found out by sheer intuition; you were bummed that you didn't get to do a little surprise but he assured you that the news made him the happiest man alive and you sincerely believed him;

how exactly? that man knows his shit; you being groggy in the morning? not taking a sip of his beer when watching telly at night? he's got it figured out

doesn't really know how to prep but is too shy to ask you anything so you just find him passed out on the couch every now and then with his laptop glowing at him with "how to build a crib" or "baby sign language" when you can't even tell the baby's gender yet

it took you a week to convince him that you indeed can go to the bathroom alone

tries the more laid-back cravings and doesn't like them; never forgets to ask you about the latest one when you're grocery shopping

is occupied when you go and check for the gender of the baby; you call him from the parking lot with the news; you don't often hear Simon cry but he did that day

calls the baby bug and bezzie, mumbling at your stomach

looks up how to relieve pain with that tummy-lifting technique when your bump grows larger and larger

holds your hand and remains grounded for the entirety of the birth

becomes a very shallow sleeper; the baby stirs and he's at their feet looking over their tiny little body for any sign of distress

will go to the ends of the world to get you a pregnancy pillow, but only in the color he likes too

found out on accident; you didn't mind. he came into the bathroom to brush his teeth one morning and found you slouched by the wall, tears of joy in your eyes

you planned a little party and hid the test in a box to surprise him; it went perfectly, everyone cried

absolutely showers you with stuff he noticed on a shelf at a store that the baby wouldn't likely use until 12 or even 24 months old

"thought you'd like it" is the new most popular word in the household

you get don't touch a single piece of cleaning equipment or dirty dish in the house for nine months

goes with you to pregnant yoga classes to see how he can help you practice with you at home when the baby in your tummy grows bigger

gets the baby a little golden necklace; it's a gift in the family

you inherit SO MANY kids' clothes; you feel like you never have to buy a piece of diaper again; nor a blanket

you go through a list of old wives' tales about finding out the gender, but you end up waiting until the birth

he knows what he's doing or he's just a natural; birth never seemed so quick and easy with him by your side

Lets go

So night of the breakup, where he is being a prick and making excuses to leave you

He goes back inside after that line ‘if I could take back the days we spent together I would’

Oh you better believe that he is trying to justify all the cruel things he said

‘it was never going to work out’ ‘they deserve better’ ‘they were going to forget me anyways’

All this is happening whilst his heart and gut are doing somersaults

But he follows his stupid brain because of course he is right

Cant sleep that night, pulls an all nighter before he needs to call the taxi to take him to the airport

Try as he might, he cant get that sick feeling from his stomache

Doesn’t really eat for a few days, until he has to

Gets to Virginia, unpacks his bags and lo and behold

There is the souvenir you got him

He just sits on the bed holding onto it, numb

After a few moments of fighting with himself about what he should do, he puts the gift away

From prying eyes, from his own eyes

A treasure to be kept safe

But one to leave alone until maybe he is ready one day

And so start the flings once again

One night stands just so that he can rid his mind of you

Surely a 3 month summer romance shouldnt keep a hold onto his heart as much as it had

So he will do anything to shift it

So he focus on schooling, and being sociable, and dealing with his family

After a while, everything else takes precedence and you don’t occupy his thoughts as often anymore

He gets notifications that you sent a message, but he wont allow himself to read them

You will forget him, there is no point reading the messages, besides, they could be hurtful to him and gods he just doesn’t want to know the truth of what you feel for him

It could actually break his heart

A few years pass, our man can drink without issue now!

And maybe one night he has a bit much

Meets up with a pretty someone at a function, goes back to their place for a fling

But there is a problem

There is just something about them that reminds him of you

But no, that’s not possible so he pushes it out of his mind

That is until he inadvertently whispers your name

Mans goes from 100 to 0 real fucking quick

Apologizes, goes back to his place and just sits on his bed

He takes out his phone, considering to look at those messages you sent him time and time again, but he just cant

So instead he goes looking for your gift, and takes it out to look at once again

And the memories flood back to him, and he just quietly sits there and cries

Once he is done, he puts the gift on display, he doesn’t want to keep those memories hidden anymore

He hurt you, he knew he did but he cant help but be so grateful for the time he had with you, the fun and laughter and love he had during that time

He should at least keep those memories alive and not hide them away

That doesn’t mean he will go out of his way to make new friends, no sir

Twice now, he made friends with people, cared about these people, and hurt them with his antics

He cannot do that again

So he puts on the air of the professional fancy man, puts on the mask of the perfect gentlemen and finishes his schooling and starts his career

One that of course that doesn’t require him to make friends, just work acquaintances

Throughout uni, he was that really sociable, affable guy

Touch strange, very elegant but nice regardless

Some of the other students found him very attractive, some got to spend the night with him and experience the slight cold shoulder afterward

It was only for fun after all, and he made sure that they went into it with that knowledge

Was known for being a top tier student once again, but there just wasn’t a bad rumor circulating around him this time

Probably the most amount of peace he has had in a while, if lonely

Oh but his parents

Try as he might, some holidays he just couldn’t get out of seeing his parents, mainly because they wouldn’t spend it in Golden Grove and they would find a way to twist his arm about it

One such outing, his parents where their obnoxious selves and they finally said something that snapped that thin string of patience he had with them

Without raising his voice, he advised he wanted nothing further to do with them, he doesn’t hold the same ideals as they do and never wants to

Cuts all ties and removes himself from their funds, forcing himself to fend for himself and earn his way in the world

I think this was the first official time he was happy after all that he did in his life

The first time he did what HE wanted and what made HIM happy, he is just sad he didn’t do it sooner

And so a few years passes, he finishes uni, starts working at a company, and repeats the cycle of being affable enough for people to feel comfortable around, but put up walls to avoid having anyone get too close to him

Though Xavier has something to say about that and start to slowly chisel away at those walls of his

He picks up an event that needs to be prepped and completed in 5 days, a worthy challenge for him

But low and behold when he meets for dinner with the party, there you are, 5 years on

You look as beautiful as the day he walked away, and you walk with an air that would make anyone stand to attention

And your eyes meet, and all there is, is shock

He really hoped you would never meet again, not because he didn’t care but gods he cared too much

Seeing you again tore at him, it was like a waking nightmare, he didn’t want to hear what you had to say or what you really saw in him, he just wanted out

So he runs, like he ran 5 years ago and kept running

But this time, running just kept making him run back into you

also- i’m torn between having owen apologize for following in his moms footsteps and being an asshole to y/n or him just being completely silent around her for the rest of ever

“you’re not going to that party, y/n!” your mother yelled, following you through the house and stomping dramatically

it’d been a year since you’d finally cut her out, and clearly it hadn’t helped her hatred towards you. ellen had warned you she’d be here this weekend- since her parents were up to see the boys and she didn’t want to leave her sister out.

“i don’t remember that being your choice,” you mumbled, opening up the fridge and grabbing a water, turning and leaning against it while she seethed.

“you’ve ruined enough of the last year for your broth- for owen. i’m not letting you spoil tonight too,” you rolled your eyes and eyed trevor as he walked into the kitchen from the commotion.

he immediately turned around on a search for ellen, walking as fast as he could without it being running

“he knows i’m coming, he doesn’t care. i don’t know why you care so much,” you were trying your best to stay calm despite the panic brewing in your stomach

you didn’t want to fight, you didn’t have the energy to fight- you thought you’d seen the last of these scream matches last summer.

ellen walked into the kitchen with trevor quick behind her just in time to hear your mom start to yell again.

“god, you’re still such a brat! you can’t just stay home this one night so you don’t embarrass someone who’s meant to be your family? oh wait- you abandoned us because you couldn’t handle having rules!” she was frantic, pointing at you and her face red with anger

“i know you think you’re hot shit with your dumb as a doornail boyfriend and your new spoiled life, but you’re not. you’re still annoying, and you still don’t do anything for anyone and you’re still the same selfish kid i wished i’d never had.”

you opened your mouth to speak and you couldn’t will anything to come out. you just shook your head to yourself- hardly present in the conversation

“hey!” ellen grabbed the both of your attention and you gulped, trying to keep the tears back until you could make your exit

“if i’m not allowed to punish your kids, you can’t punish mine. if you ever talk to her like that again, then i’ll have owen down here for the fourth and you can just stay home. hell, henry can come if he wants. but you? stay the hell away from my daughter,”

ellen had blocked you with herself, your heart rate slowing down form your panic now that you didn’t have to come to your own defence.

“why don’t you go out on the boat with trevor, honey. i’m gonna have a talk with sylvia,” you only nodded, going over to trevor and sticking to him, wrapping your arms around his waist and tucking your head into his neck

“come on, let’s go outside, yeah?” he mumbled, cupping the back of your head and kissing your forehead before grabbing your hand and walking towards the patio door

you spend a while in the middle of the lake- boat off and anchored while you and trevor just held each other and you quietly cried

eventually- when you’d run out of tears, you’d decided you needed to get home so you could get ready for the party that night, and so did trevor

when you got back, sylvia’s car was gone but owen’s frat shoes were still at the door, and ellen was sat on the couch with a glass of wine

you pulled yourself from trevor and kneeled on the couch next to her, hugging onto her as soon as she put her glass down

“thank you.” you whispered, her hand moving to rub your back softly

Do ppl genuinely believe gaara has a crush on naruto? I thought it was a joke 😭 the jokes like gaara hating sasuke are funny but they're far from true considering in canon he cried for sasuke and tried to tell him to return. He told naruto later on that sasuke's not planning on coming back bc it was true, not bc he's jealous or some shit 💀 it was naruto who got upset at that and shoved his hand away, and also bc gaara made it clear that if in the war sasuke is on the enemy team then he won't hold back and will go for the kill. He's just another person who doesn't care about sasuke anymore which is why naruto got mad. To me only naruto and sasuke being romantically in love makes any sense, when ppl bring in not only gaara but even shikamaru, neji, Lee, sai it just seem like a joke bc wtf? Most of those ppl are pretty openly straight anyway. It seems like only sasunaru fans do this, they think every man around naruto wants him and is jealous of sasuke and sasuke's not a good bf but all of that is pure projection and stupidity and they act like incels when they treat naruto like some helpless girl with her Chad bf who should instead be with the nice guys. Anyway that went sorta off topic but yeah I don't think gaara's actually in love. Or if he is, he's not the jealous type bc I admit if he was a girl, even dudebros might see it with him. It's just that naruto has it part of his character that everyone worships him sooner or later. Whenever he changes someone they become his fan and act like he's God. Gaara, neji, shikamaru, pain, obito, tsunade. Sasuke's the only special one bc their relationship is actually different and special. But even for him sometimes some sns fans reduce him to a naruto worshipper in sns fics. Or they talk about the "i'm in naruto's world, I'm blessed to exist" quote that seems an awful lot like idol worship. I hate when they reduce sasuke and his relationship to naruto to that, that's hinata's job, to be naruto's personal slave, not sasuke. And if you remember this while analyzing gaara he just seems like yet another character that got reduced to a naruto dick sucker, that's all.

Gaara and Sai openly straight Nonee? xD I understand your points, but I do think you’re doing yourself a HUGE disservice if you think Gaara is just a... *checks* 👀... “Naruto dick sucker”...

... kinda falls short, no? Their bond is distinct, and categorizing it as similar to Naruto's other connections, especially when most are comrades at best. Villagers conditionally acknowledge Naruto because they see him as useful until he proves otherwise, and that includes the majority of his... friends. Naruto said it himself, he doesn’t trust them (I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THIS REGARDING 'HOPE' TBH I’LL FINISH THAT DRAFT SOON FINALLY LOL) This lack of trust is evident again during his fight with Kurama.

With Gaara, it is very uniquely a bond of their own regardless whether someone believes it is romantic or not and it doesn’t really have anything to do with Sasuke, so I’m not sure how to feel about a comparison?

However, Naruto's connection with Gaara does share some similarities with his bond with Sasuke; hurting for Gaara’s pain because he understood it as fellow Jinchuuriki, or hurting for Sasuke’s pain and burdens but going on a journey because he wanted to understand (‘we could’ve been in each other’s shoes, Sasuke’). These bonds also relate to the system itself, which is closely interlinked. Hence, Sasuke shouting at Naruto for not understanding in VotE1. But it's not the same thing, and that's perhaps one of the most significant differences between Naruto's bonds with Sasuke and Gaara, don't you think? The contrasting pain (regarding that understanding) he felt played a crucial role in his learning process. "I felt less pain when I escaped loneliness, but Gaara was lonelier for longer and Sasuke has to live with this burden... which is unbearable, what can I do?" Collaboration only becomes possible when you can truly understand one another. The same was seen during the Shinobi War when they had to unite as a single alliance. Gaara references this several times.

That understanding transcends national borders, and it's an integral part of Naruto's Ninja Way. It's also a way to demonstrate that mutual understanding could potentially unite the Nations, but that's a different topic. What remains consistent is Naruto's anger towards the entire system when it becomes personal and disregarding what is seen as 'appropriate Shinobi behavior'. (Lmao not those anti-Naruto post claiming Naruto was fine with everything altogether 😭 ffs, delete.)

Of course Naruto’s emotions played a huge part in him going feral. It was primarily triggered by Gaara's death, but even before that Kurama's Chakra was slipping through as he was learning about himself, Jinchuuriki and discovering new things that Konoha, and even Jiraiya, whom he trained with for years, had never shared with him. Our boy was seriously going through it, but this drive wasn’t just him showing Shonen Hero behavior to ‘stop the bad guys from gaining power’ or grieving a friends’ death at that moment even.

Naruto had every right to be furious. This is the same anger that says, 'If you Shinobi of the Leaf hadn't placed a monster in me,' and 'Did any of you even try to ask ME how I felt?!!' But, of course, Naruto repressed his anger and avoided empathizing with himself. However, this anger still simmers beneath the surface in the story. (Sakura's display of compassion for Naruto's situation after realizing he could die was a good moment tbh, I liked it even if Naruto shoved it aside. Kinda like he was saying they could never understand as Sasuke said to him, except Naruto sorta laughs it off and shows confidence instead. Anw, Sakura's best moments are in this arc, and it has nothing to do with the Sasori fight.)

But why doesn't Naruto express anger for himself?

Because, in this case, he carries a sense of guilt towards Gaara. He heard Gaara express how he desperately searched for a reason to live, feeling like a 'relic of the past that people wanted to get rid of'—unwanted and alone. This led Gaara to decide to care only for himself and kill everyone else. While Naruto could empathize with Gaara due to the shared pain stemming from similar situations, he also understood that their circumstances were entirely different at the time he met him. Naruto compared his own situation with Gaara's, stating that 'everyone' else had saved him from a dark and lonely hell, lumping the village together to contrast it with Gaara, who had no one still.

Naruto eventually said that Iruka and Sasuke were the ones who truly saved him after learning about different types of bonds and gaining a better understanding. However, the idea of being supported by so many people, (conditional or not) in contrast to Gaara, tore Naruto apart because he knows how unbearable it is to live that way. The Gaara he encountered during the exams represented Naruto's greatest fear for himself, and he began to feel guilty for having people around him, or even those who 'worship' him, as he felt it was unfair to Gaara. Despite his repressed emotions, Itachi's 'fear-inspiring Genjutsu' exposed Naruto's feelings and fears.

Naruto's efforts didn't just lead to a strong friendship; they also provided Gaara with hope. In this story, 'Hope' is perhaps the most important theme, a reason to live that is much more bearable. I wouldn't reduce all of this to Gaara merely 'worshipping' Naruto. Such analysis seems to miss the nuances of their complex bond regardless.

Naruto's sharing of joy also reflects his 'mysterious power.' He had mixed feelings about seeing Gaara advance so quickly as Kazekage but also genuinely felt happy for him. I genuinely believe that dismissing the Naruto-Gaara dynamic as mere 'worship' overlooks the significant impact Naruto had on Gaara and those around them. Which was extremely important to the story itself. I love the bond between Naruto and Gaara, but acknowledge it really isn't the same as the one with Sasuke. But considering their relationship, it's not surprising that Gaara might have a little crush on Naruto. However, it's not essential to insist on finding canonical evidence for this imo. While it's a plausible interpretation, I don't think that Gaara's feelings for Naruto are taken too seriously by most fans? Furthermore, Gaara's seeming 'pettiness' regarding Sasuke or Naruto's prioritization of him above others is not something anyone understood. The general consensus "for Naruto's sake" was that “Sasuke causes Naruto pain” (more like, Sasuke’s pain hurts Naruto because he loves him) so of course, Gaara's feelings were conflicted by his duty (getting rid of a 'criminal') and his friendship with Naruto (who will fight against such Shinobi duties because feelings are involved and they'll never be able to truly become emotionless tools-). Sasuke had attacked the summit after all, usually an immediate death sentence regardless of reason. Gaara is Naruto’s friend, it would be weird if he didn’t want to protect Naruto in return even against Sasuke, it's just that Naruto didn't see it the same way as everyone around him. THAT is frustrating!! Remember he told Naruto to really think about his friendship with Sasuke and what it meant? 👀 Like, "Naruto, you really want to do this? We are friends too, yeah? Doesn’t he cause you pain? Look at you... think about this carefully, kinda sus tbh. What’s this meaaann? I give my life for you, I will fight for you but what we do now huh?" Etc-

In the end, Naruto is the protagonist of a Shonen story, serving as a measuring device to gauge the significance of events in the narrative. (This role is largely shared with Sasuke though). Naruto provides the reference point for understanding the story's relationships. The core message, typically related to positive change as defined by Naruto/the main character, is a fundamental aspect of these stories. What truly matters is why something is significant in the story and what it means to the characters. His bond with Gaara a huge part of it. And to a degree the others as well because that's kind of the point.... And it's not for nothing we haven't seen the same development with the villagers as a whole because it wasn't important to the story.... yet. (Should've been solved before he became Hokage though 😂 "Naruto-the-village-is-family-I-guess-cuz-former-hokage-said-so-Uzumaki." Bro.)

UGH! 😓 This stupid non-canon quote. Did everyone forget who wrote this novel about Sasuke 'atoning for his sins'??? 😭 SPOILER: NOT KISHIMOTO. (Kinda want to read it though to fact-check some things.) There might be some truth in the words now that I have spent many months thinking about the blank period... but so does Naruto not want to live without Sasuke. As much as their world includes the other, they are still their own characters with their own goals in a Shinobi world with a system that would never allow them to truly live in each others' worlds fully anyway gerigjekrg3rhiqjkhmregqerigkjqrg;-; ok bye.

Dreams, Alternate Realities, and Agency

In Mulder's dreams or nightmares-come-to-life, he is stripped of his agency: "I had one chance," he grieves in Herrenvolk, "and I let it slip away." His obsessive pursuit for answers is directly correlated to his helplessness during his sister's abduction; and continues to haunt him as he battles against the Consortium.

"She's crying out for help-- but I can't help her. I can't move."

"I dreamt I was swimming this pool, and I could see my father underwater. But when I dove down, the water stung my eyes.... And I had to leave. I couldn't find my father."

"I'm beginning to wonder if... if that ever even happened."

"Well, I've often felt that dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask."

"We do what we can to battle the evil that would otherwise destroy us. But if a man's character is his faith, this fight is not a choice, but a calling."

"At times, I almost dream."

"Fox, help me! Help me!"

"Mulder, make her stop. I can't help myself."

"You have to help me! You have to get me out of here! Please! You have to help me. Help me-- please help me."

"...the deja vu phenomenon could be repressed memories escaping the unconscious that represents the desire to, uh, have a second chance."

His quest, his fight, is why he can't stop and live "a normal life"-- not until that part of himself is reclaimed.

It's why moments where Mulder actively chooses to "remain with you" (via The Blessing Way and Amor Fati) are so important to his character: he can choose, often aided by Scully's belief in him.

Scully is a pivotal piece to his life because Mulder depends on her capability and support-- to take care of herself and to trust in him-- in order to do his work; but more specifically, to soothe his own worries that he'll fail her, too (which is why he kept nearly falling apart whenever she was in danger.) And he continually rewards that faith by accomplishing Herculean tasks to get back to her side.

In Scully's dreams, she fails despite her agency. While Mulder is "called" to his mission, called to answer those questions that he can't escape even in his sleep, Scully is forced to confront them-- and herself-- when pulled in by prophecies, divinations, and cries for help.

It's why the events of Irresistible, Emily, and Orison hit her hard: they were, she considered, a self-fulfilling cycle of success and failure.

"I'll believe you... if you let me... let me talk to him."

"I'm fine, Mulder."

"There are hits and there are misses. And then there are misses."

"Well, see, it just makes me afraid.... Afraid that God is speaking... but that no one's listening."

"Facing a truth I can no longer deny. Alone, as ever."

"Mommy, let me go. Mommy, please, let me go."

"He cornered me today and told me my life's story. He was kind of frightening, actually."

"The only reason why you're alive is because I asked the judge for life!"

Mulder's quest makes her afraid: Scully is reminded of her human frailty, of the fallible nature of her beliefs, of the losses-- personally and professionally-- she takes because of the truth. Yet her partner's strength keeps her there: she leans on it when her father dies, when she is returned in a coma, when she battles cancer, and when she must confront any number of unexplainable realities on a daily basis.

Of course, dreams and nightmares and alternate realities are incapable of holding back Mulder or Scully for long; and the two find a way to keep fighting alongside each other, hoping to bring about a better, happier reality together.

Angel of God, My Guardian Dear Chapter 2: Reader

Story Summary: While speaking at a local school for visually impaired youth, Matt runs into his childhood best friend, with whom he lost touch almost 20 years prior.

Matthew Murdock -- Y/N's childhood best friend, the boy she had never stopped loving since the moment she had realized what the butterflies in her stomach when she was around him were being caused by, the one person in the whole world that she had never wanted to live without but had been unwillingly forced to do so for the past 19 years -- was not only sitting on her sofa, but also reciprocated Y/N's feelings that she had carried for so long.

Y/N had honestly forgotten about the contents of that last letter she had written to Matt -- she had written it as a means of catharsis during a bout of self-pity fueled by her breakup with Alex and had only vaguely remembered writing Matt a goodbye letter when she had awoken the next morning, all cried out over the loss of not only her relationship, but also the renewed pain of never knowing what possibly could have transpired between her and Matt, had Y/N been given the chance to tell him how she felt.

It had taken every ounce of courage she'd had to finish reading her letter out loud to Matt, and after she had finished and seen the stunned look on his face all she had wanted to do was to go crawl into a hole and hide for the next 19 years.

Instead she had picked up her drink and drank it as fast as she could, hoping the alcohol would numb the sting of rejection she had surely been about to face.

"You were in love with me?" Matt had asked.

Y/N had squeezed her eyes shut, not wanting to see the look of scorn or, worse, pity , that Matt's face was sure to have worn.

She had been about to get up and pour herself another shot of amaretto when Matt had gently taken her glass and set it on her coffee table, then took her hand in his. "Y/N? Please, angel, talk to me."

Y/N's eyes had snapped back open in surprise at the undisguised plea in Matt's tone. There had been no mistaking his expression, either -- there was hope written plainly on his face.

Fueled by liquid courage and her own tentative hope, Y/N had taken a deep breath and told Matt the truth, that she was still in love with him.

Her heart had leapt for joy when Matt had told her that he not only had, but also still reciprocated her feelings, then he had pulled the cross necklace she had given him right before she had left for Florida out from under his shirt. I've always kept you close to my heart.

A strange mix of happiness and anger had flooded her system and while she was still fighting the urge to march down to St. Agnes to give Sister Bernadette a piece of her mind, her anger had admittedly been somewhat abated when Matt had kissed her a few moments ago and asked her out to dinner for the following evening.

Matt was currently looking at her somewhat nervously. "So? What do you say, angel? Go on a date with me?"

Y/N nodded. "Of course, Matty. I'd love to."

Matt grinned. "What time do you usually get off work? I'm thinking maybe you can come to my place? I'll cook."

"I get off at 5, but I'll want to come home to shower and change first, so is 6:30 okay?"

Matt nodded. "Yeah, that's perfect."

"Okay, awesome."

Matt's expression grew serious. "There's something I should probably tell you though."

Y/N's brows furrowed. "Okay."

Her mind began to race. What the hell could he possibly be talking about? "You didn't lie about being married, did you?"

Matt's face twisted into confusion. "What? No, I've never even been engaged."

"Then are you in the mob? On the run from the law? Joined some sort of weird sex cult?"

Matt laughed. "None of the above, actually."

"Then what is it? Because I honestly don't know what could be worse than you being in a sex cult, except maybe if you're a serial killer or something. Oh my God, you're not a serial killer, are you?"

Matt shook his head. "No, angel, it's nothing like that. Quite the opposite, in fact."

He took a deep breath. "You've heard of Daredevil, right?"

"That vigilante dude?"

"Yeah. Well, you see -- the thing is…" Matt trailed off.

Suddenly the lightbulb in Y/N's head went off. "It's you."

"Yeah." Matt nodded. "I'm him. I'm Daredevil."

It honestly made sense once Y/N thought about it. She had known about Matt's heightened senses as a kid and his training sessions with Stick, and the fighting style had seemed familiar in the few grainy videos of Daredevil that Y/N had seen on the news. Thinking about it now though, she figured that deep down she had kind of always known that the Devil of Hell's Kitchen had to have been the same person that had taught her self-defense as a teenager.

She took a deep breath and nodded. "I can deal with that. Just… just don't do anything too reckless or stupid and get yourself killed though, okay? I just got you back, I can't lose you again."

Matt took her hand and raised it to his mouth for a kiss, visible relief on his face. "I'll try my best, I promise. Thank you for being so understanding."

"Thank you for still trusting me even after all these years." Y/N bit her lip. "Any other secrets you want to tell me?"

Matt shook his head with a smile. "Nope, the fact that I'm secretly a vigilante crime-fighter is the only big secret I got. Oh, no, wait-- there is one more. You remember Sister Maggie from the orphanage?"

"Oh, yeah, of course. She was always nice. I liked her."

"She's my mother."

"She's your -- you're kidding, right?"

Matt shrugged. "Afraid not."

"Oh my God."

"Yeah."

Y/N huffed out a breath. "Did you know that when we were kids?"

Matt shook his head. "No, I just found out fairly recently. Needless to say I wasn't too happy about it at first, but I've made peace with it now."

"Well that's good."

"She asked about you, you know."

Y/N was taken aback. "She did?"

Matt nodded. "Yeah, she asked me how you were doing and seemed genuinely surprised that we hadn't spoken since you left St. Agnes, especially considering we had always been pretty much attached at the hip as kids."

Y/N sighed. "I'm assuming she wasn't in on Sister Bernadette's plan to separate us then."

Matt grinned and shook his head. "Actually I'm pretty sure she thought we'd be married with a bunch of kids by now."

Y/N huffed out a laugh. "Sister Maggie's your mom. Wow. Any other bombs you wanna drop?"

Matt shook his head. "Nope, that's all of them."

"Ok good, because I have a secret of my own."

Matt raised an eyebrow and grinned. "You're also secretly a crime-fighting vigilante?"

Y/N giggled. "No, nor am I actually married, running from the law, in the mob, or in a weird sex cult either. Oh, nor am I a serial killer, I promise."

"Then what is it?"

Y/N leaned in to whisper in Matt's ear. "You weren't the only hormonal teenager who occasionally had dirty thoughts about their best friend."

Matt hummed playfully, wrapping his arms around her. "Well now… Pot, meet kettle."

Y/N trailed a finger down Matt's torso. "I'll tell you about mine if you tell me about yours."

Matt smirked. "You really want to know what I would think about?"

Y/N nodded. "Mmhmm."

"Well, by the time my thoughts had gotten to that point I'd already been wanting to kiss you for years, so first off I would think about finally being able to know if your lips would taste like that coconut lip balm I always smelled on you."

Y/N licked her lips reflexively. "And did you think they would?"

"Mmhmm. I bet your lips would've tasted amazing , angel. Had to fight the urge to kiss you that last day just so I could find out once and for all."

Y/N swallowed. "What else would you think about?"

"I'd think about kissing your neck. I knew if I ever got the chance to feel your pulse fluttering under my lips that I would have to be extra careful not to leave any marks, although I'd want to so I could show everyone that you were mine."

Y/N sucked in a breath. Holy shit. She had never known that Matt had a possessive streak but Christ, that turned her on.

Matt licked his lips and smirked. "Oh, you like that, don't you, angel? You like the thought of me marking you up for everyone to see?"

Y/N huffed out a breathless laugh. "Sister Bernadette probably would've shipped me off to a convent overseas instead of my aunt's house in Florida had you ever given me a hickey, although I probably wouldn't have minded you leaving some in more… inconspicuous places."

"Oh really? Wanted to feel my mouth on you, sweetheart?"

God, yes. Y/N took a shaky breath and nodded. "I used to think about your lips a lot, Matty, used to think about -- about kissing you, be it sweet, innocent pecks or full-on makeout sessions leading to those aforementioned inconspicuous hickies."

"What else?"

"I also used to think about your hands. Wanted you to touch me, wondered what it would feel like to have those long fingers of yours tracing more than just my face."

Matt groaned. "I used to think about that too, what it'd feel like if I'd been allowed to touch you outside of the platonic cuddles and chaste hugs we used to share."

Y/N shivered with desire, the gruff tone in Matt's voice sending lightning straight to her core.

Matt made a vague gesture towards Y/N's face. "Speaking of me tracing your face though, may I? I'm still picturing teenage you and to be honest, it's kind of freaking me out -- all things considered."

Y/N chuckled. Matt had mapped out her face a couple of times as they were growing up, and she still remembered the look of concentration on his face as he had put together a mental picture of her. "Yeah, of course."

"Okay. Good. Great." Matt shifted to face Y/N more fully and tentatively reached out to touch her. "You ready?"

Y/N nodded and closed her eyes. "Yeah. Go for it."

She fought to not lean into Matt's touch as he took his time tracing her features, his fingertips slowly gliding over her forehead, eyes, cheeks, nose, lips, and finally jawline.

Y/N opened her eyes as Matt leaned back. "I know I got older, but do I still somewhat look like what you remember?"

Matt shook his head solemnly, his eyebrows furrowed in thought. "Actually… no."

Y/N blinked in surprise. " No ? Have I really changed that much?"

A smile spread on Matt's face. "You're even more beautiful now than you were back then."

Y/N huffed out a laugh even as her face heated. "Matthew."

Matt shrugged, his smile widening into a grin. "What? It's true."

Y/N shook her head fondly. "Actually as attractive as I thought you were when we were kids, I think you're even more handsome now."

Matt chuckled. "That's nice to hear."

Y/N licked her lips, the lust and alcohol coursing through her veins emboldening her. "Matty?"

"Yeah, angel?"

"Enough talking."

Matt grinned and cupped the sides of Y/N's neck with his hands, then pressed his lips to hers once more.

Y/N relaxed into Matt and willingly opened up to him as he deepened the kiss, the flavor of Matt himself even more intoxicating than the whiskey Y/N could taste on his tongue.

Matt slid one hand down to her waist and pulled her closer to him, his other hand sliding up to tangle in her hair.

Y/N pressed her hands to Matt's chest to stabilize herself, marveling at just how solid he was under her touch.

Matt groaned, trailing his lips down Y/N's jawline to her neck. "Used to dream about being with you like this, Y/N," he murmured against her skin. "Wanted you so much."

Y/N gasped as Matt placed a kiss just under her jawbone. "Wanted you too, Matt. Still do."

Matt let out a soft growl against her pulse point. "As much as I want to make love to you, the first time I take you to bed I want both of us to be clear-headed."

Y/N nodded. As much as she wanted Matt and as amazing as his five o'clock shadow felt scratching against her skin, she knew it wasn't a wise decision to jump into bed with him right then. "Yeah. Yeah, me too."

Matt sighed and nuzzled Y/N's neck before leaning back. "Actually, I should probably get going. It's getting late."

He pointed to the letters that were still on Y/N's coffee table. "May I have those?"

Y/N nodded again. "Yeah, of course."

They gathered the letters and put them back in the box, then stood.

Y/N wrapped her arms around Matt in a hug. "I'll see you tomorrow night?"

Matt nodded and pressed a kiss to Y/N's forehead. "Can't wait."

Y/N tilted her face up to him and smiled. "Me either."

Matt reached up and caressed Y/N's cheek with his thumb, then gave her a soft kiss on the lips. "I'm really happy I ran into you today. I've missed you."

Y/N nodded, her heart fluttering. "I've missed you too."

"Good night, angel."

"'Night, Matty."

Y/N let Matt out and locked the door behind him, then let out a happy sigh. Never had she imagined that her day would turn out like it did, but she couldn't have been happier that it had.

can I ask what it so inaccurate about Outlander? I ask in good faith it just always struck me as one of the more historically accurate shows

The topic of Scottish identity after 1689 through the Jacobite rebellions and then emigration from the Highlands and Islands to North Carolina was literally my master’s thesis topic lmao So I will try and keep this as brief as I humanly can when I quite literally wrote a book on it.

My primary issue with Outlander’s historical inaccuracies is my main issue with 99% of historic Scottish media,in that it grossly romanticized and subverts modern conceptions of nationality and patriotism on to people who did not think nor operate that way. Outlander is guilty of what nearly anything about the Jacobites does in that it totes them as Scottish nationalists and protectors of Gaelic culture against the forces of invading Anglicism. Media loves to portray them as Catholics,fierce Scottish patriots,and kilt wearing Highlanders fighting for their god given Celtic freedom.

The reality is far more complicated. Scots didn’t really conceive of themselves existing beyond the lens of British,even the Jacobite extremists. And by 1745 even Jacobites weren’t so much for the Stuarts and the ideal of Scottish separatism and individualism,nor were they majority Catholics,nor were they a bastion of Gaelic purity against the evils of the English Empire. The Scots were very much a part of the British Empire and were participants of its expansion,colonialism,and conceptions of identity. Scots did consider themselves to be Scottish,but also British,but also what county they were from,or what part of the highlands or islands. Of course the more remote you got the more distance and separation in how closely they considered themselves a part of Britain. There’s an account from a famous travel journal of a man visiting the Orkney islands like 7 years after William of Orange was on the throne,where the local islanders had no idea the Stuarts weren’t on the throne anymore and that rulership had changed. So of course place and key details of remoteness played a huge part in identity.

But the fact remains that even the Jacobites during this period weren’t like “I’m going to fight for Scottish independence from Britain and I love my motherland for my roots of Gaeldom and I’m going to wear my kilt as a symbol of my culture against the oppression of the English” *bagpipes plays* Many Scots did want separation and didn’t like the 1707 union,and yes after 1745 traditional highland culture was restricted. But we must also remember that even amongst Scottish separatists the Jacobites were considered extremists,and very few actually believed Charles should be king. Many simply wanted the separation of Scottish parliament,and for many others it was the same cries of unlawful taxation and oppression of a foreign king heard in the North American colonies only a couple decades later. The reality is that often that rebellion was born from political feuding,rather than cultural.

The romanticism comes from Walter Scott initially who in the early 1800s became famous for his romantic novels about the Scottish highlands and the Gaelic fight for freedom. Literally almost all of our modern conceptions of the 18th century Highlander comes from Scott and WOOL MILLS in LONDON in 1800 who invented the idea of clan tartans and the kilt as a symbol of Clan allegiance and Scottish nationalism. Identity in the 18th century was a murky and complicated thing,and the conceptions of Scottish and highland and specific clan affiliation and specific family houses were not necessarily in opposition to the conceptions of Britishness,nor was the idea of Anglicism conceived of being inherently bad or a corruption of Gaelic culture. Many hated the English sure,but the majority did not. The idea of protecting and revitalizing traditional Gaelic culture was a later invention,and while certainly many highlanders and islanders were proud of their culture and ways of life,those ways of life existed more from isolation and local evolution of identity and culture,rather than a universal highland and island conception of Scottishness or Gaelicness.

So in all,Outlander projects modern nationalism and romanticism on to the Scottish highlander. And yes they’re romance books,but the continuation of we as modern people projecting our own ideals and values to people in the past is a rampant issue for historians. It’s the same as our romanticism of the American Revolution and the complete false narrative of history that stems from that. The result is nearly an entire country who does not truly understand why our society exists as it does now. If you view the Jacobite rebellions or the American Revolution through a lens of brilliant patriots and nationalists fighting for their culture and freedom than there’s literally no way you can understand your own government or the history of your country accurately. Romanticism blinds the general public to the nuances and reality of history,and that reality grounds our political present and the current issues we all face.

Stayed up late last night to finish Final Fantasy XVI, got a wee bit overwhelmed but had some time today to process my fragile emotions ☺️

Ultimately it wasn’t quite as bad as I thought. In a surprising turn of events, the final act more than made up for such a terribly paced, tedious mid-game (in my opinion.) I do feel as though the final 5-10 hours are what the rest of the game was supposed to be like.

There’s only one deal-breaker for me in particular that’s really preventing me from seeing this a top-tier FF title (which I believe indicates the bigger problems of the game as a whole) and it’s a shame I feel they missed the mark so badly when what they gave us was so close to being truly great.

LATE-GAME SPOILERS AHOY…

JILL FUCKING WARRICK.

How badly they dropped the ball on this Queen, oh my fucking God.

I think it’s important to try keep some perspective that XVI is not an ensemble game like the other FFs before it, and I may be basing a lot of my disappointment on viewing Jill as a main character, when really this is the Clive show and they are not considered equal.

Jill had the potential to be one of the best FF women in the franchise, but sadly was nothing more than a side-character to carry along covergirl Clive’s story.

She has one of the most harrowing backstories making her one of the most hardened women protagonists we’ve seen in a FF game, but at the same time is still a warm and likeable character. The writers tried to explore 13 years worth of trauma and abuse within a single story chapter (which was one of the game’s highlights tbh) but you can tell overall they just didn’t know what to do with her. One moment she’s swearing bloody vengeance and running a man through with a sword like a stone-cold killer, then she’s right back to playing Clive’s doting sidekick.

I maybe expected too much in terms of the party system, but she spends over half the game out of commission - along with playing damsel in distress twice - which is a bit inexcusable to me since she’s one of the best fighters, never mind the fucking Dominant of Shiva (who was so utterly under-used don’t even get me started!)

This was actually one of my favourite FF romances as it felt like one of the most authentic, but at the same time it’s all from Clive’s POV.

Clive taking her Eikon really fucking rubbed me the wrong way with a feeling that I couldn’t quite explain. I was glad later on when Joshua called him out on this but then they just hand waved it all off like no big deal. They later tried to put some kind of closure on this in a 5 minute scene in an optional sidequest, but this whole part of the plot was just a disgrace for me.

I find the whole alpha-male genre really off-putting and the game repeatedly tries to tell us that Clive isn’t alone, but most the gameplay involves him putting characters on the sidelines unless the plot demands otherwise. The grand finale relies completely on this idea that Clive isn’t fighting alone, but the fact of it is that he doesn’t have allies he has followers.

Jill’s role in the ending was a complete shitshow but by that point I’d already accepted the fact that she was basically just a prop for the story. Making her stay behind, sobbing as her man goes off to war was a real fucking choice, and the finale was a total sausage fest (and not the good kind.) And then at the end she cries some more, cause this script was written by a bunch of men during the early 90s apparently. (Note: One of my all time fave FF characters is Yuna and her ending was so fucking heart-shattering and powerful, and pretty much the exact opposite of whatever this is.)

I think they had such an incredible foundation for what should have been one of the most complex and interesting characters in FF, but decided they didn’t really want to do that because it would take away from Clive and I think the game as a whole suffers for it.

There are so many problems with this game, let’s be honest, and I think the handling of Jill is one of the biggest red flags that something is just not right here.

Maybe if this wasn’t a Final Fantasy game then it wouldn’t be as much of an issue, but we’ve gone from ensemble casts of memorable and empowered characters, to one guy and his band of sidekicks and I don’t think it works for the series. Let’s leave the broody male protagonist tropes back in Games of Thrones season 8 where they belong.

I’m back and I got some Front Roe headcanons (I hope that’s not a problem and that it’s not annoying to have multiple weird infodumping about headcanons asks from the same person /gen) and also they’re mostly just speculating on the 3/4 members we know about after Squid Squad which oops uhhh have them anyways hahahaaa

As of Splatoon 3 Ichiya is 24, Namida, is 23 and Murasaki is 19, but Ichiya regularly gets mistaken for a teenager

Murasaki went to collage and learned music theory! Now he can actually read music and makes more complex drum noises! (idk what to call them)

He still cries when he gets super into his performances though (which is/was canon to his character during Squid Squad era)

I don’t have much to say about the unnamed calm person because we don’t know their name, species, what instrument they play, a general idea of their personality or how they ended up in the band, but despite all of that I think that they’re Murasakis collage friend.

I also think they could be a zigzag clam

Ichiya wasn’t able to find a new band and lived off of the money from royalty checks and he ended up falling off the radar (which he was not happy about)

I think that Ichiya took Squid Squad breaking up the hardest because despite his attitude he really did care about the band, but due to his general attitude of “make guitar riffs that look and sound cool without any idea of why they do” made the fact that he wasn’t by himself while making music integral, something he didn’t realize until he started trying to make original tracks alone.

I also like to think he tried to audition for SashiMori to which they said “we already had a domineering and stubborn vocalist last time we’re not doing this shit again”

Namida on the other hand is the only one who actually focused on her solo career and probably made extremely surreal and odd synth tracks for fun

I like to think that since it mentions that Namida “has some knowledge of jazz theory” that she’s friends with and/or a big fan of Ink Theory

Ichiya is trans he is wearing a binder in the Front Roe album cover trust me my uncle works at the Squid Research Lab. If you need any more convincing:

Okok my genuine crackpot theory is that in universe nobody knows that 3/4 members are members of Squid Squad.

None of the reveals for the band even mention it (the reveals are usually treated as an in universe thing)

Let's Rewind! Toast watches Voltron: Defender of The Universe (1984)

Season 1, Episode 15: Give Me Your Princess Season 1, Episode 16: Bridge Over The River Chozzerai

I'm attempting to do two episodes per post now! This will help me finish the show quicker and hopefully will make it more fun to watch

Episode 15 - Give Me Your Princess We start with Lotor quite literally asserting his dominance over his military as Commander, and immediately they're off to destroy Arus Also, this is where the obsession starts I guess, suddenly he's real interested in the princess

holy shit i cant believe he actually takes care of his hair

Oh we're already at this episode? Allura sneaks into black lion to learn to fly it in case of emergency, good plan but i always was annoyed that she thinks it HAS to be her when she's literally the most important person on the team, yknow being a princess and all

Ah yes a staple of the 80s "Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't do things boys can!" Obviously it was important for girls during that decade and it still is now but MAN is the way of showing girl power outdated as I'm watching this now more than 30 yrs later

Lion troubles, apparently Black lion is malfunctioning, but they try and fail to form Voltron as Lotor is actually competent LMAO Allura faints and black drops out of the sky

Lotor has a personal fighter, and it looks like a bat, how cool, Keith is currently trying to rip it apart since everyone thinks it's allura in blue and not him which makes lotor scram

Harem time, I guess that's why they pulled the sudden obsession this episode, all the harem girls are blonde and could easily be mistaken for Allura and the allura imagery all throughout this episode that I haven't been mentioning

hell yeah they're telling off allura for her sudden test drive of black and now her reason changes from "in case of emergency" to "if you go back to earth"

oh my god this just turned into a telenovela Especially with Keith guilt-tripping her by saying Sven wouldn't have almost cost them their lives, low blow keith

She tries to apologize to Keith but the words of the other 3 boys get to her and she walks off I'm actually kind of glad she takes their opinions seriously and isn't being relegated to "the leader's girl" also keith regrets being so harsh on her, even though he was right to reprimand her in general

Did nobody learn anything from the last time lotor was on arus and said he'd be willing to leave in peace? Allura he won't give up just because you give yourself to him, especially if he smacked keith in the face with a ROCK after he won their sword fight

Allura literally busts through the tower lotor left on arus and gives herself up, and then faints (again) because Lotor electrocuted the lion, I don't blame her for that one The boys go rescue her and i think i missed something because keith is hurt? He did go after the princess outside his lion so maybe he got shot and i missed it, anyway he's ass at flying and allura is protecting him in turn now

No robeast this episode, but voltron is still formed and takes down the rest of the spires that lotor left behind, plus a giant laser weapon Allura and Lance carry Keith in, apparently he was cut by lotors laser sword, go figure Nanny doesn't care, as per usual, but goes to get stuff for Keith once Allura tells her to

Everyone forgives each other, Allura apologizes for stealing black without permission and the boys apologize for being so rude when she just wanted to do some good, Allura cries (for like the third time) in joy after being told she's wanted to be kept on the team, so she shouldn't doubt it

Episode 16: Bridge Over The River Chozzerai Apparently the kingdom Allura rules over is called Altair and another nearby kingdom is called Helena. They have a running legend together about two lovers who were each a part of one of the kingdoms, but it was a romeo and juliette esq romance because the kingdoms were enemies, so they built a bridge between the vliff that separated them to finally be together the princess is playing one of the lovers, while she wants one of the boys to play the other

The boys minus Keith are fighting over the part, Keith ain't no simp and especially not one for Allura LMAO Keith "No, Thanks" Kogane is a mood, I wouldn't want to go out to a bridge ceremony either

Hunk wins because Pidge tries to get the mice to help him cheat at a card draw, and they purposefully mess him up Now they have more beef lol

What a cute dress, I wonder if this is a historical reenactment or actual fashion on Arus

Haggar's cat exists once again and sends word that Allura and Hunk are away from castle. Lotor starts heading to Arus, specifically for Allura ofc, and interrupts the two right before they embrace on the bridge Now there's a robeast and it splits the bridge in two while Lotor shoots the cliff where the bridge hangs, causing it to fall. Somehow Allura is on the unsunken parts of the bridge and Lotor takes the change to try and snatch her before Hunk comes from behind and starts fucking SWINGING Very iconic of him, I'd feel safer if Hunk was protecting me in danger

The other boys are on their way, but Hunk slips off the bridge and is hanging on for his life as lotor gets pushed away by Allura who then gets smacked into the water Lotor comes back around for her in his jet until yellow line smacks him from behind, how the FUCK did Hunk get there so fast, and nanny since shes SOMEHOW IN THERE TOO

Lotor strikes back, and they crash into the cliff while the boys are stuck fighting a robeast at the castle, so they can't go help him Allura swims to safety anyway and runs to blue only to find lotor already there, honestly very smart of him since she's guaranteed to return to blue

HELLO?? Lotor tried grabbing her even though she had a gun, girl should've pulled the trigger, but only tears her dress so instead she runs towards blue AND POINTS THE BLASTER AT HER HEAD Damn, I really need to watch beastking golion if we get stuff like this in the censored American version

Anyway he tried to get the gun away but literally trips giving her time to shoot at his feet, so he back-ups enough for her to get into blue, smart girl Hunk and nanny are still at the cliff since yellow isn't responding well, so she basically piggybacks yellow onto blue to get back to the castle as lotor is shooting at them, that's a very weird position but ok

Keith can apparently take control over yellow when they're in voltron? I'm taking that as, since he's the center, having the ability to work with all 5 lions to coordinate movement, but not actually control the limb as that's up to the pilot in it

Voltron is formed, maybe it has a strong magnetic pull that brought yellow lion in even though it couldn't fly, also voltron has a whole other sword, that's interesting to know Blazing sword takes out the elephant tank hybrid robeast and now Yellow is getting repaired, it looks like it's being done inside it's den so that's good to know for world building

Hunk questions why Allura didn't kiss Lotor on the bridge since the legend was about uniting two lands but Allura is grossed out and says it's about people in love and that not even his father could love lotor get his ass princess

she was right lol, zarkon's PISSED and tells him to stop thinking with the head in his pants and start thinking with the head on his shoulders to defeat voltron

Every time I relapse, I write a letter to someone who will never read it until after I'm dead.

If they ever find it at all, that is. Like a pathetic string of words swallowed into the guts of a ghost. Sometimes I hope a fire would somehow kindle near and I'd lose all those sluggish hours spent hunched under a lamplight to the flames, so one would ever have to read in ink about how much I've truly suffered in my life. But then, at other times I pray to any God that might still be willing to forgive me that the recipients, you, do find my words prematurely, while I'm still alive and intact and probably lounged in your living room, so I could finally get the help I've too much pride and arrogance to ask for myself. Don't know which scenario I'd prefer best just yet, but I do know that either way someone else will have to suffer as well, because of me. Because I'd been so selfish, all my life. Because I never wanted redemption as much as they wanted it for me. Are you someone who'll know me well enough to remember that I would hate it if you cried for me?

You are, because tonight I'm writing to you, pops. Y'know, it's been four months since I'd last been here, in this filthy, black fucking gutter. I somehow remember the sober tidbits in between, and that I'd dedicated my last letter to Yejin, my noona who's grin you adored so much. I'd written it over the long course of a week, and I recall writing many unfair accusations at first, about being destructive as I was then because she'd broken my fucking heart. But I'd ended up scrapping most of it after a few days of coming back to, as none of it was true and she would hate me more in my death than she ever has when I'd been alive. Later, I'd realized that I just wanted forgiveness and through that, I'd learned what to take with me into my next relapse. This time around, this grace I offer to you–as most of them have been, frankly. Hopefully, I don't cross any lines you wouldn't want me to take with me to my grave. You're not stupid and know I'm lying through my teeth—I'm not the best liar when I'm high, but why haven't you been reacting to it as you used to anymore? The hardest thing for me to do has always been to lie to you, to tell you that I'm completely fine with two burning nostrils, so how could you nod and let me get away with it now? I don't get it. I really don't get it, but you seem happy to do it anyway, as if letting me off is the only thing that could save me. Maybe letting me go is the only way I could be saved. I'd just have to want it more than I do now. It's not easy to want anything good when all I can think of is retracting my steps. Of going back to when I truly felt purpose, to when I hadn't the need to save myself because it was easier to believe I couldn't be. Why is this so hard, dad? Tell me some day, how you did it. I would gladly sit by you and listen, as I've done from the beginning. And then, if you can still see, hear and touch me, I'll tell you after, how I did it, too.

We're out for dinner and you're across from me, and I wonder if you've ever regretted opening up to your kid son. If you've ever wished you'd never glamorized torture, and blood and despair, to the point where I'd grown into it myself. Maybe it was intentional all along, because you wanted us to go together the same way, like we'd started together. Just you and me in hell on earth. But I don't know, maybe I'm pointing fingers and may scrap this some days later. It's just that for some reason, although you tell me any and everything under the moon, you've never told me this. Forgive me for assuming. I smile when you tell me you genuinely like my hair–that it's never looked better. It hasn't, I agree, and then I get up for a bathroom break. You're the only one who'll always remember the queasy feeling of knowing precisely what I'd actually done in there after the flush. Help my son, you don't say, he's destroying his life.

YOU THOUGHT HE WAS HEARTLESS??? dude cares SO much hes been consistently trying to stop a war and find his sister and stuff??? jkdashkj (also it was just very dramatic and Cool and made me laugh bc he was SO serious and straight faced during the whole thing. nerves of STEEL)

-'i wonder if kurosaki is a lot like crow'….theyre both bird boys. theyre uniting to be bird FRIENDS and FIST BUMPED OVER IT WHY AM I TEARING UP. SHUN LOST WITH A SMILE TOO….im glad theyre friends and birds and birdfriends. even jack smiled over crow winning AAAUGH. STOPPP. too cute. didnt expect this ep to be so WHOLESOME

-the subs said smth like 'youre one of us' when they were through speaking (which is lovely bc they have a solidarity in that they both have causes theyre fighting for) but the more literal translation of what was said was closer to 'you're one of my/our friends now' from crow. Augh. AUGGH. ;_;

my god the sora meeting up with yuzu then their monsters working together (in an ADORABLE dance sequence) was THEE best thing ever like 2 eps in a row have been BANGERS and making me unlock new emotions. I love both of their decks SO much too????

screenshots that made me bawl my eyes out tbh. like I literally, actually cried a little JKADSHKFJ sora has FRIENDS for the first time and he LOVES THEM and they TRUST HIM he found the best friends ever and its SO tender. this is why I watch ygo btw. sobbing in the club rn.
