Look man, if there was any character that would be genuinely upset that Ryou no longer hosted Yami Bakura, it would be Tragoedia.

10 Characters/10 Fandoms /10 Tags
Thank you for the tag @two-hands-toward-the-sun, this took me on a deep delve of my fandom past! Time to roll out my gaggle of glorious bastards again...
Tumblr media
1. Ken Ichijouji - Digimon 02
Babies first blorbo. Puppy kicking, whip weilding antagonist who giveth not a shiteth. With a soul as black as his gloriously groomed locks. Who, by the power of love is transformed into the soggiest little puddle of twink you ever did see. Tragic backstory ✔️ A smorgasbord of issues ✔️ A realtionship with their rival/best friend so obbsessive, you're going to have a harder time proving this ship isn't a thing than it is. ✔️ Ken Ichijouji came with everything a young, naive millennial needed to make their first glorious steps into the world of fandom.
Tumblr media
2. Ryou Bakura/Yami Bakura/Theif King Bakura - (Same body, they count as one!) Yu-Gi-Oh
Ryou Bakura - Adorable British cupcake with the soul of a traumatised lovecraftian cultist. Staring into the abyss while having afternoon tea. Gothic horror in a cream knit.
Yami Bakura - Actual murder floof, the walking personification of a horror podcast. In his wake trails body gore, supernatural mystery and gay subtext. Part demon, part Egyptian theif, 100% bringing sexy back. (bonus points: Florence)
Thief King Bakura - Traumatic back story maketh homicidal rogue. Wears red, has a social circle made up of ghosts and snake monsters... Is this not prime husband material?
Tumblr media
3. Starscream - Transformers
Darling little duplicitous second in command of the Decepticons. Not just any 'Little Shit', THE 'Little Shit'. Simulatiously the dumbest and cleverest bot in any room. And that, my friends, takes a particular breed of talent. Negative traits, scheming, petty, fabulous. Postive traits, scheming, petty, fabulous. Repetitive attempts to off Megatron, play of either the power or fore variety. Not sure which, could be both.
Tumblr media
4. Darth Maul/ General Armitage Hux- Star Wars
I will not and cannot choose a favourite between them. Instead, watch with wonder and awe as I neatly compress them into the same blurb...
Sad meow meow with self-worth issues does galactic war crimes to prove 'daddy' wrong. What do you mean my fixation with thwarting my archnemeis can't be classed as a hobby/career goal/life ambition? My voice can launch a thousand ships... Different circumstances, same truth. Such a pathetic little sausage, you'll want to sit them down and feed them soup. But they know atleast 101 ways to kill you with the spoon... So best not risk it.
Tumblr media
5. Crowley - Supernatural
The diabolical king of cunt serving. Me and my athletic calves are doing this right thing for all wrong reasons...And you can't prove other wise! Alignment: Risk it for a biscuit. Four step program to deal with all life's problems: 1: flirt at it, 2: shout at it, 3: throw (please pick your chosen Winchester or, if pushed, tailor) at it. 4:... Yell bollocks and follow with a whiskey chaser.
Tumblr media
6. Desire/Destiny of the Endless - The Sandman
Again, not picking. Desire, my darling little hell kitten. Destiny, my inglorious bastard in brown...
This is my world, you MFs all just live in it!
My emotions... Which I do not have, are the route cause of everyone else's problems.
Ah humanity, the dust bunnies upon which I sneeze.
Even in a glorified bathrobe, I'm still better then you, and you know it.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that Dream of the Endless is a f*cking dumb ass.
Tumblr media
7. Remy Lebeau (Gambit) - Xmen, Marvel Comics
Marvel looked at their collection of motley mutant misfits. And realised they had a morally dubious, disaster bi shaped hole to fill... And there Remy Lebeau has been for for 30 slutty, slutty years and counting. Sex in fushia pink spandex. Single handily keeping thievery in Americas top 50 kinks. Slowly exhausting the world's supply of playing cards... Must be considered a traitor to the cause atleast once a decade to keep his street cred. Must be considered a secret Summers brother atleast once a decade to keep his ego in check.
Tumblr media
8. Jonathan Crane (Scarecrow) - Batman (DC)
Scythe wielding, reigning and defending Trick or treat world champion since 1941. The physical attributes of a Giacometti sculpture with the rustic aesthetic of the folk horror genre. Grumpy old man syndrome dialed up to eleven. Pets: Craw the crow, Nightmare the raven... Edward Nygma. Built a life manifesto based on a gothic novel... Oh captain, my captain.
Tumblr media
9. Alfie Solomons - Peaky Blinders
All hail the great arisen god of Margate. Who looked upon Tommy Shelby and called him smol. Weilds tomfuckery like a pepper spray straight up the jacksie. Views betrayal as a bonding exercise. Somewhere in his words are the the meaning of life. Still awaiting the lab results as to whether this man is the anthropomorphic personification of chaotic neutral. Not even part of the egg and spoon race. Will still manage to win with a watermelon and a novelty spork.
Tumblr media
10. Elias Bouchard - The Magnus Archives
(art by @felix-krain and @caligosatchel)
Cluedo character brought to life by malevolent eldritch entity for sexy end of the world shinnanigans. I suspect either Proffesor Plum or Reverend Green, professional opinions vary. Maintains the inability to move more than one square at a time when enacting nefarious schemes. Still has a preference for homicide by kitchenware. Comes with all the British, arch dilf energy of an Agatha Cristie villain. Taking the horrors from the hands of privileged elite and unleashing them on unsuspecting white collar workers. Eye, chin and tits first.
Whelp, that's my ten fictional characters/fandoms. Men folk (and Desire) addition. When I say I like them on the morally grey dulux colour chart. I'm not exaggerating. 😅
I'm tagging, at your pleasure @mashumaru @aisalynn @bobbole @tickldpnk8 @writing-for-life @marvagon @missingrache @rriavian @jazzy-a and @ibrithir-was-here

My personal Digimon season ranking
Given August is Digimon month, I cannot help but do one of these. Because, oh boy. I have not made one of those in a long, long while.
Now, let me tell you one thing clear: I have been in the Digimon fandom since Adventure started airing 2000 in Germany. I still vividly remember getting into the show and what the first episodes I watched were. I have obsessed about this show for so long...
But I also have unpopular opinions when it comes to the seasons. So let me get to those.
And please note: I will not list Digimon Adventure: (2020), as I only watched the first 22 episodes and then just dropped it. But I will list Digimon Adventure tri., though it is not quite a season.
#1 Digimon Tamers
Tumblr media
My number one Digimon season is and will probably always be Digimon Tamers. This show really has no right to be as good as it is. Like, holy shit. This show went so hard in so many regards.
It really is the only season of Digimon that has something like a proper pacing. With only a couple of episodes being actual filler, while most do progress either story or character arcs. And those character arcs are so fucking good.
When I was a kid, I got so hooked on Ruki, because she was just such a good female character. But by now I do appreciate them all. (Well, Ryou maybe less, but that is a story for another day. Because he is one of those examples where I also grew up on those games and I love game!Ryou...)
Also, the amount of amazing background characters is kinda hilarious. Like, background figures like Janyuu, Yamaki or Shibumi are so well written.
Not to mention: For a 2001 merchandise TV show with 51 episodes, the animation has no business being as good as it is. How is it, that this series still has better animation than some of the later series?!
So, yeah, all around great show. Love it. Will rewatch most certainly a couple more times.
#2 Digimon Universe Applimonsters
Tumblr media
And while a lot of people will absolutely understand, why I put Tamers in first place, pretty much most people will not get, why I would put Appmon in second place. Because other than Tamers this has a ton of filler episodes.
But to me none of that really matters, based on the fact that I just love the freaking character writing in this show, all the references to computer history and also... The fact that this show is gay as fuck. I mean, holy fuck, the entire Haru/Yuujin thing? Yeah, it warms my little queer heart so much!
But other than that it is another series where I really just love all the characters a ton. Haru is probably the goggle boy I relate to most out of all of Digimon. But I also really loved the other characters in this series, including the Digimon partners and what not.
So, yeah, to me this is my second favorite Digimon show.
#3 Digimon Savers
Tumblr media
Masaru in a way is the polar opposite character to Haru, isn't he? While Haru is this soft spoken, introverted guy, Masaru is just this pure hardcore masculinity! GAAAAR! So, while I do like him less as a character than I like Takato or Haru, I did enjoy the writing in this show quite a lot. There were a ton of personal stakes to the story, that the others seasons did not bring in as much as this show did. And that was something I really enjoyed.
And while it got ridiculous at times, I also liked how Masaru was a bit more involved in the battles by punching stuff. Though I kinda am sad that they did not go with that original concept where all the characters would've been able to punch stuff.
I also enjoyed that the characters were a bit older in this, though ironically my favorite characters from the season are Chika and Ikuto.
#4 Digimon Ghost Game
Tumblr media
There might be some bias here based on the fact alone that it is the most recent season of the franchise. But even though it was basically 100% episodic, I did enjoy almost every one of those episodes. Basically the show is 100% vibes for me, but oh boy, do I love those vibes.
I find this season kinda weird in terms of how it kinda pushed for two Digimon/human ships, with Ruli/Angoramon clearly being coded into the text, while it is also fairly clear that Jellymon is romantically interested in Kiyo. I mean, there always were seasons where you could definitely go for Digimon/human ships....... but it was never like this. But then again: All power to the monster fuckers, right? xD
And yeah... Being a fan of the horror genre, I absolutely adored how many episodes were based around classical horror stories from all around the world. That was so freaking fun! :D
#5 Digimon Adventure 02
Tumblr media
Okay, let me make one thing clear: Digimon Adventure 02 is not a good series. It is not. Knowing what I know about how chaotic it was behind the scenes, aka how chaotic and cursed this production was, this is also not a big surprise. I disliked the show for this for quite long. I mean, there is tons of filler and the animation is soooooo bad in soooo many episodes. I mean, there is a ton of fan animation that is better than this series. But...
It also is kinda charming.
See, the thing about this show is, that I kinda still do like how the characters develop over the show and how... positive a lot of it is. The characters are sweet with each other and even with their enemies. And a huge chunk of the show is also dedicated to the characters outright trying to rebuild the digital world.
Also, this show has Ken, who to this day is one of my favorite Digimon characters. So, fuck it. I actually still kinda like it.
#6 Digimon Frontier
Tumblr media
Fun Fact: I grew up with the Japanese dub of Digimon, but Digimon Frontier is the one season, where I actually kinda liked the US Dub, just based on the US soundtrack for this show. I really kinda liked the vibe it had.
In a way I do feel that this show had in fact the strongest character designs out of all of Digimon. The characters just have the right level of detail. They do not look overdesigned, but also not too simple. I really digged that. And yes, as a kid I cosplayed Takuya a lot.
To me the series just mostly suffers when it comes to the pacing. Not because of the fillers really (I am fine with fillers, as long as the fillers are fun), but rather in terms of the Cherubimon-arc being sooooo long and everything happening after it feeling kind of like an afterthought.
But I still very much like the characters. I just wished they did not make Junpei a glutton. One fat character who isn't a glutton. Is that so much to ask?
#7 Digimon Xros Hunters
Tumblr media
For anyone now going like: "But this is not even a series on its own!" I will kindly ask you: "Shut up, this is my list." Because those couple of episodes from Xros Wars that were clearly just meant to fill the timeslot for a couple more weeks, do have a very different vibes from the rest of the show.
Now, this also is basically just filler + then the crossover event. But... At times this was kinda sweet. I liked the vibes this show had at times and some of the characters were kinda likeable.
And I really liked the opening.
It was not good. Definitely wasn't. But there was stuff about it I liked.
#8 Digimon Adventure
Tumblr media
Yeah, let's get to my most controversial Digimon opinion: I do not like Digimon Adventure a lot. I really don't. Some of the characters are fine, yes, but... I do not like a lot more of this show. Mostly because I fucking hate the crest system and how morally simplistic the show is, with the bad guys just all being bad guys with not much depth. Meanwhile most of the characters are horribly underwritten and have their entire character arcs rushed through within like two episodes.
And I just hate Yamato and how the show just tries to excuse all of his bullshit. There. I said it. I think he is a horrible character. A horrible brother. And a horrible friend. So, yeah, fuck him.
And Nishizono, the showrunner, had no plan where he was going when he started writing. Not entirely his fault, given that he inherited a production that two other writing teams already had abandoned. But maaaaaan, it shows.
#9 Digimon Xros Wars
Tumblr media
What is there to say?
Digimon Xros Wars sucked. It sucked. And to this day I wonder what the drama behind the scenes was. We know there was drama (given the showrunner abandoned the production half-way through!) but details are sparse even ten years later.
But, yeah. Taiki is a fucking Gary Stu and the plot just shifts around him. The story is a whole mess. The female characters get sexualized to no end. Everyone who is not Taiki gets sidelined constantly. The animation is inconsistent. And what not.
And the really sad fact: The manga is so fucking good.
I am fairly certain that most issues are because of production drama. And one day I am gonna find out what that drama was.
#10 Digimon Adventure tri.
Tumblr media
Digimon Adventure tri. is one of the things that by themselves are not good, but get really bad once you consider the universe it is set in. It is one of those things put into an existing canon without honoring the existing canon at all.
It just ignores basically everything happening in 02. The character developments from anything that has happened before. The 02 characters are just not there. The "original chosen children" exist and yet the OVA does not give them the attention they deserve. And Meiko is just... Oh boy. Meiko is just a horrible character for so many reasons.
It is just fucking sad that this exists. So fucking sad. Just why?!
Also, for OVAs the animation is so bad. Soooooo bad.

If you're still doing them, how about top 5 MagiReco OTPs/NOTPs
Ah, it's hard to choose just 5 for the top of my list...! There are a number of ships I really like; I feel like I'm excluding some of my favorite children, haha. These are the ones I think about the most often, though.
5. Urara/Kurara: There's something really sweet about how Urara has seen Kurara at her worst and still loves her unconditionally. ;; On Kurara's end, it's more bittersweet-- she's painfully aware of how much Urara adores her in spite of how nasty and temperamental she can be, and it rips her apart inside because she doesn't feel like she deserves to be loved like that. I will withhold the "kurara loves urara too" essay for now for brevity's sake, but MAN Kurara loves Urara too!! She loves her so much that it's tearing both of them down!!!! RRAAAAGGGHFGDH it's too good......
I find it so cute that Urara refuses to give up on Kurara, even after they had such an ugly breakup. She knows that she messed things up by accidentally being insensitive, but she also knows that Kurara has issues of her own that she needs to sort out. In Urara's Kagome interview, she's like, sure, maybe things are bad right now... but people can change with time, you know? Maybe in a few years, they'll have grown enough emotionally that they'll be ready to make amends and give it another shot. I'm rooting for you, world's most patient clown. o7
Urakura can cover every base from fluff (remember, they used to be best friends!) to angst to hurt/comfort, making it very versatile and engaging to me. Combine that with the trope of "I love you no matter what, and I'll be here for you even on your worst days" (my weakness), and I never stood a chance.
4. Hikaru/Ao: My first Arc 2 ship, and still one of my favorites today! I remember seeing cute fanart for it way back when I first started playing the NA server and being super excited for the game to get to Crimson Resolve so I could learn more about them. :') While NA may have died before then, I am infinitely grateful that fan-translations mean I got to see these two anyway! (thank you hebinomiya and MUT for my life)
To explain a bit about why I like them, hm... They've got a nice dynamic in general! It's on the fluffier side without being bland, I think. Ao is playful in a way that feels a bit distant at first, but slowly opens up and starts to trust Hikaru more (a big milestone for how traumatized Ao is), while Hikaru gets a hit or miss crash course in Making Her Own Decisions. It's also interesting to contrast their individual ways of distancing themselves from their suffering (Ao trying to treat life like a game; Hikaru leaning hard into her role of "the Horse"), especially since they've both criticized the other for... doing almost exactly what they're doing themselves.
The way Hikaru tries to comfort Ao when she's scared or sad is cute, even if she doesn't know how to go about it. While Hikaru is largely numb to having to kill people at this point (wow, that's not depressing at all), she knows Ao isn't, and she gets worried when it seems like Ao is in over her head. Hikaru was the first person to worry about Ao after she accidentally killed Ryou, and when Ao seemed out of sorts in her MSS, Hikaru was the first person to seek her out. It plays nicely with Hikaru's struggle with agency as well-- she wants to help Ao, but she doesn't know where to start because she lacks experience and the ability to think for herself; she's caught between her personal desires (supporting a friend) vs. her duty to Promised Blood's goals; things like that.
As an added bonus, their designs compliment each other very nicely. Blue and orange is a solid combo. :> (And for one minor thing, I love that Ao has a swimsuit line where she's self-conscious about being a little pudgy, and then Hikaru has a swimsuit line where she says she thinks Ao is really cute. Tsuchinoko Real)
3. San/Miyuri: f4 could not have tailored a ship more closely to my interests if they tried. It's a little embarrassing... listen, you can't have san say "when she loses consciousness, she becomes my doll" and not expect me to think there's something going on These two pushed Neo-Magius from "kinda neat" to being my second-favorite faction. They're perfect as individual characters, and even better together; I adore the way they play off of each other. The way they want the best for the other and try to nudge each other towards success, even if that means enabling unhealthy thought patterns or behaviors and inadvertently strangling the other's personal growth, is fantastic.
And, of course, the lighter parts of their dynamic are just as good!! It's readily obvious how much Miyu loves San, but San loves Miyu too; she's just more subdued about showing people she cares for them. I think sometimes people forget how sad San was when Miyu started avoiding her out of guilt-- while it might not have been the same type of instant affection that Miyu felt towards San (at least until she saw Miyu dancing by herself and blushed over how pretty she was), San had very quickly gotten attached to Miyu as her baby, and was devastated to think that she might've lost her so soon.
They're more alike than they seem at first glance, and I think that's part of what makes their bond so strong-- San sees her old self in Miyu, and wants to watch her improve; Miyu sees herself in who San used to be, and admires that someone so timid can grow up to be so outwardly brave and capable. The whole thing is so sweet to me... ;;
... I might also mention that my headcanons for them help boost this up on my list, aha. I picture San as being very tall and broad-shouldered, and Miyu as a tiny little thing who could blow away in a strong breeze, which makes for a cute contrast. :')
2. Juri/Yuna: Oh man, where do I start? Everything about this ship is just perfect to me. I don't care whether they're friends, enemies, lovers, or what as long as they're together; their dynamic is flawless in every way. I'm stoked that they finally got a dual unit! ;_;
I am SO weak for the way Yuna cares about Juri. The gang wars could've been solved or prevented if Yuna had killed Juri before the situation got too bad, but she didn't want to do that. Yuna was so determined to leave Juri alive that she orchestrated that whole big fight in the first half of CR specifically to bring Juri down without killing her. It's not something that Yuna is proud of, but the fact that she manipulated a bunch of other girls (which unfortunately resulted in some casualties) because she loved this one particular loose cannon too much to kill her... man. Devotion.
Yuna is incredibly patient and understanding with Juri in general, which is extra cute to me because almost nobody else is. She knows Juri isn't a bad person, just struggling with mental illness and shitty circumstances, and no matter how Juri feels about herself, Yuna still loves her and wants her around. Not for her strength or holding Ryuugasaki together, but because Yuna cares for her as a friend. It's so... [clenches fist] AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`)
It's readily apparent how much this acceptance means to Juri, too. She used to rely heavily on Yuna for venting her stress since not only could Yuna go toe-to-toe with her in a fight (and willingly does so), she doesn't resent or demonize Juri for being the way she is. Even when Juri was hellbent on defeating Yuna in CR, she's greatly upset when she thinks that she might've actually killed her (or in the bad end where Juri does kill Yuna). For all of the animosity they held towards each other, they need each other; they don't honestly want the other to die. (Not alone, at least-- the scene where Yuna stops Juri from killing herself has an undercurrent of "how dare you try to leave without me", given that Yuna was also suicidal at the time.)
I am, as you can tell from this list, very weak for ride-or-die loyalty (or dubiously healthy attachment; take your pick), and juriyuna delivers that in spades, with all of the dressings and extras I like. Yuna's refined, serious, thoughtful personality and Juri's rowdy, aggressive, playful personality bounce off of each other in ways that are always enjoyable to see, whether it's something heavier like CR or fluffy like the Please, Yuna-san event. Top quality ship.
1. Bat/Ranka: "hmm, what if..." ← me haplessly coming up with an idea while reading CR for the first time 3 years ago, about to inflict an unbreakable curse upon myself
If I had to pick a number-one favorite ship in the series, it would be this. I am trapped in a hell of my own creation... We don't see much of their dynamic outside of CR or Ao's MSS (though Ranka does talk about the Bat elsewhere), and we've hardly gotten any of their relationship from the Bat's point of view, but that just means I can have a field day reading between the lines and piecing together a story from the scraps we do get. Enrichment!!
Ranka's "I need someone strong to follow or I'll die because I can't survive by myself" vs. the Bat's "I need someone prey on or I'll die because I can't survive by myself" is a great parallel that makes for a unique flavor of codependency. Sort of a "marionette and puppeteer" dynamic, I guess? Whatever you call it, it's 100% my brand; I go nuts for this stuff.
On Ranka's end, she knows that this relationship is unhealthy, but she keeps coming back anyway. Some of it is that she sees herself as too weak (physically and mentally) to make it on her own, so she clings to the Bat because being treated badly is better than being dead or alone. Some of it is probably that she sees herself as an awful person, and feels that she "deserves" to be hurt like this as punishment for how spineless she is (a feeling that compounds itself with every horrible thing the Bat makes her do).
It's a form of self-harm, in a way-- but even so, their relationship isn't always bad. The Bat liked Ranka enough to appoint her as her second-in-command, and for what it's worth, she did protect Ranka from the Futatsugi gang wars. She didn't take any issues with Ranka's abrasive, badmouthed personality, either! In fact, the Bat must've liked that about Ranka if she chose to keep her so close, haha. (And this is headcanon territory, but since Monzenbashi's base was an abandoned arcade, I have to figure that they shared an interest in old video games as well.)
In the end, Ranka is left in a thorny position where she hates what she has to go through, but can't bring herself to leave. After all, they have their good moments. The Bat loves her, probably. If she left, she'd be free from the abuse, but she'd lose the sense of safety and familiarity that the Bat gives her. That sort of struggle is super interesting to me-- I really like how this ship explores how loving and hating someone isn't necessarily a cut-and-dry thing.
On the Bat's end, while she does know that what she's doing is wrong, she adamantly believes that she needs to exploit others or she'll be the one to get exploited herself. She's a selfish coward who chews up the weak for personal gain and spits them out when she's through with them, viewing everyone else as either a threat to be disposed of or a tool to be used... and yet, despite all of this, she's shown to genuinely care for Ranka.
I am constantly thinking about the Ao-Ranka fight in CR where the Bat jumped to Ranka's defense, saying that she's going to kill Ao herself if Ranka is going to let herself get hurt like this. The Bat- the girl who gets a sick thrill out of torturing the helpless, who's too paranoid to trust anyone- loves Ranka enough that it made her angry to watch her get hurt. For as cruel and "save myself and fuck the rest" as she is, she has one person she wants to protect.
Something about the way the Bat wants to keep Ranka safe while also treating her like a pawn; hating the thought of losing her, but afraid of letting her get too close... fuckinf!!! Good Shit!!!!! Mix that in with Ranka's conflicting feelings about the Bat and I have a dumpster fire that will keep me warm for years.
I could be delusional (this ship is largely in my head), but it feels like a pretty realistic portrayal of an abusive relationship to me. There are all kinds of things to dig into here, from how it could get worse to how it could get better, and I just... auuuuggghhfhfh MAN im going to fling myself into the sun i love them so MUCH
(bottom 5 under the cut, both for negativity and because this is already super long)
If anyone's OTP is on this list, I apologize-- please know that none of these are a moral judgement or anything! 99% of my NOTPs are just ships I find annoying for one reason or another. It's nothing personal.
5. Rika/Ren: Truly the plain dry cornflakes of the magireco ship world. It's so Generic Yuri Manga that it manages to be frustrating in its lack of substance. I understand that it's one of the most popular ships (if not the most popular ship) in the fandom, but I'm gonna have to pass. :{
4. Ao/Ranka: Do you ever have a ship that bugs you, but you can't put your finger on why? This is one of those for me. Which is weird, because I am very much a multishipper when it comes to Promised Blood! And I adore the way that Ao and Ranka's relationship is written in canon! They have a really rich dynamic; I love watching them make that awkward, gradual shift from enemies to friends, where they clearly want to be closer but also don't quite know how to feel about each other. As a romantic ship, though... Eh. I've tried reading fics and stuff for them, but it's just not my thing.
3. Tsukuyo/Tsukasa/anyone: There isn't a single character who doesn't feel like a third wheel here. Sure, the twins might love her, but not as much as they love each other; she will always sort of be on the outside looking in. Tsukuyo and Tsukasa are so deeply, unshakeably intertwined that I don't even like shipping them monogamously with other characters (a singular exception being that I have a passive appreciation for Kanagi/Tsukasa), so adding a third girl to the mix is out of the question by default.
Yukika is probably the worst offender in terms of third wheel-ness because of her "Akatsuki-senpai" thing, but Amanes/Mifuyu wins the general awkwardness category by virtue of giving me the unfortunate impression of a mistress to a married couple. I tried reading various OT3 fics with the Amanes to see if I'd warm up to the idea, I did, but... it's regular amanecest or bust for me.
2. Kuroda/Asahi: it's not even about the abuse and general assholery on kuroda's end (heavy drama can be interesting with the right framework) it's that the idea of shipping asahi with a dude gives me hives
1. Himena/Hiko: het ship allergy strikes again, im sorry 😔 Sometimes I feel kinda dumb for this one because I know I'd probably like it if Hiko was a girl, but alas. Not only do I have negative interest in M/F, Hiko is the most boring self-insert-looking nerd guy they possibly could've designed. Ungh. (himena is a fun, fascinating character, i like her a lot, but the depths of my distaste mean that whenever a scene comes up where himena talks to/about hiko, i subconsciously overwrite it with "hiko is a girl" or "hiko is imaginary" to make it more palatable to me orz)
Plus the "unpopular boy gets bullied for dating popular girl" plotline feels super contrived to me-- while my experiences are obviously not universal, I usually find that unpopular guys get boosted up the social ladder if they manage to land a date with a popular girl. The whole "forbidden love" trope needs to be done in a very particular way in M/F ships in order for me to not find it stupid, and this one doesn't hit the mark.
... and this is a silly thing to be annoyed by, but it really does grate on me that whenever you ship Himena with a different character, there's an 85% chance that at least one person will come along like "what about hiko?" or "poor hiko" or "ot3 with hiko!" or whatever. Even if you specify that you've written Hiko out of Himena's head in some way or another (got his own body again, never existed in the first place, etc.), someone will make him the focal point regardless. It's happened to me, and it's happened to a few other people I've seen. :'| Frustrating to see an interesting comment on himesasha or w/e get derailed into "but himehiko!!", as if everything Needs to revolve around this one singular boy.

OKAY. i was at school all day but here we go
(did gaku already here)
hamlet:
Tumblr media
gah. hamlet. one of the most famous blorbos of all time. the thing about him is that he's not only tragic and well written, he's also, like, funny? relatable? the college-educated prince i think would have been someone much harder to connect to in shakespeare's time— definitely not impossible, and he's written as someone you can connect to, but still— but in this day and age the world is FULL of depressed college students, and hamlet's genuinely charming. i recoil at adaptations that frame him as a clear asshole (apart from immortal ros&guil performances that are clearly just having some fun with him) because while you can say 'oh, he killed those people, he mistreated ophelia, he caused the problems' and all that, you can and should sympathize with him, and a performance where you get to enjoy every moment of his being onstage is a good one; he makes a kind of sharp-tongued joke that an audience should be able to laugh at. i'm sad about him, too, but the tragedies that REALLY make me sad tend not to be hamlet-brand; what draws me to him is just like. his energy. and his tragic fall is done very well (of course it is, it's one of the most well-liked plays of all time)
tenn:
Tumblr media
compared to hamlet tenn isn't as much of an all timer but on god. i'm obsessed with him. stream hidden region mv right now.
i always get hyped whenever a character is a collection of archetypes i've never seen before and on god. tenn. nice guy who acts like an asshole who acts nice. his layers. but that's such an oversimplification too... i want to dissect him. he's so stubbornly self sacrificial my boy LET PEOPLE HELP YOU. not me tho i wont help u i'll hit u with a baseball bat for being ableist to riku . but he's really good
ryuu:
Tumblr media
RYUUUUUUU i tend to like the characters who are like... weird and complicated and really unique concepts and ryuu is not that like he DOES have complexity + every idolish7 character also has a cool twist that takes them beyond an archetype (i think every) . but i do love him he's just like. lovable. like how could u look at ryuu and NOT like him. i also really like when he gets mad like when he scares yaopapa or REALLY GOOD SCENE the times he like. very seriously and calmly, at a very mentally low state, gets antagonized by ryou and just. verbally eviscerates him. they make really good foils because he's everything ryou's not: he's down to earth, he deeply cares for people and isn't afraid to show it, and he understands himself. he's got moments of anxiety and self doubt, but he's managed to build himself up from that as trigger's grown closer. ik other fans like him when he's dumb/oblivious, i tend not to laugh as much at those moments (though some are iconic) bc i really like him as someone who like. knows what he's about. he's also kind of the touma of trigger; when i first met trigger, they were antagonistic and tenn and gaku were always bickering, so i saw them as villains, and ryuu was the member that endeared me to himself first (pretty much as soon as he stepped onscreen lol)

I'm imaging Ryou trying to cope after Bakura's gone and oh my god I'm making myself sad. Could you imagine him just trying to do chores, go to school, everyday things while he feels a piece of himself missing
Ryou would sigh softly from where he stood by the sink, water dripping off his slack fingers as he stared silently out the window, the dishes forgotten in the sink. Ryou would glance down at the quickly cooling water, his fingers brushing over the bubbles gently and he'd sigh again before draining the sink. He suddenly didn't feel like doing chores.
Ryou would quickly dry his hands off and step out of the kitchen, his fingers brushing over his chest almost instinctively seeking out the cool gold of the ring he always wore. He'd tense a bit when he didn't feel it, almost panicking before he remembered and a small choked off sound would escape his throat. Ryou would squeeze his eyes shut and collapse onto his couch, pressing his face into his hands as he forced himself to take a long shuddering breath.
He'd try to stifle the sharp burning in his eyes, doing his best to rub the tears away before they came and ignore the trembling of his lower lip as his shoulders curled forward. The sharp bite he'd grown accustomed to from the golden prongs nowhere to be felt and he never imagined he'd miss it so much.
Ryou's hands would tremble as he quickly scrambled to unbutton his shirt, looking down at the scars on his pale chest, the only evidence he had that it had been real and not some crazy dream his mind had cooked up. He'd brush his fingers over the raised tissue where the ring had dug into him and he wouldn't be able to stop the hot tears that fell down his cheeks in time, soft choked off sounds leaving his throat and he'd hug himself tightly.
Ryou would fall back onto the couch, trembling as his body was wracked with sobs, the hot tears falling down his temples and wetting his hair. He knew he shouldn't cry, knew that Bakura would have only mocked him for it. He could almost hear the spirit's sharp laugh over his own cries, the bitter bite to his words as he scolded Ryou.
You're crying? Come on Landlord, you should be celebrating! You're free aren't you? Isn't this what you wanted?!
No. He'd never wanted this.
"I miss you," he'd choke, his voice sounding weak and pitiful even to his own ears and he'd shake his head, covering his ears as he rolled onto his side and curled up.
Maybe tomorrow he'd wake up without this ache in his chest, this hole in his heart. Maybe someday he'd forget that Bakura sounded like, maybe someday he'd be able to actually smile in front of his friends again and not feel any shame when they looked at him with kindness. Maybe one day Ryou wouldn't be missing a piece of his soul, the other half of himself. Maybe one day he'd feel whole again.
AAAAAAAAAA just brokenhearted Ryou having to keep going everyday because if Bakura taught him anything it's that he can't just lay down and die. No matter how much it hurts, no matter how much it eats him away. He has to keep living.

i know violetshipping is your otp but do you have any heartshipping headcanons/thoughts?
The one that I think about the most, which is probably not enough because brain is violetshipping 24/7, is the shred of resentment that canonverse Ryou might nurse toward canonverse Yugi pre-relationship or even early into the relationship. Basically playing with the dichotomy of Yugi missing his other self while Ryou is more in the "good riddance" camp toward his own. They both lost something categorically similar after a technically similar experience, but their experiences weren't even in the same ballpark. And maybe some jealousy at how Yugi seemingly got "the better end" of the deal when it came to spiritual hauntings.
Otherwise, they have a lot of shared interests that would be great ways to deepen their friendship/relationship. While Yugi isn't a horror fanatic in the same way, I don't see him as squeamish. Who else is Ryou going to watch the latest horror flick with? (Definitely not Jounouchi, bless him, I love my boy, but he would be annoying as fuck at a horror movie. I am also a scaredy cat and forcing your friend who is not into that stuff is both a dick move and a recipe for an unfun group hangout.) They'd both be into European board games that would take two hours to set up and explain the rules of where others in their friend group might have checked out after 30 minutes.
There's a lot of depth to be plumbed in their one-on-one friendship/hangout time that will feel categorically different than Yugi's friendship with Jounouchi.
Also love the idea of Yugi realizing he doesn't actually know Ryou that well or Ryou not being a person that shares much of his inner life/feelings despite his friendliness. Like great guy, tries to be helpful, but months down the line, you realize you've revealed all sorts of fears/insecurities with him, but you don't know the first thing about his favorite color or music or if he's ever felt sad.
TLDR; Their fluffiness/softness is endearing, but their potential for angst is also off-the-charts.

Puzzleshipping for the ship?
001 | send me a ship and I will tell you:
when I started shipping it if I did: this one's definitely new for me cuz I never really spared it a thought tbh not that I disliked it or anything before I was just kinda indifferent about it. but that changed during my most recent rewatching of yugioh these past couple of months. Idk why it took me about the 100th time of watching the series to finally open my eyes to it but actually getting to the last season changed EVERYTHING lol
my thoughts: They run through my thoughts from time to time lol. I think we can all agree whether you strictly believe it's platonic or romantic that yugi came to love atem and vice versa. It's canon. atem got so attached to yugi that he would do anything to keep him safe. yugi is quite literally the light that shone through the darkness that had surrounded atem in the beginning then became the light to guide him the way to himself, his memories and finally his resting place. how fucking poetic is that!!
What makes me happy about them: Everything! Every interaction they had throughout the series. though I do love when Yugi has to take over whenever atem was going murder happy on some characters hfkjdsf
What makes me sad about them: the obvious...atem having to leave so he can finally rest in peace 🤧
things done in fanfic that annoys me: Hm I can't really think off the top of my head rn that's specific to them.
things I look for in fanfic: just general good vibes lol I'm not too picky with this pair I'll read just about anything of them tbh. i do enjoy atem being utterly in love with yugi and pinning to which yugi is sorta oblivious to it lol.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: hmm for atem maybe mahad. for yugi he gets along with so many people but if I had to choose probably ryou. two nerds just wanting to play games that got wrapped up into some magical egyptian nonsense 😂
My happily ever after for them: Yugi winning the ceremonial duel as a draw and since it isn't a loss or a win atem gets his body back and gets to live on with his aibou physically this time around 🥺
who is the big spoon/little spoon: I think they both mix it up here and there depending their mood. Yugi seems like a big cuddler and heat seeker so he probably ends up being the big spoon more than often
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: games!! any kind! I feel yugi would take atem around a lot of world so they can experience different things together.

for both, 11, 15, 16?
ooc. @keithhoward
11. how often does your muse cry? do they cry silently, privately, or out in the open?
Tumblr media
Ghosts don't cry. Or I guess Bakura doesn't. How can you when you're a selfish person with no empathy or sympathy for others? You'd think he'd have some for himself but given how easily he discarded pieces of himself and even his previous owner (Thief King Bakura during the Dark RPG) it's safe to say he doesn't have that motivation or drive to cry. For himself or for others.
Tumblr media
Ryou builds his sadness. It builds and builds until something minor happens. And it explodes. Although canonically speaking he has cried at rather significant moments (him being told no to going with the gang to Egypt by Barbosa and crying when reminded about what happened in Egypt with Diva).
But those were directly pointing at his insecurities and trauma. I still believe he holds it together long enough he can cry alone unless forced out in the open like those afro mentioned times.
15. does your muse know how to cook? what is the most complicated dish they’re able to make?
Bakura cannot cook, refuses to cook and doesn't need to cook as he's not the one who's hungry. Which is unfortunate for Ryou as his body is being pushed to the brink.
As for Ryou, he can cook fairly fine though he prefers buying fast food and whatever is in the convenient store. The most complicated dish he can make is probably steak or spaghetti.
16. is your muse argumentative? if not, what is a topic they feel strongly enough about to argue for?
Bakura has no real reason to be passionate on arguing but he will argue for the sake of arguing. Even if he's wrong he likes upsetting people.
Ryou isn't the type to argue unless it's related to his interests. Say you think Monster World is a cheap imitation of DnD or Pathfinder and he will politely tell you so who cares if it is it's still a fun game and you're just a DnD purist. Or debate him on which cryptid is most fuckable (the correct answer is El Chupacabra or Moth Man)

It's absolutely fine that other people have different ships and opinions, but it feels kinda invalidating that some ppl see Ryou/Retasu as a "self-insert" ship, implying that Retasu isn't attractive enough for Ryou's standards just because she's not Ichigo. Idk just a bit of a bummer :/ but I love your work! It's great to see so much fanart for the fandom again <3
Hello anon! Thanks for sharing your opinion, you gave me a lot of input so I must answer properly. I totally agree with you but will answer point by point (sorry this will be a long post):
DIFFERRENT OPINIONS ON SHIP: absolutely, the basic point of me sharing my preferences opinions and artworks is that I share what I love, but I am always open to discussion and, above all, multishipping is so fun, so let’s enjoy different pairings (I have a soft spot for Pietasu too) and different kind of relationship (I have always stated that even though I ship Ryou and Retasu Romantically it makes total sense to see them as good friends, what matters to me is that Retasu, my fav character, is surrounded by people who loves her, in any way) respecting eachother.
RYOUTASU BEING A “SELF INSERT” SHIP: i had no idea people think that (thanks for bringing this to my attention) and yeah, just as you, I find it really invalidating … and also kind of mean for the people who ships them. I am old enough (and in a healthy relationship with my boyfriend for 12 years) NOT TO NEED to being accused to “use” my fav character just to self insert myself and please my ego, having fantasies about an anime guy. That is why I find the “self insert” thing kinda mean to us shippers too. You cannot like a ship but being mean or judge people who like a ship… no thank you. That is not fine at all. (I also find this “self insert” thing a little hypocrite because, why our ship has to be a self insert … and others don’t? Are you telling me people out there do not use Ichigo, a typical shojo protagonist, as self insert? NEVER?! Come on… )
RETASU “NOT BEING ATTRACTIVE ENOUGH FOR RYOU”: yeah so so sad, and kind of a bully thing to imply too. As I stated in the previous point, I do not “use” Retasu as an excuse to self insert myself, she is my fav character, I love her so much cause she has been SO IMPORTANT TO ME: this character helped me dealing with some terrible years in my teen years. This shy and timid girl that does not feel herself loved or enough to deserve love… that later, with the help of her friends and thanks to her own willpower, overcomes her weaknesses, fears and find her true strength becoming an unstoppable warrior and a beautiful young woman,,, so inspiring! So, for her appearance and her being or not being attractive, let’s just say that, for me, she is one of the most beautiful in the team. Speaking of canonic beauty, I find Zakuro the top, just too beautiful to be true, love her so much. Minto too… so elegant and classy, Bu-Ling is just the cutest human being and Ichigo is the typical cool and cute shojo protagonist,,, but as for my personal taste, beauty speaking, Retasu is comes just after Zakuro. Her long wavy green hair (yeah, love that), her big soft and sweet blue eyes (the most beautiful after Minto’s) and her curvy look… dunno why, is just my ideal of beauty. So yeah, I find really funny that people has to use the “self insert”excuse for us shippers to ship her with Ryou, implying her not being beautiful enough, when, for me, she is just perfect and beautiful as she is 💚
That’s it.
So thanks again for sharing your opinion and for your compliment and kind words. I am so happy too the fandom is so active these months, cannot wait for more season of TMMN.
And even though I have a soft spot for Retasu… I promise more artwork based on every Mew, alien and other characters for a personal project of mine, it will be so fun I promise ❤️

So apparently it isn't called "tendershipping" because Yami Bakura would eat Ryou. So sad.

Hi, yes hello. I love your naga au already. Naga Thief King is adorable aaaah. Ryou is too of course :3 Anyways! Please tell me more about this! Is Thief King bad with technology? Did he get to try cooked food, human food, etc at all before Ryou?? Is there anything that'd immediately make either of them sad in this au??? Literally just guah about anything, I wanna hear it :3 💖
Hello, anon!
I'm glad you like my naga AU! 💖
To answer some of your questions, actually naga Thief King isn't a crytpid coming out of the wood, but he is living in human society since he can shift into a human. Ryou found him injured as a snake and decided to take him home to take care of his wounds. (Everyone else: "You took a wild snake home..." Ryou: *shrug* "It was cute")
So TKB eats the same things as a human (though his fridge is mostly eggs and chiken). While Ryou didn't know it wasn't a regular snake at first, Bakura was very offended when Ryou tried to give him frozen mice. And Ryou was very concerned the snake he took prefered chicken nuggets.
Nothing make them sad, but after Bakura revealed himself (couldn't at the beginning because he was injured) they fell for each other pretty quickly. However it took them forever to get together because they were sure the other wasn't interested.

fic rec! 87K post-series puzzleshipping.
Summary: Yuugi thought everything would be okay after Yami left. But then he woke up one morning and found out that no one except for the 3 hikaris remembers the Millennium Items. It's like they never existed. Now Yuugi's been committed, Ryou is being hunted, and Malik is seeing shadows everywhere. Nothing is what it seems when the past literally comes back to get you.
Comments: I am almost done reading all of SailorChibi's YGO stuff which is sad because it's all so, so good. And I love how this one set up a villain I didn't expect and an ending that I wasn't sure I'd like, but still felt so right for this story. I'm also amazed how every time I read the development of puzzleshipping, or tendershipping, or Yami Malik x Malik (which isn't a ship name here so I never know what to call it) by the author the dynamics are the same but it still feels fresh.

Yugi
YUGI MY FAVORITE BOY
My NOTP for them: Yugi/Rebecca. that's a child??
My BROTP for them: Yuu! Jou!! friendship!!!!
My OTP for them: Puzzleshipping owns my soul I have literally broken down crying at work over Yugi and Atem. more than once.
My second choice pairing for them: Yugi and Ryou Bakura, goth gamer boys bonding over their shared trauma and loss. I want them to get married.
My fluffy pairing for them: probably Yugi and Joey, I don't ship them that much but when I do think of them dating its mostly just cute and sweet and kind of an irresponsible mess but never sad
My angsty pairing for them: I mean, it's puzzleshipping. I have literally cried for over an hour before just because I thought about that stupid fucking "you're the only Yugi Mutou in the world" line at 3 am. they're so in love, their hearts are literally intertwined. but they can't touch, they can't kiss, they can't hold each other. they can interact inside their souls, inside the Puzzle, but there's no warmth, they can't actually feel each other there. yet, they know each other in the most intimate way possible. more than anything, they just want to be together, but the harder they try to grab each other, the more they just pass right through. and both of them know, in the back of their minds, that this isn't sustainable, this just can't last forever, and the longer they go, the harder it will be to leave. but they can't help but fall further and further in love with every little thing the other does. Yugi will wake up 5 years after the ceremonial duel and still reach for the Puzzle, only to remember that Atem's voice is nothing but a memory now. Atem spends so much time watching Yugi from the afterlife that Mahaad worries about him. I'm literally about to cry typing this dhehehebebnsnwnwnsbab
My favorite poly ship for them: Yugi/Atem/Joey it's just. jdjdjs my ot3 I swear
My weirdest pairing for them: Yugi and Hanasaki. I think I would ascend to a higher plane on the spot if I ever saw anything of them together

agito 21-30 notes
aki lasted for about as long as i expected. o7 good on you girl for knocking hojo around it made him very funny for a few episodes.
(like most things about aki) i feel like it was a bit rushed pacing-wise. bc i totally missed the point at which her and ryou's relationship got super-deep. like i thought it was cute but i wish it was a little more substantiated. esp since it's used as the basis for continued conflict b/w gills and agito
comparatively it definitely felt like the g3-x / v1 debacle overstayed its welcome. it was fun to see ozawa and hojo interact w/ shouichi though! and also hojo getting the shit beat out of him lol. and it had good development for hikawa and ozawa. ahhh i liked it it was just slow.
ultimately i don't have a problem for the mini-arc itself, it just felt like everything else ground to a halt to make time for focus on it, and considering there's a lot of stuff that happens that i feel doesn't get enough time (ryou's entire plot re: the akatsuki survivors and their powers... again more time w/ aki would have been great. i feel like we never see ryou if he isn't attacking agito or an unknown or otherwise experiencing gills-related debilitating pain. so like when the survivors blame him and eventually kill him it's like... i wish i felt a little bit more about this lol. i think a lot of good was done on this front AFTER he died [though i do know he comes back bc i have all the eps downloaded and it says so in a later episode title] i'm having a recurring feeling that the story keeps putting certain story beats off long enough that i get annoyed and then addressing them immediately after that point. ultimately it's a pacing/balancing issue for me and ik i'm finicky about this sort of thing but w/e)
to this point i really wish ryou's flashback focus episode was before his death rather than after bc if you're separating it from the chronology of the show anyways i prefer foreshadowing rather than irony but eh. however this episode was the closest i've gotten to crying yet for agito (prev was in the early episodes re: mana and her dad) but idk gills particularly really hits the "stuck in between human and monster against your will" theme that i like from kr
also this set of episodes was very devoid of rapidly-aging-baby. sad.
also shouichi getting his memories back only for two episodes was lame as hell. Why Did You Do That. esp bc the episodes were so cool and brought the apostle back into actual relevance. arggghhhhhhhhh. considering that those revelations are pretty much locked to those episodes and the questioning of why shouichi lost his memory again or the what contents of his memories were is pretty much dropped after shouichi reveals it, it sort of feels like him regaining his memories was more of a tool to reveal apostle backstory while resetting shouichi back to square one again. hhhhhhhhhh i liked serious shouichi................................
also i feel like i have lost the plot on what exactly Prettyboy Jesus has control over. unless its literally everything (the unknown the superhumans and regular humanity). him and the apostle are still cool as hell though i still am hoping they get more time as we get later and later into the show. i feel like the man vs. god conflict structure is so common in the stuff i like but it will get me 99.9% of the time it's that simple.
mana getting her powers accelerated makes me Scared but its better than her being a "Shouchi!"-bot for like 10 episodes (can you tell this pissed me off)
also i feel like the unknown are getting less interesting again. rip. the combat itself is still cool though :]
last note: we need to cut down the hikawa slapstick by like at least half. bc it is so hit or miss girl.

For the ship meme: 31 for Trouvailleshipping, 40 for Starcrossedshipping and 78 for Futureshipping?
Ooooo thank you for the ask bud!!!
31. Who insists they’re the best at everything and who lets them believe it?
God they're so low key about it is the sad thing. Iris gets so over her brothers ego trips and so does Aliater but Iris fully knows her capabilities and sometimes that nature I think every single one of those siblings have (which is very much a nurture thing I feel like. They just all latched onto certain personality aspects of each other) can come out and Alisters just like "uh-huh. Okay dear." And sometimes he encourages it all because he also knows she won't take it as far as certain others do.
40. Who’ll be the first to snap if someone makes a bad comment about the other person?
Inwardly, it's Bakura. He will initially stare at you in the "I am plotting your murder and it will be brutal" way. If it continues, he steps in and gets in the other person's face to read them for filth.
If it's unwarranted -- Ryou and the others are allowed to vent, she will not take that away from them -- and it's a genuine insult and being cruel for no reason? Kat has to be held back because she snaps quickly and isn't afraid to both throw down and make the other person feel so tiny.
78. Who has the more embarrassing Spotify Wrapped? + Give a run-down of each character's Spotify Wrapped, in as much or little detail as you want.
God I want to say it's Seto so badly. Like this is the man who got like two different theme songs he probably blades. He still listens to Three Days Grace hard-core you cannot take that from me. A lot of it is the hype music you'd hear him blast as he enters the ring. I guarantee it.
Kats is just. All over the place. A lot of it is Dolly Parton and she's got Deeper than the Holler by Randy Travis as one of her top songs. She also has Lizzo and Miley and then a bunch of songs she found through tiktok. Then there's all the Musical soundtracks. She also has a couple of punk or emo music because it's what she grew up listening to in the car with Maddox.
