PSA: Zelda was the light dragon for way longer than 10,000 years.

The event that takes place 10,000 years prior to BotW was the first recorded Calamity. The first recorded Calamity is not what we see in the TotK flashbacks, with Rauru and Sonia and all that. The first recorded Calamity took place AFTER Ganondorf was sealed, when his malice escaped confinement. This is the event the Guardians and Divine Beasts were built for. The Guardians and Divine Beasts were used successfully, the Sheikah were banished by the mad king of Hyrule and the Yiga Clan formed as a result, and Zelda was the light dragon for all of it.

So to summarize, the timeline is:

A really long time ago, probably the Era of Myth noted in Creating a Champion: Sonia and Rauru found Hyrule 3.0, Ganondorf starts a war and is sealed, Zelda turns herself into a dragon

A long time after that - 10,000 years pre BotW: First recorded Calamity, Sheikah tech helps avert it, Sheikah are subsequently banished & Yiga form, dragon Zelda chills in clouds

9,900 years later - 100 years pre BotW: Next Calamity happens, Divine Beasts and Guardians are corrupted, Champions are killed and Zelda (human) restrains Ganon in the castle while Zelda (light dragon) flies around

100 years later - BotW: Link wakes up, helps Zelda (human) seal Ganon again, while Zelda (dragon) hangs out in the sky

5 or 6 years later - TotK: Zelda (human) gets yeeted to the Era of Myth, beginning the time loop, while Link works to beat Ganondorf and eventually transform dragon Zelda back into a human

Some have speculated that the "10,000" number used for the first recorded Calamity is meant as a generalization or something similar, because how can history be recorded so far back? But regardless, these are the numbers we are given. Since the first recorded Calamity was stated to have been 10,000 years ago, and the Sonia and Rauru stuff would have to have happened before that, we can surmise that Zelda was a dragon for way longer than just 10,000 years. Utaki worship in Ryukyu Shinto - Forest where the gods descend in Ryukyu Shinto

Ryukyu Shinto is a polytheistic religion that has been practised mainly in ancient Ryukyu and the Ryukyu Kingdom (Ref). It lacks written scriptures, specific doctrines or founders, and is an animistic and ancestral religion of mythology and nature worship.

Utaki are places where the mythical deities of the Ryukyu Islands exist or visit, and where ancestral deities are worshipped. It is a central facility in local rituals and still attracts many worshippers as a sanctuary that protects the area.

In Ryukyu Shinto, it is women who serve the gods. Since ancient times, women were considered to have stronger spiritual powers than men in the Ryukyus, and the noro, who served the gods, and the yuta, who were shamans, were also women. So, it was completely off-limits to the public, especially men, during the Kingdom period, and even the king had to change into women's clothing to enter the sanctuary. Even today, most of them only allow men to enter up to a certain area.

Many Utaki are forest spaces, springs or rivers, and sometimes the island itself. Some Utaki have a stone monument called Ibe or Ibi stone in the centre of the space, but this is originally a sign to which the deity descends and is not a sacred body in the strict sense of the word (although in many places it is treated as a sacred body).

Among others, the Sefa Utaki, the highest sacred site, is believed to be a Utaki from the 15th-16th century, during the reign of King Shō Shin, the second Shō dynasty of the Ryukyu Kingdom. “Sefa” means "highest" and "Sefa Utaki" means "highest Utaki", which is a common name. The official name of the deity is "Kimigataki, Syugataki-no-Ibi (meaning sanctuary where the lord descends)".

Later, following the invasion of Satsuma (now Kyushu, Japan), the original beliefs and ancient colours of the theocracy were gradually weakened and dismantled by reforms that promoted modernisation.

御嶽(うたき) 〜 琉球神道における神が降臨する森

琉球神道は、古琉球および琉球王国（参照）を中心に信仰されてきた多神教宗教である。固有の教典や具体的教義、開祖を欠いており、神話、自然崇拝のアニミズム的かつ祖霊崇拝的な宗教である。

御嶽(うたき) は琉球神話の神が存在、あるいは来訪する場所であり、また祖先神を祀る場でもある。地域の祭祀においては中心となる施設であり、地域を守護する聖域として現在も多くの信仰を集めている。

古来、琉球では女性の方が男性よりも霊力が強いと考えられており、神に仕えるノロやシャーマンであるユタも女性であった。そのため、王国時代は完全に一般人、特に男性の立ち入りは厳禁とされ、王であっても女性の衣装に変えて入域しなければならないほどの聖域だったと云われている。現在でもその多くが一定区域までしか男性の進入を認めていない。

御嶽(うたき) の多くは森の空間や泉や川などで、島そのものであることもある。御嶽(うたき) によっては空間の中心にイベあるいはイビ石という石碑があるが、これは本来は神が降臨する標識であり、厳密な意味でのご神体ではない (ご神体として扱われているところも多い)。

中でも、最高の聖地である斎場御嶽 (せーふぁーうたき) は、15世紀-16世紀の琉球王国・尚真王時代の御嶽であるとされる。「せーふぁ」は「最高位」を意味し、「斎場御嶽」は「最高の御嶽」ほどの意味となり、これは通称である。正式な神名は「君ガ嶽、主ガ嶽ノイビ (最高の神が降臨する聖域の意)」という。

その後、薩摩 (現在の九州) の侵入を受けて以後、近代化を進める改革によって、神権政治の本来の信念と古来の色彩は、次第に弱まり、解体されていった。

The Five Stages of Reading Albert Camus

 1. The Discovery – ”The Stranger” (1942)

 „The Stranger” is unquestionably the best choice for anyone who wants to get to know Albert Camus. It's so simple that it fools you at first. You think it's going to be an easy read, but when you finish the book and put it down, you don't even know your name or if it even matters to have a name. It will probably keep your mind busy for months and make you think about the true meaning of life. You will most likely never be the same person again.

 2. Falling in Love – ”Betwixt and Between” (1937) // ”The Fall” (1956) // ”Exile and the Kingdom” (1957)

After "The Stranger" has had time to settle and stick in your mind (a process that takes about six months to a year), it's time to explore other writing. Camus doesn't use the same language in every book, so it's important to be careful what you choose to read after. The best options to fall irrevocably in love with this French philosopher are ”Betwixt and Between”, which is his very first published book, ”The Fall”, which offers a very interesting narrative perspective, or ”Exile and the Kingdom”, his only collection of short stories. After going through these, your heart will be caught in the nets of love for Camus.

 3. The Surprise – ”The Plague” (1947) // ”A Happy Death” (written 1936–38, published 1971) // ”Summer” (1954) // ”Nuptials” (1938)

After the reader has gone through the above books, he will have the impression that he knows Camus. Now is the time for him to have the surprise of his life. Camus managed the feat of not giving the audience the same thing twice. That is why each of his writings is unique. Some are easier to read and digest, some are not. At this stage, it is time to get acquainted with its more difficult side. "The Plague" is a story that shakes you to the core and is difficult for even the best readers to get through. ”The Happy Death” should never have seen the light of day, being the first version of what we now know as The Stranger. "Summer" and "Nuptials" are dubbed essays and are similar in format to ”Betwixt and Between”, but here Camus approaches a completely new language, so poetic and refined that it instantly wins you over. Only after the reader goes through these books can he say that he understands a part of Camus.

 4. Not just a writer – ”The Myth of Sisyphus” (1942) // „The Rebel” (1951) // Theatre Plays // Journalism Articles

 Camus was not only a great French writer. He was also a philosopher (though he never called himself that), a journalist and a playwright. If you are interested in fully understanding Camus, you must also understand his writings in other fields. "The Myth of Sisyphus" is the essay that formed the basis of the formation of a new philosophical current called absurdism. "The Rebel" continues the work started by "The Myth of Sisyphus", going much deeper into the issues related to the meaning of life, art, war, etc. Plays like "Caligula" (1938) or "The Misunderstanding" (1944) are wonderful pieces of art in the history of the theater, while summing up the entire philosophy of Camus. His journalistic articles reveal a Camus involved in society, trying to change something in one way or another through writing. "Reflections on the Guillotine" (1957) for example was an important work that contributed to the abolition of the death penalty in France. Camus never confined his writing to a single specialization, and this can be seen in the skill with which he explored the power of the word in its various forms.

5. Camus the Human – ”The First Man” (incomplete, published 1994) // ”American Journals” (1978) // ”Correspondence (1944–1959)” // ”Notebooks”

At this point, after going through all these readings, we also want to find out who was the man behind the word. Camus put many things from his personal life into writing, but in this selection we have the most personal point of view. ”The First Man” was supposed to be an autobiographical novel, but Camus died before he could finish it. The remaining manuscript was revised and published years after the author's death. "American Journals" captures a highly sensitive moment in his life, an existential crisis in Camus's life. ”Correspondence” is an exchange of letters between Camus and the woman with probably the greatest influence in his life, Maria Casares. Finally, the "Notebooks" are a collection made from the notes that Camus wrote over the years in his countless notebooks. Every intimate thought, beginning of a novel, reflection, trace of feeling, all these complete the image of Camus as a man.

Congratulations! If you have reached this point, you have managed to go through all the stages of knowledge and you can call yourself a true fan of Albert Camus. Now go and spread his teachings to other little outstiders. And don't forget, the only purpose of life is to be happy (reading Camus together).

i think the reason i find jason so interesting is because the lore surrounding him is so interesting but he comes across so straightlaced which suggests to me that he does this on purpose. he forces himself into this persona of perfection and "conceal don't feel" and it fascinates me. like there's the whole thing where there are expectations for jason, as the son of jupiter and juno's champion, add to that the fact that it is implied that the romans have far less contact with the gods and especially major gods than even the greeks, and that up until very recently, jason was the only child of the big three *chef's kiss* then when you think about the emphasis on hierarchy and obedience in the roman camp and jupiter being more associated with aspects of governance than zeus, and imagine feral 'i was raised by wolves' toddler!jason being molded to fit in and groomed to lead. and consider the history of the children of jupiter, and jupiter's own history with patricide, and his father's history with patricide, and how jason is already under scrutiny for the circumstances he was born under, an oath sworn on the Styx being broken by the god of oaths who was the only one to break it on the roman side, so jason must be under a lot of pressure. he can't mess up, he doesn't get that luxury. not only does he have to be perfect, he also has to be obedient and subservient to the gods, but also a great leader to his people, and also be as inoffensive and unobtrusive as possible, but also mediocrity is not an option and he has to stand out and be tuly great but also not too great and become a threat to the gods. he is so fascinating

the kyoshi flashback in Avatar Day and the sheer scale of ba sing se in comparison to…. literally everywhere else in the world really has me thinking about the politics that lead to such distinct “nations”. it makes way more sense for a land as vast as the earth kingdom to have once been earth kingdoms with local land disputes between feudal lords - as we see with the conflict kyoshi ended - only for a world-spanning war to have driven first the lords to unite under ba sing se’s banner for protection, and then as the war continued, increasing waves and waves of refugees and oma shu standing as the only remaining hold out due to their unique position (top of a mountain - most other earth kingdom towns we see are in valleys) such would explain how many ruins and ghost towns we see throughout s2 but also the improbability of a land that big to be unified under a single leader for that long
