A Flicker of Light Sneak Peek

There were planets under Imperial control and then there were Imperial-occupied planets. The difference could be seen in the number of troopers filling the cities and in very visible Star Destroyers that hovered close enough to the surface at times to kick up windstorms below. If a planet were to be occupied, the goal wasn’t loyalty. No, it was well past that point. The goal was subjugation.

Jedha was an occupied planet in every sense of the word. Jedha City was a step further. It was strange. Just a year before, Luke was sure he would have had an excuse for the violent reaction in the streets and the beaten down spirit of the people. Peace came at a cost, after all, and a firm hand secured peace for the ages. Now, though, he kept his thoughts carefully tucked away as they wound their way through markets and beggars and desperate people of every kind. Strangely enough, he had to fight the urge to do something seeing a stormtrooper extract a tax - legitimate or not - from a trembling old woman with a basket full of hardened fruit. All interfering would cause the woman was more heartache.

And then another variable was added. A boy. He was small but nimble, and he moved with accurate speed as he slipped passed the trooper and plucked the payment directly from his gloved hand with no subtlety to cover his tracks. He picked up speed, the white clad stormtrooper followed with a shout, and Luke firmly and deliberately planted his feet, fighting the strange sensation that was only growing.

Leia did not.

Obviously not everyone can be adopted by wealthy, doting rulers, but maybe Luke should have, like, health care?" haha i think we have very different ideas about what obi-wan post ROTS is capable of during his time on tatooine — even if it’s an au where he raises luke as his under a name that isn’t Skywalker, you can’t convince me numb crying and nightmares and going through the motions isn’t at least his job 5 days out of 7. the man cannot start a revolution he can’t even keep his beard neat and tidy. he’s too worried about trying to remember what babies eat to worry about the state of the tatooine health care.

imo, au where it’s decided that they can’t let Luke keep the name Skywalker and be raised on tatooine so obi-wan takes him and goes to another small and inconsequential planet, one with less ghosts. one that he’s never set actually foot on (that he remembers)….Stewjon

meanwhile the Kenobi family on stewjon thinks it’s the most Kenobi thing to not speak to your family for 38 years and then show up heartbroken on the run and with a baby. obi-wan doesn’t MEAN to rely on the Kenobis for help, but he’s just so tired. and there’s something so nice about the community of Kenobi’s who come forward to help him with luke. Younglings are supposed to be raised communally - that’s the only thing obi-wan knows.

Ensign Lars: Human Resources

Star Wars AU in which Luke Skywalker intends to sign up for the Imperial Flight Academy but doesn't meet the height standards, so he settles for the next best choice: Imperial Department of Human Resources.

Luke is 16 when he heads to the imperial garrison in Anchorhead with the intention of enrolling into the Imperial Flight Academy, he didn't take into account the fact that there may or mey not be a height requirement for that

But you know, he's already there, he still wants to get out of his planet and hopefully see the stars with the added benefit of getting that sweet sweet imperial salary, so our boy signs up for the next best choice: the newly formed Human Resources department of the Imperial Military.

So, our boy has a great and easy time getting thru the training process, he's apparently a natural at reading people, their intentions and whether someone is breaking some rule or protocol somewhere near him,, who knows why

Anyway, Luke "Lars" graduates and gets his first assignment, which luckily for him is one of the Navy's star destroyers, so at the end of the day he'll still be able to roam the stars like he always wanted

Oh, what ship you ask? Of course, the Devastator, Lord Vader's flagship

Had Luke known why that ship was in dire need of a human resources officer and he would've listened to his instructor and acceped the offer for the Chimaera instead, but he's a Skywalker and he won't back down from a challenge

Working with Lord Vader was an absolute nightmare. Why? Because this man has a single objective in his life and it appears to be giving Luke enough work to last him a lifetime between having to rehire a quarter of the personnel on a yearly basis and spending half of his days writing letters to the families of the "laid off" personnel and trying to explain that their child has left the land of the living because Lord Vader doesn't tolerate soldiers tripping on a mouse droid within his hearing range

The good side is that at least there are enough competent people so that efficiency is not a problem in the Devastator

Luke still has a bone to pick with Lord Vader murdering half of his hires tho. Let's just say that as a little revenge plot he may or may not have intentionally hired heavily incompetent people to fill those gaps while he's looking for actual decent hires so that his boss can share just a tiny bit of his suffering too

Don't know how Luke didn't figure it out earlier because the moment Vader hooked his thumbs in his belt I was like oh this is a DAD. This guy goes to work and says "Boy, this weather huh?" THE FREAKING CHIMAERA!!!!!! THRAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: THAT is how you do a villain introduction. The percussion buildup as something large approaches (nice touch hinting for a moment that the citadel was shaking because of Sabine’s attempt to use the Force), the pan up reveal of the Chimaera (I freaking love that A. She’s still in service and B. She has the scars from the Battle of Lothal), the slow descent to docking position over the citadel (nice visual cue that Thrawn is taking over as main antagonist), the chanting of his forces (I love that Thrawn’s crew and soldiers are fanatically loyal to him, it hearkens back to the fierce loyalty Thrawn inspires in his subordinates from the EU that you never really see in Rebels), the FREAKING awesome design of Thrawn’s Stormtroopers (the rugged repair jobs were likely a necessity, but the gold pieces were beautiful additions likely hinting at Thrawn’s appreciation for art, potentially even it spreading down the ranks), the contrast between the troopers’ rugged and dirt covered armor and their perfect military form, the restrained eagerness in their tone hinting at their angry desperation to return to the Empire, and the distant looks at Thrawn from behind and the side as he marches toward his allies, the slow zoom in from the front to his small, satisfied smile (I’ve long wished that Thrawn’s eyes were glowing and without pupils like in the EU, and I love how from a distance, his eyes almost look that way, and I think the pupils in live action actually convey that cold emotionless feel that the EU version had). Not to mention that his first line of dialogue had the distinctive Thrawn flavor of poetry that could have come right out of the Thrawn trilogy itself.
