There would have been more, but I got lost: my modest collection of vintage labyrinths and mazes.

Aaand some of arts I made for a university. The whole first course we’ll be doing different projects based on already existing books or other media pieces, so I’ve chosen Epic Of Gilgamesh cause Mesopotamian mythology is cool and sexy.
The fist four pics is from the board game based on Gilgamesh’s story (1-3 is cards and the fourth pic is an illustration from the manual), the last two pics are just some goofy designs — Enkidu, Gilgamesh, Enki and Ninhursag. Sorry for Russian test, I’m just too lazy to translate.
Yeah, I drew them a little different from their original descriptions, but eh, it’s for a sake of diversity.
Oh, and I’m studying animation! I still can’t quite believe that I’m in this point of my life.

1922. Geologists explore a cave system under the ancient ruins of Babylon (Kingdom of Iraq) finding a massive stone structure. It appears to have been worshipped in some way by the ancient Mesopotamians. Carvings in the cave wall associate it with Humbaba, a mythological demon.
Tumblr media
The carvings tell the story of the stone giant waking up after something they did angered it. It appears to be some sort of warning, perhaps a metaphor of the decaying Babylonian empire in the XVI century BC.
(Pictured below: the ruins of Babylon, showing a path of rubble starting at the cave entrance and trailing through the city)
Tumblr media
Near the city, the group of geologists documented finding very large indentations in the ground. Convinced that the creature was real and these were its footsteps, they never released the location of the cave structure. It has not been found again to this day.

My deepest sympathy for my AP Lit class that has to hear me connect every topic we cover back to the Epic of Gilgamesh. In my defense, it's a beautiful representation of human nature through the ages.

DracariOctober #22
Now this is quite an Epic height for Gilgamesh! I don't think "Humbaba" is very happy to have them standing on his Cedar Forest... and most of the surrounding Sumerian Countryside! We're approaching the end of DracariOctober rather fast now, so please consider getting your donations in before it's too late!  This year we're supporting the South Sound Reading Foundation in honor of Mondomonger/Axelroo. Thank you for being there for me for a decade! https://www.southsoundreading.org/ This year's interactions are going to be a little spicier! We're only going to be increasing heights by a little bit per interaction, but Donations will begin to exponentially compound the results! The earlier the bigger, the better, and borkier! Voting will be for the next day's theme! Since we're supporting a Literacy Foundation this year, I'll select four possible literary worlds to draw our Derggo into at their given height! Each one will only appear once, so vote carefully! So how do we make this Dracario bigger? You can help! Right now, here's how much Interactions are worth: Likes = 2167.545m Retweets = 5418.863m Voting in the Poll = 2167.545m Exponential! Two kilometers per like and five per retweet/post? Now we're getting BIG! We could always grow faster though... Every $1 donated will exponentially begin to increase these values per day, compounding +0.1% per dollar. That means the earlier you donate, the more growth it will compound down the line, and if my math checks out, he could be getting pretty huge, but will they stay on Earth? Only your donations will tell! https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=H6ZB8M7EJ4QKE I will be counting Likes as Liking on Twitter or Favoriting on FurAffinity. I'd like to do more sites but I don't want to spend too much time collecting data when I could be doodling Derggo! Retweets will count both Twitter and Bluesky! Voting will count from the Twitter poll attached to the thread, or by visiting StrawPoll here: https://strawpoll.com/e2narxOLAgB

Two-sided .925 sterling silver talisman with the face of Terrible Humbaba on one side, and his epithet in Sumerian cuneiform on the other. Humbaba / Humwawa is a giant monster made by Utu the sun, and set by the god Enlil to protect the cedar forests where the gods lived. "When he looks at someone, it is the look of death."[Gilgamesh and Huwawa] "Humbaba's roar is a flood, his mouth is death and his breath is fire! He can hear a hundred leagues away any [rustling?] in his forest! Who would go down into his forest!"[Epic of Gilgamesh] Some texts describe his face as leonine, others say he is more exotically monstrous. My image is based on photographs clay figurines which were carried for protection. Each piece is hand-made, cast and finished from a mold which I also made. Each piece is unique, with unique variations in texture and finish, including some small defects which are an inevitable part of the process.

Dearest Enkimoots (Epic of Gilgamesh Mutuals), today I have learned that the Epic of Gilgamesh is made up of 5 sumerian poems (Gilgamesh and Huwawa; Gilgamesh and the Bull of Heaven, Gilgamesh and Agga of Kish; Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and the Netherworld; and Death of Gilgamesh) dating to over a thousand years before the full Epic (which was in Akkadian).
I know I will be reading these along with The Descent of Ishtar and Eridu Genesis (The Flood Myth), so i thought you all may also like it.
