My favourite thing about writing Louie and Della's dynamic is the complexity, trying to find the line between truly familial energy and platonic energy. Because I really don't see younger Louie being able to accept a maternal figure (WHICH EVERYONE ALWAYS TAKES AS ME LIKE THINKING THEYRE WORST ENEMIES WHICH I DONT THINK, THEY LOVE EACH OTHER BUT ITS COMPLICATED) but he looks up to her. There's this aura of respect and understanding, but it's tainted by bitterness knowing the distance between them was caused by something that was preventable.

pov you thought about della duck a little too hard
the fucking need to be accepted. the need to be The Cool One. like i know shes happy to have been adventuring from scrooge but like..... that caused her so many self destuctive issues..
like do you think she saw herself in dewey in the doomsday vault. do u think thats when she started to realize that putting urself in danger to impress people wasn't something good . do u think she ever re-examined how adventuring affected her. do u think going on adventures in constant danger conditioned her to not to think too hard about the small problems. that they're all gonna fix it together because theyre a family and scrooge is there
do you guys think she was speaking from the heart in new gods on the block????? when she was telling scrooge that the kids just wanted him to be proud of them do u think she included herself in that????? how many sleepless nights did teen della do how many times did she get herself hurt to prove she's worthy of scrooges time?? do you think about it because i sure am

Mickey and Friends X Madoka Magica
Wishes and Abilities
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey! It’s been awhile! I’ve been pretty busy with school and other personal projects, but today I had time so I’m gonna make a quick post about my Disney x Madoka Magica AU!
I’m gonna showcase some of the characters wishes, the ability they got, their weapon, and a little bit of info!
Let’s get to it!
⚠️Spoilers Ahead for Madoka Magica⚠️
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mickey Mouse
Wish: ???
Ability: Energy Blasts
Weapon: Rapier Sword
Info: Much like Madoka Kaname, Mickeys wish varies from timeline to timeline and his main ability is unknown, but he can fire energy blasts through his rapier. I mainly based the weapon off of ‘The Three Musketeers’ because I thought he’d look cool in a musketeer like outfit.
Donald Duck
Wish: “I wish my boys could be with their great uncle…”
Ability: Water Manipulation
Weapon: Trident
Info: Donald is the Sayaka of the story, especially in wish sense. If you know you know. Donald’s ability and weapon are inspired by him being a sailor.
Goofy Goof
Wish: “Please…Heal my son and me…Save us…”
Ability: Advanced self healing
Weapon: Gauntlets
Info: Goofy is one of the most experienced magicals around. He was 20 years old when he made his wish and he is now 38. He’s kept the territory for a long time and is a very strong magical.
Minnie Mouse
Wish: “I wish my family could make things grow”
Ability: Plant Manipulation
Weapon: Bow and Arrow
Info: Minnie’s wish has a lot of head-cannon, but basically she grew up on her family farm and her family almost lost it due to her parents not being able to grow plants, so she made her wish. I imagine her outfit to be kind of fairy like
Daisy Duck
Wish: “I wish to be a successful fashion designer”
Ability: Cloth Manipulation
Weapon: Daggers
Info: Daisy was the first character I made for this AU and has a more simple yet elegant design in my head. The fashion designer idea came from Ducktales 2017
Panchito Romero Miguel Junipero Francisco Quintero Gonzalez lll
Wish: “Please help my brother sing. Help him become a famous star!”
Ability: Sound Manipulation
Weapon: Duel Pistols
Info: Panchitos story was challenging, because it was hard to make this upbeat and kind man into a Kyoko, but after giving him a little brother it was way easier! I knew immediately what his wish would relate to but I needed make a story that matched.
Jose Carioca
Wish: “I wish for everyone to forget my negative reputation”
Ability: Illusions
Weapon: Umbrella (Can split into a shield and spear)
Info: Josè has a lot of regret over what he wished for, but that doesn’t stop him from surviving. He survived purely for Panchito and his nephews. If anything were to happen to them then his soul gem would go completely black.
Oswald The Lucky Rabbit
Wish: “I wish that I could go back and save my brother…I want to be the one to protect him!”
Ability: Time Manipulation
Weapon: Shield/Explosives
Info: Oswald is 100% the Homura of the story. I was debating over Donald or him, but I eventually went with Oswald due to the relationship he has with Mickey. Obviously the love is different but he fights just as hard as Homura.
Extras
Felicity Fieldmouse
Wish: “I wish I could make news stories happen.”
Ability: Mind Control
Weapon: Camera (Takes control of people’s minds after snapping a photo and can freeze enemies)
Info: Taking Felicity and turning her into a magical girl was tricky, but after learning that she is devoted to her job, I made her wish also devoted to it. To provide for her family and to keep her career she made a contract
Della Duck
Wish: “I always want to be on an adventure!”
Ability: Creature Construction (Can create any creature)
Weapon: Sword
Info: What if instead of flying to the moon, Della became a magical girl and disappeared without a trace one day. Unlike her brother, Della would most likely make a contract immediately and not truly think about the risk of becoming a magical girl, thus putting her in a lot of danger.
Gladstone Gander
Wish: “I want nothing but good luck. Let me have my cousin's great luck!”
Ability: Luck Energy Manipulation (Gives a person bad luck or good luck for a short period of time)
Weapon: Long Circular Saw
Info: This one also has a lot of head-cannon, but I think that originally Donald had all the luck and Gladstone was very unlucky. He was so jealous that he made a contract to steal his cousins good luck. He didn’t intend to make his cousin miserable, but he doesn’t have a lot of regret about making his wish (Who would be when they’re so lucky all the time?)
Drake Mallard ( Darkwing Duck)
Wish: “I want to inspire others like my hero inspired me”
Ability: Temporary Emotion Manipulation
Weapon: Versatile Grappling Hook
Info: Darkwing was fun to make in terms of wish and abilities, but he was also fun to make in his downfall. Darkwing can have a black and white view of things, so when things start to get hazy, it might start taking a bad toll on him. Right and wrong start to blur and he just begins to lose it.
And that’s the last one for now! I hope you enjoyed and if you did, let me know if there’s anyone else to cover!
💕🍬Stay Sweet🍬💕

Tell us about HC about May and June please^
god i have so many! I spend too much time thinking about these ducklings
well, I love dt17 but I don't particularly like the ending, I don't like Webby being a clone (I like the idea of Webby seeing Scrooge as a father figure but I don't like the clone thing) so for a while I didn't like May and June, but over time I learned to love them (they are cute ok) so here is my HCs!
❤ they were adopted by Donald and Daisy during their boat trip
❤ as they are Daisy's daughters they grew up loving fashion
💛May
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
💙June
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also think June would wear overalls
❤ I feel like May is the most traumatized after the whole thing with the Black Heron and Bradford May give me "little miss perfect" vibes, she has a lot of anxiety and insecurity, even though she knows that Donald and Daisy love her very much she still feels that being loved is something you need to deserve, something like "I need to be useful, I need to get good grades, I need to please everyone all the time or I don't deserve to be loved", she is afraid of being "discarded" again. but as the duck family is a very loving family, they will show that love is not a reward for doing something right, that she doesn't need to be perfect all the time and they will always love her.
❤ she's like Louie and Donald when it comes to adventures, the poor girl has just had so much, she just wants to have normal kid problems and a normal life.
❤ as Hobbies, she prefers books, totally would be a junior woodchuck, would definitely be great friends with Violet and Huey.
❤ June is a sunshine, she's just too good for this cruel world, I think she's more extroverted and makes friends very easily, leave her with the pizza delivery guy for a minute and they'll already be making friendship bracelets. but that doesn't mean she's always happy, she's the type of person who simply tries to ignore all the sadness she feels, because she's afraid to face those negative emotions and go back to that bad moment in her life, that's why she always tries to keep herself busy, with friends, hobbies and adventures. (Uncle Scrooge you better pay therapy for the kids)
❤ she would be a lot like Dewey and young Della when it comes to adventures, she is unstoppable! (Imagine going on an adventure with these three? poor Uncle Scrooge)
❤ she loves her dad donald very much, is always hugging him
❤ as Hobbie, she does everything, loves art, sports, theater, ballet, loves to try new things, without a doubt she is a great junior woodchuck
❤ but she's not good at studying, her grades aren't very good, but it's because she has a lot of trouble keeping attention in class, some people think she's not smart and naive, but she's very very smart and knows a lot of things
❤ I like the idea of them changing their names later, like Webby. (maybe this is an excuse to put the real April May and June in Ducktales? maybe)
❤ they are obvious neurodivergent, no one in ducktales is neurotypical.
(sorry if anything i wrote seemed confusing, english is not my first language)

Will u write fics abt may and June and their life on the houseboat w Donald and Daisy?? 👀
I actually have sort of mixed feelings about that idea? 😅
I loved automatic-DadDonald when we first meet May and June; of course he’s going to react warmly to two lost kids, clones or not.
And I thought of Donald and Daisy’s trip as a second version of the cruise he never got to go on; he’s starting a new phase of his life, one that includes Daisy as a romantic partner, and they want some time away for themselves.
I guess the sum of my issue is that we haven’t seen Donald dealing with Della being back in his or HDL’s lives, after eleven years of him raising them and being their parent. It makes me think of something Justin Mcelroy said on Twitter in regards to the end of Wandavision, where Wanda and Vision leave their sons’ room in the final episode, before reality reasserts itself.
It boiled down to this: a real parent wouldn’t do that - they wouldn’t be able to bring themselves to leave their children’s room.
Donald has raised the boys from infancy, for their entire lives. They’re his kids. The idea of him leaving them once Della is back in the picture, who, mother or no, barely met them when they were halfway to adulthood, strikes the wrong chord for me.
I’d never disparage the idea of the Donald adding May and June to his brood, since those girls need love and a real, caring family structure! It’s the idea of Donald cutting himself off from the boys in the process that doesn’t sit well with me.

I had an idea for an animatic using the song, “The Negative,” from Waitress in maybe a Ducktales AU where Della Duck, Daisy Duck, and Minnie Mouse all work at the House of Mouse and Daisy and Minnie are trying to help out Della when she learns that she's pregnant with the triplets

I'm not excited for that one ep about me and Launchpad. I'm SUPER uncomfortable being shipped with him, and I know it'll only escalate with this ep. Being a pilot helped me feel useful to my family, and to come back home after a decade to find Launchpad in my place made me feel threatened as a person and a mother. Back then I was worried that my family wouldn't want me around unless I was convenient, because come on I was annoying and a fuck up! -A v stressed and insecure Della Duck

Heya! So, as mentioned in the tags of my most recent art post, I’ve finally gotten around to watching Ducktales (2017)!
Tonight, I just watched The Golden Spear! (Season 2, Episode 11), and as much as I love Della’s mission to come back home, I’m also HUGELY freaking out over Ducktales finally showing molting!
Tumblr media
Google’s Definition:
Molting; (of an animal) shed old feathers, hair, or skin, or an old shell, to make way for a new growth.
I LOVE it when ducks do duck things!! A quick elaboration — I love it when animators and writers take the time to add basic quirks from real life animals and add it to the animated character. In a way, I believe it makes the character more “real” and it’s honestly so satisfying to see.
Just got out of a lake for a swim? Rapidly shake to get rid of the water sitting on your feathers. Are you super excited to see someone/something? The tail is wagging super fast because you can’t contain it!! When given certain feral aspects, I really think that it makes the character more whole. From humans, we can expect regular, or overexaggerated behaviour. However, if you see a character do a small quirk, like Dolores (From Encanto) walking quietly as to avoid too much noise, then it’s a quirk that adds to their persona. It works for animated ducks just as well!
Tumblr media
Some quick Google searching can tell you that ducks molt because they’re shedding old feathers to create new ones, just like how a lizard sheds its old skin to create newer, healthier skin. By molting feathers, it helps to replace damaged feathers that could negatively affect the insulation and water resistance they provide. Plus, newer feathers have brighter colours, which aids in finding new mates.
However, this episode focuses on stress molting. I’ve tried looking around for some information, but it appears I’d have to do some deeper research if I’d want to get into specific causes from the body itself. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to do that right now. The way I think of stress molting is like when humans lose their hair because of stress — It’s just a natural reaction to a stressful environment. However, I don’t know the different sciences behind each stress molt, so I’m not sure there’s any connection. It’s just seemingly similar circumstances to me.
Anyways, the point I’ve been building up to here is that while I’m sad that Donald is overly stressed in this episode to the point where he molts, I’m ecstatic that they’re finally including features like these! In my free time (and admittedly some of my not-so-free time), I’ve had a lot of ideas about how molting would work for Disney ducks. So now that I get to actually see evidence of it occurring canonically, it’s really exciting!! I have a ton of questions that I wish I could find out the canonical answers to. For example: Do ducks isolate when they molt, or is it so common that the public is unbothered? Maybe they try to cover up exposed skin? When molting, would there be any factors that could affect the mood of the molting duck? Things like that, plus simpler ones like if a duck is molting, would they keep some of their feathers for sentimental value? Even if I don’t get the answers to these, there’s always headcanons.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t stop at molting, though. I also have a soft spot for when the characters make reference to their bodily features, like their tail or their bill, like it’s just everyday talk. That’s because it is for them! They’re anthro ducks!
Tumblr media
“I’m freezin’ me tail feathers off!” - Glomgold
This is from Raiders of the Doomsday Vault (Season 2, Episode 13), and I’m crazy about it already. I can’t wait to see what else the upcoming episodes hold in store!

Thoughts on Louie and Della's Relationship + which of the triplets is my vote for Most Likely to hold any sort of longterm grudge against their mom (and why it would be Huey)
I was looking through the Della Duck tag in my blog, when I came across some discourse about the Della-Louie relationship dynamic that I reblogged a while back. I was reading thru the comments and saw someone's HC about how S3 Louie might still hold a small grudge against Della for stealing the Spear of Selene.
And I'm like, no?? If any of the kids in S3 and beyond would hold any sort of substantial grudge against Della for taking the Spear, it would obviously be Huey.
Wait, why did I think that-
Then because Huey's not explored enough, I had to take a step back and think about why I thought of him as the most likely candidate.
First, to work thru my thoughts on Louie and Della's relationship, and why he's less likely to hold a grudge against her in the long run. To start things off, he and Della already had their big clash and make up in the S2 finale. Remember this?
Tumblr media
Their small arc in S2 did important things for their character development. That's not to say that they'll never argue again, or that they won't ever have problems. I can certainly see Louie using the Spear as ammunition for a future fight, if things came to that. But Louie and Della have other traits in common, aside from sharp scheminess and their tendency to think that they're the smartest people in any room.
Louie and Della are communicators. Yes, they're both sly and manipulative. But their success in that department comes from their ability to understand people. Dewey might've inherited Della's impulsiveness and natural charisma- but his inclination toward dramatics, his need to be well liked by others, and his desire to stand out among his family and peers, all mean that Dewey is more likely than Louie (but not Huey) to keep secrets and his personal feelings quiet. Della and Louie? Much less so.
It took Louie less than a year to voice his insecurities about his capabilities as an adventurer to Huey. When their mom came back to the Manor, Louie voiced his personal concerns in the very same episode. Louie is a crier. He complains a lot. He's an excellent orator. By far, Louie is the easiest triplet to read as a character, because his thoughts and his intentions are made known to the audience very quickly.
On Della's side of the equation, it's strongly implied throughout the series that she served as the emotional translator between Donald and Scrooge. Don't get me wrong; Scrooge and Donald love each other very much, and they understand each other in a way that very few others do. But when wires get crossed and either of them clam up on their hurt feelings (or fight about other things to avoid the elephant in the room), Della comes in to mediate. She voices whatever the other person won't say out loud. But that deserves its own post.
Regardless of any trouble between Louie and Della, I'm sure of three things. 1) Della and Louie love and care about each other, 2) Della is trying her hardest, Louie doesn't like getting into fights, and he admires passion as a trait in other people, and 3) in spite of everything- despite how agreeable Huey is, or how Dewey's such a momma's boy- out of the boys, Della's relationship with Louie is probably the healthiest in the long run. When it comes to his feelings, Louie is the most emotionally honest triplet. If he beats around the bush, it won't be for long.
While Dewey and Della ride the same wavelength (which causes its own problems), she grounded Louie in Timephoon and said those infamous words because she's been in Louie's place before. She knows what scheming and selfishness got her and her family, and she doesn't want Louie to do the same thing. Because she knows she was harsh- and she knows she might've been too harsh, since she just began learning how to be an authority figure- Della is probably less confident with her ability to handle Louie properly. Which means she's more likely to go to Donald for help with Louie's issues, far more often than she might for Dewey and Huey. Louie will always let Della know where she stands with him. And while she won't take his shit, Della will listen and reciprocate his emotional honesty with her own.
Huey is not good at emotional honesty. Don't get me wrong, he's great at helping other people. But unlike Louie, Huey is as emotionally transparent with his insecurities as a steel bear trap.
Tumblr media
So. Why Huey? As I mentioned above, he and Della have stuff in common. They enjoy video games and exploring. They're both outdoorsy. Della is giving this her best shot, and Huey's a kind kid. They get along fine, so obviously things must be fine. Right?
Tumblr media
Rrriiiigggghhhhtttt. So, why do I think that Huey's the most likely of the triplets to have any residual resentment toward Della for taking the Spear?
Dewey admired Donald's commitment to his family, but he had to learn to respect him. Louie respected Donald's passion and work ethic, but he had to learn to admire him. Huey never had to learn any of that; Donald has held Huey's respect and admiration from Day 1.
Huey's uncle has a terrible temper. He's easily misunderstood by others. He's the hardest worker on the planet, but he's often underappreciated. Huey can relate. This intrinsic understanding is the root of Huey's longstanding admiration and respect for Donald's character and Donald's efforts. Despite their pre-series financial insecurities, Donald successfully raised three boys on his own while providing them with a relatively middle class lifestyle. Despite everything, Donald is rich in the love of his family and friends.
When it comes to Donald's difficulties with public society, out of his brothers, Huey is the most empathetic to their uncle's plight. He might not be a father of three, but Huey holds the best understanding of the responsibilities that Donald undertook on their behalf.
And therein lies the rub.
Huey Duck is the Responsible One. He works hard, takes his duties as the eldest triplet very seriously, and helps Donald wherever he can. Whether by serving as a vocal translator during a bank transaction, taking charge of his siblings when their uncle is away, or speaking in Donald's defense when his brothers call him boring or lame, Huey tries to makes things easier.
Tumblr media
Della probably did some of those things for Donald when they were younger, and vice versa. I'm 99 percent sure that Donald has been teaching her how to AdultTM since she got back from the Moon.
(Because her impulsiveness got her stranded for 10 years).
Huey and Della love each other. They get along great. They have plenty in common. But Huey Duck is by-the-book, and naturally inclined toward hard work- just like his Uncle Donald. Della ripped up the book, took a shortcut, and had to learn to become hardworking the hard way. Huey Duck is the Responsible One. Della had to take a crash course in becoming a Responsible Authority Figure after Louie's scheming almost erased the family from history.
There are many reasons to admire Donald, but his ability to wrangle the three of them is probably near the top of Huey's list. If Donald wasn't responsible before the SOS Incident, he certainly learned to be. Huey has his own lifetime of trouble dealing with Louie's cons, Dewey's impulsiveness, and their collective recklessness and disregard for Huey's work and Huey's passions. They're difficult and infuriating, but Huey tries. And whenever Huey tries, his respect for Donald probably rises. Because Donald isn't their sibling- he's their uncle, their guardian, their first parent since the day the triplets hatched. While the triplets probably had honorary family in their lives long before they met Scrooge (apparently, Mouseton and Duckburg are very close to each other), Donald was HDL's only parent for 10 years.
Because Huey's mom was reckless, and got stranded on the Moon.
At least Huey knows where Louie and Dewey got it from. (It's bad enough, coming from them).
But Huey Duck is the oldest. He needs to be a figure of strength and capability. He needs to be a leader, needs to provide support, needs to be a good role model. His family relies on him for that sort of thing. Mom's been through a lot. Uncle Donald has been through a lot. Huey spent ten years watching his uncle go through a lot. Huey needs to set an example. He's the oldest- which means he needs to extend a hand, make an effort, and bury any proverbial hatchet even if it kills him a little.
(Huey wants things to run smoothly. Huey doesn't want to be a burden for others. Canonically, Huey locks away a lot of his own problems and internal anxieties...until his control slips. Huey hates it when that happens).
Let the record show that I love Della Duck. She's one of my favourite characters. I love how hard she tries, and she's come amazingly far. I'm sure Huey appreciates her efforts.
I'm not saying that canon Huey holds a grudge, or that he secretly resents his mom. I just think that out of all the triplets, he's who I'd pick as the most likely to do so. And unlike Louie and Dewey, Huey knows how to hide certain thoughts and feelings successfully. Huey can be anxious, but he can't be mean (he's already weird and nerdy, he can't afford to be mean). Huey has spent his entire life honing his control over his less...socially acceptable emotions. (Hello, Duke). If Huey has grudges about Della and the Spear or anyone and anything else, I have faith in his ability to hide those negative thoughts for a long, long time.
Until he can't.

★ - anything about the moon or about childhood for Della Duck (I'm a sucker for sadness what can I say).
Lucky for you, I am much the same way
Starting the sad headcanons off with the moon: A night on the moon lasts approximately fourteen days. That is not a headcanon, that is a fact. Additionally, because of the lack of an atmosphere on the moon, there is no light from the sun that stays trapped there, which means that shadows remain pitch black.
In other words, Della would spend fourteen days in a row in absolute darkness, alone, for about ten years. Which is about 1,820 days of absolute darkness in total (if I did my math right).
Which is part of the reason it took her as long as it did to fix the Spear of Selene, because there were long stretches of time where she really wasn't able to do anything.
As for childhood sad headcanons, there are quite a few to pick from. I think we'll go with the fact that she was preyed upon by Bradford this time. After all, she never seemed to get into fights with Scrooge, she enjoyed adventures like him, she tried to emulate him as best she could- honestly, it's not that difficult to leap to the conclusion that she would be Scrooge's heir. Which is exactly what Bradford did, so he tried to groom Della into a perfect little weapon to take down Scrooge with, a la Anakin and Chancellor Palpatine style.
Bradford definitely fed into her insecurities a lot, tried to mold her into an obedient child, and when that didn't work, just exacerbated her faults and negative attributes to essentially make her a ticking time bomb, which he set off by telling her about the Spear of Selene.

Hi excuse me a minute while I get salty about Ducktales
Apologies this gets long and salty and mentions several episodes that fans have already picked to death
And since I discuss those episodes, it will be under the cut, you have been warned:
So…when/if I ever get back to watching the episodes and sharing my thoughts on them…I’ll probably leave “Nightmare on Killmotor Hill” for last
Reason being is that one is what I consider the last good Ducktales episode—or at least, the last one I enjoyed
To be perfectly honest I am not looking forward to that whole cluster of episodes at the end of Season 2—you know the ones—or even any of Season 3
And it’s taken a while but…seeing what everyone keeps picking apart, I’ve finally figured out what bugs me about the show and took away my enjoyment of it, starting with That Episode After The Last Good One:
The crew constantly expects the CHILDREN to be the emotionally mature ones
Forget the fact that these children are between eight and eighteen, all of them, and in a time of their lives where they’re not in a position to be emotionally mature
Louie is left alone in the house—I’ve already shared my thoughts about this, and while I’ve been informed that Duckworth was there too, that doesn’t change the fact that he was left with a lethal robot and an apathetic ghost butler who abandoned the whole family during Moonvasion instead of his mother, who set the punishment
During “Glomtales,” Louie has to save himself
During “The Richest Duck On Earth,” Louie has to save himself
Yes, Scrooge is there, but it’s Louie who figures it out, Louie who has the emotional growth, Louie who finally admits that he’s not ready
During Moonvasion, Louie has to be the emotionally mature one to bring Della back from her PTSD
We’re expected to read between the lines and see that the two reconcile but…do we?
Oh let me guess: it’s a kid’s show!  You’re thinking too much on it!
But we’ve been shown the characters discussing emotional beats, in ways that matter and read well, and if you want to handwave it as a kid’s show then you need to also acknowledge that the kids need to be told when a behavior is bad and needs to be rectified
From “Timephoon” on, the show fails in this regard
And nowhere is this more egregious than “The Phantom and the Sorceress,” which is…not good
Firstly, Frank’s insistence on the design shifted it from I don’t like it to I loathe this with a passion
And if you have to have a blindingly bright design to say oh she’s good now when all her characterization exists…then it says you don’t trust the character
As someone else said before, this episode tried to retread “Nightmare on Killmotor Hill” and utterly failed in that regard
SPECIFICALLY because it said it was okay to reconnect with your abuser
This is not a good message to have on a children’s show
And, like how the latter half of Season 2 necessitated Donald out of the picture for the ‘drama’ to happen, this episode requires Scrooge out of the picture to ‘force’ the characters to go to Magica
Scrooge, who has his own knowledge of magic as evidenced by his libraries and his other bin, would have been a better pick
Still have that suggestion to go to Magica—by Violet, since she doesn’t know any better—and have Lena, very firmly, say no
Instead, they are made to go back to someone who happily abuses the three up one way and down the other
Lena is forced to be the emotionally mature one here
Webby is forced to be the emotionally mature one in the finale
Louie is forced to be the emotionally mature one in every instance with Doofus Drake and throughout Season 2
And what particularly GALLS me is the fact that the show has already shown a balance of the kids reacting negatively, the adults reacting negatively, and then the adults being the mature ones and showing the children how to be as well
That being “The Shadow War”
There was the whole blowup with Scrooge in the episode before, where the children behaved like children and the adults behaved like they had been suppressing their emotions for years
Webby not wanting the family to break up and thinking she can glue them back together through sheer force of will is something that is painfully accurate for a child
And Beakley, when she sees how this is impacting everyone, agrees and starts guiding everyone to emotional reconciliation
Followed by Donald being the one to realize that he has to let go of his anger and finally move on, thus guiding the boys to do the same
This show had already shown that they could have the kids being kids and the adults being responsible adults with believable emotions…and then throws it all out the window halfway through Season 2
And it never got that original spark back
Now I recently got an ask pointing out that it was probably for the best that Ducktales didn’t get renewed…and with this in perspective, I kind of have to agree
Despite the fact that yes, according to a probably-now-deleted post, the show being cancelled (I think it was about the midpoint of Season 3?) was a gut-punch to the crew
And I imagine they backtracked from that post because Disney blackmailed them—it’s unfortunately very easy to get blackballed in the entertainment industry
Because we didn’t need more of “Timephoon” onwards—we wanted more of Season 1, and what made that season great
When someone who used to be very excited about the show now looks at watching the rest of it with dread…you done hecked up, pal

I think the idea that thinking a character is a bad person means you MUST hate them is weird. Because Della ? The definition of a bad person, at least when she first gets back. Clear favouritism, literally threatens to disown her kid if he doesn't change who he is. (During a punishment she had no right to give because he didn't consider her a mom.)
But I love her as a character. I like watching her grow and (although I personally think she still clearly has her favourites) try her best to do better. She's fucking hilarious even before her arc is done.
Anyways tldr normalize critizing characters you like.

Selene’s Statements About Della Duck
| ✖ | 🌕 | 🌕 | 🌕 | 🌕 |
When it comes to Della’s decision with The Spear, we’re meant to believe she was more excited about taking a quick joyride in orbit than prioritizing motherhood. We’re also supposed to believe that Della’s crash-landing was the thing that humbled her into being more family-oriented.
But even with the show being over, there are still some things about this that leave me unconvinced...I mean, yeah, it was very convincing after Scrooge gave his perspective of the ordeal, but as Season 2 progressed, I began to question this retelling...
Although taking the Spear was presented to us as this big, selfish mistake that Della has been trying to make up for and get past, other cases that resembled this story or touched on a contributing factor, didn’t quite treat it as such. Space-related imagery and the like continued to be brought up in the background; even after major events like Della’s return, Lunaris’ defeat and Penny settling her homesickness...it felt like there was something much more important that needed to be said beyond Bradford’s small mention in the finale.
If these other situations in the series truly were inspired by Della’s situation and if she was completely in the wrong, then there would have been more things to further cement this to line up with Scrooge’s perspective. If what he said was exactly what Della was doing, it should be reflected in these other stories as irrefutable no matter how you look at the situation. There shouldn’t be anything that makes us want to second guess...and yet, there’s enough room to think about this.
Dewey and Webby meeting Selene in her garden was one of the first moments I started to question when I looked back at it. As soon as a negative view of Della was said, Selene immediately, without a doubt, went against it by claiming otherwise. At this point in the series, it could have been argued that she was just looking at her friendship with Della in a rose-colored way, but as the time went on, a lot of the information she gave about Della became evident.
In a similar manner, it was once believed both inside and outside of the show that Della had died after getting lost in Space. But the Sphere of Selene itself was hinting towards the opposite; that she was actually alive on the Moon.
Let’s take a deeper look at what Selene was saying about Della here:
“So, we’re back to “she stole Scrooge’s spear and betrayed the family” then. Great.”
“Whaat? No way! She loved her family more than anything in the world!”
This was suggesting that Della was always family oriented, not suddenly after her arrival to the Moon. This is proven through the episodes we’ve seen with her as a child.
In “The First Adventure!”, Della stayed persistent in convincing Scrooge that it would be better to take Donald and her with him, than to search for The Papyrus of Binding by himself. Later after he agreed, both Donald and Della had to get after him for caring more about his business than enjoying the adventure he was having with them. In “Last Christmas!”, Dewey had to explain to Donald why Della was so upset with him. She had planned for the night to be spent going on a mission together but Donald misinterpreted her actions and skipped out to do his own thing.
Even in the Pre-Spear comics IDW provided, it was Della who was chosen to remind Donald about what it means to be family in Issue # 3. And while the comics don’t determine the canon, the writers who developed these stories were given insight about how the show’s universe works and how the characters are supposed to act. The writers in both the show and the comics could have easily slipped something into these stories to demonstrate how wrong Della was to go into outer-space at the time that she did. In the child episodes, they could have highlighted her selfishness directly by making her want to catch Santa to steal all of his presents or having her extremely eager to make her own request with the papyrus. Why would the showrunners miss out on that opportunity...twice? Why are other characters focused on being in the wrong, but she isn’t?
As an adult, it didn’t feel right to have Della fussing at Donald and Louie for taking significant leaves and not being mindful about the impact of their actions, if she basically did the same thing. It never came off as not wanting them to make the mistake she made, it always sounded like she would know better. She was so quick to point out this problem she had with others that it felt like she forgot about herself. On one hand, this makes her look like a hypocrite, but on the other, this gives off the notion that being selfish and leaving her family out of big events, is not initially a part of her nature.
The closest case we have to better reflecting the Spear situation is in “Trickening” where Della’s desire is at a level of uncertainty that could easily be misinterpreted. In this episode, she wanted to join in on what someone else was doing to give the trick-o-treaters a memorable Halloween. She was aiming to share her love of the holiday with them, but she was so caught up in making it special, that she didn’t realize this plan was way too intense.
Donald was completely opposed to it like he was with her space travel proposal. He wanted to make his sister understand that she was doing too much, but she ignored his concern and tried to push past him. If Della was supposed to learn that she should listen to Donald more, you would think she would have taken that into consideration much sooner instead of having a huge relapse. Della showing improvement after a major mistake would be too important of a thing for her to revert on, so, having a similar situation in “Trickening” was more than likely done to help us understand something about the Spear one better. As the twins fought, he begged Della to think of the kids and she stated this was exactly what she was doing. This suggested that Della had the same mindset when it came to her own kids.
So, as both a kid and an adult, she has been portrayed caring more about family than other things like adventure itself or some kind of item she could get out of it. If she loved her family so much, then what on Earth would make her leave during such a crucial time and jeopardize the chances of ever being with them again?
“Last Christmas!” showed us that Della doesn’t adventure out on her own unless she feels like she has to. If she didn’t go out in the snow after Donald refused to come with her, then she would have missed out on her chance to catch Santa as a present for Scrooge. Like her Santa hunt, Della originally intended for her space trip to be a family thing. If a parallel is meant to be made here, then that opens up the possibility that Della took the rocket so that she wouldn’t miss her chance to do something special for her family; more than likely, something for HDL’s birthday that could not wait. That could explain her urgency and lack of detail in the letter she left for Scrooge.
If she was just taking the rocket for a spin, she wouldn’t need to word her letter like that. She would have used it as a way to express her gratitude towards her uncle for having her project built. Why would the showrunners have her letter be like this purely for the sake of suspense if we’re supposed to be looking for clues? This is another thing that is too important for them to have pulled something meaningless here. If she had to leave a letter for Donald about naming the boys for her too, then it sounds like she was doing something that may not have been able to be done in time before their hatching. Or, I suppose, in case she didn’t make it back at all. Either way, both messages showed that she thought about the consequences beforehand.
In addition to the garden meeting on Ithaquack, something else that made me slowly change my mind about Della’s decision was how she had brought her copy of the family photo with her. Having it placed on the dashboard in front of her as she traveled through Space, seemed to imply that family was a driving force in her choice to continue in the direction of a storm she could have easily avoided. In Scrooge’s flashback, it seemed like Della was enjoying the challenge she was faced with before the rocket was struck. But when it came to showing her perspective, she wasn’t having a fun experience at all.
“Aw, Della wasn’t just a good person...she was the greatest! And she made everyone around her better.”
When Launchpad defined what it meant to be a Senior Woodchuck in “Challenge”, I immediately made a connection to what Selene had said. It’s a bit uncertain whether Della became a Senior Woodchuck or not, but she was still a dedicated member of the Junior Woodchucks and that sort of implies that she was someone who often looked out for others. This coincides with how Della encouraged HDLW in “New Gods” and helped to bring the children’s feelings of inferiority to Scrooge’s attention. Della eventually helped to make Penumbra a better person once the lieutenant realized that her jealousy and suspicion advanced Lunaris’ invasion. The betrayal against the pilot made her a hero in the eyes of her fellow Moonlanders again, but it was through a lie and that didn’t settle with her. Acknowledging the fact that she messed up motivated her to regain her heroic title in the right way.
None of the points that I’m bringing up in this is to say that I don’t think Della was flawed or that she isn’t really an impulsive character, but that maybe there was a different kind of mistake she made with her rocket plans than what we were being told.
“Maybe the spear isn’t an artifact...maybe, it’s something else!”
“Your mom did love a good mystery!”
This part makes me think of the riddle from Della that the boys would later find in “Castle”. It led them on a quest to find a lost crown, but similarly to The Spear, they found out that this treasure was never an actual crown--it was a sailor’s hat in a duffle bag. It was within the castle’s catacombs where HDL realized that the riddle was originally intended for Donald; another character who is supposed to be looked at as their parent. An imprint of the Spear’s blueprints were later discovered on the back of the paper Della’s riddle was written on.
The way Selene mentioned mysteries right after Webby wondered about the spear being something else, seems to suggest that Della’s disappearance could have been due to her wanting to solve a mystery of her own. In “Last Crash”, Scrooge did compare Dewey’s hunt for the missing photo piece with how he previously failed to keep his niece safe from the cosmic storm.
“Here. It’s not a spear, but it’s a treasure even Della never found.”
This feels reminiscent of Della’s old journal statement about how she never found Coot’s armory. In this episode, it was explained that her younger self was looking for something in relation to the non-McDuck side of HDL’s family. Webby wanted to follow in Della’s footsteps and bring the boys with her on an epic journey to finally resolve this mystery, but once they reached their destination, it landed them in a room full of corn instead. Because the treasure was expected to be materialistic rather than sentimental, the trip looked like a big waste of time. It wasn’t until a spark was set in motion, that the characters were able to acknowledge the importance of what they discovered.
I noticed many elements in “Coot” that could be paralleling things in relation to Della’s journey. On her side of the story, she was determined to complete the task of celebrating her family at the fort, but a setback prevented her from doing it sooner. There was also an cloudy formation that accompanied a crash as well as there being a moment where her vehicle needed to be reassembled.
If Della was looking for a treasure of some sort in Space, perhaps she didn’t reveal this afterwards because, like Scrooge was with her, she was embarrassed about her failure. Selene implied that Della was usually great at accomplishing cases like these but this one resulted in a major loss that caused a decade of separation.
“Don’t give up, young duck. Your mother never did.”
There is definitely no exaggeration about this. In spite of all her struggles, Della continued to press on until she made it back home.
As I was observing the occurrences in Season 2, I noticed that there were key moments about her departure from the Moon that line up with her departure from Earth. If she was working hard to get back to her family on Earth, then there could have been something about Space that she was working just as hard to get to. If there was a particular goal with Earth that Della wanted to include the Moonlanders with, then there could have been something particular with Space that she wanted to include her family with.
Della had to leave the Moon earlier than expected because an emergency came up. That creates a possibility that there was some kind of emergency that caused Della to launch The Spear from Earth sooner than she intended to. Both departures resulted in leaving groups behind and breaking a promise she made to them. Della was very concerned about what the Moonlanders would think about her being gone and while Donald was the one who made a promise about never spending another Christmas apart, she had to have agreed to it; she’s the one who made a big fuss in the first place. If Lunaris' claim of Della being a traitor was false, then there's a possibility that Scrooge's explanation wasn't true either. What could strengthen this is how he was wrong about Della in “Raiders” during its own parallels to the Spear incident.
Adding on to what I said about “Trickening”, If both of these situations were meant to be reflective of Della taking the Spear, then she wasn’t using the kids to mask a selfish desire, she was seriously doing it for them. Lunaris told the rest of the Moonlanders that Della made up her stories about Earth to trick them into letting their guard down, but that was never part of Della’s plan.
So from evaluating Selene’s statements we can gather:
That Della was always family oriented and that betraying her family for the thrill of adventure or the sake of something materialistic, is considered out of her character
Della doesn’t adventure out on her own unless she feels like she absolutely has to
Della may have taken the rocket so that she wouldn’t miss her chance to do something special for HDL’s birthday
Della’s letters to Scrooge and Donald showed that she thought about the consequences before taking the Spear
Della may have not avoided the storm because there was something in the direction of it that she was trying to get to
That even in the past, Della was someone with the tendency to look out for others and make them better people
There may have been a different kind of mistake she made with her plans than what we were being told
That Della’s disappearance could have been due to her wanting to solve a mystery of her own
That if Della was looking for some type of treasure in Space, there’s a higher chance that it was of sentimental value rather than what we would have normally expected it to be
She was more than likely looking for something in relation to another group of people who would also qualify as being part of HDL’s family
Della might not have revealed this afterwards due to her being embarrassed about her failure
Maybe she didn’t tell Scrooge and Donald the truth about her outer-space proposal because she wanted it to be a surprise
If the kids succeed in finding the armory’s gold with realizing it...perhaps in some strange way, Della may have unknowingly completed her goal too
That Della was always known as someone who persevered whenever she had her heart set on something
Della’s plans to enter Space may have played out in a similar manner to her plans to come back home
An emergency in relation to her goal could have caused Della to leave sooner
There’s a good chance that Scrooge may have been wrong about Della’s intentions
If there was nothing significant shown ahead in the storm, then what was Della working towards? Before this episode aired, there were comments here and there speculating that the cosmic storm was a wormhole that sent her into the future. I think that especially at this point, it could have been some kind of portal. The clouds were in the formation of a tunnel and an underground tunnel was what led to the golden armory, so, whether she realized it or not, the storm could have certainly led to the treasure she was seeking. It could have been a portal to a place that wasn’t easy to realize until you’ve passed through it. The Shadow Realm was a hidden dimension that made Lena seem invisible while she was trapped there. Or, maybe like the wormholes in “Neverrest”, the storm could have been a shortcut to another area of Space.
If Della had a bigger reason for taking the Spear then why didn’t the showrunners go into that before the series ended?  Maybe in a similar way to Negaduck’s return, they wanted to get to that but something caused a change. Perhaps there wasn’t enough room to conclude it while also doing the same for Huey and Webby’s F.O.W.L. arc. Interviews with Vulture and SyFy Wire   revealed that twenty minutes had been shaved from the original finale script during finalization as well as there being fifty-five-ish episode ideas leftover that we didn’t get to see.
Another potential option for the additional Spear information is that was always set aside in case Disney greenlit a fourth season. All of the other seasons provided something new about The Spear of Selene and the subject matter is deeply tied to the series, so it would be pretty strange to suddenly stop mentioning it in the next continuation. Maybe Huey and Webby’s arc needed to be focused on first because there’s something about Della’s decision that further connects the two. I’m just...really doubtful that we were given so much build up against the narrative with no intention of it paying off at some point.
I would love to go in fuller depth about what I think could be going on with Della’s story, but it’s SOOO much work to put everything together for evaluation...I’m not sure how long it’ll take to get it done. I started a multi-part essay about this two years ago and wanted to have it finished before Season 3 but there was too much left to finalize in the last section….
Right now, I can only manage to make singular posts like these and shorter...but there are older, slightly outdated traces of my theory if you look around my blog long enough.

Bakery Box Boy: Bath Time
CW: mentions of punishment, physical harm, scars, modern slavery, memory alteration, self-blame, people talking negatively about the character, internalized hatred, I’m really bad at these I’m working on it, anxiety WC: 1316
IT CONTINUES I swear one of you asked me to tag you but I forgot who. Thanks again to @moose-teeth and @whumpywhumper for beta-reading. And we also located the post that inspire this!! so thanks @whumping-every-day for that wonderful answer!!
The warm water swirls around his - Jasper’s - hands as he moves them through the water, feeling the gentle push and pull. It’s steamy, a fog of vanilla and sweet wood that clings to him like the cold had. He worries it’ll ruin the beautiful wallpaper, the one covered in yellow flowers with dark green stems that look like they’re growing all over the wall. He doesn’t want to ruin the wallpaper.
He doesn’t want to ruin things, not again.
But, nothing about this seems to be going right. The memory of coming out of the box still feels...foggy, like the air around him, a confusion that clings to his chest with the fear that he has done something wrong, with knowing he’s been bad. 847650 - Jasper his brain continues to correct - isn’t good. He can’t remember why, or how, but he knows. Not that he wasn’t good enough here, those blunders are still fresh. No, it’s a deeper certainty, that the core of who 847650 is, is mistake.
He knows because the things in his mind that he can grasp, they are only pain, and fear, and people yelling. Because he can see the thin tracery of lines that cover his arms, his legs. Because he can feel the way his bones crack when he stands. Because of the way skin pulls uncomfortably across his back that makes him scared to look.
But his new owner, they’d….touched him. Not the way they did in the white rooms, in the places he wishes would fog over more. It had been gentle. Warm. Hands that rubbed circles into the frozen joints, wrapped them in blankets far too soft for something as torn and broken as him. She knew, he was sure, because the one thing he could clearly remember, was her face when he’d first opened his eyes.
Horror.
He is a terror, a horror, a thing made to be kept in a basement. That’s what the handlers have told him this time or the time before or sometime that blends into a forever of white rooms only punctuated with the pain of knowing he is bad in the way a belt or a cane or a whip or a hand hits him until he is beat beet-red.
Useless, can’t believe it’s back again.
What’d it do this time? Can’t believe they keep sending it out. Guess money is money.
How much longer you think it’ll last?
Who knows? This thing’s like a bad luck boomerang, can’t get rid of it
And 847650 knows they are right, in his bones. That nothing good happens around him. To him. It’s written on his skin, in the box he came in, in the way her face had looked.
So, why had she touched him like that? Why is she letting him sit here, in this nice bath, that is using far too much warm water on him? Why does she only have nice soaps for him to use, ones that smell like sugar and sweetness and all the things he can barely remember beyond them being far too nice?
It feels so wrong, and he wants it to stop. He wants the shoe to drop, to kick his ribs, to crush his hand.
Doesn’t he?
He isn’t made for flowered walls, for warm fireplaces and hand-knit blankets that smell musty and cozy with years of use worn into their threads, not threadbare but instead comfortable, secure in their place.
He wants to be like that, to know where he belongs, to belong, but he is bad. Bad luck. And he knows there is no way he belonged somewhere like here, can’t, not for long.
A knock on the door jumps him out of his thoughts, water almost sloshing onto the soft bathmat.
One drop away from disaster.
“Sugar? I found some clothes for you. I think they might fit, you’re about the right size. I’ll just leave ‘em here on the edge of the counter. You just come on out when you’re ready, I’ll be in the kitchen.” He sees a hand slip a pile of fabric onto the edge of the counter before the door shuts again.
When he’s ready?
A test. It must be. To see how quickly he can recover, get himself ready to learn.
Even though the water soothes the ache in his limbs, he forces himself to pull the drain open, watching his solace slink down the drain. Grabbing the towel that is far too fluffy, he stands carefully in the tub, drying off before stepping out so to be sure to not slick the tile with water.
The pile of clothes have the same slightly musty, stored smell of the blankets. He doesn’t mind it, feeling the soft, pliable fabric in his hands. It’s not stiff, like clothes he feels in the edges of his mind he’s worn before, that felt too wrong on his body, too perfect in every angle and shape. But they’re not full of holes that make his skin shiver with the memory of cold far worse than that of the box. It’s clothing that’s been lived in, been given a home, for longer than he can imagine.
He pulls on the white shirt, feeling it hang loose on his shoulders as he puts the thick flannel over top. The jeans, while thin, hang loose on his hips, until he has to tighten the belt to the second to last hand-worn notch just so they’ll stay up. But it’s all so warm and soft over his skin. The socks are luxurious, thick wool that helps him cling to the feeling of toes. Of being here, even as the fog in his brain still makes it hard to think, to remember.
When you’re ready her voice echoes in his brain, and suddenly, he’s quickly folding the towel back onto its rack, and scrambling to the kitchen. He isn’t sure how long he stood there, fingers just trailing over the fabric on his skin, but he knows intimately it was too long.
Jasper nearly slams into the wall as the sudden slick of socks on his feet causes him to slide down the hall, limbs flailing like a newborn fawn. He manages to recover, grabbing the doorway as his heart thumps in his ears in fear.
Please, please let me to have been quick enough to be good
“Oh, there you are. I was starting to think you’d fallen asleep in there, was about to go check to see if you’d drowned.” His owner’s face is smiling, and she winks, but he can’t understand why. Clearly, he’d taken too long. Maybe she’s happy because it means she now has a reason to punish him, to start teaching him a lesson. Maybe because it proves that he isn’t good, just like she thought when she saw him. He ducks his head, feeling his shoulders stiffen and hoping maybe this punishment will at least be a bit lighter, since his bones still ache from the cold, muscles straining just to stay upright.
“I-I’m sorry I took so long Miss Della.” For no reason, dammit, he feels tears prick his eyes, and he forces them away.
Crying ain’t gonna do you no good, little boy, the voice in his head taunts with the crackle of electricity in its anger.
“No worries, I like myself a good soak too. I’m sure after getting soaked in the cold it felt nice to do an ole switcheroo hmm? Why don’t we go sit by the fire, warm you up a bit more, and I’ll go over the ground rules and what not” Her face breaks out into a smile as she crosses to the living room, picking up a dark iron rod to stoke the fire.
Jasper reminds himself to follow, even as a spot on his hip screams about how red hot pokers feel on skin.

This may be a bizarre subject of discourse to bring up, but let’s talk about Daisy Duck. Or, in other words, about sexism and classic Disney.
I just had the displeasure of reading a comment on a post about Daisy and Donald in the Ducktales reboot, about how Daisy is “actually a bitch” in the comics, etc. (I’m gonna spare you the whole sentence).
This may blow your entire mind, but characters are fictional. People write them. There is a very clear reason why Daisy Duck has consistently been, with very few exceptions, depicted as several negative stereotypes: she was inherently created within a sexist mindset. It’s insane to me that men talk about Daisy as if an anthropomorphic lady duck was a real person, instead of looking into why the men behind her characterization have, most often than not, had the need to depict women in this fashion.
Minnie and Daisy were born out of a sexist idea. They were created to be Mickey’s and Donald’s “girlfriends” and “female counterparts”. They weren’t made out of nowhere, like Mickey, Donald, Goofy or Pluto; much like other female characters of Disney’s early universe, they are female “versions” of their male lead counterparts. They were thought as Mickey and Donald with a bow, so to speak. And maybe kind of literally.
In Minnie’s case, they ended up creating a demure “angel-in-the-house” archetype. Because early on, after criticism on Mickey’s problematic aspects, adult audiences of the 30s wanted Mickey to be less of an asshole and more pure and wholesome as a “role model” for kids. Mickey’s shortcomings started to become something born out of his innocence and honest mistakes, to avoid this perception of him being a “negative role model”.
So Mickey being always positive, well-intentioned and pure turned Minnie into the “feminine” version of that in most of her depictions, especially from the 20s to the 40s: a lady in distress and, later on, a demure housewife. Minnie cooks, cleans, attends to the house, keeps Mickey down to earth and scolds him when necessary. A very clear example is the 1941 short The Little Whirlwind, in which Minnie requires Mickey’s assistance to work on the garden while she bakes.
Donald, on the other hand, was the character allowed to go wild. He was referred to as the “problem child” by Walt Disney and he permitted the type of comedy Mickey was not allowed to provide. He was easily angered, violent, prone to physical comedy and sometimes downright a jerk. Which is, probably, why he’s the most featured character in all of Disney, with even more appearances than Mickey or Goofy.
Even if Donald’s characterization has fluctuated through the years, maybe being the most developed out of all of the classic Disney characters (something possible due to the fact that he was allowed to be flawed), these basic notions are the ones they used as a base to create Daisy in 1940. The feminine version of Donald’s charming wild manliness was, for the 40s mindset of womanhood, a “bitch”.
Daisy was conceived as a more “refined” female character, because making her a “high maintenance” girlfriend was a prompt to give Donald more “funny moments” in which to fail and get upset. Daisy’s nature, matching Donald’s in attitude, added what they considered a feminine poise and a constant need to try to change him and “better” him, which turned hypocritical when she herself was also quick to anger. Because, women.
With time, some of Daisy’s characteristics were refined and developed. She became a career woman in instances like Quack Pack and in other instances she has been shown as a fashion designer, in 2018 she had an entire meet and greet centered on her designs for Donald’s Dino Bash, for example.
Still, for both Minnie and Daisy, some of their early characteristics were never fully gone.
House of Mouse (which is a really good show, don’t get me wrong) still saw Minnie as a manager for Mickey’s business and Daisy as a diva wanting to shine. The Three Musketeers, which is one of the best trio movies, still had Daisy playing the "hard-to-get” object of Donald’s unrequited attentions until the very end. In the Mickey shorts, Donald and Daisy often show up in opposition to Mickey and Minnie as a couple with issues, like in The Adorable Couple.
Before Ducktales, Daisy’s last animated appearance was Legend of the Three Caballeros and OH BOY. All the steps forward, albeit minimal, that things like House of Mouse or The Three Musketeers had done with Daisy, this show erased. And it’s a pity, because the show is funny and the Caballeros are fantastic, but Daisy once again becomes the nagging girlfriend with high standards who wants to change her boyfriend and blah blah blah.
I didn’t know if the Ducktales reboot would be allowed to have Daisy, because the old show did not and they don’t have authorization to use certain characters (seriously people, how would having Mickey in an episode tarnish his image?).
When I heard she was going to be in season 3, I was hopeful yet hesitant, because things were not going well historically for my girl Daisy. Was she going to be the nagging ex like in Legend? A spotlight-seeking Diva like in HoM? Play “hard to get” as in 3M?
The answer was: none of the above. Donald and Daisy did not know each other previously. They don’t immediately fall head over heels for each other. Donald isn’t insistently seeking her despite her rejection and she isn’t constantly nagging him despite his attempts to be better.
They are just two people with similar ways of reacting who, listen to me, respect each other. I was floored.
Daisy is a designer, much like in previous iterations of her character, and she is bossy around her job because she’s intent of seeing things through and wants to succeed in her field. Donald isn’t immediately taken by her, he gets to know her and sees some of himself in her, as she does, and then they defend each other from those attacking them.
But the most mind blowing thing in the Ducktales episode was that the key to their relationship so far is...wait for it...communication.
Donald has been established to have communication issues with his family, not only literally, because he speaks like that, but also because there’s a lot he doesn’t tell others, like when they discovered he was seeing someone about his anger management issues because he wanted to take good care of his nephews after his sister disappeared (how good is this show?). He even struggles sometimes reaching his friends, Panchito and José (although he had a heart-to-heart with Goofy that was pretty sweet). And he fights a lot with Scrooge, especially when both had to pretty much deal with Della’s disappearance in their own distinct ways.
So Daisy comes in and listens to him. She understands him. And he listens to her. This is HUGE.
I don’t know how this will be developed, but the fact that Ducktales was able to introduce Daisy in a way that didn’t erase her personality and yet treated her with respect blew my entire mind.
So, to respond to this person’s comment, maybe it isn’t that “Daisy is actually a bitch”, maybe Daisy is a fictional character who has been consistently written and produced by men with a sexist mindset and it took a reboot that actually gives a damn to give her the foundation necessary for her to be a character that is independent from these outdated ideas.

Okay... Head cannon time.
I just finished the new episode and I loved it, but my brain kinda got stuck thinking about the Huey part and made a head cannon of sorts.
The point:
Huey suppresses his rage because of growing up with Donald.
The explanation:
Donald Duck knows that his anger has and does create problems. He even goes to anger management because he wants to do better. Its a logical conclusion that Donald would be self concious of his anger and doesn't like that part of himself.
We know the boys have seen Donald get angry a lot. Dewey even said "he is the angriest duck he knew." But the boys didnt know that Donald was going to therapy for it. So for the most part growing up they got to see how he got angry, it made life hard, and how he didnt like that part of himself. Even if Donald didn't say anything out loud about not liking his anger the boys would still be able to pick up on it because people are really good at reading body language.
And then Huey inherited the same anger that his uncle has and needs to learn how to deal with it. And like all kids do he probably looked towards his parent. He didn't see Donald going to therapy, but he did see how anger negatively affected Donalds life. Donald has had multiple jobs, and part of it may be because of getting fired due to anger problems. Huey sees how Donalds anger messes everthing up, and so logically he thinks about his anger the same way. But because he doesnt see Donald learning how to manage it through therapy, instead of learning how to deal with thoose emotions he suppresses them.
This isn't to say Donald is a bad parent. He most definitely is not. Infact this isnt even his falt, this is just one of those things that happens in life. Donald isn't one to share a lot about his personal life with the kids in the first place, evidence about the boys not even knowing about Jose and Panchito, which is a part of Donalds past that isnt connected to the whole Della situation. However, I am sure that if Huey talked to Donald about anger and how to deal with it Donald would be more than willing to open up.
I am excited to see how Huey learning to accept and manage his anger will effect his character. I think its a really cool thing for the show to cover.
