Make Rohan a Bender but NOT an AIRBENDER
I know Pema wants Rohan to be a non-bender like her. But what would be cool is if he turned out to be a WATERBENDER.
Imagine how happy Katara would be! Kya it seems will never settle down and give Katara a grandkid. And Bumi became an airbender due to that dumb harmonic convergence crap (screw Korra btw). Rohan being a waterbender would force Tenzin to acknowledge the water tribe part of his heritage for once! Also maybe Katara could teach Rohan too :). Katara deserves to have a waterbending grandkid damnit and to be more involved in her own freaking family! Give LOK Katara some love please!

Gaang grandkid headcanons
We don't get a lot of these dynamics in canon, and there are very different headcanons out there about who fathered whom and how much the Gaang themselves stayed in touch. This is how I see it.
I'm one of the ones who do think the Gaang remained close friends, and that their kids and grandkids all grew up in each others' orbits. They didn't always all like each other but it's an extended family type relationship.
While I personally enjoy a variety of Sokka and Suki ships, I've been converted to the endgame-Sukka-had-lots-of-babies theory (you know who you are) and so imagine these kids and grandkids being part of this circle.
There's a big age range on the kids and an even bigger one on the grandkids, so while they all know each other some were closer than others. Sukka grandkids are the oldest, while Tenzin's kids are the youngest.
Izumi has older children we don't meet in canon. These kids are close in age to most of the Sukka grandkids and are part of that "older grandkids" circle.
Iroh II and Baatar Jr are very close in age and so were frequent playmates as kids, but they're very different people and so drifted apart in their early teens. As adults they're not good for much more than a stiff hello.
Iroh has hooked up with Kuvira at least once. This may or may not contribute to that dislike.
Ikki was always enamored with Huan. At first this annoyed him. As they got older the age gap made less of a difference. They eventually wind up sharing a loft apartment with their four owl cats.
Jinora and Opal have the closest female friendship, though they both get along very well with Izumi's daughter, too. But she is a bit sheltered and didn't visit as frequently.
Iroh supports Meelo joining the United Forces. Tenzin doesn't speak to him for a year.
Of the grandkids, Wing and Wei are the least close to others, probably because as twins they always had each other.
Zuko and Mai brought their family to the SWT every summer to visit. As a result, their grandkids are very close to Katara and Aang, having served as substitute grandkids for many years before Tenzin got married.
Later on Izumi would take her family to visit Zaofu to go skiing with Suyin's.

what are kannas judgmental opinions on the gaang (+mai and ty lee?)
okay i’ve written before on how kanna feels about the gaang, but you specifically said judgmental which is a whole other question. bc I do think that kanna can be a massive cunt when she wants (or needs) to be :)
katara: she is gonna get their whole village killed, not because she inherently has a target on back, but because she insists on making one anyway. literally one day of quiet and she’d never ask for anything ever again. literally just one day where she sits inside and doesn’t yell and doesn’t run off somewhere and give kanna a heart attack. she’s too fucking old for this….. please katara. just go inside and do your chores, quietly. you are killing your grandmother. is that what you want, katara, huh??? to kill your grandmother? katara catches a cold one day and stays curled up in bed and doesn’t speak because she has a sore throat, and kanna just spends the whole day bringing her soup and katara is so cute and cuddly the whole time it’s literally the best day of her life.
sokka: exact opposite problem, which is that he’s too obedient and it kinda scares her. please fight back just a little. just take one day off. breaks are important! she was a rebellious child, so as much as katara exhausts her, she also understands her very well. she does not understand sokka at all. he literally does everything she would ever ask from him before she even has to ask (to the point that katara thinks he does nothing, because kanna never forces sokka into doing anything). she has no idea who raised him to be this obedient, because it certainly wasn’t her. he used to be funny and curious and full of life as a child, but now his miserable depressed aura saps the vibes out of every room. at least when she’s doing chores with katara they chit chat and make jokes, but with sokka, she doesn’t even want that boy in her house. absolute vibe killer.
aang: he’s a bad influence on katara. or maybe katara is a bad influence on him? either way they should know better than to go into a fire nation ship. say what you will about sokka’s wet miserable aura, but he simply would not do that. but he’s also really cute, so. it’s ok :)
toph: this girl clearly thinks that she is too good to visit the south pole and she has no idea why sokka speaks so highly of that rich snob. and the first time she meets her, toph isn’t even all that polite to her?? this kid is yet another delinquent bad influence on her grandkids. (she grows on her.)
suki: she has absolutely nothing bad to say about suki. next!
zuko: invaded her village + attacked sokka + grabbed her and shoved her rudely + kidnapped aang + stupid hair + pure evil. (once they are introduced properly after the war, though, zuko apologizes and he’s really sweet about it so she forgives him and basically just likes him from that point forward.)
mai: katara hates her but sokka loves her so she doesn’t know what to think. on one hand, katara is her favorite, but on the other hand, sokka exercises better judgment. she barely talks in her presence, so she genuinely has no clue. she kind of gives off scary vibes though. who can say.
ty lee: the most charming girl in the world, second only to suki. kanna has nothing bad to say about ty lee. in fact she once suggests to katara that she could stand to be more like ty lee, and katara throws a hissy fit. which is exactly the kind of behavior kanna was referring to. oh well.
appa: perfect creature. no notes.
momo: his green eyes are staring directly into her soul. for the love of god please get him some brown contacts.

I love your gaang hc's! I saw you touched on sukka and zutara. Do you have any relationship specific head canons for them?
Sokka and Suki love hunting together. When Sokka proposed to Suki, she didn't have any male relatives for him to hunt with, so they went together to hunt for the main course of their engagement feast. Ever since, they go on a long hunting trip together for their anniversary. When their kids are old enough, they join in, too. Sometimes Sokka's family joins in. Suki's aunt (who raised her) has never been so inclined, but she comes to help watch the kids while they're gone sometimes when they're still too young to go, and will help clean the kill when they return. After Sokka passes, Suki keeps the tradition alive with her kids and their children, and for her last trip, her great-grandkids.
Zuko is a cuddle bug. Because of their status and Zuko's general discomfort with heavy PDA, he and Katara rarely do more than hold hands in public. When they are home, though, in their private rooms, he can often be found in Katara's arms, or resting on her (shoulder, lap, stomach, whatever position is easiest). When they are separated, Zuko has a pillow sprayed with her perfume that he sleeps with. Once they have kids, he loves cuddling them, too. At bedtime, the entire royal family can often be found curled up together on Katara and Zuko's bed while he reads them all sorts of stories or poems, or even essays from scholars around the world (age appropriate, of course). As the kids get older, they are less inclined to join family cuddle time, but Zuko can always curl up with his wife. After she dies, Zuko can't get a comfortable night's sleep, and he struggles with insomnia until his death about a year later.

DEVASTATED that we didn't get more interactions between the gaang's grandkids. Like I wanna know what their relationships are. Do they know each other? Are they friends? Or is it more of a ' our grandparents kinda saved and fundamentally reshaped the world together and forged indestructible bonds in the fire of war and trauma so it would be really awkward if we weren't at least nice to each other' type thing?
I want a scene of them all hanging out, man.... so bad...
Like imagine mixing the unbridled chaos that are the Airkids, the absolute feral energy of the Beifong babies with poor general Iroh the Spineless having to somehow keep them all in check.
Send them all on a life changing fieldtrip i say!

any hcs about Zuko's relationship with Iroh II??
Hey there! I am so sorry for the delay with this, I get asks and then I say I'll go back to them and never do hahahaha. This is a great one, and I wish that we would have seen Zuko and Iroh II have at least 1 scene together. But alas, we have our hcs to hold us over. *hint hint Avatar Studios* So I think that Zuko definitely had a very close relationship with Iroh II. Based on what we saw in ATLA, it seems as though Azulon never acknowledged his grandkids, so Zuko definitely wanted to avoid that with his grandkids.
We dont see/know about Iroh II's father, but I've always headcanoned that he doesn't know his dad and his sister is more of his half sister. So because of this, I think Zuko was definitely a substitute father for him. Especially when Izumi first had Iroh II, I think Zuko and Mai definitely helped her out and so Iroh II thinks of Zuko as the father he never had. As Iroh II grew up, Zuko would always tell him stories about his time with the Gaang, the Fire Nation Crew, Iroh I, etc... Iroh II always loves to hear about them, and I hc that this is one of the main reasons he joins the United Forces. Also based on what we have read from the RPG, it appears as though Iroh II and Izumi have sort of a strained relationship due to their view on politics. Izumi wants to play it safe whereas Iroh II does not. I think that when he became a teen, this strife started and went to Zuko for advice/to calm down. Zuko was probably like an Iroh I to him. I also think that Izumi was not as supportive at first with Iroh II joining the United Forces and revoking his right to the throne. Zuko was there to help support Iroh II and talk Izumi into it :) Thanks so much for the ask, feel free to send more! <3

Book 1: Intertwined Destinies
Chapter 1
Fandom: Avatar the Last Air Bender
Summary: Music night washes over Iroh. The crew’s attention  on each other means no one notices  their allegedly ill prince slipping over the side of the Wani and onto the dock.
Zuko, as The Blue Spirit, is leaving to meet another White Lotus Bud agent to exchange information on the Earth Armies for similar details on Fire Nation troops.
The White Lotus Buds are more successful than Iroh expected. Sometimes he thinks the war would end in days if they left the operatives in charge.
The White Lotus Buds were inspired by Zuko himself. It wasn't difficult to connect The Blue Spirit’s earlier escapades with Zuko. Not once one realized there were connections to make.
Iroh does not know when the sneaking began, though he has his suspicions. Ten year old princes don’t go missing for days on end easily. And there's the  ambiguity surrounding  Azulon’s death and Ursa’s sudden flight. When it started doesn’t truly matter when Zuko will not speak of it.
Shaking off his wandering curiosity, Iroh lets himself be drawn into the singing of an old sea shanty. It helps keep an old man awake, which he will need if he wants to be alert for his nephew’s return later that night.

Chapter Preview
Sokka stomps his feet against the  iron deck of the abandoned Fire Nation ship beneath him and pulls the arctic fox-bear skin lower over his face. Until recently he’d thought the mask-hood combo Gran Gran had insisted he keep was ridiculous. He might technically be a White Lotus Bud, but much like being a man of the tribe, it was in name only. Despite his eighteen years he’d never even been ice dodging.
Then he’d received word from Gran Gran that he’d be meeting with another operative, The Blue Spirit himself. To say that Sokka was excited was to put it mildly. The Blue Spirit was a legend in their organization. The top operative the White Lotus had to offer. And Sokka was going to meet him tonight! Though his excitement had waned in the last  three hours and several degrees.

What is your opinion on Katara as a character. How do you think she should develop after the show ends. Many were upset at her comics portrayal almost as much as Azula.
As I've said before, the comics are just Yang's fanfic, with Zuko being his self-insert into the story. I do not take it as canon.
As for Katara in the original show, I actually had a conversation about it with @dragomer very recently. Our conclusion was basically that she is mostly a good character that we still like, but there were moments when the writers dropped the ball simply because of lack of attention.
She starts off struggling to bend, especially when compared to Aang, then suddenly she can put up a pretty good fight against Pakku, becomes Aang's teacher, and is basically shown as a prodigy.
We see her steal from pirates and use the fact that they stole all the stuff they have as an excuse, then berate Toph for doing the exact same thing in "The Runaway"
Again, it's nothing too major, say like the complete character assassination everyone went through in the comics, but it could have and should have been done better, especially in the later seasons (I give book 1 a bit of pass since the writers were still kind of figuring the characters and world out).
For her future, I imagine that she will still be with Aang, and they'll spend half of their time in the South Pole, trying to rebuild it with her family, and the other half flying all over the world to help people, or to visit their friends, or just because they want to go on a vacation somewhere nice. Whenever she's not on work mode, she's playing, being goofy, just relaxing a bit, or enjoying some quality time with her loved ones.
She'll be a known healer and fighter, and will sometimes teach some special classes in the North Pole, but mostly her focus is on helping the waterbenders of her own tribe as it grows once more.
I see her and Aang getting married in their early 20s, but only having kids much later on (mid to late 30s), when they're more mature and the world doesn't need their help as much as it used to on the years immediately after the war.
I see her, Aang, and honestly the entire Gaang, being the kind of old people that are trouble makers, way more than they ever were as kids, because with the world almost completely stable, and their children fully raised and independent, they don't owe shit to nobody anymore and will do whatever they want.
Katara will be probably be the kind, loving granny that will just say some wild shit about her life when she was younger to bait her grandkids into begging her to tell them about how awesome and badass she is and she will go "Well, if you insist... here's how I literally I brought your grandpa back to life, saving him, the Avatar cycle, and the world all at once"

(Going) Down and Out in Ba Sing Se (published): Hookups in Ba Sing Se end up very much affecting Zuko's decision in the Crystal Catacombs
Ba Sing Se Boyfriends (published): Zuko and Aang end up dating in Ba Sing Se

happy ffwf! if you could write any AU at all (that you haven't already written or isn't in the process of being written right now), what would it be and why?
Happy FFWF, northern!
Hmmm. This is a hard one! I'm pretty picky about modern AUs, but I would be interested in maybe writing a short modern oneshot one day, just to try. Overall I generally prefer in-universe stories, though, even if I change pieces of the storyline haha.
OH WAIT I FORGOT! I would be interested in writing an AU from LoK where Aang lives long enough to meet and form relationships with his grandkids, see Bumi become an airbender and the rebirth of his nation as an elder, and maybe even have more than 3 kids with Katara... I think it was @itsmoonpeaches who asked who I would kill off in fic, and I would definitely be down to write Aang and the gaang reacting to Zuko's death in this AU, where Zuko dies *before* Aang. This would be a big undertaking though and I have a lot of other projects that need attention before I get to that idea, haha.

Zutara Thoughts
First, I want to thank the Zutara fandom for their participation in my poll! I knew the fandom was active and huge but I never realized how much. Definitely the best fandom I have ever been a part of :).
Anyway, I want to talk about an aspect of Zutara that I struggled with when I was younger and sometimes still do. I HATED how Katara treated Zuko when he joined the group. I hated how nasty her character became. I hated her. I could not stand her. Back then, I liked Katara of course. Maybe I liked Azula a tad more because I subconsciously saw Katara as just a lame love interest in the grand scheme of things. I find love interest characters usually not worth my time. And I was in an Azula angst phase. Zuko is my favourite character. Always was and always will be. Even though I appreciate her more now, Katara will never outshine Zuko. So I hated her.
And it affected the types of Zutara stories I read. I read the type of stories where Katara nearly murdered him. Tortured him. Starved him. Injured him. Basically where she was an outright menacing bitch to Zuko. The kinds of fics where Toph and Aang, and sometimes Sokka and Hakoda, had to play referee to prevent things from turning ugly.
Or I would read the fics where Katara's anger and hatred were resolved by the 'gaang learns about the scar' plot. Or the 'Zuko is Roku's grandkid' plot. Anything to cleanly resolve the tension. Because I did not care about Katara's anger. I just hated that she was treating my baby Zuko badly.
But both these types of stories do Katara a huge disservice. Sure, Katara teased Zuko and showed no appreciation when he helped her. But she would not let him fall to his death after the Zuko vs Azula fight at the air temple (read a fic where Katara did that, pretty sure it was discontinued). Sure, Katara has compassion for people. But people's sob stories should not automatically make their hurtful actions forgiven. It invalidates her suffering.
Part of me still thinks that she had no right to be angry on a rare occasion. Zuko never promised her anything in the catacombs. They were basically still enemies. They were down there for a while, but they could not be called anything resembling friends. So how could Zuko betray her? There was hardly a relationship to betray...
I think about how she would have left him to die in the tundra at the North Pole without a backwards glance if not for Aang. Without Aang stepping in, Zuko would be dead. Stiff, stone dead. And I doubt she would have shed a tear. I don't see Zuko holding that against her. And I honestly would have liked some kind of apology for her threatening to kill him. It's a miracle Zuko was able to function so well with that threat looming over him.
I struggle with that part sometimes because I love Zuko a lot. But I love Zutara and the beauty of the ship. How it compliments the story of ATLA and how it makes both Zuko and Katara better characters. The development of Zutara is part of what makes it special for me. All of the peaks and valleys. It's a shame it's not canon. But considering Bryke are completely blind to the treasure the ship holds, it's better off far away from those hack clowns.

Irosami wedding headcanon
As far as we know, by the end of LOK Asami has no living family. The only friends we see her with are the Krew. Meanwhile, General Iroh has the entire Fire Nation royal family, a whole army full of friends and subordinates, and a long history with the Gaang kids and grandkids. Asami would go into a relationship knowing she doesn't bring much in terms of people. So I like to think that Iroh works hard behind the scenes in advance of their wedding. He reaches out to her assistant at Future Industries, her Board (the ones she likes), and her favorite colleagues. He talks to collaborators like Baatar Sr and fans like Prince Wu. He pulls in people from the Reconstruction Committee in Republic City government and the team who helped design the new downtown train station and her long-time hair stylist and the woman who runs Asami's favorite kickboxing class. He steals a look at her yearbooks and tracks down her old school friends. Not everyone will talk to him, but he finds that most will.
On their wedding day Asami is shocked to see the venue bursting with people from every aspect of her life. Future Industries' chief architect and the owner of her favorite bakery wheel out a towering cake covered in purpleberry icing to general applause. Iroh kisses her cheek. She starts to cry.

I just think that if Kanna was in the white lotus, it would be soooo cool. So thematic. Just... In canon, she’s sending Sokka and Katara on a journey in reverse of the one she took long ago, which is cool enough, but if she was in the white lotus, boy, would the plot thicken!
For one thing, Katara and Kanna already have a direct parallel: Kanna leaves the North Pole to escape Pakku, and Katara goes off to the North Pole in search of him (though she didn’t know it was him specifically). With the white lotus addition, Sokka and Kanna would have a parallel too, because Piandao eventually invites Sokka to join the white lotus. Both Kanna and Sokka would have been escorted across the world by the same ancient organization, and one day asked to join it.
Imagine if Kanna sent her grandchildren into the war torn world knowing there would be a network of people she knew and trusted to guide them. Imagine if every time they met a member of the white lotus, we would feel Kanna’s influence and protection. Sokka and Katara don’t really mention their grandmother even though she was the only adult at home with them for 2 years before episode 1. She deserves to be close to the story as it unfolds. Especially at the end, when the gaang finds the white lotus gathered together. She could welcome them near the end of their journey after she had been the one to send them off on it. At the beginning, she told Sokka and Katara that their destinies were intertwined with Aang’s, and if she had been there to remind them of that fact when Aang was missing, when they were moments away from the crux of their journey, the crux of their destiny, I mean...
In canon, Iroh talks to the gaang about destiny. In this conversation, the destiny they speak of is focused on the rest of that day. After all, this is what they’ve been working towards for months. He simply tells them what Aang’s and Zuko’s are, but Sokka has to ask about his own. In the beginning of the story, he basically rolled his eyes at his grandma when she spoke of destiny, but now he’s asking about it, and knows that it’s real in some capacity. Even if Kanna couldn’t be there in person, he would still be talking to her people, and asking for her wisdom one last time before the end of the war. We could have seen Katara and Sokka’s new understanding of the war, of themselves, of the world that they gained during their travels through this parallel. And not just us, but Kanna could have seen how much her grandchildren have grown, and knew that she was right to let them go when she did.

TELL ME ANYTHING BUCHEF AND THEIR RAT KID RELATED PLEASE PLEASE I AM A STARVING CHILD DYING OF STARVATION AND NEED THEM TO LIVE
Ok so the kid comes from southern water tribe immigrants. Whether she's a waterbender is up to you. She ended up on the street relatively early in her life. She became a skilled pickpocket and scammer. She has the emotional maturity of an autistic racoon. She lives in the sewers and often wanders the docks and shipyard.
She tries to pickpocket Bumi and Chef while they were out getting supplies for their houseboat. Of course they do catch onto her and chef grabs her like this:
Tumblr media
She does bite him tho, but she's so malnourished that she ends up tuckering herself out very quickly. They do end up taking her back home and nursing her back to health. She greatly enjoys Chef's food and tells herself that she's only staying for the food, but she slowly warms up to the two nice old guys who have probably shown her more kindness than she has experienced in months, maybe even years.
I think she bonds with Chef first. He's quieter and just lets her do her own thing while he reads a newspaper or a cookbook. Also he bribes her with food. No competition. I think Chef is also more used to 'difficult children, having known Huan and Kuvira since they were small kids.
Bumi is good with kids, don't get me wrong. Bur I think him being so outwardly friendly and outgoing to her may make her suspicious. She probably is very surprised when she learns he used to be a high up in the military. She's like 'really? This dude? The one with the squeaky bunny slippers???' I think they eventually bond as well and he helps her reconnect with her southern water tribe roots. He takes her ice dodging for her 15th birthday and hes super proud of her when she gets through it.
Katara ADORES her immediately. She's so happy to have ANOTHER grandkid. The rat is super interested in the Gaang stories and thinks Katara is super cool. Similair with Kya, rat thinks Kya is just the coolest (which does cause Bumi severe psychological damage, thanks for asking)
She dislikes Tenzin tho. Calls him a stiff. But she gets along with the airkids well enough. She does call Jinora a nerd, though she does occasionally borrow (steal) Jinora's books. But her Ikki and Meelo are chaos incarnate.
Her, Kai, Mako and Bolin gave this unspoken 'we were orphans and the world is cruel and we are very traumatised. High five' alliance. Maybe her and Kai have this passive pickpocketing competition going on, you can't prove anything. Mako is very aware of this and disapproves vehemently. Bolin has been pickpicketed like 8 times because there is no loyalty among thieves.
Thanks for the ask if you have any more questions id be glad to answer! Sorry it took so long but i had a busy couple days!

Book 1: Intertwined Destinies
Chapter 2

Chapter PreviewKanna's Grandson was doing a terrible job of hiding his displeasure with his sweet old Gran-Gran. Which was fine by her, let the youth pout and grumble. Kanna was also displeased, but with The Blue Spirit for letting Sokka know that she hadn't informed The White Lotus of The Southern Water Tribe's situation. It simply wasn’t their business.
Sokka refused to understand that telling the organization how close to the brink they were would only have put The Tribe and The Lotus in peril. The Lotus would insist on giving aid, and if the Fire Nation noticed it would be the death of them all.
For his part Sokka had refused to see it her way and had stormed out of the family tent to make Katara join him on a fishing expedition without so much as a good morning. As if the slight would get her to see that his way was superior.
