Hello TG fandom! It’s been several months since our beloved Tokyo Ghoul came to an end, but our love for it’s still going strong! So this Halloween, let’s show this wonderful series the spooky love it deserves, and brand it a real Ghouloween!

Day 4 - Trick-or-Treat | Candy

Being an immortal warlock that lives in the twenty-first century comes with a lot of perks. One of them is the joy to relish in the festivity the humans so fondly dub as Halloween. It's not Hide's first time celebrating Halloween but it's ever the first time ever that he's without sweets.

It's too late to go out to buy them so Hide's left with a single choice: to summon a millions-old demon that can assist him.

Hence, why Hide's currently in his summoning chamber, smiling joyously at the demon. Centipede. Kaneki Ken as Hide has named him. The creature looks down at him, giving Hide a look of pure disbelief and exasperation. There's also delicate longing there but Hide isn't going to point it out for now.

“Hide,” Kaneki says, deadpan. Hide grins at that. They’ve known each other for nine centuries but Kaneki still acts guarded around him sometimes. It’s adorable. “Why would you wake me up me from my sleep just to ask me to conjure items of confectionery for you? You could just materialize them by yourself.”

Hide stares at the hovering creature, seemingly offended. “Items of confectionery? You're so pretentious. Just say candies.”

Kaneki sputters. Then the bell rings, follows by a chorus of adorable ‘trick-or-treat!’. Hide squeaks before he makes a quick grab for the demon's wrist. Hide pulls him quickly towards the front door, disregarding Kaneki's loud protest.

“Okay, so-- stop hovering, Ken! No hovering in my home. We use our feet like humans.”

Kaneki hisses at Hide, baring his cute tiny fangs and candescent bloody eyes like he's about to swallow Hide whole. The warlock coos, pinching Kaneki's cheek. He’s missed Kaneki terribly.

“Anyway, stop hovering and fold your wings close. They're taking space. And make sure to conjure the candies in front of these kids so they'll think you're a street magician or something. Kids love that,” Hide explains eagerly.

Despite his previous ire, Kaneki begrudgingly heeds Hide's requests. “Should I change my appearance?”

“Nah, it's Halloween. People are going to assume you're in a rad costume.”

“What-”

Hide opens the door. They're greeted by a group of young kids in different costumes, happy and bright without all the burdens in the world. Hide smiles gently as that. He can feel Kaneki's bloodshot eyes on him, probably studying him intently like Kaneki always does. Finally, he hears Kaneki’s tiny sigh.

“Fine, I'll do it.” In seconds, Kaneki materializes varieties of sweets. The atmosphere changes. Completely light and bright cheery pink, a sweetness in the air that Hide can almost taste with his tongue. Hide laughs when the kids clamoring close to Kaneki, complimenting his costume and thanking him for his supposedly magic performance. Kaneki goes red, suddenly kind to the little humans.

It lasts for a while; people come and go and Hide is not ashamed to admit that summoning Kaneki as his candies-making machine is one of the most brilliant ideas he's ever come up with.

Hours later into the night when it's finally quiet, Hide pushes Kaneki into his room. In the midst of the chamber is a large sarcophagus without a lid. Inside, it's filled with colorful duvets and pillows, decorated with small posters of Hide's favorite bands on both sides of the panels.

Kaneki stares blankly at Hide.

“You still use this as your bed?”

“It’s for the aesthetic, Kaneki. Humans love it!”

“Yes. But you sarcophagus is too colorful and it smells like strawberry.”

“I love strawberries,” Hide says simply. “Now, come on. Let's cuddle. I missed my boyfriend, you know? I only get to summon you once every three decades.” Hide opens his arms, inviting Kaneki for a hug. The demon rolls his eyes, strides towards Hide and hoists the warlock up with ease.

They stumble together into the sarcophagus, landing softly on the thick duvets, exchanging sweet kisses and small giggles as Kaneki playfully nips his lover's skin without breaking the skin.

Hide has been to many places, has met so many people, seen countless breathtaking things; learning countless spells, leaving marks and taking pictures wherever he goes. But nothing beats the joy Hide feels when he gets to have Kaneki by his side. Nothing can be more precious.

Happy Ghouloween 2020!

Ghouloween is a Tokyo Ghoul fan event inspired by @tokyo-ghouloween . You can submit fanfiction, fanart, edits, any kind of Tokyo Ghoul art inspired by these prompts. Ghouloween is going to take place during October 11-17. Experimentation with these prompts is welcome and I hope y'all have fun working with them.
