365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
January 30th - Puck
Eugene Milton Judd was born in 1914 somewhere in rural Canada.  He grew to become an exceptionally large man, with great strength and a highly skilled hand to hand fighter.  Seeking adventure, Judd traveled the world.  He became a mercenary and had numerous encounters with supernatural threats.  During the Second World War, Judd sought out to obtain the Black Blade of Baghdad so to ensure the weapon did not fall into the hands of the Axis Forces.
Judd succeeded, yet when he took hold of this mystical blade he was immediately attacked by a spectral entity known as The Black Razor.  Judd was able to fight off this spirit for a short while, apparently gaining the entity’s respect.  As such, it then transferred its energies into Judd.  This had the effect of greatly enhancing Judd’s strength and also elongating his lifespan.  It additionally seemed to compress his physical form.  This caused him to go from being nearly seven feet tall to just over four feet in height.
While Judd initially experienced difficulty adjusting to his new stature, he ultimately found that his enhanced strength and agility, combined with his diminutive size, made him an even more effective combatant.  Judd would go on to spend some time serving as a member of the paranormal adventurers group known as The Outcasts.  Later, Judd got involved in a bar fight that resulted in his being incarcerated on charges of manslaughter.
After spending some time in prison, Judd was released into the custody of James Hudson and agreed to become a recruit for Department H in exchange for having his criminal record expunged.  Department H was a Canadian program designed to cultivate superhero teams that would operate in conjunction with governmental agendas.  Judd chose the alias ‘Puck’ and was assigned to the squad Beta Flight.  His performance was excellent and he soon matriculated to Alpha Flight, Department H’s premier team.
Puck would go on to have numerous adventures alongside Alpha Flight.  Along with serving with the team, Puck additionally acted as a combat instructor for newer recruits among the Gamma and Beta Flight squads.  During this time Puck engaged in a romantic affair with the heroine Talisman.
Later, Puck would leave the program to join the X-Men Storm and Psylocke in forming a new iteration of X-Force.  After serving with this team for a short while, Puck returned to Alpha Flight whereupon he was recruited by Captain Marvel to be a part of task force to track down The Hulk.
The hero first appeared in the pages of Alpha Flight #1 (1983).

In Toronto, we get the introduction of Eugene Milton Judd, who is also known as Puck, the first superhero with dwarfism! It’s a great introduction to the character, and credit to Canadian expatriate John Byrne for having the waitress say, “Take off, eh?” #marvel #alphaflight https://instagr.am/p/CBE6EGCBZ_r/

Alpha Flight was originally merely a part of the backstory of the X-Men’s Wolverine but, in 1983, Marvel launched an eponymous series featuring the group, which continued until 1994, lasting 130 issues as well as annuals and miniseries. Though reluctant to take the job, John Byrne wrote and drew the series for 28 issues before handing it off to another creative team. During that time, the series storylines generally dealt with the personal problems of one or two characters at a time, seldom bringing all the members together or confronting problems outside the team itself. Most team members have distinctly Canadian attributes, such as having Inuit or First Nations heritage. Throughout most of its history, the team has worked for Department H, a branch of Canada’s Department of National Defence that deals with super-powered villains. Their self-titled series began with Alpha Flight #1 (May 17, 1983).

Marrina is a member of the alien species the Plodex, which sends its eggs to various planets. When the eggs hatch, young Plodex take the forms of the native species they encounter. As an egg, Marrina landed in the Atlantic Ocean about 40,000 years ago, at the turn between the Middle Paleolithic and the Upper Paleolithic and remained dormant for thousands of years. This incubation place was responsible for her adaptations to aquatic environments. The egg was found by fisherman Tom Smallwood as he was drowning during a storm. It proved buoyant enough to bring him to the surface and thus save his life. Tom took it home to Newfoundland, Canada. The egg was opened prematurely by his wife Gladys Smallwood, causing Marrina to imprint a humanoid female form. The Smallwoods accepted her as their daughter. She leaves home at sixteen years of age to join Beta Flight, a team of superheroes trained and funded by the Canadian government. After performing well in Beta Flight, Marrina is promoted to Alpha Flight, although her field duties only begin after the team went freelance. Thanks to her genetic structure that is a hybrid combination of Plodex and Earth DNA, Marrina's body is totally amphibious, and she has pale yellow skin, large fish-like eyes, and webbed hands and feet. Possessing both lungs and gills, she can breathe and exist indefinitely on land or under the sea. She debuted in Alpha Flight #1 (May 17, 1983).

Eugene Milton Judd was born in 1914 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He spent years traveling the world as a soldier of fortune, working as an intelligence agent and bouncer, before becoming a professional adventurer and joining Alpha Flight. Originally, Puck had no superhuman powers, relying on his exceptional training. He was a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, capable of a mixture of various martial arts, street-fighting techniques, acrobatics and gymnastics. After a run-in with The Master of the World his body was subject to genetic manipulation of his cellular structure. His body tissues were condensed at a molecular level, causing his body to become akin to compressed rubber. His trademark attack is a cartwheeling motion. Spinning on his hands and feet at great speeds, he is able to slam into and knock down human-sized enemies with ease. He is also skilled in bullfighting. He first appeared in Alpha Flight #1 (May 17, 1983).

BIOGRAPHY
The daughter of an unnamed Asian woman and Eugene Milton Judd, the diminutive Canadian soldier-of-fortune turned super hero known as "Puck," Zuzha Yu demonstrated superhuman abilities extremely early in her life -- first speaking while still in her mother's womb. For reasons yet to be revealed, Judd was forced to abandon Zuzha when she was still a baby. Never learning the identity of her father, whom she never forgave for leaving her, Zuzha was raised in Canada and attended McGill University in downtown Montreal, Quebec.
Eventually expelled from college, Zuzha was forced to fend for herself and ultimately opened a tavern in the shadow of McGill University. Doubling as both bartender and bouncer, Zuzha would often use her skills to break up bar fights between college students and her local patrons. It was after one of these barroom brawls that Zuzha was approached by Dr. Walter Langowksi, the Canadian hero known as Sasquatch, and offered membership in a new incarnation of Alpha Flight. Although Zuzha initially refused the offer, she was compelled to join the fledgling team after losing a bet to Langkowski. In exchange for her cooperation, Langkowski promised to tell Zuzha his theories as to how she received her superhuman powers.
Code-named "Puck" and outfitted with a uniform constructed out of unstable molecules that adjust themselves where necessary, Zuzha was assembled alongside Sasquatch and four other Canadian heroes: Centennial (Rutherford Princeton, III), Major Mapleleaf (Louis Sadler, Jr.), Yukon Jack (Yukotujakzurjimozoata), and the enigmatic anarchist known only as "Nemesis." The mission of the new team was to rescue the original members of Alpha Flight, who had been captured by the Plodex, a race of aliens intent on conquering the universe. When the original members of Alpha Flight were finally freed from the subterranean Plodex hatchery, they decided to temporarily relocate to the restored Plodex homeworld in an attempt to raise the next generation of Plodex. Zuzha and her fellow recruits agreed to remain together as a team and keep Canada safe in the original Alpha Flight's absence.
