hello i am FASCINATED by how well you write absolutely everyone in mcyt and so i must ask directly: do you. like. have a big document with all your notes on them and their speech patterns and traits and personalities and stuff. or does it just Come natural. is it some secret third thing
if its the first thing: would you be so inclined to perhaps share those notes with the world... for the people... for society... for the greater good of all man... Maybe...
if its the second thing: i violently applaud you through sobs. what the hell. How. wish that were me
if its some secret third thing: i still kindly ask for you to share some thoughts on characterization, or tips and things for it because. the posts you've made like that in the past have very quickly become biblical to me. i'd love some big master post about every hermit's and/or life-series-er's speech patterns or something since you just... write them so well all the time without fail. its phenomenal.
no big document! and I probably won’t write a masterpost, either—I actually tend to not be great at articulating how I write my characterization. my specialization went into “writing fic” more than “writing meta” and while I’m getting BETTER at the latter, I’m still not always good at articulating exactly the things that people probably look for when they look for someone to give them characterization tips.
I’d almost say two is the right option here, but that’s not really fair either—while “it came to me in a vision” is the response I have to a lot of people asking “how did you write that thing”, I should note that I have ALSO been writing for over a decade now and watch a lot of mcyt! so between the practice and watching a good amount of the source material to get everyone’s voices into my head, it’s not really “it came natural fully formed” so much as “it feels natural to me because I’ve practiced a lot”, you know?
if you want shortcuts to realistic dialogue, look for what kinds of words the person you’re writing tends to repeat, use, not use. also, don’t discount osmosis from other people in the fandom; some of my characterization is definitely made up of me having practice synthesizing the thoughts I get looking at other people’s stuff. shortcuts to characterization in general are… harder… but remember that people are Weird when they feel emotions, but they’re still PEOPLE, and aim for that, and you’ll start to get stuff. but the thing is that most of this is just… a lot of practice.
and like, that’s a large part of what it comes down to—watch the guys you want to write so you can hear their voices in your head more easily, and then practice. and then over time you’ll find the shortcuts and style that work for you and how to use those to characterize things! heck, you may even get to the point you start to have Strong Opinions, which is always fun; the other reason I won’t write a characterization document is that I always disagree with several items on any such document I’ve read for a fandom I write and that’s okay. not everyone is going to characterize everyone the same way or fully agree on what is or isn’t in character, and I don’t want to be too centralizing, you know?
so you know… the best place to start is to get started! good luck out there!

Hii! I am the anon about the world building's informations and thank you! You are very kind! If I am annoying, please say it to me! I would like to ask you about your opinions about two events in mdzs: was really disprectful for wwx and lwj to stay in the Jiang ancestral hall without jc's permission? And nmj was really harsh about wq's punishment and (not counting his feelings), there was a moral conduct that asked them to kill all their enemies? (in historical books I have seen it a lot! Like"we should kill all of our emenies, regardless of everything "! But there's a lot of disagreement in this fandom)
Hi Nonny! You're not annoying at all!
For the first question, re: WWX and LWJ in the Jiang Family Shrine without permission from JC or any other Jiang (though JC is the only bloodline Jiang left so mostly JC) -- yes, that is actually majorly disrespectful. Esp for LWJ because he didn't previously have any relation to the Jiang.
Longer answer on why this is: during most of ancient Chinese history (and in fairly traditional families to this day) ancestor worship is practiced more so or equally to other religions like Taoism or Buddhism, meaning that yes, the family shrine is a sacred space BUT it's also a very private space that stores the memorial placards of your immediate family. It's kind of like if you have a family tomb/crypt and you get sudden uninvited guests in it.
(for the record, WangXian going and poking around in the Nie sect's blade tomb does at least in CQL prompt NHS to say something like "hey that saber is my grandfather" or something similar. It's also equally rude to run around in there without an invitation, it's just less bad for that particular incident because NHS actually did intend for them to come visit if that makes sense.)
For the second question re: NMJ and his thoughts about punishing the Wens (I've written meta about if he wants them all dead here) but your question is mostly about "is it kosher to kill the whole family of your enemies?" and the answer to this is a bit complicated!
in Imperial China at various points throughout history, certain crimes (varying depending on the dynasty) are punishable by the execution of the "nine kindreds" (九族) which is also sometimes included your spouse, uncles and aunts, second and third cousins, in-laws, adult children and grandchildren and their spouses. (wikipedia has a brief discussion of it here)
often, during a regime overthrow during premodern China, the imperial family of the previous dynasty would be persecuted and killed to prevent new political factions from rallying around them to cause civil unrest, though this was often incomplete (see writings on the fall of the House of Zhao which ruled the Song dynasty and the JingKang incident, where most of the Song Dynasty royal family was captured and humiliated/turned into prisoners/slaves by the Jurchen who captured most of the imperial family and court after invading the capital of Bianjing.)
So there is historical precedent for clan extermination in historical China, but I do feel that it's definitely played up in dramas and novels that are set in ~historical fantasy ancient China land~ just because it's not a punishment that was flung around willynilly. At this point it's more a trope than a reflection of the practice in real history, but it was a thing that could've been a kosher punishment in a society like MDZS.

I'm probably an idiot BUT what's the difference between a repost and a reblog? I see so many artists have that little 'dont repost but reblogs are fine' message and I never have any idea what to do so I leave a like/comment as support.
Sorry to bother but can U explain so I can support my favs as much as possible? (One of those favs being you 👀👀)
Reposting just means saving the photo and posting it directly to your own account. Reblogging just means tapping that little reblog button, that way it's still linked to my account, it's my post but your reblogging to your page. I don't exactly know how to explain it other then that? Just don't make your own post and use my artwork. Reblog are encouraged and appreciated! Especially with comments! I read literally all of them, tags too! They make my day.

Hi, I was the one who sent the ask about being confused! I am still confused, you listed the order events happen in the timeline but not the order your work should be read.
Hello! Thank you for the follow up!
I will be remaking my entire master list hopefully within the next week, but since I've just started a new job and don't know how much energy/time I'll have going forward for the next few days, I can't make any specific promises.
For right now I am going to pin this until I can get a new master list in place.
And link the characters/timeline post as well
But for right now this is best I can provide for each of the stories/timelines in chronological order at the time of writing this.
Mibium:
BTHB non-con touching
BTHB blindfolded
Dayzel:
Nox marking him
Dayzel and Mibium early relationship angst
Rupert's henchmen kidnaping him back
Sensory deprivation
Unforgivable
BTHB pleading
Non-canon pieces or side pieces that can be read in any order:
Hung by tail
Snippets
Rupert whump
---
Berkley:
BTHB: (Dnd) Tampering with food and drink
Pick Your Poison masterlist
---
I don't have much yet of Nom and Alithea, but these should be in order:
Laugh
Alithea rescues Nom
BTHB: "I just want to have friends"
---
This is the master list for canon/full chapters of Half lies and hidden truths
But here are some older writings/snippets (did my best to keep them in order):
Richard prying into Dare's mind
Metaphorical gunpoint
Ian failed escape attempt
Dare imprisoned
Ian comfort
Jane unhealthy coping mechanism
Dare going back for Mindy

on my knees begging you to please look up “squick” if you don’t know it and help bring it back to fandom space by using it. it’s a valuable word we’re missing that through normalizing could solve some of the more prevalent communication issues.

They apparently have a great unintended use of stopping hens from getting bullied, so we got one to try it out since the above hen gets excessively picked on by the others (we don't really know why).
Shout put to the wonderful @gingervivilou who told me about it!!

"She's Gone"
This bad boy was started on the third of November, and finished on the seventh. In total, there are thirty panels (all of which were drawn separately).
A good chunk of N's dialogue near the end came to me after I did some improv to figure out what he should say. I have since dubbed it "N's Failure Monologue."

Repeat after me:
The first draft just needs to exist
The second draft needs to be functional
The third draft needs to be effective
The first draft just needs to exist
The second draft needs to be functional
The third draft needs to be effective
The first draft just needs to exist
The second draft needs to be functional
The third draft needs to be effective
Remember, the second and third can't happen if you don't have something to work with. Your first draft will always be shit compared to your third, but at least it exists. The worst first draft is an unfinished one. The best first draft is a just completed one.
You read books/stories not in their first draft form-- only in their finished form (third, fourth, sometimes fifteenth draft). So stop comparing your first draft with a final one.
So, just write--you can make it better later. Perfectionism is the greatest weight a creator can carry.

something about tim not knowing if he's his mother's child or bruce's or neither's.

I know this AU has since died down, but recently it's really been helping me look on the bright, fun side of college, so I decided to draw @spectacledraws's (go check her out!!!) Deltarune college au as if it were a fake manga (heavily inspired by the Yotsuba comics)!
For those curious what the title means (which I hope I didn't royally mess up the Japanese on):
別の伝説 (betsu no densetsu) - Another Legend
DELTARUNEの二次創作 (Deltarune no nijisousaku) - A DELTARUNE side-story
