I'M NOT FOWCKING DEAD!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry y'all. Irl business be hittin hard and I have a ton of projects and tests coming up guys.

BUT

one of the art projects I'm working on requires stickers and I just finished them and figured hopefully you guys would like them to,

The mooncakes took way too much time and you might've noticed I've kinda cheated and re-used a sticker of Chang'E and Hou Yi but shhhh..... (they don't know that)

First time I've drawn Guanyin...or Erlang...or Nuwa...OK Fine. I probably should vary who I draw.

Wukong in the opera costume! Don't get me wrong, I love the lmk fit but I wanted to put him in something a little more...regal. Something befitting the great sage equal to heaven.

(Ao Bing: Nezha is so annoying....

(Also I have to tip-toe around the fact that they are based on the Lmk designs....)

Who is The Mayor? Theory

Me and some guys on discord talked about a joke theory that I must share:

The Mayor is Hou Yi aka Chang'e's missing husband.

A former Celestial hunter turned mortal, forever separated from his true love due to mistakes.

Specifically, he's Hou Yi driven to desperate means after being separated from his wife and barred from the Celestial Realm.

We know that the Mayor has been alive since before the Pilgrimage and perhaps maybe even beyond. He also didn't drop dead the second LBD took away his powers, meaning that some other force was keeping him alive.

So imagine Hou Yi: left immortal and trapped on an Earth he cannot leave. He attempts to do some good with his limitless time. Becoming a loyal soldier and later Chief of War to a mortal Emperor - only to find himself disheartened by the imperial court's similarities to the one he was cast from. Then he meets an Ivory Lady that reminds him so much of his wife...

Hou Yi!Mayor: "I miss my wife..." Ivory Lady/Lady Bone Demon: "Best I can do is destruction of this current world to make way for a clean slate" Hou Yi!Mayor: "...ok, that might make me feel better."

When the Mayor is cast aside by LBD during her fight with Sun Wukong, he doesn't seem betrayed by her disloyalty, not even disappointed. The greatest emotion he gives to the Monkie Kid gang is hysterical laughter combined with annoyance at being captured. Not to mention that the gang just sorta... leaves the Mayor tied up at the temple and he never appears again. What happened to him after that?

With the Lady Bone Demon's constant talk of others being pawns in her game, it would be equally amusing for her to be barely a rook on the board.

If the Mayor turns out to be the same person in S4 who stole the Scroll of Memory - Hou Yi would be somebody with person beef with the Jade Emperor.

According to some versions of "Hou Yi and the 10 Suns/Sons", the Jade Emperor/King Yao gives Hou Yi the (unclear) order to "take care" of the 10 rowdy sun gods. Hou Yi (an archer/hunter) naturally assumes that his order is to shoot them down. It's only after 9 are killed that he's stopped. After this, Hou Yi and his wife Chang'e are banished to earth. Later they obtain the Elixir/Pills of Immortality from the Queen Mother after Hou Yi slays many a celestial beast threatening the mortal realm. Chang'e then (whether accidentally or to prevent Hou Yi's student/Hou Yi himself from taking it) consumes the dosage meant for Hou Yi and is forever cast into the sky.

Imagine being Hou Yi in this situation. Betrayed not only by the Celestial Realm, but also by one of your closest companions. Forever alone because he were just following orders. You'd want to take a shot at the person most at fault for your pain. And like Hou Yi, the Mayor ends up with nothing for his loyalty.

It also continues the theme in LMK of people being separated/sealed away. Perhaps even a parellel to Princess Iron Fan and Demon Bull King. A married couple torn apart and separated for countless years.

Also I think it would be funny if perfect Cinnamon Roll Chang'e's true love turned out to be a man with the personality of a cat about to knock a glass off a counter.

Hou Yi in LMK style and guess what I have plans for him after listening to Epic the Musical love it btw.

LISTEN I HAVE PLANS BUT I don't know where to write it plan it or even draw it. Like THIS FANDOM MAKES ME WANT TO DO SO MUCH I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS!!! Hou Yi is my first victim the design is inspired by the portraits or paintings of him and OSP.

Hello LMK Tumblr, I have an offering. I Lego-ed Hou Yi. (Rambles about the subject below)

Hou Yi LMK >:D

If you have no idea about this guy, I strongly recommend this video (its only 4-5min long, wont take much of your time). Love Overly Sarcastic Productions sm, anyway- I guess anything I do with him at this point counts as OC sheniagns? But he does exist in the mythos. I just wanted to make my interpretation of the guy for the silly monkie show. I don't think we'll have a reason to see him down the line, as much as I would love to be wrong. We're only gotten Chang'e for one episode, I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm confident he's not in JTTW anyway sooooo eh. Very "what if" concept.

Random things I want to say while here:

His color pallete is meant to correspond with the colors Chang'e is given cus... yk it is her dead husband and all. Made his eyes red as a contrast to the about cool colors in the overall pallete AND my little headcanon with LMK Chang'e anyway is that her eyes are blue (so they're just the "Red Oni, Blue Oni" trope, for the sake of fun! - they subvert this trope later in my own writings, but that's not the point) Needed to have the moon motif somewhere so I put it on the belt, little cresent moon and a star cus I thought it be cute. I went looking to see if anyone else has done this, it was kinda fruitless BUT! I did find a person's (@chileanclown on twitter) LMK oc that's a reincarnation of Hou Yi and it's pretty cool. [here’s the link to that]

Other things I bumped into, this post in particular killed my mood a little. Her sitting and crying a little while gently holding the bow bummed me out. How dare! :( /lh /aff I spent 6 hours designing this guy (includes 8 concept sketches + render) over the span of a week. I adore how he turned out and I might make fluff doodles of him and Chang'e (the original star crossed lovers my beloved <3). I'll talk about them more soon, hopefully.

Published in 2022, Sue Lynn Tan’s ‘Daughter of the Moon Goddess’ is set in a fantasy land inspired by classical Chinese mythology. Filled with romance, danger, and magic, the novel tells the story of Xingyin, daughter of the moon goddess, Chang’e, and her mortal husband, Hou Yi.

Hou Yi and Chang’e are two famous tragic lovers of Chinese myth. Their story is said to be the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, which is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Hou Yi was a famous archer, the most skilled in the world, good enough to even gain the favour of the gods – something that would be both his blessing and his downfall.

The world once had ten suns – the children of the Emperor Di Jun and his wife Xihe. Taking the form of three-legged crows, the suns spent most of their time resting in a mulberry tree. Each day one of the suns would travel through the sky. One day, all ten of the suns decided to appear in the sky together, flying too close to the earth and scorching it. The heat was so great that it seemed all of humanity would be wiped out. Hou Yi was called upon to save the day, and he put his incredible archery skills to good use – shooting down all the of the suns but one.

In my "The Mayor = Hou Yi" idea/au; I feel that if Chang'e and her lover are reunited, it will require a great amount of healing and compromise. Unable to leave either Earth (Hou Yi) or the Moon/Celestial Realm (Chang'e) they will need to meet halfways.

If given the chance to reunite, Mayor/Hou Yi will drop everything to be with Chang'e again.

Luckily the lines between Realms become ever more broken once the Jade Emperor's reign comes to an end...

Some more about the 10 suns, because I think they're pretty neat. Today is mostly gonna be cool details that I didn't go into before.

So, I don't think I've mentioned where the suns hung out when they weren't doing their jobs, and that's a shame because it's pretty cool.

See, there's this massive tree called Fusang that grew in the Tang Valley. It's so big that it has an entire palace in it's branches. Talk about a fancy tree house, right? And, of course, it has immortality giving fruit like 80% of all other magic trees in ancient China (seriously, with all these immortality fruits, it's a wonder the 10 Kings of the Underworld have jobs anymore).

Anyway, they all lived in the tree, but how they took turns being in the sky varies by telling. Some stories have their mother Xihe carry them across in a chariot pulled by dragons, but sometimes they just climb the tree and sit at the top all day. One myth says that the suns were actually carried around by magic crows that Xihe blinded to keep them from taking her sons down to the mortal realm, so instead they decided to take the crows to the top of the tree and cause Problems. Whoops.

Last but not least, the last sun. See, all the myths with these guys mention that one stays in the sky, which makes sense because we kinda need at least one of them. They were only a problem because they all decided to party together. But it also makes sense that the last sun would be pretty nervous about coming out again after all 9 of his brothers either got sniped by Hou Yi or Shen I, or smashed with a mountain by Erlang Shen. That's when someone or something decided to have roosters crow at sunrise, to tell him to get his butt up there and do his job.
