Today we had a birthday party for Jonas at the local farm. He loves it there. 😊 At one point he chased some Guinea fowl into the corner in the henhouse (fowl house? Both the chickens and GF live in there).
It was a lot colder/windier than we wanted, but a lot of friends and family came. We feel loved 🥰
The last three years went by fast! Jonas won’t officially be three until next week but close enough. Time really does fly.
This fairly common saltwater aquarium pufferfish comes in three colour variations! The most common is a dark brown colour with white spots (pictured above), but there also exists a bright yellow, black-dotted variation and a combination of the two. There are also other less common variations!
Here is a guineafowl puffer with the yellow variation as well. Beautiful!
So, I have just realized that I have made a huge mistake. It didn't realize till recently, but there is something I must fix immediately, and I hope you can forgive me... I FORGOT TO POST ABOUT MY NEW DUCK. I don't know how, but I completely forgot to tell anyone about him!! This is an injustice I must rectify!
... so, yeah, we got a duck!!
He is a Pekin duck that my mom got from a work friend who was going to butcher him because he kept trying to drown her new ducklings. Despite this, he's very friendly with people and has lived with chickens his whole life, meaning he'll fit perfectly into the flock! He was originally named Duckwing, but we had alot of trouble remembering it, so we tested out some other names, and he responded really well to the name Scrooge. So, he is now named Scrooge Mc Duck!
Similar to the character, Scrooge is living a very wealthy life. He has a small mansion
A pool that is cleaned daily
And even a bit of natural decor
We just introduced him to the chickens, but we do plan to get at least one more duck, so he has a friend of his own kind to hang out with. For now, he seems happy with the chickens.
While I'm here, here's an update on the other feathery friends!
The guineas are doing well and have grown! They currently live in what looks like a small zoo enclosure because what we failed to realize when we got them is that 1) they are escape artists, 2) they are very territorial, and 3) their "flight mode" and "fight mode" are combined into a single mode.
They don't run or freeze when they're scared like chickens. Instead, they wake up and choose violence every single day. They have tried to attack the dogs, the cats, a hawk, and a wheelbarrow. Thankfully, they only attack things that come into/around their pen, and once they figure out its not a threat, they're chill. We still hope to introduce them to the chicken flock, since in the few times they have escaped, they seemed perfectly fine with them. We just want to make sure they know this is their home and that they won't try to escape.
And finally, the silkies! They have currently been moved to a larger indoor pen to make more room for King. We tried to give them an outdoor area, but after a few weeks, they still had no interest in going outside. We plan to eventually move them to a bigger outdoor yard next to the current chicken yard, but we will probably keep them as a separate flock, as they're smaller than the other chickens and we don't want to risk them getting hurt by the other roosters or hens.
