A Reflection on Alex Kidd
Some time ago I played through two platformers that happened to have re-releases on the Switch.
The first was Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil. An excellent game, very good platformer, would definitely recommend even if it gets kinda intense towards the end.
The other was Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX. Alex Kidd was one of those franchises that I knew existed, but didn’t think too much about. Most of my exposure was via Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle on the Genesis, which was decidedly kinda janky (and not in a fun way) and punishing. But it still remained a curiosity to me, so when the remake caught my eye, I decided to eventually nab it and experience it for myself.
Cut to now and I’ve not only played Miracle World DX, but the Sega Ages version of the original as well as read up on the other games in the series.
And now I have thoughts regarding this franchise and so must inflict them upon all of you. My apologies.
Tumblr media
(Janken Dance!)
The Origin of Alex Kidd
Alex Kidd is considered Sega’s second mascot, preceded by Opa Opa: A cute sentient spaceship that fights to protect to Fantasy Zone who is also a child soldier and traumatized by the events of the game up to and including killing his own father, the leader of the enemy forces.
Tumblr media
However, when Sega entered the home market and released the Mark III console (the basis for the Master System), they wanted a character that could stand against Mario.
Tumblr media
(Sega showing themselves to be the masters of subtlety)
Alex’s creation, funnily enough, mirrors that of his rival: Sega had intended to create a Dragon Ball video game, but were ultimately unable to secure the license. They decided to take what they had and turn it into a new character: Goku’s power pole was replaced by by Alex’s fists and his design eventually shifted to what would become Alex. With this in mind, the series’ chibi artstyle could very well be rooted in OG Dragon Ball and people have pointed out some of the remaining similarities on sites like The Site That Formerly Had The Blue Bird. One particular similarity is vehicles: Various Dragon Ball artworks had an emphasis on vehicles owing to Akira Toriyama’s fondness for them and Kotaro “Ossale” Hayoshida has a similar interest. Thus, the two main console Alex Kidd platformers feature the Peticopter and the Sukopako Motorcycle.
Tumblr media
Plot:
The Alex Kidd franchise is emblematic of Sega’s approach to storylines in their games and builds off of what Fantasy Zone did before, as well as setting a standard that the Sonic series would follow later.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World takes on the Planet Aries, which is invaded by a tyrant known as Janken the Great. At the time, Alex was an orphan who trained under a master named Saint Nubia and thus had no idea of Janken’s take over until he came across some citizens. Alex goes back to his master who reveals to him the truth: Alex himself is one of the two princes of the kingdom of Radaxian. The royal family has been in a tizzy as the king disappeared shortly before Janken’s take over with acting king, Prince Igul/Egul, being held captive in Radaxian Castle itself. Alex thus sets off to not only save his kingdom, but his family as well, using the technique of Shellcore; a style of martial arts that allows its users to embiggen their limbs (or at least, their hands).
It’s not the most original plot, nor is it really the first platformer to put such emphasis on plot (Maybe. I’m not sure.). Still, considering that Sega had eyed Alex as a potential rival to Mario, it’s interesting to see some degree of ambition here: The reveal of Alex being the prince of Radaxian is saved for a couple levels in. When Alex needs to get into a nearby kingdom after rescuing his brother, he has to collect a letter inside Radaxian Castle (in turn, rescuing his brother) or he’ll be turned away. Even after beating Janken, Alex still needs to reclaim the Crown of Radaxian that Janken was after. It gives a general context for why you’re going through the stages that’s a smidge more varied than usual. And then there’s something else that I’ll mention later.
Compare this with the Mario games, which generally had little plot: SMB1 had functionally no plot outside of a general premise, Mario 3′s only major plot development is saved for World 8 and while Super Mario World narrates prose after each Koopaling is defeated, it doesn’t really have any more of a significant plot as was seen in Super Mario Bros 3. Overall, Sega’s games would have more ambitious plotlines, with Sonic picking up where Alex left off and taking it to further and higher heights.
Gameplay
Alex Kidd in Miracle World is a simple platformer. Alex’s two primary actions at any given time are jumping and punching something with his enlarged fist. Aside from vehicles and temporarily from a certain powerup, Alex can only over take one hit before dying. Lose all of your lives and it’s game over... although, if you have enough money (and know of a certain code in the original game) you can purchase another continue. Levels in Miracle World tend to be short, so it’s not too bad to die in the game (although you do lose the Telepathy Ball on a game over and certain stages the jungle can be a pain to get through normally).
Stages in Alex Kidd tend to vary: sometimes they’re simple platforming stages. Other times, Alex can use a vehicle: The motorcycle is optional and can be purchased from the shop, the boat appears automatically and the Peticopter (a pedal-based Helicopter) varies. These vehicles can make getting through a stage a breeze, but they only have one hitpoint: In the case of the motorcycle or stages where Alex can purchase the Peticopter, Alex must brave the rest of the stage himself. In the cases where he starts in a vehicle, Alex will fall into a level underneath the play area and have to work from there. Lastly there are castle levels that are significantly more mazelike. There’s only two such levels in the game: Radaxian Castle and Janken’s Castle.
Powerups differ from Super Mario Bros as well. While you’ll occasionally find power ups (usually extra lives) scattered throughout Radaxia in marked boxes, you’ll mostly be getting them from shops that litter the world. These shops cost money, which you can find scattered all over the place. The powerups range from a barrier that makes Alex immune to enemy attacks at the cost of not allowing him to attack, a ball that can shoot mini clones of Alex at enemies and a magic rod that lets Alex hover in the air. One powerup that you can only get from item boxes is Death, who will promptly chase Alex until scrolled offscreen. Another is skull boxes which aren’t necessarily powerups so much as they stun Alex for a moment if he punches them. Lastly is the Telepathy ball, which may or may not be critical to winning at Jankenpon, depending on your knowledge anyway.
At the end of certain stages, Alex will run into one of Janken’s minions (excepting Janken’s Castle, where he runs into the big man himself) and will have to play Jankenpon (i.e. Rock-Paper-Scissors). It’s pretty much as you’d expect: Music plays, Alex can pick a hand to chose, when the music stops you play the hand. Best 2 out of 3 are the rules and if Alex loses, he dies. There are two general work arounds for Jankenpon. 1st: Getting the Telepathy Ball allows Alex to see his opponent’s thoughts and therefore get an idea of what they’re going to pick. This is less helpful as it sounds as the thoughts occur in real time and are constantly shifting, meaning the opponent can suddenly switch their hand at the last second, giving you only a split second to react. However, the Telepathy Ball does help with the second option: Janken and his minions have set patterns when it comes to Jankenpon. Thus, if you know the pattern, you can easily sweep the two rounds needed to progress. The issue is that the patterns change if Alex loses a round (i.e. if the opponent chose scissors and Alex loses, he won’t choose scissors next time). Still, one could theoretically puzzle out the winning hands and learn to choose them each time.
Boss battles are a very non-graceful affair. In the first encounters with Janken’s generals, they will die immediately after losing. In the second encounters, they will actually fight by means of detaching their heads and/or shooting projectiles. Since mercy invulnerability does not exist for enemies and Alex himself dies in one hit, boss fights usually end quickly. The absolute irony is that the easiest boss in the game is none other than the final one, Janken the Great himself: His primary attack is shooting a projectile, and the nature of how he shoots it means that Alex can stand right next to him and be at no risk. Perhaps it’s for the best that the actual final challenge is a more puzzle-oriented level.
Re-releases and Ports
Alex Kidd in Miracle World was never as widely re-released as it’s Genesis sequel. The original game remained Master System exclusive until it landed on the Wii’s Virtual Console. It eventually made it to the PS3 in 2012 as part of the Sega Vintage Collection (or Sega Ages Online) line. Today, the two options for playing Miracle World legitimately are the Switch-Exclusive Sega Ages release by M2 or the Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX remake.
Miracle World DX generally updates the graphics, adds some new stages and expands on the story somewhat (the major difference being that Alex himself now has dialogue and the first stage now takes the place of the Japanese manual’s storyline to explain how Alex learns about Janken). The game has a few QoL options that make the game easier (better controls, infinite lives and permanently having the telepathy ball) but I believe achievements are disabled if those options are turned on. Also, I’m not sure if it’s a glitch, but progress seems to be tied to the game state (i.e. if you decide to replay Mt. Eternal after finishing the game, the game will reset your progress to as if you started a fresh game at Mt. Eternal). On the other hand, the game has some neat little touches such as collectibles referencing both other Alex Kidd games (even including Enchanted Castle’s interesting boxart) and other Sega games in general, including Sonic or how the food Alex eats can be changed (in the original game the donut riceball was changed to a hamburger. The remake gives you the ability to toggle the change and even adds a few new ones). The game also allows the player to shift the artstyle to one closely matching the original Miracle World at the push of a button. The overall consensus is that if you like the original Miracle World, you’ll probably like the remake, but if you didn’t, then you won’t be won over either. The game is faithful, perhaps to a fault (and even then, there’s almost assuredly some mechanical differences that I do not know about).
The Sega Ages version is more of a remaster. In addition to Original Mode, which is what that name implies, Ages mode adds a new soundtrack based on the FM Sound Unit: An add-on for the Sega Master System which improved the audio capabilities and could lead to some stark differences between it and the more “bleep-bloop”-ish PSG audio (Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars would have support for the FM Sound Unit and is a good example of such differences). Ages mode also adds new illustrations at the start of each level (covering the map, which can still be seen on the pause screen) and adds a rewind function, which can make playing the game easier.
Later Games
The franchise after Miracle World went in some... odd directions.
Tumblr media
(Multiverse theory means that there is a timeline where “with STELLA” became as much of a meme as “& Knuckles”, “Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series” “New Funky Mode”, etc)
The first follow-up was Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars (With Stella), an arcade title released the same year as Miracle World, getting a port to the Master System two years later. I’d tell the plot here, but there’s a bit of an issue: While I cannot read Japanese, the little I’ve parsed through DeepL suggests that it varies much differently from the English plot. This was kind of a thing Sega did on occasion (see: Sonic CD). Regardless of which region, the overall plot is that a greedy star known as the Ziggurat (or the Bloom?) is going around absorbing other stars. Alex and his new ??? Stella must go out and find the Miracle Balls to restore the constellations of Planet Aries. In terms of gameplay, it’s a bog-standard run ‘n jump with bizarre visuals. Alex can’t even attack enemies without a specific power up.
Tumblr media
(Pictured: Sega of America’s depiction of Alex Kidd, which would remain consistent in terms of western covers until Shinobi World)
The second, more direct follow-up is Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle for the Sega Genesis. If Miracle World was a flawed, if somewhat interesting game, then Enchanted Castle says “you are like baby: watch this.”
Gameplaywise: Alex has a new jumping-kick move when he descends, which requires positioning as it’s not a traditional jump attack. The plot-related elements that Miracle World had are non-existent, being a straightforward platformer. Rather than being strictly a boss battle affair, Jankenpon is now necessary to buy anything in the stores (or rather, the one item they have on display) and speaking of, there is only one proper boss fight in the main villain Ashura. Every other “boss” is a bout of Jankenpon. Most damningly, movement is just as slippery as ever and Alex still dies in a single hit.
Then there’s the ending, which...
The plot of Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle is that Alex hears a tip that his father is on another planet... namely, the planet that Janken the Great from the previous game is from. Alex travels there and fights his way to a castle in the sky, where he encounters Ashura, Janken’s son (maybe?). After defeating him, Ashura runs into the next room where King Thor/Thunder is waiting, perfectly fine. As it turns out King Thor had never been taken prisoner; He was visiting Janbarik/Paperock and took Ashura as his servant. The End.
Tumblr media
(Alex’s Enchanted Castle design would go on to become the base for his modern design, albeit with some minor changes).
And here’s where the franchise gets weird.
Alex Kidd in Hi-Tech World was released for the Sega Master System the same year as Enchanted Castle. This one is interesting as it never released in Japan. Why? Because I lied: It did, but it wasn’t connected to Alex Kidd at all.
Tumblr media
Anmitsu Hime was a Japanese manga/anime about a tomboy princess getting into all sorts of antics. It got a licensed video game in 1987. About 2 years later, Sega of America decided to “SMB2″ it for... reasons I cannot fathom. The main character was replaced by Alex, the characters were changed to be legally distinct versions, and the objective was switched from reaching a cake shop to reaching Hi-Tech World to play some Sega games (meaning the title is technically a lie: Alex is in Hi-Tech World in the ending).
So if you were ever wondering why Radaxian Castle went from a European Castle to a Japanese castle, why Alex’s parents are suddenly overtly Japanese, why Alex is being attacked by ninjas, etc, that’s why.
And speaking of ninjas...
Tumblr media
(Alex is by everything as he contemplates the state of his franchise)
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World was the last Alex Kidd game originally released in 1990, just a year before his speedy blue understudy would enter the scene. The plot is simple: Alex’s girlfriend is kidnapped by the Dark Ninja. The White Ninja, deciding that Alex is a bad enough dude to rescue her, grants him ninja powers. And all of this takes place on Planet Shinobi.
This is a weird one.
Despite being made by Sega’s R&D 2, Shinobi World was never released in Japan. It was called “Shinobi Kid(d)” during development, raising questions of if it was ever intended to be an Alex Kidd-related game. The first boss was originally a parody of Mario. This game, overall, was the note this series ended on.
Apparently, it plays really well by virtue of being based on Shinobi, so a high note. Still pretty sad when you think about it.
There is one last game to talk about regarding the Alex Kidd franchise, but it isn’t a sequel. On the contrary, it predates the series and even afterwards, it’s not immediately clear how it fits.
Tumblr media
(Pitter Potter)
Pit Pot is a puzzle game, somewhat like Tower of Druaga. A knight, wielding a magical hammer, must save a princess who is trapped in the titular Castle Pit Pot by a witchsorceress. The knight, Igul, searches the castle for the three treasures he needs and succeeds in rescuing the princess.
But what does that have to do with Alex Kidd? Because Igul, the knight who’s the main character, is in fact the same Igul/Egul who is acting king of Radaxian, and the princess who is rescued after defeating Janken, Princess Lora/Rooney, is indeed the same princess that Igul rescued in Pit Pot. This is furthered by the Alex Kidd Complete Album release, which includes music from Pit Pot.
And Pit Pot, itself, is a sequel to an unreleased game called “Chain Pit”.
In any case, the Miracle World DX remake references this further The collectible for Radaxian Castle is given to Alex by the captain of the royal guard. The collectible in question? Igul’s hammer.
Other Appearances & Legacy
While never reaching the lows of say, Bubsy for example, Sega did have some fun poking at Alex’s failure to truly take off. Altered Beast has tombstones reading “Alex” and “Stella”, a reference to Lost Stars. Alex also featured in Segagaga, including a scene where he speaks with the main protagonist, Taroh, in order to convince him not to give up after he has been fired from Sega. Segagaga is a parody RPG of sorts, being one of the last games Sega made before exiting the console market (with the game itself reflecting the state they were in). With that in mind, the entire game takes on a bittersweet tone and Alex’s speech and reflection on his failure to catch on have a similar feeling, especially one scene that implies that Alex felt envious of Sonic (his replacement).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alex has also been a mainstay of the Sega Superstars/Sonic & All Stars brand since Superstars Tennis.  While the franchise in general never got a court or track, Alex himself still has a slew of references: His Superstar State in Tennis is based on Jankenpon from the two main console games while All Stars Racing features the Sukopako motorcycle as his standard vehicle and Peticopter as his All-Star move. Sega still finds use for Alex even today as a mascot for their early years, with the Sega Ages line on Nintendo Switch having Alex present the games. Alex also appeared in the back half of the Mega Man/Sonic Archie crossover Worlds Unite (i.e. Sega X Capcom, sadly not as exciting as you’d think).
Tumblr media
(But it still gave us stuff like this image)
And of course, the Miracle World remake, which started as a fan project.
Conclusion
So... why did I type up all of that?
I dunno. I feel like Alex Kidd is a series that had potential, but squandered it. Miracle World is decent, if flawed, but Enchanted Castle doesn’t fix (or even doubles down) on those issues. I haven’t played the other games yet but given what I’ve seen of Lost Stars and the nature of the other two games, I’m not keeping expectations high. I suppose I’m just lamenting what could’ve been with this charming little series after playing both versions of Miracle World.
Of course, we got Sonic from all of that. People can argue over how worth it it was considering the later games and the fanbase and etc, but overall probably the best call...
Alex’s future these days is no better or worse than it has been for years. A proper follow up game is as unlikely as it’s always been. “Ossale” has stated/joked that if he could make a modern day Alex Kidd, it would be a realistic first-person action game with a feeling similar to the movie, Shaolin Soccer.
Miracle World still has a fanbase, especially in regions such as Brazil where the Master System is fondly regarded. The game even has a modest fan-hacking scene: You won’t find anything on the level of, say, Sonic: The Next Level, but it’s still noteworthy. Full on fan-games are rarer, but SAGE 2023 did have someone make an “Alex Kidd CD” to imagine what Alex Kidd would be like on the Sega CD, so there’s that.
Will we ever see a fangame that reinvents Alex Kidd with a detail of quality comparable to the finer Sonic fan games? Probably not, but imagine if we did, and Alex and Stella got an adventure that endeared them to players.
It’d be a Miracle.

Final Major Project concepts
Concept #1
You are a bounty hunter that is requested to save the king after he got trapped in a mirror and shattered across the land. You must find all shards and piece the king back together and rescue him from the mirror world. It would play out as a side scrolling platformer where you hack and slash through enemies whilst doing some platforming. I will make sprites and animations for the characters as well as story boards.
Illusion, mirrors, reality, magic, monsters, witchcraft, alternate realities, mirror world
Super Mario 64
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In SM64 has most stages are accessed by jumping through paintings their respective paintings on walls. I would like for the levels in this game to be accessed in a similar way but maybe with mirrors instead.
youtube
Kirby & the Amazing Mirror
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want the game to have and open word like level design like AM. I want there to be areas only accessible trough the use of entering mirrors that lead to other mirrors or the mirror world itself.
youtube
Katana Zero
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want the story of my game to be laid out like Katana Zero's is. There would be a Scenes before and after the levels are completed and even different outcomes based on gameplay choices such as dialogue or items collected.
youtube
Concept #2
An adventurous young girl stumbles upon a suspicious well that she ends up falling into. After waking up in what seem to be an island in the middle of the ocean she is met with a witch whom seems to want to help her but that's far from the truth. You would be be in a open area unlocking more and more rooms as you progress all while encountering the witch and her creations. I will be making sprite sheets for characters and others assets as well as level design.
Illusion, magic witchcraft, witches, monsters, spells
Mad Father
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mad Father is one of my all-time favorite indie games despite only having it for about 2 months. It inspired me with its storytelling, art and gameplay to play more RPG maker games. I want to make my game something can be said to be similar to it in terms of story and artwork.
youtube
Witches House MV
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a lot of puzzles I this games with some being either easy and some being more complicated however I had fun solving each and every one of them when I played through it.
youtube
FNAF 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing I like about FNAF 4 is the minigames the games has you play after each night. I want my game to be split into chapters and I want all of them to have a minigame at the end.
youtube
Concept #3
A cave explorer finds an magic book that will teach them infinite knowledge and now has to traverse up the cavern to get to the surface. This ends up actually being a dream of a young boy representing his life in education. It would be a 2D platformer where each level is made of many "floors" that disappear with time if you don't move up quick. The game would be done in pixel art. I will make sprite sheets and animations for the characters and other objects.
Collisions, physics, collapse, mental health, dreams, illusions,
Celeste
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Celeste is spectacular game platforming wise. there are many instances of things that move as a reaction to the player coming into contact with them. I intend on making some similarly functioning floors and platforms in my game.
youtube
Sonic Mania
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2D Sonic level design tends to provide many pathways to the end goal so the player can always run through levels differently. All paths rewards players differently with either speed, more rings/powerups or a special zone entrance.
youtube
Super Mario World
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Super Mario World has good underground level design with many different enemies like the SpikeTop, Swooper or Blargg which are most common to the area.

Somewhat of an alternate cut of Blue, but with my own terrible, terrible headcanons front and center. Technically canon-compliant, although definitely not canon-intended.  Likes, reblogs, and comments both here and ao3 appreciated!
Again, this is shortly pre-issue 189.
Warnings: One-sided Sonourge.
Wordcount: 1025

Fiona was snuggled up against his chest, making cute little squeaks in her sleep. It was adorable, if he was honest, and he smiled, running his fingers through her hair. Her ears twitched and her muzzle nosed closer to the scars on his chest, legs intertwined with his and her loose sleep shorts the only barrier between them.
“Mmm...” She hummed and he laid back, content to just listen and feel the rumbling vibrations. He had the planet, he had a hot girlfriend who was a great fighter and adored him, he had banners with his face strung up all over. It was everything he’d ever wanted as a kid.
Green irises flashed as soon as his eyelids slid shut, though, and his eyes snapped back open with an accompanying groan as he draped a hand over them.
God dammit.
There was nothing wrong with admiring his own physique. He had a fantastic body, he wasn’t about to deny that. There was also nothing wrong with liking guys- he’d figured that out years ago. Why limit himself when there were hot people of all kinds?
This, though, was The Absolute Worst Thing.
He had everything he’d ever wanted, so why the fuck was he still thinking about his alternate self? How they tumbled over each other on the grass, perfect matches as their hands met and pushed back and forth, give and take, sweat slicking back fur and bruises like love bites. He’d felt more alive than he ever had as they raced against each other, kinetic chaos energy buzzing between them with every step, a perfect match. Sonic had sparked something, he was the reason he’d even conquered this planet- but that hadn’t been as exhilarating as tossing banter back and forth with an equal. Banter from lips he kind of wanted to-
His fingers tightened against Fiona’s pajama top as he stared up at the ceiling, the light just enough that he could see a pattern of cracks spiderwebbing across the stone.
Every time they’d directly tussled, Sonic had beaten him up. He could respect someone who presented an actual challenge. That wasn’t really the problem- it just made him more eager to go back at some point and prove he was better. The problem was that he was daydreaming about it even when he had a perfect life right here. He was King! Everyone who had half a brain bowed down, and those who didn’t got curbstomped, teeth ground out on the dirt! The world was under his control, the squad was under his control, and Fi technically was under his control too but she genuinely wanted to be there which was more than he got out of almost everyone else his entire goddamn life. He had no reason to be daydreaming about eyes that looked the same way his used to, but with a spark he’d never been able to find in the mirror.
He’d upgraded himself, left being a ‘Sonic’ behind. He was more, so why was his brain chasing after a version that he rightfully should have left in the dust? Sure, Blue was Prime, but Scourge had marked himself as more than an alternate by now. Caring about what another version of himself- he’d judge based off his past self, not by what the stupid zone cops thought- was weak, especially this version. Heroism only lead to pain and neglect, crumbling under a million voices that never managed to agree and devolved to infighting anyway. A version of himself that didn’t know that was still a child.
But he was somehow a child that won. Blue was loved and cared for, and Scourge hadn’t beaten him yet, despite his philosophy being childishly naïve. How had he lost to that?
It had to be because he’d fought more. Sonic’s life was spent fighting a genuinely threatening Kintobor- Robotnik, right. That was it- he just had more practice with opponents that actually challenged him. Scourge had stomped everyone with barely any resistance. Fighting robots and warlords with actual bite that went with their bark had honed Blue into a lean, mean, fighting machine, with those toned muscles and bright smirk, and that laugh that sounded so different and so familiar at the same time-
Fuck. There it went again. He scrubbed at his eyes, and Fiona’s tail flicked under the sheets as she stirred, rubbing at her eyes.
“Something wrong, babe?”
He still had Fiona, though. She’d seen that Scourge was better, had gotten out and made herself princess of the new world Scourge had created. That certainly wasn’t nothing.
If she’d seen the light... maybe...
“Nothin’.”
“Doesn’t look like nothing.” She traced her hand on his cheek, giving him a kiss.
“Would you ever wanna go back?”
“Hmm? You mean to Mobius?”
“Yeah.”
She thought for a moment before shaking her head. “Why would I want to? There’s nothing left for me there. I burnt all those bridges pretty well, and I like it here much better.” Her tail curled, wrapping around one of his legs. “Why? You thinking of going back for something?”
Blue had a pretty rough life, it seemed. There had to be some spark deep down in him that wanted to run away, just for a while. Be with an equal, not those cling-ons who couldn’t possibly be on his level. Someone like Scourge. He was so powerful, and he was just throwing it away.
If he could just find that one thing that might make him realize...
“A rematch might be fun.”
“Ooh.” She grinned, index finger stroking down his chest. “You’ve got more practice now, and I’d like to see that.”
“Two planets are better than one, right?”
“It’ll be more of a challenge than Moebius was, but I’ll bet you can do it.” She flicked playfully at the raised bump of the top scar. “I’ll have to figure out to how fit two crowns on at the same time.”
He grinned back, pulling her into a proper kiss. When she settled back down to sleep though, he still saw green eyes teasing him with fire and his fingers curled into fists around the sheets.

Sonic Villains: Sweet or Shite? - Part 14: SCOURGE
............
............
......Huh?
Tumblr media
Oh, hello there! My name's Lutrudis, pleased to meet you. Judging from that look of surprise on your face however, it's evident that you weren't looking for ME per say... What's that? You want to know what this is? Right, of course, my apologies.
Well, this is a mini-series belonging to... ahem, my creator, in which he goes into slightly more detail about his thoughts on the villains in Sonic's history, and why he thinks they either work well, or fall flat (or somewhere in-between). Usually he gives his stance on their designs, their personalities, and what they had to show for themselves in the game(s) they featured in. He also stresses that these are just his own personal thoughts, and that whether you agree or disagree, you're free to share your own thoughts and opinions.
Unfortunately, as you may have gathered, it seems he's a bit occupied for today, and is thus unable to do a review... is what I WOULD be saying if he didn't let me cover for him! That's right boys and girls, I'll be filling in for him today, by doing a little review of my own! Please forgive me if I prattle on for extended periods, but I sincerely hope my efforts in assessing the Wrong'un of the Week are of the utmost quality. Truth be told, it's kind of nerve-wracking, but I'm happy to give it my all for you guys. ❤️
So then, let's carry on with the show, shall we? Welcome to a new edition of Sweet or... Sour. Welcome to Sweet or Sour. Yes indeed, heh heh... (Is the creator's language normally this gratuitous? I hope Cream hasn't seen his posts...)
Anyhow, for today's review... well, this is quite interesting. Normally the creator prefers to keep his reviews focused on game-centric villains, but I guess he made an exception with this one. Today, we'll be directing our attention to a notorious copycat of our blue hero in the Archie continuity, and legendary connoisseur of 70's fashion: Scourge the Hedgehog.
Tumblr media
The Gist: Once upon a time, in the land of comics, there was a world known by all as Mobius. But there was also a parallel dimension called Anti-Mobius, or as it would later become known as, Moebius... one E makes all the difference, apparently. Anyway, in this dimension, everyone and everything that existed in Mobius had an identical equivalent in Anti-Mobius, but things operated a bit differently, in the sense that they were largely the opposite of what we were familiar with.
Putting aside the rather disturbing implication that this world might not have had any real will or independence if it existed purely to do the opposite of what Mobius did, this meant that it had a Sonic the Hedgehog of its very own, as well as a father to that Sonic. Sadly though, this Sonic's father was not that kind to him. In fact, he was said to be a rather poor excuse for a father, as evidenced by how he didn't give his son enough attention, and... oh, that's it.
How awful.
Tumblr media
I'd say his choice of attire is the real crime presented here.
Anti-Mobius in its original form experienced a period of Great Peace, but alas, it was not to last. It soon became a shadow of its former glory, which seemed prophetic in hindsight, as it was by this time that this world's Sonic the Hedgehog - Evil Sonic - murdered his own father in cold blood, and then threw his world's incarnation of King Maximilian Acorn into the Zone of Silence. He quickly became a dictator to the people of Anti-Mobius, with his only immediate opposition coming in the form of the kindhearted counterpart to Dr. Ivo Robotnik... or should that be Dr. Julian Robotnik, in this continuity...? Hmm, I suppose it doesn't matter anymore...
Naturally, the laws of the universe saw fit to correct this wrong. Just as water is wet, and fire is hot, Sonic gives evildoers a right kicking. And lo and behold, our magnificent hero did eventually meet his evil duplicate. The two were evenly matched in speed, but the good-natured Sonic triumphed regardless, possibly because he had more wittiness on his person.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Quality banter.
Evil Sonic later brought along the rest of his gang to aid him, who predictably mirrored Sonic's own band of Freedom Fighters. They were just as much of a match for our heroes, which is a polite way of saying they weren't. You really shouldn't expect anything exquisite when they looked like this.
Tumblr media
Maybe you should call your group something else then...
These parlor games went on for a while, with the status quo never truly changing. But then, after one final showdown with Sonic, the evil Robotnik of Mobius kicked the bucket, which among other things, inspired ANOTHER Robotnik to fill the void. This Robo-Robotnik took Evil Sonic along with him to commit many acts of dastardly intent, an act of generosity that proved to be tragically undermined by Evil Sonic getting caught and trapped by different people time and time again, to the point where even his old gang had long replaced him with a new leader. He did go on to escape the grasp of one Zonic the Zone Cop... only to later get arrested again by the same guy. So far, so adorably incompetent, right?
Still, he did bust out once more, and he proceeded to turn the overall universe into a glorified soap drama by pulling the moves on numerous ladies in Mobius, which in true Evil Sonic style, achieved precisely nothing of merit. Even after he briefly teamed up with Rouge the Bat, his luck persisted in not manifesting. But things were about to get even worse... for us. On a meta level, if you know what I mean.
After one final botched attempt at pointless thievery, with the Master Emerald being the prime target in this particular case, Evil Sonic's attempt to gain himself a super form was halted midway with great force by none other than Locke, the notorious father and attempted microwave murderer of Knuckles the Echidna. Rather than kill him however, all this did was change his fur to green, and leave him with some hardcore scars.
He promptly renamed himself Scourge. Because he's a real SCOURGE to good ideas, har har.
Tumblr media
New kid in town, do not steal.
With his first act of villainy as a new man tattering to pieces due to foolishly invoking the wrath of Shadow the Hedgehog, he soon crossed paths with Dr. Finitevus, an albino echidna who otherwise looked exactly like Knuckles (good heavens, how many of these can one muster?), and spent some time on his side by aiding a new gang of lovely gentlemen called the Destructix. Together, these functioning psychopaths committed more mindless evil.
He also managed to swoon over Fiona Fox to his side, a miraculous modicum of success considering you need some sort of charm to be able to do that, of which Scourge has shown nil. I'm hardly an expert on dishing out romantic advice, but I'm willing to bet there's plenty of superior fish in the sea, Fiona...
Tumblr media
How about “Oh my god, did I seriously die to THESE losers?”
Eventually, Scourge and Fiona broke away from Finitevus' allegiance after the deadly and boring Enerjak was unleashed on Mobius. He returned to Anti-Mobius, and it turned out that any repairs made since the last time he was king didn't amount to anything substantial, because he went and conquered the entire land all over again. Rechristening his old gang as the Suppression Squad, he continued Being Evil™ some more, until the aforementioned Suppression Squad betrayed him for constantly being abhorrent to them, which led to him being stuck with Rosy the Rascal for a while, yet another shameful derivative of a close friend.
In his last days, at long last, he finally achieved a super form with the power of an Anarchy Beryl... only to get soundly thrashed once again, get thrown in prison, and then just when it seemed he'd be back in business, he got wiped out by the Genesis Wave. Tch, Mondays, am I right?
As you can tell from my words alone, let alone in an extremely abridged format, he did a fair amount over the years... and yet at the same time, when you really think about it, he ultimately did so very little.
Oh, and there was also a Metal Scourge at one point. I'm aware that the man who made him has never been all there in the head, but I still find myself questioning why he saw fit to go through with this nonsense.
Tumblr media
I shouldn't need to say this, but that's a disgrace to the hostile Eggman robot that I know and detest.
The Design: Well, he started off as a Sonic, so it's to be expected that he'd look exactly like the lovable goof. Since this was ~Evil~ Sonic though, he was determined to remind us at all times that Grease was in fact the word.
Tumblr media
~You're the one I don't want, you're not the one for, no-ho-ho, honey~
Then he turned green, and... yeah, he turned green. All I can say, really.
Tumblr media
Please excuse me, I'm utterly beside myself with amazement.
It doesn't quite strike the imaginative chords, needless to say. And neither does his super state, which... I'm sorry, it's not normally my cup of tea to chide others for their appearance, but just look at this tripe for a moment.
Tumblr media
No, I don't think I will.
When you combine his already ridiculous self with black eyes and a tiara... what exactly is the intent here? Am I supposed to be intimidated by this display?
Keep this between us if you can, but personally, I'm more intimidated by staircases than I am by this fiend.
The Personality: You would think that since a Sonic is a Sonic, Scourge would share a lot of his personality with our Sonic. And that is true... in the most superficial sense possible.
Sure, he's jovial, cocky, and prone to moments of overconfidence, which is enough to sound very familiar to us on paper. Beyond that however, that's all they really have in common beside their appearance. In every other category, you could argue that Scourge is the exact opposite of Sonic.
For instance, whereas Sonic is supremely loyal to his friends (trust me, I’m grateful to know!), Scourge treats his gang like fetid garbage, and that's when he's not outright abandoning them, neglecting them, and putting them in danger. Likewise, whereas Sonic is a blue bundle of bravery no matter the odds, Scourge is a poor little chicken when the going gets tough, despite all his ramblings about being Sonic's full potential.
This means that for all the acclaim he receives as Sonic's evil doppelganger... he shares very few similarities with who he's replicating. He's barely any different from all the other ruffians that Sonic faces, so what point is there to him being a Sonic at all? If he had a different name and design entirely, what would honestly be lost in translation?
But then, maybe he would just become Mephiles the Dark instead.
Or Mimic the Octopus instead.
Or Eggman Nega instead.
Or Ken Penders instead.
Or... sheesh, they all kind of blend together after a while, don’t they?
The Execution: If my general tone has thus far not been enough of an obvious indication, I do not rank Scourge with any particular favouritism when it comes to Sonic's rogue gallery.
Mind you, ANYONE who threatens our world and tries to kill my friends is nothing but rancid at their core, and as long as they remain unrepentant, I would never support any of them. Asking me which dangerous maniac is “the best” is like asking me which sewage stinks the least, after all. But even I can understand that there's a right way to do bad, and a wrong way to do bad. Scourge, Evil Sonic, whatever you wish to call him, falls squarely into the latter category.
Tumblr media
How I'd love to shove an arrow up His Majesty's rear end.
First of all, his motivations were poorly structured, and that's putting it tactfully. Most of the time, we're led to assume that he does evil for no other reason than because it's evil, so we're already not looking at masterpiece material. But as it turns out, as I mentioned way earlier on, he grew resentful of his father for not giving him as much attention as he felt he deserved.
So when he killed his dear old dad, and went on to do everything else to bitterly stick it to his dad's memory, we're supposed to... sympathise...? Understand his point of view, perhaps...?
Well, I dare say I'll be sticking my nose up to THAT presumption, because there is no pathos to be had here. None at all. It's just a selfish brat becoming a violent and murderous selfish brat, and nothing more. By doing everything for evil's sake, intertwined with this sorry excuse of a tragic backstory, it's as if he's trying to have the best of both villainous worlds, without understanding what makes either of them work.
Secondly, for what little success that Scourge actually had to his name, few of them were by his own hand so to speak. As much as it pains me to give Dr. Eggman even a veneer of kudos, it does require mentioning that for all of the doctor's contemptible attributes, he truly is single-handedly responsible for a great majority of his own... achievements, if you wish to call them such. By contrast, this stinker rarely worked for his moments, instead often relying solely on others to get anything done efficiently, whether it be Fiona, Finitevus, his gangs, or the Anarchy Beryl. Without them, Scourge was always nothing.
Thirdly, as mentioned, he failed to fulfill even the basic concept of what Sonic would be like if he became evil, since he has virtually nothing in common with the hero he's trying so desperately to present himself as the corrupted counterpart to. While I'd obviously prefer not to entertain the mere notion of an evil Sonic anyways, since I know deep in my heart that he would never go down that path, I know him well enough to reasonably assume that even if he did lose his way, he would still be recognisable in some capacity, since there are countless aspects to his personality that remain so... inherent to how his mind operates.
I guess what I'm saying is that if an evil Sonic came to be, he would exist as a darker mirror of how Sonic actually is, and not... something that is not at all like Sonic beyond the physical.
Tumblr media
What's the matter? Not used to a horse seeing you for what you really are?
Finally, remember when I said he was considerably more cowardly than Sonic? I wasn't simply referring to life or death battles and similar heat of the moment situations. Even when the scenario is of lower intensity, when the odds are completely in his favor at that, Scourge proves himself to be what Sonic isn't. Remember when he broke into the house of Sonic's father, with the intent to intimidate and kill said father... only to be scolded into submission by him? We're expected to believe this guy is a big baddie who ranks high in threat level, yet getting a telling off is sufficient enough to shoo him away?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If only Eggman was this easy to deal with...
Now granted, it's to my understanding that all of Scourge's failings are occasionally explained as him being a parody character. But, and correct me if I'm wrong here... aren't parodies supposed to be, you know, parodic, even if done subtly? As opposed to being played completely straight with no trace of irony, which is exactly how Scourge was portrayed throughout the entire duration of the comic's run, with no exceptions whatsoever?
Despite how often the comic insisted otherwise, and despite how often he received it, Scourge was not a villain who warranted importance. He was not a master planner, or a legendary conquerer, or a malevolent force of nature. He was bottom of the barrel, a wannabe at best, who thought he was made for bigger stripes, but remained little more than a walking pile of fresh manure, with nothing to show for it till the very end. His credibility was often alluded to, and handed to him, but never in any stretch was it properly earned. A punk who occasionally got lucky is hardly worth the rank of arch-fiend, in my humble opinion. He was a disgrace who simply had the luxury of wearing Sonic's skin to mask his shortcomings, and I can’t say I’m crestfallen to see him go.
And quite frankly, anyone who impersonates Sonic in the first place reeks to high heaven anyway. To think this trash heap thought he could ever compare in the slightest to my darling... Oh goodness, did I say that out loud?
Lutrudis Gives Scourge a: Thumbs Down!

8 New Dragon Species!
Draconic Snapping Turtle:
Large wingless dragon that have the appearance of gargantuan snapping turtles with thick plated shells & tails. They are typically adorned in moss to blend in with the bed of lakes, rivers, and ponds that they dwell in. They are patient and forceful hunters that lurk near the bottom of freshwater sources. They use their fire breath weapon to keep their territory warm enough to their liking and to boil alive any trespassing creature or prey to prevent escape.
They are solitary creatures that live to hunt and defend their territory. Draconic Snapping Turtles are fairly neutral and will let trespassers explore their territory as long as they present an offering and don’t anger the dragon. They are one of the few dragon species that court for life. This is due to the fact they don’t like to leave their territory and hate trespassers. Once a male reaches age he will go on a journey to find a mate and move into her territory for life.
Despite the two being different species Draconic Snapping Turtles can become soul mates with Draegators. The pair cannot produce offspring but will share their territory and horde. Both of these dragons prefer to items such as skulls, weaponry, and armory of fallen foes in underwater tunnels and caves they dig.
Draegator:
Gigantic wingless dragon that look similar to alligators covered in thick plates and chain spikes. They live in rivers, lakes, & swamps. Unlike alligator they are extremely agile and fast, this is due to their extra set of legs and longer bodies. They prefer to swim right below the surface of water and pull down any creature that swims through their territory.
Dracegators are solitary creatures that only enjoy fighting off intruders. If a trespasser is too weak to satisfy the dragon’s need for battle the dragon will allow their foe to leave unless they haven’t hunted in a while and need to feast. If the creature puts up a worthy fight the dragon may give the creature one of the weakest items from its horde if the creature vows to return and fight again when stronger.
Draegators only mate when in season and do not allow others draegators to stay in their territory outside of mating purposes. However, draegators will allow any creature it declares its soul mate to stay in its territory.
Dragoon Angler:
Medium sized wingless dragons with 4 tentacles that are apprehensive, long skinny forearms with hooks, serpentine body, stubby eel head with needle-like angle fangs, and bumpy warts are the entire body that are luminescent. This creature lives in the twilight zone of the ocean and deeper on the sea bed, open ocean, and underwater volcanoes. They are silent stalkers of the depths that use their hypnotic patterns and acid breath weapon to lure and take down their prey.
These dragons enjoy inflicting fear and pain in their prey more than anything. They greatly enjoy feeling more powerful and fierce than other creatures. They are purely savage and use inedible gore from their best kills for their horde: skulls, spines, & other types of bones. They find either caves or stone formations to put their horde in.
Dragoon Anglers don’t necessarily hate other creatures but more see them as play them to inflict their violent hobbies and desires onto. These thoughts do not exclude their own species. However, they do recognize their own species and play fight - which is still violent but not deadly or scary - instead of torturing each other like they do with other species. If a Dragoon Angler finds a playmate it thought was very fun they will court for about a decade then leave to find a new play mate. When they find a play mate the pair will hunt together and share any finding, but they still live separately. If a playmate dies the mate will find the killer and bring the copse back to the horde as a trophy - despite how hungry the dragon will not eat the killer of its playmate.
Dune Wraith:
Massive wingless dragons with a flat and long body covered in gigantic flat plates on the back with a smooth underbelly. They use their flat bodies to burrow under the sand and ambush prey. They use their sonic breath weapon and sand controlling abilities to create controlled sandstorms.
Dune wraiths are calm and regal dragons that are amused by humanoids and other small creatures. They enjoy forging castles and fortresses out of sandstone and making luscious gardens and oasis. They find enjoyment in building and amusing mortals by helping them with inconvenient things. Dune wraiths like to keep trinkets given or left behind by small creatures like humanoids: pictures, pet collars, wedding/promise rings, lockets, recipe books, & other items of sentimental value.
Dune wraiths will court until their offspring are mature. Dune wraith only keep soul mates in their fortresses outside of mating. Dune wraiths typically don’t become soul mates with their own species since they find other dune wraiths bland to live with. Often dune wraiths will allow humanoids and weaker dragon species to live in their creations as long as they honor the dragon.
Koi Dragon:
Tiny dragons that have catfish shaped bodies and whiskers and koi fish colors. They also have fins similar to koi fish and 2 sets of small wings that flap violently like a bug’s wings. They have the ability to control small amount of water and ice breath weapon.
Koi dragons are calm and curious dragons that love decorating their territory with their horde and seeing new creatures and objects. They are peaceful creatures that do everything they can to protect the creatures in their territory. Koi dragons become very sad if the creatures in their territory are killed or harmed by outsiders. If the dragon loses a creature or part of the terrain to an outsider they will become depressed. Koi dragons are quite gullible and become sad if they find someone has tried to take advantage of them.
They stay in small groups of either familial and friendly bonds. They also like to keep very pretty flowers, berries, stones, & feathers as loot. They like to take this loot and put it in small displays across their territory. When these dragons mate one of the mates will join their new group and raise offspring among the group. For koi dragons it is seem as the responsibility of the whole group to raise the offspring.
Makodar:
A giant dragon with a long agile body, smooth leathery skin, and large spiked dorsal fins. They live in the ocean in: shores, coral reef, kelp forests, & sea beds. They are able to control large amounts of water and use their sonic breath weapon.
Makodar feel as though they are the king/queen of their territory and any who enter should either obey to their demands willingly or be slaughtered for disrespect. Makodar hate having any competition in their territory and will chase out or kill younger dragons, strong humanoids, or strong creatures to prevent being usurped as the mot powerful creature in their territory. They prefer have artifacts of great power or value to flaunt their power. Makodar will bend powerful weapons and armor into jewelry to display their power. Any items the dragon cannot turn into jewelry it will make into a bed that it will rest upon.
Since Makodar hate competition they will in a area outside of both dragon’s territories. The stronger dragon will raise the offspring, but once the offspring is strong enough to hunter they will be chased out of the territory to avoid becoming competition. Makodar are hesitant to have a soul mate, but will only have a soul mate on the grounds the mate is weaker and obedience to them.
Nonokor:
Medium skinny dragons with long necks and tail cover in quills that live in the harsh deserts. They can expand their neck to cause the quills to stick out - the quills on their tail will also stick out when they do this. If they stick out their quills they can choose to shoot them out into nearby creatures - they need to take a long rest to regrow the quills. They have fire breath weapon.
Nonokor are very playful and mischievous creatures that live in small groups of either siblings or friends. The group always make sure to ensure that every member eats or drinks despite how little it may be. If the pack catches more than they need they will go to groups or nearby creatures and give them the food. Sometime when packs cross they will engage in play sessions and will even do this with humanoid groups if the humanoids are non-hostile.
Nonokors have flings during mating season and keep the offspring safe at the lair until they can join the hunt. Often these dragons will guard the lair and play with dune wraiths or act as the steeds for catfolk. Since these dragons love company so much it is difficult for them to deal with loss and death.
Zephrok:
Massive dragon with long slender bodies, a feather crown, & feathery wings. They live among the clouds overlooking the weather and skies. They are able to control clouds and summon lighting alongside their radiant breath weapon.
Zephrok are very regal and are very stern - they are especially stern about creatures needing permission to enter their territory. They are fairly neutral and will give creatures the option of leaving, but will force any creature out of it’s lair by violence if the creature will not abide. The dragon will allow uninvited guests if they have business the dragon is interested in. Zephroks like hearing about worldly affairs, creatures/people of significance, new technology, and impressive media (books, games, art, etc). However, once this business is done they will press for the creature(s) to leave. These dragons like to keep objects such as books, maps, games, art, music, jewelry, hats, mirrors, or clocks as treasure. They are very interested in things people make, but won’t accept every item since each zephrok has it’s own taste.
Zephrok will court in a professional manner. They will court until the offspring are old enough to leave the lair. Zephroks will give permission for creatures to enter their territory for a short amount of time if they calmly wait outside and ask for permission. Zephroks will keep soul mate of any creature. Despite how distant a zephrok may seem it will defend its soul mate to the death.

Autism Acceptance Month 2021
April 27th: What is your favourite form of media? For example, do you enjoy books? What format do you prefer for books (physical, e-book, audiobook)? Did you love reading as a kid but find it challenging as you got older? How about movies, tv, or video games? Do you have a favourite series?
I can't really choose one favorite form of media, they're all so good! I love books, movies, and cartoons! In terms of books, I love reading anything that is in the horror/mystery genre. I personally love R.L Stine, Stephen King, Lemony Snicket, Edgar Allan Poe, Lovecraft, and others. In terms of format, I personally enjoy physical books. I've made myself quite the small library and I like the way it is. But of course, I'm always looking to expand my library. If it's not in the horror genre, I also like books on astronomy, animals, (especially owls and large cats), and of course witchcraft books. I don't find reading challenging in the slightest, as I've been reading ever since I was of age to do so. I mean of course I do sometimes have trouble with sticking to one book at a time, so I often find myself jumping from book to book as I'm in the middle of reading another. I also sometimes have to read sentences again to understand it, (only sometimes though). Other than that, I don't have problems understanding the material in the books. Oh boy, movies, I mostly enjoy Disney movies, Pixar movies, and scary movies. For Disney, my favorite movie is Wreck it Ralph (which is the best movie, change my  mind), Tangled, The Princess and the Frog. I also like Meet the Robinsons, and Bolt too. Pixar, I like Coco, all three Toy Story movies, Monsters Inc, Inside Out, and Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. Scary movies I love are The Nightmare on Elm Street, The Descent, Child's Play, Happy Death Day, It, The Thing, and others.
For TV shows, there's a lot I like. For example, I like The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Amphibia, Avatar; The Last Airbender, Big City Greens, Tangled The Series, Ducktales, Spongebob, My Little Pony, Miraculous Ladybug, Villainous, Ghost Adventures,The Twilight Zone (both the classic and the recent) Impractical Jokers, The Simpsons, Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and a little bit of The Loud House.
In terms of video games, I grew up with the Super Mario games, so I love Super Mario games. I'm also into sonic as well, but not too much as I grew up with the Mario characters, but I enjoy them too. In video games I own, I have both Super Mario Galaxy games, Super Mario 64 DS,  Mario Kart wii, Mario Party 8, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a few Just Dance games, Wii Sports, Call of Duty Black Ops, and one Sonic game, which is Sonic Colors, and last but certainly not least, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, and Super Mario Advance.

RDR Essentials - Experimental (2/3)
Tumblr media
RDR Essentials is a weekly newsletter of alternating genres that outlines key releases of the past month, upcoming events around Seattle and happenings in the specified music genre.
Made in collaboration between Rainy Dawg DJs and the Music Director.
Releases:
The Body - I’ve Seen All I Need to See
Tumblr media
The Body is an incredibly busy band. While they have an extensive back catalogue of solo albums, they have filled their discography with collaborative albums with various different outfits, Thou, Full of Hell, and Uniform. While their sound which was established on their early solo records has developed vastly due to these collabs, their newest solo album, I’ve Seen All I Need To See, is a notable return to form. It aesthetically compares nicely to their 2014 release I Shall Die Here in these regards, due to the darkness in tone, with low frequencies boosted and high ones muffled. What is notably new on this release is the sheer level of distortion; This is the most distorted album The Body have ever released - and I know that is saying a lot. The distortion is sculpted in a way where at times it sounds like it is clipping, or about to blow out the amps it is being played through. This is combined excellently with sharp cutoff silences in the first track “A Lament”, giving you an uneasy feeling of an aux cord being ripped out of a computer playing sound. It is also great to hear this type of distortion equally applied to the drums as it is to the guitar and electronic processing. While we hear plenty of Chip King’s signature shrieking, he does change up his vocal technique more than we’ve seen before on this release, with some more mid-low range screams, such as on the track “They Are Coming”. In closing, this is an album The Body Fans and extreme music fans will enjoy. It is terrifying music, but in as pleasant a sense that terrifying can be.
- Joe Krycia
Lionmilk - I Hope You Are Well
Tumblr media
I Hope You Are Well was released on Leaving Records by jazz pianist, producer, and composer Moki Kawaguchi, aka Lionmilk. Sonically, the record is full of colorful twists and turns that could only come from an experienced jazz musician. I Hope You Are Well is a veritable jungle of detuned synths, bright keys, and low-passed pianos that create textures you could practically float on.
My favorite track, Made It This Far, also happens to be the only track with any sort of drums, giving it a sense of structure. Something about the way the chords and the bass move on this cut made it the most emotionally resonant. The rest of the record, lacking drums and subsequently a steady rhythm, feel as though you are suspended in animation. This dissociative-ness is prominent in “Great Mother in the Sky”, whose layered synths make it feel as if you were floating through an earth-like world in technicolor. If you are looking for a record to relax to, look no further than Lionmilk’s newest release.
-Chris Carroll
Lillian Doyle - Legends
Tumblr media
Legends is the first EP from poet and ambient artist Lillian Doyle, a spoken word album atop deep, comforting rumbles and lush field recordings. Doyle’s voice is patient and curious, reflecting on themes of nature and the self. Her echoing prose focuses on time spent soaking up the horizon near a shallow East coast tide. If I learned anything from my two semesters of bio, it’s that the intertidal zone is one of the most genetically diverse biomes and this record has a few references to those tiny sea critters that populate it.
“Not Pieces: Thoughts on the Bay” takes us on a walk through a knee deep tide while eloquently reflecting on the scenery, comparing it to joyful past memories. Halfway through the song, the shimmering sounds are accompanied by a soothing wave of synths that add a layer depth to Doyle’s poetry.
“Fecund With Promise” is an introspective look at hope and human intuition. This track also contains my favorite line in the whole project, “premises are why, and conclusions are what”. While I’m not entirely sure what it means, I know that it’s deep as hell. Legends is available on cassette with accompanying poetry book at the YNTS records online store.
- Chris Carroll
The Humbugs - Now That’s What I Call One Hum Wonders
Tumblr media
Let’s face it- singing is for the elites. Not all are gifted with the ability to sing, or like the Bourgeois, can afford to overpay producers to mask their children’s voices with studio wizardry so it is suitable for release to the masses. However, Arlington based outfit The Humbugs have given the proletariat the rallying cry to seize the means of music production from the singing elites: humming music. Yes, humming, that action that every person is equally able to do, has replaced singing on this latest release, filled with populist- friendly covers of some timeless classics “A Thousand Hums” stands out as particularly intimate and vulnerable in both performance and arrangement. A must play at parties. When the revolution begins- will you hum??
- Joe
Kosei Fukuda - 流転 陽・RUTEN +
Tumblr media
Kosei Fukuda’s latest full length project 流転 陽・RUTEN + is the second installment of the Berlin-based artist’s double LP, following the release of 流転 陰・RUTEN - earlier in 2020. Fukuda effortlessly combines elements of techno, ambient, downtempo, and drone, resulting in a collection of tracks that could both turn you out on the dancefloor and serve as the soundtrack to a jungle reverie in the Apichatpong Weerasethakul cinematic universe. Occasionally, recognizable club patterns appear over layers of familiar earthly recordings and eerie, artificial, otherworldly sounds. Reminiscent of Fukuda’s previous string of experimental EPs, each track on 流転 陽・RUTEN + is highly complex and rewards repeated listening. Last night I listened to this album wearing a 60-inch black wig while staring at myself in the mirror, which felt correct. Tonight I might try listening to it while sucking on a popsicle and thinking about Sissy Spacek. Tomorrow - who knows? The possibilities are endless.
- Ricky Graham

Lana Del Rey: Read NME’s exclusive interview with the modern icon. Lana Del Rey’s new album ‘Lust For Life’ is her most ambitious yet. Mike Williams meets her in the city that inspires her the most, Los Angeles – a place, she says, that “enhances something in me that’s already cooking” – to talk about music, happiness and witchcraft. Interview by Mike Williams. Photography by Neil Krug. It will surprise no one to learn that Dr Dre has very good speakers in his studio. And when I say very good, I don’t mean very good in a pricey and popular headphones kind of way. I mean very good in a “holy s**t, I can hear every individual speck of space dust in this galactic wall of sound” kind of way. It’s how we would all listen to music if we were billionaire music industry moguls. Dre has given us permission to use his Santa Monica studio – across the road from the legendary Interscope Records – to hear ‘Lust For Life’, the latest Lana Del Rey album, for the first time. The inside of the studio is clad with expensive-looking wood. The lights are seductively dimmed. It looks both like Don Draper’s office and the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. There’s a bubbling lava lamp next to a Bruce Lee lampshade on top of the main desk. The drinking water is perfectly cool. It’s totally LA. It’s a fitting place to listen to Del Rey’s coming-of-age record. Huge in scale in every sense – sonically, vocally, thematically – it’s the culmination of two years of relentless work. Writing, editing, discarding, rewriting, tinkering, erasing, rebuilding. As she’ll tell me the following day: “I kind of felt when I started I was going to be in this whole new zone when I was done, a whole new space. I’m really proud that there’s a shift in tone, a shift in perspective. There’s a bit of reflectiveness on what I’m seeing and it’s integrated with how I’m feeling. Normally I’m just, ‘Let me just put this all out there,’ and then I’m really surprised when people are like, ‘You’re f**king crazy.’”
Del Rey has been Interscope labelmates with Dre since October 2011, when she bought herself out of her contract with 5 Points Records, where she’d toyed with different identities and different sounds. Six months earlier, she’d become an overnight star when her aesthetic clicked and she released her debut single proper, ‘Video Games’. In the space of three acclaimed albums (2012’s ‘Born To Die’, 2014’s ‘Ultraviolence’ and 2015’s ‘Honeymoon’) she’s gone from lo-fi internet queen to fully formed Hollywood superstar. And now she doesn’t just have the songs – they’ve been there since the first day Lizzy Grant looked in the mirror and Lana Del Rey winked back – but also the production, the ambition, the pulling power and the brass balls to make ‘Lust For Life’. I hear nine tracks through the big speakers – ‘Love’, ‘Lust For Life’ (Ft. The Weeknd), ’13 Beaches’, ‘Cherry’, ‘White Mustang’, ‘Groupie Love’ (Ft. A$AP Rocky), ‘Coachella – Woodstock In My Mind’, ‘Beautiful People Beautiful Problems’ (Ft. Stevie Nicks) and ‘Tomorrow Never Came’ (Ft. Sean Ono Lennon) – before driving up to a rooftop bar in Hollywood to order drinks from wannabe film stars and looking up towards the hills to meditate on what I’ve just heard. Shoo-wops, doo-wops, wall of sound production; tender moments, angry moments; sex, cars, uncertainties; opulent LA life. If you squint, you can see the famous Hollywood sign in the distance. If you close your eyes you can see Del Rey looking out from her window right inside the middle of the H. The next day we’re in a different studio in a different part of town, this one belonging to Del Rey’s longtime collaborator and producer Rick Nowels. He greets us at the door with a massive grin and ushers us into the main room where the album was recorded. It’s untidy, in a warm and homely way. He wants to know what we think of the record. He’s excited to talk about it. Nowels is a 57-year-old music industry legend who’s worked with Madonna, Tupac, Stevie Nicks and more, but it’s obvious that there’s a particular space in his head and his heart reserved for Del Rey, who he repeatedly describes as “special” and “remarkable”. Del Rey arrives. She’s wearing a crocheted T-shirt and jeans. We sit down in a side room and both press record on our phones. There’s a book about Manson Family victim Sharon Tate on the table that neither of us notices until after the interview is over. I ask her if she’s as happy as she looks on the cover of the new album. “Yeah…” she says. “That was my goal, you know, to get to that place of feeling like in my daily life I had a lot of momentum. Like a moving-on-ness from wherever that other place was that ‘Honeymoon’ and ‘Ultraviolence’ came from. I loved those records, but I felt a little stuck in the same spot.” How did she move on? “I just felt a little more present. Writing a song like ‘13 Beaches’ – it’s a little bit of an abstract notion, but for me it took stopping at 13 beaches one hot day to find one that nobody was at. And I just thought, you know, the concept of needing to find 13 beaches might seem like a luxury problem for someone, but that’s OK, I’m going to go with that.” It’s a key song on the album. Her voice has never sounded bigger or more emotional. “I usually do things in a few takes,” she says, “but I took a lot of takes to do that. The mood that I needed to convey was better than what I was doing. I knew it was important that I came in straight as an arrow with that one. I always feel like I’m creating a new path when I’m doing a song.” Writing, editing, discarding, rewriting, tinkering, erasing, rebuilding. Not that Lana Del Rey has been completely reinvented on ‘Lust For Life’. The title track, the first of five collaborations on the album (no previous LDR album had ever featured a guest artist), may not come from the melancholic cool world of ‘Video Games’ or ‘Terrence Loves You’, but it’s just as nostalgic. Nostalgia can be sad and nostalgia can be happy, and at her best – and let me put it out there, I think this song could be her absolute best ever – Del Rey taps both at once. Does she agree? “I’m thinking about that. It goes in line with how I thought I was going to be in this more grown-up zone [writing this record], but actually I’m still somewhere right in the middle. When I think of that song I think of nighttime and this idea of, I don’t know, breaking into somewhere and carving up and kissing. That’s fun for me; like the place where I’m not 100 per cent in something really solid relationship-wise, where you’re still going out and meeting new people and all that stuff. And also, this Hollywood-centric environment is still an important thing that gives me life, being in town and the characters and the constant heatwave. It’s a little bit of a cliché – I totally get it; but I still feel like it enhances something in me that’s already cooking.” Hollywood and the sunshine can be quite an intoxicating cocktail really, can’t it? “It can. I’m naturally a careful person, so I like that the ambience… I wouldn’t go out and take a cocktail of pills or whatever, you know, but there’s something about the vibe of just being around that gives me a heightened feeling.” The biggest deal collaboration on the album is the duet with Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks. Del Rey says hearing her vocal takes made her re-evaluate her own tone. She was convinced Nicks would turn her down. She still speaks about it with a look of happy disbelief that it actually happened. But the most interesting duet is actually with the person who is, in their own personal right, the least famous and accomplished of everyone on the record, but by virtue of his surname, the most fascinating. “I’m a huge, huge John Lennon fan,” she says. “I didn’t know [his son] Sean. I got his number from my manager, who called his manager. I kind of was nervous about what he was going to say. I FaceTimed him – he was amazing. He was very excited.” The result is the sweetest song on the album, a tender folky ballad that gently taps through the fourth wall as they reference John and Yoko, then Del Rey sings, “Isn’t life crazy now that I’m singing with Sean”. There’s a story that goes with the song, where Del Rey calls up Lennon to tell him that she thought his part was perfect, and he says that he’s so happy because no one’s ever said that to him before. He’s John Lennon’s son, he’s lived his entire life in his father’s shadow, and Lana Del Rey has just given him his greatest ever compliment. There’s a tragedy in that, don’t you think? “Absolutely. It’s why I think it’s more than just a song for him – for both of us. He’s sensitive, you know. I assume that’s from his father and I think he would probably say that it’s been… some of his reviews have been difficult. I thought that was one of those moments on the record where it was a little bit of a ‘bigger than us’ moment. I told him, ‘I’m the one who’s honoured, I’m the lucky one; so I just want you to remember that, Sean, I’m singing with you.’” The interview goes off in lots of different directions. We talk about hanging in LA with Alex Turner and Miles Kane (“I randomly see Alex. I’ve been working with Miles”); about her deep friendship with Courtney Love (“I can call, and probably just ’cause she’s done so much crazy s**t, I can tell her something very weird and she’ll be like, ‘Been there, done that’”); her love of Kurt Cobain (“top influence other than Bob Dylan”); people watching (“I’m a weird observer”); detective novelist Raymond Chandler (“I’m a big fan, I love The Big Sleep”); and Californian independence (“I’m a proponent of keeping the country together, but it’s so its own zone it may as well be a different country.”) We end by talking about magic and the power of words. Firstly, Donald Trump. He’s still the president, which means that the hex Del Rey asked her Twitter followers to cast on February 24 hasn’t worked (yet). So did she get involved and do it herself? “Yeah, I did it. Why not? Look, I do a lot of s**t.” Do you cast other spells at home? “I’m in line with Yoko and John and the belief that there’s a power to the vibration of a thought. Your thoughts are very powerful things and they become words, and words become actions, and actions lead to physical changes.” The quirky video trailer that you did for the album (a magical Lana looking down on LA from her home in the Hollywood H, ruminating on the world and the space it takes to make a record) – it’s more than a trailer; it’s a personal manifesto, isn’t it? “There is a message. I really do believe that words are one of the last forms of magic and I’m a bit of a mystic at heart. And I’ve seen how I feel about changing those people’s lives and I’ve been on the other side of that as well – on the other side of well-wishes and on the other side of malintent. And I’ve realised how strong you have to be to be; bigger than all of it, even bigger than your own vibrations. “I like that trailer because I talk about my contribution, which is something you start to think about. I’ve got good intentions. It’s not always going to come out right – it hasn’t come out right a lot of the time – but at the core my intentions have always been so good. With the music or when I get into a relationship, it’s always just because I really want to. That’s what’s at the root of this really cute, witchy B-movie.” You make a point in the trailer of saying “in these dark times”. Is there more pressure to contribute something positive right now? “I didn’t like hearing that come out of my mouth. I have a song, ‘When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing’, and I went back and forth so many times about putting it on the record because I didn’t feel comfortable with what I was saying. I don’t like hearing myself say, ‘In error it’s the end of America’, ’cause it’s a troubling sentiment. I didn’t like saying, ‘In these dark times’ either…” We both stop recording but keep talking about the state of the world we live in. I tell her that I can see more and more artists starting to come to terms with the fact that they need to be more outspoken and opinionated. She agrees and says people need to be bold because there are consequences. For the next hour, she makes silly videos on my phone, eats a messy sandwich and helps me choose photos to send to the NME art desk. She couldn’t be less like the idea of Lana Del Rey that most people subscribe to. There’s a confidence in her that perhaps she didn’t have before, a confidence that comes, maybe, from knowing that she’s about to release her most complete album, but knowing too that there are tweaks she could have made, things she should have done differently, things she’ll make right on the next record, ideas she’ll try when she’s next in the studio with Rick. Writing, editing, discarding, rewriting, tinkering, erasing, rebuilding.

Part 21
(This part was supposed to happen BEFORE Knuckles issue 4 So my bad.. )
Sonic 49 & 50 (technically, the Issue 50 Director’s Cut Super Sonic Special # 6)
Tumblr media
St. John fires on Sonic and with no more choices left for him Sonic jumps.  He’s exhausted and stressed, but with some quick thinking and some maguffiny ability he is able to create a small land bridge with the dirt collected in his shoes because, you know…  comic book logic.  He's doing everything he can to try to get back to Knothole and prove his innocence, but St. John will not give up.
Things back at Knothole are not faring any better. The King has just reinstated Robotnik as warlord, and now the freedom fighters are standing face to face with their worst enemy in their home... Betrayed by friend and now their king…?!
But wait.  As Robotnik taunts our heroes he simply presses the back of the King's head and he explodes, it was a trick! A robot double of King Acorn.
Tumblr media
The real King is still comatose and his body crystalline.
We see that Doctor Quack was blackmailed into flubbing Sally's death record.
With his wife and children in danger Dr. Quack has no choice but to keep his mouth shut and do whatever Robotnik and Snively command.
Back with Sonic, running out of options and running out of time he lets out a high pitched whistle to summon his friend Dulcy the dragon, and with her help he is able to escape St. John… for now.. but not for long since he is being tracked by him.
Tumblr media
Draco the Wolf’s girlfriend Hershey the Cat is a citizen of Knothole and she has just heard the terrible news of Sally's death and Draco strikes her and tells her that she is the one responsible.  Like the reader, Hershey is confused so Draco explains the nefarious plan.  He tosses out the Sonic suit that she did wear on that fateful day.  With some comic book logic that made total sense to 11 year old g2gfastreads, and somewhat sense to me now… (tirade time! I do not think that the technology used in the sonic suit or even the sonic suit itself is out of the realm of possibility for the universe that they live in. Robotnik was able to create a robot double of King Acorn that was able to fool his own daughter.. so come on. End rant)
Tumblr media
Hershey with the head of the Sonic suit gazes into a mirror, and instead of seeing the Sonic mask, she sees Snively…  uh oh…
Distraught by her involvement in Princess Sally’s assassination Hershey breaks down and weeps. Her lover is not who she thought he was and as far as well all know, Sally is gone because of it.
Waaaaay over in Downunda we see that this is where Bunnie and Antoine were taken for their imprisonment.  Bunnie is rigged up to an explosive set to go off if she uses her robotic limbs to try to fight or escape.  They are thrown into a cell with the Downunda Freedom Fighters who were ambushed and captured by orders from Crocbot… which was, if you don't remember,  the main antagonist from Tails’ miniseries.
After he was blown up, he had enough power to try to salvage nearby scrap to rebuild himself and he swore vengeance against the DFF and Tails.
Tumblr media
Up above it all Sonic and Dulcy approach the Floating Island and with everything that has been going on lately Knuckles attacks first and does not bother to question why Sonic or the Dragon have come. Knux’s sucker punch knocks Dulcy our cold. Of course, this means Sonic and Knuckles get into yet another scuffle.  They do not get to duke it out for long because Geoffrey St. John has been hot on Sonic’s tail this entire time.
50
The issue opens with a dream, a flashback to around more than a decade ago when Doctor Julian Ivo, joined forces with the Mobians.  Jules and Charles Hedgehog were surprised to see Overlanders (Humans) pursuing and attacking their own kind.  So Instead of killing him right there, or leaving him, the brothers took him back to the King.  The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?
The dream showed how Robotnik gave up Overlander secrets and became War Lord.
Tumblr media
When he awakes from his slumber his Swatbots inform him of a prisoner, not a mobian, but an unfortunate Overlander.  Robotnik uses the poor to test out something that he is sure will ensure his complete and utter dominance over the world.  Snively, though, has other plans.
Tumblr media
Back on the Floating Island, Sonic now has to deal with both St. John AND Knuckles but luckily Dulcy has come too and with a mighty shout and a stomp, she is able to get everyone’s attention.
Apparently, Dragons cannot tell lies, so since Dulcy believes Sonic about being framed, that’s good enough for everyone else. So now that Sonic is not public enemy #1 St. John, his men, Knuckles, and Sonic regroup and head back to Knothole.
Meanwhile! At Knothole, Combots, and Swatbots have all the citizens of Knothole lined up and being marched to robotization.  Tails and Rotor go underground to try to escape but even the tunnels are compromised!  Drago captures them and is going to have them set to the prison camp in Downunda like Bunnie and Antoine.
Speaking of Bunnie and Ant.  Bunnie slips her organic arm out her restraints and with the help of Barbie’s claws they are able to get free.  Bunnie detonates the exploding collar, fooling the combot guard into thinking that they’ve blown themselves up.
Tumblr media
Now that they have the element of surprise, they free the other members of the DFF and Bunnie and Antoine stole away onto a plane that was flying back to Robotropolis to deliver ore.  The ore that is the lynchpin for the Ultimate Annihilator.  The UA is Robotnik's magnum opus, with this device, not only would destroy Knothole, he would wipe it from existence, all zones, not even a memory. And that’s of course, really bad.
As Draco marched Tails and Rotor, an unexpected plane flies overhead. Sonic, Knuckles and St. John rain down from above and Draco, now outnumbered retreats.
I'm not really sure how Draco was able to get away from Sonic without being overtaken immediately but, we wouldn't have one of the more memorable scenes in the comic.
Tumblr media
Hershey offers to help Draco hide but then once his guard is down she pretty much kicks his ass and almost kills him!  Sonic came by just in time to see the aftermath and as she weeps she explains everything.
Sonic rushes to Robotropolis to bring the fight back to Robotnik.  Snively uses an armored suit to try to stop Sonic but he is defeated quickly. Before Sonic can look for Robotnik, he quite literally runs into Bunnie and Antoine.
Tumblr media
Bunnie and Ant want to try to blow the weapon up so Robotnik will not be able to use it, and Sonic is going to try to make a distraction to buy them some time but… it’s already too late. As Sonic goes to confront Robotnik, Bunnie and Antoine watch in horror as the structure opens and the device activates.  It’s do or die now. Even though it’s too late to stop it from firing, they can however make sure that it never works again after that.
Swatbots swarm Sonic and Robotnik takes the opportunity to fire the UA.
Knothole is gone.
...Well, at least Bunnie and Antione’s sabotage seemed to work, the UA is overloading, alarms are blaring, this thing is going to blow.
Sonic, with the destruction of Knothole has nothing to lose, and Robotnik who has finally destroyed Knothole, seems to be pleased with that and seems to be willing to die.
So they fought, how sweet would it be to die, knowing he took down Sonic with him.
Tumblr media
The Ultimate Annihilator explodes
Sonic for a moment is bliped out of existence
Robotnik is destroyed.
Hours later Sonic wakes up in Knothole med bay, and he is understandably confused. He saw his home destroyed, what happened?!
I’ll let Rotor explain because I don’t get it either~
Tumblr media
Okay, but why did Robotnik die and Sonic was fine? Take it away Doctor Quack.
Tumblr media
So everything is right as rain, right?  No, what about Sally? Dr. Quack explains that while that fall didn’t kill her, it did injure her and now she’s in a coma.  And there is no telling when she will come out of it.  Sonic doesn’t care, and he rushes out to Sally’s ‘memorial’.
Tumblr media
He kisses her cheek, and quietly pleads for her to come back and he loves her. And because it’s a comic book, and Sonic just so happens to have perfect timing this time.  Her eyes flutter open and she’s like “What did you say?”  He scoops her up in his arms and they share a passionate kiss…  But he wimps out and just says he was happy to see her instead of his confession.
Issue 50 was another big milestone in the Archie, Sonic run and reading it for the first time when I was young was pretty awesome.  Every few pages where penciled by different artists who worked on the series.
The Endgame series is finished, Robotnik is dead.  What is next for Sonic and Friends?

"Weak, weak weak weak weak!!!"
Scourge ripped at his headquills, pulling out bunches and whipping them like darts across the room, kicking over tables and throwing a tantrum.
"That was so FUCKING WEAK!!! What the fuck are you doing, man!? You used to be so fucking cool, an awesome king! Everyone feared and respected you!! Now look at you! Losing to some bag of bones on a beach in front of strangers!" He spat, throwing a punch into a nearby mirror, shattering it and barely wincing, even as he pulled his bloodied hand away.
"This is all... This is all SONIC'S fault...! He had to go and restart the damn universe...! And then... and then!! If that wasn't enough, he went and forgot me! Forgot everyone! Like it didn't even matter to him!"
Scourge panted, kicking the shards of broken glass and grabbing at his head, ripping out more quills, "What the FUCK is that!! What kind of HERO are you supposed to be?! You preach at me that I can turn over a new fucking leaf and what do you do!? You erase EVERYTHING! WHAT A LOAD OF SHHHHHIT!!!!"
He'd been endlessly comparing himself to the other... to the Prime Zone Sonic. Forever, he was just that... an Evil Sonic. And then he'd risen above it, over and over and over again... until he'd taken over all of Moebius, and declared himself King.
But it was never enough for anyone... he would always be "Evil Sonic" or just some chump trying to make a name for himself... And Sonic... Sonic never respected him, never bowed. Even though he was better than him in every way!! Scourge had thrown away his old name and became someone new, and yet...
But none of that mattered now, did it? Sonic didn't remember. No one from back then existed anymore... they were all gone. His gang, his girl, his status.
Scourge curled up amongst the wreck of his room, hugging his knees and burying his face in them, crying bitterly. No one was around to see, no one would know... but he still felt like a goddamn failure for it.
"...What the hell’m I s’pposed to do now...?"
