn’t care if people are suspicious due to that
- Doesn’t care what people think about them spamming asks to hundreds of users
- Use stock images for their icon and fundraising source
- Think that spamming asks to hundreds of users is perfectly acceptable to do if you need money while ignoring the fact that whoever gets the ask could also be trying to raise funds themselves
- Sent the ask to someone whose pinned post clearly states do not send those asks to them therefore willfully ignoring someone’s wishes on purpose
I do not have any clear proof of scam and I’ve stated it several times here that I can’t say their a scammer for sure. I simply say take caution and use your own judgment. Nothing I’ve posted calls them a scammer. It’s just saying it’s possible, but not currently confirmed. I only make posts with proof when I find it. My replies are posted so people can see what the account says when told why their behavior is suspicious and why they should stop spamming asks.
Search their ask. You’ll see just how many times it’s been sent. And how many people have raised concern over them being legitimate. Most of them getting the ask don’t know this person and don’t get any other interactions from them besides the ask.
