part 10: les quizerables
AN: Well, I’m back!  And so is our favorite pub quiz gang (I swear we’re almost out of the pub).  As always read at your own risk, I have not been proofing this one.
James Potter’s forearms were incredibly distracting.  Well, at least they were to Lily, at any rate.  It was all fine and manageable at the beginning of the quiz, when the sleeves of James button down shirt were where they were supposed to be.  But then, at some point the sleeves were rolled up in that female gaze sort of way, and boom, Lily’s head was very much out of the pub quiz game.  And then there was the mash incident.  Didn’t fit guys know you couldn’t just casually wipe a bit of mash from a girl’s mouth?  Lily knew she was going to get a lot of mileage out of that moment; perhaps his thumb turning into his lips…
“...Lily?”

Hi Charms! Pregnancy reveal in BB&BB <3
Charms Celebrates 300 Followers!
Read the exactly 300 word addition for Brown Boots and Breakfast Bagels below the cut:
The last time she’d done this she’d had Alice hovering to offer support while she peed. This time the only comfort Lily had was the sound of James in the other room rummaging through moving boxes, unpacking her things to become part of their house. She thought the wait last time was agony but this time was definitely worse. The stakes were arguably higher this time a mere three months out from their wedding.  She’d felt perfectly fine, a little sore and tired but they had been lugging boxes about for the better part of the weekend, it was to be expected, and she wasn’t that late. There’d been a lot of stress lately. It was probably just that, but something was nagging at her to check before they uncorked that bottle of champagne they’d been saving for when she was officially all moved in. With bated breath she checked the stick and saw a bright pink plus sign staring back at her. It was like the air had left her lungs, happy tears welled and started falling down her face. Tears still streaming, she exited the bathroom and half sprinted back to the living room. James was busy working his way through a box of assorted picture frames.  “Love? Do you want these ones hung on the wall or just put on the mantle I…” He trailed off as he looked up and saw her standing there. “Lily? What’s wrong?”  “Nothing!” Lily cried happily.  She waltzed straight up to him and shoved the stick in front of his face. He blinked at it twice then looked back at her and down at her flat stomach, before taking the test from her outstretched hands with a grin etched on his face.  “Well shit,” he laughed. “Guess I’m drinking for two.”

Chapter 14 Lily || Start at the beginning Will Lily be able to move on? Or will she finally make a move? That's the question.
Or Sirius has read one too many fairy tales
"Alright, here’s the thing Evans, I'm going to give it to you but on a few conditions. Three to be exact."
"Conditions? Are you—are you blackmailing me?"
"No, I’m trading you. You want something from me, I want something from you. No freeloading. You want it, you’ll have to work for it, put some effort in."
Lily looked at her computer screen again. She fiddled with the mouse until hazel eyes and messy hair were all that could be seen. Then she nodded. James was certainly worth the effort, but she shook her head at what his mad friend would have up his sleeve. "Alright, what are your conditions then?"
She could hear Sirius pour something into a glass before he spoke again. “Better grab a pen, Evans, I will only say this once.”
thanks for all your love for this story! a special shout out to @abihastastybeans

This Hope is Treacherous
@jilymicrofics | July Prompt #17 Subtle | 552 words
(A college au / friends but kinda more fic)
(Read on A03, will be making this a multi-chapter work)
All the books in the Libary can’t help Lily Evans. She can’t even ask her friends and she definitely can’t ask his friends.
She tries to imagine telling her friends.  She can see herself looking squarely at Marlene and Dorcas. Taking a deep breath. Opening her mouth and going to speak. And then, nothing.
Lily has no idea what she would even say. She could pretend to randomly bring up the increased eye contact and “accidental” touches, but even she laughs at the prospect. She can hear Marlene’s cackle and Dorcas’s comment on “Victorian courting.”
If Lily told her friends about James, they’d ask her for details. They’d expect a declaration of love, complete with a boombox and flowers.
She supposes confessing your feelings for the same guy you spent hours complaining about will always be embarrassing. Her righteous rants about James hogging the study rooms would suddenly seem more obsessive than furious. But, she stands by her ten-minute speeches and carefully worded texts aimed to destroy. James Potter was arrogant and pretentious.
Okay. James Potter is still arrogant and pretentious. But now Lily knows he’s also loyal, kind, smart, and funny.
(She also knows what he looks like shirtless after practice, but likes to think that didn’t have any effect.)
Regardless, she’s used to telling Marlene and Dorcas everything. But she can’t seem to stomach acknowledging her unspoken, unacted thing with James.
A sharp noise pierces her thoughts, and Lily realizes she’s snapped her pen while fidgeting.
She’ll never be able to run through the door and tell Marlene and Dorcas about their first date or first kiss or first time. Because that’s all it is, a thing. It’s too small, too subtle to have a name. It’s timid smiles and touches and literally nothing else.
It’s going over last night again and again to find an answer and becoming more undone with uncertainty each time.
She can still feel the concrete on her back and James’s pinky touching her palm. They had just finished studying together (a recent addition to her schedule). At first, they just sat, cross-legged. Stories seemed to pour out of them, clearly queued up from hours of pouring over books and notes.
“I used to point that one out all the time,” James whispered. A moment passed until he added, “It’s Siruis’s star,” as he looked at the sidewalk.
Most of the time, James oozed confidence. But sometimes, his smirk would falter and his eyes would dart between her and the ground.
Lily just nodded and hummed like she normally did, scared to spook James out of talking to her.
“I just wanted him to know that his last name wasn’t the only thing that defined him. You know? Like the star was Sirius before the first Black was ever born and will still be Sirius after the last Black dies.” James sighed loudly, shifting to lie down.
And fuck, wasn’t that the most James Potter statement ever? So, yes, she lost some restraint last night because there was no way anyone could hear James speak so softly and painfully about someone he loved and not reach out to hold his hand.
But now it’s today, and she has to grapple with the clear knowledge that holding James Potter’s hand once will never, ever be enough.

No. 2 - Swing | Jily Micro March
Tumblr media
Thank you for the prompt @jilymicrofics.
What happened in Athens will be detailed in #31 (Glance) : )
Read on AO3
No. 2 - Swing
“Hey Prongs, he looks just like you”
They were sprawled on a picnic blanket enjoying the morning rays of sunshine warming them while they ate pastries and berries for brunch.
James turned his head to glance in the direction Sirius was nodding.
A toddler with messy hair was shrieking with joy as a slim brunette woman pushed him, occasionally reaching out to tickle his feet.
“Yeah he does” James admitted, his eyes glued to the toddler as he swung back and forth.
“It is rather uncanny” Remus agreed quietly, moving to rest his head on Sirius as he joined the two brothers in their staring “James are you sure you…
“I've never slept with her” James said confidently, nodding at the woman, before shrugging and returning to the croissants they'd brought with them “I may get around, but I do remember each person you know” he said as Sirius opened his mouth.
Sirius promptly shut it, slanting an apologetic grin his way.
The toddler was forgotten as conversation drifted to Remus’ students.
Forgotten until they came back to the park a week later.
“So I said to Reg that if he wanted to- Sirius paused, noting his audience was not as enraptured with his story as he’d prefer.
“Prongs?” Remus prodded questioningly.
But James was frozen. He felt his heart was trying to escape his chest as it beat wildly, thrumming against his ribcage.
Remus turned to follow his gaze. The toddler from the previous week was kicking away in the swing again as two women stood chatting as they pushed him.
“Prongs I know it's uncanny, but you already said… Sirius drifted off uncertainly looking at James.
James was pale, staring wide eyed at the three people by the swings.
“James” Sirius repeated.
“The redhead” James managed to get out.
“What?” Sirius said glancing between the redhead and James “Are you serious?”
“James are you saying you slept with her” Remus said sitting up fully as he looked between James and the toddler.
“Yeah, I am” James said in disbelief “do you think he’s…
“Wouldn't she have told you something like that?” Remus said doubtfully.
Sirius took another glance towards the swing, before swinging back to exclaim “oh my god that's Athens girl” he said his mouth dripping open.
“That’s Athens girl?” Remus confirmed glancing once more at James.
James could do nothing more than nod. His entire body felt paralysed in shock, while simultaneously energised at the thought that he could possibly, maybe, have a …kid.
Three years ago James had been out dancing with the boys at an underground club in Athens.
He’d met a beautiful, effervescent red headed woman named Lily.
It had been the best shag of James’ life to date.
But neither had lived there and they'd known it was one night of bliss. He's had one magical hour with her and then she was gone. Vanished.
He felt his feet move and realised they were carrying him closer to her.
He heard Remus yank Sirius back down to the picnic blanket.
He saw the exact moment she clocked him: her face slackened in surprise and her conservation with her friend came to an abrupt halt.
She was still as breathtaking as she’d been three years ago.
James meant to say hello but the first words out of  his mouth were “is he mine?” Because really, that’s what mattered at this precise moment.
When he heard her simple, confident yes he felt like the earth had stopped spinning on its axis.

roomate
I did a brief one-shot of something that happened here at home (I share an apartment with my friend from college, and she's dating) on Monday, and that's exactly what happened I just wanted to share the gossip lol my friend and i really laughed while her girlfriend couldn't look me in the eye for a whole day by the way, this happens in the world of Wildflower, because yes, and because there they are muggles and it fits more with the story
----------------------------
It was a normal Monday, they were home early and Sirius was lying on the couch listening to his favorite song, liking random pics on instagram and laughing at boring memes.
James had been in his room with Lily for a few hours now, they were supposed to get out of there so they could decide what to have for dinner, but for now, Sirius was just managing to let the two of them have their time together, because with all the end-of-semester exams, they had little time to do anything and just enjoy each other's company.
When Remus' message in their chat group arrived on Sirius' cell phone, telling him gossip about Marlene's ex-boyfriend, Sirius couldn't help but jump off the couch, super excited, already chuckling at what he'd read — how could that boy be so rude like that? — and walk to James' room without even thinking about anything else.
He'd heard the curtain creak, so maybe they were getting up and he wouldn't interrupt anything, or sometimes he'd just interrupt a movie the two of them were watching. Sirius didn't even consider the idea, all he needed to do was read the message to James because he needed to agree with him, that guy was crazy!
When he opened the door, light from the living room invaded James' room, illuminating the couple who weren't watching a movie and weren't even close to getting out of bed so they could decide on dinner.
Lily just screamed and hid under the purple blanket while James pulled the blanket up and laughed.
''Ja- Shit, sorry guys!'' Sirius stopped, looking at the wall and chuckling along with his friend, not the least bit affected by what he'd seen, but not wanting to embarrass Lily even more. ''Sorry guys, sorry, I just needed to come tell you this gossip... sorry,'' He couldn't stop laughing, let alone James, who even started coughing along with his laughter.
Lily, however, remained under the covers, mortified with embarrassment.

Lily and James were pregnant with Harry when they were 19/20 so if your muggle/college AU doesn't have Lily freaking the fuck out between lectures, James asking his dad for a bigger allowance because now he has to buy more than redbulls, microwavable meals and alcohol, OR Sirius and Remus watching harry run around the quad while Lily takes a final and James is at wrestling/rugby/any sport practice, I don't want it. Bonus points if Alice "out of college and married, thus making her a 'responsible adult' in Lily's eyes despite being 23 and tired" Longbottom babysits Harry and forces him and Neville to be friends. Bonus Bonus points if Harry is born during Marlene and Dorcas's semester abroad, and when they come back and watch harry, everyone thinks they had a baby.

For @jilymicrofics March prompt 'Zealous':
Ask anyone else and they would say that James Potter and Lily Evans fell in love instantly.
Ask James and Lily and they would tell the story differently.
It was a glimpse of her that made him pay attention at first. A fleeting look that made his brain skip a thought.
It was a little faster for Lily. An introduction from a friend, watching him joke with his mates, the gleam in his eye, the infectious energy. It was all-consuming. But Lily didn't know what it meant at the time.
James would have been described as someone who wasn't interested in the opposite sex. He was too enthralled with the rush of football games and the adrenaline from boyish pranks to take notice of beautiful girls and how they could make you feel. He was oblivious to the gaggle of girls fawning over him in secondary school, always polite, a natural flirt but one to never go chasing someone.
Lily was different. She loved to crush on boys, loved the thrill she got when she grabbed their attention (even if for just a few seconds), she revelled in the small touches and the banter - chased it almost. Some explained Lily as zealous in the pursuit of love.
It was her second week at university. Her childhood best friend had enticed her to start their coursework while catching the last rays of the hot sun. Mary introduced Lily to James that day, and Lily was curiously intrigued, her eyes finding it hard to look away, her heart rate climbing rapidly.
James caught a glimpse of her in class the week before they were introduced. She was breath-taking, but James was easily distracted by his best mate and moved on.
The moment it changed for James was so unexpected he could only tell the story as the only time he tripped over his own heart. Ultimately, it was the sudden clench of surprise he felt when, a week later, he witnessed the beautiful girl he had just been introduced to being pressed up against his living room wall by a man who wasn't himself.

"You must have missed me a lot,” he comments in the same arrogant tone she’s come to know; if she closes her eyes, it would only be too easy to pretend they are hidden away in the loos at the pub, to let his words boil her blood in the same way it did back then when she only cared about doing what she wanted, regardless of the risk.
But she is no longer pretending to be that girl, no longer wearing the mask of the playful, overly confident Red who wanted Hot Bar Guy to cater to her wants and needs, who spoke with little thought or care for the man at her mercy.
Now she is simply Lily, and he James, and she cannot imagine a scenario where she did not fall in love with him.

James Potter as a young dad.
Random person: Don't you miss being young? Like partying and snogging around and getting drunk. I mean it must be difficult to do it now that you have a kid.
James: What do you mean? I party to Disney songs. I snog my wife. And I get drunk on juice and chocolate milk.
Random person: You know what I mean, Potter.
James: *looking at Lily playing with Harry, his six year old kid and smiling* Lily and Harry are my world now. I would not change a thing.

Unannounced random Wednesday 3.1k Spitting Image chapter after a month of update hiatus? You're welcome.... bye now! Read Chapter 7 of Spitting Image here.
James Potter always knew he wanted to build a family, he just hadn’t found the right person to build it with - yet. Freezing his sperm at Gringotts Sperm Bank was a no-brainer really. He’d have children when he found the right person, and now he had an insurance policy. Then Lily Evans walked into his place of work with her son - the spitting image of him.

day 8 Moody March Jily micro has turned into a @jilymicro-oops (ca 1050 words) || Uneasy
Read of Rats and Men on ao3 or under the cut.
Of Rats and Men
Lily did not need a man in her life, never mind what her sister might say and think about the matter.  She had her own place, a nice job, three good friends that made her feel appreciated, respected and loved. So really, what could a man possibly add to all that? For her physical needs she was also well set, the satisfyer pro 2 had never let her down. In fact, ever since she’d gifted it to herself her highs had reached peaks no boyfriend had ever managed.  So, no man needed.  Lily was not afraid to be alone, she also didn’t fear the dark. She didn’t like spiders, but they too provided no need for rescue, nor did a leaking tap. Over the years she’d learned a thing or two about the odd job around the house.
She’d just finished rewatching Pride and Prejudice, which always put her in a good satisfied mood. She wasn't a hater of romance, she just didn't believe in it much, outside of fiction.  Indulging herself, she found the part where Mr Darcy hands Elisabeth into the carriage, and watched it, again and again and again. She relished the tension that seemed to crackle from the screen. All fictional, of course, in real life a touch could never be so loaded.
With a sigh, she got up from the couch, the cold of the night air brushing her bare legs. Then she froze.  A dark something was in her room.  It didn’t move so she didn’t either, she held her breath. She clapped her hand in front of her mouth and her other over her heart that beated as if she was racing instead of standing stock still.
A rat. A rat in her house. She could make out its body, the long tail must be curled around it. Just thinking about its tail made her gag. It wasn’t rational. She might be small, but there was not a rat big enough in the world to really hurt her. That wasn’t the point. It was a bloody rat. With teeth and diseases and wriggly feet and a naked scaly tail and it was in her room.  With a scream she turned, fled through the door and rushed outside. She didn’t feel the cold, all she could think of was that she needed someone to help her. This late the streets were empty, some rooms in the street still had lights on, but before she could decide which doorbell to ring, a man appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, into the beam of the streetlight.
He was tall, a mop of untamed black curls adding to his towering presence. He wore glasses that gave him a trustworthy look, and the way he moved was all confidence. Lily was so relieved to see someone oozing strength and confidence that she nearly jumped him, without a second thought she grabbed him by his arm.  “You’ve got to help me, there’s a rat in my house. Please, can you get rid of it for me?” she said with hardly a pause between her words, and then she was pulling him along. At first he didn’t move, he just opened and closed his mouth.
She never gave him a chance to say anything before she tugged at his arm again and said, “Please, help me. It’s in my living room and I can’t go to bed because I’m too scared to walk past it. I'll get you a broom or something, but can you please, please just come and chase it away?”
Rigidly the man started to move alongside her and once inside she pushed him into her living room, grabbed a broom from the cupboard and handed it to him. She pointed to where the rat still sat and whispered, “There, it’s right there. It hasn’t moved. Please can you kill it?” To his credit the man nodded in understanding and carefully took the broom out of her hands. He shrugged off his coat and loosened his tie as he stepped into her living room. Lily stared at his back, forgetting about the rat for a moment because he looked rather good in his perfectly fitted shirt. She wondered if he had just come from some kind of fancy dinner, when he started to shake.
She frowned. Was he afraid? The man stepped closer to the rat, poked with the stick end of the broom and proceeded to lift something from the floor.  “I think you’re safe to come in now,” he said, and she could hear the laughter in his voice. Warily, she stepped closer and peered over his broad shoulder, when he turned around she gasped.  At the broom’s end one of her black espadrilles was dangling in the air.  Right now would she'd give anything to be able to scroll back in time, to before she had grabbed a stranger from the street dressed in nothing more than an oversized t-shirt to save her from her footwear. Her sister was right, she was a freak.
Suddenly feeling very uneasy, she tugged at the edge of her shirt, which did exactly nothing, except draw attention to her state of undress. “I'm so, so sorry. You must think I’m a complete lunatic for…well… thinking there was a rat.”   “It's alright,” he said and stepped a little closer. With a solemn face he held out her shoe. “Here, best to face your fears head-on.”  Lily stared at him and when she saw his lips twitch began to giggle uncontrollably; she simply couldn't stop herself.
Her cheeks still burned with embarrassment, but she was now doubled over laughing with a complete stranger in her room.
Feeling still foolish but somewhat better she took her shoe, and her fingers brushed his hand. She looked into his eyes, still crinkling from laughing but she knew he felt the same shift in the air around them. The room was full with something like anticipation. She held her breath, not sure what was going on, not sure what it was she was waiting for.
He ruffled his hair and cleared his throat. Then he stuck out his hand.
“Hi, my name's James, and if it’s not too forward of me, I would like to give you my number. Just so you can call me in case you need help, erm,  should you find the other one," he pointed at the shoe that was pressed against her chest, "scurrying around.”
Lily took his hand, “Hi, I’m Lily, and I’d like that very much.”
It was never wrong to reconsider the things you thought you could well do without, such as rats and men, after all.

Summary: Lily Evans’ plan was to survive her sister’s destination wedding and rush back to her busy life in London, but a slight lapse in judgement and a chance encounter with a bloke who planned to escape his own London life might change everything.
This is the second part of the meet cute I wrote for @thegobletofweasleys Jily week!! Thank you again for organizing it, it was amazing to read all the fics!!
She flinched as she heard a loud noise, sitting up, confused, until she realized she was in her bed, light streaming from the windows, and the offending sound was just someone knocking. “One moment!” She yelled, jumping down and straightening her clothes before reaching for the door. “Looking good, Evans.” James said, grinning at her massive bed head. “It’s almost ten.” “And?” “And if we don’t leave soon it will be too late for what I have in mind.” Lily looked at him, biting her lip. She wanted to go with him, that was the problem. He seemed to sense her hesitation because he faltered, straightening. “Unless you don’t want to, of course.”
Keep reading, from the beginning
