Beach Boys

Dean hates that this beach is public.

There’s too many noisy folks, and now a roaming wad of douchey bros (you know the type) is courting Sam for beach volleyball.

Sam looks dumbfounded, like he hasn’t noticed how tall he is, and how that might make him first pick for the intramural beach-losers’ draft.

But Sam, being Sam, quirks an easy grin and says “sure.”

Ugh.

Jack throws puppy eyes, and Sam asks if he can play, too. The dude-bros shrug, friendly in that oily, college-keg-totin’ kinda way.

“I’ll play,” Mary says, jumping up and giving Jack a gentle nudge. “Show you the basics.”

Well, Dean doesn’t wanna play.

It’s been Hell getting his overlapping towels just right so none of the friggin’ hot sand grates against his skin.

The group of college bros move off to the net a little ways down from them and plops their enormous Arctic Cooler keg (surprise, surprise) off to the side.

Rowena pulls her sunglasses down, peeks appreciatively at the mass of tan, muscly bods, and makes to move her entire setup closer, umbrella and all.

“You comin?” she trills.

When Dean shakes his head, she pulls off her oversized hat and plops it on top of his head.

“Suit yourself.”

Sam gets the hang of it pretty quickly, but then, he barely has to even jump to spike the ball.

Mary is good—quick on her feet and able to skitter through the thick, ankle-floppin’ sand like a human sand-crab.

Jack is—not good. He misses more than he passes, and his first serve doesn’t even go over the net. The college bros jeer, and Dean squeezes his empty beer can hard enough that it crunches.

He mentally names them: Smirky Opie for the tall redhead, Stifler for sunglasses guy, and A.C. Slater for the dark-haired one.

They’re all dicks.

Dean can tell.

“You can do it!” Mary keeps saying, and Sam just claps his hands like some kind of deranged rec-league coach.

When Jack digs his first spike, Dean whoops for joy. When Sam slams down a kill, Rowena whistles.

“They seem to be enjoying themselves.”

Dean hadn’t heard Cas come up.

“Yeah,” he says absent-mindedly. “You got the better stuff?”

Dean peeks up, and Cas’s face is shadowed by the glare of the sun. But he’s got two drinks in hand, one deliciously chocolate and frothy-looking.

“Oooh, gimme.”

Cas dutifully hands over the creamy glass of Bushwacker. Then, Dean watches Cas watch him gulp it down. Finding it difficult to keep his gaze, Dean tracks his eyes back to the game, where Mary misses a block at the net.

“Hold this,” Cas says, and a shorter, orange-colored glass gets shoved into Dean’s free hand.

Dean takes a whiff. Rum?

“Whatcha get?”

Cas’s lips twitch, “Jungle bird.”

Dean fails to hold back a smile. “Nice.”

“Rum, pineapple juice, and Campari, though I can pick out many more molecules than that.”

Cas stoops to snag his own towel, discarded and messy on Dean’s right side, then snaps it mid-air, sending tiny granules spraying too near to Dean’s nest of towels.

“Hey.”

“Sorry.”

Cas re-spreads his towel and settles down, no more than a foot of space between them. Dean glances over, finds him lying flat with both eyes closed.

Cas’s hand shoots out expectantly, and with a fond snicker, Dean sets the Jungle Bird in his open palm.

When Cas takes a small swig, his mouth bumps up against the slice of lime hooked onto the glass rim. His unoccupied hand rests against his stomach, looking extra tan against his plain white tee.

Dean kind of wishes he’d move it, maybe drop it strategically into the space between them.

Dean blurts out, “You don’t wanna play?”

Cas squints one eye open. He looks curiously to the volleyball net.

“Not particularly.” Then, “Those males seem somewhat mean-spirited.”

One of the dudes gets hang-time and crams a spike so hard into Sam’s face that Sam barely gets his wrists up to shank it.

Yeah.

“You have more towels than when I left.”

Dean rolls his eyes. So what if he’d hogged the towels? So what if it made more laundry that they'll have to do tonight?

“Sand’s itchy as fuck, man. You see that beach house five doors down? S’got a hot tub built into their deck.”

Cas’s eyes close again, languid and as close to relaxed as Dean’s ever seen him.

“Hot tub. Wouldn’t you find that oppressively hot in summertime?”

“Not at night! That’s the real time to enjoy the beach anyway.”

Cas stares at him for a long time. Dean can’t parse it.

“Yes,” says Cas.

Dean clears his throat and glances back to the game just in time to see redheaded-douchewad-Smirky Opie spike the ball into Jack’s dopey, smiling face.

Blood sprays from Jack’s nose, and Smirky Opie grins wider.

Dean’s blood pressure goes through the roof.

"I was in love with you when we were younger, you were myyyy, my boo." You sang and nodded your head to the beat of "My Boo," playing off your speaker, bracelets dangling together as you got all your hair products together. Miles texted you a couple of hours ago asking if you could wash and braid his hair for him since his mom was at work. That leaves you here now, on the floor, searching for your mousse under your bathroom sink.

"You know, seeing you like this is funny.."

You jumped and hit your head on the cabinet (ouchie) as you heard your boyfriend's voice suddenly behind you. Whipping your head around to glare at the tall boy, quick to fuss at him. "Bro, who told you you could just pop up whenever you wanted without texting first?"

"Uhm, first of all, I'm not your bro," He said, pulling you off the ground. "And I did text baby, but it seems like you were away from the phone." He finishes as he tries to put a small peck to your lips, but you move your head to the side. "Damn, baby. It's like that now?"

"Nigga don't play with me. You fucking made me hit my head, so yeah, it's like that," you answer like it's the most obvious thing in the world. "How'd you even get in?" you wondered aloud, quickly getting your answer as you glanced at your now open window. "Oh."

"Yeah, oh. You should start locking that."

"As if that shit would stop you."

"You got me there." He chuckled, looking at you walk to change the song on your phone. 2 AM by SZA starts playing. "Whatya looking for anyway?" your boyfriend questions you. "Mousse, you said you wanted braids, right?" You reply, looking at him over your shoulder as he nods. "Gimme a sec. I'm gonna go ask my mom if she has some," you uttered before leaving the room. Miles took a second to take in your room; it's been a while since he's been in here since you both have been busy with school and work. He missed the smell of your incense burning and the after-smell of the weed you almost always smoked before he got there. You snap him out of his trance as you walk back into the room with the mousse you'd been searching for.

"Aight lil' nigga get in the bathroom," You pat him on the shoulder. "Shirt off, too."

"Oh?" he smirked.

"Miles."

"Right."

You made quick work of setting the towel on the floor and another on the edge of the tub, having a feeling he was gonna wet everything up. "Okie-dokie on your butt." You say as you stand over him, removing your wrist jewelry and putting your locs up in a bun. He looks up at you with a weird smug look on his face. "Y'know, you standing over me like that reminds me of-"

"Don't een finish that sentence." You cut him off with a pointed look.

"Right."

"C'mon baby, lean your head back, and scoot down a lil bit. You know you tall." You guide him while turning on the faucet.

"You're really pretty.." he whispered, looking up at you getting the shampoo and conditioner. You chuckled while kicking off your long skirt to reveal shorts underneath, "Thanks, Miles."

Squirting shampoo on your hands, you lean over to massage it into Miles' scalp thoroughly, moving onto the ends once you finished soaping up his roots. You move one hand to fix your shirt, not doubting that your cleavage is all in your boyfriend's face. Not that he would complain.

It seems like you might've tugged your hand away from Miles' hair too quickly, making him hiss with a slight wince.

"Mami, at least try to be gentle." He whined loudly, bringing his hands up to latch onto your thigh.

"Boy, if you don't get ya ass off me while I'm trying to finish this! Stop being a baby, and it's not my fault you're so damn tender-headed."

"Rude..."

You rinse out his hair a little gentler this time, getting the wide tooth comb out to detangle his hair.

"Aight, just gotta detangle and condition it, and we'll be done!" You smiled and leaned down to peck his cheek. "Be good. This might hurt. If you start screaming and hollering, imma pop you."

And boy, did he get popped—a lot.

"Miles, calm down. This is the last section!" You laughed, tears coming down your face as you watched your boyfriend act like a little kid getting their hair done for the first time. He glared at you as a singular tear started to roll down his cheek. He wiped it quickly, though.

You finally finish conditioning the last section of your boyfriend's hair and start to towel dry it, kissing all over his face as an apology for 'hurting' him.

You both make quick work of drying his hair and moisturizing it, now sitting on your bed to have a quick smoke break. "You feeling better now, baby?" You ask Miles, guiding the blunt to your mouth with your beaded joint holder and inhaling, blowing the smoke in his face while he still pouted at you.

"You got some heavy ass hands."

"Keep playin', and Ima put these 'heavy ass hands' on you." You argue as you see him eyeing the blunt in your hand.

"You want some?"

"Mhm."

You smile as you take a hit and grab his jaw, pulling him into a sweet kiss and exhaling the smoke into his mouth. He smiles, sighing into the kiss. You put the blunt down on the ashtray sitting on top of your bedside table, stretching your arms as you spoke. "Aight, c'mon, big boy, I got somewhere to be later."

He eyed you as he put a pillow on the ground to sit on, obviously wanting to say something but deciding to bite his tongue. You try to move fast, sectioning his hair into four parts gently.

Dangerous by Meek Mill plays as you finish up his second to last braid, nodding your head to the song as you mumble the lyrics. "And when I'm in it, you be maxin' on a million... And when I hit it back to back, you make me still cum," you notice Miles smirking to himself in the floor-length mirror as you finish up his last braid.

"Miles. Don't even."

"I wasn't even gonna say anything!"

"I see that damn smirk. You ain't slick." You argue as you pop his shoulder lightly with the comb. "C'mon, get up. I gotta get dressed."

"Where you even going?" He questioned you, scratching his ass as he stood up and stretched.

"First of all, ew. Gross. Act like you got some damn sense while you at my house." You roll your eyes, walking to your drawer to grab your swimsuit and cover-up. "Me and my girls are going to have a drink at the beach."

"Any boys going?" He interrogated, walking over to see what you pulled out. "You not wearing that, right?"

"Uhmm, only one guy, [friend's name]'s boyfriend. And yes, I'm wearing this. I'm not finna argue with you about it either."

He pouted. "But-"

"But nothing, Miles, it's a beach. I'm gonna wear a bathing suit." you cut him off, walking over to him as you take your top off. "I know how to take care of myself. Now go somewhere, boy."

It was clear he wanted to argue about it more but decided against it. "Alright.. take some good pics for me, ok, ma? I'mma head out. Text me when you get back home. Love ya." He said, placing a loving kiss on your lips before stepping out your window. "And lock the window before you leave!"

"I will. Bye, baby." You shook your head, shutting the window and locking it after watching Miles step off your fire escape onto the pavement below, walking away as he turned around and blew you a kiss. Of course, you blew a kiss back.

And damn, did your back and arms hurt after all that.

And the kid didn't even say thank you.

* (rem)ember by boxwinebaddie. Ok we all knew I was gonna start the list w this one bc I am OBSESSED!!! Style holy shit! Crimson Dawn! Mentally unstable law student Kyle! RAVEN!!! The friendships and group dynamics! Rm lives rent free in my head dude plsplspls check it out!

* Painted In Shrouds by courtanie. Y’all want some Kysterion? This is one of my favorites! And NOBODY does Kenny like this author seriously. We got espionage! We got organized crime! We got overworked cfo Kyle! We got working together to take down the bad guys! We got blood and injuries and falling in love!

* Swansong by OrcaTimes. Fair warning this made me ugly cry. No one writes Craig like OrcaTimes YALL the Cryle destroyed me and doctor Craig always slays!!! It’s a beautiful story about love and grief, just GORGEOUS!!!

* Collector by cement_shoes. WHOLESOME STYLE ONESHOT!!! Them over the years, taking care of each other, Kyle handling bugs for Stan when he’s scared of them, growing up together and the trials of being human, but with someone always on your side. This one is SO sweet and gorgeously written, and a quick read too.

* A Ballad Of True Hearts by luckypoppies. Dude we all know I’m feral about SOT Style and THIS RIGHT HERE EATS!!!!! The history, the betrayal, the FANTASY VIOLENCE AND THERES THIS FIGHT SO FAR THAT SLAYS SO HARD! Being falsely accused of treason and subsequently exiled, tasked with escorting your prince to safety, GOD you just FEEL for the boys in this (plus we got them taking care of each other like yes yes gimme that fantasy whump) the world building is AWESOME I love sot AU’s and how different authors come up w the lore!

* Behind The Wall by Jwink85. Alright this one STARTS OUT nice, and is such an accurate representation of manipulative abusive relationships. Damien man holy shit. There’s so much going on in this, and the STAN PLOT OMG (yes style I love them) Kyle and Stan reconciling, Ike is my DISTRUSTING KING, high school angst, Tweek and Kyle friendship, Kenny being an icon, and I’ve said before but I love when Kyle’s written as generally wanting to see the good in people but still fiery in his own right, this is (a lot of jwinks stuff really that’s why I like their works so much) a great example of that!

* Simply Expandable by Kivea. YO WHO ORDERED THE MOB AU!!! Dude we got private investigator Craig, rival gangs, supernatural elements and mystery, conspiracy, fucking MOB BOSS KYLE?!?!? Kyle’s a bamf in this holy shit and bodyguard Stan, (this is Cryle btw and it’s fantastic) former k2, twenny, underground fighting rings, some KICKASS gang fights and the true antagonists bro the reveal was SICK! And when I say it’s a The Gangs All Here fic, I mean EVERYONE it’s wild and such a fun read it had me on the edge of my seat!

* And The Lightning Cracks The Sky by PastorCraigEnjoyer. Yeah yeah it’s cringe to rec your own shit sue me. But like Druid prince Kyle, Smokejumper Stan, forest fires, little mermaid but in the northern rockies ass plot, OVERLY PERCEPTIVE KENNY, mutual pining, magic, my beloved injury recovery (I gotta fuck Stan up ok) (I’m the worst)(giving Kyle chronic pain who me never) falling in love and saving each other’s lives, EVIL Cartman, I LOVED WRITING THIS ONE SO FUCKING MUCH it’s truly my baby.

* A quiet place (where I can scream how I love you) by sleep2thefr33zing. Coming of age style!!! So much emotional tension dude the pining is so fucking good, the first chapter is Stan’s perspective and the second one is Kyle and it’s BEAUTIFULLY PAINFUL WHEN THEYRE BOTH DOWN BAD BUT THINK THE OTHER ISNT!!! I love them being there for each other through all the bullshit of growing up, how resonant their falling outs are, it’s just so incredibly gorgeous and you really feel their emotions along with them.

* Knives by SparrowGrim. Ok so kyman isn’t my cup of tea but I’m putting it on the list bc some people do like it and this is an OBJECTIVELY FANTASTIC STORY!!! Tbh I only clicked bc I saw that it was Kyle centric (and that injury tag what can I say I eat that shit up) but I was HOOKED! Dark urbania, gangs running the streets, THE CODE NAMES SLAY SO HARD, we also got creek bunny stendy dip, the character relations are all so cool and the plot is WILD! Also Butters Kenny Stan and Craig are so badass jesus. Not even a ship I like but I loved the story.

* Peering Through Windows by Jwink85. C’mon I gotta have another jwink on the list and this one is SO. FUCKING. GOOD. K2 has been one of my favorites lately and THIS!!! We got dark cryle (my beloved) but when I say dark I mean CRAIG IS SO DEPRAVED!!! Like dude. But the story is THRILLING and artist Kenny is so kickass, Stan is a dad I literally cried over that small detail lmfao and I love jwinks Kyles and their idealistic nature (also I’m a sucker for any artist character) this story broke my heart and mended it again it’s incredible.

* Hunger Pains by Bellweather. Ain’t nobody doin Stan like bellweather MY SWEET PRECIOUS BOY UGH!!! The style is so great omg. The main four dynamic in this is wonderful, them trying to help Kyle through his ED (damn I really do read a lot of shit where Kyle’s suffering huh) all the characters are so well fleshed out and IKE I LOVE IKE IN THIS! The chapters have individual content warnings which is a great touch. Craig having prophetic dreams! Kenny dying multiple times! Chaos! Teenage camaraderie! There’s plenty of humor to make up for the dark shit but it DOES get dark. The mystery element in the beginning is really cool too I definitely have read this one multiple times.

* Find Somebody by hypercatt. STYLE!!! Stan-centric and so so so good, I love a platonic stendy team up too. some of the senior class goes “missing” and WHEN I TELL YALL I WAS so nervous that I read it out of order to make sure everything turned out okay lmao seriously this one had me WRITHING! There’s a gorgeous analogy throughout of physical hurts as a metaphor for mental illness and healing that just SPOKE TO MY SOUL!!! And there are so many beautiful moments, especially near the end, and the message of opening up and not running from your problems is beautifully written. Another one that occupies my brain lmao.

* To Have And To Hold by courtanie. Yes this is another one where Craig is SERIOUSLY DEPRAVED but hear me out!!! The plot, like I would DIE to adapt this to the screen, you feel like you’re watching a dark kidnapping race against time when reading this. And THE K2 IN THIS HOLY FUCK!!! Another one of my favorite Kennys ever and it’s so frustrating for the reader and the characters because WE ALL KNOW WHO TOOK KYLE BUT THE COPS ARENT DOING SHIT! The ending is unbelievably satisfying and the rest of the gang teaming up is so awesome STAN AND KENNY GOING FERAL OVERPROTECTIVE I live for that. But god the shit Kyle is subjected to, but he doesn’t lose that fire (Kyle ily sry)

* When The World Shakes, Hold Me by Bellweather & Blinkxs. The world building in this is PHENOMENAL!!! Post apocalyptic stuff, survival, STYLE!!! Some serious dark themes tho this is a heartbreaking read like damn check the tags frfr but the writing is MAGNETIC!

* -South Park- Style Sickfic/ Injury Fic Requests by AlwaysInSTYLE. Alright alright we all know I love my style hurt comfort and this is a request book/ oneshot series that’s JUST Stan and Kyle taking care of each other and I LOVE IT. you’d think it would get old but it DOES NOT. they’re not repetitive at all, and really fun reads! If you check it out, tell her PCE sent you we’re homies.

* Rookie Mistakes by espyonz. I love me some stenny and BRUH STANSTERION!!! Long oneshot that had me hooked. We got gentle hearted detective Stan who truly wants to protect and serve and is out of place in a corrupt police department. KENNY AS MYSTERION we know I love that shit, and he’s so awesome in this!!! The team up of Kenny Stan and Wendy to find missing people and uncover the truth behind their disappearances is AMAZING. We got Wendy as the tech girl which is SO slay (plus she and Heidi are together asjdhdks) and Kenny is hilarious in this, like he’s such a little shit and I adore this adaptation of his superhero persona. This one dropped LAST NIGHT and I’m so glad I didn’t make a red list post until now bc THIS NEEDED TO BE ON IT!!!

* Seven Candles by courtanie. Yep another one I’m tellin u, one of the best Kenny writers out there. So uhh Kyle in a Very Bad Situation again, like some of it was really tough to read. BUT!!! We got a war between heaven and hell!!! KENNY AS A FUCKING ARCHANGEL ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? (I live for courtanie’s overprotective kenny holy shit) this is legitimately my favorite Kenny interpretation IVE EVER READ HES SO FUCKING AWESOME!!! Plus we got satan being Done with Damien’s shit lmao and Kyle making friends with a hellhound which is fun. THE FINAL BATTLE WAS SO COOL TOO I LOST MY MIND!

* Why Remind Me by Kasen. One of the best style oneshots BRUH it’s so good with such a wholesome ending and the FEELINGS CONFESSIONS!!! The boys playing superhero, then later we got high school style and an accident that leads to a reminder of a kiss and UGH ITS SO CUTE!! Just- just read this one I love it sm.
