Headcanon that demons with feathered wings and angels have to preen their wings regularly. They shed their feathers on a regular basis and have to fix pin feathers just like birds do. Also just like birds, if pin feathers aren't fully developed yet they cause pain and tenderness. Additionally, like birds, they'll preen each other's feathers (something Angel Dust loves helping Husk with).

Lucifer neglected his wings for so long due to his emotional state that he completely forgot how sensitive pin feathers are until Alastor started messing with them one day. Alastor started messing with some of the more sensitive feathers, which caused Lucifer to involuntarily shift into his full demon form. Alastor 100% did this on purpose because he thought it'd be funny and he's absolutely done it to Husk before
