“One of the many things that I don't like about MLB's Derision ep. is that not only they're blaming all of Marinette's bad actions on Chloe (instead of just making Mari own up to her bad actions and just get positive character development along the way), but as soon as she realizes that her trauma "ALL" comes from Chloe herself, she suddenly has this huge happy, cheery, go-lucky relief moment from realizing that this person (AND two other people, but the writers don't care and excuses their actions tho) has caused her really bad trauma. Like, neither the writers nor Thomas has NO IDEA how trauma works. It's just really weird to me because if I was her, I don't know if I really would be all happy-go-lucky in getting a realization of who was the person who caused my horrendous trauma, ESPECIALLY if they're still in my life. That scene was just SO WEIRD to me. 

They flaunt trauma in this cartoon like it's nothing, let alone the fact that they were trying to make us believe that Marinette's bad behavior was supposed to be funny/the joke in prior seasons. This episode also ruined Kim and Kim x Ondine for me. Kim was a part of Marinette’s trauma, but just because he says a simple sorry, then all’s good. Not to mention that almost in entirety of the episode, Kim was very sure of himself that the way he thought wasn’t wrong, and that people just “can’t take a joke”. However, he easily changes his mind about it and apologizes??? And why hasn’t Marinette shown uneasiness around Kim too outside of the episode??? 

I don’t know why Marinette, Adrien and ESPEICALLY Ondine would forgive him after that? Ondine (and even MAX since he’s Kim’s best friend AND I use to ship them in canon a lot) deserve better tbh.”

"Kim was kind of a jerk in season one"

And

"Derision assasinated Kim's character"

Are two statements that can and should coexist. Yes, season one had hints that Kim was a sort of secondary antagonist (the origins episode where he gets Ivan akumatized, that one episode where he gets Alya's dad akumatized due to his idiot jock behavior, his idiot jock behavior, the fact that he had a crush on Chloe which apparently is grounds for being a bad person in Astrucs eyes) but most of those traits disappeared after Dark Cupid. Season two onwards, Kim hates Chloe just as much as the other good guys (which is grounds for being a good person in Astrucs eyes) and dosen't really cause akumas anymore. Season 3 onwards, Kim is established as a pure good himbo that Master Fu likes enough to personally give him a miraculous (something he only did with the main characters of the show). Season 1 existed, but it dosen't invalidate evey season after itself.

Is historical revisionism based on a retcon. And a bad retcon at that! The writers did not write this idea into the show until Derision came out, that is so obviously a retcon that it's almost as bad as Kim being retconed to be a pure nice himbo!

Miraculous Ladybug is terrible at character writing and Derision just highlights that fact. In any other show, the idea that Kim helped traumatize Marinette would have been either some type of dark secret (Kim is deeply ashamed of his actions but has moved on since them and become a better person) or a very dark plot twist (Kim and Sabrina are secretly terrible people who helped Chloe abuse Marinette and are almost just as bad as her). But because it happened in Miraculous, Kim is going to leave this episode scot free while Chloe is going to be racked over coals cuz "tHiS pRoVeS sHeS pUrE eViL!1!"

After some discussion with friends and the awful episode that is called Derision, I’ve decided that I have a new ship that I like even more Kim x Ondine & Kim x Max now..

You may be thinking, Why such an odd crack ship? Well…

It mostly comes from my desire to see them interact. Ondine is Kim’s girlfriend canonically and Max is Kim’s best friend canonically. It’s kind of strange that we never seen them interact in the series. I just figured Kim would love to see his girlfriend and best friend meet and be friends?

I think it can make for an interesting dynamic. The sweet, tomboyish, tall and sporty Ondine going for the sweet and nerdy small bean Max seems compelling to me for some reason lol I think they also could be very supporting individuals for each other.

I know this is questionable, but I ship Maxdine together for almost out of pure spite for disliking Kim. Petty I know, but for the way Kim has treated both of them in the past, it’s mostly for a cathartic joke lol 😂

Even though I constantly try to remind myself that it’s not really his fault for the portrayal of his inconsistent character writing, MLB’s Derision really ruined Kim for me as a character (if it was anything about his character that I liked in the first place).

I haven’t lost complete interest in Kimax nor Kimdine, but I just think at this point, they both deserve better than Kim, and Kim needs to work on himself before being in any relationship with anyone. 

And a lighter note, if Maxdine ever gets married and have a family of their own, I can see a grown Kim being the kids’ silly but funny Uncle.
