i’m so sorry i would NEVER forgive my significant other for shooting my best friend let alone a shot that caused a flatline. It would be done and over the second i found out a gun was even raised to them. John Watson should NEVER have forgiven mary and i will never forgive him for that.

Rest in peace to me because I am vague blogging so forgive me everyone but sometimes I am so very obsessed with people's opinions about why Elementary is Bad in the year of our lord 2023.
The argument was that Elementary was bad as an adaptation for making it a procedural crime drama and for making Sherlock an addict, both of which "miss the point" of the ACD canon. (This person was very obviously a big Johnlock person as well which wouldn't matter except for the particular hill they decided to defend.) I can't disagree that procedural crime dramas are a function of modernity, and are certainly not the "point" of the Holmes canon. If you dislike procedurals on principle then I think that's that and there you have it—but considering that procedurals are a very common way to do mystery-writing now, and considering that to my knowledge there has never been a Holmes & Watson procedural before, I do think that it makes sense for a modern adaptation. Modern Holmes, modern storytelling convention, matchy matchy. But no, not the point and perhaps a valid complaint.
But disliking Sherlock as an addict is a VERY FUNNY ISSUE TO TAKE WHEN YOU ARE PUTTING BBC SHERLOCK ON A PEDESTAL. My number one complaint about season four of Sherlock (and I am being dead serious) was the relationship they presented between John, Sherlock, and drug use. Because the "point," I think, was that Sherlock Holmes is willing to escalate conflict, lie to his partner, and put his own life in jeopardy for the sake of the mystery, damn the consequences (and, for that matter, he trusts that his partner will accept being abused and still help him no matter what). And I get that ACD!Holmes would do anything for the mystery and he didn't always treat Watson well in the canon but I think if the "point" were that these two characters are locked in an immutably abusive and codependent relationship then these characters would not having the staying power that they do. I won't say that the episode was bad writing per se, but I felt like that was the nail in the coffin for BBC Sherlock as an adaptation for me. It was like, yes sir, we've always given Sherlock drugs to use recreationally as in canon, and when he starts to use them in unhealthy ways and they negatively impact his relationships, it doesn't need to be addressed to the audience as an issue because actually Sherlock Holmes is Too Smart to have a drug problem, he was tricking you the whole time, and you were stupid for worrying.
Which like. Okay. I don't think that's the point, and if it is, I don't want it. No thanks.
Compare with Elementary. And not saying it's perfect. Not saying anyone has to like it. But we are thinking about Sherlock Holmes in a modern setting. And the fact of the matter is, when ACD wrote Sherlock Holmes, we did not have the same amount of information on substance use or addiction that we do today. This isn't to say that people can't use substances recreationally and safely, whether they live in the late 1800s or in the modern era. But in ACD's time, the common understanding of chemical dependence was often attributed to moral failing rather than any other contributing factor. There was no such thing as chemical dependence. There were people strong enough to make good choices and people who weren't. And that's not to say they didn't notice, say, genetic predispositions. That tied into much of eugenicist thought at the time. "Ah, yes, the way to fix society is to get rid of those gross people who keep generating morally weak children. Then society will be great!" The way people thought about drug use had very little to do with medicine and a lot to do with self-reinforcing prejudices against class or race. The Sherlock Holmes written by Arthur Conan Doyle did not have an addiction, not because he was just amazing at maintaining a healthy and recreational relationship with his substances, but because deep down he's Too Good For That. Back then Good People didn't have addictions. He had vices, perhaps, or indulgences, or experiments. But Holmes couldn't have a problem with substance use because he was above having a problem with substance use.
So we are left with Holmes in the modern era. Like before, Holmes uses drugs recreationally. He enjoys them. They, as before, help him think and help him stay close to the mysteries he solves. But something else has changed. Now we know that there is no such thing as being Too Smart or Too Good to have an addiction. And so our modern Holmes has to contend with the fact that yes, he's not Too Smart to develop a dependency, he's not Too Smart to relapse, and he is not Too Smart to suffer the same kind of struggle that so many ordinary people have also suffered. It's very humbling. It is indeed painful for him to accept Joan as a sober companion in his life. It's something impossible to escape. And it is really, really fruitful as a character trait. The conversation he has with Joan in the season 3 episode "The Eternity Injection" still sticks with me:
Sherlock: If you must know, Watson, I've been feeling a little bit down of late. It's the process of maintaining my sobriety. It's repetitive. And it's relentless. And above all, it's tedious. When I left rehab, I... I accepted your influence, I committed to my recovery. And now, two years in, I find myself asking, "'is this it?"' My sobriety is simply a grind. It's just this leaky faucet that requires constant maintenance, and in return offers only not to drip.
Joan: You have your work, you have me. You're alive.
Sherlock: I've told myself that many times. So many times, it has become unmoored from all meaning. Odd. I used to imagine that a relapse would be the climax to some grand drama. Now I think that if I were to use drugs again, it would in fact be an anticlimax. It would be a surrender to the incessant drip, drip, drip of existence.
I love this scene. I love this conversation. And I love it as an adaptation because this is not a conclusion or moral that Arthur Conan Doyle could have written in his own time. This scene captures some of the knowledge we have now, and likely some of the hurts and harms of our era as well. However, it says something about these two famous characters: that Sherlock, whose mind aches for mysteries, is equally if not more challenged by the practical matter of living his life, and that Joan is with him in it. It's not dramatic. It's just a conversation in their living room.
I think that's sufficient.
Sherlock is a detective and an addict in Elementary. His addiction changes the way he thinks and acts forever. And in some regards, that makes him worse. And in other regards, that makes him the best he's ever been. No, Arthur Conan Doyle did not write a story about an addict. Elementary did. And the point is that he solved mysteries and helped people, the point was that he was an incredible detective, and the point was that he was human, only human.
rrrrrrr don't say weird things about my show kthxbai

lmfao! It is catlock-holmes?!
You Had Bad Taste, My Dear Watson.
I stopped following kitty around mid feb this year. She at least started 2 fights on other people's blogs in the first half of feb alone.
One at the beginning of feb on raina-at's blog because kitty didn't like that sherlock had romantic relationships before John in raina-at's fic. Another one at gregorvitch's (spellling?) blog because she didn't like a silly meme there. The meme was about switching one's hype-fixation from bbc sherlock to sherlock&co. must be a crime to have a new hype-fixation! not to mention the recurring arguments from her reblogs. jeez. just too much.
Kitty instigated both fights on others' blogs and it didn't take long for her to start naming-calling during the arguments. I tried to find the links but it seems she deleted all of them. Real brave.
Catlock-holmes changed their pronouns to him/he on April 16, 2024. Below, they’re still referred to as she/her. The argument that took place on Raina her blog (as referenced in the ask) was initiated by Catlock-holmes and is visible below.
Yeah, I learned of both (and more) arguments since my split from the people involved (not from Catlock herself, obviously). The argument taking place on Raina-at is presented below. I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that I didn’t know, because I feel I could’ve stepped in somehow. Supported the followers who had a negative experience with consult-sherlockholmes as that account was attached to mine. I didn’t follow her main blog (catlock-holmes) as John (which truly is my sole Tumblr account to go to).
And as you can recall, I started distancing myself from Tumblr since around December. Tumblr has always been a safe haven for me to have fun and relax, but it was getting harder and harder considering our partnership and how it digressed, drastically. The roleplay wasn’t enjoyable for me anymore. It was frustrating.
In the beginning of our partnership, it was fun though. Things just got worse over time, especially when I started to realise that our interaction was draining and not giving me positive energy. I believe she thinks I’ve been the toxic one in our relationship (because I decided to leave her?), which I find truly baffling because I’ve been nothing but supportive during her strugglers, offering advice on how to view people and life (which always landed on deaf ears). The thing that hurts me the most is how little regard she has about other people’s opinions, feelings, and personal circumstances. How little she cared when I wanted to leave Tumblr. She only cared about herself and her blog, claiming me leaving gave her anxiety.
Trust me, I’m so glad I didn’t leave and that I chose to stay on, interacting with people that make this platform enjoyable (and safe) for me again. I truly wonder whether this whole conflict could have been avoided if I’d done things differently, but I also think that it would still have been like this.
She is fuelling the conspiracy behind our backs, defaming and harassing me right from when I told her I wanted to quit in the upcoming months. Before I even announced to her and on the blog that I would leave her instead of Tumblr (see vagueblogging example 1 in the hastags).
It fits her character, though. Avoiding confrontation, never daring to directly talk to people disagreeing with her, but seeking all the ways to victimise herself and manipulate others into thinking how bad she was treated. According to her, she owns the fandom, or at least Sherlock Holmes. Which isn’t right. That’s not how it works.
Now, I hope we can both truly move on.
Catlock will read this, obviously: Just move on and find people to continue your version of Sherlock with. Look at how you are projecting your own behaviour onto me, onto us. Grow up. I told you before, many times, even before the end of our partnership: you are emotionally manipulative and you need to learn to reflect on your own thoughts and behaviour, and how it affects others. I have other things to focus on right now, which you know but obviously never ever cared about. Please leave me, us be, OK? Stop with the vague-blogging (see below), backstabbing (e.g. taking and twisting my chats/words with you and others out of context to feed your narrative), messaging us and others anonymously (see examples on this blog) etc etc.
Just. Move. On.
I don’t want to continue voicing my perspective over and over and counter everything you’ve been throwing our way. It’s hurtful enough that things ended the way they did. Knowing you, this is probably how it always would have ended.
Enjoy your Tumblr-experience with like-minded people. It’s definitely not me.
Take care.
John

some leverage redemption negativity under cut (well not really negativity, just something about the way they based episodes on specific real-life people on the news that didn't work for me personally)
(also major spoilers for Season 6 Episode 13 of Elementary below cut)
So one thing that I didn't like about Leverage Redemption (which I've only partially watched) was that several times I felt like the antagonists were too similar to specific real life people, like Martin Shkreli in the Card Game Job or Elon Musk in Great Train Job)
I mean, Leverage antagonists were always based on real life villains, but they usually changed it up a little bit, or mish-mashed a few so you couldn't immediately figure out which real life person something was based on
(like the Jailhouse Job where in real life it was juvie,
or the CIA experiment (Experimental Job) where in real life it was the OSS (which later merged with the CIA) and the victims were poor college students on financial aid instead of homeless vets,
or the Double Blind Job, which was a mish-mash of different pharmaceutical scandals)
I can't really put a finger on why this overt similarity to real life situations bothers me so much.
At first, I thought it was because I like some escapism in my shows (unless I'm watching John Oliver or something like that) and don't like being reminded of specific real life current events,
But recently I've been watching Elementary (CBS) and there's an episode, Breathe (S6 E13) which is also clearly based on Martin Shkreli and that didn't bother me about Breathe at all. In fact, I quite liked that episode.
So to recap the Elementary episode:
The episode starts with Holmes and Watson investigating the death of a lawyer, Frisk. They quickly deduce that Frisk is actually a prolific and extremely competent hit man who was killed by one of his clients, over blackmail material he kept on his clients. (One file was stolen.)
After consulting with Frisk's assistant, they realize that the missing file is of the character based on Shkreli (whom I'll call Shkreli henceforth), where Shkreli had hired Frisk to kill someone who was about to create a better, cheaper treatment for cystic fibrosis (which Shkreli was price-gouging)
However, they later figure out that Shkreli never hired Frisk, nor did he kill him.
Instead Frisk realized that Shkreli had hired a different hitman to kill the researcher (using his hitman skills to see that the death wasn't an accident), tried to prove it and/or find the hitman Shkreli hired, failed, and committed suicide framing Shkreli (for both his murder and the hit); It turned out Frisk's son (with the aforementioned assistant) had cystic fibrosis and Frisk needed Shkreli to go down so that cystic fibrosis drugs would stop being price-gouged.
(Frisk's assistant (and baby mama) was in on the whole thing; Frisk was for unrelated reasons on the verge of getting caught as a hitman anyway, so he told her about his other job and they hatched the plan together.)
After deducing all this (and thus foiling Frisk's plan to take down Shkreli) Holmes and Watson manage to con the hitman Shkreli actually hired into turning on Shkreli, so Shkreli does go down for that hit, anyway.
(But Holmes and Watson's plan really used the fact that they have the police on their side, so it's not implied that it was better than Frisk's plan, they just had resources that Frisk didn't have.
Given the resources he had, Frisk and his partner's plan was brilliant, and the partner did an excellent job carrying her part, lying to the police and steering them towards Shkreli while pretending not to be Frisk's partner or know anything about his being a hitman etc.
And I loved that Frisk figured out that Shkreli had hired someone to kill the researcher when the pathologist or whoever examined the body didn't. I loved them coming up with this ambitious plan and going all in on it, I loved the son's mom playing the innocent assistant who couldn't believe her boss was secretly a hitman.
And I loved that Holmes was initially upset when he realized that he and Watson had foiled Frisk's plan to take down Shkreli, but then they come up with a way to make sure Shkreli goes down anyway.)
-
Anyway, comparing this to the Lev Red episode, I think what I really don't like about the Lev Red episode is that the actual victims of Shkreli's price-gouging had no part in taking Shkreli down
I mean, even in original Leverage, the clients almost never take part in the con (with a few exceptions like Boiler Room Job and Long Way Down Job),
but I guess when it's this close to a real life situation, it really bugs me when the actual victims are cast as helpless damsels
Anyway, I hadn't realized how much this specific aspect bothered me until I watched Breathe and realized that as long as the actual victims are portrayed as awesome and active in taking down the bad guys, I don't mind the similarity to real life as much as I thought I did

Welcome to: Yuumori’s on a break so I’m now semi-live-blogging my thoughts as I reread the canon for the first time in 20 years or so.
I’m two chapters into A Study in Scarlet and already a few things have really caught my attention (mostly about Watson actually).
1. I hadn’t realized how unwell Watson actually is when the stories start. He wasn’t only shot, he had typhoid on top of that, and is borderline an invalid when he and Sherlock move in together. He’s basically housebound and spends all his time trying to guess what exactly Sherlock does without actually asking (which is amusingly Yuumori-Sherlock-like of him) because he’s incredibly bored.
2. Watson’s a little less nice than I’d have thought. Gets up earlier than usual and then gets snippy that Mrs. Hudson hasn’t made him breakfast? Rude.
3. He’s relatably huffy when Sherlock snarks about fictional characters he likes.
4. I’ve been headcanoning their habits backwards. Sherlock is the early-to-bed-early-to-rise type and Watson’s a layabout (but he is the one recuperating, so fair enough.)
5. The little exchange of negatives when they meet is funny:
Sherlock: I have crippling depression.
John: I have PTSD and a puppy. And when I’m feeling better I will chase skirts.
6. So far I’m definitely feeling like Yuumori’s Sherlock is actually a really good adaptation of the character, and the canon is making me even fonder of him.
“No man lives or has ever lived who has brought the same amount of study and of natural talent to the detection of crime which I have done. And what is the result? There is no crime to detect, or, at most, some bungling villainy with a motive so transparent that even a Scotland Yard official can see through it.”
Poor baby, Yuumori really did him a favour by giving him a love interest nemesis who actually plays with him instead of shoving a villain in retroactively like the canon does. 🤣
Anyway my current conclusion is that Yuumori’s is the Sherlock to beat, but Jude Law is in the lead for Watsons.

* ENOLA HOLMES / ENGLISH / 2H 3M / 2020
— Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson does not appear. — Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, and Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury. — Directed by Harry Bradbeer and distributed by Netflix. — Favorite Quality: I loved Enola more than I was expecting to, Millie did a fantastic job in this role.
I will begin by admitting that I may be slightly biased in my review, as I don’t like Henry Cavill. I will not be overly negative concerning his portrayal of Sherlock (as he did an okay job), but I wanted to say it to be as honest as possible. Watching this is the third time I have attempted to get through this movie, and the only time I have ever completed it; however, I am disappointed in myself for never getting through the first half of this movie before now. The fourth wall breaking is something I do not usually enjoy, nor quirky main characters, but I absolutely loved Enola; she was so entertaining. I had a hard time watching this movie whenever Mycroft “women don’t deserve rights” Holmes and Sherlock were on screen, but whenever they disappeared, I was having the time of my life watching Enola traverse London. It did fall into the modern demand for action, which took away from the mystery; however, it did actually feel like Enola was using her intelligence to figure things out instead of fumbling into every answer without doing any work. As a lesbian, I am not overly fond of awkward teenage relationships with heterosexual couples, but God, her relationship with Tewkesbury was cute. I think I enjoyed it more than usual because they did not officially end up together, which bugs me in almost all television series and movies I watch. I liked watching them develop feelings for each other but not immediately fall into “die-for-you” love. It might also be a small note, but I appreciate the acknowledgment of choice (and force) in corsetry instead of just being demonized; it was a nice nod toward the history and discussion behind the practice. This movie was aesthetically gorgeous and fulfilled my constant demands for a film set in Victorian England that isn’t just so dark you can’t see anything. The colors were rich throughout and only suffered through the end sequence, which made sense for what was happening. The plot was interesting, and I liked how they changed tracks (in terms of the main focus) early but still managed to make everything come together satisfyingly. I will be honest and say I just could not stand Sherlock or Mycroft; I thought they were both awful and just didn’t fit the characterizations (well, maybe Mycroft did), and I often got so mad when they were on screen I was tempted to fast forward through their parts. I don’t know if we were supposed to come to love Sherlock, but I just felt he was continuously awful and did very little to aid Enola throughout the movie. Mycroft, I just wanted to push him into a puddle and beat him with a blunt object. I think I was supposed to feel that way about him, so I’m not upset; I just felt like I shouldn’t have hated Sherlock as much as I did. That was just a high-class British man with an ego and nothing underneath; at the end of the movie, I still wasn’t sure if he even cared about Enola as much as they wanted me to believe he did. The acting was not bad; I just think I did not enjoy how he was portrayed. Despite those complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and started the sequel immediately after finishing it because I wanted to watch more of Enola. As a Sherlock adaptation, I don’t think it holds up as Sherlock Holmes was unbearable, but as an adjacent media, it was one of my favorites. I haven’t cried because I felt as helpless as the characters in so long, Enola’s experiences made me so emotional throughout that I just loved her. Finally, I am proud to announce I will now be the Holmes’ stepmother because I will marry their mother if it’s the last thing I ever do. The women in this movie were all fantastic; I loved them all.

I realized why the Sherlock Holmes/John Watson ship has become so strangely pivotal to me over the past seven or so years.
Sherlock Holmes is a character which does not attempt to disguise any quality about himself, including the negative ones. He is absolutely authentic and unconcerned with what people think of him, he is primarily motivated by his interest in puzzles. He is a mental powerhouse, with a complete lack of interest in the social world. He is not motivated by greed, fame, and recognition. Only by his own fixations. Many have diagnosed Holmes as being on the Autism and/or ADHD spectrum, I am not equipped to do so, but I’ve found the general consensus is that Holmes is likely not neurotypical. He makes no attempt at masking, he is unabashedly himself, which is envious.
Often neurodivergent people mask (including myself) because they are sure their true expressions of behavior will not be accepted by others. His is generally not, yet his skills provide such a valuable service that he is still respected and utilized, though still not generally appreciated in his non-work related habits. In comes John Watson.
If one was to look closely at Watson, they would see someone who loves Holmes anyways, despite his eccentricities, without the mask. He assists him in what he loves most, and helps him through the other parts of his life which he struggles to manage. He is willing to go to the ends of the earth to assist Holmes in his cases. He assists him with his health related issues (addictions, poor eating, etc), he essentially and truly is HIS doctor. If one was to go by the fantasy of the Johnlock ship, they would find a likely deeply repressed, slow burning, intimate passion they share mixed with love, lust, annoyance, jealousy and envy. The stories were set in a time where gay interaction was seen as immoral, or harmful to health. If caught, you could be arrested. This is one point which divides the asexual vs gay argument. Many see the asexuality as a veiled implication. Nonetheless they clearly share a very deep connection, I see them both as men who experienced some kind of disconnect with society and who lean on each other. Watson, being the war. Holmes, with his social disconnect/disinterest.
Holmes is not a sociopath, for he develops true love for Watson, platonic or romantic.
“If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive.”
“You're not hurt, Watson? For God's sake, say that you are not hurt!"
“It was worth a wound -- it was worth many wounds -- to know the depth of loyalty and love which lay behind that cold mask. The clear, hard eyes were dimmed for a moment, and the firm lips were shaking. For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain. All my years of humble but single-minded service culminated in that moment of revelation.”
Watson is likely one of the first people to appreciate Holmes for every aspect of his personality, which is deeply affirming. I was bullied so terribly throughout my life that I had no choice but to mask. I have a constant fear that I will not be able to find anyone who will love me without it, and that when I do and the mask drops, they will grow to hate me. My truest self can be annoying and sometimes difficult to be around. I’ve gone throughout my life feeling like an imposter. Seeing someone truly fall in love, completely authentically, with someone like Holmes is what has kept me in the Johnlock ship for so long. As a friend told me, ‘You love it because it makes you think, if someone like Holmes can be loved, so can you.’
As a kid, I kept ‘files’ on my friends growing up. I analyzed their behavior, I had charts and graphs for what I predicted they’d do. In retrospect I felt incredibly creepy, but it was my way of attempting to understand people. Holmes’ way of deducing using fact in order to understand social situations (namely murders) has always resonated with me in an unspoken bond. The thought of someone finding that part of me ‘incredible’ has kept me here since I was fourteen. These books have given me great comfort, and the ship has given me hope that someone could actually love me for what I am.

Cause of the BBC Sherlock stuff I've been seeing I'd like remind people of Elementary
This may poke the proverbial fandom bear but I don't care this show deserved so much more love than it got.
Tumblr media
This series is Seven season of quality detective content. Each epsiode delievers on a cool mystery with a statisfying conculsion, and overarching plots arcoss multiple episodes that again give good payoff. Look I'm a person who never really cares about spoilers BUT season one's twist is so perfectly executed that I can never bare talking about it until someone has experinced it already. Like im serious its so good.
Now detractors LOVE to point out two things
1: It takes place in New York they just had to americanise it
2: why is Watson a woman? Ugh they just want to sexualize her and take the gay away
So for 1 I get the frustration it was proabably a legal/financial thing that made them go with New York. But the writers 100% use this to their advantage. utilizing the setting as a sort of metaphor for Serlock as a person particulary in season 1 & 2. He's been thrusted into New York this is not his home and he sees it as simply a new place and a fresh start. But come season 2 when he does return to London he finds it different and no longer feels at ease there. He has grown he has changed and so has the world around him. I think the writers made the best out of the situation.
2: Yyyeeeeeaaaahhhhhhhhh no
like i get WHY people assume the reason to make John Watson Joan Watson was purely to hook the characters up, like i was suspicious too when I first saw the trailers cause damn the person in charge of that did a shit job. But so theres a reason why its Joan Watson and not John Watson. In behind the scenes stuff they straight up said that in doing research they notice Sherlock is a bit of a misogynist as he regards women rather lower having just a few exceptions to  his rule that woman are silly creatures controlled by emotions. SO the writers and producers thought “Well what if his work partner IS a woman?’ and like thats actually a good idea to shake up the Holmes/Watson dynamic.
But also in all 7 seasons not once do Joan and Sherlock hook up.
NOT ONCE. THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS ENTIRELY PLANTONIC.
LET ME REPEAT THAT AGAIN A MAN AND A WOMAN ON A CABLE SERIES WHO LIVE AND WORK TOGETHER ONLY LOVE EACH OTHER IN A PLATONIC SENSE AND NO ONE BATS AN EYE TO THAT.
DO YOU REALIZE HOW HUGE THAT IS?
Tumblr media
Like Joan and Sherlock are family to each other yes earlier seasons is mostly Joan taking care and helping Sherlock but as time goes on they are far more equal. They have this great bond that’s just built on mutual trust and care and gives off the pair of siblings at times. (my favorite running gag is Sherlock finding new and creative ways to wake Watson up)
And can I say that Joan and Sherlock arent the only ones to say “I love you” in a platonic sense in this show? CAUSE THEY ARENT
This show just like shoves it in your face that strong platonic relationships are not only valid but something to be cherished and cared for just as much as romantic ones. That just being someone’s friend and being there for them when times are tough is enough and admirable. And im sorry but that shit gets me every time.
Also also Joan Watson has her own arc of finding what it is she wants in this world along Sherlocks own arc. And its not finding a man and having a child, its finding what work she likes to do and balancing it with her personal life.
And thats not even getting into the positive and well done addict recovery rep. Like they took the offhanded line that Sherlock uses opitates in the novels and said “Hey how would they effect a man like this?” Like they give such a good showcase on how really anyone can fall to addiction and just how hard it is to recover. It’s a long road and the show never lets you forgot that Sherlock could fall back and that he is not better than any other addict, that if it werent for the support network he has built the fall would be far worse.
Like god I havent even gotten into how this is the most emotionally vulnerable Sherlock and thats not treated as a negative like the show straight up says when he goes cold logic mode he’s worse as a person AND as a detective.
Tumblr media
How they show the police force they work with to be just as important  as their work.
Trans Ms. Hudson played by a trans woman, while shes not in a lot of eps she’s never made a joke of and treated as a desirable.
Autisitc person as a love interest who was not treated as a child.
Joan wasnt the ONLY person who was adapted as a different gender.
Going into the messiness of mental health and how hard finding care for it can be.
The hackers who are hilarious
Sherlock and Joans network of specialists who have knowledge they dont
CLYDE THE TURTLE
Tumblr media
Like just watch it its worth your time and will never make fun of you for engaging with the work.

Hello, I really like your blog a lot! If you still take them, I'd like to make a request. How about William Moriarty, Sherlock Homes, and Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen) neglecting their s/o because they are busy. But they make it up to them with a sensual and passionate night (nsfw pls). I hope this is okay. Take care! <3
oh yes this is brilliant. also i'm going to keep this gender neutral since a gender wasn't specified so it's smut very under the cut.
william
✧ at first you’re well aware that he hasn’t been spending time with you because he’s busy
✧ however, as time goes on, the self doubt gnaws at the back of your mind, and you don’t even realize just how much it’s been affecting you until you can’t even get out of bed one day
✧ all that runs through your head is that he’s probably neglecting you because he’s fallen out of love
✧ william’s been far to busy to see how much his lack of affection has affected you
✧ it isn’t until you can’t even look up at the table during breakfast to say hi to him, and when you do finally look up there are dark bags under your eyes and your eyes are extremely bloodshot
✧ when you see how he's staring at you in shock, you flee the table and lock yourself in your room for the entire day
✧ it isn't until it's almost midnight when william finally goes into your room, his mind running a mile a minute, that he realizes just how badly you've been feeling
✧ the entire day he had been thinking of ways to make it up to you, so by the time he's in bed with you, he already knows what to do
"my love, i'm sorry for neglecting you so much. allow me to show you how much i love you ok?" he says from on top of you, leaning down to press a kiss to your lips, swollen from you biting them. it was a nervous habit you had developed over the years.
"what do you mean?" your voice is soft, and he can hear the exhaustion in it.
"let me take care of you for the night okay?" he doesn't wait for an answer, unbuttoning the shirt you were wearing. he was pleased to see it was one from his own closet. his lips move from yours, traveling down your jawline and tracing the line of your neck. he hears a content sigh from you, and he smiles against your skin as he continue his path down your neck.
"will, if you don't love me anymore just tell me," his eyes widen as your words, one hand coming to rest next to your head as the other gently massages your hip.
"i'm so madly in love with you i can't imagine my life without you," he breathes out, moving back down to trail kisses down your naked front. "i'm so sorry i haven't been treating you the way you properly deserve," he murmurs against your skin. your honest whimpers shake your body upon feeling william's lips against your clothed groin, and you can feel his soft smile against you.
"let me treat you like the royalty you are,"
✧ ✧ ✧
sherlock
✧ he gets so caught up in his cases that he honest to god just forgets about anything else in his life
✧ he once forgot john at a restaurant they were having lunch at because he saw someone struggling with a mugger trying to steal their bag and he sprinted out to go help
✧ so you're used to him being an airhead sometimes and forgetting about spending time with you
✧ however, this time around it had been going on for weeks, and it was almost like you didn't even exist at this point
✧ the self conscious feeling had been eating away at you, and john had started to notice how you skipped meals with him and sherlock and how you rarely left your room unless it was to lock yourself in miss hudson's room
✧ once watson pointed this out to sherlock, he felt extremely stupid because how could he be so neglectful of his wonderful partner?
✧ he decides to surprise you, making sure you were tucked safely in miss hudson's room for the day so he could have time to prepare the surprise
"what is this?" your voice was shaky, the dry sobs from earlier still shaking your body. the room you shared with sherlock was awash in the gentle glow of candles on every available surface, and rose petals traced a path to the bed. sherlock was laid on top of the made up bedding, and sherlock himself was spread out on his side, his elbow on the bed as his hand supported his head. he was shirtless, loose pants barely covering his bottom half, and a beautiful red rose stuck between his teeth. it was a scene straight out of a romance novel.
"i'm making up for being a horrible, horrible boyfriend for the past few weeks," he informs you, the rose falling out of his mouth as his hand beckons you to the bed. you hesitantly edge forward, kneeling down on the bed in front of him. he could see how tense you were, body trembling as tears flooded your eyes. he got up from his spot on the bed, sitting cross legged as he drags you onto his lap, hands finding your face and holding you gently. he was scared if he held any tighter he'd shatter your delicate, beautiful aura.
"n-no, if you don't want to be together any-" his hand moves, palm covering your mouth as he shakes his head.
"you're not getting rid of me that easily. i'm here to stay, and i'm going to make up for not being there for you. i was a very stupid boyfriend, and i'm going to show you how much i love you," he murmurs quietly, hand tilting your head back as his lips find your neck. his touch is barely there, but as one hand finds your hip and the other holds your jaw in place to the side, you're aware of the fact that he's just getting started. he switches from kissing the junction between your neck and shoulder to biting down, hard, and pushing your hips down onto his. you can feel his bulge beneath you, and the moan that falls from your lips is involuntary.
"sherlock," you mumble out, eyes fluttering closed. his kisses and nips grow harder, and his hips gyrate up into yours at a steady pace. both of your breaths pick up, and both of his hands land on your hips and push you down harshly onto his. the groan that rumbles through his chest sounds heavenly, and it pulls a whine out of you.
"fuck darling, i missed you so much," he whispers against your neck, tugging at your night shirt before pulling it off completely. you're both topless, bare torsos pushed together as his finally pulls his face out of your neck and meets your gaze.
"i missed you too detective holmes," you tease, grinding your own hips down onto his. he groans loudly, flipping you two over. rose petals fly up beside you at the force, but your attention is on the man above you, and the aroused smirk plastered across his face.
"oh, i definitely missed this," he says before yanking your pants down harshly.
✧ ✧ ✧
gojo
✧ gojo-sensei honestly has a maximum of three thoughts in his head at all times, and no he's not stupid he just cannot focus on too many things at once or he'll get severely overwhelmed
✧ so between dealing with a reincarnated yuji, hiding his existence from the higher-ups, and dealing with multiple unregistered special grade curses, he just has not had extra time to spend with you
✧ you're well aware and understanding of his added stress, but your insecurities plague you despite knowing this
✧ the logical part of you knows he's just busy, but your negative thoughts simply weighed you down to the point where both yuji and nanami could see how tired you were
✧ gojo only realized how neglected you had been feeling when sukuna popped up on yuji's cheek to make a snide comment about how if gojo wasn't going to take care of his s/o properly, then sukuna would gladly take over for him
✧ immediately rushes home to spend the rest of the night with you
the frantic pounding on your shared bedroom does nothing to rouse you, and when gojo finally unlocks the door and rushes into the room, you're still laying on the bed with your back facing him.
"sweetheart?" his voice is soft, and you feel the bed dip behind you. you stay facing the wall, desperately hoping he won't see the tears sliding across your face. you're proved wrong when his hand tugs on your shoulder, moving you so you're on your back and his face is hovering over yours. his blindfold is hanging around his neck, blue eyes gazing into yours.
"yeah?" you can't stop how your voice cracks, and it only serves to further embarrass you. his face drops, arms pulling you close to him so that your body is beneath his as he hovers over you, one arm propping him up. the other hand rests on your cheek, and you can't help the onslaught of tears that follows his affection. your eyes squeeze shut, and you barely suppress a sob.
"shh, shh, no baby don't cry, i'm so sorry for how i've been acting. i've been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad boyfriend," he says, and his heart softens as he hears a small laugh from you at the reference to one of your favorite movies. "seriously sweetheart, i'm incredibly sorry for not spending time with you. am i allowed to show you how much i love you?" he asks, and when you open your eyes, you can't miss the signature mischievous glint in his startling blue eyes.
"how so?" he gazes down at your wide eyes, tears glistening on your lower lashline and mouth slightly agape in wonder. you look unbelievably beautiful, even in your sadness.
"by doing this," he leans down, kissing you deeply. you immediately respond, reveling in the sweet, familiar taste of the raspberry-flavored chapstick smeared across his lips. you don't taste it for long as his lips move to your neck, hands slithering down your body to yank at the sleep shorts sitting on your hips. once they're down, he leans back, throwing your legs over his shoulders as his lips press onto your groin through your underwear. you gasp at the feeling, warmth pooling in your gut. he smirks, hands gripping the soft flesh of your thighs.
"and what exactly is this?" you're breathless as this point, face warm and legs borderline trembling as his face sits so close to your crotch.
"the physical act of love," his eyebrows wiggle seductively, and neither of you can keep your laughs in. even when he presses another kiss to your clothed area, you'll both always find humor in the love you share together. and gojo had missed seeing you laugh with his head between your legs. he was planning on imprinting the entire night into his brain after it was over.

A study in Sherlock Holmes (s1e1)
A Study in Pink is an introduction to these characters and this universe, it sets up key plot points that are expanded on and sets up some characters that are beautifully developed and expended on throughout the rest of the series.
Sherlock is presented as an abnormally smart, lonely, and to an extent, arrogant person that lacks a filter and can be rude and disrespectful through his deductions (honestly id say that this is a pretty accurate description of sherlock throughout the first two seasons) however, he isn't a total prick, and is shown to be nice to be around.
Sherlock is ahead of everyone else around him, his brain works faster and that is also portrayed through the pace he is speaking at, unusually fast, with no doubt and a lot of confidence in the things he is saying. Quite early on, we also realise how dedicated he is to his job, as Sally said, he doesn't get paid. It becomes clear that he enjoys it (well not many people would jump around happily when they learn that there's a serial killer out there) which is what sets him out from normal people quite a lot.
Now the key point: "I'm not a psychopath, Anderson, I'm a high functioning sociopath". I think when we are first introduced to this idea, its easy to believe. We don't start doubting that idea until the later episodes, especially towards season 4. Now whatever you may think about this, whether you really do believe he's a sociopath or you think its aspergers syndrome or (/and) ADHD, or something completely different, there really wasn't a reason to doubt this idea. It's made clear that he doesn't have any close bonds, even with his own brother. He doesn't seem to show any negative emotions when he sees a woman lying dead, and actually calls the case “fun”. This shows pretty well that he knows absolutely n o t h i n g about human nature or that he is simply unable to feel sympathy. For first time watchers, I think that it gives off the idea of a mixture of these two, however, over time it leans more into him just not having enough experience with humans.
I feel like i have to talk about sexuality here, now you can believe whatever you want about his sexuality this is just my view, its alright to disagree. He pretty much denies being straight, saying that girlfriends “aren’t his [my] area”, he never actually denies that he is gay, only saying that he knows its alright. He does later go on to say that he “considers him[my]self married to his [my] work” which could mean a lack of interest. Some people also believe that he is asexual so that awkward conversation between him and John could be pointing at that idea.
There is also a small introduction to his drug problems, he establishes that “nicotine patches help him [me] think” and I inferred that its what he used harder drugs for too.
Lastly, something that really stood out to me was his confusion when John was laughing at the “welcome to London”. That small look of surprise always hits me, it also shows how he doesn't have friends or anyone to spend time with, therefore doesn't really get people laughing at his jokes or reacting positively to anything he says.
Now onto the relationships we are introduced to:
First we see Sherlock and Molly. Sherlock is either completely oblivious to Molly's affection towards him, because he's not interested in her specifically, not interested in dating overall or isn't attracted to women. He does seem to take advantage of Molly's affection for him, whether its conscious or not, even through asking her to get him coffee. I think I read somewhere that Molly was only meant to be introduced for an episode to showcase Sherlocks arrogance (but evidently came back for more episodes because of how liked she was) and that kind of sums up their relationship, especially near the beginning.
I've always seen Mrs Hudson as a somewhat parental figure to Sherlock, yes we have mummy Holmes but we never really got too much information about her until season 3. You can see that Sherlock does care for her, whether he wants to admit it or not. It's quite obvious through the hug honestly. Even from the first few minutes we can infer that Sherlock isn't all for physical contact and that hug shows that they have a close bond.
Now for Lestrade, it's clear that Graham relies on Sherlock quite a lot, whether he wants it or not (we can assume he doesn't really like being so dependent on him). He knows about Sherlocks drug habits and has known him for “5 years”. The fact that he has known Sherlock for quite a while but admits to not knowing much about him is quite telling about how closed in Sherlock is. He also clearly thinks sherlock is extraordinary talented, but lacks humanity in a way, I think this is particularly shown through the "he's a great man, he might even be a good one" phrase.
We only really get to see a glimpse of his relationship with Mycroft, but I think that even from the few minutes we get to see them interact, their relationship is conveyed perfectly. Though there is clearly a lot of resentment between them, Mycroft admits to caring about Sherlock. What's also important to note is that even Mycroft, the closest person to Sherlock probably, acknowledges that Sherlock doesn't have friends, and that he forming some sort of relationship with John is clearly odd behaviour.
Anddddd lastly, John Watson. I love the contrast between John and Sherlock, mainly through the fact that Sherlock has the brains,  but is lacking heart, and John is the exact opposite, yes he is smart for an average human being but he is nowhere near as smart as Sherlock, but he does have the heart. I feel like they are made to complete each other and when they aren't together, something always ends up going wrong (though I will explore this when it comes to later episodes). They are also very similar in an odd way, they enjoy the danger they put themselves in. When John started doubting Sherlock slightly after Sally said that “he gets off on it” Sherlock was quick to point out that “he[I] said danger, and here he[you] are”. They both enjoy the adrenaline that solving crimes gives them, and its beautiful to see that while the characters evolve, change, mature and make mistakes, that doesn't change about them.
Whoooooshhh that was a ride, anyways, i will try doing one of these a week if anyone seems to like them, let me know of anything you would add (i most definitely missed something) or just your overall thoughts, I’d love to hear them! Apologies for repeating myself so much, if you would like a summary then: Sherlock is a lonely genius.

Words Unsaid
AN: This is loosely based off of The Final Problem and is Sherlock x Reader. There is violence and death, so consider yourself warned. I hope you enjoy and as always feedback is appreciated.
Tumblr media
Emotional Context. Sherlock had once been able to deny its importance, instead, governing himself with logic and reasoning. However, his connections with his friends and the people who cared about him had started to change his mind on such matters. This came with both benefits and negatives as it had opened him up to new vulnerabilities and pain, especially now. As it was during this time that he discovered that his sister was more than just a suspicion. In fact, Eurus was a secret that scared his dear brother Mycroft more than anything else.
Sherlock struggled to retrieve any memory of her. That was at least until the name “Redbeard” was brought up. He had loved Redbeard his faithful dog and childhood best friend. He couldn’t remember what had happened to him, at least not until Mycroft filled in the gaps. Since that discovery, he, his brother, and John had left to check in on Eurus’ security. Sherlock and John wanted to prove that she had left multiple times once impersonating as a girl that Sherlock met during a case, and once as John’s new therapist. Mycroft was insistent that this was impossible, so they went to settle the matter once and for all. What they were not expecting was for it all the be a trap.
They were soon captured and forced to complete trials that tested personal morality and will power all centered around Sherlock. It seems that Eurus was fascinated by her brother and wanted to better understand him. It didn’t help that she had previously formed an alliance with Moriarty and knew more about Sherlock than he did her. But that was all Mycroft’s fault now wasn’t it? The first challenge forced Sherlock to choose either John or Mycroft to shoot an innocent man in order to save his wife. Both inevitably refused and the man in a last-ditch effort took his own life in front of them. Eurus didn’t hesitate to kill the wife, questioning the three whether or not keeping their hands clean costing two lives was any better than taking one life and leaving one to survive. She then ordered Sherlock to collect the gun, which now only had one bullet, and continue.
The next trial was equally grim. Sherlock was forced to deduce which of three brothers was a murderer provided only the gun and three pictures. To add to the suspense, she presented the three brothers hanging over the ocean tied up with weights. If they dropped they would inescapably be drowned. Sherlock made the correct deduction much to everyone’s relief, but Eurus dropped all three explaining that the life of an innocent weighs no less than the life of the guilty.
The third trial was where it got personal. There was a small wooden coffin. It was nothing special about it. Sherlock quickly deduced that it was built for a woman, one with no close family, one who was sensible, one that- he was interrupted when Mycroft brought over the lid which had a mere two words on it, “Words unsaid”.
“Whatever does that mean?” John asked.
But deep down Sherlock knew and he feared what was about to happen next.
“It’s Y/n,” he replied.
“Y/n? What does she have to do with this?”
“Why quite a lot Mr. Watson, and very good Sherlock. Now then, this ought to be fun. In a moment, I am going to give her a ring. She’s alone in her apartment which is hooked up with explosions. Now then brother, you will have two minutes to get her to say the magic words. The catch? You can’t say them yourself, you can’t give her any indication that you or she is in danger. Just play your mind games like you used to,” Eurus grinned.
“What are the magic words?” Mycroft asked.
Sherlock’s face fell into a pained expression as he considered the task at hand.
“He has to get her to tell him that she loves him,” John realized.
“Yay! Now that everyone is on the same page, let’s give her a ring.” Eurus cheered, “Oh and for added fun,” she clicked on the tv showing video of you in your flat.
Sherlock studied the video feed, you looked horrible, something had clearly upset you. He could tell that you had recently been crying. As the phone rang he prayed that you would answer it. The clock seemed to loom over him as it continued to click down. He watched as you slowly retrieved yours and glanced down at the name answering it almost immediately.
1:40
“Sherlock?”
“Ah, Y/n, I-” he started.
“I ought to kill you for giving me such a scare. Baker street exploded it’s all over the news and I’ve been trying to get ahold of you ever since. Are you okay? Is John okay? What happened?”
“We’re fine, just a little accident,” Sherlock replied calmly.
“I thought you were dead, the least you could have done was sent me a text” she whimpered.
“Oh come on now, you know I’m more clever than that, besides I’ve been busy, you know how it is” he mused.
1:20
“Y/n, do you remember the phone call we had just before Reichenbach, right as Moriarty had begun his master plan?” he asked feeling rushed.
“Of course I do, I still have nightmares from that call,”
“Well, I need you to tell me what you said that day,”
“There’s no way in hell,” you replied. Sherlock was able to see how much this upset you and clenched his eyes shut feeling the pressure.
“Please Y/n, I really need to hear it,” he begged softly.
0:60
“Sherlock, is everything alright?” you asked concerned at his unprecedented demeanor.
Eurus warned her brother to remember the rules.
“Everything is fine, I just need to hear you say it,”
“Why? This better not be one of your experiments,”
“It’s not, I promise. I wouldn’t do that, not to you,”
“I don’t get the big deal,”
“Please Y/n,”
0:30
“I-I can’t”
“Why not?”
“Because you didn’t say it back,”
0:25
“If you meant it then, if there is any chance that you mean it now, please say it again,” he begged.
“Sherlock,” you pleaded
“Please Y/n, please tell me what you said that day on the phone, our last call together before the fall,” he said with such sincerity and emotion.
0:18
“You called me to tell me that everything had been a lie, that Moriarty was right. You told me that  you only had one choice left. I begged you to stop, to wait until I could get to you, that together the two of us would figure something out. But you said it was too late,” you recalled tears streaming down your face.
“And then…” he prompted.
0:12
“And then I pleaded with you not to do it,”
“Why? What was your reason?”
0:08
You hesitated for a moment, “ because I cared about you,”
“That’s not what you said Y/n, what exact words did you say?” His own eyes were betraying him at this point.
0:03
“I told you that I loved you, that fake or not, I would still love you” you cried, “And you didn’t say it back.”
Just then the phone clicked off as Eurus ended the call.
Sherlock redirected his attention to Eurus’ screen, “Okay Eurus, I won. I made her say it. What now, what happens next?”
“Funny isn’t it? I don’t recall her actually saying the words ‘I love you’. She said ‘I loved you’ and ‘I would still love you’ and while close, I just don’t think that cuts it for me.”
“Wait!” Sherlock screamed launching forward as Eurus hit a button and he was forced to watch your apartment explode. All that Mycroft could manage was staring in shock as the tv quickly cut to black. John went to his friend who had sunk to the ground staring vacantly.
“You didn’t tell her before Reichenbach and now you’ll never be able to, tell me Sherlock, are all those complicated little emotions worth it? Because to me it seems that the emotional context is what destroys you. Now pull yourself together as the next challenge is even more enduring.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “take your time,” and shutting off her screen.
Sherlock rose to his feet and John and Mycroft hesitantly went towards the next door, turning back when they heard him whisper “no” before aggressively attacking the empty coffin taking out his rage and immediate grief. After annihilating it, he sat back against the wall.
Regretting that he could not properly console his friend, John forced himself over to Sherlock handing him the gun saying, “I know this is beyond difficult and you are being tortured, but you have to keep it together, we have to keep moving”
“This isn’t torture, it’s vivisection, we are experience science from the perspective of lab rats,”
“Right now, we are soldiers who just need to survive, this is not the time nor place for mourning,” John said firmly.
“Alright,” Sherlock agreed and John helped him up.
The three men continued to the next room where Sherlock was tasked with choosing whether to kill John or Mycroft. He made his decision, Eurus’ game was over, and he pointed the gun under his own chin taking a calculated risk.
When he awoke, he was alone in a small cell plastered with pictures from his childhood. He quickly called out for John and Mycroft. John answered explaining that he was in a well, but otherwise seemingly fine. There was no response from Mycroft.
Sherlock quickly figured out that he was not actually in a cell but rather in a collapsable structure outside his childhood home. Eurus tasked him with discovering the location of Redbeard and upped the stakes as she started filling the well that John was chained to the bottom of. Sherlock racked his brain trying to solve the same problem who’s solution had evaded him as a child. That was at least until in an escape attempt, John solved an important piece of the puzzle.
Redbeard was never a dog.
Sherlock suddenly remembered his childhood best friend Victor Trevor who his brain had so cleverly disguised to help preserve his psyche. With this new information, Sherlock was able to figure out the Eurus’ song corresponded to the gravestones with the weird dates. He quickly deciphered the message and went to free John who was running out of time.
Outside of the well, he discovered his sister, “I’m so sorry Eurus,” he spoke sincerely.
“You needed me and I abandoned you, I could have saved you,” he added.
“I just wanted my brother,” she replied childishly.
“I’m here now, and we can fix this, just free John, don’t make the same mistake you made with Victor,” he pleaded.
“I don’t want to quit playing the game, I don’t want you to leave me again,”
“I’m not going to leave, I’m going to save you,”
Not knowing how to respond she simply stepped back and allowed Sherlock to save his friend. He dove into action turning the water off and then retrieving a key carefully tossing down to John so that he could free his ankles. He searched for a moment to find what Eurus had used to get John down there to begin with and found some rope that he leveraged against a tree and tossed down to his friend.
It was as John was climbing over the side that the police cars and helicopters arrived. Mycroft’s people were there to collect Eurus, who went with them peacefully. Sherlock and John were both checked over by the EMT’s and given shock blankets. They were informed that Mycroft was safe and simply left back in Sherrinford. Once he regained consciousness, he his people and sent them in helicopters to take care of Eurus. But then? Who called the police?
“William Sherlock Holmes” you yelled slamming the door to Greg’s station car.
John and Sherlock had never turned around so fast in their lives. How were you here? Hadn’t they both watched your apartment go up in smoke? Or, was that merely another one of Eurus’ tricks?
“You’d better have a good explanation for-”
“I love you too,” he interrupted shocking both you and John.
“What?” you asked in disbelief.
“I said I love you too, I wanted to say it during that call two years ago, and I wanted to say it earlier today. I promise I will explain everything, and I understand if you no longer fill the same way, I’m sorry for not saying it before,” he confessed.
You stared at him in awe, taking a step closer still staring at him. You closed the remaining gap between the two of you and smoothly connected your lips with his allowing them to communicate for you. After an instant of shock, Sherlock reciprocated allowing the blanket to fall off of his shoulders as he pulled you in closer. When he pulled away, both of you were slightly dazed and smiling.
“You have a lot of explaining to do,” you whispered.
“That I do,” he answered.
From there, Greg dropped John and Sherlock off at John’s place where he happily greeted Molly and wasted no time collecting Rosie. The next day the three of you would meet up at 221B Baker Street and begin cleaning and repairing that flat as Sherlock did as promised and explained everything. After two weeks the renovations were complete and John and Rosie moved back in with Sherlock who had decided to utilize space in 221C for experiments to keep Rosie away from them both for her safety and his sanity.
You became more than a frequent visitor and eventually moved into one of the bedrooms of 221C however you spent far more time in Sherlock’s bed than in your own. You watched Rosie as the boys went out on cases and would occasionally tag in for John. Being in a relationship with Sherlock was interesting to say the least, but you wouldn’t trade a second of it.

The Johnlock Conspiracy Conspiracy
First of all this is going to be building off a point first cast into relief for me by Sarah Z’s video on The Johnlock Conspiracy. She is both directly connected with the experience of this space and did the research into the actual history of the people involved, a sort of on-the-spot observer recounting her experiences ethnographically. If you want a longer form deep dive on what The Johnlock Conspiracy is, check out that video. I will be providing a quick summary.
I’m also going to talk about fanagement, which I wrote about last year, which is about the way that fan engagement was seen as being a thing that corporate entities could deliberately engage for commercial ends. Fanagement isn’t necessarily an inherently evil or corrupting thing, but it’s something to know about as something that exists, and knowing it exists can colour your relationship to the media created in response to fanagement.
Tumblr media
There’s this idea of ‘The Johnlock conspiracy.’
In the agonisingly mediocre BBC mystery drama Sherlock that ran from who cares to also who cares, starring in the loosest sense of the word Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (a man ‘renowned’ for this, The Office and the Hobbit trilogy, on a scale of poisonous influence to actual outright evil), as a modern day re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson that has some interesting ideas that it absolutely does not use well, mysteries that are not interesting and a relationship tension that was making itself up as it went along. Much ink has been spilled about how this series is not very good, and that’s good, because it’s a very expensively made bad series that banks on the reliable draw of the same fistful of boring privilege.
Part of what made it popular, sort of, was the tension of the relationship between John and Sherlock. See, they were both men, you see, and what if they kissed.
Now, tumblr is, by volume, mostly connections to other parts of tumblr. If you make something popular, it becomes amplified and exploded and brought to the attention of others and curated into lists. Content that gets shared is the very sinew of what Tumblr is, which means that doing things people share around is a strange form of primacy on the site. Making content is powerful, heady, druglike. Commanding curation where you determine what does and does not get shared is even moreso. It is a space for an audience that is engaged deeply with the concept of being engaged, and in this space, fandom happened.
There’s not a lot of Sherlock. There were big gaps between the seasons. When a season came out, it did not explain itself or deliver on its promise at all. It is, as I’ve said, bad. But it was well made and used actors you’d heard of and was treated as being prestigious and so, when the show came out, and because people liked the idea of what it could be, fandom struck on a conspiracy:
What if this terrible show is secretly great?
And I understand the impulse. It’s heart to a lot of fandom. I can’t possibly have spent this time and energy on something I don’t like, it must be that the thing I like is secretly this thing I really like. And so scaffolding comes out to buttress the idea. We’re not taught that fandom is right – we’re taught that fandom is something that justifies itself by being right. If you have a story in your heart about a Dark Fuckprince and his soft bean injured Watson, that story is real and right, and doesn’t need the official endorsement of the BBC to be good.
Without that armour of love, though, instead the fandom turned into this endless oroborous of hostility centered around three people, who seem to just be total dickheads, great job you. This resulted in the blossoming of what was known as ‘the Johnlock Conspiracy,’ where through thousands of pages of well intentioned fumes, these fans huffed themselves into believing that Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis were secretly building up to exactly what they wanted, and they were the smartest people ever for noticing it. The lack of payoff of their beliefs and the active hostility Moffat had to their ideas and positions in person, that was all part of the conspiracy.
Oh, by the way, that idea – conspiracy – is when you have an unfalsifiable conjecture. If you can’t prove it false, no matter what, that’s when you’re dealing with a conspiracy theory.
The dramatic conclusion to all this was the series ended, their conspiracy was wrong, they theorycrafted themselves a few more months of content, and then most people let it drop.
But what if I told you there was a conspiracy?
Tumblr media
Because there was. It just wasn’t the conspiracy they thought.
See, a conspiracy is a real thing: it’s a secret plan to do something harmful. And the BBC, since they published the work that Matt Hill described in Torchwoods Trans-Transmedia: Media Tie-Ins and Brand Fanagement, worked with the parameters of their experiment aggressively.
The idea, as I outlined in my article about Fanagement was that making the program so it could engage fans directly, and give fans feelings of creative ownership over the work would drive viewership and the kinds of engagement they liked (like, paying for things). Fanagement sought to make media ‘gifable’ – low saturation backgrounds with cuts of under a second so you could break a scene apart easily and conveniently. It wanted to make fan media easy to make, and to minimise hard declarative statements.
The lessons learned from this paper included things like ship teasing as a deliberate task – and I do mean teasing, with the idea that you had to do it in deniable and ambiguous ways. Making things definite wouldn’t get you as much fan engagement as keeping things ambiguous, because fans would make an inference based on what you show them, talk about it, then other fans would watch it again to make sure they could argue with you about it.
A mystery show like Sherlock was perfect for this kind of treatment. Treating the series as if there was some really deep, thoughtful question at the heart of it meant that there was always a reason to keep from ‘revealing’ the secret of the story, to string the audience along, like they’d believe or tolerate it, if it was all in service of a clever explanation. You get it, right? After all, we gave you all the clues.
The toxic fandom of Sherlock did not form as much as it was fostered.
Tumblr media
A lesson from this experience, a lesson easily escaping notice, is that it’s not that ‘fandoms are all the same.’ They really aren’t. They are wildly varying in the terms of their problems and those problems root causes. What they tend to have in common is dynamics, but those dynamics are expressed in a lot of different ways. It’s not that ‘fandoms’ naturally become toxic and awful. There are fandoms that are generally, quite nice, and they tend to be that way because of the values of the central movers and shakers and the conscious willingness of people who perceive themselves as part of the fandom as taking care of it. The dynamic is the same – you have common nexuses of community that people interact with – and the kind of behaviour that’s acceptable and reasonable is filtered through them. If the idea of asking people to modify their behaviour or respect people’s boundaries is seen as unreasonable, then you can get a toxic space.
Also, as I talk about ‘toxic fandoms,’ understand toxicity is relative. There is, after all, a very real, very unironic Hitler Fandom, and they are probably one of the worst fandoms out there. Being a mean lawyer on the internet is bad, and I’ve no doubt the fandom curators known now as the Powerpuff Girls absolutely wrecked some teenagers’ lives – like, there are definitely people with, I am not joking or being hyperbolic, some PTSD triggers about (say) Tumblr or whatnot, based on the kind of social force these people were leveraging.
And then remember that holding that lever at the high end, right at the top with the most power over it was a company that made TV shows that was trying to make sure you watched their shows.
Also: The tools for doing this are available to all the companies that read the paper.
My advice? Exhort and uplift queer creators. Be positive about it, not negative. Don’t make your time about attacking other people’s dark fuckprince. Bring what you like to life, and bring that life into the light. Share and love each other, rather than find reasons to be mad at one another for how you’re all playing with toys a corporation wants you to treat with respect and only play properly. And as always, the standard you walk past is the standard you accept – so make sure your fandom circles aren’t putting up with some Powerpuff Girls.

tagged by @icosagens!!! such an eloquent and stunning writer with a sharp sense of humor srsly go check him out on ao3! <3 Specifically check out his JayDickDonna fic, CHCl3 which is beautiful and painful and just E V E R Y T H I N GGGGG.
I'll put everything under the cut so there isn't a terrible amount of scrolling for those wishing to skip <3
Rules: list the first lines of your last ten stories. See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line.
Anchors of Mortality
AKA my new passion project where Dick has a savior complex and no self-preservation skills featuring a Constantine who just wants to Tap That, a Zatanna who is tired and also wants to Tap That, and a host of resurrected characters because Dick can't let things lie or die. Ships include JayDick and Magic^2Dick (or Dick/Zee/Constantine)
Life ends and life begins in rain, at least as far as Dick Grayson is concerned. His parents died on a rainy day, ice-cold droplets seeping in through the bright, thick cloth of the circus tents. A drizzle, Haly had called it beforehand, telling them not to worry. But rain is an omen – a warning – of an uncertain future, of conflicting emotions and thoughts. It had been a sign he’d been foolish to ignore, a sign Haly had been foolish to ignore.
everything casts a shadow
AKA SladeDick with Slade being the Worst and Dick straight up not having a good time
Zatanna used to say that rain has a cleansing effect on the heart and the soul – and the cock, Constantine would always interject with a filthy leer of promise. Rain purifies negative energy from a space, murder or magic, and rain settles the anxious mind. The three of them had made love in the rain once, intertwining limbs and the glow of magic refracted throughout the cold droplets. Three hearts aligned in a crystalline world of skin and water, for a perfect moment.
a prayer for which no words exist
JayDick where Dick has issues and needs therapy. Like a true emotional support/projection character, he reads instead.
On nights he can’t sleep, he reads.
Dick’s always enjoyed books, had grown up with yellowed pages musty with the scent of age as comfort and entertainment, but he’d stopped reading frequently when he’d grown up. With everything else, with responsibility atop responsibility atop responsibility as he’d aged, he hadn’t the time or the mental capacity to love reading like he had before. He hadn’t been able to focus or concentrate, always oscillating between too keyed up and too exhausted. The words, when he’d try and sift through the neurochemical adrenaline high and sift through the luring temptress of melatonin and sleep deprivation, would float and float and float away like distant birds migrating to a new land.
i'm addicted to the way you hurt (i don't mind if you fuck up my life)
JayDick where Dick is a female and also depressed but not in a sexy way. Very Spuffy s6 vibes if ya know what I mean.
When she comes back to life, her world is a nuclear green.
She’s embraced by something; it cradles her, like she’s a precious bundle of jewels, like something perfect to be coveted. There’s warmth where she rests her head, breasts pillowed beneath her, and she’s held close enough to feel that rhythmic cadence like a siren call to life.
warning signs can feel like they're butterflies (i won't stop 'till i get where you are)
Johnlock fic because I got into the fandom late where Sherlock just can't say no and everyone is sad.
He shoots her blackmailer on Christmas Day on the front porch of a cold mansion.
It’s a good shot – clean, precise – with an entry wound and an exit wound. Bits of brain matter coated in blood spatter at Magnussen's back, a dead-eyed look of shock in his empty eyes.
hold your breath 'till we're in too deep (my love is a mood ring)
JayDick where Dick just wants to love Jason and people (*cough* Jason *cough*) make this a difficult venture.
The thing is: Jason Todd is dead.
The thing is: Jason Todd is holding a detonator in his right fist and a gun in his left, both pointed in Dick’s direction in a fairly menacing way.
The thing is: Dick’s vision is blurry from what may or may not be a concussion and there are little floating Batmen spinning around his head in diapers like a horrifying rendition of Cupid, so his assessments may not be entirely accurate.
i wanna waste my youth on you
DickDonna where Dick Grayson is a fucking simp for Donna Troy but aren't we all? (the correct answer is yes. if you said no, only god can help you now.)
He’s ten and she’s eleven and she’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.
heart on your sleeve like you've never been loved (running in circles now look what you've done)
Johnlock and Adlock where Sherlock picks sex over drugs and John is Not Pleased.
It starts right after the funeral dressed up as a wedding. Tables of decorations he’d picked, dishes he’d selected, color pallets he’d painstakingly coordinated and plotted. John and Mary’s song, weaved from his tears and his blood spilt like ink over the dancefloor as his violin grieves with him.
She’s pregnant. Sherlock smiles, as the best friend is meant to, and John smiles, as the father is meant to, and Mary smiles and it’s all normal and proper and Sherlock’s frozen before she pulls John away with something so horribly knowing in her eyes, before they kiss sweetly on a dancefloor he’d helped pick and lose themselves in throngs of friends and family.
light at the beginning of the tunnel (but he tells me that i'm dreaming)
Johnlock where Sherlock pines and does drugs post T6T.
He hadn’t intended to return. Victorian London holds its own sort of allure, delicious danger at every corner, nothing but pure intellect unaided by modern machinations to solve puzzles of every sort—
(a John Watson that still looks at you like you hung the sun and the stars just for him, like you’re the center he orbits, a gravity he doesn’t care to escape. A place where deductions still evoke tenderness, approval. Where John Watson still wants to hear your voice and cares for you, even with Mary.)
—but it had been dangerous. It had been utterly reckless, a calculated OD with no less than five compounds of varying effects, each boosting the others into a delightful failing of his heart that hadn’t lasted because his transport’s tenacity outweighed his mind’s desires. The fanciful realm where his life hadn’t gone to complete and utter shite had never been a conscious plan. Sherlock hadn’t intended for his brain to grasp for a chain, a link to reality in the form of delusions and hallucinations and awful attempts at honesty. He hadn’t planned for a did you miss me? Despite all his claims to the contrary at the time.
me and you are such a beautiful tragedy (in love with agony)
JayDick Jason wants to be a good person but he's horny. AKA the new pitch for evil: come to the dark side, we have great sex or your ex that can and will kill you if you don't.
The thing about the Lazarus Pit is it consumes you. It’s greedy, like Midas’s touch on a cellular level. It replaces the old with the new – with it – carving a home in blood and soul for its will. For its intentions, passive though they seem at first. Mental stability is only one cost of such a bargain, but it’s by far the worst.
I mean, I used rain as a symbol/parallel twice but mehhh. I don't think I'm super duper set in any formula as far as first lines go. I think my fave would either be the Lazarus Pit line or the nuclear green one. I love my Pit consequences, okay?

Unpopular Opinion: Johnlock edition
So, I am, as invariably suggested by my blog and username, a major Sherlock fan. I absolutely love it. The first time I watched it, I immediately related to it, and my peabag brain instantly saw a friend in John Watson. Sherlock’s character, on the other hand, was quite unconventional to me. I couldn’t bring myself to quite like him for the first 2 episodes. He was.....different. I knew I wanted to watch the series just for the dynamic duo and their and sweet friendship. The cases I couldn’t at first care for much, but eventually that changed too. I always was completely amazed by how well they had managed to adapt the series to the 21st century and their subtle winks to the original canon too was quite impressive. Eventually, I fell in love with it, and proceeded to watch the entire series thrice. in a row. I was, and still am, completely obsessed.
Then came the thought, which was also somehow initially suggested subtly by the show itself, ” What if Sherlock and John are in Love?” I must agree, I had read too many conspiracy theories about certain celebs being closeted to not come up with that question.
At first it was just a thought. But then, critical analyses on tumblr came up. I couldn’t stop reading them?! and so many of them were thought-provoking and persuasive and honestly, I was living for it. The phone = heart theory is still one of the best Theories I’ve read among all the fandoms I’ve ever been in. And that is just one among many. JohnLock was everywhere. Other ships were persistent, but none could reach the amount of fervor as JohnLock. And I was living for it too. I still really enjoy all the adorable fanfics and the ever-interesting theories, and honestly, at this point, my motto is “I’ll find homoerotic subtext even if it kills me”.
Shipping is ok, shipping is good. But here’s the deal we need to talk about:  we shouldn’t justify our ships to the point of interpreting every action as romantic. This propagates unrealistic expectations and results in harmful stereotypes.
Yes, I’m talking about the unending debate on Johnlock.
From season one itself, Johnlock was phenomenal. It is widely argued that  the show-runners themselves inserted subtle hints, and hence, birthed this beast on their own. The Sherlock fandom remains one of the oldest fandoms in the world, with its beginnings rooted in the Nineteenth Century when ASiS was published, and since then many have argued about the latent homosexual subtext embedded into the writing, my point here being people have been shipping Johnlock for well over a hundred years. Hence, It’s not really a surprise that people are still drawn to this ship. But to be shipped by this magnitude of people? This invariably suggests that there’s material provided to us by the creators themselves that is very blatantly obvious about the relationship. And while in most cases shipping two characters is completely okay in itself, according to me, shipping Johnlock has further validation in the fact that there is proof of intent of it becoming canon eventually (at least in the first two seasons).
Like I said before, shipping is OK, shipping is good.
But is shipping okay if we take it to the point of over-analysing every move?
Sherlock is a comfort character for me. God knows half of my maladaptive daydreams are about him being a father figure towards me. My entire twitter tl and Tumblr dashboard is stuffed with cutesy or angsty things about him, and that’s great! But being in the fandom for about eight months, I’ve realised how this sort of feed eventually resulted in me completely forgetting the original storyline, and more importantly, in me forgetting how flawed a character Sherlock is!
Everyone(including me, the first time) freaks out in HLV because of how Sherlock isn’t listed as John’s pressure point. I, however, think we should question ourselves: Why should John still consider Sherlock that tantalizingly close to himself as he was in the beginning? John learnt his best friend had died, and he decided to do the bravest thing he could: make peace with it and move on. BUT NO! The Ghost of the man who loved him returned from the grave to haunt him! Here I talk about the other possible reasons why Sherlock wasn’t a pressure point for John in HLV.
I am tired of this constant sugarcoating of Sherlock’s character. I am tired of seeing constant posts about how Sweet and caring Sherlock is and how much he loves John and how he loved her more than Mary. I am done with over analysis of every single shot where Sherlock looks at John, completely done. This shot below? It’s been overused for so many fanfics and cheesy romantic lines that I forgot that it’s supposed to be a look of GUILT.
Tumblr media
Anyone who knows me knows that I love sherlock so dearly because he’s a very unlikeable character. That is precisely what sets him so far apart from the other characters. Sherlock started off with a hateful and dismissive character, but through the course of the events he undergoes a lot of emotional development. And that is truly noteworthy. In TFP he said for Mycroft, “ He did the best he could (for Eurus)...” and that is truly sentimental. This sort of development is always heartwarming.
What I want people to understand is that Analysis is, obviously, important. And CRITICAL ANALYSIS more so. And it’s saddening to see so many people glossing over the critical part of the analysis. Why is it so wrong to point out HOW HURTFUL SHERLOCK’S ACTIONS TOWARDS JOHN HAVE BEEN?  Why is it wrong to to point out Johnlockers borderline bully other shippers?
Can we finally talk about the problematic aspects of Johnlock, or rather Johnlockers?
Even though I’m relatively new to the fandom, I’ve noticed how dismissive people are of anything negative said about Sherlock. In the beginning, it was endearing, really; but now I see this pattern of constantly singing praises of Sherlock’s character, and it has lead me to realize how detrimental it can be to the relatively younger audiences. Sherlock is Rude, period. There’s no question about it. And this constant glorifying of his rudeness and arrogance and dismissing it as  a quirk could very well possibly give the impression that arrogance and vanity are in fact not so bad, and hell, it might make one seem a little cooler even ! Oh, don’t be mad if I act like my comfort character ! I’m quirky like that !
Constant bashing of the creators. And when I say constant, I mean it. This sort of bashing about is never-ending. And when I say this, I don’t mean that the creators were perfect; some of their mistakes were, quite frankly, blatantly ignorant ( like Irene the Canon Lesbian falling for Sherlock), but I don’t see enough people praising it for what it is. Even now there is so much slander against the creators ( and personally I feel bad for Mark Gatiss because he’s actually on twitter and is constantly spammed). Is it really a surprise that the creators hate the fans and especially the Johnlockers? Was it supposed to be so shocking when Martin said that being in the show wasn’t very fun anymore because of the fans?
We just don’t actually analyze anymore! I get that we haven’t got any new content for FOUR muheffing years but please I literally don’t see anything that’s actually interesting or analytical anymore and that kills me because that was the reason I joined this fandom- to read and comprehend the subtext, and the AMAZING META!  All I see are cute couple-ish pics of ben and Martin and tbh we can do so much better than that?!
Johnlockers have so much actual stuff to talk about? There is literally so much going on Subtextually, and yet all I see is people losing their mind over any interaction between Sherlock and John. This is so unfair! AND it’s detrimental too! With people painting every interaction as romantic in nature, the younger teenagers in this fandom who might not have experienced Love or Attraction may glean unrealistic ideas about them! It is difficult as it is to navigate oneself through romantic entanglements, let alone being fed such rose-colored ideas! And I say this because although I don’t know much about the audience on Tumblr, but Stan Twitter is like, (at least) 50 percent teenager-fuelled. It actually isn’t healthy for them at all.
Stop with the Benedict-worshipping for God’s sakes. Are you only in here because of him? We all get it, he’s absolutely stunning but come on, we’re here for the stories too right?
Romantic love is important, no doubt. But you know what’s completely overlooked? The platonic sort of love. And it’s tiring. Sherlock and Molly/Janine/Irene/John are all amazing duos and each pair has it’s own uniqueness and tang to it! Let’s not constantly dissect everything in the name of shipping, shall we?
lol looking back at it, I feel like it’s a vent rant for the prevailing circumstances on Stan Twitter. I apologize if anything I said hurt anyone, it wasn’t meant to. I completely understand that shipping people is for...recreation (?) but this was just my opinion. Let me know what you think about it!

* ШЕ́РЛОК В РОССИИ / RUSSIAN / 1S 8E / 2020
— The English translation of this series is Sherlock in Russia, but it is also known as Sherlock: The Russian Chronicles. — Maksim Matveyev as Sherlock Holmes and Andrey Feskov as John Watson. — Vladimir Mischukov as Doktor Kartsev, Yevgenia Mandzhieva as Aigul Valikhanova, and Irina Starshenbaum as Sofya Kasatkina. — Directed by Nurbek Egen and distributed by START. — Favorite Episode: (S1E4) Игра на струнах ветра. Часть 2/ Playing on the Strings of the Wind. Part 2.
I’m not quite sure where to start; I think a lot of this show simply left me speechless. Whether positively or negatively, I have not yet figured it out. The premise of this show is that after an accident during the pursuit of Jack the Ripper, John is left in a coma, and Sherlock manages to figure out that he needs to follow the mysterious figure to Russia. When he gets there, he befriends a local doctor, with whom he takes up residence, and the two then begin to solve crimes in St. Petersburg. The series spans eight episodes and four cases, each having two parts, roughly two hours for every storyline. I did a little research into the history behind this series, and while I didn’t find much, I did learn that this is the first Russian series to adopt an entirely original screenplay, which I enjoy. I think series that just do whatever they want are much more interesting, don’t get me wrong, I love the original stories, but there are only so many times a person can watch The Hound of the Baskervilles. Sherlock in Russia is confusing; I think that would be the best way to explain it. There are times when I was thoroughly engaged and had fun with this Sherlock, and other times I wanted to reach through the screen and shake him like a ragdoll. I remember there is one scene where I didn’t know if he would drink the poison, and when he didn’t, I was so thankful because I thought he would accept this drink from this dangerous man, and I had to pause the show and walk away I got so worked up. He was so close to being Sherlock, but sometimes he would do/say something, and it would just miss the mark; although I will say, I appreciate how emotional this Sherlock is. It does not always fit, but I loved seeing this man look like a drowned cat for eight episodes. John Watson does not appear conscious in this series; Sherlock is telling his stories through a series of letters that are being read aloud to the unconscious Watson by Lestrade. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think; I love John Watson, and having him semi-replaced by a different doctor? I went in not expecting to like Kartsev. The joke’s on me, however, as now I’m heartbroken that I will never be able to see him again unless I choose to rewatch this series—he is the love of my life, and I adore his character growth and importance to Sherlock. It was an effective way to give Sherlock a guide in Russia, replacing John with someone who could help a British detective find footing in the St. Petersburg community and police department. Also, I love him. The cases themselves are… well, they’re something. They progressively get more outlandish, and I found myself both enjoying them and being gob-smacked about what was happening. It got to a point where I was like, yeah, sure, that’s possible, whatever. I apply this same thinking to the romance of this show, I still have no idea how I feel about Sherlock and Sofya, but I just closed my eyes and pretended I couldn’t see what was happening. Kartsev and Aigul, on the other hand, were adorable, and I would have preferred to watch them than whatever was happening with Sherlock and Sofya. On the note of Sofya, I want to say that her character is devoted to her deaf son, and Russian sign language and the deaf community are a prevalent part of her story, and it made me so happy (sign even being used to help with one of the cases). The stylization of this show was the most confusing for me; the music is the part I want to talk about the most. It is likely a personal preference, but rap/pop music in period pieces is an odd choice. There were a lot of artistic scenes in this series, and I appreciate it, but sometimes the “hallucination” scenes felt weirdly framed and were beyond confusing. That seems to be the motto of this series, entertaining but confusing. I think if you have the chance, this is something you should watch, but I also think it’s something you can skip—except I also feel like everyone should get to experience Doktor Kartsev.
Finally, Jack the Ripper was a gorilla who tricked women by offering them grapes; that’s what I am choosing to take away from this series.

Matchup Requests: CLOSED
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Match up request for: @ imightsecretlybeadragon
Okie dokie. I match you with...
Tumblr media
I love your tag name, hun
I had to ship you with Sherlock himself
I was originally considering Mycroft but he honestly can't handle spontaneity
That's more Sherlock's thing
Although the number of hobbies you have tried your hand at, only to drop most of them, tells me that you grow bored easily and hence need things to occupy your time
So does Sherlock. Except his methods of quelling boredom are not nearly as tame as candle making.
He'll keep you on your toes
I also considered Mary as a potential match but finding information on her online is incredibly scarce, for some reason. RIP
I believe that your ambition, drive, and willingly to throw reason to the wind and embark on thoughtless adventures is the perfect reason why you would mesh so well with Sherlock Holmes. You would totally be willing to jump out of windows or attempt crazy experiments with him instead of judgmentally staring as most would
As much as Sherlock enjoys John's company, he cannot handle people asking him questions all of the time
Either they need to be on the same level as him- or shut up and do as he says until he reveals his thought process in some theatrical way
While you may not be able to under exactly where that man's mind is at, you are definitely smart enough to understand the general gist and decide for yourself whether or not you want to follow through
Because sometimes Sherlock really needs someone to look him in the eye and say "no". Instead of passively being yanked around like a dog on a leash.
Both of you have a habit of becoming so engrossed in your work that you forfeit biological functions like sleep. Sherlock really appreciates your understanding in regards to this because he knows that you will not disturb him.
But when he is going on three days without sleeping or eating, your more nurturing side will step in, force him to rest and give that man some damn sustenance.
Which is why I feel like you would work very well with him. You know when to back off and give him the space he needs, but you aren't complaining like him because you also know when the is challenging the limits of what his human body can handle and will step in to make sure he actually takes care of himself
Like, dude. Take a freaking shower, you both look and smell like a writhing sack of horseshit
Sherlock would probably find your tendency to be loud quite intrusive. He claims that "even your thoughts are loud. I can feel you thinking. Stop that." And promptly kick you out of the room
Try not to be too offended by him
He is like a toddler. He doesn't know any better
But feel free to give him a scalding tongue lashing afterwards
Sherlock would never admit it, but he does genuinely care for you. And it can sometimes be hard to tell. He constantly berates and criticizes you. But only because he is worrying over your well being and gets super mad if you do sometimes that puts your life in danger. Sherlock can't even bear the thought of losing you, and like everything else he doesn't like, he chooses to ignore or "delete" it. So when that fear becomes a reality,  he flips out, masquerading his concern as anger. Because he does not want to appear weak
His criticism comes from a well meaning place. He genuinely wants you to improve and do the best you can in life to become successful, he is just piss poor and phrasing. Instead his critiques come off as purely negative. You may have to remind him of this and he would be quick albeit awkward to correct.
If you show him a painting:
"No, the lines are all wrong. The focal point should be here, but because you used 45° angles, the focal point ends up down here."
Cue an unamused look from you
"What? Oh... uh. Y-your use of colour palate is... adequate...."
He's trying
~
Knowing Sherlock, you did not really ever "meet"
At least not how most people would
The first time you met, Sherlock had you pinned beneath him on the ground, demanding that you take off your clothes.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Let's start from the beginning
You were near Hyde park, cloaked in a heavy woolen coat to combat the biting cold of the winter-scape around you
With your hands shoved deep in your pockets in an attempt to warm them, you continued at a brisk pace, wanting to get back to your flat before the scheduled snowfall
That was when a dude on a motorcycle nearly careened into you. You jumped back and glared over your shoulder, fully prepared to tell him off. Instead, what you saw rendered you speechless
The guy who almost hit you was wearing a... bunny head mask. What the hell?
So distracted by this weirdo on the motorcycle, you did not notice another man in a black trench charging down the way. He actually did hit you from a full sprint.
The force of the impact knocked the air from your lungs and caused you to fall over, he taking a tumble shorter thereafter
The man, now having you stretched out beneath him, seemed entirely preoccupied. If he recognised the implications of your situation, he gave no indication to it.
He spared you a single glance before looking back after the motorcycle bunny guy.
"I need your jacket, now!" He demanded, not once looking at You
"Excuse me?" You asked.
"Jacket!" He demanded again. "Take it off!"
Were you being robbed?
If you were, this was one weird ass mugger.
Another man came jogging up, his breath short and strained as she rested his hand on his knees. He looked horrified then apologetic  "Sherlock! Get off her!"
The rude trench coat fella scrambled to his feet, as if just now realising he had been on top of you. He must be Sherlock.
The second man continued. "I'm sorry about him, we aren't mugging you. We would just like to borrow your jacket for a few minutes."
"Watson, he is getting away!" Sherlock complained
You removed your coat, and handed it over, completely confused. What else were you supposed to do?
The cold air bit your exposed skin, sending goose-flesh across your arms as you shivered from the chill
Sherlock and his big ass coat moved at a dead sprint towards an ice-crusted fountain
Watson sighed and extended a hand to help you up. He shrugged off his own jacket, offering it to you.
You immediately refused his gesture, despite the sheer cold causing you to shiver.
Watson frowned slightly at the rejection, his forehead creasing
You watched as this Sherlock character leapt onto the fountain,  nearly losing his footing as she scrambled across. The motorcycle man had almost reached the road, if he got there, he would be lost.
Sherlock pursued him, jumping over gates and pushing past pedestrians to cut him off on the main trail.
You did not think he would make it, but remarkably, he did. He stood before the motorcycle your jacket extended in front of him
Bunny guy did not hesitate to charge at him, probably planning to run him down
Your breath hitched in your throat as you gazed at the scene. Like a matador facing off against a bull... except Sherlock had no sword. No back up. Just a jacket. How in the world was he going to stop a guy on a motorcycle with only a jacket???
You watched in anticipation, the cold you felt completely forgotten as the motorcycle drew nearer and nearer.
Sherlock did not once hesitate nor flinch. He remained rooted in spot, his eyes steely with determination
The bunny suit man got within a single metre of Sherlock.
You thought for sure that you were about to witness a collision.
You were wrong
Sherlock threw your coat then rolled out of the way.
The coat hit the back wheel as it spun, getting snagged in the shifting gears and mechanisms.
It wrapped itself around the back wheel, seizing it up and causing the motorcycle to skid out, slipping across the ice before colliding into a nearby tree.
Sherlock was quick to pounce, restraining the bunny suit guy.
You were absolutely amazed. Both you and Watson seemed to have the same idea as you rushed over. Watson scolding Sherlock for pulling the stunt and you out of concern for your poor coat.
~
It wasn't long before the police arrived. Apparently bunny guy was some sort of expert thief turned murderer known for his iconic bunny suit. The cops have been after him for months and Sherlock had been the one to flush him out and trap him
You were mostly distraught over the loss of your jacket.  It was a good jacket, now completely lost to the motors and gears on the cycle
Watson promised that he would buy you a new one.  He even invited you back to his flat for some tea because he was worried you would catch cold if you walked all the way back to yours
You were going to refuse and just take a cab, then you learnt that Watson and Sherlock were flatmates.
How could you say no?
You just met some of the most interesting people on the planet, how could anyone say no to tea with them?
Sherlock seemed adamantly against the idea, complaining loudly about Watson "taking home too many strays" because "they ruin my work."
"You should have thought of that before you ruined my favourite jacket." You retorted
They were both taken aback by your wit
Watson appeared rather smug. "Yeah. You could have just used your own."
Sherlock seemed positively offended that anyone would dare suggest such a thing. "Not my coat! The coat is iconic."
Watson just rolled his eyes
~
Despite getting off on the wrong foot, you and Sherlock hit it off rather nicely
You were amazed by his observational abilities, but shocked him by understanding how he came to his conclusions before he even explained.
This was when Sherlock began to like you
And Sherlock doesn't like anyone
It kinda baffles John, really
Sherlock, finding you rather entertaining, is fine with you popping in for tea every once in a while.
He even let you assist on cases
This is where he really began to fall for you
He admires your intellect and thought process, considering it formidable albeit slower than his own
Let's be real, it's Sherlock
But things kinda start out rough
At first, when Sherlock first realises that he has feelings for you, he "deletes" them
It's scary admitting when you fancy someone
And not just scary. Dangerous. Especially for Sherlock.
He can't allow himself to be focused on anything except for work
Of course, the more time he spends with you, the more his feelings keep coming back, regardless of how often he deletes them
So he pushes you away
He lashes out
Becomes cold and distant, trying to make you give up
But you won't. You're having the time of your life with him and always comes back. No matter how many times he yells for you to go away. Its infuriating, actually
There will come a point where Sherlock has to make peace with his own attractions but it will be very difficult for the both of you
You will have to work with him through this
Cause Sherlock is not going to be an easy catch. And an even harder one to keep
But I have faith in you.
I hope you enjoyed dear, let me know what you think :)
