The Dark Horse (Tobin Heath x Reader)
You were The Dark Horse, a fierce and hard soccer player that the USWNT knew nearly nothing about, considering you wouldn’t let them get close. What do you do when your grumpy demeanor and glares don’t get to the hard chilling Tobin Heath, who knocks down the walls you’d built around yourself? The woman worming her way into your life like you never possibly imagined.
You exhale loudly, eyes rolling as you glance at the woman who’d just sat down beside you on the bench.
Tobin turns to you with a smirk, rolling her eyes when she sees your glare.
“You know that doesn’t work on me.” She grins and you sigh.
“Doesn’t hurt to try.” You mumble and Tobin smirks.
Your other teammates make their way to the bench, but when they see you they do their best to avoid you, which in all honesty, you liked it that way.
But of course, the woman beside you was far from deterred by your glares, remaining completely unaffected.
You were the dark horse of the team, immediately going pro before even going to college. Whatever field you were on, whatever condition, you tore up each and every field you stepped onto, making it your own.
You were the player everyone had their eye on, but knew little about and you wanted to keep it that way.
You jump when someone’s arm slips around your shoulders and you turn towards the offender, Ashlyn Harris with surprise.
“Ummmm?” You cock your head to the side and Ashlyn just grins, shrugging.
“What?” She asks and you lift her arm, picking it up off of you and placing it between the two of you.
Ashlyn does nothing, but give you a toothy grin before throwing her arm back around you.
You let out a growl, rolling your eyes as you glance down the bench at Ali who is looking at the two of you with a smile.
“She doesn’t realize you hate everyone.” She mouths and you can’t fight the smile off that spreads across your face.
You spot Tobin smiling out of the corner of your eye and you turn away, shaking your head and rolling your eyes.
***
The ball was at your feet as you sprinted down field, the game against England was a rough one, the score tied 1-1 as you move in on goal.
Everyone, unfortunately within range is being covered, leaving you to take the shot on goal. As you weaved in closer, and closer you saw your shot, and you took it.
Your teammates watch with wide eyes as you twist your body, pulling your leg back and slamming your foot into the ball, sending the ball zooming across the field.
The ball hits the goalie’s stomach with a thud, the woman flying back into goal, the ball rolling out of her grasp when she falls.
The fans cheer excitedly as your teammates rush towards you.
You smile when everyone surrounds you, throwing their arms around you, some ruffling your hair or patting your back.
You let out a grunt when someone jumps on your back, but it only takes you a mere second to realize who it is.
“Sick goal!” Tobin grins as she gives you a squeeze and you shake your head with a grin.
“Thanks, Tob.”
Your goal had been the last of the game, the score 2-1 as the team headed back into the locker room.
Again, you were the talking point of many a conversation, as per usual.
***
You’d just sunk a goal in the back of the net against Alyssa, strutting away confidently as you lift your shirt using it to wipe the sweat off your brow, unaware that you currently have an audience.
“I’m terrified and turned on at the same time by her.” Kelley whispers, earning a smack on the back of the head from Alex.
“Agreed.” Emily whispers under her breath, she too earning a smack from Lindsey.
Just then you glance over your shoulder sending everyone scrambling.
Your brows furrow and you roll your eyes.
“How did you do that?” You glance around, brow arched when you see Mallory Pugh standing before you.
You give her a small half smile.
“You just have to kick the ball at the precise angle and with the correct part of your foot, it’s about making a split second decision and knowing where the ball will go, how it will move and at what angle it needs to be kicked for it to go where you want.”
“You do that, all in a split second?” Tierna asks eyes wide and you nod.
“You need to determine what to do as the ball makes its way towards you.”
Across the field, Tobin and Christen watch as you fiddle around with the ball before slamming it downfield and into goal with just the side of your foot.
“Do you think she’s wearing steel toed cleats?” Christen whispers and Tobin grins, brown orbs never leaving you.
“Hello?” Christen waves her hand in front of Tobin’s face. “You in there?”
Tobin clears her throat, cheeks flushing red.
“Yeah, sorry.”
Christen hums, smirking as her green orbs dart between the two of you.
“Oh my god, you have a crush on her!” She gives Tobin a shove and her eyes narrow.
“I do not.”
Christen scoffs.
“Yeah, yeah you do.”
Alyssa had completely gotten out of the way when you started firing power shots, unwilling to lose a limb to the cannonballs you were shooting at goal.
You pull your leg back, again firing on goal, though this time it slaps into the side of the goal post, in goal of course, the goal post rattling loudly.
Everyone turns towards you, eyes wide.
You simply shrug and move off field, leaving your teammates behind to stare at you in wide eyed astonishment.
“Yep. Definitely turned on and DEFINITELY terrified.” Kelley mumbles, Emily nodding in agreement.
Instead of slapping them this time, Alex and Lindsey are inclined to agree.
***
You let out a loud and lengthy sigh when Tobin plops down in the seat beside you on the bus, the forward turning to you with a grin.
You simply roll your eyes and look away.
“I can’t get rid of you, can I?” You ask, turning to Tobin with a glare and the woman simply grins, eyes crinkling at the corners.
“Nope.”
You let out a growl, but can’t fight the smile that plays on your lips as you glance at the forward.
You can’t take your eyes off of her, your Y/E/C orbs eyeing her profile intently, the curve of her jaw and the fullness of her lips. When brown orbs lock with yours you glance away, clearing your throat.
Your cheeks are bright red and unbeknownst to you, Tobin’s are red as well, the two of you staring forward wide eyed.
“Is she blushing?” Kelley whispers from across the bus to Alex who’s sitting beside her and the forward nods.
“Yeah, she is.”
You clear your throat, cracking your neck and taking a deep breath to reign in your emotions until the flush on your cheeks disappears.
Tobin’s cheeks stay flushed as she glances at you, smiling softly before popping an air pod in her ear and holding the other out to you.
You eye it intently for a minute, eyes narrowed as they dart from the air pod to Tobin’s brown orbs and back, after a few seconds of contemplating, you take it from her and the woman grins when you slip it into your ear.
Christen shakes her head with a grin from where she’s sitting, her grin only widening when she sees the massive grin on Tobin’s face.
***
You were pissed, more than pissed.
Again and again Allysha Chapman had taken Julie off her feet and again and again she was never called for her fouls.
Julie landed an amazing, clean tackle that sent the ball off of Chapman and out of bounds, the tackle couldn’t have been more perfect, but it had set the Canadian player off, Chapman charging at the woman.
Gameplay of course had stopped your teammates, and Chapman’s teammates rushing over to get to the two fighting players.
You were less than a foot away when Chapman gave the woman a shove, that would’ve sent the woman off her feet if her teammates hadn’t been standing behind her.
Chapman goes at her again, but this time, you step in front of her.
You lean in close, lip curled in a snarl.
“I’m only going to say this once, so open your fucking ears.” You say calmly, voice soft but dripping with malice.
“Don’t touch her again. If you do, I’ll put you on the bench for the rest of the season.”
Chapman takes a step back hands up as she moves towards her teammates, meanwhile you simply turn and move towards your teammates, the women watching you with wide eyes.
“What did you say to her?” Kelley asks, looking at Chapman who looks visibly shaken.
You shrug.
“Nothing much.”
You put a hand on Julie’s shoulder.
“You alright?” She asks and the blonde nods.
“She won’t touch you again.” You smirk, glancing over your shoulder at Chapman whose eyes widen when she sees your eyes on her.
You turn back to Julie with a cocky grin.
“Trust me.”
As you predicted, Chapman avoided Julie for the rest of the game, even causing a goal or two until she was subbed off.
You held out your hand to Chapman with a smirk, giving her hand a rough squeeze once you got a hold of it.
“See you again soon Chapman.” You smirk, letting go of her hand before turning and walking away.
Unbeknownst to you, your teammates watched the whole exchange, eyes wide. Chapman looked like someone just dumped a bucket of cold water on her as she turned away and headed towards the locker room.
“Jesus Christ what did she say to her?” Kelley mumbles and Emily shakes her head with a chuckle.
“I don’t know, but I think Chapman’s going to need some kind of therapy after that.”

Movie night.
To be honest, you weren’t really the type for team bonding, but you nonetheless had joined your teammates plopping down beside Tobin on her hotel room’s bed.
“Well look who it is.” Tobin grins and you roll your eyes, putting your hands up and doing spirit fingers causing a number of the women in the room to laugh.
You knit your fingers together, putting your hands behind your head and leaning back against the bed’s headboard.
Paying attention to the movie was difficult considering you’d seen it a number of times, but it had become more difficult when your phone started to ring.
You pulled it out of your pocket with a growl, gaining the attention of the woman beside you who eyed you curiously as you looked at the number on the screen.
You answer the call as you make your way to the balcony’s door, slipping between them and closing it behind you.
“Hello?” You say into the receiver brow furrowing as the only thing you can hear on the other side is breathing.
“Y/N, it’s your fathe-
Before he can even finish his sentence, you hang up, briefly contemplating throwing your phone off the hotel balcony.
Your phone starts to ring again and you turn around, slamming it down on the table on the balcony before turning back around to look down at the city.
It rings and rings and rings and before you know it you’re grabbing your phone and throwing it against the balcony’s concrete surface.
You stomp on it a few times, your teammates watching with wide eyes as you throw your hands up with a snarl before turning back around to face the city.
“Did she just...?” Christen whispers nodding towards the balcony where you’re standing.
Tobin’s brown orbs are wide as she moves to her feet and heads towards the balcony door, tugging it open and stepping outside.
She leans against the railing beside you, the two of you glancing at one another for a moment before you shake your head.
“I might need a new phone.” You mumble and Tobin lets out a snort that has you laughing.
You shake your head with a small smile.
“What happened?” Tobin asks and you swallow hard, you open your mouth, immediately snapping it shut as you try to find the words you’re searching for.
Tobin places a hand on your back and your eyes widen, though her hand running up and down your back somehow helps you find the words you’re looking for.
“My dad... Somehow got my number.” You frown, turning to look at Tobin, whose brown orbs are already on you.
“We don’t have the best history...” You mumble giving your busted phone a nudge with your sock covered foot. “Needless to say.” You shrug.
Tobin surprises you by scooting closer, her hand running down your back before she slips an arm around you.
She leans against your arm and you swallow hard, your eyes closing. You take a deep breath, surprising not only her, but your teammates watching as well when you slip an arm around her.
“We should go and get you a new phone tomorrow.” Tobin mumbles and you grin, chuckling.
“Yeah, you’re probably right.”
***
Unsurprisingly, on your trek around the city, you and your teammates had been approached for pictures, though you noticed fans had gravitated more towards the other women, wordlessly asking for pictures by glancing nervously in your direction.
“I think they’re scared of me.” You whisper as you lean towards Tobin and the woman laughs, grin wide as she turns to you.
“Oh no, not at all.”
You open your mouth to speak, but suddenly snap it shut when you feel a pair of tiny arms wrap around your legs.
“Ms. Y/N! I’m your biggest fan!” You hear someone squeak and you glance down, grinning when you see a little girl, probably around 4 years old hugging your legs.
You kneel down with a grin, your fans and teammates watching as the little girl jumps in your arms.
“Where’s your mom sweetheart?” You ask and just then, a woman pushes through the crowd, taking a deep breath as she places a hand on her chest.
“Sweetie, you can’t run off like that.” She pants nervously as she moves towards, who you suspect is her daughter.
“But mommy! It’s Y/N!” She gives you a squeeze and you grin. Her mother looks up at you, eyes wide when she realizes who it is that’s holding her daughter.
“I’m so sorry, I hope she didn’t bother you.” She fidgets and you shake your head, standing, the girl still in your arms.
“It’s alright ma’am, I’m just happy to meet my biggest fan.” You grin, the little girl squeezing you with all her might.
“You want to take a picture?” You ask her and the little girl nods excitedly, turning to her mother with what can only be described as puppy dog eyes.
“Of course, you can Rebecca.” She smiles and the little girl squeals.
Your teammates and fans can’t help but snap their own photos with you and the little girl, you and Tobin taking a selfie together with the little girl still in your arms.
After the photo session is over you kneel down, placing the little girl on the ground.
“I’m so glad I got to meet my biggest fan.” You smile and she grins, throwing her arms around your neck.
“I love you Y/N.” She grins and you chuckle.
“Love you too.” You grin, kissing the little girl’s forehead.
“There’s one more thing I want to tell you.” You smile as Rebecca cocks her head to the side curiously.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” You ask and she grins.
“A soccer player!” She squeals and you laugh.
“Well, whatever you decide to be, I want you to believe in yourself, and no matter what anyone says, you just do your best. And if you make a mistake, remember that a mistake mean’s you’re trying, okay?” You nod and Rebecca grins, nodding excitedly.
“I will!”
She again jumps in your arms, giving you a tight squeeze before she and her mother disappear into the crowd of people surrounding you and your teammates.
You quickly make the background of your new phone a picture of you and your number one fan before you turn around, smiling when you see Tobin’s brown orbs already on you.
“Jealous?” You ask and the forward snorts, throwing an arm around you.
“Maybe, I mean, who wouldn’t want a sweet little girl as their number one fan?”
You hum.
“Looks like you have to fight for first place.” You tease, the brunette rolling her eyes.
“Oh, you think I’m your fan?” She asks and you shrug.
“Maybe.”
“Shut up.”
Your teammates and those around you watch as the two of you bicker, Christen’s grin being the widest.
“When do you think they’ll admit they’re into each other?” Kelley whispers to the forward who shrugs.
“They’re both oblivious, so who knows.”
***
The pictures of you and your #1 fan had went viral, but in all honesty, it was your own fault considering you had plastered them all over every social media site. What surprised you the most was the number of comments about how you and Tobin looked great together with the little girl.
“So, does that mean you’re both adopting Rebecca or...?” Sonnett teases and you roll your eyes, kicking the soccer ball at your feet towards her.
Tobin sends a narrowed eyed glare at the defender, her cheeks flushed.
“Awww come on, you guys are cute...” Kelley laughs and you roll your eyes, sending her a glare.
Unluckily for Kelley, she’s on the opposite team of your scrimmage and you make it your personal mission to steal the ball from her at every opportunity.
“COME ON!” She yells when you swipe the ball from her with a wink and a cocky smirk. The same ball you swipe from her you end up sinking into goal passed Adrianna Franch.
You plop down on the bench beside Tobin, the forward turning to you with a grin.
“Admit it.” She says and you, turn to her, brows furrowed as you take a swig of your water.
“Admit what?” You ask and Tobin smiles.
“We’re growing on you.” She beams, eyes crinkling at the corners and you roll your eyes.
“Like a cyst.” You snort. Tobin rolls her eyes, nudging you and you laugh.
You turn, eyeing Tobin intently, your eyes lock with hers and you smile, your cheeks flushing. You glance down at your cleated feet with a small bashful smile.
“Come on, let’s go ruin Kelley’s day some more.” You wink and Tobin snorts.
“You read my mind.”
***
The ball you fire in on goal has the crowd gasping, it smacking the side post and bouncing between the two posts causing them to rattle loudly.
You throw a fist in the air, grinning when Tobin jumps on your back and your teammates surround you in celebration.
That had been your third goal of the match and you were absolutely on fire.
By the time the first half ends, Sweden is trailing by 3 goals, those goals courtesy of your boot.
“Someone had their Wheaties this morning.” Sonnett ruffles your hair and you roll your eyes, pulling her in a headlock.
“Hey!” She yells as you give her a noogie. You only stop when Sonnett’s hair is literally poking every which way, most of it pull from her pony tail.
The two of you step into the locker room and Kelley lets out a snort.
“What happened to you?” She asks the blonde who turns to you, eyes narrowed.
You simply shrug before making your way to your things and dropping down onto a bench right beside Tobin.
Her arm slips around your shoulders and you grin.
You were on top of the world and nothing could change that.
***
It was after the game when the world came crashing down around you.
You’d scored another 2 goals and were again, the central point of conversation. After a short interview with a very enthusiastic reporter, you made your way towards the locker room.
You’re only a few feet away when you hear it, the voice you’d heard over the receiver months ago, a voice you never wanted to hear again.
“Y/N.” You hear his deep voice and you swallow hard, your body stiffening.
You don’t' dare turn around, knowing that when you do, every bad memory you’d had with the man standing behind you would resurface, but at the same time, you knew you had to.
You turn, your eyes locking with a familiar pair of Y/E/C orbs, the same color eyes as your own.
“You need to leave.” You frown, stepping abruptly back when he takes a step towards you.
“Get away from me.” You snarl angrily and your father sighs.
“I came to apologize.” He says and you shake your head.
“You think you can apologize for what you did...?” You mumble, shaking your head. You feel tears in your eyes, but you hold them off, not giving him the satisfaction of seeing you cry.
“Listen I know back then I was...” You shake your head, cutting him off.
“An abusive, alcoholic piece of shit?” You scoff and your father swallows, staring down at the floor between you.
“Y/N...” You shake your head.
“I don’t want anything to do with you. Go. Don’t contact me again.” You snarl, marching passed him, down the hall and out of sight.
***
Meanwhile, inside the locker room, Tobin glances around brows furrowed.
“Where’s Y/N?” She asks and everyone stops, they too glancing around the room in search of the woman.
“She was doing an interview, but after that...” Tobin frowns as she moves out of the locker room, glancing around.
She spots a man in the distance and races down the hall, bypassing him in favor of finding Y/N. Though when she glances his way, her eyes locking with a familiar pair of Y/E/C orbs, a pair of eyes she’s gotten lost in before.
She keeps racing down the hallway, glancing around in search of you, but it’s to no avail.
Tobin shuffles back to the locker room, her search for you turning up absolutely nothing, nothing except for a man with a pair of Y/E/C orbs. And she could easy guess who that man was.
***
You’d ran until you could run no longer, putting as much distance between your father and you as possible.
You’d left your belongings in the locker room, but you couldn’t careless, you just needed to get away.
You run your hands down your face as you slowly make your way down the sidewalk, head down as to avoid any and all eye contact.
It’s well after dark when you finally make your way back to the hotel, completely drenched from the rain that started falling nearly an hour ago.
You step into the hotel and almost instantly someone slams into you.
You inhale sharply, eyes widen but it only takes you a few seconds to realize whose arms are wrapped around you.
You duck your head, burying your nose in Tobin’s hair.
“I was so worried.” She whispers and you swallow hard, tilting your head so your cheek rests on the top of the woman’s head.
“I’m sorry I scared you, I just... Needed to get away.” You whisper and Tobin nods. The two of you remain in your embrace, the feel of Tobin in your arms making your heart race.
“Come on.” Tobin whispers, taking a reluctant step back.
“Let’s get you changed; you’re freezing.”
***
Later, much later you’re spread out in bed, Tobin lying beside you.
The silence between the two of you is somehow heavy, but comforting as well.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Tobin asks and you open your mouth, ready to shoot down that conversation entirely, but when you glance at the woman her brown orbs full of worry you swallow hard.
“My mom died when I was 8...” You whisper and Tobin’s eyes widen.
“I’m sorry...” She whispers and you swallow hard.
“She was sick, and when we found out it was too late, there was nothing they could do.” You swallow hard.
It’s then you realize that Tobin had shuffled closer, her hand resting gently on your forearm.
You glance down at said hand, gently resting your opposite hand over her own.
You trusted her enough to seek comfort from the woman, something you hadn’t been able to do with anyone for a long time.
“I guess my dad blamed me, somehow and after she died he started to get violent.” You mumble, feeling Tobin’s hand clench into a fist.
“He started drinking and I became his punching bag.” You swallow hard and Tobin’s eyes slam shut, tears forming behind her closed eyelids.
“I left as soon as I could and I haven’t spoken to him since. He tried to get in contact with me, but I avoided it...” You take a deep breath, eyes closing.
Your eyes flash open and your cheeks flush when Tobin’s head rests gently on your shoulder, her fist unclenching before she flips her hands around and intertwines your fingers.
“I’m so sorry.” She whispers and you take a deep breath, leaning your head on top of hers.
“I learned to keep my emotions in check... More like, I just ignored them.” You shrug and Tobin nods.
“So that’s why you shut everyone out?” She asks and you nod.
“It’s hard trusting people, when someone you’re supposed to trust more than anything in the world does what my father did to me.”
Tobin nods, pulling back suddenly and you turn to her, noting the tears swimming in her brown orbs.
“Do you...” Tobin swallows hard, glancing away.
“Do you trust me?” She asks and you smile, gently cupping her cheek and turning her face until your eyes lock.
“I do.”
***
You wake the following morning, smiling when you realize Tobin’s arms are wrapped around you.
The two of you had talked well into the night until eventually the two of you fell asleep.
You shuffle forwards, leaning your forehead against the sleeping woman’s in front of you.
You never thought you could find someone who you’d be able to open up to until Tobin Heath came along and by the way your heart reacted when the woman was around, you knew you were falling for her.
You smile, at the way Tobin’s face scrunches up in her sleep, the woman mumbling as she shuffles closer, so close in fact that your lips brush against her forehead.
You smile against her skin, gently pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“What was that for...?” You hear a raspy whisper and you inhale sharply, eyes wide.
You pull back, but you don’t get to go far because Tobin gently cups your cheek, pad of her thumb dragging gently across your smooth skin.
You shrug, cheeks flushing as you lean into Tobin’s touch.
Your eyes lock with her brown orbs and you swallow hard, eyes darting to her lips before snapping back up to lock with her brown orbs.
Tobin’s eyes flick between your lips and your Y/E/C orbs, her tongue swiping against her dry lips. Without even realizing, the two of you are leaning in, though when your noses brush you both freeze, eyes locked.
It’s then, looking deep into her brown orbs that you see something you haven’t seen since you looked into your mother’s eyes when you were young, love. A different kind of love of course, but the sparkle of love behind her eyes is what has you closing the gap between the two of you.
Tobin smiles into the kiss, her nails scratching gently against your neck as the two of you kiss. You tilt your head, ready to change the angle of the kiss, but before you can you hear a loud knock on your hotel room’s door.
You and Tobin apart, eyes wide as you stare into one another's eyes.
Tobin frowns, when she sees a familiar spark behind your eyes, something she worked so hard to make her way passed, something she never wanted to see in your eyes again, at least when you were looking at her.
“I-I b-b-better get that.” You stammer as you jump to your feet and move to the door.
Tobin lets out a deep breath, her heart racing.
The last thing she wanted to do was change things between the two of you, or at least to backtrack on the progress the two of you had made.
But with one kiss that is exactly what had happened.
***
Tobin’s fears had come true, and you’d quickly put distance between the two of you, leaving shortly after Christen had come into the room.
Thankfully, for you and Tobin it was the team’s day off, though unluckily, it meant bonding with the rest of the team, so avoiding them wouldn’t at all be possible.
You did avoid Tobin though, reverting to your old ways, keeping distance between not only you and the forward, but the other players as well, so much so that Sonnett and Kelley hadn’t teased you the entire day, knowing something was off.
By the time you get to dinner, your heart is aching, almost as if you’d lost a part of it.
Tobin settles in the seat beside you and you swallow hard, keeping your head down.
As your teammates chat happily around you, you finally gain the courage you need to make a move.
Gently, you place your hand on top of Tobin’s thigh, giving it a squeeze.
The forward jumps before turning to you, her brown orbs wide as they lock with your Y/E/C orbs. One look into your eyes and she sees that sparkle yet again creeping in, the sparkle that blocked out the spark of apprehension she had seen the first time the two of you had met.
Tobin gives you the softest of smiles, placing her hand on your own before giving it a gentle squeeze. The simple gesture surprisingly brings tears to your eyes.
The woman you’d felt love for, and you hoped had loved in return hadn’t given up on you and that made the ache in your heart completely vanish.
You had hope.
And hope wasn’t something you were used to having.
***
Tobin’s hand hadn’t left yours for the entire dinner and you were so grateful for that and by the time you’d gotten back to the hotel, her fingers kept purposely brushing against your own.
You open your hotel room door, Tobin slipping inside, you following close behind. You kick the door shut behind you, swallowing hard when you see Tobin’s brown orbs already on you.
You slowly make your way towards her, biting your bottom lip as you stare down at the floor.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper, your eyes closing.
“It’s al-
You shake your head, taking a step towards her and cupping her cheeks.
“You deserve an explanation.” You whisper and Tobin nods, knowing you need to get how you’re feeling off your chest.
“I’m not used to seeing what I see when I look into your eyes and I got scared.” You whisper and her brown orbs widen immensely.
Tobin’s breath hitches as your thumb runs along her bottom lip.
“What do you see?” Tobin whispers and you swallow hard.
You lean forwards, your forehead resting gently against hers, noses brushing.
“What do you see when you look into mine?” You whisper and Tobin grins, the grin that makes the corner of her eyes crinkle.
“Love.” She whispers softly and you grin, biting your bottom lip as a tear streaks down your cheek.
You sniff softly, leaning in, your lips once again meeting Tobin’s.
Tobin smiles into the kiss her lips moving gently against your own. You cup her cheeks, titling your head to the side, changing the angle of the kiss like you had that morning, though this time, no one was there to stop you from kissing the woman.
You surprise Tobin by guiding her backwards until the small of her back presses against the small table in your room, your lips still connected.
They don’t even disconnect when you lift her and place her on the table, making the two of you the same height as you kiss.
You reluctantly pull back, your forehead resting against Tobin’s as you playfully rub your nose back and forth against her’s.
Tobin giggles and you grin, chuckling as you press a kiss to the tip of her nose.
The forward slips her arms around your neck, her fingers tangling in the baby hairs at the base of your neck. You let out a hum, smiling lazily as your eyes flutter shut.
You lean back in, pressing another sweet kiss to her lips, then another, and another. When your eyes flutter open Tobin is happy to see the sparkle in them that she knows is reflected in her own.
No longer the sparkle of apprehension, but the sparkle that warms her heart whenever she sees it in your eyes, the sparkle that tells her, you love her, and the sparkle that tells you she loves you in return.
“I’m in love with you.” You mumble, so soft Tobin has to strain her ears to hear it. She grins, tears in her eyes as she pulls you in for a firm and passionate kiss.
The two of you part, neither going far, your lips brushing as Tobin speaks.
“I’m in love with you too.”
***
"Are they...” Sonnett mumbles, nodding to where you and Tobin are sitting on the bench, your fingers playing with hers.
“That’s some gay shit right there.” Kelley mumbles and Christen shrugs.
“I’m glad they aren’t completely avoiding each other anymore.”
They watch the pair closely and when you lean in, pressing a kiss to Tobin’s forehead, Kelley lets out a literal screech.
“OH MY GOD YOU’RE TOGETHER AREN’T YOU?!” She screams, everyone turning towards her then to you and Tobin with wide eyes.
You glance at Tobin sending her a stealthy wink before you fire the ball across field at Kelley who literally dives out of the way, landing face first on the turf.
“HEY!” She yells into the turf and you snort, snickering as the shorter woman sends you a glare.
You glance at Tobin, grinning when you see her eyes already crinkled at the corner’s as she watches you laugh with a grin.
“Please don’t kill Kelley, we need her.”
“Ehh, no promises.”
***
The fans scream as you sink another goal into the back of the net, past the fingertips of Ireland’s goalkeeper.
You’re immediately swarmed by your teammates, Tobin leaping into your arms, her legs slipping around your middle, arms wrapping around your neck.
You spin her around with a massive grin, your other teammates jumping on your back and patting your head in celebration.
The whistle blows, signaling the end of the game, though Tobin remains in your arms, her brown orbs locked on your Y/E/C ones.
Your eyes drop to her lips, and in that moment, you want nothing more than to kiss her in front of your teammates, the fans and the entire world.
Tobin frowns when she sees the spark of apprehension in your eyes and instead of going in for a kiss, like the both of you wanted, she instead tilts her head back and presses a kiss to your forehead.
Tobin pulls back and you smile, giving her a tight squeeze.
You knew the two of you needed to talk, needed to talk about what the two of you were and what you wanted your teammates, and the world to know.

“I think we should talk...” Tobin whispers and your eyes widen, your chest aching. Every bad thought that could possibly cross your mind, crosses it, that is until Tobin slips her arms around you from behind.
“It’s okay.” She whispers, pressing a kiss to the back of your neck and you sigh, your eyes fluttering shut.
“I know your head is probably going a million miles an hour right now, but it’s okay. I’m not going anywhere.”
You take a deep breath, leaning heavily back into her.
“Okay...” You whisper, you and Tobin crawling into the hotel room’s bed, the forward settling down on your chest as she nuzzles into your neck.
The room is silent, but a comfortable silence though you can’t help but feel a little wary about what Tobin may want to talk about.
Tobin presses a kiss to your neck and you smile, ducking your head to press a kiss to the top of her head.
“What do you want us to be?” Tobin finally breaks the silence with a whisper and your eyes widen.
“Well...” You swallow hard, feeling the woman on top of you tense.
You glance down, smiling softly when your eyes lock with Tobin’s soft brown orbs.
“I want us to be...” You close your eyes tight, taking a deep breath.
“I want to be with you, but if that isn’t what you want I understa-
You’re cut off when Tobin pushes herself up onto her palms before leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to your lips.
You roll the two of you over, your lips never disconnecting as you switch positions Tobin now beneath you, her head resting on the hotel’s pillow.
“Does that mean you want to be my girlfriend?” You whisper and she grins.
“I’ve never wanted anything more.”

“YES!” You throw a fist in the air when Tobin’s attempt on goal hits the back of the net, the brunette immediately rushing to you on field and jumping in your arms.
You beam, turning to kiss the side of her head as your teammates swarm the forward. You, reluctantly, place her on the ground so she can celebrate with your teammates.
You grab her hand, giving it a squeeze before the two of you dart back to your positions, ready for the game to commence.
You glance at Tobin, smiling when you see her brown orbs already on her. Your smile splits into a grin, sending her a wink before you turn back to the action, feet itching to get the ball.
Luckily for you, minutes before the first half ends, the ball makes it to your feet and you grin, noting the way the Ireland players tense up when they realize who has control of the ball.
You snicker, grinning and the women take a step back much to their bench’s and their coach’s dismay. With that open space, you easily make your move, darting passed the fearful players and running in on goal.
You fire the ball down field, towards the fastest woman on the field, Christen Press. She’s off like a shot, leaping into the air, the ball ricocheting off of her head and flying straight into goal.
You punch the air, grinning as you run towards Christen, who, of course, gets to you first. She throws her arms around you and you give her a tight squeeze.
Suddenly, someone leaps onto your back and you grin when you realize it’s Kelley.
“We wouldn’t have got that goal if you hadn’t literally scared the shit out of all of them.” She laughs and you snort, reaching for and ruffling her hair.
“Well, I’ll just have to scare them more in the next half.”
And you did just that, tearing up the field and terrifying the Ireland players up until the final whistle.
All in all, you scored 3 goals against Ireland, and assisted on 2 others.
The second the final whistle blew you ran right towards the woman who’d pushed down the walls you’d built around yourself and made her way straight into your heart.
Tobin jumps up into your arms, legs wrapping around your middle and arms slipping around your neck.
By the glimmer in her brown orbs, you know this was the moment, and unbeknownst to you, you had that same glimmer in your eyes.
So, when she leaned forward, you did too, meeting her half way as you closed the gap between the two of you.
You hear the fans, and your teammates cheering as the two of you kiss, parting seconds later before leaning in for another kiss.
“FINALLY.” You hear s cacophony of voices shout and you laugh, closing your eyes and leaning your forehead against Tobin’s.
You bump your nose against hers and she grins, the grin that meets her eyes and you couldn’t be any happier.
Because looking into her brown eyes, you saw and felt nothing but love, all because she was impervious to your snark and attitude, she’d seen a side of you no one else ever had before and you wanted her to be the only person who ever saw that side of you.
But you knew that was impossible, because when your teammates all make a beeline towards you, practically tackling the two of you, you know there’s no way you can keep any of them out and in all honesty, you didn’t want to.
In the mosh of women you finally find Tobin, pulling her back in for another kiss.
“I love you.” You whisper against her lips and she grins, her brown orbs shining.
“I love you too.”
You didn’t know what the future gas in store for you, but as long as Tobin was by your side, you’d be okay, even if she did bring over 20 crazy ladies along with her.
