“But when first the two black dragons sprang out of the fog upon the small clerk, they had merely the effect of all miracles – they changed the universe. He discovered the fact that all romantics know – that adventures happen on dull days, and not on sunny ones. When the cord of monotony is stretched most tight, it it breaks with a sound like song.”

For What We are about to Receive, Apologies
After all that stuff I wrote yesterday – maybe because of all that stuff I wrote yesterday, who knows? – I am having a totally blank day today. I normally do a blog post first thing after breakfast; I opened the tab today and could not think of a single thing to write. I trawled the news and facebook to see if they would give me any ideas. Binah doesn't get compliments very often- not the usual fare, at least. any and all praise she's ever received has been related to her work as an Arbiter, how excellent and efficient she was at killing her targets- it's fitting for someone like her
fitting, but empty. she could be applauded for her skills in destruction a thousand times, but she'll still feel nothing. it's something she's used to by now, the unending chill where her heart should be
but then out of the blue you compliment her eyes one day, while you're discussing work. it slips from your mouth as easy as blinking, a simple "Your eyes are lovely!". she's heard you compliment your coworkers to cheer them up; perhaps that's what you were trying to do for her with so many cycles weighing silently on her shoulders
and yet somehow it still makes her cold heart flutter- you truly think her eyes are lovely? her eyes, which she's heard described as flat, dull, dead, and terrifying- but she can tell by the earnest look on your face that you're not lying, not even slightly
well. if you think her eyes are lovely, then perhaps they really are, in the end
