So I was watching ATSV for the fifth time and I noticed a very interesting detail in the background of the panning shot when Miles is on the rooftop of Earth 42.
Tumblr media
Right there in the top left, there's an incredibly prominent 8.
Now, I'm probably grasping at straws here, but I have a feeling that it wasn't placed there for no reason, since the reoccurrence of the number 42 ended up being important (it, for example, shows up as the lottery number that wins Miles a spot in Visions, on his shirt, and is also created by debris after Miles's 'failed' leap of faith in the first movie, where he breaks the goober).
So assuming I'm right and this number is, in fact, significant in some way, my next thought (obviously) was to wonder what it might just be. Initially I couldn't think of anything that significant (a spider has eight legs/eyes? The squad that's off to rescue Miles is composed of eight people?)
...and then I remembered about earth-8.
In case you don't know what it is, it's a universe in the comics (which I have never read) where Miles and Gwen are married and have children, so obviously I instantly latched onto this interpretation because my brainrot is near-terminal.
If (and this is a big if) my interpretation is correct, this might be foreshadowing for the next movie: seeing as it's been confirmed that we'll be seeing Gwen variants in Beyond I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that we'll be seeing Earth-8 next movie...

There's something odd about CX-2...
He is the only Clone X operative who uses the word "I" and he uses it a lot. It seems rather strange to me that he uses the personal pronoun when his identity has been erased. The other Clone-X types we've met stared blankly when asked who they were, their names, as if the whole concept did not compute. Perhaps the erasure and conditioning were not entirely effective on CX-2; perhaps this particular clone was defective to start with.

When is it going to be The Secret History's turn to get adapted? When will I hear "Beauty is terror" and "Cubitum eamus" and "Forgive me for all the things I've done but mostly for the ones I did not" out loud in a theatre? When will I sit there and smile when I see all my favorite characters in one scene together? When will I get to laugh at Bunny's funeral scene? When, Donna, when?

Theory/Speculation:
So in the comics it’s never blatantly stated what Medic initially sold his soul for. All we have are a couple panels and some speech bubbles.
“You probably would have ended up here anyway. I feel silly that we even bothered with a contract.”
This implies:
-Satan wouldn’t have made a contract with a soul he would have likely already owned.
-Medic sold his soul before he started unethical practices.
Tumblr media
“If you were to send me back to Earth for ANOTHER fifty years.
“Another” as in additional. Which could be interpreted as he has done this before. (I’m aware it’s a stretch but I have nothing else to work with.)
Medic surgically added more souls to himself as a loophole to his contract. Whether they were from Team Fortress or Team Classic isn’t super clear either, but the timeframe is still plausible since Medic worked for Team Fortress for about four years. If he only had fifty years and was reaching the end of his contract near the events of Team Fortress, it would make sense for him to be pressured to have his backup plan.
-I assume Medic is fifty because he doesn’t look 60-70, but then again I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy found some anti-aging solution.
-This would put his birth year at 1922 and he would be around 46 when the events of the game start. (We get Scout’s age and he visits God, so why not continue the parallel?)
-My speculation is that Medic sold his soul as insurance so he could live until at least fifty (which is plausible due to historical events.) Unholy intervention wasn’t needed in the end, so Satan thought he got the better deal until Medic started racking up sin points.
When I look around for what people think Medic sold his soul for, it is usually knowledge for his invention. I wanted to add another option into the collection and I think it complements Medic’s main inventions: the Medigun and the Reanimator. Two devices made to cheat death.

Hi. I'm feeling unbelievably tender about the fact that cats purr? Like how incredible is purring as a concept?? This little creature that I have allied myself with, though we do not speak each others languages, has learned to make a sound that not ONLY specifically communicates feeling safe and loved but ALSO vibrates at the correct Hz to heal broken bones?? Like what kinda fey pact is that. Why are we not talking about this more.

OK something that's been on my mind is that there's like 2 jokes where the Devil is ranting about taking Cuphead's soul in "Release the Demons!" but at the same time, he mentions that he wants to eat it.
Tumblr media
So that's the first mention of it when he's talking to the 2nd finest demons.
Then later in the same episode, it's revealed that Stickler has the invisible impenetrable sweater on.
This leads to the Devil raging that he can't obliterate him right then and there. But then, he says he'll eat his soul.
Tumblr media
This has led me to think about a couple of questions:
Can the Devil actually eat souls, or is he just saying that out of pure rage and it's just there to be a joke?
Since he shouted to Stickler that he'll eat his soul, does that mean that demons have a soul too?
But that 2nd question falls apart when you realize that when he incinerated the 1st and 2nd finest demons, they just became dust and ceased to exist.
Tumblr media
So either way, this leads to the question of WHY does the Devil actually collect souls?
Like what the hell is up with collecting souls? (Pun intended)
If he can eat them, does that mean he collects Inkwell Isles citizens souls for a sadistic fun kick of it but if he gets hungry, he eats a select few?
OR does he need souls to keep him powerful?
Like the more souls he has, the more powerful he gets (which may or may not be obtained by eating them?)
Or is he just losing it and becoming so obsessed with getting Cuphead's soul that he's willing to go through any length to get it (which may include it eating it out in front of him?)
I'm just saying there's a lot of implications here.
Now with the ending that the Devil has kidnapped Mugman, will the fate of the souls he collects be revealed in the next addition of episodes?
I kinda hope so.
I would personally like to see what happens to them. Is it as twisted as we think? We know that there's a soul vault but what happens in the soul vault?
I think I may be overanalyzing again.
