Me and Xander relaxing. It’s Wellness Wednesday, dear heart! This is the day I ask you to focus on wellness, like me and my boy and decide on what you can do for yourself today. Can you hydrate more? Get to bed early? Eat the more energy packed meals you can create/buy/piece together? For me, that means fruit water and making sure I get plenty of protein and veggies. That’s how I feel best physically. How about you? How does your body like to eat? What does your body need? I encourage you to think about the same for who you are mentally and emotionally. Is it time to rip off the band-aid and have a tough conversation that you’ve been avoiding? Do you need to finish a reading? Meditate? Go for a long walk? The amazing thing about mindfulness is that doing something good for your body, like a long walk is also great for helping your brain release and process hard emotions. Breathe into it, dear heart. Breathe into you and honor, love and care for yourself. This is the deepest self-love that you can practice. Off The Mat, the podcast, deals with endings and beginnings today. What does that mean for you.? On this day, the last day of a summer month and the beginning of a day that many of us consider the beginning of Fall, I invite you to just rest and be present. They stress me out, and therefor Bora. But any time we bump into Moos in the neighbourhood, B & M play. The friendship is real. Moos taught Bora so much. Like fetching, ánd returning the ball. Walking away from annoying dogs, kids, or other humans. B conquered her fear of water, with Moos' help. Restore. Xander loves it. He’s very good at it. Well, I’ve been restoring and healing and letting it work through me. I’m waiting for my Covid test to come back to see what IT is. I’m 95% sure it was a food borne illness, but we’ll see soon. I’m finally feeling well enough to teach yoga. So let’s restore on Zoom tonight at 8:30p, CDT. A Yogi Kitchen in the kitchen! Last night Xander and I relaxed during Community Yoga at @thesunriseproject. This nurturing space that feeds, educates and inspires our community also heals us mind/body/spirit. 🧘🏽‍♂️ Last night was a special night, so Xander joined. You’re more likely to get a glimpse of Xander during Zoom classes. Like most animals, he loves yoga energy. He’s always meandering around during Zoom classes, sleeping at my feet or occasionally restoring with us during Savasana. Tonight, we restore on Zoom. Like the idea of practicing in your jammies? You never even need to turn your camera on. After, you can roll off your mat and roll into bed. We are a grassroots organization making yoga accessible on and off the mat. We love practicing with the folks at Sunrise We practice on the mat Sundays at 7p. We practice off the mat the first and third Tuesday and Wednesday of the month by practicing Seva, or selfless service. We prep, cook, package and serve over 600 meals a month to the community. 🦮🦮🦮 Celebrate the Wins! Xander is a champ at celebrating wins. Whether it’s just spending time outdoors now that the heat has broken, getting an extra treat or finding something he lost, he twirls and smiles and pays attention to the wins. He does it on a daily basis. Part of managing our mental health around @ayogikitchen is taking a moment once a week to celebrate the wins. Usually I ask on Friday cause for so many that is the end of the work week. For me and our yoga family, it’s the beginning of the week. So, take a moment to celebrate whenever it feels good to you. We’re starting our week with a Pop-Up. I’m calling this class Twisty Turvy Gentle Yoga. It starts at 9a, CDT, today and will release tension and tightness while bringing energy and vitality to the back, shoulders, hips and legs. This session our word is Strong, so we’ll do some gentle but effective core work for Strong abs. My wins this week? Frankly I’ve had a tough week. It’s not easy to see the wins. I ran out of fucks. It’s a good thing! It’s shaping my thinking in a different way. I have more processing to do on that and I’ll share more later. I took a real full day off of rest and connection. This morning I saw the sunrise and it’s been a while since I’ve done that. There is a big shift coming for me-or I’m in the midst of a shift and I feel strong and I’m remembering that I am strong. On reflection, those are some good wins. And that’s why I encourage you take a moment. Close your eyes or soften your gaze and just be present with the wins. They may be better than you think. Crazy dog. It’s 105 with the heat in Ndebele and my nut wants to lie in the sun. When I called he decided enough was enough right before I was going to call him in, he was hot to the touch. Xander with the big dogs. Our last, perfect day on the beach before rain and travel. Xander shepherded his way through our day. His first task is to say hello to everyone at Montrose Dog Beach and I mean everyone. He exhausted himself running around sniffing and licking new two legged and four legged friends. After a little running around with some young ones and a sneaky escape out of the gate (where would you want to go thats’s better?), he took up a spot by the entrance. Like the true French Shepherd that seems to be most prominent in his blood, he greeted each and everyone as they came in. Xander has never met a human or dog he doesn’t like. He can deal with the happy ones, the ones that like to dominate and show their strength and the ones are only interested in tennis balls and wave surfing. He is mild mannered and friendly. He’s the Walmart greeter of the dog beach. Our little family, sat in a low walk and watched the people, watched the dogs and took in the gorgeous day. I am calm and centered today because I spent part of my Sunday on the water. Water energy is healing and life affirming. It helps us stay present with both our challenges and the ease in our lives. It’s the perfect element for me to focus on and be surrounded by during my birthday month. Keeping watch. It’s been beautiful and we’ve been out in the yard a lot the last few days. This is what Xander does. We’ve been told he’s a Beauceron mix. A French shepherd, his breed is known to sleep outdoors in the Alps with whomever he’s shepherding. He keeps watch. When I’m at the front of the house he stands at the driveway and surveys the street. If theres a group he wanders the outside perimeter, but if he can stand in the center he seems most happy. Because of Covid we’ve been a very spread out group, and not very often, so he wanders from person to person making sure they’re okay before he settles in for the watch. People complain that when you rescue a dog you never know what you’re getting. The best thing in all the rescue dogs I’ve had is that you never know what you’re getting. Never in a million years would we have guessed that this giant would be so gentle, so loving, so loyal or so fiercely protective.
