My parents were young migrant workers, my dad was brought into migrant work at a very young age, he dropped out of school when he was in middle high to do so. He was brought into migrant work by his mom and his moms mom, and so on. Migrant work is all my dad knew, on the other hand, my mom finished school, and attended university prior to getting pregnant, which pushed her into working in such conditions. Still was very interested in continuing to educate herself in any way possible. In the early 2000’s my parents officially decided to stay in Colorado, even though they could have chosen from California, New Mexico, Arizona, or Colorado, my parents were set on Colorado. My mom, still wanting to expand her knowledge , began taking English classes at our local Migrant Head Start, a head start that was for migrant families in the summer to provide child care services and early childhood education. My mom has no ESL (English as a second language) degree whatsoever, but, my mom took time out of her day and energy to not only teach herself English, but to help her 5 year old daughter with her english. My dad on the other hand didn't bother learning the language, and soon after getting basic knowledge on the language, I became my dads personal interpreter. 

Now growing up in a strictly spanish speaking household, even after learning english. My parents made it more of a priority to speak Spanish at home as much as possible, because they believed that in not doing so, we would lose our spanish my dad would go off and yell, “No no no en esta casa se abla Espanol, nada de ese engl-eesh” or “Na nada de eso, espanol por favor”, Making it hard to practice my english at times outside of school, but still very much grateful for this decision now. In school I strictly spoke english, because besides being the only place I could practice, my teachers would make it a priority we only spoke english as school, especially those in the ESL program. This is what always confused me about the situation. I wasn't allowed to speak Spanish at school, but I became my school's interpreter on almost every occasion, so you know, I kinda had to speak Spanish for that. Same at home, I was not allowed to speak English to or around my parents inside the house or outside, but yet I was always told "Mija diles esto…” and I went off speaking english. At the time, it made it hard to be encouraged in being the bilingual student or the interpreter everywhere I go, but now thinking back, I wouldn't have it any other way. Boy was that annoying, but no one else would do it.  Even though there were times where I wished I only knew one language and cried, because other children and peers would make fun of my accent, in which now, I am extremely thankful. Everytime I felt like not wanting to speak because I said ‘Cinnamon’ instead of ‘synonym’ (say it out loud and tell me it doesn't sound the same) I always had my momma cheering me on. Times where I felt frustrated because  I couldn't understand a concept, my mom was also there reminding me that being bilingual is an honor, and should be embraced and would tell me, “Nunca te avergüences por tu lenguaje! Puedes conquistar el mundo sabiendo dos lenguajes , nunca te avergüences mija” (Never be ashamed for your language. You can rule the world knowing 2 languages). Boy, my mama couldn't be more right…

Hello there I come with all the excitement for the DinBo dynamics I thank @dinboweek2024

and I'm kind of sad because I couldn't do something higher in tone, BUT sweet things don't take away the lustful side of life (insert fire emoji lol)

I was inspired by some writings of the Uruguayan writer "Mario Benedetti" to show this series of images.

I feel and many do too; that since Din and Bo met in Trask; The flame ignited.

These two felt like a pair of magnets and the body language, verbal and visual, never failed. It was pure attraction.

Here I leave you a segment of "The Truce" Because for Din and Bo to begin to live more closely, they needed to work together, even with different priorities.

Bo definitely gave in to his own ideals and feelings to help Din. A woman with an irascible and temperamental character, helping Grogu. It was quite a character development and Din feeling supported by a Mandalorian, who gives him a purpose within his people, is because he knows that "The Mandalorians are stronger together"

New and Improved Writeblr Intro

I didn't really know what I was doing the first time and my WIP priorities have changed, so here we go again.

Call me Moshke Palmoni (they/them). I spend as much time as I can writing, but that is not as much as it might be because there's also a lot of life going on right now. I also like to read, knit, collect vintage ephemera, and play with my cat. Most of my time currently is taken up with fixing up the 100-year-old house I just bought. It's lovely but it was not cared for in the last couple decades and the previous owners made some interesting decisions. I also visit libraries and museums as much as possible.

To Die Among the Stars

First draft about half done at ~50k words.

In the future, 20 people are sent into space on a second test of an FTL drive, aiming for a habitable planet. The first test was a disaster, so this time they’re more careful—the volunteers are only needed for data on how humans fare at faster than light speeds, so they are selected from prisons and “mental wellness centers” and areas where people would agree to a suicide mission for the promise of feeding their families. No one expects them to live, just to provide enough data to improve the next test. Told from 4 POVs: Pixel, a semiverbal black market modder; Ri, who has so many illicit mods embedded in his body he can no longer experience the world the way most people do; Zippy, a young disabled woman desperate to support her family; and Peppermint, a genetic experiment combining human and cat DNA raised in a lab with only a sentient android for company. Despite all expectations, the group bands together for survival.

A Blade of Ice

In the outlining stage.

Working title. Part of the Legends of Halara series, which follows 1,000 years of fantasy kingdom history. About 300 years into that history, Princen Aryel is born. Aryel is never good at going along with expectations but has a certain duty eso must follow to take care of eson kingdom. Aryel is one of three royal children and not expected to rule, but after eson youngest sibling dies relatively young Aryel has to take on the responsibilities of both leading the army in a generation-long war and leading the kingdom through a time of shortages and despair. Aryel often clashes with the noble advisors in ways eson sibling never did, and the balance between who Aryel is at war and who eso is at court is not an easy one. It certainly doesn't help that in a world of politically arranged marriages, Aryel always seems to be in love with the wrong person.

Cold Iron

In the outlining stage.

Shakatra is 107 years old. They are also 33. They are a rare case of a Fae changeling surviving to adulthood without being killed or dying from iron exposure or the weak constitution common among Fae children chosen to be left. They survived long enough to gain magical strength not only beyond any human but beyond many of the more minor Fae. They used to use this to exert power over Wild Fae, to protect humanity, to exact revenge, or just for fun. Now, however, they are widowed and retired with two kids to take care of. Their brother Kris, also their best (only?) friend is equally happy to be done with that world. Neither of them are prepared for it to find them again. When there is a Fae threat against the entire world, Shakatra may be the only one with the power to stop it and enough love of humanity to bother. But things are not what they seem and questions of betrayal, priorities, and what they are willing to do to protect the life they've built are harder to fight than a direct battle, insidious like the creeping poison of iron.

Backburner WIPs

Time to Kill

Working title. Esther Dahan is part of one of the first teams ever sanctioned to use time travel technology. Against all historical odds, they aren’t cops or soldiers—they’re anthropologists. Her team specializes in Jewish history specifically, and as tough as it is to leave her young daughter behind for long stretches the team is like her family as they get to truly experience what life was once like, always careful not to change anything (the butterfly effect having been disproven, they must still not share too much information or come in contact with major figures). And yet, something is off. In more and more time periods, they find suspicious activity. But they can never quite get enough proof to convince anyone why this matters—why they should believe that these scientists found the first known rogue travelers. It’s not until trying to solve the mystery on their own leads to Esther’s life being torn apart that they’re taken seriously, and even then her team might be the only ones capable of finding out the truth and stopping something even worse.

A Tangled Knot of Gold

Also in the Legends of Halara series, about 200 years into the kingdom's history. Tlapil is the cousin of the heir to the throne, Soter, who is also the only person who treats eso like a person because eso is semi-verbal with unusual body language and interests. Tlapil's main useful skill seems to be mapmaking, but when the kingdom needs unusual solutions Tlapil's ready to help—along with eson only other friend, who happens to be a slime. Having proven esonself, eso holds a respectable position as advisor to eson cousin, but when tragedy threatens to tear apart the entire kingdom it might be up to Tlapil to find a way to hold it together.

Falling Petals

A story of imperfect love and family and undiagnosed disability across generations (they're all autistic before they would have been called that). Ira Katz was born in 1913, the only child of Russian Jewish immigrants. He was clever and charming, but there was always something off-putting about him. He didn't understand why blunt observations and mean jokes went unappreciated. He would give long and detailed lectures on his interests, which included photography, without regard to anyone else's level of interest. He spent his adult life working in the drugstore he inherited from his father and had 4 children with his wife, though he never knew how to connect, loving them from a distance.

Ira's second child, Daniel (born 1939), was also odd and isolated. He was gentle and generous but mocked for being sensitive, for his silly attempts at being serious and adult too soon. So he learned to channel his pain from tears to rage and disappear into comic books to forget about the world. He learned to script friendly conversations so no one could see his confusion or pain. He studied architecture because it was more manly than becoming a librarian, married a teacher, and had twin daughters. He refused to become his father--he never mocked his kids and he spent some time with them--but the pain and overwhelm and frustration would burst out of him in rages that terrified them.

One of Daniel's daughters, Shoshana (born 1961) was also odd. She was bright but seemed young for her age, clinging to toys her sister had long discarded. She had a bad habit of freezing when confused or scared, so she would stare blankly and just not answer people. She cried easily. She read constantly but failed out of college and ended up back with her parents and no chance of marrying or living alone. She convinced herself she was stupid.

And then Shoshana's sister had a daughter, Naomi (born 1987). Naomi was odd in a way Shoshana recognized, and she was determined not to project her own pain onto her niece but to use this chance to break the cycle of pain and give a child a chance to grow up loving herself and her differences.

This is a completely scrapped scene, so the events in the fic are different, but I initially planned TIT to be a oneshot, so this was meant to be the meeting scene!

When Yuuji got a boyfriend, the entire Kusozu household was up in arms. 

“What’s his name?” Choso managed, playing it so cool. So, so cool.

Yuuji smiled widely, a faint pink dusting his cheeks. 

“Fushiguro Megumi.” Yuuji said. The amount of joy and awe he imbued into something as simple as his boyfriend’s name took Choso aback. But not too aback.

“Your friend from school?” Choso said. “I knew he looked at you weird…”

“Huh?” Yuuji said, looking a bit put-upon. 

“Anyway,” Choso said. “How long have you two been dating?”

“Hm? Just today! I know people probably wait to tell their family about a relationship, but I’m excited and it makes me happy– so I wanted to tell you straight away.” 

“Ass-kisser.” Sukuna scoffed.

“Don’t know if he’ll be the one doing the ass-kissing in that relationship.” Eso said. Sukuna snorted, and Kechizu bumped his head against Eso’s elbow to get into the conversation.

“I saw Fushiguro stare at his ass too!”

“What?!”

And if that wasn't bad enough, Sukuna just had to go out that night and get drunk at a party.

Choso was fuming, Yuuji could see it in his eyes. But he was also really, really worried and that took priority over scolding Sukuna, who was obviously very distressed. 

Obviously very distressed because he was sobbing and crying real, actual tears as he clung to Yuuji and babbled absolute nonsense at him. 

“And I would never, ever kill you by ripping your heart out or cutting your head off or forcing you to eat all 20 of my fingers or—”

“I know, Suku-nii.” Yuuji said, looking resolutely ahead and wondering if it wasn’t just alcohol Sukuna had taken tonight. Choso would probably be the one asking him, if he weren't also crying because Sukuna was. This household...

“And I know it sounds fucking stupid but I don’t want you to get a boyfriend yet because you’re my twin and I only just got you, why should he take you away? And he’s not even good enough for you he’s a fucking wimp I could, honestly, I could fucking destroy him. And your boyfriend should- should be someone, should ask me if he can have you first! He never even asked me! And I would say no! And he never even payed— any— fucking— dowry!” Sukuna hiccuped violently between his slurred words.

Yuuji sighed long and hard.

"I know. Suku-nii."

"Y'know Uraume never paid us any dowry either and you're fine dating them." Kechizu said, using a makeup wipe to carefully wipe Sukuna's eyeliner off.

"I'm not dating Uraume!" Sukuna sobbed, sounding downright miserable.

"You could be." Yuuji snarked. It was the wrong thing to do, apparently, because seconds later Drunkuna was pushing him so hard he landed halfway across the room.

"Shut up! You don't know anything!"

"Yes I do!" Yuuji scoffed, glaring at him as he picked himself up. He rubbed his tailbone lightly. He just knew he was gonna have a bruise the size of his face there tomorrow.

"Are you alright, Yuuji?" Choso asked, leaving a glass of water with Sukuna before coming over to see if he could do anything, all the while wiping his own tears away.

"Yeah, I— oof!"

Yuuji was cut off by a sudden tackle from Drunkuna. For a second, he thought his twin was picking a fight, so he geared himself up to throw him off and pay him back for the bruise— but the hits never came.

Instead, Sukuna was sobbing again.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you..." He cried.

Yuuji sighed.

"Yeah, yeah, you big baby." He muttered.

"Smile!"

"What—"

And before he could react or try to stop him, Eso was taking a picture and immortalising the moment.

Even though it would 100% be at the expense of Sukuna over him, Yuuji couldn't bring himself to feel any of the mischievous joy he usually would at the thought of embarrassing his twin. Instead, he wondered, not for the first time, what exactly he'd gotten himself into.

"Let's get him to play Fortnite next!" Eso said, hurrying over to the TV.

New report sets course for future of European astronomy The ASTRONET Science Vision and Infrastructure Roadmap 2022 to 2035 is the latest comprehensive roadmap produced by the ASTRONET network of European funding agencies and research organizations. The network includes the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). ASTRONET is an independent consortium whose aim is to create a common science vision for all European astronomy by convening diverse groups to ask some of the biggest questions in science. Professor Amelie Saintonge (UCL Physics & Astronomy), lead editor of the report, said, "The technology behind the facilities that allow for ground-breaking astronomical discoveries often takes decades to mature. This is why it is essential to take a long term and global look at our scientific priorities, as we do in the ASTRONET Science and Infrastructure Roadmap." "The Roadmap highlights the need for a balanced and integrated infrastructure where large flagship observatories are complemented by smaller rapid-response facilities, computation and data centers, as well as laboratory facilities and technology development infrastructures. "Another growing priority of the community is that astronomical research is conducted in a sustainable and equitable manner, that also fulfills our roles as educators and responsible citizens. The report highlights the importance of including these considerations right at the first moments of decision making." Panels including over 100 scientists from across Europe fed into the report and a series of public consultations were also held to ensure that it reflected the breadth of views within astronomy. These established key priorities, such as understanding the origin of the Universe and the evolution of planets in our solar system, as well as making recommendations on the facilities and resources needed to meet these priorities. In making its recommendations, the report considers recently published visions provided by the European Space Agency, NASA, and advisory bodies such as the particle astrophysics consortium. The aim of the report is to create an openly accessible resource for policymakers and science leaders to support informed decisions that more effectively and efficiently direct scientific discovery. The previous ASTRONET Science Vision and Infrastructure Roadmap (published in 2007 and revised in 2015) included recommendations which fed into proposals for projects such as: The European Southern Observatory (ESO) Extremely Large Telescope in Chile The Square Kilometre Array Observatory, which is headquartered at Jodrell Bank near Manchester These and other recommended initiatives have gone on to receive significant UK support and involvement. Through recommendations such as these, the ASTRONET Roadmap has become a valuable source of information for the benefit of the entire research community. The recommendations of the latest report include: Timely construction of the Cherenkov Telescope Array to detect very high energy gamma rays from black holes and other extreme phenomena Adoption of the European Space Agency Athena and Laser Interferometer Space Antenna missions to study black holes, detect and accurately measure gravitational waves from astronomical sources and more Development of second-generation instruments to enhance the capability of the ESO Extremely Large Telescope Introduction of more robust environmental footprint assessments for astronomical research and greater consideration of how to reduce the environmental impact of space science Investing in people to guarantee our ability to foster scientific and technological advances in astronomy Researchers at UCL Physics & Astronomy as well as the Mullard Space Science Laboratory at UCL have key roles in many of the initiatives and facilities discussed in the roadmap. I was watching a video that poses several good questions that I thought would make for interesting discussion. The overall question it posed is if having access to information takes the fun out of discovery in video games?

Now, I feel like that, for myself, the answer depends on the situation and the game that I am playing. For example, the reason that I couldn’t play Breath of the Wild on my own is because I felt like I didn’t know where to go or what I am supposed to be doing and the game gave me very little hints as to that. I wanted the most efficient route to get from the start to completing the kill Ganon quest and I felt frustrated and like I was not having fun when I would play. On the otherhand, when I sit down and play Minecraft, I just wander around, explore, mine, collect materials and so on and I don’t feel rushed or anything. I don’t feel like I need to find the most efficient route to get to and kill the End Dragon because I just don’t care because Minecraft is relaxing to me.

Now some of the big things I agree with in the video is when it comes down to MMORPG games and I am going to use The Elder Scrolls Online as an example. In the video, they mention going into raids but having to know the raid beforehand and I have seen something similar. I’ll start with trial groups in guilds that when you go to sign up to take part in the trial require one to know the trial inside and out before you can join the trial group. Same goes for dungeon groups too. The worst I’ve seen is when people go into random dungeons with random people, ask if anyone knows the dungeon they’re in, realizes no one knows it and then leaves the dungeon group because of it. There are very few random people or guild people that are willing to go into dungeons or trials with other people that don’t know the dungeon or trial they’re going to go into.

I’ve also seen the instance in ESO where I’ve gone into a dungeon that either myself, others or everyone in the group doesn’t know, we get as far as we can and then we get stuck or keep dying so much that someone ends up looking up a YouTube video or written walkthrough of wherever we are which sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn’t and sometimes the group gets so frustrated that we give up.

For myself, even when it comes to open world games, my priority when I start the game is that I want to get through the main story first and then after that I will explore and do the side content. That’s why I prefer knowing exactly where I am going and what I should be doing to get there. Now, puzzles in games are something that I am most likely to look up without trying for myself because I hate puzzles in most games but that’s just me. I feel like the best example I can think of is the first time I played Portal. This was back when I didn’t have access to decent internet and so when I’d get stuck in a room, I had to call my friend for help. But, once I knew each of the rooms I could play much more efficiently than the first time. Same thing happened when I played Portal 2.

Now, this also makes me think of the opposite of when people complain that a game like Skyrim holds the players hand too much just because it's puts markers on where you go during quests. They complain that it takes away from the exploration but I don't think so myself. You can go off in any direction you want to. You don't have to quest if you don't want to. I just find all this to be interesting.

Mi mes de español - My month of Spanish

Hola todos! Como escribí hace un mes, quiero probar este reto de enfocarme solo a un idioma al mes. Octubre fue mi mes de español y quería pasar una hora y media al día con español (+ 30 minutes de sueco). No voy a mentiros, fue un poco difícil – empecé mi primero trabajo y es por le primera vez en mi vida cuándo tengo que pasar 8 horas al día en un trabajo, cada día. También sigo estudiando mi masters. Pero el resulto de este reto es increíble - pasó mucho más horas con español que planeaba. Tenía suerte que mi novio era en cuarentena y podía cocinar y limpiar el piso. Pero, los resultados:

Pasó casi 50 horas con español!

Primero quería leer todo el resto de Harry Potter (he leído el libro antes y me quedaban como 150 páginas para terminarlo), pero al final no podía. Es que tengo que leer para la universidad y también estaba muy cansada del trabajo y no tenía ganas de leer. Pero leí 94 páginas y eso me parece mucho pensando en las circunstancias.

Escribir no era mi prioridad, así que escribí solo una página en mi diario, pero también escribí con gente en tandem. Y escribí 4 posts aquí!

Hablar fue algo que me gustaba mucho. Mi objetivo era hablar cada día por al menos 5 minutos. Y lo logré! Hablé en total 217 minutos, que son más que 3 horas y medio!

Y ahora lo más importante y lo que me gusta lo más - escuchar. Escuché mucho a mi playlist español en spotify. Vi muchos videos de mis youtubers favoritos y también vi una película que se llama Fuimos canciones. Pero lo más importante es - vi La casa de papel. Esta serie me gustaba tanto! Fue lo mejor en este mes, no podía parar de verla o pensar sobre la.

Y que opino sobre este reto de octubre? Me gustaba mucho. Eché de menos el español y fue genial pasar tanto tiempo con el idioma. Los primeros días no podía hablar en absoluto, siempre usaba palabras suecas o pronunciación sueco. Pero poco a poco fue más fácil. Y me encanta hablar en español! Aunque hago tantos errores. Lo que me noté es que tengo problemas con la gramática – especialmente con los tiempos verbales. No he pasado mucho tiempo con la gramática, más con la inmersión, pero la próxima vez que hago esto tengo que enfocarme en la gramática – al menos un poco.

Hi everyone! As I wrote a month ago, I want to try this challenge of focusing only on one language on month. October was my Spanish month and I wanted to spend an hour and a half a day on Spanish (+30 minutes on Swedish). I won't lie, it was a bit difficult – I started my first job and for the first time in my life I have to spend 8 hours a day there, every day. I'm also still studying my masters. But the results of this challenge are incredible – I spent more time with Spanish than I initially planned. (I was lucky that my boyfriend had to be in quarantine for a week and had time to cook and clean the flat.) But, the results:

At fist I planned to read the rest of my Harry Potter (I've been reading it this year but I had like 150 pages left) but I didn't manage to do it. I have to read a lot for uni and I was tired from work and just didn't feel like reading. But I read 94 pages and that feels like a lot, taking the circumstances into the account.

Writing wasn't my priority, so I wrote like one page in my diary, but I also wrote with some people on tandem. And I wrote 4 posts here! (+ this one, I guess).

Talking was something I liked a lot. My goal was to speak every day for at least 5 minutes. And I did it! I talked in total for 217 minutes, which is more than 3 and a half hours!

And now the most important thing and something I liked the most – listening! I listened a lot to my spanish playlist on spotify, saw videos of my favourite youtubers and I also saw one Spanish movie. But the most important thing – I saw La casa de papel (Money Heist). I loved it so much! It was the best thing this month, I couldn't stop watching or thinking about it.

And what do I think about this October "challenge"? I liked it a lot. I missed Spanish and it was great to spend so much time with it. The first day I couldn't speak at all, I always used Swedish words or pronunciation. But, bit by bit, it got easier. I love speaking Spanish. Even though I make a lot of mistakes. I noticed I have a problem with the grammar, especially with the verb tenses. I haven't spend much time on grammar, I was doing mostly immersion, but the next time I do this with Spanish, I need to focus on grammar, at least a little bit.

Luna enters the hospital room. “Simón, I came as fast as I can. What happened?” Luna looks over Simón and Ámbar worriedly. “No nothing, just an athlete’s injury,” Simón chuckles. “Glad to see you still have your good humor,” Luna chuckles too. “He sprained his ankle which means he won’t be able to participate in the competition,” Ámbar confesses. “No no, I’m all good. I’m perfectly fine, I can and will participate in that competition-" “No you won’t. The doctor said you can’t do any extraneous activities including roller skating.” Ámbar cuts Simón off. He sighs with dismay.

“Well at least I have good news. Our team qualified for the competition!” Luna mentions. They all quietly cheer with happy hands since they’re at a hospital and want Simón to rest. “Well honey, I’mma let you get some rest okay,” Ámbar gets up from her chair and kisses Simón before heading out the door with Luna.

“I can’t believe this happened. Simón must have been in huge pain. I feel bad not being there,” Luna admits. “Don’t feel bad, he’ll recover soon. I know Simón. You were going through a lot too, it made sense for you to leave. Sometimes when we’re stressed, we need peace and some alone time. We sadly have another issue at our hands though. We have no one to replace Simon,” Ámbar states.

“Do you have anyone in mind?” Luna asks. “Nope. No one that I know of at school know how to skate. I think it’s also too late to hold auditions for a replacement.”

Luna scratches her head and keeps thinking. “Is there anyone you have in your contacts from working with other teams in the past that you know that can help us?” Luna suggests. Ámbar takes out her phone and scrolls through her contacts. A familiar name pops up. “I think I know someone who can help,” Ámbar glares towards Luna. She presses the call button and waits for a response.

Jam and Roller

Jazmin enters the locker room and sees a note taped on to her locker. “Meet me at Fountain Park, I would love to get to know those sparkly eyes, from your secret admirer.” Jazmín starts jumping up and down. Delfi enters and sees her best friend ecstatic. “Wow I’m shocked you would be this happy after what just happened to Simón,” Delfi remarked. “What? No! I’m not happy for that! I’m happy for this!” Jazmín hands Delfi the note. Delfi’s eyes grow large. “Wow Jazmin, this is awesome. A little sketchy but intriguing.” Jazmín squeals, “I know right, it’s my two favorite things! I’m so excited and so curious too! I wonder who it could be?” Delfi nods. “Yes, I’m very happy for you but I think it’s best I go with you just in case the guy is a creep. I don’t want you to go alone. Better yet, me and Pedro can accompany you. Once we see it’s someone safe, we’ll leave you be,” Delfi advises. “Well, if you say so,” Jazmin responds.

Simón goes one step at a time into the cafeteria with crutches. The doctor let him get released early since Simón wasn’t feeling much pain and begged the doctor. Nico and Pedro help Simón sit down and get readjusted. “I feel awful,” Simón exclaims. “What? But you said you weren’t feeling much pain to the doctor?” Luna asks. “No, I don’t mean that. I meant that I feel awful that you guys now don’t have another member for the team,” Simón moped. “Don’t worry about that. The main priority is you having a fast recovery. We’ll look for a replacement and everything will be okay,” Luna tries to comfort Simón. Luna then heads over to Ámbar and whispers, “so how did the phone call go?”

“She didn’t pick up, so I just left her a message. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for her response,” Ámbar says. Juliana enters the room. “Even though Simón has gotten hurt, which I hope you feel better soon dear, that doesn’t mean we should all stop training. The competition is coming close, and we need to seriously prepare. While Ámbar and Luna look for a replacement, we shall keep moving forward with our training.” The whole gang head to the rink and start practicing.

Nico stays with Simón and serve all the guests their food and drinks. Simón calls Nico over. “Look I don’t want to sit here and do nothing to help the gang out. I want to do something, but it feels like I’m powerless not getting to skate with them,” Simón admits.

“You’re not powerless, and we can still help them without skating.” Simón looks confused, “like what?” Nico waits thinking. “I have an idea. You know how the Roller Band is back. Well how about we perform the song in the back while they skate in the competition. Something fresh while keeping it like old times like when we performed ‘I’ve Got a Feeling.’ You don’t have to stand, you can sit down on a chair while still playing your guitar and singing,” Nico suggests.

“Amigo, eso es padrisimo! That is an incredible idea! There’s just one thing… Pedro won’t be able to perform with us since he’ll be skating with the gang,” Simón claimed. “It’s okay cause we can have Yam sing with us, I don’t think she’s skating in the team.” Simón starts cheering, getting really excited. “I’ll start practicing the chords!”

Wedding Dress Fitting

Monica, Luna, Nina, Delfi, and Jazmín sit huddled around. Jim and Yam had to decline their invitation due to them helping out Nico fill in shifts and rehearse the Roller Band performance for the competition. Ámbar enters with the first dress. “I hope Simón recovers in time for the wedding. I wouldn’t want to see him hurt on our wedding day,” Ámbar sighs. “Well since you aren’t going to have your wedding till a few months after the competition, I think he will get back to walking by then,” Monica assumes.

Ámbar turns and show the gang her dress. “Wow Ámbar you look like a princess!” Luna exclaims stunned. Monica and the gang agrees. “It looks nice, but I don’t like how it’s so plain,” Ámbar says. She goes with the seamstress to the racks of dresses.

While everyone waits for Ámbar to enter with a different dress, Jazmín breaks the silence. “So, since everyone is silent, I have something to say. I have a secret admirer and I’m going to meet him today!” Jazmín reveals. Everyone cheers for Jazmín. “Yes, and Pedro and I are planning to accompany her just in case the dude isn’t sketchy, but we’re all very happy for her,” Delfi states. “I hope he’s charming, funny, kind, but also cute and maybe even a little spicy,” Jazmín says. “Oh, don’t we all,” the seamstress chimes in. “Jazmín, I hope when you say spicy you mean he likes spicy food,” Nina nervously comments. The whole gang begins to laugh. Ámbar tries all sorts of designs and looks till she finds her favorite one that she feels matches her aesthetic. “What about this one?” Ámbar asks on her fourteenth dress fitting.

“Ámbar you look like you’re glowing. You are a fairy now, wow.” Luna states. Ámbar giggles while the rest agree with Luna. “78% of women say that when it comes to choosing the perfect wedding dress, always stick with your gut,” Nina consoled. “So I guess this is the dress. I love it!” Ámbar announces. Jazmín takes out her tablet and begins filming. “This will look amazing on my Ja Jazmin channel!” “No Jazmin!” everyone yelled. “Jazmin you can’t post this since the groom and everyone else are not supposed to know how my dress looks yet. I want it to be a surprise on the day of the wedding,” Ámbar advised Jazmin. “Oh sorry. I didn’t know. Geez you guys didn’t have to be so harsh.”

Jim and Yam’s Apartment

Ramiro hurriedly knocks on the door. Yam opens. “Look Yam, I don’t know if you’ll agree or not but please listen to me. You must take that deal, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. No this doesn’t mean we should break up either because I truly think we can make this long-distance thing work okay. I’ll visit you every so often and you’ll do the same for me. We can make this work, I promise. I have waited for too long for us to just break up before this has even started,” Ramiro declares to Yam.

“Ramiro this is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. I find it actually pretty funny how I was going to suggest for us to do long-distance too because I don’t want to leave you either,” Yam tears up. Ramiro presses his lips against Yam and holds her tight. They capture this moment to remember it.

Jim appears behind Yam. “So…. This is awkward cause I’m in my PJs,” Jim protests. They start laughing when they see her wearing her unicorn PJs, she laughs with them too.

Delfi and Pedro enter the cafeteria. Luna and Nina rush over to them. “So, who’s Jazmín’s secret admirer? If you don’t mind me asking,” Luna questions. “So apparently it’s someone she already knew at the Fundom. He was part of one of the behind the scenes guys and even worked with Pixie a lot. He also viewed Jazmin on the side and had a big crush on her but didn’t know how to say it. He seems sweet and makes Jazmín happy, which is the important thing,” Delfi responds. “Awwww,” Luna and Nina say in unison.

“So have you guys figured out who will be the replacement for the team?” Nico asks. “Sadly no, from what I know of,” Luna responds. “I can’t believe this happened to Simón and so sudden too. The good thing though is that the Roller Band, sadly without me since I have to skate, get to sing at the competition,” Pedro chimes in. “Speaking of which, did Yam say yes to getting to sing with you guys?”

“Oh yes, she was thrilled. She thought the idea was creative and is excited to getting to sing with us again,” Nico responded. Ámbar walks over to where the gang is at the cafeteria. “So, any news on that contact?” Luna asks. “Sadly no, I think we’re going to have to find someone else,” Ámbar reveals.

The door’s bell chimes out loud when a familiar face walks into the place. “Hey guys! So, a little a birdy told me that the Jam and Losers are in desperate need of help. Well, you guys have come to the right person,” Emilia exclaims.

“Wow Jazmín will be upset knowing she may just have missed the news of the year,” Delfi admittedly surprised.

I've been studying Spanish for about 10 years now & I'm proud of my progress. I'm also lgbtq+ & so knowing trends in the Spanish speaking community is important to me. I've heard that gender neutral endings for non-binary people are an emerging trend. (I'll label it from here as nb.) Let's say an ending or convention is finally agreed upon. For the purpose of what I'm about to ask. In Denis Baron's book "What's Your Pronoun?" he teaches that Latin had a gender system where the neuter would be absorbed into the feminine & the feminine/neuter gets absorbed into the masculine. What's the emerging trend regarding gender heirarchy with the nb accomodations? Is it like it was in latin? Is it becoming non-absorbent? Is the nb absorbing the masculine/feminine? I know this is kind of niche, but I thought it was something cool to ask about even if it isn't as official yet.

So I’m not 100% sure I’m going to answer this correctly, so please let me know if I missed something or if there’s something specific you meant that I missed.

There is technically a neuter or neutral gender in Spanish, but it usually comes up in the context of a noun being absent. This neuter gender looks and conjugates like masculine singular, so much so that you could be forgiven for not knowing it exists:

el libro divertido = the fun book [m] la película divertida = the fun movie [f] lo divertido = what’s fun / the fun thing [n]

In the case of neuter gender, it exists without a noun and so it shows up with adjectives or a determiner of some kind where no noun is stated. Neuter gender is a stand-in:

por ese motivo = for that reason [m] por esa razón = for that reason [f] por eso = because of that [n]

Neuter gender only really applies to things that aren’t there, and abstract or amorphous concepts. It’s nebulous and vague, and it gets used as “it”. Because it’s “it”, it isn’t really suited for talking about non-binary people since it kind of denies personhood.

As for people who want to use nb forms, there’s unfortunately nothing that’s truly official but there are 3 ways that it can be done informally:

First is the @ (arroba). This isn’t necessarily the best option, but it’s used informally in contexts where it could be masculine or feminine since it looks like a mix of A and O. This might work better for people who are genderfluid, but not necessarily nb because it is literally A and O, the binary itself.

The second option is X. X has gained a lot of traction after being used as “Latinx” instead of designating latino or latina. Because X is used for an unknown variable in mathematics, using X where the gendered ending would be is like saying “masculine, feminine, both, or neither” it’s just kind of there. Informally you might see muchxs amigxs latinxs as a way to be inclusive, but it’s not officially accepted. This is similar to  xe, xem, xir in a way

The third is the use of the letter E. There are certain unisex adjectives in Spanish such as inteligente, exigente, urgente, alegre, amable etc. They end in E and don’t change based on gender, but will go into plural. There are some online communities that use the E and the pronoun elle [pronounced ey-yay], as an nb version of él and ella. I have seen people use nosotres instead of nosotros/nosotras and elles in place of ellos/ellas for example. 

The E is probably the easiest to understand choice because it has a clear pronunciation. The only issue is that you have to know how to work that into spelling in Spanish. For example amigo and amiga, but you’d need to spell it amigue for nb... because “GE” is pronounced like H, and “GUE” [as in guerra] has that hard G sound like in amigo/a.

But if we’re talking gender hierarchy in general, it would very likely tend towards masculine for Spanish.

Even in regular masculine vs. feminine, nosotras for example can only exist if the “we” is all feminine. You could have 99 women and 1 man and it would have to turn into nosotros “we” for masculine.

In most gender neutral official language, people will say things like: se busca un/una empleado/a “employee wanted”, but will refer to all employees as empleados unless they’re specifically talking about empleadas.

Most anything gender neutral will use masculine plural, like hola todos “hello everyone”

This is also ignoring words that are technically gendered but considered either inclusive [collective nouns] or gendered nouns that are somewhat unisex... For example la gente is collective as “people”, and la persona “person” applies to anyone. Words like el/la artista “artist”, el/la testigo “witness”, el/la modelo “model” and others change the article, but not the word.

There are also certain practices that I wonder how they would be impacted. For example, a man who rides a horse [a horseman] is el jinete. A woman who rides a horse [a horsewoman] would be la amazona. I don’t know which way nb would go, but I’m thinking probably they’d say jinete. Also not sure how caballero/dama “gentleman/lady” would work out, or how jefe “boss” would work because that’s implied masculine and jefa is feminine but it ends in E so I think it’d stay jefe for an nb person.

If we’re talking straight-up grammatical gender I’d say masculine has pretty much absorbed neutral gender already, and people know about lo but don’t really give it much thought since it takes “masculine” articles.

If we’re talking nb people, the tendency is to place more importance on masculine than feminine.

But say if there was 1 nb person and 99 women... I don’t know. My assumption is that it would take the nb ending, because in general the feminine is given least priority.

But again, I’m a langblr not a lingblr so I don’t know if I can give more than anecdotal thoughts and evidence. Someone more into linguistics can probably answer this more precisely

Amigos Na’ Mas// Richard Camacho

I’m supposed to be doing pieces of my final year project but Yashel has been running circles in my mind and I’m really unmotivated to do school work so y’all enjoy my word vomit.

Richard Camacho x Niana (Reader)

In which Rich’s girlfriend calls him ‘a friend’ while doing a video for their Youtube channel and he gets pressed.

“This is gonna start a war and I don’t want any part of it.” Zabdiel says quickly dismissing her attempt at dragging him into the situation she was about to cause.

Giving up on Zabdiel she turns to her resident partner in crime who’s already sporting a devious smirk letting her know that he’s in on whatever she has planned.

“Rich, hurry up or I’m starting without you.” She yells at Richard who’s currently fixing his hair in the hallway mirror.

“Un momento mami.” He yells back and she playfully rolls her eyes at the camera that has already started recording.

It takes another ten minutes before the Dominican drops onto the seat beside her to get the video started. They do the intro to their video before Richard takes the lead.

“We’re gonna be doing a Q&A video today and let’s just say shit’s gonna get deep.”

Niana’s phone starts ringing before they even start answering any questions. She answers leaving Richard swaying left to right in his own little world.

“Hola, qué lo qué ? Nah I’m not doing anything too important right now. I’m just filming a video for my channel.” He doesn’t hear what the other person says but he just keeps making silly faces at the camera knowing they’d just edit it out later.  

“We can hang out later ‘cause I’m kinda with somebody right now…I’m with a friend.” When the last word clicks in Richard’s head, he pauses not thinking he heard her right before she repeats the phrase and his head snaps in her direction.  

“You know the one that I make YouTube videos with.” He sits up in his seat lightly tapping her shoulders to get her attention and gestures to himself. “Amigos?” He mouths at her.  

“Sí, estoy con uno de mis amigos.” She ignores him. He gestures for her to end the call but she carries on like he’s invisible.

“Lemme call you back later…no it’s not that big of a deal, my friend just wants to get on with the video…alright then, I’ll call you back later.”

“Quién era eso? Qué quieres decir con amigo?” He’s asking as soon as she hangs up.

“A friend.”

“Estás hablando de mí y de YouTube. No soy tu amigo, soy tu marido.” He says seriously.

“You’re my friend.” She replies pushing at his chest lightly but he isn’t amused.

“You could’ve said boyfriend or husband but I’m not your friend. El orden en el que usted ha dicho eso es erróneo. You’re supposed to say he’s my husband who’s also my friend. You’re not supposed to say he’s a friend.” He explains to her.

“Pero eso es lo quería decir. No creo que sea tan serio.We friends aren’t we?” She replies laughing lightly.

“What the fuck do you mean? Don’t play dumb with me. Who was that for you to even be calling me a friend?”  

“Before anything Yashel we’re friends,”

“See but what I’m saying is that’s that typical flirting line and don’t tell me it’s not cause I used to do that shit before we met.”

“But I wasn’t flirting though.” She counters.

“Yeah but you called me a friend so you clearly don’t want that individual to know that you have a man.”

“Are you hearing yourself?” She laughs. “We have a whole ass YouTube channel together and you think nobody don’t know I have a man?”

“Everybody don’t be watching YouTube much less our channel and not everyone that knows us watches our YouTube channel.” He retorts.

“I don’t get why you’re freaking out, you’re my friend and I have a bunch of other guy friends…”

“You can have your bunch of guy friends but you don’t put me in that category. I’m not your friend, I’m your fucking husband.” He’s trying his best to remain calm but her nonchalant attitude is agitating him.

“You are my husband but you’re also my best friend- ”

“What’s priority then?” He cuts her off. “I’m your husband first and your friend second.”

“Technically you were my friend before you became my husband.” She retorts leaning back in her seat.

“What’s the point in telling that person that I’m your friend?” He says with a bit of attitude.

“What’s the point in telling them that you my husband?” She replies with the same attitude and little neck roll.  

Richard pauses and looks at her. “Don’t look at me like that, answer the question.Because your intentions sound like you don’t want that person to know that you have a significant other and-”

“That is not my intention and you know it, you’re thinking way too into it.” Niana cuts him off scooting closer to him. “You thinking too much and we supposed to be doing a Q&A but you wanna be accusing me of shit.”

“We would be doing that Q&A if you weren’t out here getting calls and calling me a friend. That’s fucking suspicious Niana.”

“Why is that suspect?”

“Cause you’re acting guilty.”  

“Your eyes look suspect.” She claps her hands together then points at him. “The ones that be quick to accuse be the ones with shit to hide. Who are you to accuse people? Unless you’re Jesus baby don’t be judging nobody.”

“Stop tryna be funny and don’t be tryna swerve your way out of this. I’m serious, who the fuck was that?” Niana knows she’s probably taking it a little far but his reaction was funny to her.

“I’m not even tryna be funny Yashel, what’s funny about the situation?”

“It’s not funny but you’re acting guilty though.”  

“You’re being a bit ridiculous right now.”

“I’m not being ridiculous.”

“You are.”

They both go back and forth like little kids until Niana starts laughing.

“Why’d you say it like that though?” She asks referring to the way he told her she’s behaving ridiculous.

“Stop tryna make me laugh.”

“Por qué?” She pouts at him.

“Don’t look at me like that. No cute shit, it’s not gonna work.”  

“Beso.” She says leaning towards him smiling.

“No.”

“Beso, Beso Beso,” she chants moving closer to him.  

“No! Qué sentido tenía casarte conmigo si vas a decirle a la gente que soy amigo?” Richard questions feeling a bit insecure which was something he rarely ever felt with her.She never gave him reason to feel that way or to doubt her.

“You asked me to marry you.”

“Then why’d you accept?”

“For fun?” she laughs leaning on him.

“Fun? What the fuck?” He pushes her back by her shoulders lightly and stares at her.“I’m not playing with you…” he says as she picks up her phone.

“Call that person back and let them know that you have a husband.”  

“You’re so annoying.” She dials back the number and puts her phone  on loudspeaker as he speaks.  

“Hello.” The person answers and if he wasn’t feeling the way he was he would’ve immediately recognized the voice on the line but he doesn’t.

“Can you please get homie out of his feelings?” She asks laughing.

“Who’s homie?”

“Richard.”  

“Yo who the fuck is that?” Richard questions just as the person on the phone asks,“Who’s Richard?”

“Who do you think it is pendejo?” She laughs asking Richard.He takes her phone as the person asks who’s Richard again and it’s only then that the voice clicks in his head.

“Really? Erick?? Fuck you bro.”

“Yooo E, he got so pressed.” She laughs as Richard just keeps saying fuck you Erick.

“Ohh, you wanna say that in my house?” Erick questions and Richard suddenly remembers that they’re at his house.In less than ten seconds Erick’s standing in the doorway telling Richard to square up.

“Erick bro, I forgive you.”  

“You say fuck me but you forgive me? I didn’t even say anything.A formal apology should do, I’ll take twenty thousand dollars.” He laughs.

“I forgive you for the prank, you didn’t say anything but you willingly participated in her antics.” Erick just shakes his head laughing and goes back to the living room with Chris.

“So that was the content for the Q&A?” She turns to her.

“There was no Q&A baby,” she smiles kissing his cheek. “I just needed you here as payback for that last prank you pulled on me.

“Oh thank god, ain’t no way I was sitting through a Q&A video after that shit.” He sighs. “Thank you guys for watching this damned video, hope y’all had a good laugh,” he leans in close to Niana “and I hope you know that this means war.” He kisses her chastely before hopping up out his seat and out the door already plotting his revenge prank on her.

“Bring it on.” She says to the camera as she ends the video.
