This was supposed to be for the Ladrien June prompt "morning", but I didn't feel like waiting another week or so 😂.
Excerpt:
[CW for grief/mourning and recent character death (Gabriel)]
Adrien cleared his throat. "I...ran into Chat Noir outside. He said he had to go, but he told me..." He took a deep breath, continuing in a whisper. "I know my father's dead." It was the first time he'd said it out loud, and the words came out surprisingly clear. It was only afterwards, when they hung in the awkward silence following Ladybug's sharp intake of air, that he felt like they were eating him from the inside out. Ladybug's grip tightened. "I'm sorry, Adrien. I'm so sorry."
Read on Ao3, or under the cut!! 💜
The rising sun hit Adrien's back as he forced his front door open, its light casting an eerie glow over the mansion’s battle-torn foyer. Half the ceiling was caved in. The staircase was all but destroyed. And scraps of metal amongst the wreckage glinted gold, like the dying embers of a fire. Like the end of an era.
It wasn't the victory it should have been.
As the door slipped from his fingers, Adrien squeezed his eyes shut and stopped to take a few steadying breaths—a dangerous idea. Police officers were still on site, gathering evidence amidst the wreckage. One of them could easily notice him, and then he might get stuck answering their questions. He needed to move. He needed to remember the simple instructions he'd outlined for himself before walking back inside.
Sneak into the kitchen. Grab food for Plagg. Get out.
Run.
He could cover his tracks later. It wouldn't be too hard to find an excuse for Ladybug as to why Chat Noir hadn't come back after he allegedly went outside to recharge. It would definitely be easier than facing her as his civilian self—as Monarch's son—right now.
But hesitation had cost him. "Adrien?"
Ladybug.
Unable to reply or to so much as glance in her direction, Adrien stared resolutely at a piece of rubble by his feet—a piece which he thought used to be part of the bannister. Tears burned the corner of his eyes, but he did his best to blink them away.
He tensed when he heard her approach, something he wouldn't have noticed so quickly if it weren't for the debris scattered about. Any other day, her footsteps would have barely made a sound against the marble floors.
Too soon, her feet stopped in front of him. He struggled to keep his breaths even, fighting to remain upright when it felt like the entire world was closing in around him.
"I...I thought you were at Nino's," she said.
Had he told her that? He barely remembered any of the excuses he'd made last night. It was hard to recall much aside from how he'd awoken a few hours earlier to find his father's body splayed unnaturally across the floor, his vacant stare somehow still bearing traces of disappointment.
The ambulance had pulled away maybe an hour ago, with no sirens to accompany its departure.
Adrien only realized Ladybug was probably waiting for a response when she grabbed his hand, pulling him back to the present with a gentle squeeze. His stomach swirled. Couldn't she have reached for his other side?
She deserved better than the hand he'd used to destroy his own father.
When he finally managed to look up, he only felt worse seeing the sympathy in her eyes. He quickly looked back to his feet, panic drowning out any response he tried to cobble together in his head.
"Has anyone told you what happened?" she asked.
Adrien almost said no—which would be the truth, technically. Nobody had told him, unless he counted the clarifications Plagg had provided after the fact, details of what occurred after Ladybug and Chat Noir fell victim to Monarch's Akuma. Part of him wondered how Ladybug would tell the story, which parts would she soften or leave out. He wondered what she really thought.
But maybe it was better not to know.
Adrien cleared his throat. "I...ran into Chat Noir outside. He said he had to go, but he told me..." He took a deep breath, continuing in a whisper. "I know my father's dead."
It was the first time he'd said it out loud, and the words came out surprisingly clear. It was only afterwards, when they hung in the awkward silence following Ladybug's sharp intake of air, that he felt like they were eating him from the inside out.
Ladybug's grip tightened. "I'm sorry, Adrien. I'm so sorry."
His gut coiled tightly with some unbearable emotion. He tried to think up something else to say, lips parting as he raised his head to look at her. But the second he met her eyes—so wide and blue and sad—speaking was a lost cause.
His lips quivered. A sob clawed its way up his throat, tugging another one up behind it before the first had even broken free. Ladybug's hand rubbed up and down his arm, and that was all the encouragement he needed to finally release the tsunami inside him.
Adrien had killed his own father.
For months he'd been suffering. Adrien had assumed, when Monarch reappeared from his brief hiatus, that he was okay. That the Cataclysm hadn't been fatal. Instead he'd had a front row seat to his demise—to all the times he cried out in pain while cooking breakfast, trying to pretend everything was fine whenever Adrien noticed.
But if it weren't for that Cataclysm, if Monarch's health hadn't been weakened, then the world might have ended a few hours ago, torn apart and rebuilt in his father’s image. With his parents and Nathalie still alive.
How was he meant to feel about that?
He didn't even know where he was supposed to sleep tonight.
But at least Ladybug didn't hate him. At least he still had one friend in this crazy, twisted world.
She pulled him into her arms as he broke down in tears, as he crumpled like the ceiling and shattered like the windows. As he was reduced to nothing but a shaky foundation, to the dying embers of who he used to be.
Adrien and his cold, lonely home finally had something in common.
...
"Here you go," Ladybug said, sliding a mug of tea across the kitchen counter as she settled onto the stool beside him.
Adrien wrapped his hands around the mug. The water was still too hot, but it took him a few seconds to notice. By the time he loosened his grip, his fingers already stung.
"Thanks," he croaked, his throat raw from crying. He wasn't really the biggest fan of tea, but it had seemed to make Ladybug feel better having some way to help him.
The least he could do was pretend she'd succeeded.
For a while they sat in silence. Adrien stared blankly at his tea, vaguely aware of how Ladybug kept shifting around like she couldn't get comfortable.
"Do you...have any questions?" she asked eventually.
He shook his head. None of his questions were for the living.
"Well," she said, "if you think of any later...I'd be happy to answer if I can. And if there's anything else I can do..." She reached out slowly to touch his shoulder, and it was all he could do not to shake her off. "Is there anywhere you'd like to go? Someone you'd like to see?"
Adrien fiddled with the string of his tea bag, watching it bob up and down. "Am I even allowed?"
"What do you mean?"
"To leave."
"Why wouldn't you be?" When he shrugged, her hand slipped from his shoulder. She slid her stool closer. "Adrien, you're not in trouble. Nobody thinks you had anything to do with any of this."
Maybe they should.
Adrien swallowed. "But...don't I have to talk to a social worker or something?"
"Oh. I, um...I don't know. I guess so, but there's nobody here right now, so...I don't think anyone would mind if I took you somewhere else to wait."
He nodded slowly, hand moving automatically to his pocket. He shifted to pull out the lucky charm he kept there, wrapping his fingers tightly around it. "Maybe I could go to my girlfriend's house."
"That sounds like a great idea," Ladybug said, jumping to her feet. "Let's go!"
Adrien remained glued in his seat, his stomach swirling. Seeing Marinette probably would make him feel better—at least on the surface. But how long could that last? Hiding his identity hadn't really come between them since they'd gotten together, but this was different. How could he hide the worst thing he'd ever done?
But what if he told her and she never looked at him the same way?
Ladybug's stool scraped against the floor as she sat back down, and she sounded upset when she spoke. "Do you not want to go?"
Adrien set the lucky charm on the table and watched the beads blur behind fresh tears. "I'm...scared."
"Why?"
"Because...what if Marinette sees me differently."
"Do you really believe she would?" Ladybug asked in a small voice.
He thought for a moment. "No? I don't know. Probably not, but...she could."
She grabbed his hand, and when he glanced her way there was an intensity in her eyes he couldn't interpret. "I'm sure she won't."
"You can't know that."
"But I do! I—she loves you, right?"
Adrien's stomach clenched, but he managed a nod as a hot tear rolled down his cheek.
"Exactly!" Ladybug said, gesturing nonsense with her free hand. "So there!"
He mustered a small smile for her enthusiasm, but it was short-lived. "It doesn't matter," he said, wiping his eyes. "Things are different now."
"Sure. But...that doesn't mean everything has to change, right?"
He didn't answer, trying to ignore the feelings swirling inside him by poking at his tea bag again. The water was cool enough now that it didn't hurt when he accidentally dipped his finger in, but the idea of actually taking a sip and swallowing seemed foreign. So he kept staring at it until a sniffle came from beside him. He turned to see Ladybug with one hand covering her mouth, tears trickling down her cheeks.
"My lady?" he said without thinking, reaching over to set a hand on her shoulder. Panic spiked through him when he realized what he'd called her, but she didn't seem to notice.
"I'm sorry!" she cried. "I didn't mean to...I'm f-fine! It's just that you—I just want to help you! But maybe I c-can't. And it's not f-fair, that you're hurting. And..."
Her next words were drowned out by a sob. She slumped down on the table, hiding her face in her arms. All Adrien could do was sit there rubbing her back until she calmed down, at which point she pushed herself up slowly, wiping her eyes.
"I'm sorry I let this happen," she said.
"What?" Adrien replayed her words in his head, certain he'd misunderstood. "It wasn't your fault."
"It was my job to stop Monarch from making the wish, and I...failed. Even if he didn't succeed...someone's still paying the price."
"That's ridiculous." It was his fault.
"Adrien, it's fine. You don't have to..." She drew in a shaky breath. "If you're mad at me, I understand."
None of the morning had felt real, but now Adrien was sure he must be caught in some sort of alternate reality.
Maybe the wish had worked. Maybe his mother would walk into the kitchen at any moment.
If only.
"That makes no sense," Adrien said slowly, still trying to wrap his head around things. "If anything, it's Chat Noir's fault."
Ladybug's eyes went wide. "Did he tell you that?"
How was he meant to answer that? "Not...exactly. But he told me about the Cataclysm, and—"
"Please don't blame him for that. I know he feels terrible enough already."
"Because Monarch's dead thanks to him. It's his fault!"
"It's not," Ladybug pleaded. "He was just following my plan, and Monarch caught us off guard, and then..."
"But...but you..." Adrien trailed off, his body shaking.
He didn't know what to say, because technically Ladybug was right. But he didn't blame her at all, and he certainly didn't want her blaming herself.
"It was my fault," he said, knowing it was true. He felt it with every inch of his body, with every useless breath he took.
The guilt consumed him.
"Adrien," Ladybug breathed. "It's absolutely not your fault. How could you even think that?"
Only once he processed her words did he recognize his own misstep. But she hadn't caught on yet. He could still walk this back.
But he wasn't sure he wanted to.
This secret took too energy much to hide.
"It was me,” he said shakily. “It was my..."
He couldn't finish the sentence. He could barely even breathe. But he could see in Ladybug’s eyes that she still didn't understand, so he raised his hand to mimic the motion, stretching out his fingers the way he would if he'd really called on his power. He tried to mouth the word too, but he wasn't really sure his lips obeyed. Slowly, he lowered his hand to the counter, letting it collapse into a fist when he made contact.
Cataclysm.
He watched as realization slowly dawned on her. Then she blinked hard, shaking her head as if trying to dismiss the idea. But her eyes flew to the ring on his hand, widening further.
“Chat Noir?”
"I did this," he said in a broken whisper. "I killed him."
"Oh, Chaton. No." Ladybug stood, wrapping her arms around him. "It was an accident. It's not your fault."
Adrien thought that maybe, if he kept taking breaths so small they barely counted, if he let his mind float away the way it had been threatening to do all morning, then maybe—maybe—he could keep from crying again. But Ladybug rested her head on his shoulder, her warm breath ruffling his T-shirt. And that was all it took for him to come apart again.
...
They ended up on the floor, wedged between both stools. Adrien wasn't sure if he'd fallen off his seat at some point or if Ladybug had carried him here. He didn't care. As long as he could keep lying here with his head in Ladybug's lap and her fingers in his hair, he could somehow keep the guilt at bay. He could stop it from devouring him whole.
But he couldn't stay here forever.
Marinette's lucky charm was clenched in his fist again, and he was afraid to let go.
"Should I tell her?" Adrien asked.
"Hm?"
"Marinette. Should I..." He closed his eyes. "Do you think she'd hate me if I told her the truth?"
Ladybug let out a shaky breath, her fingers freezing in his hair. "She won't hate you. And...yes. I think you should tell her."
"Okay. Maybe I will."
"How about this?" Ladybug said. "If she breaks up with you, I'll date you instead."
Adrien managed some semblance of a laugh. "What about your boyfriend?”
“Mmm." She twisted another strand of hair around her finger. "Somehow I don’t think he’ll mind.”
“All right then. It’s a deal.”
Her offer was a joke—he knew that. But somehow it still felt like a promise.
"Would you...like me to take you to her now?”Ladybug asked. “I still can, if you want."
"Maybe." He thought of the bakery. Of Tom and Sabine's welcoming smiles, the smell of croissants, and being wrapped up in one of Marinette's hugs. It sounded nice. "Give me five more min—" He broke off in a yawn.
Ladybug laughed. "Or you can get some sleep first." Her voice was gentle and steady and safe. "I'll stay with you."
He tried to reply, but his words were engulfed by another yawn. So he settled for mumbling his agreement, squeezing the lucky charm to his chest, and letting his eyes flutter closed.
Maybe in his dreams, the world wouldn't hurt so much.

Under the Moth’s Wing CH6: Lady Wifi
April Fools! The joke is I don’t have anymore of this story ready after this chapter, so this is all you guys get for now. Also Ladrien in Adrinette April? ;) Anyway, I’ve been busy, so I haven’t had much time to write or work on this one, but I promise I’ll be getting back to it soon! Until then enjoy this update ;)
Read on AO3
Chapter 6
“Hey, bugheads! Alya here with another update on Paris’s new superheroine! Our girl has done it again, defeating Stormy Weather earlier this afternoon. I wasn’t able to get much footage because I was stuck under ice, but I haven’t given up on our mission to find out who the girl under the mask really is. None of my current theories have much evidence, so one thing is for sure: Ladybug is seriously good at keeping her identity a secret, but that won’t stop me from investigating! I’ll keep you guys updated. Bye for now, bugheads. Don’t forget to stay connected!”
Adrien dimmed the screen on his phone at the dining table, and his father sipped his coffee pensively.
“Alya is really interested in finding out Ladybug’s identity. I think she could lead us to her,” he said.
“Excellent work, Adrien. I think you’re right, this girl could prove valuable to our cause.” His father smirked, the closest expression to a smile his father was capable of in Adrien’s experience. “Keep an eye on her, and let me know if she finds anything.”
“Yes, Father.”
School was like any other day, and Adrien was finally starting to get into the routine. He greeted various classmates as he passed them on the way to the locker room. Marinette was standing by her locker with her back to him, and he ran his fingers down the soft yarn of his new scarf with a smile.
“Hey,” he called as he approached. Nino got onto him about sneaking up on people, so he’d been making more of an effort to announce himself.
Marinette turned to him, with a cheery smile, though her eyes widened like she was still startled to see him. Drat. He’d have to work harder.
“Hi, Adri-you! You-drien! Ad-you. Hey, hi. What’s down? I mean, what’s going up?” She slapped a palm to her forehead with a sigh.
“Uh…” Adrien tilted his head to the side. Maybe shouting wasn’t the best way to announce himself. He’d clearly made her flustered. “I just wanted to come thank you for my new scarf and wish you luck in the tournament.”
“Oh! Yeah, right. The scarf. You’re so welcome. I mean, it wasn’t any trouble at all.” She giggled. “Does this mean you like it?”
“I love it!” He placed a hand on her shoulder. “No one’s ever made me a gift like this before. I’m just really glad we put our differences aside, and I hope we can become good friends from now on.”
“Me too!” Marinette squeaked.
The bell rang, and Adrien gestured for Marinette to walk with him to class. She offered him a stiff smile and fell into step beside him. Silence stretched between them as they crossed the courtyard, but rather than the hostility Adrien had grown accustomed to with Marinette, this felt more… awkward. Like neither of them knew what to say after being enemies for the first three weeks of knowing each other. Adrien tried not to let it get to him as they made it to class. After all, his friendship with Nino had started off slow too. They’d get there eventually.
Mlle. Bustier’s class was interesting, although literature wasn’t his favorite subject. Adrien surprised himself with how much he enjoyed school, even outside of getting to make new friends. All of the material came quickly to him, and he was consistently one of the highest grades in the class after Max — a fact he used as evidence when proving to his father that letting him go to public school was a good idea.
Midway through a lecture about Shakespeare, Adrien’s phone buzzed in his pocket. With a quick glance up at his teacher to ensure he wouldn’t get caught, Adrien spared a glance at the text.
I’ve akumatized a disgruntled office worker uptown. Stay put and keep an eye on the girl with the blog.
Adrien tucked his phone away with a sigh. At least his father sent a warning text this time, but there was no way he could sneak out of school and make it uptown in time to see Ladybug. Oh well. If Alya managed to learn her identity, Adrien could just ask her out in person.
Everyone’s phones buzzed with an akuma alert — a new emergency broadcast the police had come up with after the Stoneheart incident. Mlle. Bustier instructed everyone to remain calm as the threat was nowhere near the school.
“Mlle. Bustier!” Marinette’s hand shot up. “Can I use the restroom?”
“Yes, but hurry back.” Mlle. Bustier gave a permitting nod, and Marinette darted for the door.
Adrien leaned against his fist as Mlle. Bustier resumed her lesson, the rest of which was uneventful. The akuma threat stayed across town, never giving the school a reason to lockdown, and much to Adrien’s dismay, he never saw Ladybug.
When the bell rang to signal the end of the period, Mlle. Bustier quirked a brow at Marinette’s abandoned backpack.
“Alya, can you make sure Marinette gets her bag back?” she asked.
Alya’s eyes furrowed as she gathered her friend’s belongings and slung the pink bag over her other shoulder.
Adrien tailed her up the hall, keeping enough distance to not seem suspicious. She was watching news footage on her phone as she crossed the courtyard toward the locker room, but she made no moves to sneak out to get in on the action.
The day wore on, but Alya stayed put, shifting from class to class with Marinette’s abandoned bag in tow. Where had she gone anyway? Was her bathroom trip really that much of an emergency? Adrien shrugged it off, seeing as Marinette wasn’t his target, and he really didn’t want to know what she was up to in the bathroom.
After their final class, Adrien followed Alya back to the locker room with a sigh. Nothing exciting happened after all, and he missed seeing Ladybug too! Maybe the whole Ladyblog thing was a bust.
Alya stopped short, ducking behind a row of lockers, so Adrien did the same a few rows down. She peeked around the side to the next row, but Adrien was too far away to see what she was spying on. Or who she was spying on. After a few minutes, she paced swiftly back up the room toward the door, and Adrien fumbled to act natural, though Alya paid him no mind. He waited a few seconds, then followed.
By the time Adrien made it out of the locker room, Alya had already sprinted across the courtyard and up the stairs to the exit. Adrien jogged after her, making it out in time to see her dragging Nino down the steps to the banks of the Seine. His eyes narrowed, but he pursued them quietly.
“You absolutely cannot tell anyone what I’m about to tell you!” Alya was saying when Adrien paused on the stairs above their bench to listen.
“What are you talking about? I have to go pick up my little brother,” Nino said, sounding annoyed.
“My sisters go to the same preschool as your brother, they’ll be fine.” Adrien could picture Alya’s eye roll. “What I’m about to tell you is the biggest scoop.”
Nino sighed. “Fine, but make it quick.”
“I know who Ladybug is!”
What?
“Whoa, no cap?” Nino gasped, a phrase Adrien still couldn’t decipher. “Who is it?”
Alya got quiet for a few moments, and Adrien strained to listen.
“Pfft, yeah right!” Nino’s laughter echoed up the canal. “You really think Chloe Bourgeois has an altruistic bone in her body?”
“Shh!” Alya hissed. “Look, I saw her stuffing Ladybug stuff into her schoolbag in the locker room. What better cover for a superhero than pretending to be a spoiled brat? No one would suspect her!”
“Yeah, because she’s not pretending. Seriously, there’s no way Chloe is Ladybug,” Nino said.
“You don’t know! I’ll prove it!” Alya shot back.
Adrien rolled his eyes and crept back up the stairs. Some journalist she was. First of all, Ladybug was a radiant goddess, and Chloe was… Chloe. Secondly, Ladybug and Chloe were both at the Eiffel Tower when Stoneheart attacked, so there was no physical way it could be her — a fact Adrien remained grateful for. Alya really was a dead end.
Heading back into the school to prepare for his fencing practice, Adrien clicked the phone icon next to his father’s name. He answered on the second ring.
“I take it since you’re calling that you’ve found something?”
A hello would have been nice, but Adrien was used to his father’s curtness.
“Not exactly. Alya thinks Chloe is Ladybug, but that’s not even possible! I’m sorry she wasn’t more useful, Father.” He lowered his gaze, bracing for the scorning.
“Hmm.” His father hummed. “We may still be able to use this to our advantage.”
“Really? How?” Adrien blinked.
“Ladybug is highly esteemed by this girl. She will be disappointed to learn that her idol isn’t who she thought she would be,” his father said. “She will make excellent prey for my akuma. We just need to be patient.”
“I’m glad I could help?” Adrien smiled, still confused, but happy his father wasn’t angry. “I’ve got fencing now, but will I see you at dinner?”
“I have to be prepared in the instance that Chloe proves disappointing. I need to be ready to capitalize on this girl’s negative emotions,” he said.
“Oh.” His shoulders slumped. “That’s okay. Maybe next time.”
His father hung up, and Adrien tucked his phone back into his bag with a sigh. At least something good was going to come from his efforts. Maybe if they brought his mom back, his father would have meals with him again. It was a nice thought anyway.
The next day, Adrien sat back as Alya crept after Chloe into the locker room, dragging a reluctant Nino with her. An akumatized Alya would likely mean a chance to see Ladybug for him, though Adrien did feel a little guilty for setting Alya up. But only a little. He might have made friends with Marinette, but he hadn’t crossed that bridge with Alya yet.
Speaking of, he hadn’t seen Marinette since she left for the bathroom the previous day. Hopefully she was okay. One thing he hadn’t thought about with public school was how often everyone got sick — a fate he’d managed to escape so far. Maybe he’d get her a get well gift when she got back to school. That was acceptable for friends to do, right?
The bell rang, and Adrien headed to class, though Alya was pointedly missing when Mlle. Bustier shut the door. Chloe strutted in with a smirk, so he could only assume that everything was going exactly according to his father’s plan. Nino’s slumped shoulders seemed to confirm the worst as he slipped onto the bench beside Adrien. With a deep breath, Adrien tuned into the lecture, figuring it wouldn’t be long until Alya interrupted.
A few minutes into class, Marinette crept through the door and into her seat quietly. She seemed to be feeling better when she leaned down to tap Nino’s shoulder.
“Where’s Alya?” she whispered.
“She got suspended.”
“What?” Marinette shot up with a gasp.
Mlle. Bustier stopped her lecture and turned to them with a frown. “Marinette, if you’re going to come in late, at least do so quietly.”
“Sorry.” She waited thirty seconds before tapping Nino again. “What happened?”
“She got caught digging through Chloe’s locker because she thinks Chloe might be Ladybug.” Nino rolled his eyes.
“What?” Marinette gasped again.
Mlle. Bustier turned around again with a steely glare. “Marinette, if you interrupt my lecture again, I’m going to send you to the-”
“Hello, people of Paris! Lady Wifi here bringing you the scoop of a lifetime.” The overhead projector sprang to life on its own, and scarlet eyes glared back at them behind a black mask. Lady Wifi spun the chair next to her around to reveal a cowering M. Damocles. “Why don’t you tell us the real story? Is it true you suspended a girl named Alya earlier for no good reason?”
“I did.” He shrank away from her.
“So, you admit that you were biased?”
“I was.” He frowned.
“I thought so.” A purple beam shot out of Lady Wifi’s phone screen, a pause symbol stopping M. Damocles in his tracks. “I’ve got an even bigger scoop for all of you coming very soon. Stay tuned as I unmask Ladybug!”
The broadcast ended, and Adrien’s classmates huddled together in fear. Even Mlle. Bustier seemed shaken.
“Alya…” Marinette glanced at the empty seat beside her, face sinking.
Adrien shifted his weight, his phone weighing heavy in his pocket. He’d known it was coming, but seeing his classmates tremble in fear still made his stomach twist in knots. As much as he enjoyed seeing Ladybug, he really hoped Lady Wifi succeeded in unmasking her, so they could put an end to this nightmare.
“Stay calm, everyone.” Mlle. Bustier clapped her hands. “Ladybug will get this all sorted out soon. Go home until the all clear texts are sent.”
Adrien hung back from the crowd, retrieving his phone from his pocket.
School was dismissed. How can I help?
He retrieved his books from his locker while he awaited a reply. Halfway up the courtyard, his phone buzzed.
Lady Wifi will be targeting Chloe Bourgeois. Head to the Grand Paris and make sure she succeeds in unmasking Ladybug.
Adrien smiled, tucking his phone back into his pocket. His father didn’t have to tell him twice. He’d happily throw himself in front of Ladybug any day. If all went well, he’d know her identity, and if they played their cards right, she didn’t have to know he and his father were the ones that took her Miraculous. He could totally still ask her out.
The hotel was suspiciously empty when Adrien arrived. There wasn’t even a receptionist at the front desk, which could only mean the akuma was close if everyone was hiding. Adrien took the stairs, but halfway up to Chloe’s floor, he heard commotion coming from the dining room. Cracking the door, he peeked into the room where Ladybug was tussling with Lady Wifi.
Smartphones were scattered around on every table, and Lady Wifi was using them to bounce around the room. Frustrated, Ladybug smashed each one, forcing Lady Wifi to face her one-on-one.
Adrien slipped through the door, pressing himself against the wall to watch their fight, ready to swoop in to comfort Ladybug the moment she lost, but his cover was blown when Lady Wifi sent her flying across the room. She landed at his feet, the shock in her eyes melting into a glare.
“What are you doing here? It’s dangerous, go home!” she growled.
Adrien helped her to her feet. “I thought I could help. What do you need me to do?”
“I need you to get out of here!” Ladybug spun her yoyo in front of them, deflecting a shot from Lady Wifi. Pushing him behind the bar, she tossed the cash register at Lady Wifi.
“But I’ve helped in the past! We make a pretty good team, don’t you think?” Adrien flexed.
“Look, I’m really sorry, but without superpowers, you’re too much of a liability. I’m not looking for a sidekick, so please, get out of he-”
Lady Wifi charged in, catching Ladybug in her brief moment of distraction. The two exchanged kicks and jabs, but Lady Wifi drove Ladybug back, launching her into the kitchen and locking the door. When Lady Wifi disappeared in a flash of light, Adrien raced for the door, but it wasn’t budging. Remembering when he and Chloe would play in the hotel halls as kids, Adrien recalled there was a dumbwaiter they used to ride down to the kitchen to sneak desserts and darted for the stairs. It was a much tighter squeeze than he remembered, but the dumbwaiter held out as he descended into darkness.
“-why won’t it come off?” Lady Wifi growled as Adrien drew closer.
“Uh, because it’s magic,” Ladybug said.
Adrien’s lift buzzed loudly when he landed, drawing attention to him as he toppled out. The alarm was new, and probably a direct result of his childhood escapades.
“Oh, look. Your little boyfriend came to rescue you,” Lady Wifi cooed.
“He’s not my boyfriend!”
Ouch. Technically true, but ouch.
“Ya know, for a girl that loves superheroes, you sure had no qualms joining the enemy to fight against her. I think you’re a fake fan.” Adrien crossed his arms over his chest.
“You- What?” Lady Wifi faltered, clutching her head.
Ladybug used the opportunity to kick the phone from her grasp. It slid across the room, freeing her arms from their locks. Lady Wifi scrambled after her phone with a growl, flicking her scarlet gaze between Adrien and Ladybug.
Adrien braced as she charged for him, attempting to dodge her fist, but her foot collided with his stomach, knocking him winded onto the cold floor of the freezer. He rolled over with a wheeze as the door slammed shut and crawled to his feet.
“Why don’t you prove to all of us that you’re the real deal, Ladybug? Let’s see you save your little boyfriend, hero,” Lady Wifi said.
Adrien tried the handle, but the door wouldn’t budge. Cold pricked his skin, trailing goosebumps up his arms. He huddled down into the warmth of Marinette’s scarf, rubbing his arms. He’d never appreciated his new friends more.
“Adrien?” Ladybug beat on the door. “I’m going to get you out of there.”
“Yeah, n-no p-problem. I’ll just chill in here.” Literally.
“Lucky Charm!”
Wait, she was really going to waste her lucky charm on him? That had to mean she was into him, right? She was worried about him getting hurt earlier… The thought warmed him up quick.
“You’re all about to get the scoop of a lifetime!” Adrien’s phone sprang to life in his pocket, Lady Wifi’s broadcast taking over every screen in Paris. The image shifted to the scene of Ladybug scrambling around the kitchen with a red and black spotted box. “We all look up to her, but can we really trust her if we don’t know who she is? In just a few short minutes, she’ll transform back, and all of Paris will know what she’s been hiding!”
Pots and pans clanked on the other side of the door as Ladybug shoved things out of the way. She heaved the microwave onto a cart and placed her lucky charm inside. Plugging it into the outlet outside the freezer, she shoved the cart against the door and turned the microwave on.
Of course! The microwaves would jam the signal to the lock on the door. His lady was so smart, but why was she using it to free him when she could use it to escape the kitchen and take down Lady Wifi? Saving him was a waste of time! Not that he should complain. If she lost, it was a win for them, and his heart skipped knowing she desperately wanted to save him. All in all, his plan to ask her out when all was said and done looked really promising.
The microwave blew on the other side of the door, and Adrien pocketed his phone before she ripped open the door and pulled him out. He collapsed into her arms, nuzzling into her warmth. It was dramatic, but after being locked in a freezer for two whole minutes, he deserved to be snuggled by a beautiful superheroine.
“Are you okay?” Ladybug held him close, rubbing his arms.
Adrien would have savored it more, but the scent of burnt plastic and smoke from the busted microwave in the corner was ruining their moment. Her red and black spotted box lay abandoned on the floor, having fallen out of the microwave when it exploded.
“You used your lucky charm to save me. Why?” Adrien frowned.
“Well, I can’t have my favorite little sidekick freezing to death.” She brushed his nose with the tip of her finger and smiled. ]
His cheeks burned hot, pushing out any traces of cold left in his body. That was a statement he’d be dissecting for hours later.
“Thank you. You really are a hero,” Adrien said.
Ladybug stood up, helping him to his feet, and surveyed the room. The doors were still locked by Lady Wifi’s magic, and with the microwave busted, they weren’t getting out that way any time soon. She touched a hand to her earrings when they beeped and pursed her lips.
“After I defeat Lady Wifi, the doors should open.” She retrieved her lucky charm and crawled into the dumbwaiter. “Please, stay out of trouble. I really mean it this time.”
“I’ll do my best,” Adrien said. He pressed the button on the dumbwaiter and sent her up, rubbing his palms on his jeans.
The camera icon in the corner disappeared, and Adrien retrieved his phone from the freezer, a live feed broadcasting their battle on the roof. Lady Wifi was likely planning to stall Ladybug until her timer ran out, so it would behoove him to stay put until she won. As far as his father was concerned, getting her to waste her lucky charm saving him to start her timer was a valiant effort toward their cause, even if it wasn’t his original intention. But Ladybug chose to save him even though it set her back. The least he could do was return the favor. Comatose mother in need of magical earrings or not, Adrien owed her.
Adrien zoomed in on the wifi box on the roof and pursed his lips. Helping Ladybug was risky, especially being openly broadcast to everyone in Paris — including his villainous father who was counting on him to make sure she lost. He’d think of an excuse later. Right now, his future wife needed him.
Adrien crawled back into the dumbwaiter, lifting out the same way he’d come in. The pool deck had been abruptly abandoned when the akuma broke out as all of Paris moved indoors to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. Only a crazy person would willingly throw themselves in the middle of a battle between two girls with superpowers, but Adrien had always read that love made people do crazy things. So, as Lady Wifi’s camera followed their action on the other side of the pool, he grabbed an abandoned drink from a table and climbed up to pour it on the wifi box.
With the signal around the hotel jammed, Lady Wifi’s powers evaporated, and Ladybug kicked the phone from her hands, smashing it with her yoyo to reveal a black butterfly.
Adrien climbed down as she captured the akuma, slipping into the stairwell while her back was turned. He retreated down to the restaurant, blowing a sigh through his lips. Hopefully his father didn’t see him actively betraying their mission by helping Ladybug. Something told him his father wouldn’t understand Adrien’s life-for-a-life philosophy.
Ladybug’s magical ladybugs swarmed the dining room, fixing all of the damage. They even swirled around Adrien, removing the ache from his ribs where Lady Wifi kicked him — a strange sensation Adrien couldn’t even begin to describe. The lady of the hour emerged from the stairwell, stopping short when she saw him. Relief flooded her expression, bringing back the warmth to Adrien’s cheeks. Why did she have to be so gorgeous and concerned for him?
“I see you figured everything out in the end,” Adrien said.
Ladybug approached him, crossing her arms over her chest. “I know it was you that fried the wifi signal. I couldn’t have defeated her without your help.”
“Well, to be fair, it was my fault you used up your lucky charm.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “And I was really touched when you chose to save me instead of chasing after Lady Wifi.”
“I wouldn’t have to save you so much if you weren’t always throwing yourself into dangerous situations, ya know.” Ladybug chided. Her earrings beeped again, and she glanced around frantically. “I’m about to change back.”
“Here.” Adrien pulled open the janitorial closet.
She rushed in without a second thought, trusting him so easily. Pink light flashed through the cracks, and Adrien’s hand hesitated on the handle. He could open the door and figure out her identity. He could bring it home to his father like a trophy. They’d be one step closer to waking his mother up. But as his fingers slipped from the handle, legs carrying him down the stairs and out to the sidewalk, he couldn’t bring himself to regret the decision.
Ladybug trusted him, and even though he’d have to betray her eventually, he wanted to enjoy the double agent gig for a little while longer. Why did she have to look so beautiful in the dim restaurant lighting? His enemy being the most gorgeous woman in the world was the real crime. The way her mask furrowed over her blue eyes when she was worried about him was to die for. And something told him death wasn’t off the table as he headed home to his father.
Dinner was ready when he arrived home, and to his surprise, his father was already seated in the dining room. He instinctively straightened, taking his normal seat at the opposite end of the table. Was his father dining with him because he did something right or because he knew Adrien helped Ladybug escape again? The silence was deafening.
“So…” Adrien cleared his throat. “We were really close this time.”
“Yes.” His father nodded. “Great work. Baiting out her lucky charm was an excellent idea. I’m proud of the lengths you went to on this mission.”
“Oh.” Adrien perked up. “Yeah, totally. That was my plan all along.”
“I know I was hard on you, but getting your mother back is important to me. I want our family to be whole again. I’m sure you understand,” his father said.
Adrien straightened. “I do, Father. I’ll keep working hard to help you in any way that I can.”
“Thank you, Adrien. I can’t do this without you.”
Adrien bit back a smile, taking a sip of his tea as their staff brought out the first course. Everything worked out in the end. His father didn’t know he helped Ladybug win or that he gave up a chance to learn her identity. Ladybug thought of him as a trusted ally, which meant he would definitely be seeing her more in the future. If Adrien played his cards right, he could get everything he wanted. His mom, the girl of his dreams, his father’s regard…
Adrien’s heart skipped. For the first time since they started, Adrien felt like everything was going to be okay. His skin still crawled at the thought of hurting people, but if they got their wish, they’d set everything right in the end. Until then, he’d keep working hard to help his father. After all, it was the first time he’d ever told Adrien he was proud of him.

Prestidigitation
For all intents and purposes, everyone would be better off if they minded their own business instead of trying to pry into the private life of public figures. For god’s sake, Ladybug’s the Protector of Paris, not some celebrity sensation on the gossip column. Still, some people will occasionally pop the insensitive question, and at times like that, she has to repeat the age-old lie: No, she does not have a soulmate. Ladybug finds it infuriating. Adrien finds it hilarious.
Ladrien soulmate AU requested by @risieb for the @miraculers-for-ukraine charity drive. Thank you for supporting the event! <3
Prestidigitation (1,638 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter)
It’s a single question.
A single question that kicks the cogs of a well-oiled machine into motion, a single question that makes the stiff heat of the crowded ballroom settle upon the dinner table with all the weight of the world. The handkerchief gently tapping at the gathering sweat on Adrien’s brows stops at the same time when Ladybug’s eyes flash at him. There’s a palpable shard of heartbreak in them, and Plagg squirming with barely restrained glee in the vest pocket of Adrien’s suit is decidedly not helping the situation.
She abruptly averts her gaze, breaking the eye-contact not longer than a fraction of a second, but it serves as a reminder of a universal truth above all: Ladybug hates lying. She isn’t very good at it, either.
She fixes the remains of her salad on her plate rather deliberately, and tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. They are all pink as she says, “No, of course I haven’t met my soulmate yet.”
Maybe it’s her innate luck, maybe the superficial nature of smalltalk at charity galas, or just the infallible human principle that people only see what they want to see, but Nadja Chamack nods in great understanding. She smiles at her, in that benevolently pitying way of people who are in on a secret of life their interlocutor has been denied of so far, and pats Ladybug’s gloved hand gently over the table.
“Worry not, my dear. You’ll meet him soon enough, I’m sure of it.”
Nadja takes a sip of her champagne flute to wash down the chicken confit while Ladybug just nods with a small, agreeable smile. And if she breathes a sigh of relief as she chases a cherry tomato around on her plate, it’s a gesture subtle enough to avoid everyone’s attention around the round table who isn’t so acutely tuned into every whiffle of hers.
Adrien, rather predictably, takes notice.
Enabled by the tiny god of destruction trembling in his pocket, and the pinkening on Ladybug’s cheeks, he inches his chair closer. Just close enough to be able to lean in comfortably. He joins the two women’s conversation, his voice as innocent as a cherub’s as he inquires. “What about Chat Noir?”
Ladybug’s eyes flash at him threatening with a celestial crash and burn, but it’s already too late. Nadja’s face lights up.
“Yes, indeed! What about Chat Noir? I’ve always thought that if there were two people ever destined to be together, it would be the two of you.”
Ladybug’s shoulders tense with the small laugh she forces out, the very same one that makes her fork maneuver itself forcefully right through a whole tomato. By accident. Probably.
“Oh, no, it’s nothing like that. Chat Noir and I are just coworkers.”
You are incorrigible, she supplies mentally, and Adrien feels the huff at the end of her missive.
That’s what you love about me, though, he returns. In lieu of the grin he truly wants to sport, he lets his mirth over her adorable indignation carry with the thought. It passes between them through the soulmate bond.
Out loud, though, he only says, “Coworker? I thought you two were partners.”
Her face pinches up in a slight frown and Adrien feels the mental equivalent of a kick under the table. Actually, it might just have been a real kick under the table. With Ladybug, one can never know, but that only makes Adrien all the more glad to push her buttons.
“Coworkers, partners, tomayto, tomahto,” she waves it off, rapidly popping the real deal in her mouth to avoid any further questions.
I thought we were over this and you stopped getting jealous over Chat Noir, she remarks, deliberately not looking at him for more than a duration of a glare.
Oh, I’m most definitely not jealous of Chat Noir. After all, which one of us is soulmates with the most brilliant girl in the world, him or me? he returns, humouring himself with the joke of the century.
It’s alright that Ladybug doesn’t get it yet, though. One day she will, and that will be the most glorious day of Adrien’s life. But until then, he knows it would be way too dangerous to let her in on the joke, not to mention the violation of Ladybug and Chat Noir’s Handbook of the Good-Enough Hero: Minimizing Emotional Trauma and Keeping Identities Just-Secret-Enough — A Practical Guide. The very one that Adrien, naturally, hasn’t got the slightest clue exists.

Wingwoman Alya
Here is chapter 2 of Ladrien June! And it's also part 1 where the next chapter will be released tomorrow. Sorry if this part is a little bit more Adrienette than Ladrien. I promise tomorrow's chapter is where Ladrien comes into play ;)! So stay tuned!!
AO3
“Marinette, Marinette, Marinette!” Alya rushed over to where she was climbing up the school steps.
She blinked at her best friend in shock as Alya grabbed onto her arm, yanking her into the school. Marinette let out a startled shriek as she began to get dragged into a dark, quiet corner. What was she doing?
When Alya finally dropped her arm, scanning the empty corridor suspiciously, Marinette rubbed it as she pouted over to her. “What on earth was that for?”
Her best friend gave the hallway one last, surreptitious glance before turning to her with a pair of gleaming hazel eyes. “Nino finally learned who Adrien’s crush is and guess who he just told!”
Marinette’s mouth fell open as she gaped at Alya. “No way!”
“Yes, way!” She beamed back at her. “And guess who it is!”
“Who?! Who?!” She practically trembled with excitement before panic flooded her stomach. Maybe she didn’t want to know. “Wait, no I don’t wanna know!”
If it wasn’t her, how was Marinette supposed to function around him? And if it was her... how was she still supposed to function around him?! But could she really live without knowing?
Gnawing on her lower lip, she twisted one of her pigtails around. All at once, she felt a burst of confidence. “Actually, yes, I do wanna know!”
Alya opened her mouth to obviously reveal the answer before Marinette let out a shriek, slapping both of her hands onto her cheeks. “No I don’t!”
Her best friend chuckled before gently taking her hands off of her cheeks, squeezing them both. “Marinette, it’s you.”
As soon as the words left Alya’s lips, a choked gasp escaped from hers. Instantly, her heartbeat quickened its pace, beating rapidly in her chest. Her face flamed up as a wave of dizziness swept over her. Surely Alya didn’t mean that. Was it... was it even possible that he could feel the same way about her as she did him?
In the middle of a mental crisis, she almost missed Alya’s next words. “Or, well, more accurately Ladybug.”
When Marinette finally regained her sanity and actually registered what she had just said, she caught Alya throwing a wink her way. With a hint of panic in her tone, she whispered, “What?!”
She let go of her hands, beaming at her happily and ignoring the distress Marinette had currently found herself experiencing. “I know right! Isn’t it just amazing! All this time we’ve spent planning and he’s already been in love with you from the very start. That Ladybug luck has certainly worn off on you, huh, girl?”
She let out a groan, throwing her head up to stare up at the ceiling. Alya shot her a questioning glance before Marinette began to pace, trying to sort through her thoughts. “No, it most certainly did not! How could Adrien even be in love with Ladybug when he’s only met her a handful of times!? It’s not Ladybug could even do anything! She’s too busy being the savior of Paris!”
“Uh, Marinette?” Alya asked.
She snapped her gaze over to meet her friend’s, seeing one of her eyebrows raised uncertainly. “What!?” Marinette scrubbed a hand down her face as turmoil roared to life in her chest.
“You know that you’re Ladybug... right?” Her best friend crossed her arms and stared at her like she thought that Marinette had gone insane.
“Of course!” She scoffed, tilting her chin up. What was Alya even trying to insinuate?
“Are you sure... because you sound just a little bit jealous of yourself?” Alya’s gaze turned almost hesitant.
Marinette opened her mouth to respond before she deflated, staring down at the floor. Was Alya right? Was she jealous of herself? It certainly felt like she was. Scuffing her foot against the tiled floor, she muttered, “Maybe you’re right.”
“But why?” Alya asked incredulously. “This is great news! All you have to do is turn on the Ladybug charm as Marinette and wow him by how amazing both of you really are!”
She chuckled sardonically, shaking her head. “You’re forgetting about one little issue here. I can barely get any words out around Adrien! How am I supposed to ‘turn on the Ladybug charm’ when I’m practically foaming at the mouth?”
Alya frowned, turning her head to the side as she tapped her chin. Marinette’s lips quirked to the side as she listened to her friend hum softly. Now she finally understood her problem.
She was about to step aside to get to her class when Alya snapped her fingers. “I got it! If you can’t turn on the Ladybug charm as Marinette then why don’t you just visit him as Ladybug?”
“What?!” Marinette shrieked again, feeling her face flame as ideas flooded her mind unbidden. Was Alya trying to murder her? Shaking her head roughly, she glared over at her. “I can’t do that!”
“Why not?” Alya nudged her mischievously. “You save Paris every day! You deserve a little fun now and then.”
Marinette huffed, letting herself entertain the possibility for a brief moment before discarding it entirely. “It’s exactly because I save Paris every day that I can’t! What if people found out?”
Alya let out a long-suffering sigh, clicking her tongue at her. “Oh come on, girl. I know for sure that a certain Chat has come to visit you a couple of times. You can’t tell me that anything that drastic has happened because of it.”
She opened her mouth, closed it, then opened it again. Okay... so maybe Alya had a point. “We got André akumatized once,” she muttered.
“Yeah, and you also got him akumatized when you decided not to eat his magic ice cream. What’s your point?” She stared over at her pointedly, crossing her arms.
Struggling to come up with anything else, Marinette hung her head when she couldn’t think of anything. “Alright, so maybe you’re right,” she mumbled quietly.
“Of course I am!” Alya cheered before glancing over at her softly. “So will you at least give my idea a try? I mean, this is Adrien we’re talking about.”
“Maybe.” Marinette blew out a loud exhale. “But only maybe... I’ll have to think about it.”
Her best friend gave her a bright grin before the bell rang and they both looked at each other with wide eyes. Grabbing a hold of her hand, she took off with Alya towards their classroom. Bursting through the doors, Marinette grinned and murmured a quiet apology at Mlle. Bustier before taking her seat.
Nibbling on her lower lip, she couldn’t stop her gaze from drawing over to stare at the back of Adrien’s head. Was it really possible that he’s been in love with her this entire time? Her heart fluttered at just the possibility.
Oh, she was definitely going to get in trouble for this. Because currently, Marinette Dupain-Cheng had decided that she was going to visit Adrien Agreste as Ladybug. Whether or not he or she admitted their feelings, she was going to take a chance.
If everything went okay, maybe she’d be able to further explore their friendship. If everything went perfectly then she would officially be in a relationship with the boy she had been in love with for so long. And, if it all went badly, she could always blame Alya. Biting down on her lip to contain a smile, Marinette ducked her head down to focus on her notes. And if , maybe, she was hoping for everything to go perfectly... well, she wouldn’t admit that to herself.

kiss you like you’ve never been kissed before me
i would go anywhere you wanna go
with your hand in my hand
this is marinette to adrien either pre or post-reveal !!!
are you bored yet? - wallows & clairo
‘cause we could stay at home and watch the sunset
but i can’t help from asking, “are you bored yet?”
okay so i imagine this being ladrien, so adrien to ladybug BUT it could also be adrinette as soon as they start dating ahhdhsfhj
like or like like - miniature tigers
tell me how you feel about me
do you like or like, like me?
hehe this is marinette to adrien or it could work magnificently with a reverse love square adrien to mari
friends don’t - maddie & tae
friends don’t stand around playing with their keys,
finding reasons not to leave, trying to hide the chemistry
drive a little too slow, take the long way home, get a little too close
we do but, but friends don’t
okay this could be adrinette once they are really comfortable around each other OR ladynoir
safe with you - delaney jane
thought i would regret coming to this party
empty bottles left, i don’t know nobody but
i feel safe with you
so this song is LITERALLY fulfilling all my ladynoir going to a fancy gala together fantasies but this could also just be from ladybug’s pov about chat (please listen to the whole lyrics 😭)
get used to it - ricky montgomery
you want a garden but you got a balcony
and you’re always lookin’ for some company
you want a say, well what you got to say?
give in to me, give in to me and see
just for the mention of a balcony this song is PURE marichat but agh i love them so much. also line without a hook by ricky is so ladynoir but i think we already knew that.
dandelions - ruth b.
and i’ve heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime
and i’m pretty sure that you are that love of mine
‘cause i’m in a field of dandelions
wishing on every one that you’ll be mine
this is marinette to adrien !!!!!! just her. daydreaming about him
okay i think i’m gonna finish this here :p i’ve left out some of the more obvious songs and i haven’t included any t swift songs because we’re all well aware that all her lyrics are about the love square. as well as cody fry’s songs. agh they’re doing this fandom such a service anyway i hope you listen to these songs and recommend more love square ones thank u :)

still obsessed with the idea of alya & adrien fake dating for PR reasons post hawkmoth defeat… they gotta establish adrien’s public image as being anti-gabriel. marinette obviously suggests ladrien but this is regarded by everyone as too dangerous (except adrien who thought it was a great idea). so it falls to alya, the ladyblogger, to convince everyone that adrien is Definitely Not the Next Supervillian. she thinks it’s hilarious at first and plays it up. calls him embarrassing pet names in public. makes them wear matching ladybug shirts (they already own them but she makes adrien wear his at the same time as her). generally is a nuisance to everyone involved except plagg who also thinks it’s funny. nino knows it’s fake but he’s still annoyed. adrien is still processing his Big Trauma so he’s just kinda. going with it. he wishes marinette was the one calling him dumb pet names instead even if it’s fake but mostly he’s just glad his friends still want to be around him. marinette is obviously WILDLY JEALOUS. she is aware that it’s completely irrational but unlike nino, marinette has never been chill about anything in her entire life, so instead of being mildly annoyed she tells everyone that she’s “VERY HAPPY FOR THEM ISNT IT GREAT” while smiling in a way that scares off any passing small children or animals. and then she plans all their dates and gets upset that she’s not going on the date herself.
but then at some point adrien has to go to some Very Fancy Galas with alya as his date at which point this stops becoming fun for alya because she hates wearing these dresses and all these people are so boring and every time she tries to start an interesting conversation people think she’s being rude and none of this music is fun to dance to. adrien of course also is bored out of his mind and they start to actually bond a bit and have some fun and maybe this isn’t so bad. but then they learn that marinette and nino are hanging out while they’re out at these galas and adrien thinks maybe this IS bad because he and alya are spending time together for fake PR reasons but marinette and nino just want to hang out together and one day he and alya come home to find nino and marinette cuddling asleep on the couch and adrien is freaking out because he’s worried that marinette and nino are falling in love because of this stupid plan and he doesn’t understand why alya isn’t also freaking out. alya of course is not only secure in her relationship but also well aware that marinette is still completely bonkers for adrien and there is zero chance of that changing anytime soon.
anyways i just want post hawkmoth defeat to be exactly as ridiculous as they’ve always been thanks

8, 9, 20 for the new years ask game?
Thanks for the ask!! (From Fanfic Asks For The New Year) Uh. I'm putting this under the cut because tw: sui attempt for question 8
8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?
Mmmm well I don't know if this counts or not because I haven't actually been sitting on this specific idea for a long time. But it's slightly angstier than what I normally feel comfortable writing (in that the beginning involves a failed suicide attempt on Adrien's part). I don't have a lot of the details worked out but long story short it's aged up, post-reveal and post-HM, and Adrien moved away (haven't 100% decided on where yet, but likely New York or Montreal). Nino's his emergency contact so he gets the call about Adrien being in the hospital. For some reason Nino can't get a plane ticket (weather or something I guess?), but Marinette happens to be on a work trip in the area, so Nino asks her to go check in. Only problem is...she and Adrien haven't spoken in years, and he's not exactly thrilled to see her at first. Still, she ends up staying in town and to help him get back on his feet so to speak. So yeah...this one starts really heavy but ends happily. I don't know if I'll actually get to it this year (or ever) because I have so many other projects and I'm trying not to start new ones at the moment. But...it's kind of calling to me. I just love angst with a happy ending too much akjsdfbsf 9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January? In the next few days (ie as soon as I have the time and energy) I need to finish my secret santa fic!! There are only two chapters left and they're not so long, so it should be doable! Then...I want to hopefully write something for DJWifi December even though it won't be December anymore. I had like 3 different ideas for that event but this month I just haven't had enough time lately 😭 For the rest of January I have no goals except trying to update Say Something and Ladrien roommates at least once. I'm trying not to push myself too hard because last year I got kind of burnt out from writing at some point and I don't want that to happen again.
20. Any plans to work on original fiction this year?
Not concretely, no. I have a handful of novel ideas I've had bouncing around for years but right now I'm happy working on my fics and letting those ideas ruminate a little longer haha. I feel like...2024 might be the year for that though. Just maybe.

AAAAA WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE NEW EP (i screamed many times)
I really liked it! Alya really carried the whole thing, genius level planning in this one on her part! I have minor pet peeves, as per usual, but overall I had a fun time.
-I like that Marinette is getting more sleep on the weekends, lol, and that she can just show up at Alya's place and no one bats an eye. I even like the confirmation that Chat Blanc is a feature in her nightmares and something that she does still think about.
-I like that Nino's afraid of spiders, maybe it was established that he was already afraid of them in Anansi (I haven't watched it yet tbh) but if not it's a nice little continuity that he was effected by it in that way.
-I was cackling immediately when Shadowmoth started belaying his plan, which all hinged on Ladybug delivering to Alya a miraculous that she already had. Plus, I hate to get meta on ya Hawky, but if you explain your entire plan before the plan happens, that's media short hand for "this plan is going to go wrong".
-I liked that Adrien called out Nino's name first when he saw the news, and I liked that he also called out Marinette's. Just cute when they remember that he has friends and cares about them.
-Can't believe...but also totally believe that SM fell for the whole "I need to use the bathroom" ploy. Absolute child's play.
-Also I love all the comics that have come as a result of SM showing up to a fight with coffee. Please keep them coming, forever.
-Alya was a total boss in convincing SM that she's not getting her miraculous anymore. And I've always thought that the Fox is best when the enemy doesn't know they're there, so if Rena Rouge has to fight only in the shadows from now on, I support it.
-The Marichat (though not romantic) was peak. Him listening to Marinette after being so annoyed with being bossed around by Rena, him assuring her that they'll rescue her soon, her supporting his idea to head off Sentibubbler before he can expose Illusion-bug and out Rena's whole illusion. her trying to warn him about SM's attack, him lowkey trying to show off when he escaped the bubble the first time. I like Marichat best when it's friends having each other's back, so this watered my crops and cleared my skin. I am a simple woman of simple tastes and offer my Ladrien friends a hopeful prayer that you are next.
-I liked that Pegabug was only like 45 seconds, thank the Lord.
-I liked that Chat Noir saved Nino first and foremost (and uh left literally everyone else to Ladybug, thanks?) Still, bromance is bromance and I'll take my crumbs.
-I think (?) Chat Noir is over the Rena thing now? At least he's over Rena being on equal partnership as him with Ladybug, especially with how the Rocketear teaser is portraying their friendship as growing. That's not to say there's no possible angst to be had down the line if he finds out she's permanent or that She Knows.
Now the nitpicks:
-I don't love Alya's "Alya vision" but it's way better than how the "Adrien vision" looked.
-Also don't love Alya's fanny pack. Maybe if it was in a contrasting color? Or just solid? Why'd they make it the same pattern as her shirt but just...zoomed in?
-I get they're trying to ramp up the DJWifi drama for Rocketear (and possibly beyond) but I'm sorry Nino "Let's throw a city wide party for Boys Only and purposefully exclude and lie to the Girls about it because Guy Time is Guy Time" Lahiffe, were you bothered that Alya and Marinette wanted a little alone time to talk about something without you? Because I find it hard to feel to bad about that.
-Rena rushing through trying to give Chat Noir the right information making her be careless with her words while a bit frustrating is totally understandable. Also understandable is Chat Noir being angry about it because of how she worded it or because of the situation itself. But him destroying a piece of property in his anger is kinda frightening to me, especially when it's paired with him telling himself that the Miraculous Cure will fix it (implying that means it doesn't matter), which is just...eerily parroting things that I've had Scarlet Lady say, who if you recall, I'm portraying as The Worst(tm). So, that was less than fun.
-Pegabug has two hands, I do not understand how she didn't go for both the amok item and the butterfly broach (outside of the meta reason that the show might be over then). For sure she'll be kicking herself for that (and so will her detractors). And given how the Magic Charms and Senti[x]s have made akumas obsolete, I don't get why she couldn't have grabbed the Butterfly, but SM could get away with the Peacock and continue his terror that way. Them giving her a throw away Lucky Charm that didn't even assist in the fight at all combined with her only going for the coffee just doubles up on how contrived it feels.
-While I appreciate Chat Noir's turn around at the end of the episode, it does come out of no where. Maybe in order for this change to make a little more sense, Rena Rouge should've called him back when Illusion-bug left to be like "Okay, kit-kat, you're on now! We need you to make sure my illusion isn't found out, time for the two-person plan to become a three-person one!" At the same time, it is to Chat Noir's own credit that he realized what he needed to do on his own, so it's a bit of a mixed bag.
But uh I think that's it for now! One thing I've noticed in this season is that I feel the need to hold back on full salting because this is the first season that I feel like I need to wait until the next episode before I can complain about the current one because things are for once being continuous. I'm actually, like, pumped? For new episodes? Because they build off one another? Maybe they don't do it in the order I'd particularly like (why is Optigami and Sentibubbler so IN THE MIDDLE of the season when they should come almost right off the Season 3 finale, we seriously could've pushed Zoe and Su-han back to fit them in sooner) BUT they are building, and, I'm kinda excited for it!

Daily Fics
(Fics I read throughout the day yesterday and enjoyed)
to give the sea by miraculousunflower (ominousunflower) (@ominousunflower)
As spring turns to summer, Marinette has two strange encounters in her seaside town. One of them is with a herd of seals that appears one day without an explanation; the other is with Adrien Agreste.
The more she gets to know Adrien, the more she wonders about the strange sadness in his heart—and why the sea seems to hold some sort of answer, if only she could understand what it’s trying to say.
A selkie!Adrien fic. It’s cute, I initially found the time skips a little jarring but once you know they’re there it’s easy enough to wrap your head around. I thought the emotions were written well, I could feel Marinette’s longing and sadness when she and Adrien were kept apart, it makes the reunion that much sweeter.

Lending a Paw by JuliaFC
Cats are curious creatures. After having helped Marinette rehearse her love declaration the night he faced Glaciator again, Chat Noir decides to pop at her balcony once more, to check on her progress with her beloved Buttercup. But when he finds out that she's still unable to talk to him, he decides to lend her a paw again
Marichat confession practice leads to reverse love square because you’re more likely to fall in love with someone when you spend time with them. Then identity reveal freak out and fun times.

The Night of Endless Chances by sariahsue (@sariahsue)
Of all the stupid things Marinette had said in her life, she was sure that telling Alya that Chat Noir would be her date to the New Year's party had to be one of the worst. Marinette could only hope Adrien would agree to go with her. (Post reveal, pre-relationship, also pre Gang of Secrets.)
HGNFDGHJKFGLDSFH!!! God they’re so adorable! Short and sweet story of Marinette fretting over trying to tell Adrien how she feels post reveal.

come in with the rain by emilieee ( @e-milieeee )
When Ladybug and Chat Noir discover that Shadowmoth is Gabriel Agreste, Ladybug’s expecting them to finally gain the upper-hand in the fight. Instead, her partner completely disappears.
Unexpectedly, he comes to find Marinette instead.
Little bit of marichat, little bit of ladrien, I expect next chapter will be adrinette. Very light angst and an overall good time.

#ADayWithAdrien by 11JJ11 ( @graaythekwami )
Adrien isn't too sure how he feels about an akuma with the power to make clones of himself.
Joking around and in the moment excuses lead to unintentional identity reveals. This one’s pretty cute, short, and funny.

Three Suns By Taliax (@gabriel-agreste-has-no-rights)
While helping Marinette practice her confession to her "boyfriend who isn't her boyfriend yet," Chat Noir sees Adrien's name on her script. Reveal fic set during Glaciator 2.
This is sweet :)

All's well that ends well to end up with you by Akshu42238929 ( @akshu8929 )
“Hey dude, what’s up?” Nino asked casually from the other side of the phone.
“Is Alya with you?”
“Yes, why?”
“I need you both to come over to Marinette’s as soon as you can, it’s an emergency.”
***
With her identity revealed to Shadowmoth, Marinette makes the life-changing decision to pass on her Guardianship to Adrien and lose part of her memory. However, Adrien refuses to accept this.
Eyyyy! True loves kiss for the win!! 💕

Solitude (Gorizilla AU) by icebelle24
During the battle against Gorizilla, Adrien has a terrifying fall. That evening, Ladybug visits him to be sure he's alright. But maybe he isn't the only one shaken.
“You told me to jump,” he said simply.
“Not jump off the side of the building!”
He remained calm. “I had to get off that building and away from the akuma somehow.”
“And if you had died?” Ladybug repeated.
“That’s not what you’re mad about,” he decided at last.
Or, a different aftermath to Gorizilla.
Yes! They’re always better together! Love square being their for each other!

All the Time in the World by P_Artsypants
In a world where the laws of nature dictate that you age to 16, and then stop aging until you meet your soulmate, the only truth to someone’s age is a clock on a person’s wrist.
Adrien’s clock stopped when he turned 16...about a thousand years ago. But soon, that will change when his new guardian allows him to attend school.
This is an interesting one, I haven’t seen soulmates done like this before and it has some cool implications. I think my only issue is Adrien says he lied about something in the last chapter solely to scare Chloe, and that feels a little ooc to me. Otherwise solid fic.
