ROLL SOUND,

CAMERA,

ACTION!

“Hey!, Have you ever loved someone?”

“Yes!” The audience cheered.

“Have you ever lost your heart to them?”

“Yes!” They screamed again.

“So have I!” The man on stage threw his jacket up in the air towards the audience, Alex outstretched his hand, fighting the fan girls for the jacket. After pulling it back and forth with the girl beside him, he finally got it and wrapped it around himself.

Alex imagined himself up on that stage, people screaming for him and fighting for his jacket.

“CUT!, Great shot guys, lunch break!”

Alex made himself as small as possible in the jacket and tried to sneak away.

“Hey, You!” He heard someone shout after him.

“Me?” He smirked, thinking someone was finally wanting to cast him.

“Yes, you! Where do you think you are going with that jacket?”

“Well, he gave to me with love, ya know, so I wore it.”

“Huh! Give the jacket kid, could’ve damaged it, get lost. You don’t become famous wearing the jacket, you need some talent too.”

Alex stood there embarrassed, “Sir!!” He exclaimed as he walked away, it was no use though, the costume man had taken the treasured jacket and crushed his confidence in one sentence.

“Did you see that Karl!?”

“Don’t mind him, man. How can a random costume man know the worth of a future superstar?” Karl said, slipping his sunglasses onto Alex’s head.

“A superstar..” Alex trailed off, looking up while wondering.

“You really think I could become a star?” Alex said, while the friends walked around the outside of the set.

“I’m sure, Alex.” Karl mumbled reassuringly.

“My mom says that too..”

“Every small-time actors mom says that to them, that’s just how mothers are!, But you, you’ll surely become one. What don’t you have? Style, Hair, Face, Grace. You’re overflowing with talent, man!”

Alex grinned, looking away bashfully. Can he really make it in the industry?

“Except, there is just one obstacle between you and stardom..”

Alex’s eyes darted up, he jogged after Karl. “What is it?!”

“Your name.”

“ALEXIS! when are you going to pay your bill? It’s been piling up for months now!” The food stand owner shouts while they take a seat.

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll pay up soon, sir.” He said while taking a bite of his sandwich.

“In this life or the next?”

“Which lifetime does your bread belong to? This life or the one before? It’s hard as rock.” Alex remarked.

“Listen, Karl, the day I become a big star, the first thing I’m gonna do is shut down his stand!” He whispered angrily.

He turned back to the owner, “Better remember my name man, Alexi-“

Karl stopped him for speaking anymore, “Thats the thing, dude…” Karl said smacking the table with his hands. He turned Alex to face him. “Just Alex will do, but this ‘Alexis’, how will it get you to stardom?”

“You know what, you’re right Karl. Why did my Dad have to give me this name?”

Before Karl could reply, A car rushed through the gates of the park where they were filming.

“Here comes everyone’s favourite…”

“Sam Park..” They say together, mesmerised.

He steps out of his fancy car and greets everyone, fans coming up for autographs and pictures, bodyguards pushing everyone to make way. Everything Alex wants to have..

“One of the best actors..” Alex says whilst staring at him.

“See, now that’s a superstars name! Short and simple. Listen, dude, remove the end of your name, boom! Nothing stopping you now.”

“Alright! I’m ready to change my name, but you know what Mom will say..”

“NOO!!” Alex’s mom screams so loud the whole town probably heard it.

“Oh, God! What am I hearing? My Alexis wants to change his name?!, Tell me, what’s wrong with your name? It was chosen specially by your father.” She finishes her rant looking longingly at the framed picture of her husband on the wall.

He threw his arms up in the air. “I can tolerate our last name and my middle name, but Alexis? Mom, it isn’t memorable, how can I become famous like this?” Alex turned away dramatically.

His mother grabs his face and cradles it in her palms. “You’ll definitely become a superstar one day, my dear. My heart says so, a mother’s heart says so!” She emphasised.

“To hell with a mothers heart!” Alex moved away from her, as she gasped.

“I’ll never become a star in this life, with this kind of name. I’ll die as a junior artist,” He paused and pointed to the picture. “Like dad did.”

“Oh my! Alexis’ father I’m glad you aren’t alive to hear this!” She exclaimed, tracing the frame with her finger.

“Oh, gosh! You really overact, Mom. Now I know why you never become an actress.”

“What? I’m overacting? Did you know, I was called for a screen test for Titanic, Had I not been pregnant with you, then I would’ve been Rose instead of Kate Winslet. Well, she wasn’t too bad, but if I had been in the movie-“

“It would’ve flopped Mom!” Alex said while he finished tying his laces.

“The truth is Mom, you are a junior artist, Dad was a junior artist, and maybe I, too, will stay a junior artist. Goodbye!” He ran out the front door.

“Alexis, wait! I made food!.. Idiot, why does he get so upset.” She crossed her arms.

Karl waltzed over, “What’s up, ma’am? What happened?”

“Look, Karl! Your useless friend fought with me again! Didn’t even stay for food.”

“Not even food?!” Karl asked. “He must’ve gone to the bridge to meet his girlfriend..” Karl laughed.

“Girlfriend?” Alex’s Mom wondered.

“How are you, [name]? Everything’s fine? You do know why I keep coming back to you right?” Alex said. “Because you are my courage, my strength, my dream, my path and my destination. You-“ He paused. “Hey, you’re not getting bored right?..” he chuckled.

The people passing by him look at him like he’s insane, I mean why else would he be speaking to a billboard?

“You know that I’m a good actor. Mom and Karl say I’ll become a big star, but I want to become a star only for you. So that I can stand next to you and say-“ he held his hand up. “Hey, you aren’t getting bored are you?..” He smiles. “Thanks, this is your best quality you know, I keep talking but you never get bored. You keep smiling..” he looks up at the billboard, God, he wished you knew how gorgeous and talented he finds you.

“And I know you’ve got millions of fans, but remember this.. No one can love you more than I do. And yes, if you were [name] the junior artist instead of [name] the superstar, I’d still love you the same. And we’ll surely meet one day.”

“And that day isn’t far, my friend!” Karl interrupted him, startling Alex.

“Karl, Mom, when did you come?” He panicked “why didn’t you tell me!?”

“Didn’t feel it was necessary, move!” His mom pushed him out of the way. “Let me take a look and my daughter-in-law! Oh my, she like a sparkling diamond!” She said analysing the billboard.

A picture of [name] wearing the prettiest clothes and jewellery. At the bottom, ‘Starring, [name], as DREAMY GIRL!’.

“Mom, stop it.” Said an embarrassed and red Alex.

His Mom moved away from him, still salty from before.

“Oh, Mom. Please forgive me for being rude today.”

“It’s alright, My Prince! I’m sure, someday, you’ll be a star too. You’ll be on a film poster, just like this! Your mother says so!”

“Well..” Karl trails off, remembering what Alex had said when his Mom said that same thing about an hour ago.

“Shut up” Alex smacks Karl in the arm “Of course Mom.” He smiled sweetly at her.

“Here, son, tie this around your wrist, it’ll always grant you protection. And grant your wish to meet [name].” She winked at him.

“Really?” Alex said full of hope.

“Really!” His mother squished his cheeks.

“And this can happen tonight!” Karl butted in the conversation to say what he’s been bursting to this whole time.

“Tonight? What’s happening tonight?”

“Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the premiere of ‘DREAMY GIRL’!”

Hundreds of people gathered outside the theatre, around the red carpet with police trying to keep everyone settled. All the stars who were in the movie getting camera’s flashed in their face, car after car pulled up with the screams of fans getting louder and louder.

A familiar car pulled before the carpet, and the crowd knew exactly who it was.

“Sam Park!” Karl shouted over the crowd, though Alex still could barely hear him. Alex daydreamed once again about how badly he wanted to be in his place.

“Here is the king of romance, Sam Park, and his lovely wife!” The hostess exclaimed into the mic.

“OH MY GOD! HE TOUCHED ME!” Karl screamed, but Alex couldn’t care for his fanboying, because he was here for one person and one person only.

“Isn’t it a lovely evening? You look amazing Mrs Park. Well, Mr Park, when will you tell us all the good news?”

“Good news? That will happen next week. I’m sure just like last year, I will win best actor once again.” Sam chuckled.

His wife leaned into his ear, “She’s talking about the other good news.”

“What? What other good news?”

“The baby” She rolled her eyes at her egoistic husband.

“Oh yes! The baby, that too.”

“And here come the star of the night! [name], DREAMY GIRL herself!”

[name] steps out of the car elegantly, waving to the paparazzi and her fans.

Alex stares in awe, you are so much more stunning in real life.

[name] starts walking up the carpet, the crowd getting almost too much for the guards and police to handle.

Alex raises his hand to wave, and while she walks past with her dress flowing in the wind, his protection bracelet get stuck on it. He gets pulled onto the carpet and glances confused at his wrist and looks up to see [name] walking infront of him. Is he dreaming?

Everyone is cheering at him, and he stops, which pulls on her dress.

She looks back and sees Alex right behind her. She tilts her head in confusion as to why this random guy is following her on the carpet.

He realises and lifts his hand up to show that he is stuck to her dress.

[name] laughs in disbelief and grabs his wrist to untie it from her dress.

She flashes him a smile and turns around to keep walking.

Alex stands dumbfounded in the middle of the carpet, THE [name] just touched and smiled at him?

The guards grab him and pull him back to the crowd while he smiles at her back. She hears the commotion and turns back.

Alex places his hand on his chest like he’s been shot by her gaze. He smiles and goes limp in the guards grasp.

[name] laughs and turns back.

Karl grabs Alex from the guards arms and says, “Leave him! Don’t you know he’s a superstar too?” The guards move back to control the crowd. “You were awesome, dude! No one even got to greet her, but you caught her dress! Well, are you just gonna stand around or are you not gonna go inside to watch the premiere?” Karl rocks back and forth on his feet in excitement.

“Who’s gonna let us in man?” Alex sighs.

“Ta-da!” Karl whips out two tickets. “I have that sorted. Relax!”

“But these are James-“ Alex gets cut off.

“I know, I know, I snatched them while getting an autograph.” Karl grins at Alex. “Come on!” The pair fix their hair while walking up to the ticket person.

“Mr. James Trotsky! Please come in!” They say.

“Yes, thank you.” Karl says, while they both hide their faces in their jackets.

The big, fancy theatre room is silent, while the movie starts.

Alex and Karl find their seats on the bottom floor near the front.

[name] starts the movie with her famous lines.

“They say this film’s gonna do much better than the last one, ‘lex, and that one was in the top 3 for 25 weeks!” whispered Karl, nudging his friend and using the nickname he’s used since they were kids.

[name] is on the top floor, watching from above. Alex isn’t interested in the movie, he’s watched it plenty of times since it’s release, about 5 days ago. He’s interested in [name] and stares lovingly at her at the top deck.

Karl pushes his head back towards the movie.

“‘Lex, you’re gonna get us killed! If they see us and the real James Trotsky comes, we’ll get beaten up!” Karl says worried.

“Nah, he’s a nice guy, he won’t say anything.” Alex true to convince Karl.

The dancing part of the film starts.

[name] dances and acts the screen, and Alex watches mesmerised.

He imagines him self as the love interest, dancing up there with her. He smiles to himself at the thought.

As the song ends, Alex doesn’t care anymore, he gets up and gives a standing ovation while Karl tries to pull him down, while the song speeds up, nearing the end, he gets louder and starts dancing. Karl decides to get up too and and dances with Alex, other people get up and everyone starts cheering. Security comes in and pulls Alex and Karl away. They run through the aisles avoiding the officers. Alex looks up to [name] and she smiles at him, he blows kisses at her and falls back while Karl pulls him out.

Alex stumbles around, with his jacket on his head as hair. He mimics [name]’s dialogue, with his audience being Karl, a stray cat, and some kids who were out late.

He finishes up his performance, “Wow!” Karl yells drunkenly, “Applause, applause!” They all clap and cheer for him, and the cat meows in support.

“Can I say something, Karl?” He slurs.

“‘Course, man, anything”

“This year for the filmfares best actress award, will surely go to my love!”

“Of course she will get it!” Karl shouts. “But if the jury was here, they would have given you an award.

“Really?’ Alex asks. “Yeah!” Karl replies.

“When I become a star, I’ll get an award right?” Alex jumps around like a little kid.

“Of course you will!” Karl nudges him.

“When I become a star,” Alex turns whilst wobbling, “I’ll buy this penthouse.” He points to Sam Park’s house.

“Today, Mr. Park owns it, but one day it will be mine.” He says taking another sip.

“Sure it will!”

“Mr. Park lives like an old man, I’ll stay in style, ya know?”

“In style!” Karl throws his arms up.

“Fifteen or sixteen imported cars!”

“In style!” He shouts again.

“About 60 servants.”

“In style!”

“Annnnddd, I’ll have a round bed like in the movies. Every morning when I wake up before my feet even touch the ground someone will slip velvet slippers on me and hand me a glass of juice to start my day!”

“In style!” The both of them yell.

The kids and the cat stare at them both.

“Ah!” Karl says wiping his eyes.

“What happened?”

“Wow, ‘lex, you got me emotional”

“Why, what happened?”

“You’re gonna get the filmfare award later, but first!, accept this bottle award from me!” Karl hands him his empty bottle with a bow.

“Hey, press, take some photos!” They start posing while the children pretend to take photos.

“I’ve written a speech for this award too!” Alex exclaims.

“Everyone sit!” Karl and all the children squat down while Alex gets up on a box to deliver his speech.

“Ladies and gentlemen! I’ve tried to get you with all my heart.” He gestures to the bottle award. “So much so that the universe has conscripted to bring you to me.”

They all look at each other in confusion, Karl raises his hand. “One minute, sir! ‘Lex, I don’t get it.”

“Ooh, shall I make it simple?”

“A bit!”

“Take two!” He clears his throat.

“Ladies and gentlemen!, they say that if you want something with all you heart, then the entire universe works to help you get it. You all have given me what I wanted. Thank you all very much. I feel like the king of the worllldddd!” Alex throws his arms up and cheers. “And, I believe, that just like the films, in life too, everything is okay in the end. A happy ending.”

Karl tears up while looking at his best friend.

“And if it’s not so, then it’s not the end. The film isn’t over yet, my friend! It’s not over..”

Karl and the audience claps for him, Karl wipes his hot tears from his cheeks.

“I love you, I love you all! I love you Sam Park!”

A homeless guy trying to sleep gets up and yells at him.

“What a pathetic speech, get out of here I’m tryna sleep!”

“Hey, but I love you man!” Alex points at him.

The homeless guys raises his fists and threatens them.

“Hey, man, let it be! Run!” Karl grabs Alex by the arm and they both start running.

Alex sneaks in the front door, past his mothers room, up the stairs and lessens his tie, he didn’t get caught! Or so he thought.

The light suddenly turns on, he whips around and sees his Mom.

“Alexis? Your home, son?”

“Yeah..”

“You took so long, I was so scared!”

“Oh, my dramatic mom! Why were you scared? No matter how late I am, I’ll return home. To you!”

She kisses his head. “Alright then, freshen up. I’ll heat some food for you.”

“Actually, I’ve had dinner already.”

“And you’ve drank too!” She smacks him.

Alex sighs, “Forgive me today, I’m sorry. You always used to say that this moon…”

“What moon?” She asks.

“Mom, the moon- Come here.” He drags her to the window. He points to the moon, which looks as bright as the sun tonight. “You always say that this isn’t the moon, but a dream that you have for me.” He smiles at her.

“Tonight, I touched that dream, Mom.” He reels his hands back in and puts them infront of her face. “With these very hands.”

“Really?”

“Yes!, Really!” He hugs her.

“Oh, my prince!..”

She then smacks him and he looks at her with confusion.

“Now sleep, Alex, you have a set to get to in the morning don’t you?”

Authors note: finally it’s done 😁, it might be too long to be a prologue, but there is a lot to this story so idk if it really matters. Also if you have any questions about anything you might not understand, feel free to comment and ask. It’s quite hard to translate it properly because it’s in hindi and I speak urdu, and translating is hard, so some things might not make loads of sense in english. You can ask to be on the tag list and idk when the updates will be since I have a few tests but I hope to post soon! Also, Alexis is a great name but it’s apart of the story that he wants his name to be shorter and stuff, but never be ashamed or want to change things about yourself, all of you are beautiful!
