Iceman. Ice cold, no mistake and—wait he has a kid?! | Top Gun Fanfic ❄️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: The day people find out about Iceman’s private life would be the day he makes sure, he knows it firsthand. In other words, Tom Kazansky meets his future wife the day his fellow pilot finds out about his daughter.
Established father daughter relationship: Iceman & Skysolo
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tom “Iceman” Kazansky x Hazel "Daredevil" Quinn
Note: Pre-Top Gun Maverick, so Amber Kazansky is around 5-7 years old
——
There were many things Iceman was, or least how he presented himself to people. Strong, levelheaded, flies ice cold and no mistake if he had a say in it.
Some people were honest a bit scared of the man, might even idolized him, and even rather intimidated to say the least due to his looks.
Yeah sure he was rather layback and chill, cracking a few wisecracking jokes with his teammates and family. Swearing his cheeky smile with pride. Ask Maverick or Slider, they’ll tell ya the truth to that showing smile.
But one thing that Iceman made sure was to keep his private life separate from his aviation one. At home, he was just Tom. Tom Kazansky.
And there is a reason why.
His daughter.
Amber Nic Kazansky.
His angelcake, his little snowball, and his reason to keep fighting. His angel eyes. He kept her private from the public eye, safe and sound in his arms. Mentioning his kid every once in a while at work but people always assumed he was talking about Maverick’s kids or Goose’s son.
Because he was considered their uncle, to everyone on base.
But they don’t ever assume his own. He didn’t blame them, he never specifically said his daughter name out loud to the masses to hear. Only his close family and friends knew about Amber’s existence. She was one of Maverick’s sweethearts afterwards and Slider’s little glamorous girl.
And if ever did his angel eyes to work, he made sure she never left his sight. It was a big place, she could get lost however Amber was smart enough to know her way around the base too, even if Tom liked it or not…
Such as today.
Tom wasn’t supposed to have work that weekend, it was Sunday for gods sake but his bosses had other plans for the Lieutenant Commander. He was called in to finalize some paperwork, check on installations and probably head to some meetings. Which meant he would be stuck in his office for most of the day.
Tom sighed, knowing he had no choice but to bring Amber with him due to Maverick being busy and his sister being in another freaking state. However he didn’t mind the company, since he was able to show his daughter the planes, possibly getting to see a familiar face such as Wraith or Hollywood, look at the frames on the wall and the view of the building from where they were standing.
And to be honest, Amber loved it. She was shy about it all but she couldn’t help but grin. Her eyes sparkled at the huge planes, the classrooms filled with aviators, the darling style of the technology they had and clean cut frame of the building.
Tom stayed in his office playing the radio and doing paperwork with Amber by his side sitting in the blue beanbag beside from desk. Even though Tom was working, he pauses writing on a form hearing his 7 year old curls bounce as she sang one of the songs on the radio as she played with her Barbie dolls.
“And here we go, we know the start, we know the end!” She sang, brushing her doll’s hair with such passion, “Masters of the scene. We’ve done it all before and now we’re back to get some more..”
“You know what i mean.” Tom sang along softly, twirling his pen in between his finger grinning, “Voulez-Vous!”
One thing was sure was how much she loved singing ABBA’s popular songs when it came on the radio. She definitely got it from her aunts and uncles, he can’t blame her. When music like that starts playing it becomes contagious, where you just have to sing along.
Amber stood up from her beanbag chair and started to twirl around, dancing holding out a hand for Ice to take. He hesitated cause he was at work but he shrugged, removing himself from his seat taking his daughter’s hand and twirl her around. Her infectious laugh and cheeky grin matched her father’s gracefully.
The two of them, dancing until the song was over and radio played Dolly Parton’s 9 To 5. Tom returned back to his desk, twirling the pen back in his hand chuckling. Meanwhile Amber went to grab the grapes that were packed in her bag as she sat down and ate, looking out the window at the planes.
———
A few short hours later, Slider walked in greeting his niece and best friends, sitting down to talk with Ice over the planes they would flying next weekend. Amber was finally starting to get bored and begging her father to walk around the base with him. She wanted to spend time with him or her uncles to explore for a while, instead of being laying around in an office.
Slider noticed the look on his niece’s face and said, “Oh come Tom, it’s just a little walk to see the other side of base. I know your overprotective but cut the baby some slack.”
“Ron. I know that, she’s been here before she could walk but what if she gets lost, huh? Half of people don’t even know about her.” Tom explained, with a sigh.
“She’ll be fine! Won’t you, baby?”
“Slider!”
“Ice! We’ll have fun, right babygirl?”
Amber smiles, “Yeah! Daddy pleaseeee! I will be careful.”
With a sigh, he nodded and replied, “Alright. Okay, you can go and explore the base but be careful. I don’t want you getting lost or get both of you and your uncles in trouble.”
“No promises. They are a bunch of cowboys like you said.”
“Clever girl. And watch your tone.”
Slider chuckled taking his niece’s hand and teased his best friend on how they’re gonna cause some trouble. Probably even bring Goose and Mav along for the ride. Ice just rolled his eyes and chuckled at them.
Ron knew that his niece was very important to his pilot’s life and understood why he’s been overprotective of her since day one. He was a single father, yeah sure their friends were there too but Tom was the main caretaker of his daughter’s life. Of course he wanted her safe and sound wherever she is. It was also a private part of his life, that he wanted to maintain calm and not go off the rails.
But like everything, change happens and surprises come along the way. Weather he liked it or not.
He was talking to Hollywood when it did, keeping Amber close by the tarmac of the planes. Hollywood was kneeling down to the girls height, letting her play with his helmet in the meantime.
Both men were chatting about the way the newer pilots almost got jet washed during training session a couple of days ago and how they needed to tweak the planes safety alerts. Amber was holding Hollywood’s helmet and enjoying the colors when something caught her eye. More like someone.
On the tarmac, drew out a nice sliver dollar plane as if someone just gotten off the skies and landed on the ground. She caught wind of the small wave of damage the plane got on the edges but the man—no women, since she removed her helmet, who step out of cockpit, climbing out of the darn thing had some trouble finding grin on her.
She didn’t know if to be impressed or intimidated by her.
Dark locks like her uncle Mav, a dark olive green jumpsuit like all the other aviators and attention grabbing attitude towards the person she was talking to. Amber didn’t get a good look at her face though. So in her brain, she couldn’t if she was good news or not.
She was taken out of her gaze, following her uncle Slider and Hollywood inside still holding the helmet. Slider was called by Viper for something real quick, leaving her with Hollywood. Amber got a bit annoyed at that, she wanted to explore but she got stuck sitting on a bench instead.
It was half bad, due to her and Hollywood talking about the latest movie she saw.
Since her dad and uncles took her, Bradley, Austin, Jenny and Dane to see a rereleased of The Empire Strikes Back. The kids haven’t seen those movies yet, so it was their first time. But Hollywood couldn’t go cause he was too busy so he couldn’t, instead Wolfman went taking his place.
“And then Luke fought Darth Vader! Austin screamed saying he could do it better than him. And I said ‘no you can’t!’ but he didn’t believe me.” Amber exclaimed with a laugh, “Why did Leia kiss Luke then Han in the movie?”
Hollywood chuckled at her enthusiasm for the movie and repiled, “Well he did to prove a point to Han. But you kids will have to watch the next one to find out what happens. Did your Aunt Carole or Drey took you to see The Little Mermaid yet?”
“No! They said we gotta wait for they can buy it and we can watch it at home. But I wanna see it.”
“How about I see if I can get Drey to change her mind? How does that sound? She owes me a date anyway.”
Amber giggled at that and nodded, suddenly she had to use the restroom and Hollywood pointed to go down the hallway, next to the double doors. He watched her from where he was standing, smiling.
———
After she used the restroom, Amber noticed that Hollywood wasn’t there anymore but on the other end of the hallway talking with Wolfman. She rolled her eyes and grunted, rushing her with a glare to Hollywood.
“Hey! You said you’d wait for me.” Yelled Amber, tugging at his pant leg with a glare that similar to Iceman.
Tumblr media
Expect that glare had a hint of fire within them, like there was smoke behind the ice cold blocks. Wolfman noticed it and would’ve chuckled if he wasn’t a bit confused about Amber being here. He was sure he saw her walking with Slider earlier.
“I’m sorry, kiddo! I got caught up with Wolf, he will telling me something important.” Hollywood apologize, for his mistake but he still saw the glares.
He noticed Amber walking away, her temper and annoyance getting the best of her. All she wanted was a small walk around the base with someone like her aunts or uncles but they were more or less distracted with work. She couldn’t even blame them for being caught up with work but she was smart enough to know she deserves some attention and respect.
Hollywood and Wolfman chased after the 7 year old, as her blonde locks bounced across the hallways of the base finding herself in the wonders of the building. She pushed her bangs past her eyes, popped up her collar of her jacket.
A few mutters and mumbles could be heard of people asking who’s child was that around the corner, as she stopped in front of the rows of pictures frames displaying days of older class photos. From 1960s to now. She blocked out the whole noise of officers, captains, commanders and even some lingering lieutenants who walked past her.
She saw a few pictures frames of planes her favorite was the Tomcat due to the display of grays and or blues, speaking volumes of the way it swords the skies and classic modeling that carried two passengers. She knows her uncle Mav had small miniature replicas near the speakers at his house, telling the kids to not play with them.
She wasn’t one to absolutely desire the trill of piloting one of those lovely things. But she wouldn’t mind being in the backseat of one, watching them go fast and the high from being in the clouds. Hell, her uncle Merlin and Maverick took her in one of those for a quick joy ride before her surprise birthday party last year. They were only off the ground for a few minutes, nothing special but it was fun.
Amber sighed, smiling softy at the pictures wishing she wasn’t alone but with her uncles. Like Merlin, Maverick, Slider or even her uncle Buzz. But then again, she did run away from them and they were busy.
She heard a loud, “Kazansky!” as she wiped her head around to see Jester and Stinger talking probably searching for her father.
As one of their fellow members, said that he was in his office and heading to a meeting.
She even heard Cain’s voice yelling “Maverick! Kazansky better get say something good about you and Merlin’s flying today or so god help me!”
She was rather shy but curious, when it came to things like this. Her uncle Mav always got into trouble for his interesting, in color words to say the least, flying skills. She winced hearing the yelling of her last name and others across the hall, as you can hear plenty muffled noises in between. Amber didn’t like it, so she glanced at the pictures once again, this time being of the 86’ class and ran finding herself outside of a briefing room.
She knew the room she stood outside of, being the same one her dad’s higher rank, Viper, taught the 86’ class in. Well it was very much similar, at least. She stood on her tippy toes at the window, looking inside to find it empty inside but the door easily locked.
It was across the small hallway her father would possibly be having his meeting in. Amber instead of boring herself, she found herself wondering outside the window playing with one of the tiny toy Blackbird plane, she had in her pocket that she took her father’s desk at home and placed it against the glass window pretending to fly it.
She giggled to herself softly using imagination and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, this is Officer Kazansky speaking. I will be showing here the flight manners, I liked to call a barrel roll. And if you’re lucky, you can surprise the other pilots with this one by sneaking up on them.”
Little did she know, some female works were walking past her and listening giggling catching onto her last name. Some were confused even shocked, plenty around it adorable and others were jealous thinking that Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky was secretly taken if that was really his kid.
——
Just as Ice was about to enter his meeting with Jester, Cain and Stinger to explain his wingman actions up in the sky, Slider went rushing in as as Maverick was about to head inside.
“H-HEY! I-Ice, we got a little—” Slider began to explain what he heard from Hollywood and Wolfman, but was surely cut off.
“Where’s my kid?” Tom asked, looking over his shoulder and around for his daughter.
“I was just about to get to that. Long story short, I left her with Holly for a while and when I came back, he and Wolf said she was gone.”
“Gone or ran? Amber ain’t gonna run out unless something happened.”
Maverick cut in, “Wait! Amber’s here?! In the building?! Slider what’s wrong with you?”
“Hey! It wasn’t my fault Viper called me earlier into his office, so I left her with the guys! They said she ran from them as the two started to chase her down." Slider said, telling the shorter pilot.
“Find her! I don’t care about myself right now, I’ll take the heat like always but Jester would be more mad that you guys left a child unattended in the building.”
Tom shared a look with his wingman, something both him and Mav knew all too well, the panic, fear and annoyance at the thought of their children missing. Slider or some of their friends didn’t get it yet, since not all of them were parents but they had nieces and nephews. Slider was of course one step ahead of them, saying that he already sent some of the guys to go search the blonde.
Maverick gave Ice a soft smile, “Hey. They’ll find her, if not we’re leave the meeting early and get her ourselves.”
Tom’s eyes were turning ice cold with a glare that somewhat soften at his words nodding, then entered the meeting quietly. Iceman being too quiet wasn’t a good thing for anyone, it meant his mind was racing around with throughs to rush out and resume work for another day. But had to stay focused, he knew Slider and the others were on the case. Maverick was frustrated by it all, yelling for Merlin who walked past by to see if he saw Amber, who shock his head but went searching for her…
———
The girl in question was walking around the base, passing a few short notice offices and lounges to find not many familiar faces. She was getting shyer and slightly curious as the moments went on, regardless she knew she got herself in trouble by running away. Amber eventually stumbled upon an office that brought a soft smile to her face. She gently knocked on the door, fixing her jacket and holding her plane in one hand.
It open to reveal the man who this office belong to brown mustache, deep brown eyes and tipped baseball cap staring at her. Mike MetCalf, Viper, looked down at her blinking twice at her small figure. He heard a few of his 86’ class rushing across the building yelling and shouting softly a few words, as it clicked in his head. They was looking for her.
He kneeling down in front of her, noticing the same deep look as her father, covered with blushing tears as if she was trying not to shed any. He put a hand on her shoulder, “Amber, sweetheart. What happened?”
“I..I ran away..fr-from..from Hollywood and Wolfy..” She replied with a small voice, a soft glare trying to keep her tears from falling.
“That’s wasn’t the right move and you know it. I don’t know why you did it but you weren’t supposed to that..”
“I know…”
“Come on.”
He takes her hand, leading her inside his office as he lead her to the counter against the wall near the window. He told her to stay there, as he was in middle of a conversation with an pilot at the moment. She looked up at the pilot, Viper mentioned, as she titled her head remembering the dark hair women from eariler. This time, she saw her face.
She was looking right at her.
Her rather soft features combined with rich one such as the woman’s nose and eyebrows that curled in a way as if she was analyzing the situation. There was something about this women that made Amber not know if she would be scared or shy about her, as she looked away from the brunette.
Viper noticed the looks and said, “Amber Nic Kazansky, meet Hazel Quinn. One of our pilots here, she’s been here before months ago but transferred recently to hopeful longer stay.”
This time the women—Hazel, looked at Amber with a slight difference, analysis of her state with soften concern and worry for the young girl. Hazel looked at Amber, twisting in her chair and standing up to sit beside the little girl. She noticed her glares, her last name ringed bell. Iceman. Flies ice cold, no mistakes.
She never met the man or even seen pictures but heard about him. If though he never met him, she can see the results of his child from the blonde hair to the eyes. But there was a sweetness that Hazel read to her face, a loving and gentle pace to the girl. A doll that needed to be protected. She can only imagine what made this girl run away but she might have an idea coming from a family who lend their lives to the military herself.
Hazel smiled softly, “Hi.”
“Hey..” replied Amber, looking up at the women.
“Are you okay, sweetheart?”
“Y-yeah I’m fine…how about you?”
“I’m alright but you don’t seem like your fine.”
“I’m fine..”
“…look, I guess you don’t want to tell me what happened cause we just met. But whatever it is, you should at least tell someone. They will try to understand.”
Amber stayed silent, her smoking glares still knees deep she wanted to say something like a witty comeback or a rude interception of her works but she didn’t.
Hazel contained her obvious observations and continued, “Okay I’ll humor you. I bet that you wanted to spend time together with your father or uncles but they got too busy, playing hand off with you instead? You wanted some kind of respect and attention today but didn’t get it or know to tell your guardian at the moment about it.”
That seemed to soften Amber up, as she looked over her shoulder and nodded, she left like she wasn’t exactly scared around this women but somehow understood and willing to listen. I guess what they say is true, sometimes a complete stranger can be the easiest person to talk to than anyone else closer to you? Huh? Hazel watched her, waited for her to say something as she noticed Amber tuned to face better and explain.
She told her, everything about how she wanted to spend time walking around the base and explore with her family members but she really secretly wanted was some more moments with her dad. But she understood he was busy today, since he originally wasn’t supposed to come into work at all for that matter. Amber couldn’t blame him and didn’t even bother to say anything but it sounded like she was annoyed with that fact herself. She knew Viper was listening, as she watched her in a way he looked at his own children and godson.
Hazel wanted to give this little lady a hug because she knew that feeling all too well herself, wanting to spend time with her parents but they were busy sometimes with military assistance. But she could tell from how Amber spoke of her father, she loved him very much and wasn’t even mad at his efforts, as if she knew she will get her attention soon enough.
————
And she was right. Because less than a half a second later, you could 8 rushing footsteps and yelling of 4 men, possibly even 5 at Viper’s doorstep.
“Amber!” Yelled the voice. As the girls turned around to see Tom Kazansky—no, Iceman, standing there with his hand on the doorknob with a mix of anger, worry and deep questions laced across his face. He continued, “Sweetheart what were—”
“I’mma stop you right there, flyboy.” Said the only female voice in the room, being Hazel, who stood up from the couch facing Iceman with a hand hovering his chest to pause him.
It was as if the room fell silent for a millisecond.
This brunette just stop Tom Kazansky in his tracks. The Iceman. Hollywood and Wolfman were just outside the door, as you only heard a small sniff or murmured noise coming from there. Wolfman blinked confused then recognize the voice, knowing who she was.
She was like a female Maverick but with a strong levelheaded voice, dark humor and a wildly competitive side to boot.
Princess Leia but in aviator form in simpler words.
Slider cough slightly, standing there awkwardly entering the room to check up on Amber’s current state that matched his own. They were both staring at Daredevil and Iceman, who just locked eye on another.
Tom’s ice cold glares that tend to be laced with deep fried anger watching all the angles in the room, locked eyes with the brunette. She was breathtaking. Stunning in every way possible due to the way she challenged him at the moment.
From her short brown hair with feather bangs that almost fell over eyesight that she didn’t even bother to fix. Rich blue eyes. Craved out cheekbones that enchanted her beauty. Along with the nude, almost red lip that she carried added to her frame.
It took a moment for Ice to contain his combating composure and focus on the task at hand. But dear god was this women gorgeous in his eyes!
Tom cleared his throat, scoffed with a slight chuckled and said, “I’m sorry, who might you be?”
She crossed her arms, with a light smile pointed across her face with a stance and replied, “Hazel ‘Daredevil’ Quinn. One of your new Lieutenant Commanders, sir. I’m assuming that she’s your daughter?”
“Yeah, ma’am, she is. I apologize if she intercepted your and Viper’s conversation earlier. She almost gave me a scare..”
She scoffed, “Some father. Shouldn’t you have been looking after her? Look, she told me what happened and how she felt. I don’t blame you for anything but maybe take a few minutes to listen to her next time.”
He raised a eyebrow, “Look, I would’ve been keeping an eye on her but I unfortunately got caught up with work, so I entrusted her with my friends and she got away from them. I messed up and so did they, i take full accountability for what happened today. None of this was supposed to happen but I’m more worried about her right now.”
Hazel took one a look over her shoulder at Amber, as Tom followed her gaze with a sigh already telling by his daughter eyes that she was a bit down in the dumps. He kneeled down in front of her, put a gentle hand on her cheek meeting her baby blues and asking her tell him what happened in a calmer tone this time. Hazel sat beside her, listening to what she told her.
Tom sighed lowering his head as he listened to his daughter’s words and shook his head, not catching on the small signs that she wasn’t enjoying her day, he apologized greatly for it. His first job was father, pilot second. He knew that, it’s why he tried to keep his private life separate from this base but here he was in Viper’s office listening to his baby girl thoughts.
Sometimes he forgets what’s it like to be a child and feel unheard or not wanting to bother adults with your own business.
Amber pushed back her bangs and lowered her eyes, before looking up at her father and said, “…I’m sorry, daddy..i know I shouldn’t have ran away but i wanted to see the base with you..but everyone was busy or talking with other people…it felt like Hollywood forgot about me..”
“Honey, why didn’t you come back to my office or at least, find your uncle Mav to tell us how you were feeling?” Tom asked, with a soft tone that sounded almost like a whisper, nothing like the pilot people are used to hearing.
“You were handling a lot of paperwork and i heard Jester call your name..and I didn’t like it..and uh, you were about to go into a meeting. I didn’t want to interrupt you..”
“And you through because i was about to head to a meeting to bail out your uncle Mav, I wasn’t gonna have time to talk with you? Baby, as busy or annoyed as i can get, i will always make time for you. I’m sorry you thought running around base was the best option…oh..all you wanted was a little bit of attention, didn’t you?”
She just nodded at that. She must’ve sounded selfish or brash, wanting some attention than it seemed like she already had. Hell, due to her lack of communication she had 5 men searching for her.
“Amber, honey, you’re still so young and you won’t get it now but when you’re older you will. I didn’t want to stuck in my office all day, it wasn’t even my intention to make you feel that way either. If it was up to me, i would’ve been taking you flying or have you see a new selection of planes we have gotten this month but my schedule said otherwise. When you’re old enough you will understand what i mean. I should’ve went with you and gave you my full attention instead of having you hang out with your uncle Slider.”
Slider intercepted with a light mocking gasp, “Hey! I was a nice babysitter.”
“You lost her, you idiot.” Tom commented.
“Blame Hollywood and Wolfe for that last part.”
“Yeah, sure, buddy. We will.”
Wolfman and Hollywood scoffed hearing that part but nodded, since they did take a part in losing the young blonde. The duo walked in apologizing for their mistakes, as Wolf even ruffled Amber’s hair in efforts to make her crack a smile. And to his efforts, it worked.
Hazel leaned backwards in her sat and whisper softly to the young blonde, “Well now you got all the guys fondling over you, sweetie. Feel a little better?”
Amber nodded and wrapped her arms around Tom’s neck as he picked her up, embracing his little angels warmth not wanting to let her go. He humming softly asking, “Angel eyes?”
“Hm?” Amber responded, rubbing her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder.
“Can you forgive me?”
“Well, daddy, can you forgive me?”
He chuckled nodding, “Yeah I can. I’m still a bit mad that you ran instead of coming to me first but yeah, of course I forgive you.”
She smiled at that, “I forgive you daddy..how much longer do you have to go your meeting?”
“I cut my meeting with Cain short because I had to go searching for you. But I have another one in two hours, after that I’m all yours.”
“Are you in trouble?”
“Stinger understood but Jester was a little annoyed, but I think I got off the hook. And I think you need to apologize for giving Maverick and the rest of the boys a scare too, baby.”
She nodded hearing the last part, knowing she needed to do that at some point. Tom put her down on the floor, thanking Viper for keeping her in his office for the time being as the older man told him he didn’t mind it one bit. Slider was already walking walking the boys out of the office, leaving the father daughter duo and a certain someone left. Hazel was running her fingers crossed her hair, with a soft smile leading against the couch hearing them talk softly to another one prideful she was able to help.
However just as she about to continue her conversation with Mike, the two blondes turned to her. Amber thanked her firsthand, hoping to see her around more often if she gets a chance to visit the base once again and went to stand in the doorway waiting for her father.
As she stood in the doorframe of Viper’s office, she noticed something on both adults faces. Mainly because the fog cleared now for her. She would’ve giggled and cleared her throat but she was more than curious to see where this goes. Mike was standing beside her, giving the girl a small wink as he looked over his shoulder to see Maverick coming their way.
Tom cleared his throat and grinned, “Uh, thank you back there.”
“For what?” Hazel asked, with a sly smile.
“Knocking some sense into me. I wasn’t thinking straight at all, usually I’m more grounded than this.”
“So I heard. I heard of your reputation, but I never expected the whole father thing.”
“Yeah well, it’s something I don’t expect everyone to know. I have my reasons to keep my private life separated from my aviation one.”
“I get it.”
“Yeah?”
“I do. With a darling girl like that, I can see why you want to keep her safe. She’s a good girl, you got lucky.”
“I think so too. And she seems to have taken a liking to you.”
“I guess so. Uh, I’ll see you around, Iceman?”
“Most certainly, Daredevil.”
Amber rolled her eyes at her father not being as smooth as he would be and chuckled, “Ask for her number, daddy.”
All adults laughed at her comments and rolled their eyes, seeing how forwarded she was being today. To be fair, after the world-wind of a day Tom had his head wasn’t screwed on straight, so missed a stepped at being a flirt with his fellow pilots.
He gave his daughter a pointed look and chuckled, “I was just getting to that, sweetheart.” He continued looking at the brunette with his signature smile and added, “Can I have your number, beautiful?”
Hazel chuckled doubling over with a hand on her chest, still taking in the young girl’s forwardness as if it was the most obvious answer. It took her a moment before she replied with a darling smile, biting her bottom lip, “Yes. Yes you may.”
Without a second later, Hazel ripped a piece a index card from Viper’s desk and wrote down her number, handing it to Tom who grinned thanking her. The two talked for another half minute about whatever nonsense that came to mind, with a mention of a date next Friday if they’re both available and then some. Viper chuckled clearing his throat, as much as he loved seeing two pilots creating a connection, he knew time is money and he had meetings to get to today.
Both the blonde and brunette nodding grinning as Ice took his daughter’s hand and once again thanked Viper, allowing him to return to his previous meetings Daredevil earlier. Hazel waved at the two blondes and took a seat once again where she sat originally.
———
As one could imagine, the rest of the day went as follows, Ice went to his final meeting of the day with Amber this time right beside him. She didn’t mind it all, rather enjoyed being in the room with all the high ranking people and the view of the office in general. Maverick intercepted the meeting to check up on his niece and wingman, glad to see two of favorite people in the building alright and well. Stinger glared at the short pilot twice and pointed for him to exit the door as soon as possible.
Once it over, the father daughter packed it up leaving the offices and headed to the tarmac to watch the planes in the air. Since he always carried an extra pair of sunglasses, he slipped the another one in her hand as she gladly put them on.
Tom scooped up Amber, pointing out the fliers pulling the moves then landing from the safe zone. There were moments of comfortable silence between the two of them and others of them suggesting what else they should do that day.
“How about McDonald’s?” Amber asked, as her father placed her once again on the ground.
He thought for a moment, considering the opinions of today’s action and shook his head, “Sorry, angel eyes. Not today, maybe some other time.”
“It’s okay. I understand..I’m sorry again daddy for running off.”
“I know you are sweetie and I just hope next time you know not to do something like that again.”
“Yes daddy. So no McDonald’s?”
“Nope. We have food at home, but we can past McDonald’s on the drive.”
Tom smirked watching her face, as her mouth opened for a moment then shut pouting. Seeing that it would furrow her brown and having her nose snitch up at that rather rude idea. He knew it was a little mean act, but it was something his grandfather did to him as a small punishment and to see if the fast food restaurant was really worth it.
After a moment, her face returned back to normal as she let out a dramatic sigh and nodded knowing it was somewhat fair trick to play on her. She even let out a smile, following her father out away from the tarmac and into the parking lot.
The drive home was pretty okay, since the music that played on the radio allowed for a gentle sound to release whatever negative thoughts and feelings from across the day, as they went out the window. And yes, they did past by McDonald’s on their way home.
Once they got home, both ate something and showered early, that’s when Tom had the actual talk he said he was going to do earlier that day. Not to get into any heavy detail, it a long 20 minutes of Tom’s eyes almost shifting to his Iceman persona every few minutes at how his emotions sorta bottled up in him while scolding Amber.
He didn’t scream or yell, keeping his voice neutral the whole time.
Telling how that what she did was very reckless, irresponsible, that it a worrisome situation on his part and she literally made a down right stupid decision. Saying something worse could’ve happened if she wasn’t careful. He gave his two sense on the matter and explained to her all the possibilities of what might’ve went wrong today. Things she could’ve done instead and so forth.
Amber tear up hearing her father and just nodded listening to him. He said that he understood why she did it, she felt annoyed and unheard. Plus, she’s a kid, so she doesn’t know any better than to just run away from the issue and stay in her thoughts. However he does say that he felt good that she realized what she did wrong and went back to find an adult.
Yes, he rather it was him but he really liked the fact that she at least went to Viper’s office. Because it was a trusted friend and honorary member of the family.
Due to Tom sitting on the couch with her as he talked, he rubbed her shoulder and handed her a tissue to wipe away those tears that rolled down her cheeks. Apologizing as well for his decisions and own actions today, knowing he messed up on his part since he should’ve stayed with her the whole entire time, instead of leaving her with Slider and the older pilots.
That he should’ve read the signs and taken time to give her his full attention or something. Amber didn’t blame him, as she given her moments to speak her mind as well onto her own feelings. She promised to not try to run away again and go to him if she feels some certain way. She asked if it possible to go flying like old times and he replied that one day they can. Telling her how he will definitely try his best to make time for her, listen to her own thoughts better and keep himself as in the loop as possible.
He gave her a squeeze and a kiss on her cheek, as the two stayed there just talking about punishments, the rules for the rest of the week and exceptions to be set soon. She leaned into his touch and nodded hearing him talking, to be honest even though he was telling her no tv for a week and among other things, his voice was rather relaxing. Hushing her worries about a few things as she softly smile.
Overall the afternoon went well, a few shed tears and a couple of moments just to hear the other person out was exactly what was needed.

Slider watched as Ice walked back down the hallway after settling a distraught friend down in the guest room. He kept his voice low, “How long is she staying?”
Ice’s blue eyes snapped to Slider and intensely bored down upon Sliders gaze, almost daring him to challenge Ice if he disagreed. “As long as she needs.”
Blog: @softkazansky
~ I fully intend to create a blog so I can store this fic somewhere but creating the name of the blog has been hard. Help? Any ideas? Gotta be aesthetic 👌🏼
Fic is definitely Iceman x Slider x OC. But… at this point I have no idea if OC will end up with Ice or Slider 😅 But Ice 100% protecting OC from Maverick and his fuckboi ways tho 👌🏼

Take Good Care Of My Baby
In Every Time Ch. 1
Tumblr media
Song: Take Good Care Of My Baby -Bobby Vee
Pairing: WWII! Tom Kazansky x OC! Annika Jensen
Characters: Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, Bill "Cougar" Cortell
Warnings: Minors DNI!, World War II themes, brief talk of Nazi's, thoughts of death, a couple swear words. Please let me know if I missed anything.
Word Count: ~3.3k
Summary: What if it was Tom's last night state side before shipping off overseas to fight in the war? What if he met the girl of his dreams before he left? Will their paths ever cross again?
A/N: So, this was an idea I had a while ago, and finally wrote it. I tried to keep it shorter but I have plenty of ideas! Please let me know in the comments if I should make this part of a series! Enjoy!
A/N: This story was not proofread by a second pair of eyes so please excuse any errors, if it becomes a series I will go back through and edit this one.
“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”
Ana trailed after Tom down the hallway of their apartment. Her PJ pants brushing the floor because they were simply a little big but tied well around her waist. The smell of Chinese food permeated the walls of the kitchen from their night in after Tom’s long day at work. He had canceled dinner plans because there was an incident on base he had to take care of.
Ever the amazing boyfriend, he picked up takeout on the way home and you two enjoyed it while talking idly on the couch for a couple hours. “If I say yes will it stop your essay of questions?” He groaned throwing open the door to their room, pealing off his muscle tank he had worn home, it was the only thing he had in his locker that day. His clothes somehow made it into the hamper before he climbed into bed, refusing to let the room be messy, it was Tom after all.
“I’m not answering that question until you answer mine.”
“Fine, yes Annie, I’d still love you if you were a worm. You happy now?”
Ana couldn’t help but grin in triumph as she crawled into bed next to her boyfriend. “Yes I’m ecstatic, thank you.” Placing her head on his chest she wiggled around to get comfortable, a calm silence washing over the couple.
The only thing Tom could hear was the quiet sound of music coming from their neighbors apartment and the sound of two breaths becoming one. He loved the silence, it was such a complete 180 from his every day life, work was always loud, at home, with ana, he got to just enjoy quiet.
“Tom?”
“Yes dear?”
“Do you think… that if we didn’t meet how we did… if we didn’t meet in this time, we would have ever found each other?” Ana half expected to hear a groan because of her silly questions, but was surprised to be greeted with silence, followed by Tom moving under her, sitting up on one elbow.
“I’m not sure… you mean like, if we would have met in a different time?”
“Yeah, like 1944… do you think we would have gotten together?”
After another long moment of silence Tom pursed his lips, something Anna could barely see through the dark. “I’d like to think so, I think that no matter the year, place, or circumstances I would always fall for those beautiful green eyes.” He gently placed his hand under her chin lifting her lips to kiss her, “Now, shall we get some sleep? Mav got on my last nerve today and I would like to drift off to sleep with my beautiful girlfriend before I spend any more brainpower on his idiocy.”
Laying back into the pillow with Ana on his chest there wasn’t much time before Tom was out cold. Annika on the other hand, laid in complete darkness, staring at the shapes of picture frames in the dark wondering… What If.
Tumblr media
“I swear I’ve never wanted anything more in my life Erik. Give me another chance.” Ana stared dead on, serious as a heart attack. She’d never get another chance like this, never be this close again.
“Absolutely not! Your gonna spend our budget to get home if you keep trying. I’m not convincing the milk man to give us a ride again, that was fucking embarrassing Annika.” A rather tall man stood next to her, they looked almost identical aside from his stronger bone structure and lack of freckles.
Both had rather piercing eyes and unruly brunette almost jet black hair, Ana at least was able to pull it back into an updo as her hair was long, Erik was only able to work with what he had, a brush and water. The lack of gel paired with his goofy grin and inability to choose a good outfit for the life of him, he looked like a news boy on the side of the road hawking headlines, maybe the newsboy hat would do his hair some good.
In reality though Erik wasn’t the one hawking the headlines, he was writing them. Just starting to at least. Stuck reviewing vaudeville shows for just enough money to keep him and Ana fed and get his name in the Byline.
“Come on Erik! Once more, that’s all and I’ll never ask for anything ever again.” She finally broke the intense thousand yard stare to look at her brother.
“Ana what even is that thing? Is it worth it? Is it worth having to walk all the way home?” Was it? Probably not, but Ana was determined to prove to her brother that she could do it. She nodded, taking the coin from his hand holding it out for the man behind the table.
“I was starting to think you weren’t gonna make a choice.” The man murmured handing her 3 rings. “Have at it little lady.”
Ana glanced from her brother to the nondescript animal plush hanging on the tent. “Your coming home with me…” She murmured reassuring herself before tossing the first ring, it bounced off the top of the coke bottles before ending up wedged between two of them. “Damn”
Throwing the second one significantly harder out of frustration, the ring hit a bottle then the back wall and flew back towards them, smacking Erik in the shoulder before falling to the floor.
“Ouch!” he complained quietly, watching as the barker got distracted flirting with some blonde bimbo, bending over Erik snatched the ring from the ground passing it back to Ana. “Take another shot, what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” Her brother winked, a lopsided half playful grin was on his face, it met his eyes, that’s what told Ana it was genuine. She had learned to read her brother like a book after years of watching him lie, and laugh, and play around.
Tossing the ring again it bounced passed the playing bottles and instead miraculously landed on the barkers actual bottle of coke. Perhaps it was because it was an actual size to fit in the ring. “I did it!” Annika squealed jumping up and down in excitement, the barker turned around and looked at the two.
“That doesn’t count, its filled with coke and it’s mine, it isn’t an in play bottle.” Looking for any reason to contest the man’s rule Ana slouched quietly thinking.
“It’s still a bottle aint it? Just give her the damn… whatever the hell that thing is and we will get out of your way.” Erik reasoned standing up straight, Erik wasn’t tall by any means, only resting at about 5’ 11. He was broad though, their uncle owned a moving business and Erik was always in there helping move inventory. In school, he was apart of the rugby team which helped build muscle, it was his favorite thing to do at school besides anything to do with writing.
“Fine, I don’t wanna see you two again though.” He murmured pulling what was now a badly designed teddy bear of the hook handing it to Ana who immediately clutched it to her body and gave him a stern nod turning away taking Erik’s arm to leave before she broke out into laughs.
“I can’t believe that worked.”
“It worked but not without burning the bridge of playing that game again… Come on Ana, I’m starving I want to get food.”
“Are you kidding me Tommy? You can’t seriously tell me that you haven’t used the uniform to get at least one girl. I haven’t been able to keep the girls off me.” Bill walked through the crowd his hand firmly placed on Tom’s shoulder.
“Well not all of us joined up with the intension of getting laid as many times as possible before shipping off Coug.” The blonde adjusted the uniformed hat as it sat on top of his head. People all had their reasons for joining up, some it was for the glory, some it was to fight the Nazi’s, for Tom, it was none of the above. He just wanted to be apart of something bigger, he wanted to serve for a purpose, to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. Getting recognition and women had nothing to do with it.
“I’m simply indulging myself before I go fight with a good chance of death… Fine fine, so doing a pickup game with me tonight is off the table?”
“Bill, it was never even on the menu.” Tom murmured as they made their way through the crowded pier, they were getting stares, that much Tom knew for sure. “We came here with the intension of getting to go to Coney island one last time before we left, I’m not wasting it on trying to get someone to hookup with you. You’re a lost case Billy.”
It didn’t take more than 5 minuets for two girls to walk over. “Are you two boys in the army?” They were giggling as if flirting was something one dared the other to do.
“Close, Navy, You almost had it little lady, name is Sargent Bill Cortell, it is such an honor to serve and protect when I know you pretty ladies back here are who I’m protecting.” He reached out taking one girls hand in each of his kissing their knuckles. Cougar, who had affectionately been named that by their platoon, was quite the flirt. He had a record of hitting on anything wearing a skirt, and he had the skills to as well. It was rare Bill didn’t have a girl on his arm outside of work.
Tom rolled his eyes at Bills antics. Both the girls squealed as he spoke, “I can’t imagine how brave you must be.”
“Only for you ma’am. How about you two pretty ladies and I go get some photos taken in the photo booth over there to commemorate tonight and give me something to admire while I’m over seas.” The girls swooned as Bill led them both off to the photo booth leaving Tom alone standing by as his best friend got some action.
Not that tom had any interest in getting any “Action” before he left, they would have plenty of action over seas to keep him busy and not thinking about some random girl from home.
“I thought I told you not to stick around! Get out of here!” A rather lanky barker was leaving his booth shaking a stick at a young woman who was quickly hurrying away. Ana had started to pick up her pace beyond just a brisk walk, starting to jog as the barker chased after her.
Erik's gonna be so pissed at me.
Taking a turn between two tents Ana thought she was safe, hiding from view of many prying eyes. “I thought I had told you to scram from my game. And where’s that big spender of a-“
“Darling, I turn around for 20 seconds and your gone! You can’t go running off like that. I thought we were going to get some popcorn?” Tom leisurely strolled down the small alley the tents had formed, one hand in his uniform pocket, getting in-between the barker and Ana. “Is there a problem?” He asked the man once making sure that he was between the two bodies glancing back and forth between them.
“Your with her? But I could have sworn she was with a brunette-“
“Well I would certinaly hope not, especially not on my last night state side.” Tom shifted his gaze to Ana and shot her a Roll with it look.
“Of course not, Why would I want to spend my night with anyone else.” She moved up linking an arm in Tom’s, “Now if you’ll Excuse me sir… we have a night to enjoy.” Tugging Tom out of the tight spot there was nothing but a shocked look on the barkers face, he looked dumbfounded.
Once out of ear shot she kept her voice low but leaned up to talk to the man as they walked. “I thought I was done for… thanks.”
“No problem, he seemed like a jerk.”
For the first time Ana lifted her gaze to properly take a look at the man who had come to her rescue even if it was an unorthodox rescue. He looked like every poster for the military, perfectly pressed uniform and a charismatic smile, even if the smile looked strained. “My name is Sargent Tom Kazansky, 22nd Naval Regimend, at your service.” Tom dragged a smile onto his face trying to mimic Cougars flirting, wanting to at least be able to tell Coug that he tried.
Perhaps it was his uniform, or his effortless good looks or a strained smile, but Ana was staring much more than she had originally intended. “You got a problem soldier? Loosen up, you look like you’ve been through somethin’ awful.”
Toms once strained smile turned rather goofy as he heard her accent, somewhere between a Brooklyn slang and a nondescript European dialect, it was certainly rather interesting. “Your right your right, formalities certainly aren’t needed considering that we are already dating.” He teased wiggling his eyebrows glancing down at where her arms were hooked on his elbow.
Ana tilted her head back and laughed keeping her hands on his arm, “Well if we are dating I think we need to go get one of those couples milkshakes over by the rides, those looked real good.”
Tom seemed to agree to the idea turning them towards the rides wanting to both take her farther away from the angry barker and to get the milkshake. “So, is it fair of me to ask my girlfriends name?”
“Oh, you mean you can’t tell? Can’t see it in my eyes?” Leaning up towards top she fluttered her eyelashes gently “I’m kidding, my name is Annika, it’s a pleasure to date you Sarg.” She gave a little salute with her free hand as they walked down the crowded wooden walkway.
Annika, a pretty name, certainly didn’t fit her. Well it did! Just not… it didn’t fit the side he was seeing of her. She was wreckless and rolled with the punches, this girl looked like hell on wheels but hidden in a rather messy blanket of personality and beauty. “The pleasure is all mine Annika.”
“Was what you said true? Is tonight your last night stateside?”
“Oh- uh, well yeah it is. My best friend Bill and I were planning on spending tonight enjoying our last night of freedom but hes found himself rather occupied with some ladies and left me to rot.” His laugh wasn’t good at hiding the way he was feeling, clear he wished that Cougar had prioritized their fun together, but he couldn’t control Cougars dick. “It’s not too bad though, I was able to help you out and now were at least enjoying ourselves together right?”
As they made their way to the ordering window of the booth Tom looked to Ana for a moment nodding as if telling her to make the choice of their order. “Oh uh, your good with anything?” She whispered leaning into comment, only to be responded to with a nod, “Can I just get a strawberry shake with two straws please?”
She fumbled for her coin purse to pay but Tom had beat her to it. “Please, let me, it’s not like this money’s gonna do me any good overseas.” His grin was enough to make her heart race and she hadn’t known him for more than 10 minuets. The milkshake was brought to forward to the window and Tom grabbed it leading Ana towards one of the empty benches which were few and far between on the busy boardwalk.
“So, what about you, I can assume you spend your free time aggravating carnival barkers to the point of chasing you?” He took a sip of the shake and let it cool down his throat when he swallowed, a little bit of the pink resting on his lip before he swiped it away with his tongue.
“No no, as much as I wish I could say it was my full time job I can’t. I’m a secretary for the telegraph company, I’m only part time though, but I help my brother, he’s a writer for the New York Sun, just has terrible grammar.” She smiled imaging the rough drafts laying on Erik’s desk covered in red pen marks that she had left.
Stealing the cup from Tom’s hand Ana took a long sip before handing it back, stealing the cherry off the top. “Well your brother is lucky to have an in house editor. I wish I could say that my writing was good but despite my fathers constant efforts to improve my writing skills my spelling is horrid and my hand writing is illegible.” It was half a joke, his father was always trying to force him to write so it would get better but he never had anyone he cared to write to or about.
“Annika Jenson!”
Anas back immediately straightened up and she became ridged closing her eyes “Speak of the devil and he shall appear.” She whispered before shooting Tom an apologetic look. “My brother.”
Standing up she tuned around, plaid skirt flaring out slightly, a tight smile pressed onto her face. “Erik, hey, sorry I kinda ran off, I wasn’t really interested in getting hotdogs and you were taking so long in the bathroom. I wandered off and noticed my bear had a tare already so I went back to get him replaced and the ass actually chased me. Can you believe that? He had the gall to try to chase me down for asking for a different prize! Anyway Tommy here swooped in and helped me out of a tight spot.”
Erik looked like he was having none of it, absolutely fuming, he had been searching for his sister for going on 20 minuets and she was off hiding with some random guy? “Tommy huh?” He pivoted to stand infront of Tom, who stood up to greet him came to about 6 foot standing up straight, Erik was broader, more stalky, while Tom was more lean, muscular, fit. He had been through training already and was prepared for war even if he was going into the air infantry.
“You must be the writer… it’s nice to meet you.” Tom held out his hand to shake but Erik seemed like he was still rather mad. “Sorry if I don’t shake hands with the guy who kidnapped my sister.”
“ERIK.” Ana slapped Erik’s shoulder violently “I’m sorry Tom I don’t know where his manners went, mama raised us right I promise.” She shot a stink eye at Erik before pulling the note book from his pocket that she knew he always had with him. Writing something down in the notebook she ripped out the page folding it a few times before shoving the notebook back to Erik who shook his head turning to walk away expecting Ana to follow.
“We should really go though… it’s quite late and we live on the other side of town so we should really be leaving but, I hope you can find your friend, and that, you find what your looking for overseas.” Moving forward she stood up onto her tiptoes and placed a hand on his chest slipping the note into his breast pocket of his uniform before kissing his cheek. “Good luck out there Tom.”
She turned to follow her brother, and Tom wasted no time pulling the note from his pocket trying not to damage it. His cheeks flushed pink as the notes words rang in his head. Well he finally had something to look forward to.
‘I hope that when you get to where your goin’ you don’t hesitate to practice your writing skills with me. My address, send a letter when you get to your station.’

Where Are We Going?

“Did you pack your shoes?” Rachael asks Tom. “What about your sunglasses?”
“Got both..” He pauses before he rechecks that he does have said items. “Yes got them both.”
“Are you still not going to tell me what your plan is for this trip?” Rachael asks as she finishes putting the bags in the trunk and closing the trunk.
“All you need to worry your pretty face is having your shoes and dress ready. We’ll make it in time for the wedding but I do want us to enjoy ourselves for a few days.”
“I’m trusting you. I don’t want to let Scarlet down and missing her wedding in Chicago.”
Tom chuckles. “I know. Goose won’t stop talking about it. I think he’s the first groom I have seen that might be more excited than the bride.”
Rachael laughs. “I’m so happy for those two. They are perfect together.”
“Just like us,” he says, taking her hand and bringing it up to his lips. He kisses over her engagement ring. “Just like us.”
If Rachael hadn’t been sitting down, she would have been a puddle on the floor.
The recently engaged couple enjoyed the road trip to Chicago. They stopped for pictures and food in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, St. Louis, and finally Chicago.
One of their favorite things was the Polaroid camera they used for this trip to collect memories of the trip and the wedding.

It was a Saturday like the other one. Pete Mitchell was sitting in the kitchen of the house he now shares with Penny Benjamin. It’s been two years since the uranium mission. Two years of quiet retirement, and Maverick gets used to this life surprisingly. He was still awake with the sun (an old habit). But no more training, no more mission, no more danger.
Today, he was alone in the house, Penny and Amelia spent the day together on Penny’s sailing ship. Mother and daughter day. Even though Amelia and Mav got along well and spent good times together, sometimes the Benjamin’s just needed to be alone with each other. Just like Mav loves spending time with Bradley, Goose’s son, or with Kat, Iceman’s and Storm's daughter.
By the way, Mav had to meet Bradley for lunch. In two years, they got their bond again, sharing memories of Carole and Goose, girls’ stories and other talk.
Maverick’s phone rang. Unknown number, from… Australia ? He picks up the phone.
“Maverick ?” asks a weak voice. “Yeah. Who’s asking ?” “Claudia Bennett, I don’t know if you remember me.” A soft smile appears on Mav’s lips. “Of course I remember you.”
Claudia and Pete met about twenty-six years ago. Mav has pissed off an admiral again, he has been sent to the Indian Ocean. At the bar next to the navy base, he met this lovely bartender, shining with her smile and laugh. They were young, beautiful and spent some passionate nights in the Australian’s heat all along the six month of the pilot’s deployment.
Maverick doesn't remember all the women he shared bed with. But Claudia was special, just like Charlie, just like Penny. He remembers her and he could hear that something was wrong. Her voice was a whisper, her breathing wheezing. “Is everything okay ?” He asks. “Not really” she answers, softly. “I’ve got cancer, Pete.”
Mav took a deep breath. He hates this ficking word. Cancer. The same word that takes away from him Carole, and years later Iceman. And now this word was taking Claudia.
Before he could say anything, Claudia spoke again. “I didn’t want to tell you this on the phone. But I can’t travel, and I'm not sure I have enough time to wait for you. After your departure from Australia, I learned that I was pregnant. I didn’t tell you anything because your free mind was too precious and I didn’t want to take it away from you. And I knew you were taking care of your friend's son and wife. I didn’t want to ask you to choose between us and them. I’m sorry for hiding your child from you. I tried to do my best. I did my best. But I’m dying, Pete. And our child will be alone.”
On the other side of the line, miles away, Claudia was breathless from having said all the truth. It was as if she had laid down a heavy burden. Twenty-six years of secret. And what a secret. Mav was wordless. Too many thoughts, too many questions.
“A child ?” were the first words that passed his lips. It was more a whisper than a question. “Yeah, a girl. A young woman now.” Maverick could hear Claudia smiling.
And finally, Maverick’s brain awakens. He has a daughter. A daughter who is about to lose her mother, the only parent she knows. “If you need anything, if she needs anything, tell it to me.” Claudia smiles. She always knew it. When they knew each other, Maverick was a cocky american pilot, but she always knew that he was a man of honor, who knows how to take his responsibility. Like he did with this boy she heard about. And that is why she didn’t tell him anything. She knew he would choose her. And she didn’t want to put strings on him. Her Free Bird.
“She’s got your free mind. I don’t want to impose anything on her. I want to give her your contact information. But I want her to choose if she wants to meet you or not. I know it’s cruel for you but…” Maverick interrupts her before she could feel more guilty. “She is the most important. I… I’m ready to meet her if she wants to.”
Claudi felt her heart growing up with joy and love. “Thank you, Pete.” “You’re welcome, Claudia. Can I just ask you one thing ?” “Tell me.” Maverick took a deep breath. “What did you call her ?” Claudia got a mother soft smile when she whisper
“Ally. Her name is Allyson.”

Under Stadium Light * Jake 'Hangman' Seresin/OC (part 1)
Summary: When Casey applied to Texas A&M, she wanted an escape. A means of forgetting her godfather's illness, and the breakup that happened just after graduation, if only for a moment. Some things, though, are far more difficult to outrun than she might believe. Perhaps most especially when a stubborn jock all but refuses to allow her to do exactly that.
Warnings: angst, allusion to smut, past abusive relationship, mentions of cancer/illness, death of major character

"Well—this is it."
The weight of her mother's arm winding around her shoulders to pull her close comes in tandem with the words, and Casey turns away from her cursory examination of the dorm room that will be her home away from home for the semester in favor of looking Penny Benjamin in the eye, instead. A task that comes with some difficulty, though Casey would be hard pressed to own up to such a thing out loud. She'd spent an entire summer convincing herself that she was looking forward to this. That the idea of starting college was nothing more than another new adventure.
By contrast, her mother clearly still harbors some reservations that she seems incapable of keeping to herself. It makes sense, inasmuch as Casey wishes it was not the case, given that this will be the first time she will be away from home by any significant distance for more than a few nights at a time.
When she'd first decided that Texas A&M was her number one choice for pursuing further education, it had been assumed she would change her mind. That her godfather's diagnosis in particular would persuade her to stick around. But neither of those things had happened. She had remained steadfast in her desire to attend college out of state as though her very life depended upon that desire becoming a reality.
Casey would be the first to admit she has a tendency to bolt when things get tough. When they get real. For all of her attempts at appearing steady, she still cannot entirely rid herself of the scared little girl that she always has been, more often than not. And now, here she is, attempting to don a reassuring smile for her mother, when on the inside, she is mere inches away from falling apart.
"This is it," She finally agrees, leaning slightly against her mother's side, just enough to be able to drop her head to rest on Penny's shoulder, "It's—"
"Nice."
"It is."
"Would've been nice to meet your roommate, though," Penny states, a surreptitious glance toward the still undecorated side of the dorm room causing Casey to emit a poorly muted laugh, "What? I'm allowed to wonder who you'll be living with for the next eight months of your life, aren't I?"
"You are."
"Alright then."
"I'm sure she's perfectly—"
"Nice?"
"Exactly," Casey assures, savoring the small tightening of her mother's arm around her shoulders, even if she hardly wants to make such a thing obvious to anyone else, "She's from Tacoma, Mom."
"That doesn't actually mean anything, you know."
"Okay, maybe not. But still, I'm sure she's fine."
The sigh Penny gives in response to the statement is hardly reassuring, given that Casey had been counting on providing her mother with some manner of relief. In truth, she'd been doing so in part as a means of attempting to find some of her own along the way. Her mother's lingering concern does nothing to waylay the twisting of something not all that far from apprehension in her gut, though. In fact, it only seems to make it grow.
Casey honestly hates the idea of being so nervous, her teeth digging into the skin on the inside of her cheek to try to do something—anything—to make the feeling go away. Her body seems to shy away from her mother's one-armed embrace at the same time. Before too long, she is hovering at Penny's side, her fingers knotting together for want of anything else to do. And that, of course, tips her mom off to the fact that something is wrong far quicker than anything she might say ever could.
"Listen, if you—if you're having second thoughts—"
"I'm not."
"But if you are. We can always figure out something else. Maybe you could take classes online, or—"
"Mom!"
"Hmm?"
"I'm going to be fine."
"I know. I know you will be, sweetheart," Penny admits, reaching for her daughter's hand before Casey can fully avoid it, and threading their fingers together before offering a gentle squeeze, "I'm just—really gonna miss you."
"Don't let Amelia hear you say that. I think she might actually be looking forward to having you all to herself."
"Believe me, Casey, she's going to miss you too."
"Well I'd certainly hope so. Me being the amazingly cool stepsister that I am, and all."
Penny's laugh provokes a small smile from Casey in response, and for a moment she actually feels as though she can do this. As though when her mother walks out of the dorm and climbs in her car to drive away, she will remain steadfast. Confident. Strong.
She has to be that way. There is simply no other way around it. After all of the comparisons made over the years regarding how similar she is to her father, how could there be anything else for her to do but push forward? How can she do anything other than charge ahead, and hope for the best?
"Don't think. Just do."
Unfortunately for her, in this particular moment at least, that advice seems to be far easier said than done.
"You're sure you don't want me to stay around?" Penny asks then, glancing around the dorm room yet again, as though trying to come up with a feasible reason to stay, "Because Amelia's concert isn't until Friday night—"
"I think you and I both know that Hank isn't going to approve of you doing that."
"Case—"
"Come on, Mom. It's bad enough that you took extra time to drive me down here and you know it," Casey insists, her fingers tightening on her mother's hand for a fraction of a second before she is once again choosing to pull away, "I don't want to cause any trouble."
Penny frowns in response to the statement, but Casey is turning from her to shift one of her bags onto the bed she has claimed for her own, once again desperate to latch onto something to do. For another way of bolting from reality, small though it may be. She knows that her mother will have to leave, sooner rather than later, and the idea of appearing as unnerved by that fact as she truly is has become far too daunting to face.
For her part, Penny seems to sense this, just as easily as she has picked up on everything else concerning her daughter's moods and whims over the years. And although she hardly wants to leave Casey behind in such a state, she knows that insisting upon staying will only manage to make matters worse.
"You can call me anytime. You know that," She persists, watching her daughter carefully as she turns back to face her head-on, a tremulous smile pulling at both corners of her mouth while her eyes shine with something not all that different from unshed tears, "And you know your dad will be on the first flight out if I somehow can't make it myself."
"I know."
"And now it's time for me to stop talking, and go home?"
"Well I'm not about to actually tell you that," Casey quips, this time managing a more successful attempt at a genuine smile as she allows Penny to pull her in for one final embrace, "Contrary to popular belief, I'm not actually cruel, you know."
"You'll be fine if I allow experience to speak to me for a moment, before I just accept that statement at face value, won't you?"
"Yeah, no. Okay, you can—you can go now, Mom."
"I thought you might say something like that."
Sharing another laugh with her mother in response to the admittedly predictable retort, Casey follows after her as she exits the dorm room and heads through the hall to the door at its opposite end. She leans against the doorframe while Penny climbs inside the familiar Porsche, and draws a pair of sunglasses out of the glove compartment to guard against the evening light.
Casey manages to maintain her composure, even as her mother backs out of the parking spot and heads for the lot's exit a few feet away, her resolve only breaking when she is certain there is no chance that Penny will see it happen firsthand…
A fact for which she is immeasurably grateful as the first of the tears begin to fall.

Meeting your boyfriends sister | Hangman fanfic ✨
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin x Amber ‘Skysolo’ Kazansky
Timeline: Post-Top Gun Maverick
Tumblr media
Summary: She didn’t think she would ever be nervous about something like meeting the family. She has done it plenty of times before but what happens you boyfriend Hangman Seresin’s sister comes to town?
Charcters mentioned: Elena "Enigma" Seresin, Javy ‘Coyote’ Machado, Georgia “Peach” Wells and etc.
Top Gun Maverick AU
——
Amber Kazansky had been though a lot in her lifetime so far. From moving around as a child to different states to watching her aunt Carol die in her teens. Hell she has seen her father go through cancer and survive it.
She has seen friends break up, others get married and move on with their lives. So it was something she was fine with.
It was part of life, meeting people and trying to see if things worked. And if they did, you meet your lover’s friends. They get to meet your parents, seeing if they approve of your relationship.
But meeting her boyfriend’s sister? That was not one of them. So imagine her surprise when she founds out she’s in town for the weekend.
She. Was. Actually. Terrified!
Yeah she Amber has met a boyfriend or two’s brother and sister in the past. But a naval base boyfriend’s siblings? Never. Jake Seresin was her first boyfriend to be a pilot and a damn good one. Sadly he wasn’t good at breaking news like this.
Because he decided to break the news right before they went to sleep the night before. He said he had something to tell over dinner but forgot about it. But he remembered it right before he turned off the bathroom light and jumped into bed with her.
And he said it so casually too! Like it was the most normal thing in the world?! She knew he had siblings but she wasn’t expecting for her to come over to visit her in the next 24 hours.
Which lead her to find herself roughly tapping her French tips against her desk the next morning. Biting the tip of her nail on one hand as the other typed away furiously on her keyboard. She was filing in information for her father. His assistant, Mindy, sent a small stack of paperwork for her transfer over into spreadsheets within the next couple of days.
She was so focused on her laptop screen, having Rocket Man playing from her speakers, that she didn’t hear friend come in.
Tumblr media
Georgia smiled chatting with Bradley at the door as he gave one kiss goodbye before she walked in. She hung up her jacket and set her lunch down on table nearby, grabbing her laptop from the cart. She left it charging earlier beforehand.
“Hey Amber.” She said with a peachy grin on her face as she started rambling about her morning. It was the cutest thing. Her eyes fell onto the blonde who was only half playing attention to what happened, making the brunette pause in her tracks.
“Uhh, earth to Sky? Amber, honey? Hello?” Georgia asked, waving a hand in the air and sighed, “Kazansky!”
“Huh?! What? I’m here, sir!” She yelled snapping out of it, ripping her fingernails away from the tips of her teeths, “Oh, what’s up sweets?”
“I was talking to you and you weren’t listening. That’s what’s up! What’s going on? Your usually cracking a joke by now.”
“You know. I can be very busy, busy, busy bee!”
“Ha! No. That ain’t it. Your always on a semi-busy monthly schedule but this is different. What happened? Was it Rooster and Jen?”
“No..”
“Uhh, hmm. Did Coyote say something stupid again?”
“No he didn’t. Neil didn’t do anything either.”
“Ohh was it Cyclone’s girl Valkyrie?! She’s a tough cookie!”
“No it wasn’t. Nor was it anyone else like Frostbite.”
Georgia’s eyes widen and gasped, “You and Jake had a fight? What did his sorry southern ass to do you? I’ll talk to him. I’ll get Phoenix and Frost as my backup. No one hurts my girl and gets away with it!”
Amber couldn’t help but laugh as she leaned against her chair. Peach was such a doll sometimes. Always so sweet and charmingly spiritual with the way she carried herself. She tend to get nervous and annoyed sometimes but other than that she was well..a peach!
Honestly she needed that today. A laugh from a friend.
“That’s not exactly what Jake said…it wasn’t a fight! We didn’t fight each other for anything. Oh god, I’m sweating. I don’t like this.” Amber admitted with a soft chuckle.
“Oh god something is up if you’re sweating bullets out of nervous. Come on, spill it out!” Georgia encouraged with a certain look.
“I’m meeting my boyfriends older sister today!”
“OH MY GOD! That’s great. From what I received from past relationships, that’s a good thing. That means he likes you, a lot! I’m so happy for you!”
“Now is not the time to be supportive! I’m freaking out, what if she doesn’t like me? What if she hates me and tells Jake stop dating me?! Tell him to aim higher?! That I suck! Cause technically, it’s kinda my fault I put him on a death defining mission to come back to Top Gun. Oh god she’s gonna hate me!”
Georgia stood there with her jaw dropped onto the damn floor. This was one of the first time she ever seen Amber Nic Kazansky in such a frenzy. This woman was always cool, calm and collected from the moment she met her. Giving her advice, by saying if everything is okay and sending a message to everyone on deck she meant every word she ever said.
Yeah sure, she had her moments where she lost her cool like an X-Men during a fight with Wolverine or something. Living up to her callsigns. Like when Jake and Bradley were arguing in the classroom or when Cyclone refused to listen to her and Maverick during the missions they went on.
But this?!
Here she stood in her office freaking out over meeting the family. It was honestly kinda hilarious to her. If she wasn’t such a good friend she would’ve recorded this and sent this whole thing as a video to the group chat.
But honestly it was cute though. It reminded people like her that the Kazansky family was just as human as the rest of them.
It was Georgia turn to calm her down.
“Hey, Amber. Amber, honey look at me. Look at me. Good. Just relax you’re gonna be fine.” Georgia encouraged, holding her shoulders.
“Wh-how? Sorry. How did you react to meeting Jen? She’s practically like a sister to Rooster.” Amber replied, taking a breath.
“Yeah well, I was freaking out cause her dad is sorta a legit legend, but I found her that she’s a total goofball. So maybe eh-what’s her name?”
“Elena.”
“Right, pretty name. Maybe Elena is the same way, just some cool chick. So go on, your gonna be late.”
“But what if she doesn’t like me and Jake didn’t say anything about me? Oh god what if she hates blondes?”
“Ok, now your rambling. Relax, you just gotta prove why your the first Mrs. Hangman. That ring on your fingers means something, right?”
“Right. Right..i yeah, I got this.”
“You got this! Now go on, I have a meeting with Wraith now.”
“Okay but..”
She didn’t have a moment to say anything else because Georgia practically pushed her out the door. She could’ve sworn she’s rubbing off on the brunette with her actions. Amber relaxed her shoulders, she was right. Elena probably a cool girl, relaxed and lay back.
But she was also beauty.
She seen the picture of her last night before she went to sleep. She was stunning with beautiful long blonde hair, pretty eyes glowing like a goddess of the sun and a lovely smile that take someone’s breath away. From just her pictures she seemed like the best women in the world.
A ray of sunshine wrapped up in pretty dress.
Hell she wanted to date her!
The moment Amber entered the cafeteria, her heart stopped. She saw her.
Tumblr media
God she was even prettier in person. Laughing in mid conversation with Frostbite—Rachel, chatting about god knows what.
Elena was enjoying herself greatly. It made her smile.
Her outfit was so sweet, her smile was sung by as she laughed and her makeup made her shine.
Amber pushed her hair out of face walking over to the pair who sat at the table, chatting about they’re active services. Once she got closer she heard them a lot clearer.
“Oh stop it!” Elena said mid laugh waving her hand, “You’re the one who got her first air to air kill last week. You should be overjoyed! It’s amazing.”
“Ok it’s not as cool as you! Yeah sure, Jenny and Wraith encouraged me to do it but still.” Rachel added with a chuckle, “You have been to so many different places. That’s awesome.”
Both girls acknowledge her walking over to them.
Frost smiled sheepishly and chuckles, “Hey, have you met Elena? She’s new.”
“No, I haven’t.” Amber repiled with a soft smile turning to the blonde, “Hi.”
“Hey.” Elena said with a smile, “Nice dress.”
“T-thanks. So is yours, I love the pattern!”
“Thank you! I got it from H&M, big sale last month.”
Rachel got a phone call and realized it was one of their friends, excusing herself as she left with a small wave. That left both women to stand there awkwardly chuckling, before Elena realized what her was name again. She remembered her brother telling that her that his girlfriend worked here in the building.
She assumed this was her? But she could be wrong.
So she smiled pointing to the seat in front of her and said, “Sit. Please. Sorry I’m a little nervous, which is rare because I’m not like this.”
“It’s fine, I’m nervous too. Jake has told me about you.” Amber repiled with a smile, sitting down across from her.
“Ohhh! You’re his girlfriend? I’m sorry, he didn’t even show me a picture of you, just told me your name. He just told me that I’ll probably bump into you today.”
“Hahaha! He told me the same thing, he can silly sometimes.”
“No, he can be an idiot sometimes.”
Both girls chuckled breaking the ice a bit.
“He just said, ‘hey since your coming here for the weekend! Come meet my girlfriend.’ That’s all he said.” Elena explained with a chuckle, “I was supposed to be here last week but my boss decided to change my schedule.”
“No, it’s okay! Things happen, my schedule ain’t always the clearest either. Literally Jake just threw that information at me last night so casually. I was freaking out…I mean, you sound cool according him.” Amber repiled as she shyly smile.
Elena found it cute. How did her brother get a someone like her? She seemed so sweet and honestly pretty nice. She felt bad she didn’t get information from her baby brother beforehand, she was completely clueless about this girl.
But it a good thing in her opinion, a clean slate.
“Sounds like him, she tends to tell people stuff and never make himself clear. He’s like a bird strike, I guess.” Elena said with a smile, thinking about all the times her little brother messed up.
“Oh your correct. He knocks someone off course and brings you along for the right. But it’s a nice ride.” Amber added thinking about something and smile, “How about we start over?”
“How so?”
“It’s kinda been a long week for us and I think we should just relax..”
“I like that. Actually I love that! Good idea.”
Amber smiled holding out her hand for the blonde to shake and said, “Hi, I’m Amber Nic Kazansky. Very nice to meet you, Ms. Seresin.”
“Haha! Nice to meet you too, Ms. Kaz—” Elena replied, stopping herself realizing what she just heard and laughed, “Wait! Kazansky?! You’re the Admiral’s daughter?”
“Hahaha yes. Why? I’m sorry that last name kinda surprises people.”
“Surprises people?! How did-? No offense, but i thought the admiral’s kid would have guards nearby or something…sorry.”
It was Elena’s turn to become shocked and a bit nervous but excited all at the same time.
She didn’t know her baby brother was dating the admiral’s kid?! For how long, she didn’t know. He aimed high! Respectfully, she would date an admiral’s kid too if they let her. Even steal her brother’s girlfriend off his hands!
She was impressed. Very impressed.
Amber chuckled, “It’s okay. People like to make rumors around here.”
“Real question, how did my brother pull you? No offense, but he’s a little stupid.” Elena replied with a laugh.
“I guess I like ‘em a little dumb.”
“Oh I like you.”
“Hahaha, the Seresin siblings are one of a kind.”
“And clearly my brother has good taste in women. He got it from me! Where do you work?”
“I was gonna ask you the same thing!”
“You first.”
“Okay um. I’m a training officer for recruitment here. I overlook plenty of paperwork for research, send people on missions and organize them.”
“Lieutenant, huh? Respect. I’ll love to see your office some time.”
“What about you?”
“Oh! I work as a lead engineer at the aerospace engineering firm.”
“Wait! Really? That’s so damn so cool.”
“Thanks! I worked on designing cutting-edge aircraft with advanced maneuvering capabilities. All kind of planes.”
“How have we not met before?”
“I have no idea.”
“My uncle Mav, he was the one to worked with you guys for a project a while back. Uh, The Darkstar projects?”
“Yes! That was him?! Everyone was talking about it! He reached so high on the list that day and survived being ejected.”
Both girls laughed, kept chatting and smiling the whole time.
Amber decided to walk her around the building and probably head out to lunch later on. Elena smiled liking that idea very much, holding the door for her as they walked out of the room. Realizing they had nothing to worry about, it was all Jake’s fault that they were so nervous in the first place.
Little did they know Jake Seresin was sitting across the room with Rachel, Javy and Neil watching the whole thing, with his jaw on the floor. He glad they didn’t hate each other or anything but he wasn’t expecting for it to go so well.
Neil was laughing at his reaction and muttering, “Your screwed now.”
“W-what just happened?” Jake asked, sipping his glasses of a water.
Rachel snorted, “I think your sister just stole your girl. Honestly i don’t blame Amber, she’s cool. I’ll date her.”
That was when Jenny walked in with a smirk hearing her and asked, “Who would you date, Frosty?”
“Uh huh? What? Shut up, I’mma shut up now.” Rachel said, rested her head on her shoulder.
“Weirdo.” Jenny repiled with a scoff, grins at Javy and asks, “What we talking about?”
Javy grinning back and chuckles, “The Seresin siblings.”
“I made a huge mistake letting my sister and girlfriend meet, didn’t I?” Jake added downing his drink with a sigh.
His friends just laughed.
Thanks for reading this one! Tell me what did you think about it?

Last day of October, so I thought I would sneak this in for Whumptober vibes even though it doesn’t fit a specific prompt.
Master List
Tumblr media
It always seemed fitting to Jake how his callsign was synonymous with ‘killer.’
After his first air-to-air, all anyone could talk about was how great of a pilot he was. How he had perfect aim and not a lick of fear in his system. But all Jake saw in the mirror was a man desperate to rub the blood off his hands, as if the blood of innocent people hadn’t stained his skin since he was a child. As if he could even remember a time when there wasn’t blood on his hands.
The second that his callsign was announced, he was suddenly brought back to all those therapy sessions that his dad set up for him when he was a kid. And then for the first few weeks of his life as ‘Hangman,’ every time that he heard his callsign, it was like the ghost of his mom popped up and slapped him across the face over and over again.
And Jake didn’t talk about his mom.
Not with his dad. Not with his uncle. Not with Javy. Definitely not with Bradley. Not with anyone.
The subject was simply too sensitive, too personal, and too overwhelming to talk about without some kind of illicit substance in his system. The last time that he really sat down and talked in depth about his mom was in therapy when he was probably fourteen or so. Every time someone tried to bring up the subject, he shut it down. He always just shut down.
He’d been over it a thousand times with Dr. John and his dad sat him down a number of times over his childhood, but it never fully clicked in Jake’s head. Or maybe he simply didn’t want it to stick. For whatever reason, he always looped around to the idea that it was his fault. It was all his fault.
His mom was dead because of him. He had her blood on his hands.
And he knew that it was ridiculous. How was he supposed to know that the night would go like that? It was supposed to be day of celebration, not a day of tragedy. And it wasn’t like he could have changed what happened in the moment. He was asleep in the backseat when it happened.
But those thoughts were still there, tucked in the back of his mind, and popping up at the most inopportune times in his life. The ones where he heard his dad and his uncle and his Aunt Carole and even his mom herself yell those three words at him.
It’s your fault.
And he believed them. Every time.
Maybe it was one of the Mitchell traits he inherited from his mom—the need to turn oneself into Atlas. The one to bear everyone else’s burdens. Ice mourned Jake’s mom, Jake knew. There’s a photo of his father standing at the funeral that would haunt Jake for years. It was the expression of a man who had broken into a thousand pieces the night before and barely glued them back together in time.
But Ice moved on. He found happiness again. He lived his life.
But Maverick coped in a way similar to Jake. There were photos of Jake’s mom all around Maverick’s hangar and throughout his personal belongings. Maverick gave Jake plenty of mementos of his mom, little pieces of her to keep with him for when he needed them.
But the clearest difference was on Jake’s birthday.
On Jake’s birthdays after the accident, when Ice was home, it was like a normal child’s birthday. There was cake with candles, there was singing, there were presents. Jake didn’t want them, but he went along with it to keep his dad happy. After all, if he was successfully lying to his therapists, he could successfully lie to his dad too.
But the birthdays where Ice was gone and it was just Maverick, there wasn’t much of anything. Maverick would take him for a long drive or a long flight, most of which was silent. They would have dinner at a restaurant and then there was a simple cupcake with a singular candle. And that was it. No singing, no presents, no excess. It happened and then they moved on. End of story.
Because no matter how many times he sat down with his therapist or his dad and talked it over, it never left his mind that his birthday and the anniversary of his mom’s death were the same day. And they would continue to be. Forever.
“You have a tattoo?” Phoenix asked, breaking Hangman out of his deep thoughts.
He turned to spot Phoenix behind him, casually sipping on a beer like the rest of the Dagger Squad—save for Bob, anyways—were on the sand. They had just wrapped up a long day of beach football and were all content to simple sit and watch the waves. And it was that serenity that seemed to pull Jake into that part of his mind that he tried to keep under lock and key at all times.
“Yeah,” Jake replied, subconsciously reaching for it.
Between his shoulder blades and below the traditional shirt neckline were two simple wings that somewhat resembled the Top Gun symbol over his mother’s name, which was written in her own handwriting that he salvaged from some letters that she wrote to his dad.
He got it done when he was eighteen. On his birthday, actually. That was one of the years when Ice wasn’t home. Maverick took him and didn’t ask questions. Not before. Not during. And not after. Ice didn’t find out about the tattoo until about eight months later and when he saw it for the first time, he simply pulled Jake in for a tight hug before excusing himself for a moment.
“And that’s the only question that I’m answering about it.”
Getting up from his seat, Jake muttered something as an excuse before leaving the beach on his own. Rooster and Javy were the only two people in the group who knew the meaning behind the tattoo and it was going to stay that way.
Because Jake didn’t talk about his mom.
Phoenix looked confused at how a single harmless question had gotten Jake into such a state, but the look on Javy’s face told her that she wasn’t going to get any answers. So, the rest of the Daggers simply bid goodbye to Jake, who carried on as if he didn’t hear them. Reaching his truck, Jake pulled his shirt back over his head and started to prepare to drive out when Maverick came walking over.
“You going home?” Maverick asked Jake, who did not respond verbally. After a moment, Maverick nodded and added, “Give her my love.”
“I will,” Jake stated softly before starting the truck.
Picking up the brightest flowers available from the grocery store on the way, Jake gripped the steering wheel tightly. When he came to a stop light, Jake glanced down at the bright yellow flowers he bought. His dad told him that his mom always insisted that he had to buy bright and fun flowers. Nothing serious like roses or too dark, lest someone think they were for a funeral.
Parking along the cemetery road, Jake walked down the aisle of green grass before pausing at a simple gray stone that had ‘Kazansky’ carved into it. His mother’s first name laid below it with the phrase ‘Loving Mother, Wife, and Sister.’ And then her date of birth and date of death, which was also Jake’s fourth birthday.
Jake tidied up around his mother’s grave before placing the bright yellow flowers down beside the longstanding photo of the family of three—Ice, her, and Jake. It was taken three months before his mother’s death. There was also a toy F-18 that Maverick left there a long time ago that seemed to be integral to the set up now.
He sat down, but did not say a word.
Because Jake did not discuss his mom. Not even with her.

Now hold on!! What about an iceman blurb! Anything would work honestly
prompt I chose: I love the way your brain works.
"how's it going?" Ice asks from his spot on the sofa, glancing over at you on the loveseat. you're hunched over, eyes narrowed in concentration, lips tucked between your teeth. "don't hurt yourself."
"I'll bite you," you warn absently, not glancing up at him.
he smirks, just about to quip something witty back, when you drop your voice a few octaves and mock him, "I should be so lucky."
"trying to say I'm getting predictable or something, slugger?"
"love it when you talk baseball to me," you mutter, still not looking away from your deformed chain. "gets me real hot and bothered."
he can't wipe that grin off his face--that broad one that only you can stick on his lips for more than a few fleeting minutes.
your fingers are tangled in yarn, as are your forearms somehow, and you can't quite figure out how yarning over works or what the fuck chaining one even means. your concoction doesn't look great--hardly looks good, even--but it's much better than when you first started.
Ice knows that you're dedicated like this. you'll spend your day off picking up a new hobby and obsessively restart it until it begins to resemble something remotely successful. he admires it, really, how stubborn you are about it.
since this is a rare day off for him, too, he spent it doing the things he enjoys but hardly gets to do. he went for a run, grabbed decent coffee from the local roasterie, grilled steak for dinner. and now he's watching an old baseball game--except he's moreso been watching you diligently work on whatever it is you're making.
"whatcha making anyway?" Ice hums, raising his brows and craning his neck to look at the twists of yarn in his lap.
very seriously, you hold up a very uneven and pathetic rope that took you more time than you care to admit to complete, and look him dead in the eyes.
"a scarf," you tell him, "for you."
and dammit if he doesn't have a hard time keeping up that cool exterior. so much so that when he's at home with you, there's really no such thing as Iceman--he's just Tom. still, he tries to keep some semblance of composure.
"oh?" he asks, his heart pulsing with affection. with the baseball game still droning on in the background and totally forgotten, he pushes himself up on his elbows before nodding sharply for you to come to him. "c'mere. I wanna try it on."
you debate it for a moment, looking down at your creation. it isn't necessarily what you envisioned when you started out. it's certainly not thick enough to be a scarf--nor is it long enough to wrap around his throat twice.
"c'mon," he encourages, a grin tugging at his lips. "I won't bite."
and this time, Ice mocks you, raising his voice a few octaves and waggling his eyebrows: "I wish you would."
narrowing your eyes at him, but biting a smile all the same, you slink off the sofa and then settle yourself on his lap, a fair amount of blue yarn trailing behind you.
Ice, smirking, holds onto your thighs and watches as you detangle yourself from your creation, eyebrows knit.
"got it, slugger?"
"you're in the danger zone," you warn, all bark and no bite. "here."
he sits up and lets you wrap the scarf around his throat, never minding that it's the middle of summer in California or the fact that he only has on a tee-shirt and boxers right now.
and then you press your palms against his hard belly, lips pursed as you admire the color against his tanned skin. he's grinning up at you, massaging the meat of your thighs until you're squirming a bit.
"how do I look?" he asks.
sucking your teeth, you fidget with a particularly strange looking stitch.
"whipped," you answer honestly.
he barks out a big laugh and you keen.
"that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen," you chuckle. he's still laughing and now you're laughing harder, too. "I mean, really, don't wear that out of the house! it's bad!"
"no, it's not!" he insists.
groaning, you collapse on his chest, cheek pressed against his neck.
"I just wasted my day off," you complain, but he can still feel that smile on your lips, that chuckle in your throat.
he smooths his hands over your hair, humming.
"nuh-uh," he insists. "I love it. really, I do! I'm gonna wear it to work tomorrow."
"fat chance," you snort.
he teasingly pinches your sides until you're squeaking and burrowing deeper against the warm skin of his throat.
"how 'bout this," he starts, tucking your hair behind your ears and craning his neck to catch your gaze. "Mav's birthday's coming up. we could always...regift."
grinning, you hold his cheeks.
"I love the way your mind works."

Game Changer: Chapter Three
warnings: mentions of cheating, brad brad is adorable
Tumblr media
Bradley Bradshaw woke up on Sunday morning with an aching headache. Thanks to the bottle of Scotch he had last night, he had also woken up with the urge to puke all over his San Diego condo. This has been Bradley’s morning routine ever since his very public divorce with Hollywood movie star Alyssa Moore.
Alyssa had cheated on Bradley with world famous actor Idris Elba. Their divorce was all over the tabloids and frankly, Bradley felt embarrassed and upset over the news being everywhere.
His conversation with Jake in the locker room last night made him realize something. The best way to get over one person was to get under another one. And who better to get under than the Padres new clubhouse reporter.
Bradley asked Alexandra out because he wanted to get over his ex wife. He decided to take a quick shower before hopping in his Bronco and driving to the address you had texted him last night.
Alexandra anxiously paced around her apartment while her roommate Giliana watched from afar. “What if this is just platonic and I'm making this out to be something it isn’t?” She pondered out loud.
Giliana placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. “You never know until you try.” She said encouragingly. “You look great and if it’s just platonic, so be it. At least you have an ally in the clubhouse now.”
Giliana was right, Alexandra realized. If things went bad it wouldn’t be the end of the world. And if they went good…well you’d think about that later.
As Bradley arrived at the address Alexandra texted him, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous. It had been so long since he’d dated someone new and although he was trying to get over Alyssa he didn’t want to hurt you in the process. After all, Alexandra was going to have to interview him throughout the season. He climbed out of his Bronco and knocked on your door.
Inside the apartment, Alexandra’s heart skipped a beat as she heard Bradley knock. “It’s just drinks with a coworker.” Giliana reminded her “Just breathe.”
As she opened the door, her eyes met Bradley’s. It might have sounded silly but she felt like time had stood still. She could sense Bradley’s anticipation in the air. He offered her a soft smile.
“Hi Bradley,” She greeted him with a warm smile. Her voice tinged with excitement and nervousness.
“Hey Alexandra,” Bradley replied with the same amount of anticipation. “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah let’s go.” With that, Bradley led Alexandra to his car. He opened her door and delicately adjusted her seat. As Bradley and Alexandra settled in the car, a comfortable silence enveloped them. Alexandra couldn’t help but to steal quick glances at Bradley, noticing the way the streetlights cast a warm glow on his sharp features.
Once they reached the bar, Bradley quickly went to open her door and lead her inside. Once they sat down and ordered their drinks, Bradley decided to break the silence. “So Alexandra,” he began, “how long have you been covering sports?”
“Professionally I've been covering sports for about five years now.” She answered, voice tinged with excitement. “How’s the season shaping up for the Padres?” She asked in return.
Bradley smiled grateful for her interest in his job. When he was with Alyssa, the last thing she wanted to hear about was baseball. Alyssa would not even bother to go to Bradley’s games or listen to his remarks about a particularly stressful game.
Even though Bradley had just met Alexandra he felt a strange connection to her. She was genuinely kind and caring and he had only known her for two days. Her interactions with his manager and his teammates showed that she actually cared not only about the sport, but about the players.
“Spring training was a rollercoaster.” Bradley laughed. “But I'm hanging in there. I’ve got a great team and great people around me to motivate and encourage me, you know?” He said while taking a bite out of your shared fries.
As Bradley and Alexandra continue their conversation, the dim lights around the bar cast a warm glow on them. The hums of chatter and the clinking of glasses seem to fade into the background. Their eyes meet, locking in. Filled with unspoken words and attraction. Bradley’s heart races with anticipation as he leans in, his breath mingling with Alexandra’s in the small space between them.
Gently, Bradley cupped her upper cheek and his thumb tracing her jawline. He closed the space between them. The moment their lips meet it feels as though time stands still.

Kat was sitting on the Kitchen’s table. She was talking by Facetime with Maverick. In San Diego, it was about 6pm. In melbourn, it was tomorrow morning. But Mav didn’t forget. Mav never forgot. “You didn’t have to.” Said Kat. “You should spend all the time you can with your daughter. I could wait for your return and wish me a Happy Birthday.” From the other side of the room, Jake looked at his girlfriend. Kat doesn't like her birthday. And before today, he didn’t know why.
_______________________________
They went to Kazansky's house with Bradley for lunch. It was a kind of family tradition that Sarah, the Admiral’s second wife, still respects two years after his death. Mrs Kazansky took her step daughter in her arms in warm hugs, as she always did since the first day they began to live in the same house.
After the lunch, Bradley, Jake, Kat and Sarah sat in the living room and Sarah brought a box and a thin gift package. Kat gave her a disapproved look. She didn’t like birthday’s gift. Jake was still thinking about a way to make her accept his.
“Before you say anything, this one is not for you.” Sarah told, holding the boxe. “I did some tidying on Tom’s desk. I found some photos from his Top Gun’s days. I keep it for Maverick, I will give it to him when he'll be back from Australia. But I also found photos that date from some years that followed.” She looked at Bradley and gave him the box. Bradley opened the box carefully. He took the photos in his hand and the other pilots looked at it with him.
In the first photo, Bradley must be around 3 years old. He is sitting at a table on the terrace of an ice cream parlor with a chocolate ice cream in his hand (and in fact a lot of chocolate ice cream in his face). Next to him, a blond-haired woman : Carole. Sitting on the other side of the table was a very young Tom Kazansky, tan skin and shining smile. On his side, a woman with long brown hair : Becca not-yet-Kazansky. They are all smiling and they brandish the ice cream.
In the next photo, a five years old Bradley is building a sand castle with young Maverick and Iceman.
Third photo, Bradley is on the shoulder of Tom. “You told me that you knew the Admiral since your childhood but I didn’t know that you were that close.” said Hangman.
“Aunt Becca was a close friend of my parents. Almost family. She always stayed around after my father’s death.” Kat stayed quiet, watching her parents' faces.
Sarah handed Kat the thin gift. “I promise it didn’t cost me more than a frame’s price.” Said Sarah with a wink. Blizzard slowly opened the package. It was, in fact, a photo frame. The photo has been taken on an airport tarmac. Kathleen was young, about 6 or 7 years old. Behind her, Iceman is dressed in civilian clothes. He is older than in Bradley’s photo but young and shining. Storm is wearing her flight suits, smiling and beautiful. “I know this photo” Kateen whispered in a breath.
“According to the date written on the bask, it looks like it had been taken on…” Kat interrupts her step mother. “On my seventh birthday.” Jake could see Bradley tensed and he heard Kathleen’s voice break. Something was wrong.
Blizzard resumed herself and thanked Sarah. Even if she is smiling, her tone was a little more cold. Something was definitely wrong.
______________
Kazansky’s House, two years ago
Kathleen sighs at the moment she passed through the door of her family’s house. She hasn't come back since the beginning of training.
It was a fucking mess. Blizzard asked to not be deployed when she heard about her father’s relapse of his disease. No one in the Navy knew about it, but her demand has been approuve. But the Navy thought that Blizzard’s skills were too precious for this mission. So instead of being able to select her for the mission, they asked her to assist Maverick as instructor.
Blizzard wondered if there has not been an idea of her father in this idea. Silently asking her to be the peacemaker between Maverick and Rooster.
Sarah welcomed her with a warm hug. “Where is he ?” Kat asked immediately. “In his room.” she replied. “He has just had a visit from Maverick. He is a little tired. But go on. He wouldn’t like to miss you.”
Kathleen climbed the stairs and knocked at the door. She heard a cough from the other side. She opened the door and entered the room slowly.
Her father laid in the bed, leaned against the headboard. “‘I’ll take the cough as an invitation to enter.” She said with a little smirk. Iceman smiled at her daughter and made a sign to come and sit down in the bed next to him. As soons as Kat was settled, Iceman took his phone and so did Blizzard. Talking is now painful for him. So he used all he could to communicate.
How is the training going ?
Blizzard sigh. Of course he wanted to talk about work. It was more easy for him that talking about the fucking things that avoid him to speack. So Blizzard talked to him about work. Training, pilots. The ghost of Goose that was flying with them. Even about this ashhole of a Hangman that discovered the truth about Rooster’s father and threw it in his face in the debriefing room.
“I know you wanted me to find a way to put Maverick and Rooster together. I know it’s what Carole would like and what my mother would like. But I’m not sure I'll be able to.”
You will find a way. Maverick is gonna listen to you. And Bradley always listens to you.
Kat heaved a tired sigh. She was exhausted. Tom made a sign to come in his arms. No needs to be asked twice. She laid her head in her father’s chest, enjoying this little break.
She felt his breath on her hair and heard a raspy voice saying “I love you, Kitty Kat.” She held back a sob and whispered back “I love you too, Dad.”
Then his breath became regular and she knew he had fallen asleep.
She took the navy’s folder in the bedside table and went down the stairs to her father’s office. She opened the first drawer and put the folders in there. At the bottom of the drawer there was a frame that bothered her to properly store the papers. She took it away and looked at the photo. She let her fall on his father’s chair.
It was a photo of her parents on their wedding day. Her mother was beautiful in her white dress, laughing while she was looking away, on the edge of the photo. Her father was holding her, dressed in his Navy ceremonial costume, looking at his new wife as if she was the Eighth Wonder of the World.
Kat preciously put back the frame on the drawer. By doing that she moved the computer mouse and the screen lit up again on the last ward that her father previously wrote. Kat couldn't look away from the white letters on the black background.
It’s time to let go.
Kat felt the tears come to her eyes. She put her hand on her mouth, trying to hide her sobs. Then she burst into tears.
_______________
Blizzard just hung up with Maverick. She looked at the photo frame that Sarah gifted to her. She uttered a sigh and turned the frame face to the table.
Jake knows that her parents are still a sensitive subject for Kat. Even almost two years after Iceman’s death, Kat was still having nightmares sometimes.
That's the reason why he hesitated before asking. “What's the story ?” Kat looked at Jake with a questioning look. “The story of this photo. You said you remembered it. And I know you enough to tell that there is something wrong.”
“It’s our last photo together. It was my seventh birthday and the day my mother left for her last mission.”
Jake didn’t need to hear more, he already knew this story. Iceman stopped flying when he became a father. But Storm couldn’t stop. It was stronger than her. Flying was part of her. But when Kathleen was about to turn seven, Storm finally decided to land. It was supposed to be her last mission. It has been in fact her last mission.
“My seventh birthday was the last day I ever saw my mother.” Kat explained. “That's the reason why I don’t like to celebrate it. But my father always wanted to. One day, Carole Bradshaw told me that it was maybe his way to deal with it. Like if he wanted to create new memories to erase the painful ones.”
Jake nods. And then he got an idea. He came closer and looked at her, eyes sparkling, with his signature smirk. Kat stood up, suspicious. But she couldn’t help but smile. She knew this look.
“What’s on your mind, Seresin ?” She asked playfully. “I like the idea of creating new memories” He said, coming closer like a predator. “In fact, I’ve got some ideas of memories we could've created.”
His voice was deeper, almost growling. It sends a wave of heat through Kat’s body. “I’m afraid to not understand.” She said with an innocent voice. “I will need you to explain your idea.”
Jake stuck her against the table. “You know what they say. Actions speak louder than words.”
He raised her by her waist, lifted the skirt of her blue dress and pulled her on the edge of the table while removing her panties. Kat giggled. He kissed her passionately and slipped on his knee, hands on her thigh, head between her legs. Kat bit her button lips and let her head tilted back while she slipped her hand on his blond hair.
Perhaps creating new memories was not a bad idea after all.

thinking about how "Uncle Ice" was likely the only stable father figure in Rooster life. Goose is dead, Maverick betrayed him, but Ice...Ice never left. He would be the shoulder Rooster would cry on, Ice supported him from the shadows always. I can just feel it in my bones that Ice was Rooster's true father figure
