He can't imagine what he should have said It's all been said and sounds cliché He's at the bridge between his head, which says it's dead And his heart, which says, don't let her get away She's gone now, he's singing He hears no two-part harmony He looks around, this can't be real Depression, dark progression Why can he only sing it? What will it take to make him feel?

Percy Jackson Characters as Theater Songs: Part 2
If you haven’t seen part one yet here you go
Now: Heroes of Olympus (and Apollo)
Jason: History Has Its Eyes on You from Hamilton. This song is SO JASON-Y I can’t put it into words. And it could be him talking to someone else or someone talking to him. You pick
Leo: One of These Days from The Jonathan Larson Project. While this isn’t a musical song per se, it’s from Jonathan Larson’s collection of songs meant for musicals he couldn’t write (since he died). Anyway this fits Leo because it has all of the Inventor’s Fury and thoughts of inadequacy he could think of.
Piper: I’d Rather Be Me from Mean Girls. It’s her “revolt against the system” mindset (thats my only defense for this one)
Drew: What The World Needs from Ride the Cyclone. Her TLH “pick me energy” is STRONG with this one. I love Drew but you can’t deny how terrible she was in that book.
Coach Hedge: God I Hate Shakespeare from Something Rotten. I don’t need to defend myself.
Hazel: Winter Blooms from Alice By Heart. This is all completely hypothetical and that is because I know within my HEART and SOUL that Hazel was an Alice’s Adventures girlie. So that means she gets a song from a musical about a girl that uses Alice as an escape (it’s really good look it up). And also the lyrics just seem like something she would say idk
Frank: Stronger from Finding Neverland. It’s his girlboss-glowup era after those Cows
Reyna: Dangerous to Dream from Frozen. Picture this song over her traumatic backstory. Thank me later
Octavian: My Friends from Sweeney Todd. It’s his shabby tendencies (rip Panda pillow pet you were a real one)
Apollo: Chorn from Firebringer. Enough said.
And thats all I currently have! What other Riordanverse characters do y’all want to see?

Hyperfixation is so fucking weird.
Like, I am super into Tick Tick Boom right now. I've watched it three times in the past two weeks.
And that led to looking up the lyrics for Therapy, despite having the song memorized, simply because I wanted to see the words written down.
Which led to reading about The Jonathan Larson Project and watching video of performance of White Male World.
Which led to discovery that Fox aired a Rent Live performance back in 2019, an event I had no idea even existed because I had no television at that time.
Naturally I then needed to watch Rent Live but it's not on streaming so I wound up on a rip someone posted to YouTube.
Which meant having to have opinions about Rent Live FULLY FOUR YEARS AFTER IT AIRED. Like what do you mean Fox had no understudies to take over when Roger broke his foot? Wouldn't they have learned the importance of a backup when Vanessa Hudgens was forced to do Grease the day after her father died? And if they had no understudies, is airing a poorly sound-mixed dress rehearsal where most of the cast is clearly saving their voices for the real performance, the best solution? Joanne was OFF KEY in Take Me Or Leave Me and that song is a BARN BURNER, performing off pitch is a WAR CRIME. Why not just LET ROGER BE IN A WHEELCHAIR, YOU COWARDS.
Then I lost like two hours of my night reading critic's reviews of the broadcast.
Brains are NEAT.

MY FAVOURITE WRITER-ISH MOVIES
You’ve read the title correctly, and I can hear you saying: “Lifebetweenpages, you’re still not giving us a recap of the books you have read over the past month (plus a few weeks, give or take)! Bad Bookblr creator!” However, instead, I am giving you my list of movies to watch when you are out of ideas for your books, can’t be bothered to read and still want to feel like an intelligent author. We’ve all been there.
I can also hear you saying “But Lifebetweenpages, how can you be a trustworthy authority on writer things? You’re our favourite bibliomane, not our favourite author!” To this, I raise two points:
I have been writing silly little books since I was virtually a toddler, and I have three main projects sitting dejectedly in my Google Docs currently, my novel which I work on most frequently sitting at an upsettingly ‘decent’ 23k words.
I do imagine you would have more faith in me, dear hypothetical followers, seeing as you only exist in my synapses, and I would hope I hold higher opinions about myself than that. However, I believe many of you (hypothetically) should have (hypothetically) guessed that I’m a writer as well as a reader, seeing as all writers read and many readers write.
Now with that out of the way, let’s jump into our list, and by list I mean my ramblings about two very specific movies.
1 - DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989)
I’ve decided to put the obvious up first, so you can skim through this if you have either watched this incredible movie or have already heard glowing reviews.
With its heavy focus on classic poetry and message of embracing the arts and following your passions, it’s not a surprise that Dead Poets Society has became the artist’s top pick movie and a cliche staple on this sort of snappy list.
When I say the movie focuses on poetry, I mean a much stronger term. Dead Poets Society promotes poetry in a way, showing the viewer the truth, joy and magic that comes with the form of art, inspiring them to go out and seize it. If that doesn’t help sell the movie to you, just note that my friends and I, who come out of every poetry analysis in English class with our eyes glazed over, were inspired to create our own Dead Poets Society, meeting every so often. In fact, we reconvene in two days time at the time of writing, and I still need to pick a poem (and it will be a Sylvia Plath.)
Another element that stands out in Dead Poets Society is the atmosphere of the film, somehow drawing in: a contagious teenage sense of wonder and mischief, world-destroying grief, and that Dark Academia aesthetic that people on the internet adore and my blog leans into all together.
So please, even if you aren’t a writer or reader and have stumbled onto this page confused and startled, give this movie a watch, for your own world to be changed if not just for me.
2 - TICK, TICK... BOOM! (2021)
You know the overwhelming sense of doom that comes with attempting to make your mark on the world? Do you recognise the sense of dread that drowns you whenever you remember the concept of time? Well so did Jonathan Larson, and he documented the experience expertly when writing Tick, Tick… BOOM!
Lately, I’ve been hearing this sound. Everywhere I go. Like a tick. Tick. Tick. Like a time bomb in some cheesy B-movie or Saturday morning cartoon. The fuse has been lit. The clock counts down the seconds as the flame gets closer, and closer, and closer, until all at once -
This was written years before he achieved fame with RENT, years before his genius was appreciated, and years before his untimely death from an aortic dissection. Tick, tick... BOOM! was written when Jonathan was relatively unknown, struggling with balancing work, social life and his art, and completely confused as how to tackle the final fragment that was needed to complete the musical he had been working on for the entirety of his youth, fighting against the tides of the ever-chasing deadline of Superbia's first showcase. Whatever your art is, I imagine you can relate to the desperation of Jonathan.
Andrew Garfield, who plays Jonathan Larson, perfectly portrays the starving artist, ever frantic to please, ever submerged in just how much there is to balance, ever striving to make a difference, and it almost feels as if he has held a mirror up to the artist's soul, portraying all of the irrationality and the unintentional selfishness as well as the charisma and the creativity that I see in myself every time I look into my mind for more than one second.
All of these factors and more that I can't find the words to describe (which is a lot for me, because I always find some words, however shallow they may be) makes Tick, Tick... BOOM! one of my favourite movies. Plus, the songs are absolute magic (I have a very strange favourite - Play Game - how can a song parodying 90s hip hop reflect upon the commercialisation of theatre in such an eloquent way?)
So those are my recommendations for all your tired writer needs, and once you do watch these, my asks are open for you to wax poetic about their glory.

'The Marvels' and 'Ant-Man 3' Swap Release Dates in 2023 (via Variety)
Tumblr media
Marvel Studios productions “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” are swapping release dates, Disney announced Friday.
“The Marvels,” the sequel to 2019’s “Captain Marvel,” was originally due to open in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023, and “Quantumania,” the third movie in the “Ant-Man” series, was set to open on July 28, 2023.
Instead, “Quantumania” will now bow first in February, and “The Marvels” will debut in July.
Insiders say this was a matter of “Quantumania” simply being further along in its creative process than “The Marvels,” as the former has wrapped principal photography while “The Marvels” still has a bit more to go. Marvel Studios’ other big theatrical release in 2023, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” is still set to debut on May 5, 2023.
The release date shuffling is likely to raise eyebrows among hardcore observers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it suggests that the 2023 feature projects aren’t as closely linked as previous MCU movies.
“Quantumania” is expected to continue the multiverse storyline launched with the 2021 Disney+ series “Loki,” which featured Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains, whose death creates the multiverse in the MCU. In “Quantumania,” Majors will play the main villain and a variant of his “Loki” character, Kang the Conqueror. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are all returning for “Quantumania,” along with director Peyton Reed.
“The Marvels” is set to tie-in with two Disney+ shows: 2021’s “WandaVision,” which introduced Teyonah Parris as the adult Monica Rambeau, and this June’s “Ms. Marvel,” which will introduce Iman Vellani as Captain Marvel superfan Kamala Khan. Brie Larson is reprising her role as Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers), with Nia DaCosta (“Candyman”) taking on directing duties.
Ironically, “Quantumania” was originally set to open in February 2023. But in October, it was bumped when Disney pushed back Marvel’s entire 2022 theatrical slate to give more time for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” to complete filming and post-production, and to accommodate production delays on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” following an injury to star Letitia Wright. “Doctor Strange 2” is now the next MCU title set to debut; it will open in theaters on May 6.

Okay, so apparently Derek is working with ANOTHER (confirmed) art tracer for his new Marvel Comics series ‘All-Out Avengers’ — one who traces from adult-oriented internet videos of women — maybe that could be used to bring some actual attention to the Percival tracing drama on Twitter or something, bring the Marvel stans into things? Because they get really vocal about this sort of stuff, and Brie Larson being used for Abyssinia could be one way to get them onto things.
Greg Land is the artist for ‘All-Out Avengers’ and, well, tracing seems to be like the main thing he’s known for apparently.
I was checking Landy's Twitter and the post announcing the project did not receive any backlash. Actually none of the announcements got any reactions and the one reaction it got was on the Bleeding Cool post where one person noped away bc of Greg Land. Soooo no one but Landy fans actually seem to care about this project despite Twitter being full of people hating on Greg Land. Huh.
“Tracing the Success of Greg Land“ by ComicTropes is a really good vid, showing he had been tracing since the start of his career and pointing out that tracing actually made Land’s art worse. His art is now more realistic but has stiff figure work, confusing expression, bad panelling, less dynamic and he’s losing his imagination/creativity. And omg it’s so good hearing someone who gets art talk about it. Like, I’ve seen the exact same thing with Tom Percival where his early SP work was REALLY good, dynamic and interesting. Meanwhile his recent SP work tries to be photorealistic but ends up in uncanny valley instead, the new covers are boring und unimaginative and the characters he draws feel stiff despite the attempts at dynamic poses and almost all of the characters have the same neutral expressions
Also, through this vid I’ve learned that if an artist traces from another artist it’s called ‘swipping’. Good to know the worst tracing offense has it’s own name.
“Plagiarism Expert Looks at the Greg Land Plagiarism Allegations“ by Jonathan Bailey is also a really interesting vid. For one, I love hearing an experts opinion. But it’s also disheartening to hear that Land’s alien trace is, while morally apprehensive, within the realm of legality. If that’s the case then there is a 0% chance that the Captain Marvel trace could be used against Percival. It has always been one of the weaker proofs of tracing, so I’m not that surprised about it tbh.
It’s also sickening to find out that someone like Greg Land who has been repeatingly proven to trace and swipe is not only still getting plenty of work but work from big names like Marvel and DC. Tho tbf Marvel and DC aren’t what they used to be. They pay crap and screw their artists and writers in more way than one way with shit contracts and tight deadlines.
_____________
I’m not sure if the authors can choose which artist they want. The best I found is “What's it like being a comic book artist” on the QAGOMA YT channel where Wanye Nichols talks about his experiences in comics and apparently he would be offered scripts asking if he wants to work on them or not and decided which he would take based on if he has time and if it fits his art style. When he had to work with an inker he didn’t like he couldn’t change the inker in the middle of the project but since then he paid attention to who his co-workers would be and he could suggest people he wants to work with.
I’d imagine comic authors would have similar freedoms. So while I don’t know if Landy asked for Greg Land to be the artist for ‘All-Out Avengers’, he apparently didn’t object to working with him. And there is no way he didn’t know Land is a tracer, I mean, it’s literally on page one when you google his name and everyone googles the people they plan to work with. Come on, we all do.
This doesn’t help bring more attention to Percival’s tracing, I don’t think so and learning about Greg Land leads me to believe it doesn’t matter anyways. But it sure as hell confirms that Landy is the kind of dirt-bag that doesn’t mind tracing as long as it gets him desired results. I mean, with Percival I can understand that firing the artist in the middle of a cover series is ill advised if you want to keep the style consistent (then again again, so is firing the actor for the main villain in the middle of a movie franchise #JusticeForJohnny), but I was hoping at least getting called out would make Percival stop tracing (it didn’t) or they would choose a different cover artist for phase 3 (they probably won’t). But there is no excuse for teaming up with a well known tracer. And one that traces from p0rn at that 🤮 but knowing what a pervy creep Landy is, that’s probably a plus for him
Landy really doesn’t have any morals, now does he?
____________
Ngl I was kinda waiting for someone like ‘Comics Matter w/ya boi Zack’ or YellowFlash to cover Landy’s comics and, quite frankly, roast the hell outta them. But no one is talking about them. I guess they are mediocre enough to not get roasted but also not get recommended 🤷 I’m honestly surprised by that considering I thought the SP comic to be very badly writing. Like, the dialog made me cringe so hard. Well, maybe comic book fans don’t despise his immature humour quite as much as I do.

It’s time now to change-out Though the energy never ends LFG and celebrate, while at it With a world to mend
And center the love Don’t forget to, what you meant, too Center the love Share change, give change, spread change Measure in loving change Seasons of change Measure, measure your impact in change.
