In regards to your question. Actual hockey lore? No. Pensblr lore? Sorta.

The start of it is a screenshot from twitter that I’m reposting below that says “If a goalie makes over 40 saves and still loses they should be allowed to chase after their teammates with a knife.” I think it originally entered hockeyblr with Gibby last year cause he was getting shelled constantly but like it’s universal the same way love thy goalie is universal.

I wanna say last year between bad losses, bad defense, and Jars himself being spicy in various ways, it developed into he deserves a knife. What’s he gonna do with that knife - stab his enemies or his disappointing teammates - who knows who cares Jars can be trusted. He deserves one. Give him a knife. So whenever Jars is being extra spicy or the boys are playing bad in front of him, he deserves a knife. It’s a reward and a punishment and it’s whatever. One of the spicier (though knife-less) plays last year was Jars going to the bench for the extra attacker (delayed penalty) and full on checking Leon Draisatl. So yeah. Spicy.

God there’s also that one image of (the gc says it’s) Tukka Rask brandishing his skate blade after it popped off mid game. So that’s in there in the collective “you can definitely trust a goalie with a knife” brain space.

What’s the worst injury they’ve each had?

I actually haven't thought about it that extensively. Neither of them is the type to get severely injured on the regular. Vasco has luck on his side and he's fit, healthy and solidly made, so he can take a few knocks before he starts to really feel it. Machete is an overly cautious indoor person, he rarely gets into risky situations.

I've been thinking of how likely it would be that Vasco had to take part in any serious battles or wars in his lifetime, and whether he'd come back from them unscathed. As a nobleman military duties are technically his responsibility. I could afford to break him just a tiniest bit, give him a taste of mortality. Either that or some kind of horse related accident.

Machete has more issues with various illnesses than wounds. A bad case of malaria very nearly killed him, before Vasco's intervention he was heading to hypovolemic shock from aggressive bloodletting, purging and dehydration.

Even from the very beginning of the story, seeing him armed with his self-destruct function fully willing (on multiple occasions!) to go down taking his enemy with him was concerning, but this....

'A pathetic being whose only purpose in life is to fight...just like me.' Once again, seeing himself (compared to Boros' salvaged body) as a disposable weapon...oh Genos, no. D: (aaaa every time, I say this towards him with the tone of a concerned mother!)

But even more than that, this -

...is very much leaning on homicidal (genocidal?!) thoughts! D8 Which quite frankly....is not the type of thing a hero would say! Right now as he's someone who's dead-set on violently killing their target (out of urgent anger, hatred, and revenge...is Metal Knight even the correct culprit or is it all misplaced and things are not what it seems!) Couple that with his flashes of doubt, to almost momentary resentment directed towards Saitama (?!) for ever wasting away his time 'clouding his judgment' with daily idle bullshit, and oh wow...that's dark that's...not good. Genos, no!!!! Although he's able to check (and scold!) himself at the last moment for those...intrusive thoughts, at least for now...but the window gap for his rationality may be growing smaller as his emotions boil to become more volatile and unstable. D: Once again (as always), I remain ever worried for him and his fluctuating, darkening mental state...
