let the waves pull me in
pairings: keith & garrison trio words: 2.7k chapters: 1/1
“Hey, where are you going?”  Two steps into his departure and Keith freezes, turning to see all three of the others looking at him. Pidge is frowning at him in confusion, hands on her hips and clearly waiting for an answer. Keith feels caught for some reason. “Oh.” He glances back and forth between them and the open sea, scrambling for an explanation. “I… don’t really know.” Hunk points his thumb over his shoulder. “Aren’t you coming with us?”  Keith opens his mouth. Closes it. Mentally, Shiro is shaking him by the shoulders and screaming at him to say yes. Why is he even hesitating? His gaze slides over to Lance, half-expecting him to be the one to start laughing and tell him it was just a joke, but even he’s watching Keith expectantly, head cocked slightly to the side.  “I don’t—er, I mean, I… guess?”

Fic Update: Through Fire and Smoke, Chapter Two
Fanfiction summary: They’re trapped. They’re trapped and the room is filling up with fire and smoke and there’s no way out and both Pidge and Lance are down and if Keith doesn’t figure something out they are all going to die.
Chapter snippet:
But, Keith smirked behind his hand, the Galrans had severely underestimated their enemy if they thought a little smoke, fire and a locked door were enough to stop Paladins of Voltron.
He summoned his bayard in a shimmer of red-tinged white light and surged for the door, Lance stepping aside without needing told, and Keith went to slice right through the door.
Or, well, he meant to.
His blade skidded lengthwise across it and Lance let out another yelp as he barely evaded the wayward strike and Keith was only dimly aware of Lance shouting his name as his eyes darted from his bayard to the door and Pidge, around a cough, asking what the fuck had just happened.
That…
That wasn’t possible.
He’d seen his bayard cut through metal; it beheaded sentries on a semi-regular basis.
Aim for the glass window maybe?
He turned back to the door, angling the sword so this time he was aiming away from Lance just in case, and brought it down.
He skittered once more across the door, not even carving a furrow.
Okay.
So the door and the window on it were reinforced.
No need to panic. The wall next to it would work just as well.
His blade bounced off it too.
His heart thudded louder than the crackling flames that were filling up more and more of the room and Keith was starting to think here was some sort of accelerant inside the walls that kept feeding them.
This was not good.
This was very not good.
“Okay, okay, enough with the samurai stuff,” Lance said and Keith was peripherally aware of a flash of blue-tinged light.
His heart leapt into his throat at the implication.
“Don’t—!”
He was drowned out as Lance’s bayard went off, a perfect shot at one of the hinges on the door, but the door didn’t explode.
The flames did though.
Pidge shrieked as Keith tackled her backwards just as the wall of fire — definitely some sort of accelerant and Lance’s bayard laser had acted like fucking gasoline to it — would have hit her.
They went down in a tangle of limbs and a clack of armor and Keith felt heat scorch across his back and he threw his hands up to try to cover his head less his hair catch on fire.

Keith's dad didn't die in the fire. He died of burns days later in a hospital and young Keith watched as his father deteriorated before his eyes.
Bonus points if it's revealed through flashbacks when Lance sacrifices himself and he just breaks
I want to watch someone break
Don't pressure yourself to work on this until you're ready

-----
“Come on baby we have to get up.” Keith poked the boy that laid on top of him.
Lance groaned, “five more minutes.”
Keith chuckled, “these five minutes have turned into fifteen. We have to get up.”
Lance mumbled something under his breath before he rolled off his boyfriend. “I hate you.”
“Yeah, I bet you do.” Keith sat up and planted a soft kiss onto Lance’s hairline. “See you at breakfast?”
Lance nodded, “love you.”
“Love you too.” Keith left the room, nodding at Shiro who was leaving his. “Morning Shiro.”
“Morning Keith. Lance awake?”
“Yeah. Let me get changed and I’ll head down to the deck.”
“I’ll be waiting.” Shiro walked down the hallway and Keith entered his room. He focused on the fuzzy feeling that bloomed in his gut. For once in his life he was happy. He was with his found family. His family. It still felt weird to say. And to top it off, he had Lance. He actually got the boy he wanted.
Nothing could ruin this.
---
“We can’t win until that weapon is destroyed!” Pidge screamed as their lion was hit with another blast.
“But how? All of our blasts don’t even scratch it?” Hunk asked, nervousness plaguing his voice.
“It opened up before each attack. I think that’s its weak point.” Pidge responded, moving her lion so she was next to Shiro.
“Well, it’s getting ready to attack again!” Hunk said, and everyone prepared for the next attack.
“I know what to do.” Lance’s voice crackled over the coms as he flew his lion into the opening. A bright light filled the surrounding space. The weapon broke into multiple pieces.
“Lance?!” Everyone called his name, twisting their lions to check the surrounding space.
“Allura! Can you track the blue lion?” Shiro asked, his voice falling into a slight panic.
Keith couldn’t hear anything. He could feel anything, his vision swam. Lance. He needed to find Lance.
He tried to squeeze the handle of the Red lion. Maybe he was moving, maybe he wasn’t. Nothing made sense. Lance couldn’t be gone. He was just right there. They had breakfast together. They shared the same bed last night. He wasn’t-
Beep.
He smacked his helmet, He couldn’t handle this right now. Not right now.
Beep.
His breath hitched in his throat. He silently pleaded to himself for it to stop. He couldn’t think of this. He didn’t want to think of this. He was gone, Lance wasn’t. Lance couldn’t be gone.
Beep.
He leaned forward, sliding his helmet off. Yanking on his hair as soon as he could. This couldn't be happening. This wasn’t happening.
---
He awoke breathless, his hair clingy to his forehead with sweat. His heart was beating out of his chest and he found himself hugging his knees. Rocking back and for softly.
He took a deep breath, nearly gagging on the stale air. He stumbled off the bed, rushing out the door into the bright hallway. Gasping.
He hated that smell. The medical smell that made your lungs hurt.
A voice sounded by him, a familiar hand rubbing his back. “In and out Keith. Take a deep breath.”
Keith choked on his own breathing. He needed to get away from the smell.
Beep.
He grabbed at his hair again, his body falling into a fetal position. “Make it go away. Please.” He knew his voice was jumbled. He figured Shiro was telling him something or calling for help but he couldn’t move.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
He came to in a bright room. Shiro sitting next to where he laid. “Hey, you okay?”
He tried to rub his eyes. “Where?”
“The med bay.”
His blood ran cold. “No...I gotta-I can’t be here.”
Shiro frowned at him, “Keith. We need to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Losing Lance-”
“GET ME OUT OF HERE!” He found himself falling off the bed, trying to scramble out of the room.
“Keith!” Shiro followed him, grabbing him slightly. “We can leave but just try and calm down.”
He didn’t properly calm down until he was in Lance’s bed. His green jacket pulled tightly around him. “Shiro I-”
The older man raised his hand. “It’s okay. You’re...dealing with a lot. We all are.”
Neither of them spoke. Just letting the silence grow between them. Shiro released a tight breath. “The team is here for you. We’re all here for you.” He placed his hand on Keith’s shoulder. “And we will find him.”
Keith closed his eyes. “What if he’s gone.”
“No. We’re not going to think like that. Until we know for sure. We’re not going to think like that. You can’t let yourself think like that.”
Beep.
He squeezed his eyes tighter. Praying that beep would go away.
---
Keith stared at the table, trying to keep himself from dissociating completely. This was the first time he was eating with the group in weeks.
A slight smokey smell filled the air and Hunk ran from the kitchen, waving an oven mitt around. “Sorry, I turned the oven on too much. My mind has been distracted lately.”
Keith tried to shallow his breathing but it was too late. The slight smoke filled his lungs. The beeping noise filled his ears. The bright room, the white bed sheets. The bandages. The smoky smell that stuck to his clothes.
Keith stood from the table, running out of the room. He didn’t stop until he was back in Lance’s bed. Holding his jacket. Breathing in his smell that had started to fade.
---
He swung at another bot, tumbling out of the way in a less than grateful roll. He was tired. His muscles screamed at him to stop. His head swam. When was the last time he slept?
He had been avoiding it since Hunk burnt that food. He wasn’t mad at Hunk in any way. Maybe mad at himself? For not being the first one to move toward the weapon. For losing Lance. For thinking about him right now? He buried those memories, why were they resurfacing?
“End training sequence!” Shiro’s voice boomed across the training deck. “Keith!” He jogged over to him. “Allura found the Blue lion.”
---
Lance was alive. Hurt, but alive.
They had to travel to a small planet. Apparently, the Blue lion had mini-warped to another galaxy. Crash-landed on the planet.
Keith stood outside the room Lance was in. Where Lance was healing. The others stood by him, nobody moved. Keith took the first step, relieved that nobody tried to follow and he stepped into the room.
Bandages. So many bandages. They covered his arms and neck. How far did they go under his clothes? His breathing was shallow, but he was breathing.
Keith took a step closer, his eyes glued to the white material. He took a hesitant breath.
The air was stale. Medically cleaned.
His body shuttered and he closed his eyes.
Beep.
Was that in the room or his head?
Beep.
Beep.
He found himself stepping backward. Tears burned his eyes.
Beep.
“I’m sorry.” He mumbled before he ran out of the room. Out of the building, Straight to his lion. Only then, he allowed himself to cry.
---
He hugged his knees closer, cursing himself for how cowardness. Lance was back in the castle. He was put in a pod. He would be awake any moment.
And where was Keith? Lance’s loving and devoted boyfriend?
In his room, not Lance’s. His room, sitting in the corner trying not to freak out.
“Deep breath in. Deep breath out.” He mumbled to himself.
Beep.
He covered his ears.
Beep.
“Go away.”
Beep. Beep. Beep.
“Go away. Go away. Go away!”
“Hey...hey babe what’s wrong?” Smooth hands grabbed his wrist, pulling them away from his head.
He lifted his head, his eyes falling on the ocean. “Lance!” He lunged forward, wrapping his arms around the other boy. Lance quickly reciprocated. “I thought you were dead.”
Lance laughed, “I did too.”
They held each other until their bodies cramped. Only then pulling away. Lance sitting next to him.
Keith stared at Lance’s arms, they were covered by his sleeves. How badly was he hurt? How badly was he left scared?
Lance followed his eyes. Rolling up his sleeves. “No scars. The people that took me in had this...remedy? I don’t know. Allura told me about it. Git rid of the scars. Even the one of my back from Arus.”
Keith nodded, closing his eyes again.
“Shiro...said you were having a hard time.”
“I guess you could call it that.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Beep.
Keith took a deep breath, reaching for Lance’s hand. “I just want to be with you.” He rested his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder. The beeping noise finally faded for a bit.
-----
I hope I did a good job on this <3 I was going to add Keith telling someone about his dad but
1) Writing fatigue
2) I think he would be too stressed to tell people what was happening
I really hate hospitals so I used this to kinda...project my hatred to them
Thank you!!! <3

Btw, I wrote a fic about Keith and Lance.
Summary:
Keith’s had some bad experiences with his boyfriends in the past, which is why he doesn’t want to take it any further with Lance. He feels bad about it and decides that his own feelings aren’t as important, so if Lance wants to take it further, then that’s fine by him (it’s not).
i’ve only written 1/3 chapters, and idk when the rest will be posted, but i’ll post it on tumblr
warning: this fic is gonna contain themes like rape/dub-/non-con, abusive relationships, sexual abuse, smut, and bad self-esteem/boundaries etc.
don’t like, don’t read

This is a Lance based on a langst/slow burn klance au where he goes undercover and gains a second scar right over his pre-existing one.
So the gist of this au is that Lance is sent alone to attempt to investigate a partial lead on a massive druid energy harvesting operation. No one else they've sent in has managed to get in deep enough but they note that all the ppl who do (none affiliated with the coalition) have scars that the Queen on this planet favors.
One such scar is a back scar which Lance just so happens to have and they send him as a tourist to see if it gains attention. It does and he ends up deep undercover alone and with no contact. During his stay he quickly gains the queens favor as his back scar mirrors one on her favorite gods from her home planet, the god of freedom Asteus.
This god gave up his freedom (his wings thus the back scar) so that their people could gain eternity so she grows possessive of lance, thinks his freedom is hers to harvest.
She starts calling him by the name Asteus and brands his back taking not only his voice (so he can't share any information he's learned) but his freedom and life energy.
The brand is a tracker, a seal, and a quintessence drain. Lance is unable to escape alone and has all the information the coalition needs to save millions.
He's freed by the aid of two others also trapped by the queen (two that were too weak to take the same brand) and Keith holds lance close as the brand is removed through the silent scream and tears.
It scars though and lance hates it, he won't look at it, has lost confidence bc of it. He has lost parts of himself to the trauma. It's Keith that helps him learn to heal, it's Keith that helps him as a support and helps him learn to be empowered again by not concealing the scar as it continues to fade.
Keith gifts Lance jewelery made of gold to drape across his back to help him feel beautiful again To help him feel free (bc it's his choice to wear or show the scar with pride and the gold helps lance see that he doesn't have to fear it anymore, bc he is safe)
Dark ik but it's a very dramatic au like the word doc for it has 5k words of just info in it. It's a mystery mostly but with the added langst (and slow burn kl) there's so much more to it but this scene wouldn't leave my head so I drew it
A gift of love and care that lance wears as he learns to heal again. I will be writing it one day but it's still in the planning phases.

how do i explain to people that my first approach to omegaverse was in 2016 through a voltron fanfiction, but back then i had no idea what volton was. reading the fic it seemed to be about aliens and sci fi stuff i just assumed the omegaverse part was canonical. like a real piece of lore from the serie. so i went and streamed voltron and you can imagine my confusion.

“I’m probably the most drummer-influenced guitar player around. Over the years, Charlie and I developed a style between us, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that for many, many years I couldn't hear us onstage at all. The chicks are screaming and the band has no P.A.
So we developed a way of playing where it didn't matter if we heard the voice or the bass-it was just Charlie and me. I'd be forced right up against Charlie's kit with my amp right next to him. My playing would have been totally different if I hadn't gone through that with Charlie. I developed more and more of the rhythm things and licks because he was really all I was playing to.”-Keith Richards, 1989

Shiro, the Coming-Out Hero by quietly_sophos
Keith takes the sandwich silently. He doesn’t look up. After a few bites, he mumbles: “So...that’s okay? To like boys?”
What… “Yeah, it is,” says Shiro, keeping his tone carefully neutral. He slides onto the stool besides Keith.
“Oh,” says Keith again, even quieter, almost in a whisper. Shiro makes a noncommittal noise. Keith is a difficult boy to read, and Shiro still isn’t sure where he’s going with this.
“Shiro,” says Keith again, and it’s so quiet that Shiro almost misses it. “I think I like boys, too.”
Oh.
---
Or, five times Voltron came out to Shiro, and one time Shiro came out to them.

One thing that bothers me about people passing around the irrevocably untrue statement that Acxa had a "one-sided crush" on Keith is that if Acxa had a crush on Keith (which she doesn't as far as we know, cause what they have in canon is a warrior's bond) then Keith must have one in return for her.
Cause that's what Erica Luttrell (presumably, cause all we have is a second-hand source from someone at a fan convention) confirmed. Originally, Acxa and Keith were gonna be together. Meaning that Keith would be as much interested in her as she was in him.
So if you are going to presume Acxa was in love or attracted to Keith, then the reverse would also be true as that was what was originally intended, but dropped later down the line in the writing process. As plotlines often are.

Me: Cool! After only being able to write oneshots, I finally finished writing the first chapter of my first multichapter project. Time to get into the second one! My brain: Mmh... What about no? Me: ...Huh? My brain: What about taking the core idea of the fic, but changing everything else, including the main pairing? Me: W-Wait, that's not what I had in mind! My brain: Don't give a damn. Now you go and make it about your comfort ship.

New Fic: Interlude: What Makes Us Different (But Also Human)
Part of the Human Nature series.
Summary: Where Pidge and Keith discuss what about their heritages of android and Galran are the same, different, and discover how truly human they actually are.
Story snippet:
“Are you tired?” she asked quieter.
She could only imagine. He’d had the trials with the Blade of Marmora that morning that had been both physically and emotionally draining, then the whole thing with Allura in the hallway, the cryo-pod and yeah, she’d be exhausted too.
He gave a short nod. “Can’t sleep,” he said quietly and his hands — sans gloves, one of the few times she could recall seeing him without them — tightened to white-knuckles around his mug.
“Come watch a movie with me,” Pidge said, the suggestion out of her mouth before she could think it through but that was perfect actually. “If you can’t sleep, you can at least focus on something else other than,” she tapped her head, “everything else. And maybe the nice, dark room with ambient sound and comfy, squishy couch pillows and blankets will make you oh so sleepy.”
Keith’s lips quirked up the barest bit. “Hercules?”
“Duh,” Pidge grinned back at him. “Plus the young Hercules sort of sounds like Shiro, don’t you think? And it’ll be like he’s singing us a bedtime lullaby.”
Keith did let out a laugh then — a real one that crinkled his eyes — even as he shook his head and Pidge’s grin widened.

Fic 96 is Up! And it's a Voltron Fic!
It's called Comfort Food, and it can be found here. I just don't stop writing apparently, even though I really, really should be doing assignment work. Go give it a read!

i don’t think we talk enough about how keith realizes that the *only* thing that can break the shield is lotor’s lasers. after he was ready to man his own ship into that barrier. it’s a terrifying thought that he was about to sacrifice himself for nothing.

Everyone found out that Keith has genetic ties to the Galra, the red paladin himself included. Though Shiro assured him that all was fine, Keith doesn't quite think so. He's sure Allura hates me, Coran hasn't said much, and Hunk is just full of questions. Talking with Lance and Pidge, though, could change his mind on the matter.
Okay! Uploaded it sooner than I anticipated, but that’s fine! I wrote a oneshot based on the post by @unconventional-nerd. So, here we go! It focuses mainly on Keith interacting with Lance and Pidge shortly after he finds out he’s Galran and before they start their missions to rescue Slav and collect the scaultrite.  Hope y’all enjoy!
