hmm good morning! all of these eyes emoji asks have got me doing a lot of npc work (yippee!!!) so one of my favorite early and also one of my silliest headcanons is andie and peter's relationship!

if you're not familiar with comics peter parker then one thing you need to know is that this man literally somehow actually has so much game like he's dated everyone and slept with twice that. so if we're throwing another female spider around his age into the mix well then..... let's just hope dan slott doesn't get his hands on her! but knowing what i know abt comics it's inevitable that they date. anyway andie and may are dear friends and coworkers at FEAST. and my may is an old jewish woman which means she is nudgey, always trying to feed andie, and always trying to set her up with her nephew who is a "nice jewish boy. he's studying to be a scientist" (there's also just lots of regular talking about peter.) peter and andie meet through may/FEAST before learning each others' identities. there's a little bit of an awkward "so is your aunt also trying to set you up with me or am i the only one hearing about this?" and an "uh yeah, uh. yeah. sorry about that!" and that's mostly that.

but it's may and it's comics so eventually for her sake and because they're both lonely they do very briefly have an i can't even call it a relationship they have a situationship that basically consists of them going on a date to appease may and then like pathetically trying to date while mutually being in (what they believe to be) unrequited love with other people. they're very chill and it ends quite normally because their lives are too weird for it not to and also mostly they were just lonely friends pretending it was something more. 👍

Say Something regarding fatphobia in media and the terms ppl use in describing characters who gain weight over time ("letting go" like bro shut the fuck up???) and how like, there's also nuance to the discussion (like, a character who starts out on the heavier side choosing to lose weight shouldn't be demonized either - as PLENTY of people want to lose weight for various reasons, and while you can point to a decent amount of it stemming from our fatphobic society, a lot of it is also just personal desire at the end of the day - but I also understand that if your ONLY fat character loses weight at the end and the other characters don't change either, then that's not good) but idk, I'm a little too tired to properly articulate what's going on in my mind? These are some of the illustrations I made last year for Macguffin Co's system-neutral TTRPG microsetting, Fixer Upper, as part of a collection of micro-settings which you can get on their website or their itch.io! Its about some robots sent to terraform a planet, getting to know the local flora and fauna & making their own decisions about whether to follow through. The first was the cover illustration, the second was one of the spot illustrations, and the initial character designs bc idk i put alot of thought into them (except for defender-bot, which was divinely inspired and the muses astral projected into my body and drew it for me)

makes sure to have dinner with his family everyday, regardless of what type of life he's leading. they're the Most important thing to him in the world

is (surprisingly?) content to let his partner go off and adventure or what have ye, while he stays home with the kid/s, sneaking in some reading or experiments once they're asleep

is All In for his kid/s extracurriculars. of course he'd be happier for more ~magical~ endeavors but even if the kid is learning sword-work or some other physical thing, he'll be there to cheer them on

maybe pushes his kid/s a little too hard in regards to studying/school. Gale works hard to reign in his expectations - he knew how hard it was on himself, why do that to his kids?

Mixed feelings as always:

Percy's dream slapped. I loved Kronos's actor. It felt perfectly eery. No notes.

No percabeth late night convo on the truck. This doesn't surprise me given we sort of did that on the train already, but now there's just another iconic book moment that we'll get bits and pieces of, but never actually get to see in its entirety/original setting.

I did vibe with the glass prism tool for the iris message and it was pretty cool. The Percy + Annabeth argument was great but I'm gonna be honest, Luke being like "you're arguing like an old married couple" was laying it on a tad thick to me idk idk. I know I'll probably be in the minority there lol but I think it would have liked the line better if Percy and Annabeth got more embarrassed to his statement but they both reacted to it like :/ so it just felt heavy handed on the show runners part more than anything

Lotus Hotel vibes? Lackluster. Uninspired. It just didn't capture that outrageous paradise for kids feeling from the book because they turned it into Hermes' hangout so there's a whole bunch more adults than kids. Basically felt like if you took the movie's version and turned down the energy of it by a mile lmao. (Which is also ironic given RR's post about it today).

And of course the kids immediately know what's happening so like. No fun mystery. No Percy figuring it out. Just them being like "omg we need to be careful" and then immediately separating from Grover lmao.

Okay. LMM's Hermes.... it wasn't bad. Thankfully there was no singing. He was fine. It's more or less that turning the Lotus story line into a Hermes' storyline was like an "okay, I guess we're doing this" thing. I mean I guess we finally introduced something for the non-book reader's to pick up on that Luke might not have the best relationship with his dad (and consequently the gods). But like, nothing about this storyline is something that isn't introduced later on in the books. Nor was it better or more interesting than the original lotus storyline in the books.

Again, its the constant replacement of everything fun and silly and absurd in the book and turning it into a very serious moment, is just like, killing the energy. Seriousness is good. Silliness is also good. The book balanced it greatly. The show struggles here.

Glad we got a Pan mention tho!! Finally!

But um 4 pearls, so no dilemma about who to save. A part of me is relieved because the show's created like 3 other sacrifice convo scenarios so its gotten bit reductive, but Sally being a part of the equation is an entirely different dynamic and now that dilemma is theoretically gone. (unless he loses one of the pearls?)

And Percy's missed the deadline?? Right?? So like? I really don't know what we're doing anymore. In the book the deadline was pretty strict lol. Here I guess the deadline was like, a loose suggestion? Percy's walking into the middle of the god's battle field with master bolt in his hand? Idk.

Overall things in the show feel messy and way less cohesive. They seem to know that certain things from the book are important but not necessarily why, or they'll introduce events or plot points strangely late or way too early.

With each of the games, they change the main characters walking animation to fit their vibe and I need to be able to study them beheehe

Desmond

I don't have too much to say about Desmond's other than his is simple and similar to Ezio's and Altaïr's and I like to think that this is due to the bleeding effect(it happened to me too I walk like the assassin's all the time) his is a little more confined and he keeps his arms closer to himself so he's very typical in the way he walks

Altaïr

In his walk he has a sway to his hips and steady hands(probably to keep himself ready for any assassination), but goddamn the SWAY I never noticed it.

His shoulders also sway with his walk and I love how fluid he is in general, this ties back to his robes for me and how flowy they are to show the grace of an assassin in high profile but when low profile they stay to his sides and he's all in the shadows and I REALLY love that about him.

Ezio

This gif is all I could find so i can't really remember if Ezio's walk is different in Ac2 from Altaïr's because ubisoft is the king of recycling things but whatever. He still has the outward stance but I do notice his head is pointed low to try and keep himself hidden(shadows shit be like) but ofc hes holding the apple here so it's hard to tell if he's trying to swing his arm a lot lol, anyway body language is important to Ezio so hes very good at looking broody as well as fluid in his movements

Connor

The way Connor walks with his hands stretched out and then clenching his fists every moment because he's always ready for a fight goddamn this MF could take me in an alleyway and I'd be happy. I'd like to note with this gif, it doesn't show his slow slow walk and I remember it pretty well, he has a slight cautious aura in his walk, he's really careful in his foot placement(I think) and he's super awesome and I love him a lot. Since we have him running I'd like to talk about that too. He has such an efficient sprint it's so mesmerizing, he keeps his head low and just fuckin vrooms across the colonies<3

Aveline

You can barely see her here bc the damn community doesn't care for Aveline much but I like her even tho I haven't played Liberation, I enjoy the way she walks in a proper manner and she's got that strut the runway strut is everything. I also like how she has a wider swing in her arms, more carefree and comfortable.

Edward

This is such a great quality gif thanks so much Ac fandom!!

Anyway, I really love the difference in Edwards walk compared to the rest of the assassins because he's a pirate, he hasn't had the teaching of grace and secrecy. Therefore his walk is staggering in his footwork but still proper bc he's a sword fighter and very good at it. In a longer gif you'd be able to tell but his footing is a little messy, showing that drunken sailor pirate personality shows in his walk. He has a close arm swing due to him always needing to be close to his weapons, ready for a fight(like his grandson<3)

Haytham

I can barely see how he's walking but I'm pretty sure he had his hand on his sword hilt which says so much abt his character, again always being ready for a fight. He has a very straight posture due to his pompous nature, quick in his form to be efficient because why walk if you don't look proper and efficient?

Shay

Ok he's a Templar and so is Haytham but fuck you I love them.

His walk is so GOOD his walk has a heavy step and he's very prominent, got that straight posture again, not much to say about his arm sway other than the added shoulder sway, love that for him bc he's just so intimidating.

(For reasons I'm not doing Arno, Evie, Jacob, Kassandra, and Eivor since I haven't played their games)

Bayek

Bayek's walk is very different from every other assassin and that makes me love him so much more. He feels very carefree and relaxed but when in combat good lord does he go off!! He puts more sway in his arms than his hips and that's probably why he has a combat centered walk, like Edward.

Sandrone

You’re not allowed in her workshop

No ifs ands or buts

Her robots are to delicate to risk getting knocked over by a cat

If you’re really insistent on watching her then she might allow you to watch from the door

But thats it

Outside of the workshop though, she wouldnt mind letting you in her lap while she is carried around by her robot. 

Just dont jump off without letting her know before hand

You might get crushed by the robot

If you manage to make her like you and look sad enough, she might make a robotic toy for you.

Maybe a robot cat friend or a mouse for you to chase.

It keeps you occupied and lets Sandrone make another robot, win-win!

Signora

She does seem a bit cold at first

Feels like the type to not like animals bc of how messy they are, etc.

But she will warm up to you quicker than say Pierro or Sandrone.

Another source of heat in this frigid country.

She sends one of those fire moths to go with you and it is very much appreciated.

Pantalone

As mentioned in the original post, i think Pantalone likes cats

He’d spoil you so bad lmao

Doesnt matter if you’re mean or nice or apathetic

He has a corner in his office dedicated to you.

Its got a box of toys, the softest bed money can buy, the most elaborate cat tree imaginable like wtf man, one of them self cleaning litter boxes, a water fountain, and an automatic feeder.

The feeder is on a schedule but that doesnt really matter because Pantalone will give you treats anyways.

He even gives you your own allowance from the fatui treasury.

He gives you one of those cat collars with the little bell.

Arlecchino 

You could hint to her that you want to go to the orphanage.

Everytime someone mentions it, give a little chirp and stare at her intently.

She’ll probably get the idea and set aside a week or so for you go to the orphanage to play with the kids.

They’re all very gentle with you and like to call you a mini snow leopard.

Arlecchino thinks its kinda cute but she wont say it.

Tartaglia

I like to think that he isnt present when the other harbingers found cat!reader

Imagine he arrives heavily wounded and is confined to bed rest 

And like, when the doctor gives the go ahead for guests, cat!reader jumps onto the bed and starts purring up a storm

Cats purr to comfort others as well as to show happiness

Childe’s barely conscious but the fluffy thing is comfy and he cant move so might as well let it stay.

When he does wake up he’s more than a little surprised to find a cat in his bed

You have a collar so he assumes you already belong to someone, pets you and then lets you out of the room while he goes over to see what the other harbingers are doing.

helloo since we're on the topic: top historical fiction (or adjacent) ? can be any time period I just really love your taste in shows/games/etc and am always on the lookout for history inspired media !

ancient times: i havent really watched a lot of movies/series set in ancient times so far :(

rome HBO (2005-2007) (tv series) - OF COURSE. i personally think its one of the best series ever made. they combine political, miliatry history with the lives of every day people in an incredible way. they never let you once engage with the series through modern lenses. according to my teacher (a historian, archeologist & self described 'romaphile') its incredibly historically accurate, mostly the clothing, set designs, characterization, military practices, etc. except for the things they straight up made up, of course.

i really enjoyed gladiator (2000), i think its a masterpiece.

prince of egypt (1998) i guess?

all the asterix movies of course, all the animated ones and most of the live actions. but i wouldnt really call it historical fiction

ok i havent actually finished watching it for now but sebastiane (1976) - an erotic, x rated, gay interpretation of the martyrdom of st sebastian. its in latin also.

wait i cant believe i forgor about assassin's creed odyssey - so far the only one ive played. its so fun and incredibly immersive visually. especially pour moi who cries into the pillow about how ill never experience the ancient world. also you can b a faggot which is always fun. i have things to say about their portrayal of same-sex sexuality and slavery in classical greece but i get why they did that considering its supposed to like. appeal to a lot of people, and a more "historically accurate" portrayal (for example of pederasty or how common slavery was etc.) would b v difficult for a lot of their target audience. alas.

medieval and early modern era:

the name of the rose (1986) - my medieval history teacher literally showed us bits of this movie to teach us about monasteries and monks fhdosiasdjasd.

the borgias (2011-2013) - incredibly messy, lots of political intrigue, and so so fun to watch. about the history of the borgia family. filled to the brim with drama.

the three musketeers (1993) - my favorite adaptation, also coincidentally the one i grew up on. casting tim curry as richelieu was genius. he slays so hard.

i also like bbc's the musketeers (2014-2016) - a neat little series. very fun and entertaining to watch.

outlaw king (2018) - like i dont think most ppl heard of this movie. its about robert the bruce's fight to reclaim the throne of scotland. starring chris pine

vikings (2013-2020) - its fun. i havent watched the entire series tho. dont expect anything resembling historical accuracy

the northman (2022) - you will see something resembling historical accuracy

mihai viteazul (michael the brave) (1971) - a fun movie. very much romanian propaganda tho.

1670 (2023-) - such a fun series!!! incredible cast, shows respect to the actual history and the lives of historical people. really cute and funny.

caravaggio (1986) - a biopic about caravaggio.

wait i also forgor about pentiment - an intriguing, immersive, and incredibly beautiful video game! it has a lot of 'the name of the rose' vibes, with it being a medieval murder mystery taking place in a monastery. its incredibly touching and made me cry, and in the last few years i very rarely cry. also im 99% sure its an indie game? go support the creators!

vaguely-medieval/early modern fantasy:

mirror mirror (2012) - a retelling of snow white. a very fun movie imo, with incredible costume design. julia roberts plays the evil queen and she SLAYS. armie hammer is unfortunately in that movie.

stardust (2007) - one of my fave movies growing up. more modern-inspired but still.

the green knight (2021) - controversial i know but i actually loved this movie! i liked it both as a standalone movie but moreso as a 21st century adaptation to sir gawain and the green knight.

galavant (2015-2016) - !!!!!!! one of the most series ever! they manage to tackle such difficult concepts and conversations with a hilarious wit. so fun to watch. i listen to a lot of the songs still, and rewatch every once in a while.

disenchantment (2018-2023) - very fun to watch, especially the first season.

i also really liked the novel uprooted by naomi novik. its a polish-inspired fantasy.

modern era:

killers of the flower moon (2023) - of course. a masterpiece

aferim! (2015) - a romanian movie set in 19th century wallachia, about two officers, a father and son, who were sent by a nobleman to retrieve an escaped enslaved romani man. a lot of the people in the comments were calling the movie humorous and funny, maybe im missing smth (as im watching with subtitles n dont understand the original language) but it was a very difficult watch for me??

the handmaiden (2016) - need i say more

black sails (2014-2017) - a prequel to the famous novel 'treasure island'. not an easy series to watch. incredibly good.

the favourite (2018) - need i say more pt 2

the rabbi's cat (le chat du rabbin) (2011) - animated movie set in early 20th century algeria. a rabbi's cat learns to talk overnight.

the nice guys (2016) - a fun murder mystery set in the 1970s

o brother, where art thou (2000) - a retelling of the odyssey set in the southern us in the 1930s

victor/victoria (1982) - set in early 20th century paris. julie andrews pretends to be a man and takes on a job as a drag queen. extremely fun, extremely gay movie.

lady chatterley's lover (2022) - very much porn for moms but it was a nice watch imo

amulet (2020) - set in like. idk. sometime in the 20th century. this is a horror movie, deals a lot with misogyny, sa, and so on. i really like it, personally. a lot of people, mostly weird men, dont tho.

the great (2020-2023) - i have mixed feelings about this show. on the one hand, its really fun to watch. on the other hand, its basically ofmd for girls who have public mental breakdowns whenever someone claims corsets were oppressive. and theyre so weird about russians, jesus christ.

disses:

domina (2021-) - i just couldnt get into it, esp since i tried right after finishing rome hbo. it was kind of silly, and not in a good way. takes itself wayyyy to seriously.

i didnt like spartacus (2010-2013) - the dialogue was almost grotesque and the editing, especially the transitions, straight up killed me

damsel (2024) - holy fuck what a trainwreck of a movie. absolute waste of angela basset and robin wright. the only good thing were the costumes.

lancelot du lac (1974) - i just didnt like it at all. couldnt get into it. i guess it was way too french and artsy fartsy for me. a movie that was trying to say both too little and too much at the same time.

i didnt rly like bram stoker's dracula (1992) - i mean. it was a fine movie. it was definitely not the godfather. the movie itself was meh. the visuals tho? absolutely stunning

Can be a bit of a brat sometimes? Especially if you seem to break his routine, that makes him pretty upset

Otherwise he’s just a super sweet baby

He’s always seen with his childhood blankie, you can’t pull them apart

Don’t even attempt to break them apart, he’ll just throw a fit and start crying

He also LOVES apple slices and apples in general, it’s his same food

The best kinda baby for a playdate!! He’ll play house with ya, princess dressup, he’ll read books with you, he’s just a playful lil guy

Pretty much anyone can be his cg, but they’re usually either Barnaby, Julie, Howdy, or Poppy

He called Barnaby “pubby” once and it drove the dog to tears, he can never recover

I also hc him to be a cat regressor? He’s got those eyes and likes to bat things off of counters and stays up to ungodly hours

Loves watching musical recordings, her favorite is Cats

The smartest baby, but also the grumpiest

Only regresses to deal with stress and anxiety, rarely regresses out of happiness

0-2 yrs, he’s so darn tiny!!

He loves being held, it’s usually his first request when he goes small

He also LIVES for bedtime stories, he always asks for one before bed

Sometimes he’ll sit on your lap and just start spouting facts about insects and butterflies, all with a slight lisp and everything

Knows a bunch of big boy words, but has trouble pronouncing it so he needs your help

Eddie it’s obv his main cg, but he’s also got Julie, Howdy, and Poppy

And Barnaby if he’s tiny enough

Doesn’t have many plushies but he does have a stuffed beetle named Skipper, he’s his best friend

Arguably the most talkative out of all the regressors, he’s always chatting

Eddie 💌

The most prominent flip of the neighborhood

He can go from baby to dad in an instant, he’s that quick to go big again

Has a pretty wide range of age when it comes to regressing, but usually stays in 1-4 yrs

Completely mute when he’s small, he’s either suckin on his paci or his thumb the entire time

Follows his cg like a baby duckling while little, sometimes holding their hand

It’s actually pretty easy to tell when he needs to go small; not talking as much, constantly following someone, probably fumbling with his hands, a lot more shy too

Frank takes care of him ofc, he’s the best dad

Frank would fuss over him a LOT, constantly checking for bruises and stuff, making sure he’s not sick

And he’s just sitting there like 👶

It’s really easy to forget tho; he’ll say just about nothing the whole day, then you tuck him into bed and when you’re leaving you just hear him start crying and being all “hellpppp, don’t goooooo”

He likes to put a plushy in front of the door, the closet, and underneath his bed so no monsters get him

I like to think that Frank is surprisingly strong for how lanky he is so he can carry is baby husband with little to no struggle

Primarily a caregiver!!

Honestly would be such a good dad figure, he’s got four arms to carry four kids!

Would give silly lil nicknames for all the kiddos on the block; buddy, lil man, lil miss, sweetie, pumpkin, etc.

May not be the brightest caregiver but boy is he the sweetest

Would probably accidentally leave one of the kiddos on his back bc he’s got his hands full with the others, so they’re just hanging out behind him

The absolute best at pretend, he’s got stories and character roles all up his sleeves

Frank like to pretend that Howdy is turning into a butterfly, so he pretends he stays in a lil blanket cocoon and then emerges with these plastic butterfly wings on his back

It sends Frank into a frenzy every single time

If someone accidentally goes small at his Bugdega, he’ll drop everything and take them into the nearest bathroom so they can calm down and go small properly

He’ll also sneak a free treat in their pocket if they’re good, only if you’re good

Punishments are hard to give bc he’s pretty easily swayed, so he’ll probably just give you a slap on the wrist and scold you before sending you on your way

He loves his kids and he wants the best for them, he can’t stand to see them upset

Poppy 🐔

This one is the hardest to figure out bc there isn’t much to know about her, but I’ll do my best

TOP TIER MOM OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Also a default caregiver like Howdy, they are the ultimate parent duo

Always fussing over her kiddos, she’s got bandaids and Pepto Bismol in every corner of her house

She can be a bit stern when it comes to punishment, but she isn’t downright strict or mean

All she wants is for you to be careful

Her drawers are STACKED with toys, blankets, pacis, outfits, nappys, etc.

She always prepared when something is needed

She is the absolute best baker too; you’ll come to her house and it smells like freshly baked cookies

You can come into her kitchen to find a light snack, she’ll notice and make a whole meal

She’s also a lovely singer, so she’s perfect for lullabies

I like to imagine that if the kids are staying over at her house, they like to cuddle with her bc she’s a big ol bird
