🌸 ███   OVERCOME ! COMPLETELY AT THE MERCY of emotions unlike her--- wailing as she finds comfort in irida’s arms, sobbing & heaving through weak breaths. she had done her best to pretend that her exile did not effect her, that she could handle the villages worries. their fears. that she understood. that she held no hurt from what they had done to her; they were doing what they felt was right.
but it was all a lie. it crushed her. that was her home, her friends. it was all she knew. perhaps it was foolish of her to rely so heavily on the village & the galaxy team when she could not recall anything from before she washed ashore prelude beach. to hold a part of herself outside of it all when she would enviably have to leave. yet here she was none the wiser only wishing for things in hindsight. tossed aside & barred entry. not even akari & rei were allowed to speak to her if they saw her in the wilds.
however the leaders of the diamond & pearl clans had been different. they didn’t turn her away--- finding her shelter, food. supplying her with what they could spare even as it was hidden away in private. the risk of what the commander kamado would do in his crazed state was too high. she understood that. that, she could find no fault in for the two leaders.
adaman had been gone for hours now. shea barely moving from the campfire from the night before. not ready to move yet. too somber. trying her best not to let it all out. such failed her the moment irida approached her, those words ringing in shea’s ears like a bell clearing her mind. it was if something had snapped within in her. the dam breaks; the tears hot & wet falling down her cheeks without any resistance. so as she was now, arms wrapped around the other face buried in the pearl clan’s leader’s shoulder. " i-i’m just so !" words leave through sobs & hiccups, " --wh-what do i even try to do ??"

Late Night Talks
Tumblr media
Teylan x Sarentu Reader
Ratings: SFW, a little fluff, a little angst
Word Count: 800
Spoilers for the beginning of the cloudy forest story arc!!!
Kczz…kz…”Hello…” Kcz
The soft static buzz of the walky-talky resting at your side interrupted by a timid voice whispering meekly into the night rouses you from your sleep. While the rest of the resistance gathers around the fire to enjoy a meal and a moment of rest in light of the first — albeit small and mediocre — victory since being flushed from the Kinglor Forest, you retreat to the living quarters. After another long day of close calls with increasingly agressive beasts both feral and RDA alike you chose to revel in the warm lights, tapestries and bean bags among the barrack-like bunk beds. Just as you had barely drifted to sleep to the sounds of distant laughter and soft conversations your walks-talky buzzes to life.
It takes you a moment in your stupor to orient yourself, picking up the comms device much like you used to a phone in you TAP days,
”Hello?” You exhale, rubbing your face.
kczvvv…” I miss you…”
You jump to sit upright, becoming unsteady and light headed in the process. You would know that voice anywhere. You heard those same three words on long stretches of being with the Zeswa or deep in the Kinglor Forest, far from the Dyer’s Bowl and resistance headquarters.
“Teylan!” You wince realizing how loud you were. These days his name was a grimaced at, a slur almost. Blinded by his loneliness and naivety, his actions were responsible for the death of many friends and loved ones. You haven't heard from him since that first day when you escaped the helicarrier, no matter how often you chatted into the void of the walkie talkie static on long nights spent trekking among the trees. After so long you had begun to fear if he had done something stupid, permanent,
”Teylan, are you okay? Where are y-“
”I don’t want you to come for me, I’m okay for the night… I just… I need to hear your voice.” He sighs shakily. He berates himself with shame for even entertaining the idea of contacting you after what he’s done let alone going through with it, you can hear it in the hesitation between each fragmented sentence. It takes every fiber in your being to not insist you should bring your boy home,
”Okay, only if you promise you’re alright.” You bite your lip, leaning to get a better view of the hallway through the shelves acting as dividers for the sleeping quarters.
”I miss you too, Teylan. I worry about you a lo-“
” I never should have done it!” He explodes, feedback from the walkie-talkie piercing through your skull,
”I wanted us to be together again and was blinded by my own stupid-Stupid!” He sniffles, taking a few shallow breaths,
”And now… We were further apart than ever… People died because of me. My friends died. Hajir and Daniella. I miss them.”  You hear him take a strained sob,
”An- And I’ll never get to see you again…” He whispers, breaking your heart. You can’t imagine him alone in some computer terminal, cold and lonely upon his own exile. He should be here, with you, warm tucked under your arm. Or at the very least celebrating with the rest of your friends, filling his belly with good food the Kama’tire and Zeswa bring from their homes,
”Breath, Baby. Take a deep breath.” Teylan heaves a few shallow, painful sounding, breathes before taking a shaky sigh,
”You know that’s not true, Teylan, You can have your space but I won’t let you stay away forever.” You murmur, looking towards your pouch containing the paper RDA map you recovered from an abandoned base; laden with marks for searched locations and clues of Teylan’s whereabouts,
”I can’t lie to you, honey, you fucked up big time.” You wince hearing him whimper into another set of sobs,
”But you aren’t the only one. Nor, Priya, and shit. Alma fucked up the worst… I can’t bring myself to burden you with this right now but at this point I just want to move forward.” A moment of heavy silence hovers, dampening the joyous chatter of your friends and teammates across the hideout, leaving you alone with the memories of your clan's demise and standing on the grave of your mentor. You can’t help but wonder if Teylan feels the same weight in whatever far off crevice he’s concealed himself in,
“I just want the RDA gone, Teylan. I want you home…”
It’s another few moments of silence. Followed by many more. It sounds like this conversation is over. You settle back down into the blankets and beanbags covering the cold metal floor. With a sigh, your resolve is set,
”Goodnight, Teylan. I miss you too.”
It doesn’t matter where he’s hidden himself away. You have decided you would take to the skies. No matter how many days, weeks, months it would take— You would bring your boy home. Whether he likes it or not,
”I love you, baby.”
And those four words were all he needed to hear.

RWBY Winter Tales
Witch of the Shadows
Blake walked along the path with her familiar, a shadow cat named Fergus. In the City of Vale, there were rumours of a Demon Knight that would appear during the blizzard and slay any unsuspecting travellers. She couldn't stand monsters like that and she agreed to hunt it down in exchange for a weekend at the Library of Forbidden Tomes. There was a treasure kept inside that was far more valubale than any gold in Remnant. Blake shivered violently as she stumbled in the snow.
Fergus; Are you sure you can handle yourself in this weather, my lady?
Blake: O-Of c-c-course. I-I-I'm perfectly f-f-fine.
For several more minutes, the two of them kept trudging along and all the while, the snow became thicker. Blake started to feel her feet soak with each step and it was making her uncomfortable. Unfortunately, she didn't know any fire spells to warm herself up. Fergus shook his head, disappointed in his mistress' lack of forsight.
Fergus: Tsk tsk tsk.
Blake: S-Shut up. A-Anyway, are we in the r-right area yet?
Fergus: We need to go further left. According the citizens of Vale, the Demon Knight's stronghold should be right over here. *runs*
Blake: What the- Fergus, get back here!
Blake tried to run after her familiar, but the deep snow was restricting her movement. She was struggling to keep up and the snowfall was becoming heavy, obscuring her vision. Suddenly, she tripped over what felt like a loose branch and ended up falling down a steep hill.
Blake: Agh!! Ow! *rubbing her head* Damn it! *turns around* Huh?
Blake was flabbergasted. In front of her was a small, decrepit stone house and on the windows were torn flags of a forked Imp. This couldn't possibly be the home of a demon, could it? Blake tried her best to stand up and, grabbing her wand, carefully walked inside.
It wasn't what she had expected at all. The inside of the house looked like a common living room. There was a table, a few broken chairs and a bookshelf. Sitting on a dusty bench was a young man stroking away at Fergus, who trilled delightfully. He had blonde hair, deep sapphire eyes and wore torn white tunic. His most distinguished feature, however, were his horns. He was a demon. Blake shook her head. She couldn't just attack him. Fergus didn't appear to be in any danger and he didn't look like he was a knight either.
Blake: Um, hello?
Demon boy: Huh? Oh. Hello there, witch. I didn't hear you come in. Why is it that you've come here?
Blake: Um... well, I... *lowers wand* I was sent to investigate the reports of a Demon Knight who was attacking unsuspecting travellers. I-I hate to ask, but do you know anything about it?
Demon boy: *shakes head* No, I don't. I was exiled from the Demon Knights 3 months ago.
Blake: Oh... I'm sorry.
Demon boy: It's okay. To be honest, they were a bunch of dicks anyway. By the way, is this your cait familiar?
Blake: Yeah, his name's Fergus. *snaps fingers* Return to me.
Fergus disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
Blake: Anyway, I know you're not a member of the Demon Knights anymore. But did you at least hear anything about the attacks?
Demon boy; Hmmm, if it was attacks on humans, I think I might know one in particular. His name is Cardin and he's... well, infamous is putting it lightly.
Blake: Why exactly is he infamous?
Demon boy: Put it this way, even among demons, he's quite brutal. No one escapes an encounter with him intact. He truly is a monster.
Blake: I see. *grips wand* I hate to ask, but would you help me in finding him?
Demon boy: Well, my combat skills are a little rusty. *stands up* But if you need my help, then I will gladly lend you my services.
Blake: Thank you, Mr...?
Jaune: Jaune Arc. *smiles*
Blake didn't know why, but seeing him smile made her heart flutter a little.
Jaune: Now then, *stands up* why don't you sit down and I'll get some dinner ready.
Blake: O-Oh no no no no, I couldn't possibly-
Jaune: Don't be silly, you just came in from the cold. A hot meal will do you some good. The kitchen's not perfect, but I can whip up something real nice. Do you like tuna?
Blake: YES! I mean- uh, tuna is good.
Jaune: Two tuna steaks with asparagus and mashed potatoes coming right up. *goes into the kitchen*
Blake's stomach grumbled as she heard the sound of pots, pans and the sizzling of the fish. Drool dripped from her mouth as the buttery scent touched her nose. She smiled excitedly. Maybe she had finally found the one.

DEER ONCE AGAINST SPEAKING THE TRUTH EVERYONE CHEER!! (Also I agree with the anon paired in my ask) I legit want to throttle everyone in RC because like. ok. I can kind of understand their skepticism, but still doubting her after having multiple people corroborate her story?? Just nodding along while Splashtail yaps and tears her reputation apart? NOBODY HAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MAN DOING THIS TO A 14-16 YEAR OLD??? HELLO??? WRITING TEAM?? ?!?!?
It's just. also Flabbergasting that none of the other Clans other than ShadowClan stepped up? Like yeah I'm glad ThunderClan is beginning to learn to keep to itself but now IS NOT THE TIME
Honestly I HOPE Frostpaw leaves the Clans at the end of this arc. Wishful thinking, I know, but she deserves peace and love and happiness :(
Fascinating writing going on here, RC has to get handed the idiot card because of the excuse they came up with. Like it was always going to be a challenge for the writing team to make a situation like this work...but I think a little more effort could have been put in than overhearing plans when someone was sleep talking. Just a teeeeensssyy bit of effort please.
ShadowClan being the only one who steps up continues to propel Tigerheartstar to top tier leader, most interesting guy. I hope he's the one who points out how suspicious it is that Frostpaw got exiled by Splashtail after accusing Splashtail of murder lol

Iconic Homoerotic Betrayal: Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Round 1 Directory
Context:
Anakin/Obi-Wan (Star Wars)
"The whole 3rd arc of the "Return of The Sith" movie is effectively just the painful end of the most powerful and committed relationship in all of Star Wars. Obi-Wan even told Yoda that he could not kill Anakin and he was right. He couldn't deliver the final blow to Anakin and just assumed that Anakin's severe burns would do what he could not. Even when he's gone into exile on Tatooine, he still wishes he could see Anakin again. Anakin is never not on his mind, even in the end. The ROTS novel is even more explicit about their love for one another, something that transcends brotherhood, friendship and lovers."
"They are so dependent on eachother like get a room boys. Also they have one of the most iconic fights (when Anakin falls to the darkside in the Revenge of the Sith movie) and Anakin literally takes time out of the lightsaber fight to choke Obi-Wan like hello?? Also this is a quote from an official canon Star Wars book; "Blade-to-blade, Obi-Wan and Anakin were identical. After thousands of hours lightsaber sparring, they knew each other better than brothers, more intimately than lovers; they were the complementary halves of a single warrior."
Macaque/Sun Wukong (Lego Monkei Kid)
Mac + Sun Wukong were the bestest buddies in the whole world until Sun Wukong was forced to go through a character arc road trip and made NEW friends. Mac severely misunderstood the Forceful Character Growth methods and attempts to kill Wukongs friends. So, to defend the new friends, Wukong kills Macaque in return. Now, Macaque does come back Wrong and there is some speculation on how there could be some possible trickery and manipulation regarding Mac's death, but watching LMK it is intensely homoerotic.

The following ficlet was written by @marigoldvance based on this photoset.
Fili/Kili, Teen.
You might also be able to read this story on AO3.
If you’ve enjoyed this story, please leave a comment either in replies or on AO3. :)
Heavenly Bodies
Kíli felt it before he saw it, a wave of sensation from head to toe that made his skin hum and skeleton tremble. The light arced overhead, slashed across the night sky and down. Kíli had a good idea of where it landed and wasn’t keen on returning, but he didn’t have a choice.
The air was cutting where it touched his face. Shadows stirred in the woods around him, lumped together and dripped apart ominously. It had been that way for a week or so, the shadows seeming to come apart from what cast them, creeping about of on their own. They weren’t completely mobile, but Kíli was sure it was only a matter of time.
He gave a sharp whistle before trudging the path he’d created in the snow, using trees for balance as he retraced his steps down the slope and onto the main trail. From the corner of his eye, he saw Vaithe pat atop the snow, weightless, her white fur gleaming unnaturally when it caught the moonlight.
“We’ve got a guest.” He told her, and if she could, he was sure Vaithe would roll her eyes at him for being so grumpy about it.
The woods thinned into a clearing where stood the cabin Kíli had made his at the beginning of his exile. A squat, square arrangement with a tin roof and nails that stuck out at angles that caught Kíli’s clothes here and there.
Kíli made his way along the shoveled pathway toward the porch stairs, Vaithe skipping ahead to jump into the creaky railing and then, when Kíli passed her, onto Kíli’s shoulder.
“Now don’t you go betraying me again.” He said, scratching behind her pointy ears. She answered by rubbing the flat of her head against his cheek.
They entered to a warm and cozy atmosphere, a fire burning in the hearth and the lamps lit. Kíli wasn’t surprised, going about removing his coat and replacing his boots for a pair of worn slippers after Vaithe leapt from his shoulder to the back of the couch.
She waited as long as it took Kíli to sort himself out before trotting toward the kitchen. Kíli followed. He stopped at the entrance and propped himself against the doorway, arms folded and expression as unaffected as he could make it.
Vaithe hadn’t wasted any time greeting their guest, purring, and weaving her way in and out of a pair of legs attached to a body laden in layers of heavy, celestial armour. Armour similar to that which Kíli had worn once. His eyes climbed the tapered torso to broad shoulders, up and up, to a face that was eternally, insufferably handsome. Sparkling grey eyes shone at him above a smile that weakened his knees.
Truly, Fíli had no right being so beautiful.
“The least you could do is say hello.” Kíli grumbled darkly.
Suddenly, there was a familiar weight at his back. Large hands grasped his hips and pulled him tighter against the body behind him. Lips tickled up the curve of his neck, the point of a tongue sneaking a taste in the hollow behind Kíli’s ear.
“Hello,” Fíli breathed, nipping Kíli’s earlobe.
Kíli shivered. He succumbed to the sensation of Fíli’s embrace for a moment and then, wait a minute, seemed to come to all at once.
“Oh no you. Do. Not!” He snapped, disentangling himself. “You don’t get to appear just like that—” snapped his fingers for emphasis “—and think you can get what you want.”
Fíli, lovely and golden and infuriating, smirked fondly, “You don’t want me to?”
Not the point.
Kíli glared, determined to stand his ground. “A hundred years ago, maybe. But certainly not anymore!”
“Has it been that long?” Fíli said, almost to himself.
“Yes! You left me here all alone for a century!”
Smile still firmly in place, Fíli moved forward, yanking Kíli to him by the beltloops. “Did you miss me?” He asked, dipping his head to drag the tip of his nose under Kíli’s jaw.
Kíli swallowed.
Also not the point.
“What are you doing here, Fíli?” Kíli gasped when Fíli nipped the join of Kíli’s neck and shoulder.
“I know what I’d like to be doing.” And Kíli groaned, swatting Fíli on the back of the head. Fíli amended, “A star’s been stolen.”
“Well, shit. That explains the shadows.”
Fíli cocked his head, curious.
Kíli clarified. “So far, they’ve just separated from the trees, maybe a few small rocks. But…if that star remains missing…”
“It could get worse.” Fíli finished. He heaved a sigh. “No one’s noticed apart from Legolas.”
            “And you.” Kíli said.
Fíli nodded, “And me. But if Thranduil figures it out…”
“Right.” Kíli agreed without needing specification. He backed out of Fíli’s hold and took a seat at the island, patting the seat of the second stool and giving Fíli a significant look, “Talk first, apologize later.”
“I wasn’t aware I needed to apologize.” Fíli grinned, sucking the corner of his lower lip and release it coyly. He watched Kíli track the movement with a heated stare.
“You’re damn right you do.” Kíli breathed, “But first, explain. And for heaven’s sake, man, change. You look like you’re going to war in my kitchen.”
Fíli swirled a hand, and, in a snap, the heavy suit of armour was replaced by a basic grey Henley and buttery soft jeans. Unfair how someone could make a simple getup look downright sinful.
            “Better?” He raised a brow.
Kíli pursed his lips. “It’s fine.”
Fíli sat and explained the circumstances surrounding his impromptu appearance in Kíli’s kitchen. Thranduil’s star had been stolen; Legolas had discovered it was missing and had reported it to Fíli, believing Fíli to be the best candidate to retrieve it.
“Because it’s here, isn’t it?” Kíli said, his assumption confirmed when Fíli nodded.
“And because you’re here.” Fíli added, cradling Kíli’s cheek, and stroking a thumb across the delicate skin below Kíli’s eye.
“Ah.” Kíli understood, “So, Legolas sent you to ask me to get it back for him.”
A wide grin spread across Fíli’s face, “More or less.”
Kíli wasn’t willing to make it easy for Fíli. “It really is too bad that I don’t work for the Big Guy anymore, then, isn’t it?”
“You’d be doing Legolas a favour.”
“And what’s that worth? A few years knocked off a sentence of eternity.”
Fíli considered him for a moment before he said, “Or you could come back after we—”
            “I.”
            “—you safely return the star.”
Kíli weighed his options. Even if everything went smoothly, he didn’t believe for an instant that Thranduil would welcome Kíli back to the heavens with open arms. Legolas’ inspiring endorsement or not.
He felt fingers curl a strand of his hair behind his ear and he flicked his gaze up to meet Fíli’s.
“I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner.” Fíli said, and he meant it.
“I know time hardly matters there, Fee,” He said, “But down here…I feel the seconds crawling on my skin. It’s palpable. Suffocating. About the only thing anyone here does notice.”
Fíli draws him closer by the back of the head, his lips grazing against Kíli’s as he promised, “I won’t leave you alone again.”
They pressed together in a heated kiss filled with thousands of years of sentiment. Fíli pulled Kíli into his lap, stood, and caught Kíli’s legs at the thighs, then moved them through the kitchen and to the couch.
“I don’t think you have the authority to make a promise like that.” Kíli pouted.
Fíli tossed Kíli into the cushions and stripped his shirt, gaze searing into Kíli’s, “Fucking watch me.” And then he pounced.
⚞⚟
Retrieve the star, they did, after a few hiccups—
“You didn’t tell me there was a dragon!!”
“There’s a dragon,” Fíli said, perky and proud.
Kíli glowered, “Thank you so much.”
—and several ill-executed plans. Kíli’s sweeping, black wings had been stiff after hundreds of years of dormancy and he hadn’t been able to swoop and soar as quickly as he’d once been admired for. Still, Fíli (and Legolas) hadn’t been wrong. Kíli was the most familiar with the earthly plain and how it worked, so he was better suited to navigate against its gravity. Fíli had either flown too slow or too fast, never able to quite get it right.
Once they had the star in their possession, Fíli had been excited to return to the heavenly realm with Kíli at his side, but…
“I don’t want to be beholden to Thranduil, Fee. If it hadn’t been for your intervention, he would’ve had me killed rather than exiled. I can’t…I can’t pledge my soul to him again.”
Fíli’s expression had softened into pained understanding.
So, alone, he returned the star to Thranduil.

“So much for never leaving me alone again,” Kíli said, grumpy, curled up on the couch with Vaithe on his stomach.
She didn’t respond, not that she ever had much to say when Kíli was in a mood, but it would’ve been nice to have someone sympathize.
Just as he was about to prepare another lonely supper for one (and a half, Vaithe meowed), a thunderous crash split the quiet outside. It sounded like metal bursting, to Kíli’s horror.
He ran outside in his slippers, jumping over the steps and hitting the ground in an awkward run. He skidded to a halt a few feet from the crumpled remains of his truck, his jaw slackening in disbelief.
A groan rumbled from within the carnage and then a hand appeared, followed by an arm and then a head and body. A mane of golden hair, uncharacteristically messy, swayed from side to side as Fíli stretched the feeling back into his neck.
Kíli, bug-eyed, stuttered, “What…what are you doing here?”
Fíli grinned, big and bright, and hauled himself from the wreckage. It was clear he’d plummeted from a great height, but why—why he hadn’t simply sprouted his wings and saved himself—
            “You didn’t.”
Fíli slid onto the ground, looking very satisfied for someone who had just been spat out of the heavenly realm like a wad of gum.
“Still got ‘em.” Fíli reassured Kíli of his wings, strutting into Kíli’s space and grabbing him by the hips. “But I didn’t think my first moment as an earther should include me flying about on heavenly wings, do you?”
“You’re an idiot.” Kíli said, but he was smiling.
Solemn, Fíli pressed his brow against Kíli’s, “I made a promise.”
            “Yes, you did.”
“And I intend to keep it, Kee.” Fíli dipped forward for a hard, smacking kiss, “I’m never leaving you alone again.”
Kíli grabbed the front of Fíli’s shirt, “Never?”
            “Never.” Fíli repeated.
“Well then, you’d better come with me.”
Kíli separated from Fíli and took him by the hand, leading him to the porch. “You’re going to need a job if you want to afford to buy me a new truck.”
Fíli balked, “What?”
“Which means an early morning, Fíli, none of this luxuriating in bed until noon, like you’ve done in the past.”
            “Wait…”
Kíli whipped around and winked, “Welcome to earth, angelface.”

Hello I had a cTommy thought
What if he was a reindeer. What if he has antlers for the early story, up until December, which is when male reindeer loose their antlers. Which is also when Exile Arc started

Hello! I’ve really been enjoying your chapter rereads. I’m a big fan of both Daenerys and Sansa (although unlike many Dany fans, I like her for her potential as a villain. I’ll be a fan of the character whether or not GRRM decides to follow through with her villain arc. There are things that she could do that would make me stop liking her but for now I hold the position that I like her, hero or villain).
Have you ever given much thought to potential anti-parallels between Dany and Sansa? They do share a lot of common experiences but with mostly different outcomes and I think their trajectories are clearly pretty different. I think there’s some really fertile ground for comparison.
1. Both are forced into marriages with much older men as political pawns. Both are traumatic experiences but as a result, Sansa ends up losing power whereas Dany gains it. 2. Sansa’s magical creature dies (RIP Lady) and Dany’s magical creatures are brought back from the dead. 3. Both are in a sort of exile as a result of the crimes of their fathers. Difference is that Ned didn’t actually really commit a crime and Aerys was a monster. 4. Both have a dark mentor who is also a spy, who makes unwanted advances and specifically force a kiss upon them. Both girls remind these men of another woman they loved. 5. Hair is somewhat significant. Sansa has distinctive Tully auburn, which she must dye. Dany has distinctive Valyrian silver, which is burned away. 6. Both have a dead older brother who incited great violence by having extramarital affairs (I guess Robb wasn’t married yet but I count it). 7. Both are romantics who love stories/songs and go through a sort of disillusionment. However, Sansa becomes more aware and realistic whereas Dany falls deeper into delusion. 8. Lemons. The house with the red door and the lemon tree vs lemon cakes.
Im still only like 30% through AFfC but know how it and ADwD differ from the show so idc about book spoilers. I’d really love to hear your input and if you can think of any other parallels or anti-parallels!
Hey anon, great list!
Admittedly, I suck at drawing direct parallels between characters, so I can only think of the contrasting aspects of their personalities, such as their leadership styles, their approaches to power, their notions of identity and self-perception, etc.
One thing that does stand out is how differently the author explores the themes of home and motherhood in both their POVs. A couple of people have written about it before, perhaps you'd like to read it.
Thanks for your message. :)

Hello! You talked about Romirr in regards to the post about ascending to godhood being dehumanizing.... I'm curious, can you elaborate more about how it affects him and his feelings about going through that when he realizes it (if he does at all)? 👀
Absolutely!! This'll be a lot of get comfy (✿◕‿◕✿)
So about Romirr... Ignoring his obvious issues (his unrealistic beliefs and how he treats Pandora), he was a really good king. He'd listen to his people, he kept them safe, people liked him, and he cared for them. Until someone tried to pursue the art of magics, then he would have them exiled or executed. Romirr becoming an angel seems very out of character for him, given his constant rejection of the deities and the idea of becoming one, however him later becoming Mirror is meant to show how even he fails to stand for his beliefs. When he is menaced by what he thinks is a demon (it was Galvarium), he goes into hiding and prays to the angels. When he is faced with an actual demon threatening to kill him, he shrieks to the heavens, because he doesn't know what else to do.
Upon becoming an angel, Romirr, literally and metaphorically, dies. Mirror can be argued as not even being a person, rather a shell holding Romirr's absurd belief. This is why he is so cold and emotionless, why everything he does is to prove that Romirr was right- That humans do not need angels or demons, that they have their own power and are able to reach a higher existence without being affiliated with what he sees as dehumanizing magic. He is partly right, choosing to become an angel or demon after passing does remove one's humanity to some extent, but should the individual choose, they do not need to become a holier-than-thou being, a monstrous entity, etc etc. They can continue to be themselves.
I feel like I should make it clear that Mirror does not enjoy being an angel at all. Hence why he hardly uses any of his magic despite having powerful abilities. During the Rapid Corpus arc, he is somewhat happy to be taken to Limbo. At least then he is no longer an angel.
Throughout out the story, you can see Mirror becoming less and less put together. Failure after failure, the people who initially stood by him beginning to reject him, all of it adding up and leading him to snap and attempt to kill Alice when she was a child. But that was a distraction, what he really wanted was to get his hands on Kisaki, given that he was the reason for his biggest failure. The disease, it's creation, had allowed him to gather an impressive group of loyal supporters. Whatever science he announced that they would pursue, they would follow. He was so close to starting research on what would later become the Pseudo Humans... then all of it come crashing down when Kisaki (or mostly Mad Rabbit) destroyed their facilities. Any surviving researchers where told the truth of what Mirror was attempting, which, unsurprisingly, turned them against him. Mirror's breakdown started the arc before Rapid Corpus, when Yugami finally snapped and rejected his control, when Rukka, his lover at the time, turned his back and told him to get out. Any feelings of love or sympathy he had was for sure gone, so when Kisaki ruined everything for him, he could only react with anger. He didn't know anything else.
Him taking Alice hostage in order to kill Kisaki really shows how far gone he is, how dehumanized he's become. He has no morals, but more importantly, he lost his fear.
Mirror was absolutely horrified, and I cannot emphasize that enough, by Limbo and Galvarium's existence. He'd never show it though. So his move to try and kill Kisaki himself, knowing that it would send him to Limbo, shows he broken he is. On top of that, Mirror actively uses the knowledge of Limbo to try and scare Kisaki. Obviously this doesn't work. Side note so this makes more sense, Mirror did not know that Kisaki was a partial LAE. He assumed he was a demon, given that he looked like one, and because of his blue hair, Mirror also assumed he didn't know about Limbo.
When Galvarium shows up to take Mirror to Limbo anyway, Mirror does attempt to run, however when he is caught (which was very easily), he hardly reacts. He doesn't speak, he doesn't blink, he doesn't move. He shuts down.
It's when he comes a Limbo-Altered Entity that Mirror becomes less of a character/person, and more of a concept. Until the Gates of Limbo are opened, Mirror does nothing but stay in one place. When speaking now, Mirror doesn't use "I" or "me", now it is "us", "we", but sometimes "you". The final form of Romirr Kagami is called "Truth of his World" because at that point his presence is merely a manifestation of what Romirr wanted the world to be. The world at that point in the story is, in some way, what he wanted. There where humans, albeit fake humans, who could reach deity status without the use of magics. Truth of His World isn't Romirr Kagami, it is an idea, the concept of a better world he had all those years ago.
Romirr never noticed himself losing his grip on humanity. He promised himself he would never forget who he is, he vowed to continue to care and nurture mankind. He believed what he was doing was for the benefit of humans. Obviously, he lost sight of that.
Wowee I didn't mean to write so much hahaha oops! Romirr/Mirror is meant to be the big-bad, hated character of IV, but that doesn't take away from how much I love him! Writing his character to go from someone who was actually very lovable, to something so horrid is really fun, and I am super proud of him! o(*°▽°*)o
