I think a lot about Leo’s tendency to push his way into the spotlight despite clearly being a natural in the shadows. Hell, you could argue that his worst moments are when he’s forcing himself onstage, and his best are when he does things no one notices until it’s already been done.

the thing about the cw’s vampire diaries getting called “southern gothic” is that it doesnt give a fuck about its setting aside from using that to romanticize the confederacy and does not really seem to have any feelings about being southern because it’s a mass market show for teenagers meant to be broadly appealing.
but where it’s set (the no-man’s-land between charlottesville and lynchburg virginia) is actually a place with a very distinct regional character in real life and could actually fit that bill if people knew what it was like. it has not changed population size (15k) since the before the civil war, there’s one stoplight in the entire county, everyone is still grappling with the generational trauma of a flood that happened in 1969 because the river swept whole communities away and isolated everyone else from the outside world for weeks, there’s just this sense that things do not change at all because everyone just grows up and dies next to the same river everyone else in their family did and also it is one of the most beautiful places i have ever been to in my life. there’s SO much there that is an actual southern gothic ass place

Rowing the Rarepair Rowboat: Bamenzo | Bonnie Bennett x Damon Salvatore x Enzo St. John (The Vampire Diaries)
Requested by @blairwaldcrf
The eager rays of sun slip in through the cracks in the blinds and curtains, spilling out in fractions of orange all across the room like a beehive. A light autumn breeze slips in through the open kitchen window and pulls the smell of fresh pancakes through the cabin. There's a symphony of mirth in the laughter that fills every shadowed crevice and corner, accompanied by the plucking of guitar strings and a rustling newspaper.
How completely strange it must appear to those on the outside. The three of them up at the crack of dawn, chasing the sun as though it'll never rise again simply to sit around the kitchen table and eat breakfast together. A snapshot of pure domestic bliss.
It strikes Bonnie. She pauses with her pen hovering over her crossword to look over at Enzo, sitting haphazardly on a chair with a foot angled on another one as he strums his strings to some vaguely familiar tune. He stops and rolls his eyes when Damon teases him for messing up a chord, and suddenly they're bickering again with the most joyful of smiles. They wouldn't rather be anywhere else.
Damon cuts their "argument" short as he begins dishing out pancakes onto the plate in the middle of the table. Rising steam reflects in the sun's rays, curling and reaching for the ceiling. The room fills with the delicious smell of strawberries and blueberries.
She smiles and moves to grab a pancake or two when the word she was looking for finally jumps into her head. She hurries to scrawl each letter into the little boxes, then sits back to stare at the completed crossword proudly. Contented.

I think in Act One Serot has had his bond with Refhremmit pinged by the tadpole situation, and they're trying to reach out. Serot's memories start coming back, though they're difficult to parse. The problem is probably that the memories from multiple lifetimes are trying to resurface / getting all jumbled together. I think this results in once or twice a memory coming back in full and slamming him so hard that he accidentally tadpole connects with whoever's nearby and drags them into it. Presumably this can be resisted by passing a wisdom check.
Encountering the sussur blooms in the Underdark really knocks him on his ass. He suddenly gets slammed back into his lifetime as Neheb. He needs the rest of the journey through the Underdark to sit with everything, but by the end, his lifetime as Serot has also come back into clarity. His bond with Refhremmit gets tuned up, too. Now they can communicate clearly. Well, the distance probably poses a problem, but [hand waves]
Act Two I think is very difficult for him. It's not just contending with his memories resurfacing or learning Meresankh wasn't destroyed almost 2,000 years ago or that the shadow-cursed lands were tailor made to piss him off. I think, because the Negative Energy Plane went into creating the Shadowfell and he draws on / is especially attuned to that plane, he is thus doubly susceptible to the shadow-curse. Selune's Blessing + the Moonlantern do work for him, but he is looking physically ill the longer they stay there. His HP actually drops over time and can't be healed until the curse is lifted. He begins to look dead / undead over time as well. I think we're looking at constant migraines and increasing lethargy as well. Again, this heals up when the curse is lifted and they have time away from the shadow-cursed lands on the way to Baldur's Gate, but it's not a fun time while they're there.
On the plus side, he found a lead on an agent of Meresankh: Mystic Carrion. Balthazar was probably in communication with him, idk. I think . . . Carrion has some important relic of Meresankh's. Serot can consume it, which strengthens his bond to them. He can destroy it, which dampens their bond (and consequently his bond with Refhremmit; the two began to twine together after Neheb's death). Or he can simply take it, which will allow him to research how to dissolve the bond.

[ cw: nightmares / trauma / ]
Post-invasion, Mikey sneaks into Leo’s room and when asked by Leo what the problem was, Mikey just smiles and says since he’s awake and knew Leo would be too, he didn’t want either of them alone. Leo laughs and lets Mikey stick around, both of them clumped together on Leo’s bed, watching grainy compilations of old Lou Jitsu commercials on Leo’s phone.
Technically, Mikey didn’t lie. He just didn’t explain everything that led him to Leo’s room. He didn’t explain the nightmare of his arms burning up too bright, too fast, destroyed before Raph and Donnie have a chance to help. He didn’t explain how he woke up with a wail caught in his throat, phantom pain in his arms and chest alike chasing away any semblance of exhaustion. He didn’t explain how his mind made sure he knew, vividly, that if one thing went wrong with his portal, then he would have never seen Leo again.
He didn’t explain, and he didn’t have to. Leo knows his brothers better than he knows himself, and Mikey has always been easy to read. So it’s no trouble to let Mikey know that he’s still with them, that Leo is here and alive with everyone else. And when Mikey finally regains his exhaustion and falls asleep leaning against Leo, Leo simply maneuvers him into a more comfortable position and stays by his side.
He doesn’t move, doesn’t go to sleep - not that he could, anyway. He just mindlessly scrolls on his phone, the soft snores of his little brother filling the room. He stays in place, awake, because he wants to be sure that when Mikey wakes up again it’s to the immediate sight that Leo is alive and well and home.
And, if Leo’s bring honest, that’s a reminder not just for Mikey’s sake.

be honest... if you hadn't been saved and then brainwashed by marcel would you have hated the originals as much as you did?
random asks for Davina ⸻ Anonymous
davina has never thought about this , about how things might've been different if she had just gone through with the Harvest , learned from the ancestors & had the unwaivering faith & trust in her coven . but it all seemed like a twisted web now , where things didn't seem to have a starting point & how things would be right now if this didn't happen .
if Sophie never came back to town , never informed Marcel of the Harvest , if he never stopped it & saved her ⸻ well , the witches wouldn't have kidnapped & manipulated the situation to get Klaus to New Orleans to take down Marcel . If Marcel never saved her , she wouldn't have been locked in the attic & doing his bidding of detecting when the witches performed magic because she wouldn't have the ability to detect the magic of the New Orleans Witch .
If she wasn't so powerful & naive to the world , she wouldn't have been so easy to influence . Marcel was the one who had told her about the Mikaelsons , about how bad they were ⸻ but in the same vein , they also showed that they were what Marcel had described them to be . But Marcel wasn't any better , he was just short countless lifetimes of trauma & devastation .
but that wasn't the question , no . it was asking her if she had never been saved & brainwashed by Marcel , if she would've hated the Mikalesons as much as she did .
' if I was never saved , I wouldn't have met Marcel , would have never met Josh . I would still be living with my mother , doing the tainted biddings of my Coven . But if I am being honest ⸻ ' the witch shrugs , lips pursed together as she exhaled . ' I don't know what would've happened if it never saved . If they ever came to the Quarter , I am sure that I would mistrust & hate them based on my Coven & their beliefs and wants . '
' the better question to ask would've been , if one of the Mikaelsons saved me , would I hold the loyalty I feel for Marcel for them ? or would they betray me like they've done to just about everyone , including each other ? '

is new constellations named after the rynn weaver song??? that one pls if so, i love that song!
Yes it is! I also love that song tbh. It is a Dean x Elena story, but with a healthy helping of Caroline x Elena and eventually Klaus x Elena as well. I don't even know if I can sum this one up, it came together as a collision of many many vibes so maybe I'll just list off some of those:
At this point in my life it was exactly a 10 minute walk to the bus stop to commute to work so you Know I was listening to All Too Well (10 Minute Version) pretty much every day, and in particular the line "just between us did the love affair maim you too?" vibed hard for what this verse became
for some reason New Constellations' outro and the continuous repetition of "what if there's more?" has always brought to mind a woman giving birth, I can't explain it, but that's just the association for me.
How would Elena's life had gone if Stefan and Damon never entered it?
How would knowing the Winchesters for most of her life change her?
How would Klaus react to finding his doppelganger if she was pregnant?
How would Dean handle Jessica's death if he was in a serious relationship when Sam lost her in the same way they lost their mother?
What exactly does it mean to be from a bloodline of women who all seem cursed to terrible fates? Does sharing a face make them a sisterhood even if their fates are different kinds of terrible?
What would Elena's life look like if she had a relationship with Isobel and also Katherine?
What would Alaric's life look like if his reason for becoming a vampire hunter died before he found him?
All of these questions and more I attempt to answer in New Constellations, coming to you idk maybe next lifetime if the way Addendum is progressing doesn't change anytime soon.
And just as he stumbles across the first inkling that she might not stay a sweet little girl forever; Elena Gilbert finds herself, for the first time, dreaming of someone other than Dean Winchester. Instead of his teasing green eyes, easy grin, and beat-up old brown leather jacket, there's her familiar blue eyes, cherubic grin, and that shining green satin dress.
