BIO
Michaela Casková
Born in Brno 1988, Czech Republic
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I am a visual artist and illustrator from Czech Republic, currently Finland.
I graduated from Faculty of Arts (Book and Illustration design),
University of Ostrava and I have also a Master degree in education in arts.
In my everyday and artistic life I try to focus on relationship between nature and human being with strong relation towards sustainability, nature elements, forgotten rituals and fragile heritage hidden in old stories.
For my work I use various mediums and tools – mainly drawing, installation and text, sound recording and collecting. It happens often that stories hidden in drawings or installations become a book. Walking, beholding, observing, recording, telling and collecting are some of the methods. I am always looking for narratives that are real, imagined or combinations of both.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
As a member of Mustarinda association (www.mustarinda.fi) I work on projects
focused on sustainable values and lifestyle, ecological and cultural diversity, and different disciplines of art and science. The core activities of the association consist of independent and critical art, research and education. The activity is centered in the Mustarinda House, which is located next to the Paljakka Nature Reserve in the Kainuu region in Finland. There are facilities for artists/researchers-in-residence as well as art exhibitions and different types of events. In addition, the association develops regional nature protection, nature tourism and culture.
I am working here as a residency coordinator, graphic designer and art workshops lecturer.
