"The Biden administration's ongoing support for Israel's genocidal policies implicates it directly in the relentless targeting and massacring of journalists in Gaza, including hundreds of our colleagues and their families."

Palestinian journalists this week issued an appeal to their U.S. counterparts urging them to boycott the April 27 White House Correspondents' Association dinner over the Biden administration's complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza.

"In the past six months alone, the Israeli military has executed over 125 Palestinian journalists in Gaza—10% of Gaza's community of journalists," notes the appeal, which is being organized with the help of Adalah Justice Project and the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights. "The year 2023 marked the bloodiest year for journalists worldwide in over a decade, with over 75% of killed journalists targeted by Israel’s attacks on Gaza."

"As Palestinian journalists, we urgently appeal to you, our colleagues globally, with a demand for immediate and unwavering action against the Biden administration's ongoing complicity in the systematic slaughter and persecution of journalists in Gaza," the authors wrote.

"We bear the enormous burden of exposing the realities of Israel's genocidal campaign to the world while living through it in real-time. Israel has killed more than 32,000 Palestinians as we watch on," the journalists said. The death toll in Gaza now exceeds 33,000—mostly women and children—with at least 75,550 other Palestinians wounded since October 7.

The appeal continues:

In Gaza, journalism is synonymous with putting our lives on the line as Israel methodically targets us in its desperate bid to silence our voices and obscure the grim reality of its genocidal actions and its project of ethnic cleansing in Palestine. For Palestinian journalists in Gaza, the blue press vest does not offer us protection, but rather functions as a red target. The Biden administration's ongoing support for Israel's genocidal policies implicates it directly in the relentless targeting and massacring of journalists in Gaza, including hundreds of our colleagues and their families.

"Western media has played an integral role in manufacturing consent for Israel's ongoing violence against the Palestinian people, while obfuscating U.S. complicity," the journalists continued. "Over the past six months, the mainstream press has become the mouthpiece of the homicidal Israeli regime, promoting dehumanizing anti-Palestinian propaganda and platforming genocide apologists and perpetrators, while simultaneously ignoring, downplaying, and underreporting Israel's war crimes against Palestinians."

"The White House Correspondents' dinner is an embodiment of media manipulation, trading journalistic ethics for access," the appeal argues. "For journalists to fraternize at an event with President [Joe] Biden and Vice President [Kamala] Harris would be to normalize, sanitize, and whitewash the administration's role in genocide."

"As journalists reporting from the belly of the beast, you have a unique responsibility to speak truth to power and uphold journalistic integrity," the Palestinians implored U.S. journalists. "It is unacceptable to stay silent out of fear or professional concern while journalists in Gaza continue to be detained, tortured, and killed for doing our jobs."

The appeal's authors noted that American media professionals have demanded justice for journalists like Palestinian American Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh—who numerous probes found was intentionally killed by Israeli forces in 2022—and Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi Washington Post columnist gruesomely murdered in 2018 by Saudi Arabian operatives in Turkey.

"It is past time journalists take action for journalists in Gaza," the Palestinians asserted. "We call on all journalists of conscience to stand with us and uplift our call to boycott the White House Correspondents' dinner."

2016 VoicePlay summer fun — campers, cruises, costumes, charity, and… cops?

The excitement of the spring months rolled right into the summer. After he'd had a few weeks of concentrated new-dad time, the other guys gathered up Layne and headed to Ohio.

They first returned to Port Clinton for a show at the Lakeside Chautauqua Auditorium, and spent the night at a vintage (possibly haunted) hotel. From there, they scooted down to Dayton to be the featured artists at Camp A Cappella.

Ahoy, mateys

A week later, while the others took care of things at home, Geoff and Earl teamed up with three of their buddies from Echo — Erik Winger, Antonio Fernandez, and Deejay Young — for a quick cruise on the Royal Caribbean Allure to the Virgin Islands. During their time at sea, they crossed paths with Us the Duo, who had just finished opening for the North American and European legs of Pentatonix's world tour.

No rest for the ambitious

They arrived home to an exciting milestone: 100K likes on Facebook! In the meantime, Eli did some session recording work, while Layne and Tony prepped for their next PattyCake video, and Layne worked on an additional side project. (Paternity leave was supposed to be less busy, dude!)

Runnin', runnin'

Once the guys were all together again, they got into production on projects for both PattyCake and VoicePlay for most of August. In between location shoots for "Will.of.Oz", they reunited with Emoni Wilkins to film their video for "I Love Me".

Cruisin'

At the end of the month, the guys grabbed Winger again, and boarded the Royal Caribbean Oasis for yet another voyage. Since they set sail on Geoff's birthday, they had a toast on board.

Almost as soon as they got home, they traded one guest for another, snagging Antonio for the middle leg of an eastbound Panama Canal trip on the Disney Wonder. (Though it seems that they were possibly getting weary from so much travel.) They also seem to have run afoul of the Mexican police on their way home, but I'm pretty sure the getting arrested part was just a joke.

Hop, skip, and a jump

After a few days of rest, they embarked on a series of quick trips. First they flew up to New Hampshire for the UNH A Cappella Fest. Next came a show in Iowa, and then a charity fundraiser in Chicago.

All about those babes

During their next stint at home, they made time for a little hanging without working. Most of the guys let someone else do the singing for once when they attended a local Meghan Trainor concert. The group included Layne, Cyndi, and their older girls; Cyndi's sister Steph and her elder daughter; Earl and Nick; and Tony.

Meanwhile, Eli spent some time with his own family to celebrate his sister's birthday, and Geoff got his domesticity on at home with Kathy.

Back to woOOOork

As summer wound down, VoicePlay prepared for their favorite time of year by finally filming a music video for their arrangement of "Grim Grinning Ghosts" off of their 2012 album "Once Upon an Ever After".

All eh-board

They closed out September with a cruise on the Disney Magic from Nova Scotia to NYC and back. Since Tony and Layne were deep in production for their next PattyCake project (and Layne understandably wanted some more time at home with the baby), the rest of the guys called on both Winger and Antonio to fill in again.

It was very nice and very odd to read this in the introduction, seeing as a specific interest in the engine is why I'm here.

Here, Rob Wilkins may just as well be describing that specific Pratchett phenomenon where he says/writes something funny, and then you think about it (or rather, HE thinks about it, and gives you his thoughts whether you're ready for them or not), and then, even though a second ago you were sure you were, say, reading about the Grim Reaper subbing in for Santa Claus, you're getting hit with:

Hypothetical titles for season fourteen of 88

In the walls. Season premiere. Part one. Interspersed with Sidney and Findlay on a much needed vacation. Lucia deals with strange sounds coming from within the walls of the Oberon Hotel.

The raccoon man of suite 10j. Season premiere. Part two. Having found her hotels squatter. Lucia teams up with Jacob to get the man emancipated from his abusive wife. Guest starring Keanu Reeves as the eponymous raccoon man

Malpractice. Findlay offers moral support to Dr Corsica (returning guest star Audra McDonald) when a routine surgery ends in tragedy

M&M. Dr Corsica goes through a Morbidity and Mortality conference to see wether she was truly at fault for her patients death.

Inconsequential. Skipper has a dream where he’s Sherlock Holmes, Findlay is Watson (complete with moustache and war induced limp) and the Christensen’s are all the same Moriarty.

Black white grey orange blue. Drummond gets a teaching trial at Van Buren. For his first class. He gives a lecture on morality and ethics using a case from the week before

Stereotypes. The team works a case at Wilmington High School involving an intergrade pregnancy pact that some of the teachers might have known about

Rumspringa. Gideon’s approached by a young Amish man for help with getting back to his community lest he be shunned.

You’re a good man grim reaper. Andy steps in for his uncle Derek Christensen (returning guest star Daniel Radcliffe) who has taken a sabbatical from his job as grim reaper.

The mother ship. Chambers drops by Fifth Avenue intent on asking for captaincy of the Wilmington’s lead cruise liner. And Jones is intent on denying him

Star crossed. Drummond and Odessa perform damage control when Zoey Anne dregs up the dead and buried rivalry between Findlay and Jacob

Espionage. Midseason finale. Part one. Wand Tech mogul, Mordecai Simmons, guest star Jesse Eisenberg, enlists Drummond’s help to find out wether his brother Mortimer, Josh Groban, is embezzling from him or not

Embezzlement. Midseason premiere. Past two. Having found out that Mortimer is in fact embezzling, the team sets up a sting to capture him.

Diametrically opposed opposites. Andy suffers a power outburst after spending too much time near Jesse. Which ends up having some incredibly bloody consequences.

Legitimate. Jones comes under fire from the conservative community when he publicly backs President DuPont’s plan to make of age consensual prostitution a legitimate profession. Guest starring Amy Acker as President DuPont.

The documentary. Carrie Hislop (returning guest star Julia Louis Dreyfus) plans to make a documentary on how people have been coping since the Botticelli Comet. Unfortunately for her. She chooses the five families as the subject. WARNING: this episode contains frequent instances of censored language.

The real housewives of New York. Following in from the disastrous documentary. Findlay is offered a tv gig and ropes in Delaney, Winnifred and Kimberly for help

Drag. Two interests literally collide as a drag car race Sidney and Jonah were going to crashes into a drag queen show Findlay and Barnaby were going to

Just cause. Jacob had deal with his corrupt cousin Marissa at a time that’s emotionally sensitive for him. Drummond babysits Skipper and Oswald’s son Theo. Delaney locks Zoey in the panic room after one crack too many. Thornton gets an unwelcome surprise visit from his ex stepcousin Renee. Jonah develops a juvenile crush on Deucalion and Kimberly’s 22 year old son son, Lysander. Guest starring Cathy Ang as Marissa Spratt, Emma Roberts’s as Renee Ullman and Bellamy Young as Jacob’s mother Adelaide Spratt. First appearance of Milo Manheim as Lysander Wilkins.

The sixth family of New York. Findlay petitions Jones to induct the Christensen’s into the Inner Circle on Fifth Avenue

Proxy. Findlay is recruited by Princess Rani’s lawyer to ask Emerson Davenport’s permission for Rani to propose to Aimee. Guest starring Dani Harmer as Harriet Downey, Rhianne Barreto as Rani Burton, Auli’i Cravalho as Aimee Davenport and Chris Pratt as Emerson Davenport

A day at the zoo. Findlay and Sidney are forced onto the sidelines when members of PETA release all the animals at Central Park Zoo. With Barnaby and Jonah still inside.

The list. Season finale. Part one. Thornton’s team investigate serial murders involving a married couple who kill the names on each others Freebie lists

Hits and Mrs. Season finale. Part two. Lucia and Alabaster go undercover to catch the Freebie Fellers.
