Theoi Info Sheets Series Part 1: Hestia
O Hestia Virgin Goddess of the Eternal Flame Great Thea of the Hearth and Home If I Have Ever Felt the Warmth of a Fire Or the Comfort of Candle Flame I Ask That You Hear Me Now I Offer You First Praise and Acknowledgement Oh Great Goddess May You Accept this Offering, and Act of Devotion Du Et Des
Tumblr media
Hestia is the first of the Theoi I ever gave offerings to, and the first of the Theoi I ever owned a statue of.
As a queer person, 'hearth and home' have often been a bittersweet concept for me. The house where I lived for most of my childhood was sold when I was 13, when we moved back into the house I was born in. That house, the house I always considered home, was then sold a couple of years ago. I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye as I had already cut ties with my biological family at that point (yet another reason why hearth and home are bittersweet for me).
Over the past 5 years I have lived in three different houses, but none of them have felt like "home". Instead - home has, for me, become a feeling. The feeling I get when my partner returns from work, the joy I experience with our pets, the laughter that comes even when the world around us is crumbling.
This is what Hestia is, not the walls or the foundation or even the land surrounding the two, but the feeling of family. The feeling of loving and being loved by those who you choose to value and value you in return.
Oh Hestia, Goddess of Hearth and Home Lead My Way and Light My Path

Hi! I just wanted to show some of my shrines I’ve dedicated to my deities! (Hestia has her own shelf, but I need to clean it [and I also wanna remake it] so I won’t show it yet :])

Thank You to all who voted! More God and Goddesses Designs are coming very soon! However, I wanted to get this small, rough comic out there. Now, excuse me. I got to help Demeter hold off Juno Hera from attacking Vesta Hestia!

Today, for the Legendary Challenge, Drawings 7 and 8, we got Demeter Ceres and Vesta Hestia.
To those who are still Frozen fans or not, let's all agree that the movie Frozen is a modern retelling of the Persephone story with some details changed here and there. Yes, I gave Demeter Ceres the Elsa look treatment but maintained the story art style. I discovered that someone made a fantastic mascarade dress of Demeter, and one of the pictures used for the project was an 1811 evening dress that got my imagination to go wild. But still, I made sure Demeter's dress was simple enough to wear while gardening or harvesting. I also took massive inspiration from the ancient depictions of Demeter Ceres from ancient art and statues like this one surviving statue with a crown. In this version of the tale, despite being a bit of a helicopter mom, she's a really nice goddess. Even the world's best grandma, according to some who have met her.
Vesta Hestia still looks the same as she did in ancient times, as always, like one famous statue of hers. Pose and all! Though she has the power to spark fire in the palms of her hands. Before the historians criticized me for replacing the ribbons with a crown on her head, let's say her hair is made of fire. I'm still working on the hair design behind the scenes to make sure I don't copy anyone else's design. Let's say Punderworld's version of Hestia got me thinking.
This may not be their final design, but I'll keep them like this for now. What I can confirm is that both ladies will play significant roles in the story. If anyone notices something about one of their designs that looks different, let's say I have secrets I can't reveal. Now it's Hermes' turn to shine!

Spell for Securing a Home/Property Purchase
My partner and I recently put an offer on a house and are anxiously awaiting a response, so I thought we’d do some spellwork to make us feel better help out our situation.
This spell works primarily with Lady Hestia of the Hellenic Pantheon, Goddess of the Hearth and Home.
Ingredients/utensils:
Property & real estate agent’s details
Photo of who will live in the home
Pen & paper
Lighter or matches
Fire-safe bowl
Two red candles
Wine, wineglasses, & bottle opener
Small cake/pastry
Incense
Coin
Whole cloves
Honey
Instructions:
Light the incense and use the smoke to cleanse the space & ingredients/utensils. Place the photo of you/your family between the bowl and one of the candles. Place the offerings around the bowl.
Title the paper “Our/My Home” and list features you desire for the house and property, including how it makes you feel, the price range, and how easy it is to find. Feel the excitement of finding your dream home, one that hits every detail on the list. Fold it toward you once and write the address of your desired property and the agent’s details, then fold it toward you again. Express gratitude for the house as if you already live in it and place the folded paper in the bowl. Sprinkle cloves around the paper to serve as amplification and an offering.
Evoke the Goddess:  “I welcome Lady Hestia, gracious goddess of the hearth, keeper of the sacred flame, first and last born of the deathless children of fearful Kronos and compassionate Rhea. In ancient times, eternal fair maiden, all first offerings went to you, so great is your power and so great the need for your blessing. You are the soul of every home, the endless tender of Olympus’ flame, friend of those who kindle their own hearth-fire, guardian and defender of the household. Welcome, great goddess Hestia.”
Set the offerings in the bowl as you continue: “Beautiful goddess, I offer this libation to you. With incense, I honor your sacred flame and the air it needs to breathe. With a coin, I present a gift made of the riches found deep in the Earth. With honey and wine, I call to mind the water that sustains life, as well as the bounty of a homestead. Finally, I offer this cake that we might break bread together and share in your blessings. Lady Hestia, lighter and keeper of the sacred flames, I honor and praise you.”
Light one of the candles and place it in the bowl, then continue: “Radiant goddess, I humbly ask your favor this day. Bring this home to us swiftly. Keep it for us and only us. By your powers of sustenance and safety, please unite us with this property easily and divinely, and we will live in our home happily. Shed your hallowed light unto it that it may be ours alone. Verdant Queen, bless us with warmth so that we may always dance around your fiery throne and worship you at our hearth.”
Pour a glass of wine for everyone present and continue: “I honor you, Hestia Prytaneia of the sacred hearth. I express gratitude for your blessing, for the beauty and love you share, and for you, Lady Hestia. Be ever welcome in our home, oh goddess; be ever present in our hearts. Thank you and blessed be.”
Drink the wine and enjoy some cake while watching the candle burn down completely. Say to it: “Thank you, light, for entering [address] that it might be ours instantly and easily.” Meditate on the home you want. Picture yourself in it, the things you’ll do in it, and the way your life will change. If you are performing the spell with someone else, talk about it together; you are more than the sum of your parts. Finish the wine.
Move the offerings from the bowl to the empty wine bottle, along with the folded paper, excluding the coin and photo. Replace the top of the bottle, then light the other candle. Use the melted wax to seal the bottle. Place the coin and photo in your wallet.
Give thanks to the elements, your utensils, the new property/its realtor, your current home, your family, and yourself. Take time to clean, ground yourself, and rest.
Bury the sealed bottle by the front door of your home once you move in. Give thanks again to all spirits that aided you on your journey.
Notes:
If you don’t finish the wine, you can simply leave the bottle partially full when you add the offerings to it and seal it. My partner and I chose to finish it while we talked, but it’s up to you. Regardless, it won’t affect the spellwork.
We chose to use two different kinds of candles: a birthday candle to burn down in the bowl and a larger candle in a glass container for sealing the bottle.
Please exercise safety while working with fire and alcohol at the same time; the spell is useless if you use it to commit arson.
Wine can be substituted with cranberry or cherry juice, red sparkling juice, or another similar option of your choice. The intention is the most important aspect of the offering.
If you have any questions, please ask. This is my first time sharing a spell online, but I spent quite a bit of time and energy researching, creating, and performing it, so I thought I’d share it here for anyone interested. Best of luck out there, heathens. Blessed be.
