I have been spoiled with AO3′s amazing tagging and filtering system and now that I’m trying to find a real book to read I’m finding it to be an absolute NIGHTMARE. Any book whose summary I find interesting I have to go scouring online to find content warnings for them, because I’d rather die than be enjoying a book and have a surprise graphic smut scene pop up in my face. Like by all means, why isn’t this normal? Having a page at the front of your book that lists all the warnings, key thematic elements, genres, and relationships included in the book. Like “Some Novel” by John So-And-So has a content warnings page consisting of: mild language, animal death, graphic child abuse, and referenced sexual assault. key thematic elements/genres of this story are: mystery, crime-solving, running away from home, and recovering from trauma.

Content warnings??? Please???? It’d be so helpful because the summary/descriptions of books never mention anything actually relevant like CWs, and I hate going in blind. The author could pull anything. It’d be so much cleaner and effective this way and someone can just open to the warnings page and avoid being potentially triggered when reading.
