truthfully, edwina doesn't know when her feelings toward her... prior engagement turned into a wave of scalding hot anger. it felt like one day she was fine; she could laugh and smile easily.

even if no one noticed how her eyes lacked their usual shine.

she was accepting invitations to the brigerton house.

even if it makes her skin crawl to be near anthony once more.

she was attending balls and dancing with potential suitors once more.

even if she knew those same men whispered behind her back.

edwina brushed off the first embers of resentment that began to form in her. she was a rational thinker who had read extensively on the mind and man. unsurprisingly, her situation with lord bridgerton is causing her current negative feelings.

knowing it was kate that held his affection did not make the situation better.

however, as the new season progressed, edwina became less inclined to accept her sister's request for a visit. she felt more obligated to burn the parchment with each invitation. why must kate insist on forcing this blending of families? was it not kate who let the farce between anthony and edwina go on? was it not anthony who purposely pursued her, knowing he wanted her fucking sister?

(once, after everything was...better, kate admitted to sleeping with him before edwina's wedding ceremony. edwina didn't know whether to strangle her, laugh, or cry. god, what a fucking idiot she was.)

after a few narrow yet successful attempts at avoiding the bridgerton house, amma finally talks with her.

('ed, would you care to tell me what is wrong, my love?' 'nothing, amma. i am fine.' cue a fake smile. her mother does not falter.

'why have you not been visiting your sister as of late? she thinks you are terribly upset with her.' fake smile falters.

'i have been busy, amma, with suitors.' they both stare at each other.

they both know that edwina is a ruined girl.)

amma does not bring up the topic again and must have told kate as the contents of her invitations include discussing future prospects. edwina scoffs. as if kate's antics last season did not ruin her so-called prospects. no man wants a woman with a bloodhound for a sister, and no man especially wants a woman who runs from the altar.

god, she was truly fucked, wasn't she?

as the days continued and her discontent grew, edwina could finally root out the cause of her horrible disposition.

betrayal.

every single goddamn person around her betrayed her. everyone around her knew about kate and anthony's affection for one another. they saw her play the love-blind fool and said nothing.

not her mother.

not lady danbury.

not even her fucking sister.

hell, none of the bridgerton siblings could muster up the courage to tell what she was too dumb to see. with how rambunctious they are, she's surprised none of them blurted it out during that blasted game of pallmall.

she sees it later, however.

how everyone subtly looks at her when anthony shares a kiss with kate.

how eloise tries to engage in discussion with her about their latest reads.

how daphne always has a sad smile for edwina every time they see each other.

how anthony doesn't even look at her when making the announcement about kate's pregnancy.

how her mother gives her a look of pity at each rejected invitation to the bridgerton house.

it's such a shame that edwina did not know whether to scream, cry, or break something once her emotions hit her at total capacity. she is lucky for the presence of the moon, as she can scream into her pillow all night.

Hence the opening S3 fight between Sparrow, Umbrellas and Bridgertons that is escalated by the presence of weaponised government agents. Fire, ice, metal, electricity and more is being flung around the renowned mansion. Benedict finally sees why none of Sophie's siblings survived entering the ring with her. The rest of the family find out what the twins’ powers are–and wonder how on earth Eloise and Phillip cope with them. Anthony is running around the house because the initial blast separated him and Kate from Neddy.

Finally he finds Neddy, quivering under a table as some guards march down the corridor, guns raised.

Tne entire corridor tuns to fire, the guards turn to ash.

“Neddy!” he cries, arms open and the little boy runs into his fathers arms, sobbing,

“Papa, papa!”

“It's ok, you're safe, you’re safe. Papa is going to keep you safe,” he murmurs into his curls, clutching him tight.

“Anthony!” He turns to find Kate running towards him and they clasp onto one another.

“We need to find a way out,” he murmurs into her hair and she nods.

“I know a way, we just–”

“Anthony Bridgerton.”

Anthony freezes. He slowly pivots round to find Harold Durant at the end of the fiery corridor with a cheshire cat smile. In his hand a red pocket watch.

“I assume this is your resignation.” Anthony’s grip on Neddy tightens. Durant cocks his head. “A pity, but I’ll collect my collateral soon enough–and isn't it a pretty little thing.”

“You will not touch him,” Anthony says through gritted teeth.

“Oh Anthony, we’ve known each other for years now, surely you know that when I make a deal,” the fire lights up Durant’s face in demonic shadows, “I always get my due one way or another.”

“My son is not for sale, you vile pig. Go find something else.” Kate shouts.

“That is a shame…in that case tell your family that they need to pay all that debt they owe. I’m sure Benedict will be delighted with his new permanent position.”

Durant’s face is obscured by another flame of fire from Anthony who has gone deathly pale. He turns to find fury as hot as the fire in Kate's eyes,she pulls Neddy off him..

“You will explain–later.” She takes Neddy and cradles him, holding him as far away from Anthony as she can. “Right now we need to get the hell out of here.”

Chapter 10. Dance.

Neither of them broke their tense eye contact, neither was willing to be the first one to break it. Their dance however, was not smooth, with each of them trying to set the pace and the steps.

“For heaven’s sake, will you let me lead, Kate?”

Kate huffed in annoyance and stepped on his foot, surely on purpose. She gave him a sarcastic smile, “Fine, take the lead.” Anthony narrowed his eyes at her.

“You do realize that I’m the one who is supposed to be annoyed with you and not the other way around, right?”

“Do tell why you’re annoyed, then.” Though she knew why he was, she did not want to concede to him that easily.

Anthony scoffed. “Are you serious right now? I’m sure you know the first dance is supposed to be between husband and wife, not between third-oldest brother and wife?”
