do you think c!eret right after the betrayal, if he ever met his future self, wouldn't understand her? do you think the man who said "who needs friends when you have power" would be confused by the depths of guilt and regret his future self possesses? do you think the man who laughed alongside lmanburg's enemies as his once-friends suffered defeat would scoff at the idea of spending years and years trying for forgiveness, when he knows anyone in his position would've done the same.
i understand why the eret of the present said she doesnt recognize the person she was two years ago.

Wilbur saying he doesn't remember Eret helping Pogtopia, like, my brother in Prime you literally called it "adorable" when Eret told you & the Pogtopia crew Dream took away their kingship because they, and I quote, "chose friendship over power" by helping you & Pogtopia

Thank you so much for all the support on the lore today!
After almost 2 years of regret and begging for forgiveness, c!eret now believes they have achieved redemption. Tommy, Tubbo, and now finally Wilbur have all accepted Eret's apologies. Even if they may not trust Eret as they did before, c!Eret is now able to move beyond trying to redeem themself for the biggest mistake they ever made.
------
Back in reality, this ties off the longest running arc of my character on the Dream SMP (until we open the book at least). The person I was in July 2020 when I first joined is very different from the person I am now. I have evolved a lot as a person along side my character. Back then everything was so overwhelming. Now I feel in control of my own future.
Thank you everyone who enjoyed the lore! Lore terrifies me as even though we have a rough outline of plot points, most of the stuff we say is improvised and I have very little experience with that. Occasionally someone says or does a thing they don't mean to say or do and we just have to roll with it because it's LIVE and tens of thousands of people are watching (I think we had about 60k people watching today total, that's more people than fit in Dodger Stadium in LA!)
I tried my very hardest to deliver a conclusion that would wrap up our characters' discourse in a satisfying way and I think we were able to do just that.
Thank you again for all the support!!! <3

@mcyt-yuri-week : AU/Post-Canon
I’ve had an au courtesy of @/philzas-early-gang-society stuck in my head where Hannah gets a redemption arc by going to the castle and working for Eret and well. I thought about it. A lot.

my issue with the “c!wilbur is escaping the narrative” is in three parts
1: wilbur is not deadpool, he’s a mentally ill person. this distinction is important because the “narrative” that he needs to escape is not the plot of the dream smp, it’s his own black and white thinking that’s lead to him railroading both himself and other people into villain and hero roles.
he’s gone out of his way to make up with as many characters as possible, even characters that he never would have forgiven before his death (such as eret), but he did what he thought he was Supposed To Do for his redemption arc. he created a New narrative of what he was supposed to do and followed it to the letter.
and moreover, in doing so he apologized for things that weren’t his fault, he forgave people without having his trauma caused by them actually Acknowledged, he threatened to kill himself to try to protect tommy from dream And Meant It just months ago (he was willing to kill himself as many times as it took according to cc!wilbur).
Obviously he’s going to get away from many of the people that remind him of his past, and I’m sure that Will help with some of his negative self thinking. but tommy said it best, “the person you need to learn how to forgive is yourself.” we didn’t watch wilbur learn how to love himself, we didn’t watch wilbur learn how to see himself as a normal person, we didn’t watch wilbur forgive himself. we watched wilbur learn how to say Sorry.
there is nothing about wilbur escaping His Own Narrative, because he’s taking that with him wherever he goes. because he’s still mentally ill and he’s still traumatized and he still hasn’t forgiven himself. he’s not Incapable of healing, he absolutely Can grow and change off screen. but that’s exactly it. his ending is that he Might heal off screen and we’ll just have to imagine it.
2: “wilbur escaped the narrative” in the context of the narrative he’s escaping from being the dream smp itself is not satisfying as an answer because it’s plainly describing the exact problem: there will be no conclusions to major story beats because this was done before his narrative was actually Over.
tubbo and wilbur’s conclusion Will Always Be that tubbo forgot the part where wilbur caused his husband to die right in front of him after tubbo deliberately didn’t forgive him because he didn’t trust wilbur and still hurt from the memory of the death He’d suffered while working under wilbur. he’ll never meet ranboo again after ranboo is revived, which means he’ll never get to apologize for taking one of ranboo’s lives, for playing a part in ranboo being trapped in limbo for like 1000 years. niki will never get to reintroduce wilbur into her life after her downspiral was connected to feeling Abandoned and wilbur will never find out that she’d had a villain arc because of him that lead to her trying to, you know, Murder His Brother. we lost out on a quackity resolution because of a Scheduling Issue.
wilbur never confronted his father for doomsday, for killing him, for dehumanizing ghostbur, for hurting his friends and family in his absence. things that were all set up and then dropped to the wayside in favor of pretending that nothing was wrong and that wilbur trusts his advice and judgement.
wilbur won’t be there when dream inevitably starts torturing tommy again, because whatever solution he made (temporary as it was always going to be) was predicated on him Being There To Be That Bargaining Chip.
none of his relationships will ever move forwards on screen again, and that’s a big problem when all of them were left off in places where they Needed to be developed to be emotionally satisfying. “wilbur escaped from the narrative,” in this context, means “wilbur’s story will never finish being told.”
he didn’t subvert the narrative, he got cancelled in the middle of production.
3: wilbur escaping the narrative, escaping from the dream smp, pushes that unstated boundary that traps the other characters in this spot.
if wilbur can literally just leave whenever that raises the question of why nobody else has ever left. why Wilbur didn’t just leave before, if there was never anything keeping them there in the first place.
the characters all stay in this location because they Have to stay for there to be a story. dream didn’t just kick the l’manbergians off the server when he didn’t like that they made a new country because doing so would mean that there’s no story.
why did vikk and lazar stay on the server to get tortured if they could just leave. why did fundy move Very Far Away on the server to self isolate if he could just leave. why did tubbo build snowchester instead of try to convince tommy and ranboo to leave the server. why does jack stay on the server when he feels completely disconnected from everybody else. why did tommy never try to escape off of the server during exile if the whole point was that he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere that’d been touched On The Server. why- why- why- why-
fundy moving Far Away means that he has a narrative reason for pulling away from the rest of the server while A: meaning he’s still technically Available for future lore if he ever wants to participate and B: He Doesn’t Make People Question The Inherent Rules Of The Narrative.
you Can come up with explanations for why x character didn’t make that choice in y situation, but there were was a flesh eating egg that made people do autocannibalism. there’s a serial killer with a revival book and the want to torture on the loose. there was enough tnt dropped on a town to match the blast of a nuclear bomb but Straight Down into the earth’s crust. there’s an evil god that intentionally torments people, up to and including in their afterlife if they die on this server.
“wilbur escaped the narrative” So Why Is There Still A Narrative?

hi everyone. I'd like to talk to you today about my awareness campaign. of this scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image id: screenshots from tommyinnit's 'the end of our nation (dream smp)' video. tommy is climbing the hill behind L'Manberg, and the subtitles read "tubbo's betrayal!" in red for eret, and "get up here." in blue for schlatt".]
this is right after Tommy & Wilbur are kicked out of L'Manberg, Schlatt calls Tubbo up to the podium and he goes. and Eret (red text) says this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image id: more screenshots. schlatt's blue subtitles read "tubbo." while eret's red ones read "tubbo, I didn't know you were capable of such a thing!"]
and it always really annoyed me! how can c!Eret say that, traitor king themself? they hadn't started their regret + redemption arc proper yet, how can they judge other people for betraying their friends? and in this lesser way that Tubbo has! it always annoyed the heck out of me.
and then (thanks to Tommy's subtitles), I hear a line I've never heard before.
Tumblr media
[image id: another screenshot. eret's subtitles read "I'm proud." in capital letters.]
and the whole exchange is gold.

god my last post has got me thinking now about. how eret and wilbur's seperate betrayals and their subsequent redemption arcs really showcase how different the characters the two are close to have changed over the course of the smp.
the reaction to eret's betrayal was shouted rage and long-held grudges, meanwhile the reactions to wilbur's was far more soft-spoken and hidden. the response to eret's attempts at redemption was aggressive rejection at first, while the response to wilbur's ranged from quiet and simple acceptance to avoiding him entirely.
and it illustrates so beautifully how the events of the story have changed these characters. the young, boastful, hopeful versions at the time of eret's betrayal had, over the course of two years, become scarred by war, exhausted by political upheaval, and jaded by constant breaks of trust. they continue to refuse eret for a long time because their hate of him is familiar and safe, but forgive wilbur easily because they do not have the energy for more grudges to bear. these are characters that want to move on. so do eret and wilbur.
it takes a long, long while for the past to stop hanging over them, though.

I always find it weird how people essentially handle Krogan and Eret as
“Oh Eret joined the dragon riders so he he’s good now!” And “Krogan never joined the dragon riders so he’s objectively evil and we should hate him.”
When in reality with the situation about Drago and whatnot, both Eret AND Krogan were in an abusive situation with Drago, and Krogan, was most likely in that situation far longer than Eret was anyways. Krogan was called “Drago’s Star Pupil” by VIGGO HIMSELF. (You know, everyone’s favorite villain.) and it leaves enough to state that Krogan was most likely a literal child when Drago got his hands on him.
The other things that I will point out is that if this is true, from what I remember, Drago is 55ish in httyd 2, and essentially that could hint at the fact that Krogan has been with Drago since Krogan was around five, which would make Drago 35.
My point is that, despite the fact that we’ve actively seen Krogan doing bad things, a lot of his actions can essentially and very easily be boiled down to just following orders, and the fear of being hurt by Drago. Eret clearly has PTSD (thanks @rodimus75leek for pointing that one out Btw) but if Eret has PTSD from Drago, then so does Krogan, especially since Krogan has suffered from twenty years worth of abuse from Drago.
The reason why Krogan NEVER thought to abandon Drago was because he most likely had Stockholm Syndrome, and/or he thought that he was desreving of the horrendous treatment that he was most likely subjected to at a young age because he thought it was normal for someone “Like Him” to be treated as nothing more than a tool.
Krogan’s behavior, underneath this thought process, is also completely understandable because that is how the human mind works. If faced with stress or threats, the human mind will force itself to DO AS TOLD, because like any animal, the survival of itself is far more important than the individual’s moral code. And this is a proven theory.
The fact that this is also a very complex thing, that can be scurried down to whatever is that whenever people are making jabs at Krogan, and then proceed to hold Viggo Grimborn up on a pedestal like he is better than Krogan in any way is also disgusting. Viggo isn’t better than Krogan. He’s worse, objectively.
No matter how you put it, pre redemption arc Viggo is not a sympathetic character. While he may have had trauma in his past, Viggo committed war crimes that broke the Geneva Convention on several occasions, such as going after civilians that were not involved in a war he was fighting, simply because they were allied with his current enemy.
Pre-Redemption arc Viggo Grimborn’s sole intention for dragon hunting, was for the money. He said it himself. He is not a monster, he is a businessman. He doesn’t see the things he’s doing out of pure greed as evil because at the end of the day, he was essentially the How to Train Your Dragon version of Elon Musk. A multibillionaire dragon hunting CEO who only cares about profits.
Going back to Krogan, the worst things he’s done on screen is the singetail breeding program (which you know, happens all the time with people breeding dogs irl), and the fact that Krogan killed someone on screen. Which guess what? VIGGO DID THAT TOO.
Calling Krogan evil, simply because he never reached out for help or sided with the dragon riders, is gross. It is victim blaming.

listen it’s great that c!Eret did their redemption arc but “I built L'manberg and I tore it down. These men, they never earned anything themselves. It was mine to destroy" god I kind of miss evil c!Eret and the fact those quotes weren’t saved in any archived vod is a tragedy. Every time the betrayal comes up I just think about how much was lost, man

Favourite arc on the Dream SMP?
NLM - Disc Finale is inclusive of butcher army, exile arc, bedrock bros and doomsday
‘Something else’ is mainly referring to a specific character arc that wasn’t really a part in other major lore, such as George and XD, Fundy’s dreams or even something like Eret’s redemption
Reblog for bigger sample. Tagging won’t get me far here honestly and my followers are probably majority inniters
