PART 1 | POLL 4
SHRIMP TOURNAMENT!!!
(make sure to read info on both contenders before voting! some information may be hidden under "read more"!!)
BANDED CORAL SHRIMP (Stenopus hispidus)
AKA: coral banded shrimp, banded cleaner shrimp
technically, BCS aren't true shrimp, but we'll make an exception due to how closely related they are (wink). these big guys boast gigantic claws and red-white stripes covering their entire bodies! they're able to distinguish between individual banded coral shrimp (presumably through chemical signals), which is quite a rare trait for crustaceans! they're also monogamous and mate for life, a trait also quite uncommon for most crustaceans! if one partner dies, the other will never mate again and supposedly live the rest of its life solitary.
-
EMPEROR SHRIMP (Periclimenes imperator)
AKA: N/A
these colorful shrimp form commensal* relationships with nudibranch (most commonly "spanish dancers"), in which the latter protects the former from harm by being toxic to most other animals. depending on their size, however, emperor shrimp may choose to live on sea cucumbers instead, and they're actually quite dedicated to their choice- if a larger shrimp is moved from a nudibranch to a sea cucumber (and vice versa), they'll go out of their way to find their original partner again!
*where one organism benefits from another without hurting or helping it- although it's still debated on whether or not the other party benefits in this situation
-
reblog for more shrimp frying rice! this is part of an ongoing bracket tournament known as the Sas Shrimp Tournament, which will finally decide which shrimp is the absolute coolest of them all!

emperor shrimp!
emperor shrimp are found in the info-pacific and they live commensally on many hosts such as sea slugs!
they’re very in length so they can latch onto their hosts easily
these shrimps eat parasites from its host, as well as algae or other small creatures that swim by!
emperor shrimp can live for 2-3 years
these crustaceans are very brightly coloured to serve as a warning to predators!
the body of an emperor shrimp is divided into three segments :)

Quick while it's still Mermay
Draw Hol Horse as a mermaid with a pet pistol shrimp he named Emperor
Gotcha with that one!
Emperor Shrimp is probably the silliest thing I ever drew like look at it looking like a partial gun LOL. Anger the little shrimp and he'll viciously attack!
Hol Horse as a mermaid is also totally bonkers of an idea but I totally vibe with it, Hol Horse content is Hol Horse content!
Thanks for the request, this one took me around 40 minutes ;p
